Rooted Series is back with a really fresh V/A ready for rock the dance floors.

This time starts with label mate Dakpa (Rooted/Sukhumvit) who brings a really rolling house track with great ambiances. A2 comes with In Haus Wax label boss TIJN with a minimal chords house with great senses. B side arrives with our partner Rickzor who builded a great old school house track full of groove. The release ends with label boss Bolumar who brings another old school house feeling track.

Cross out the all seeing eye and ears will open onto questions tracing the lithic grooves of an anachronic industrial. Why the Eye's paleo-futurism suggests a mode of Rock in Opposition displaced into alternative timelines. It is as if the Leg End of Henry Cow has escaped its retro-avant 'chamber music' fetters, toward the hypnotic patterns of dance floor exuberance. These rituals exhume unidentified audio relics from a future yet to be within a deep past that will have been. Each track on Why the Eye's debut leads into an exploration of an entranced dreamscape that would be mislabeled as an 'interlude'. Instead, Why the Eye weave numerological significance into their myth: the energetic, odd-numbered tracks are counterbalanced by the mesmeric reveries of the even-numbered tracks. Using for their titles, these unpronounceable names express the unconscious catacombs of their invisible sonic worlds. Why the Eye uses an array of handmade instruments, each featured on the album's insert: hurgy, papillon, radiocaphone, castabignettes, drumkit, and the various sizes of lamellos. These hybrid tools give an elemental presence to their lithic grooves and a uniqueness to their spectral techno. The album's opener, 'Dombo', could equally be heard as the audio parallel to the 'pataphysical Museum of Jurassic Technology as much as the reopening of the Bay-area's Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. The heavy hypnosis of 'Plastique' sets the machine churning, with its breakbeat skit closing side A. The nouveau post-rock of 'Free Gluten' continues the meditation to side B, as 'Papillon' Afro-punk invites us back to dance. 'Bragitto' lightens up the energetic weight and its dream closes the album with murmurs suitable for any ambience. If music will have been made to announce the retrieval of lost futures, the initiation of Why the Eye might be said to have incepted some of its timbres. LP + insert + download voucher.

The first release on Youth - a new label from Andrew Lyster, comes from Portland based artist Yard. Hailing from the dark woods of the West Coast of the United States, Yard brings together a collection of tracks from the archives alongside some new material. Canopy and White Fog were originally released on the album Deciduous Flood Plains, and have been reworked for this release. Marshall Acid is pressed to vinyl for the first time having previously only been available digitally via Event Horizon. Yard's gritty sound evokes a spectrum of gnarled city life to organic atmospheres. The release comprises of field recordings, micro-cassette mangles, bass kicks, a live jam between x0xb0x and a modded tr-606 and water drops percolating through the mixes to get that urban hum and grit running up against the forest.

While following a normal catalog order, the Live Series is a parallel line of releases that will bring to fruition more acoustic-electronic crossbreeds as well as other sonic experiments, each release will also benefit from an one-of -a-kind type of artwork.
Blending Light is the first in the series and is's also Amorf 's debut album, a collaborative project connecting three musical minds and exploring the converging areas between acoustics and electronics, neoclassicism

An album by Roman Flügel is always a sensation. That holds true for his countless monikers and collaborations as it does for his 2011 Dial debut Fatty Folders. Being the first of its kind under his civic name, the long over-due association of Hamburg's cerebral label and its group of off-centre house and techno individuals with Frankfurt's favorite electronic music producer for the thinking man and woman, proved to be a seminal one.

Now, that sort of Happiness Is Happening again. Roman Flügel's follow up on Dial takes off, where Fatty Folders landed: on a runway that acknowledges the roots of house and techno as well as its fruits, but leads to a different location. Exempt from the burden that a concept album can lay on its author, Flügel seems not to be concerned with the current trends, retro fashion or a pre-conceived topic. Free-wheeling and with a freshness akin to morning dew, he rather takes us by the hand and through ten tracks that sometimes feel like songs without a voice.

Having said that, the strongest point of Happiness Is Happening is that it has a voice. The voice of a maker who is not afraid to mix joy and pain, ambient textures with remnants dance floor euphoria, quiet spaces and loud places. So you have an almost Depeche-Mode-like ballad that the "Friendship Song" is, next to the techno city ghost story of "Occult Levitation". Slow-motion robot disco ("Wilkie") appears as much at home here as the bulky "Stuffy" or the sudden impact in "We Have A Nice Life". That list goes on and on. The most startling fact about Roman Flügel's tour de force is that its sum is as great as its parts. Nothing feels superfluous, ill-paced or forced here. Its a condensate of a life that has been spent in techno, house and its various mutations and archetypes with a sensibility for pop music, a consciousness of indie culture and an affinity for the avant-garde as such.

Happiness Is Happening is like a concept album without a concept. A testament to the fact that the concept of an album that works within the realms and boundaries of "electronic (dance) music" can be so much more than a loose collection of 12-inches or just an exercise in style: it can be, after all, a piece of art and at its best comparable to a successful singer-songwriter album without words. Especially, when the creator of all his seems to be truly comfortable with himself and at his best. Then, Happiness Is Happening, indeed. GERD JANSON

Mit 'Tales from the Past' erscheint die erste EP der beiden Münchner Sinus & Rafner. Schon vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr zeigten sie mit der auf - U6 Schallplatten' veröffentlichten Compilation - Various Artists Vol.1', das von ihnen noch einiges erwartet werden kann. Die A Seite schmückt Sinus mit seinen 2 Tracks - Torture Me'(offizieller Soundtrack des - Grüne Sonne Festivals' 2014) und - Dachkammer'. Beide sind definiert durch Vielseitigkeit, einer deepen Atmosphäre und einem stetigen Groove. Auf der B Seite tobt sich Rafner mit seiner Nummer - Nordwind' aus. Breite Flächen und lange Breaks unterstützt von einem satten Beat laden definitiv zum Tanzen ein. Abgerundet wird die Scheibe durch den smoothen Nordwind Remix von Ill-Boy-Phil und Sebastian Fleischer, welcher ein schön melancholischen Abschluss zu den vorher gehenden Tracks bildet.

The opening A side track ''1840'' (feat. Contrapunct) is the result of taking a violin built by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume in the year 1840, played by our in-house virtuoso now known as Contrapunct and making a sample kit / sound kit with it Yes, this means all the sounds you hear on this song are sourced from an old and beautiful violin. Using original recordings combined with different manipulation techniques, the trio deliver to the plate over 12 minutes of intensity.
One can explain it like this perhaps...........
You are high in the blue sky walking a high wire over an ocean of beautiful coral reef,
still maintaining balance, but looking down at the view beneath and thinking-
"if i got to go- there cannot be much better ways!"
You safely reach the other side, then turn around and walk the wire back, home safe.
On the B1 we have Ottoman Pipes. A Jamaican analog synth made its way to our studio just before being shipped off to sea again - after sitting with it for hours, we couldn't help but turn every knob on it and record at the same time. I guess this about explains the synth works, but to be a little strange and not wanting to sound too commercial we just had to bring in the Darbuka and let Kaan release the beast inside via nicely played eastern drum riddims.

On the B2, ''Four Kings'' delivers some Miami booty bass! This is modular bass amped with a nicely saturated/almost distorted riff that keeps rolling, and rolling. Probably the heaviest track to the ep and one that will register in tone with older Contexterrior releases of the past. True to the other - each sound is very well placed and meticulously panned for a nice stereo listen.

It's already well-known that Cocoon Recordings is a sucker for tracks that stand out of the usual field of - let's be honest - often uniformly reduced Tech-House, and the past nine years of the label's history have proven this sustainably. And the Rhein-Neckar area based team Flatner/Lopazz are again two hot candidates to leave their very special mark on the summer of 2009. After all, Circlemusic manager Alex Flatner is rocking the floors as a DJ and producer for already 10 years now, having been releasing for labels such as Harthouse or Black Nation, whereas the Heidelberg-born Stefan Eichinger aka Lopazz has made himself a name with releases on imprints from the likes of Output, International Deejay Gigolo and mainly Get Physical. Together they celebrate a very funky understanding for percussive Techno, which is setting highly meaningful moments for the primetime, particularly by means of lascivious vocals. 'I wanna take you all night long", for sure! And you definitely can't find a better expression for the perfect pounding symbiosis between bass-focused club stompers and economically dosed Pop elements than 'It's time to make up your mind".

Early May will see Mihai Popoviciu return with his second long player in the shape of the
'Home' LP on Bondage music, comprising twelve original compositions from the Romanian artist.

Mihai Popoviciu : "The album's called "home" because it is inspired by my experiences from my home city Sibiu in Romania. Home is also the place where the album was produced, in my stripped down studio. It is where I always return to rest and chill after touring the world and the place where I feel most safe and comfortable. The artwork shows an image of the airport lane in Sibiu with surrounding hills and mountains in the back. It is a metaphoric "gate" to both leave and return home."

Romania's Mihai Popoviciu has carved out quite the career over the past decade releasing material through the likes of Highgrade, Hudd Traxx, Poker Flat and Fear of Flying. Here though we see him deliver his second full-length album and return to Bondage Music following a single on the label back in
2013.

Across the project Mihai delivers his signature dance floor focused, stripped back style with records like
'ACK', 'Sandstone Folder' and 'Tentacle Operated' showcasing the hypnotic and percussive style
Popoviciu executes so well. The project also drifts into smooth dubby realms via compositions like
'Cannon Poets' and 'Sunshine' while the likes of 'Triumph' and 'Music 999' radiantly display Mihai's proficient production abilities as he wanders into a brighter more house centric sound.

All in all Mihai Popoviciu turns in a coherent long player whilst exploring a broad range of styles, 'Focus and 'Havana' lay down a groove-led feel with subtle modulations and an unfaltering structure, while
'Data On Data', 'Paranoia' and 'Hypnosia' tip the focus over to dark and brooding territories with murky synth pads and chuggy low end tones. Once again Popoviciu has proven himself to be one of Romania's finest electronic music exports.

Boutique Polish vinyl imprint Astropical Tapes returns for a second outing following the widespread acclaim of Astro Buhloone's inaugural effort Forever with an EP from label boss, Marcin Krupa.

Spa House is named after Krupa's hometown Konstancin-Jeziorna, which is a historic spa resort on the outer reaches of Warsaw's administrative area. The EP is a fittingly soothing affair, from the resplendent strings and vocal harmonies that adorn the rolling title track to the loose, early morning mellowness of Jeziorna. Remixes of the latter come from Universo, who opts for a distorted, acid-licked melodic version, and Studio Barnhus signing Naphta, who chops up a broken beat and woozy chords to discordant effect.
