Acclaimed US DJ and producer Maceo Plex has announced the release of his long awaited studio album 'Solar'. The climax to a lead up that included last year's 7-track 'Journey to Solar', and 2015's 2 track 'Solar Sampler', 'Solar' is due for release on his brand new label Lone Romantic on the 16th June.
Lone Romantic is a new electronica based label; it will focus on albums and will also open its doors to releasing more avant guard and leftfield singles.
Meanwhile, the 'Solar' album allows Maceo to utilise the long format to explore and expose his less explicitly club leaning and more reflective side, taking the listener on a journey through shades of electronica, techno, breakbeats, dub and more. Named after his son Solar, the album also chronicles his new found fatherhood; 'the ups and downs in the first few years and its effects on life, marriage and more'.
There's still dancefloor suitable music within the album; opener 'Sparks of Light''s propulsive drums make for an attention grabbing first track, just as the driving 4/4 bassline of closing track 'The Tesseract' is a memorable climax. 'Polygon Pulse' also features the hefty low end that Maceo has become known for, yet underneath breakbeat style drums and sighing vocal snippets.
Vocals are a prominent defining feature of 'Solar' that mark it out as a departure towards more of a home listening, experimental album. 'Indigo' marries Maceo's characteristic signature sounds with a slower tempo and gritty male vocals for a stirring, downbeat piece of indie electronica, whilst following track 'Separation's breathy vocals and subtle DnB cymbals feel more relaxed.
'Kepler's Journey' marks a stylistic break midway through the album, before the vocoded vocals of 'Solar Wind' and 'Wash Away My Tears' (the 12' mix of which was included in the Solar Sampler) bring to mind a forward thinking, indie take on French touch. Elsewhere, the lilting, dub techno influenced 'Swan Dive' sees this effect take on a more eery, thoughtful tone.
The release of 'Solar' sees Maceo Plex enter a new, more developed chapter of his long career - taking the sounds that have made him so popular and building upon them to push himself forward artistically, the album is a very personal use of the long format and an education in the producer's musical influences.

Hot on the heels of Skarn Division's successful launch in December of 2016 and its inaugural, well-received four-tracker Skarn which featured an original track and 3 remixes from Positive Centre, Plukkk and Yuuki Sakai, Italy-based label founder and author of the original work Federico Amoroso has made an indisputably wise decision and commissioned 5 more remixes to be produced by the stellar representatives of high quality techno discipline. Needless to say, when you bring together the heavy-hitting and well-established Takaaki Itoh, Stingrays, Lucindo and Paul Birken who have it for a principle to bar no holds when it comes to production, you can expect a rather strong output, but even DJ Surgeles, who is normally known for contemplative, leisurely-paced deep space vibes has turned quite mean and put forth a kind of stomper that has the potential to wreck some serious havoc on the dancefloor full of action-ready technoheads.

Takaaki Itoh dives into the past days of his production and starts off the affair with a 135 BPM rework - thudding, deeply-rooted kicks that hit 5 times per 4 bars, panning arrays of short, speeding bell stabs, sandy and metallic bars at 16/16, chirping waves of acid and atonal pads that finish every 4 bars with singular drips and drops of synthesized substance being poured into a glass of amassing colorful fluid. DJ Surgeles raises the tempo 2 BPM points up and unleashes hefty, widely reverberated, syncopated kicks, washes of soft noise, two layers of panning 16/16 bands, open, but terse 4/4 hats, dry claps that run in pairs, series of distressing alarming bleeping signals that come in multiple layers and shapes, and a subtly gating, cold cosmic ambiance that occupies the background and adds an ingeniously sinister touch to the piece. While Lucindo's moody remix is paced at 134 BPM, its rapid, closely-running kicks that unevenly hit 8 times per 4 bars can give a sense of much higher tempo, whose subjective perception is increased even further with slightly distorted, sandy 16/16 bars, scattered, dry militaristic stabs and samples of whip strikes, all of which run against a melancholic, oscillating acid bassline which sets back to hard times of past centuries. Stingrays' trudging 130 BPM monstrosity verges on the hard edge of rhythmic noise and, as is often the case with his style, gives an impression of being a visitor in an infernal industrial factory, instead of exclusively assisting low-range bass, its clangorous 2/4 kicks are affecting high and low range in equal measure, while the abrasive, distortion-laden textures revolve and roar, creating a dense, impenetrable thicket of power electronics. What Paul Birken has conjured up in his rearrangement could be best described as an audio incantation - the property of 148 BPM paced kicks whose gain gets slightly modified in a revolving manner every tact doesn't really make a hardtechno track out of it, but rather a tribalistic, highly original (aboriginal) IDM composition, expect a few blows of flute, arrays of clonking bars, oddly bellowing synths and open hats that flirt with shifting sweeps of cymbals.

Much as the first record, the result turned out to be a triumphant celebration of knockout-and-drop-dead techno that gradually morphs into imaginative IDM - a quality product, which really isn't a surprise considering this sort of high-grade line-up.

Jerome Hill (Super Rhythm Trax / Don't) dons his Techno hat once again for an outing on fresh new label 'Swords' and opens up with 'The Creeper', a brooding ear worm of a banger that skulks around unhinged as FM synthesis drills a hole in your eardrums with solid and moreish bass keeping things very heavy indeed. On the flip we have 'Drum War' which is just that; Sharp snare rolls puncture a heaving carcass of crunchy kicks and bass with tension riding high.Also included is a bonus Drumapella for DJs to utilise when extra snares are needed!! Lastly, the original mix of 'Plastic Jam' gets a deserved release after a more stripped back drum heavy mix appeared on the excellent Power Vacuum label last year. A slightly darker approach was their intention yet still in favor of their search for perfect simplicity. Myk Derill closes the first package with an outstanding version of Reflect. The lower frequencies burst out when you expect it the least. Myk creates a groove that raises the original track to another level.

Hailing from Brest in France, Clement Landrau's release showcases his talent to make hard hitting floor ready techno. A1 Andromede is a roller with a reverberant baseline and complimentary atmospheric pads while title track Vitae swirls in and out of call and answer melodic phrases, accompanied by sweet baselines.

Los Angeles based, Modularz boss Developer, who has also had previous releases on Mote-Evolver and pole recordings, delivers two different remixes of the title track Vitae. Remix 1 is based around an alternative take of one of the melodic phrases from Vitae, while Remix 2 is a more syncopated minimal based track, showcasing Developer's rhythmic flair.

For the 21st anniversary of Regis' pivotal debut album, the Brum techno overlord has remade the scene of the crime from original stems and salvaged 8-tracks tapes. The unyielding results
effectively present a doctored version of his seminal - some may say game-changing - record,featuring new studio versions and unreleased sequences. It's basically a stronger, fitter version of
his most prized LP, loaded with sounds as brutally functional as the city which birthed them,
Originally recorded in September 1996 in Room 406, Digbeth, Birmingham aka Scorn's studio - sandwiched between Tony De Vit and Broadcast's recording spaces - Regis used 1 drum machine, 1 synth, and 1 FX unit to nail home a back-to-basics approach to techno; one inspired as much by the direct immediacy of Chicago house as the febrile DJ sets of Jeff Mills, but also drawing a crucial X factor from his background as a bit of hooligan, with form in a number of post-industrial, EBM and
punk units.
When Gymnastics first hit the 'floor it was considered shocking anathema to the swell of manicured, proggy arrangements which were by then dominating the spotlight of British dance in clubs and the media. It was loopy, stripped to the bone and shark-eyed, always moving forward and without the faintest recourse to melody or harmony - simply revelling in the gnashing tension and swerve of raw, clattering drum machines and monophonic synth jabs. Big Beat or trance it fucking well wasn't. 21 years later its lip-biting force is now felt stronger than ever. From the grumbling refusal of We Said No and the austere wall-banger Allies that boot off the album, thru the 16th note nag of Translation to the rictus jag of Sand and The Black Freighter's metallic bite, this is timeless, primal dance music that still causes friction wherever it's deployed.

All Day I Dream invites a few new names to the labels summer sampler season.
Alongside a few familiar ones too like Lee Burridge and Lost Desert with their much anticipated 'Absent Without Thoughts'.
Gab Rhome and Superlounge keeping it groovy.
New music from new artists include Budakid, PHCK and Zone+, each one a unique flavor in dreamland.

It took me a couple of years get invited to Christophe De Groot's (aka Circadian Rhythms) homebase, and a couple more years to dive into his Sonic Archive. But time tells and Basic Moves 02 is what came out. The two tracks were recorded at Earguard Studio in Brussels around 1996, at a moment when his interest was moving away from club music towards other golden musical horizons.
Frequency' is a macro tech-house track in mid tempo. I'm super happy I could archive it on wax because we almost fucked up the master DAT tape by blowing up the player during a marathon listening session at his place. We had to open the device, unroll the tape across his house (full of records) and fold it back into the mini DAT cassette. After a few hours and twenty metres of tape, the problem was solved and the tracks archived: 'A dose of authenticity at a time of post-counter-cultural stagnation'.

'House Speaker Call' originated in proto-techno forms. Christophe never sees techno as a type of music but as a process. As a producer, collector and deejay he always dives deep into authentic forms of electronic music. Deg's antic personality shines out in the middle of the harsh beat-driven electro/techno track like a hopeful melody passing by on its elliptic orbit.

* Cosmopolis is an electronic music release from artist Fonemi. This work is inspired by the novel Cosmopolis by Don DeLillo, a book that tells of a modern odyssey along the streets of a great metropolis. The four pieces here, composition of Cosmopolis, sounds as the soundtrack of an introspective journey rich in ancestral suggestions and forgotten rituals recalls over time. The undervalued atmospheres that characterise the whole work seem to be held in suspension by a percussive magma that marks the passage of the past that becomes present. Cosmopolis is a fluid that carries our lost memories.

* Cosmopolis: a tribal and primitive dance, a propitiatory rite that has been handed down unchanged over the centuries.

* Fiori carnivori: what you do not expect, the flower, a symbol of delicacy and sensitivity that turns into an inexorable predator.

* Verso Casa: the return from a long journey, the lights that illuminate the asphalt and the distant flashes of unidentified cities.

* Tra Le Rovine: an ancient song, a prayer that exorcises a universal omen.

Ed Davenport continues his full-spectrum Techno experiments as Inland with an elegant new EP on Counterchange entitled Coriolis.

The title track 'Coriolis' is a moody 10 minute voyage with a morphing synth array at its core - bright, detuned stabs are layered upon tough rhythmic foundations. The jagged metallic lead builds, unearthing harmonic bleep accents and syncopated FX swells, before folding in on itself leaving the effective tribal drum section to ride on.

'D10D3' plows forward with an urgent staccato sequence, segueing into Italo-Horror filter sweeps and noise-laden moments of drama. Finally 'Tsereteli' is a more reduced modern Dub study, continuing Ed's long running fascination with Tranced-out time stretching and after-hours vibes.

The 9th release on the label, the record features cover art by UK artist Guy Archard and is pressed on 180g vinyl.

Delroy Edwards has come a long way. 2012 marked his Introduction into the world of Dance Music via Ron Morelli's Imprint LIES. After offering up essential dance floor singles like '4 Club Use Only' and 'Heart and Soul' Edwards' established himself as a producer with a unique touch and style. With a growing desire to control his own output and make a more significant statement, Delroy set off to start his own imprint, L.A. CLUB RESOURCE.Creatively directing his own imprint became a platform for him and over the course of two years L.A.C.R. created one of the most palpable musical experiences in the field. The label released music in a range of styles from a span of generations, the only constant was the high output and stellar art direction. Many releases produced by the label head himself, Delroy's production were lauded for their piercing simplicity, grace and attitude.In his first LP for the label, Edwards' has arranged a sincerely personal moment. The 30-track effort marks a special moment in his growth blending current interests in punk and electronics into an outsider narrative like no other. From Devo to J Dilla the influences across the record are subtle but respectful. Regardless of influence, Hanging at the Beach feels unequivocally new. Experiencing the LP for the first time speaks to the Californian experience in its full range. Certain moments call to the beaches of Monterey while others speak to the sleeze that lines Hollywood Blvd. Edwards doesn't distance himself from the production style that has defined him and the label, but this effort is a long playing collection, a directed, new moment for the
prolific producer.

Back for the second volume of "Ground-Fault-Interrupt', a compilation series launched last year by the London based imprint inaugurated by Michael Wells, which has developed into a respected destination for enthusiasts and hardsteppers alike.
Remaining in a state of evolution, Weekend Circuit continues to celebrate all that's raucus and right, split across a 2 record release. Returning to the label are Jeff Rushin, PEARL, Developer, Alderaan, and IY, Stanislav Tolkachev, and Antonio De Angelis while Par Grandvik makes his debut. This double vinyl compilation is a mix of pulsating, essential, bottom heavy, and ultimately diverse techno. __
Par Grandvik and Jeff Rushin start sounds off on side A, "The Act" is a dusky concoction of church atmosphere and clean percussion, giving "Graphite" the platform to continue with an abyssal measure of agile percussion.
Side B enters with P.E.A.R.L.'s "Azul & Oro" - an exposed hyper-dash kick drum, chopping between closed and open hi-hats throughout to keep an ever elastic momentum, leaving Developer and "Lost Moments" to follow with this echo immersed, high-casualty workout of pertinent techno articulation.
The 2nd vinyl is just as downreaching and subaqueous as the first, with Alderaan's "Sequel" immersing you in ambient decadence with an industrial lean. IY's "Nara" further trips you out with an instinctive feel and likely energy of highs and lows.
The D side is inward techno at its best, reaching out to the ominous and misanthropic of society. "Framing" is a drone of slow pace drive, suitable for only the strongest in techno. "Anomaly" embodies tradition and experimentation. Distinct and abrasive in its energy, this track feels deeply personal and all atmosphere.
This meticulously arranged LP is devoid of convention, manifesting itself beyond planet-sized thinking and highlights the labels ongoing artistic vision.

The third edition of Figure's recently launched run of limited edition hybrid discs sees the label head helping a 90'ies classic to new glory. When originally released in 1995, Ian Pooley's Celtic Cross destroyed clubs everywhere with its iconic vocal sample and hypnotic bass bleeps. Len Faki's remix treatment is a sublte one, which manages to leave most of the original's Elements in tact while still expanding upon its fiercely banging character. The now sub-laden kicks stomp even heavier, the old-school drums rattle even crunchier and lashes of Faki's unrivaled hats whip the frenzied track through its now much slicker progression. Bringing the unashamed rave vibes from two decades ago up to modern production standards, this remix will have both the new generation of techno lovers as well as the veteran heads unite in joy on the dancefloor.

The Free Fall Galaxy is what we could call a cosmic menace - a threat to all that it encounters. It is a dark space in Time that shows no mercy for its prey as it devours for the means of survival. Unlike the Galaxies humanity know and recognize; the spiral, elliptical and abnormal galaxies, the Free Fall doesn't seem to have a consistent character that we rationalize, but one thing that we do know is that it endlessly consumes without becoming larger in mass or size. Where the cosmic matter goes after it's eaten is a mystery that we struggle to imagine. As a nomadic hunter, we must assume that this Galaxy holds the information that unlocks many galactic mysterious.

Nature indicates that maybe Earth has already been consumed by this Galaxy - that our accelerating sense of cyclical Time versus the decline and deterioration of matter demonstrates a conflicting circumstance that could be the result of the digestion. Not the indication of out-right growth and fortification. If we prescribe the suggestion of Einstein's quote (above), we should look deep into ourselves for answers. What is it about the Future that intimidates humans or why can't we imagine our existence decades and centuries from now The natural answer could be that there won't be a Future that we will part of.

Binny's journey as a solo artist started with a release on Orbis Records in 2012. Since then he's gone on to release a further three EPs for Orbis as well as additional releases for Monnom Black, Symbolism, CLFT, Suburban Avenue, Forte Techno, Scenery, Demarcation and Flatlife Deep plus remixes for Endlec and Fundamental Interaction. Drawn to the music of Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Surgeon, Regis, Steve Rachmad and many others, his DJ sets and production sound is tough, hypnotic, old school and most of all, uncompromising. As a founding member of the Phantom Planet Outlaws with John Heckle and Mark Forshaw, they have produced EPs on Tabernacle and Apartment Records as well as starting the Boss Tracks label exclusively dedicated to releasing Phantom Planet Outlaws material.

Poverty is violence return with a killer 5 track V/A EP... Introducing some new signings to PIV (KSP, Credit 00 and Persian) alongside co-owner Charlton and PIV staple XXX, this EP features Poverty music from across the board and doesn't disappoint.

A1. One of the new additions to the PIV stable is heavy hitter KSP of the legendary Raiden project and Kamikaze Space Program... Here he drops a killer club track that twists the techno template, injecting it with the sentiments of D'n'B... This is already getting heavy club play from all and sundry.

A2. XXX returns to Poverty with his trademark sound. Heavy as can be but coupled with a subtlety only he can explain. Hard beats and acid bleeps emphasise the groove with a slightly more funked up swing than his previous work, guaranteeing heavy pressure as XXX delivers once more...

A3. Poverty co owner Charlton chips in with a hard acid mini track that develops to a tight locked groove. One for the heads and coming on like a hybrid of late 80's acid house and 90's techno, this is a floor filling distortion of the templates.

B1. Credit 00 is another new signing and serves up a dope tribalistic 808 drum track with haunting delayed vocals. Reminiscent of a lost disco 12' dub track, this is a stripped back house groove for the more discerning dance floor.

B2. Closing the EP is the killer Persian track Don't 'Deal Wid Violence'. A pioneer of the hardcore/jungle scene starting out in '91 alongside Bizzy B, Deluxe, Trace and Zinc, Persian went on to help define the UKG scene with Same People's 'Dangerous'. With forthcoming appearances on Dekmantel and Fabric mixes he is a most welcome addition to the roster. His track here is pure original OG UK hardcore, authentic as it could be, no one sounds like this anymore.

Niro Perrone, coowner of Unclear Records and one of the minds behind Klang Club in Italy, offers up 3 brand new tracks 100% his style: the guy has a knack for writing intricate compositions, yet retaining a freshness and a catchy vibe that capture the listener right away thanks to a fine sound designing mixed with an ear for charming music. Different in style but all drenched in analogue sounds, the tracks veer off into experimental territory for most of the time. Umek continues his Zeta Reticula series for Billy Nasty's Electrix with 'EP 6'.

Last year Umek reprised his Zeta Reticula electro moniker to continue a series for Electrix, which originally ran between 2000 and 2003 prior to the label's more recent re-launch.

One of the most reliable names in techno and arguably Berghain's most prominent face, Marcel Dettmann has already once accomplished the difficult task of translating his pared-back techno sound to the album format. His debut self- titled album, released back in 2010, comprised 12 sculptures of obdurate stone and steel aimed at a pair of good headphones as much as they were a dance floor. They showed a producer as adept at intricate sound design as he was rocking the world's best club. Since then, Dettmann has released another acclaimed mix CD and a string of singles which had him move away from that LP's tough textures and into everything from liquid ambient to the catchiest music of his career.
But then there's Dettmann II. A sequel in a true sense, the album marks a return to the spirit of the first album, but things feel less tense this time around. Dettmann brings his recent experimental outlook and applies it to the album template, creating a record that lives and breathes with a naturalism rare for a techno album. Expertly paced, Dettmann II impresses especially with its carefully rising narrative. On first glance, as the album barrels into action with the particulate grit of 'Throb' and - Ductil', Dettmann is in fine style. But to the careful listener, these tracks feel lightweight like they're built from aluminum instead of steel. Each tune's central theme is a bit more out there than usual, from the sheet metal racket of 'Lightworks' to the house-hinting chorus of 'Soar', which is every bit as majestic as its title implies. He offers up some top-notch ambient material as well, like the trippy 'Shiver', or the ominous 'Outback', which features contributions from Levon Vincent.
Dettmann also reaches for a rare collaboration on his second album. Kindred spirit Emika lends her spectral gasps to 'Seduction', which stays stunningly antiseptic even as it weaves her voice into its wire framework. With Dettmann II's stretch of tracks 'Radar' and 'Corridor', the album finally takes flight into full-on club mania, fist-pumping career-high material with all the subtlety of his old work molded up into a spiky banger.
'Aim', which ends the record in lofty fashion, hints at a new direction for Dettmann, uncharacteristically melodic and even uplifting. Co-produced by René Pawlowitz, it bears the Shed touch but keeps it firmly in Dettmann's finely-honed world. The first track written for the album and the one that initiated the album sessions in the first place, it carefully hints at new directions while keeping its glance firmly in Dettmann's established history - which you could say for the album as a whole, gently moving towards new horizons but always keeping in mind what made Dettmann's past music so great in the first place.

Detroit's Burden Bros have long been looked upon with immense respect within contemporary dance music. Having been in operation since 1990 with their 430 West imprint they have long encapsulated the forward thinking vibe of Detroit Techno with their output over the last 20+ years, gaining praise from their motor city peers as well as fans worldwide. Having had success in the mainstream and an enduring underground presence they are well versed in the art of music.
'Point Blank', released on 430 West in 1996, feature some of the brothers' deeper, more subdued, futuristic technoid grooves. Not as driving as some of their other releases but retaining that Burden groove for sure, forward thinking, intelligent Techno from the D, 100%. 4 different versions of 2 tracks feature. Each mix tweaking ever so slightly what came before. After some releases on several interesting label in the techno scene, Reform make return to Etruria with their strong new ep called 'Checkmate", which includes two remixes from the Soma talent Charles Fenckler and the Belgian Amelie Lens . First original is a melodic track characterized by hypnotic synths which interchange everytime in the arrangement and also dirty and powered drums. Amelie version's express exactly her style, giving to the tracks something magic with the vocals added, making a very true and enigmatic game of chess. Second original instead is dominated by a strong pad, which fill up the mix, blowing up in the break and giving an epic feeling to the ensemble. Charles's remix is techno with no excuses: raw powerful and groovy, is the perfect end for this pack, giving a much more underground touch to the release.

Angelo Sindaco started producing electronic industrial music on tape in the mid '80 and dark techno during the nineties, releasing albums for ACV, Minus Habens, Eukatech and more. He has been the first techno dj in Bologna (Italy) at Link Club sharing decks with Underground Resistance, Aphex Twin, Theo Parrish and many others. Maurizio Carli Moretti started djing in 1981 opening for Killing Joke and Contorsions acts and then performing in clubs and art galleries mixing dark wave and electronic music.

Arcing Seas is back with ARCS-03; a unique EP of selected tracks from the first two releases, remixed by The Mover, Peder Mannerfelt and Shifted. First up, rave and techno legend The Mover presents his first new material since 2009. After using the slogan "See you in 2017" for years before, this marks the start his return. He turns Trappist into a hard hitting electro workout using original parts that explode and punish the senses. Peder Mannerfelt introduces the B-side with his take on Skull Gun. Broken beats and exciting percus-sion sit atop deep kicks, disorientating quick fire samples and rapid snares, showing how versatile and on-point he is. Finally, Shifted is called into action with a signature deep-sonic soundscape. Rumbling kicks and high frequency textures occupy the sound field, alongside reverberating samples from Vultures, making it his own. Label info: Arcing Seas is an anagram of Cassegrain. It started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple EPs on Our Circula Sound. The secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at Berghain under this name. A year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

Hippie Priest returns to Argot to release his second album, See It Through. Having made great strides at dialing in his production and strengthening his songwriting since the release of Gaia Variants in 2016, the young Champaign-based producer focuses his sophomore longplayer around a narrative approach. 'See It Through is a day in the life of a lioness", says Hippie Priest, 'Beginning with the soft ambience of waking up in the morning, leading up to an intense hunt in the middle, and into evening revelry and eventual slumber". The album's 11 tracks cover a large stretch of sonic ground to tell this story. Its glowing opener, 'Umbrella Keeper' gives way to widescreen stompers 'Thorn' and 'Quicksand' that clear the way for more contemplative moments like 'Crystal' or 'Cherry Blossom". One can't help but imagine a dramatic hunt while listening to 'Are You Okay' or carnivorous displays on 'Desire". Even tender scenes are possible with closers 'Tanuki' and 'Tired Lioness", gorgeous movements in which Hippie Priest's melodic profficiencies shine brightest. Ital & Halal is the psychedelic new collaboration between shadowy producer Aurora Halal and Planet Mu's iconoclastic Ital. Recorded over six months, each track is a spiraling world unto itself, coursing between strobing club anthems and ephemeral headtrips. It opens up with the propulsive "Ascension," its uplifting cosmic chords colliding with insistent rhythms, then leads to the softer, dubby melancholia of "Phase 2."


On the B-side, "The Thirst" weaves paranoid, spectral voices in and out of focus against seedy, hypnotic techno. "The Day After" wakes up in the ruins of the night before.


"The Day After" follows closely on a string of stellar EPs from the recently-reinvigorated Lovers Rock, Ital's "Throbbing/Nodding," and Earthen Sea's masterful drone/dub exploration "Mirage," as well as Halal's solo debut "Passageway" on Mutual Dreaming.


Ital & Halal will perform their first and possibly only live performance Saturday April 5th at The Bunker's presentation of Unsound NYC.

Riding high on the success of his EPOCH EP in February, John Monkman makes his debut on Crosstown Rebels with HARMONIX, a celebration of the Moog Voyager, whilst techno heavyweight Matrixxman supplies the remix.
A true master of his craft, Monkman has been creating music for over a decade and his passion and experience shine through his productions. HARMONIX was born after the UK producer and DJ limited himself to just one synth, resulting in 'interesting harmonics and a rawness that comes from syncing the oscillators, combined with an overload hack that gives the sound a little more juice'.
Sophisticated and formidable, HARMONIX 1 and HARMONIX 2 are orchestrated around the legendary Moog Voyager, with charged high hats that fracture the driving beat. US producer and DJ Matrixxman completes the EP with an imposing remix, verging on cinematic and brimming with atmosphere.
Continually building on his solid reputation, John Monkman has previously collaborated with Pete Tong, and released on labels including; Kompakt, Get Physical and Noir.

The second release presents a new front left artist - Daito (Lenny Jäzosch).
Daito is the Japanese term for different kinds of swords, used by samurais.
This describes his sharp and detailed sound without the lack of emotions & soul. Being a regular raver, his productions are dance floor motivated, containing special moments that can be felt when you are dancing to it. His influence comes from an earlier style of techno with a raw and inspiring sound.
On the B-side, you will find Elad Magdasi - a regular front left raver who debuted on the first release(Finger Trip EP). His style is classic, diverse and 90s influenced. Elad is returning with two different types of techno creations.

The second edition of 'Vicarious Memories' by These Hidden Hands realises 5 finely crafted remixes of last year's expansive LP of the same title. This version features powerful reworks from Telefon Tel Aviv, Hypoxia, Lustmord, JK Flesh and Death In Vegas, out on June 23rd, 2017. Telefon Tel Aviv offers up his reinterpretation of 'Glasir;' a solemnly disconcerting reduction of the original flooded with warmth, depth and space. This is followed by a contribution from Hypoxia a.k.a the illustrious Drumcell, who makes his mark on the beautiful vocalised track 'Telepath,' imparting a heavy sense of melancholia and depth on to the listener. A dark atmosphere is woven by Lustmord on his remake of 'Socotra,' with its enveloping celestial melodies and ominous reverberating drones that unfold throughout. JK Flesh boosts the energy of the release with his distinguishably distorted mix of industrial, dub and power electronics that shuffle and roll the listener along this spectrally bright reincarnation of 'Dendera Light.' British producer Death In Vegas embraces the mystical facet of 'Angkor;' patiently exploring serene soundscapes with much depth and colour.

Frak are Björn Isgren, Johan Sturesson and Jan Svensson, a trio of synthesizer lovers from Sweden. The band was formed when Svensson and Isgren's older sisters were best friends and they introduced their little brothers to each other. Inspired by Severed Heads, DAF, Human League, Devo, Skinny Puppy, the boys began collecting analog equipment and started Studio Styrka. While the band were still in their early teens they released the first FRAK cassette album in 1987 on their own record label Börft.

Almost 30 years later, FRAK continue to release their bizarre brand of Scandinavian techno with their debut release on Dark Entries. 'Sudden Haircut' was recorded in 2015, a ten-minute brooding, heavy hitting acid attack full of 808 drum claps aimed at the dance floor. The three remaining songs come from a studio tape the band found in their archives named 'FRAK "After The Silence" 2001-2010' 'Synthgök' and 'Synthfrilla' were recorded in 2010 and originally released on the 'Börft' EP by Sex Tag Mania in 2012. Utilizing a 808, 303, 101 and MS-10, both are supreme cuts of electro leaning acid techno that perfectly fit the sweatiest moments of any club land experience. The deliciously rugged final track 'First Glimt I Ögat' is a vintage unreleased Frak song from 2001 recorded one month before the track 'Second Coming' (later released as B1 on 'Börft' EP).

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Designer Eloise Leigh has created a playful DIY jacket based on a mysterious black and white photo of the band in their classic tin foil masks. For the first Smoky Window release, we are more than excited to introduce local gun Searaime and to present his debut EP : Casual Frequencies. Fed and grown by the abstract works of the likes of Autechre and Aphex Twin, his record is the result of experimentations led from his south side Marseille's studio, with four long cuts protraying his various production trails : from dreamy ambient to raw break core, through complex and subtle broken and electro anthems. The - Arbol del Tule' (tree of Tule) in Mexico is the thickest tree in the world. Equally phatt is the bassline, that directly brings it to the front on A-Side.
Soon, selected percussions and a harmonic touching melody merge into a wide, drifiting and soulfully sound-carpet. With slick modulations
and different synthies, this carpet takes you away on a journey through the track's arrangement.
The highest living trees on earth belong to the species of the evergreen Redwood tree. Using gentle chords, first track 'Redwood' on B-Side
carries you off into the treetops of a mystic forrest, just to bring you down to earth some moments later with a kicking drumset. Striking surfaces
and whizzing, stomping sounds provide for a well-rounded rave-factor, that is constantly built up to the end through changing melodic elements
and breaks.
- Montezuma', last tree and track on this EP, is a real musical plank. Playful tones are dancing over wooden kick and stunning subbass and couple
with blurred effects. Here, too, the arrangement convinces in setup and structure performs magic to this perfect peaktime bomb.

The Brooklyn Sessions bring together old and new Pinkman friends. Annanan returns, this time with Maroje T, for three pieces of NY darkness. Acid tainted torment opens the 12", pain and rejection catalogued in the barren "Confrontations in Terms of Sexuality." "I Saw You" maintains that cold edge. Militaristic percussion is dipped in industrial grease, lost samples circling in a haze of distortion. The pair explore reduction with tracks being boiled down to leave only distilled dread behind. The breathy vocals of "I Am" close, drum patterns looped into machine groan and the aching abyss.

Only few artists in techno music have been able to develop a unique signature in sound like Eduardo De La Calle did. Even after releasing more than 90 vinyl records in almost 20 years, the Spanish mastermind is still one of the most enthusiastic persons when it comes to preserving the - real people and places in our beloved scene. Despite touring the world as a DJ and putting out his music on big-name labels, he has always supported small labels and underground institutions around the world. The spiritual
approach to electronic music he's teaching with his music has been a big inspiration for many listeners, DJs and producers. His latest release on Night Defined Recordings is another precious add-on to his unique lifework
of music.

Berlin's cult techno duo Exercise One release their newest 12' featuring 3 tracks. One track reminiscent of the past, one track gazing at the future and a time defying remix by Locked Groove. 'timetrap' has always been the dark horse of Exercise One's back catalog, so they decided to go back to the original idea of the track and see where they could take it. A few sessions later their ears were happy and 'timetrap 2016' was born. The staccato groove and eerie hook of the original now live in a much more powerful and demanding surrounding. Exactly what they where looking for. To take the idea one step further they asked prolific producer Locked Groove, a fan of the original on Wagon Repair, to rework the track and they received a gem in return. His lush, trippy remix takes a totally different path, meandering around a perfect balance of melody and seductive rhythmics that have made him such a sought-after producer. '502 last sequence' is the newest creation of Exercise One and nicely rounds out the release. Slightly rougher and darker, the track perfectly displays where the duo's heart is at currently. A track built on genuine machine love, the Handwerk Audio studio has again left its mark on their output...not surprisingly.

Opening up this seriously hot four track EP is a staple track in the Detroit techno history. Carl Craig's BFC project released 'Galaxy' in 1990, and has lost none of it's futuristic charm since. Dark, mysterious and so deep, you could drown in it!

Track two comes from the mighty Dutch label, Djax-Up Beats, and is a captivating and beautiful piece of Norwegian techno from Ismistik, coming over like a love scene from a future sci-fi movie.

On the flip, more retrospective action from Carl Craig's Planet E label, this time from Sherard Ingram's Urban Tribe project. One of the most interesting tracks to come out of Detroit, 'Covert Action' is a powerful and evocative piece of electronica.

Closing the sampler is Jay Denham's short, sharp shock of tension-stroking techno, only 4 minutes in length but a brooding dark composition that featured on legendary Fade II Black releases on Derrick May's Fragile label and licensed to the UK's techno home, Network Records in 1990

With a broad bandwidth ranging from - futuristic-deconstructive' compositions such as 'Da Dang' by Alex & Digby and 'Fragile' by Carlos Nilmmns or the many contributions to Q that fancy almost anachronistic acid and trance influences: Everything sounds fresh and forward thinking! The vocal parts and the arrangement of 'All I Can (About you)' by Baba Stiltz appear like electronic singer songwriting. The musical approach of Baba Stiltz is slightly similar to big Pepe Bradock productions and their Dada aesthetic. This is the first project of a series of vinyl, which aim is to explore the deep link between man and analogic machines. Every track is sampled by analogic hardware machines in order to keep the unique, distorted, boiling sound like only these instruments are able to do. Exercise One, no strangers to the world of techno, have returned to their roots with a new EP for the heavily curated label of Eric Cloutier's, Palinoia. Four tracks, grounded in the history of techno yet looking towards the future, these hardware based jam sessions were fleshed out to provide not only peak-time floor workouts but are equal parts heady grooves. A-side tracks "Heptagon" and "Prism" fill the room with walls of sound and heavy kicks, where as the flipside's "Nitrogen" and "Thirty Four" offer a more rhythmic funk.

Ovum are proud to present a very special remix release as Josh Wink's 2015 future-shocker 'Denial' enjoys not one but two versions from Luke Slater. Splitting his complex multi personality across two sides, the UK techno lifer explores his innermost dual psyche to create two wholly different tracks. Both of which reflect the strengths of the original while taking it into vastly different directions. First up: Planetary Assault Systems. One of Luke's oldest and boldest alter-egos, here he provides a nuclear powered bulldozer of a version. Fission hisses and mechanical rasps wrap around the undulating groove that charge relentlessly with a dark funk coded into the bass. Watch out for the additional percussion and brash snares midway for added atom-splitting momentum. LB Dub Corporation follows. One of Luke's shyer personas, this is the first LB Dub Corp production since his Ostgut Ton album 'Unknown Origin' in 2013. A deeper, rolling analogue groove is at play here, suddenly dropping to reveal the loopy, automaton vocal loop from Josh's original to awesome hypnotic effect. Two distinctive, forward-thinking, visceral floor-focused remixes from one of techno's most respected, long-standing and prolific minds: Remix packages don't get any bigger than this.

Ever since their initial singles were released in the mid-1990s and became international calling cards for the Chain Reaction label, the Porter Ricks duo of Thomas Köner and Andy Mellwig have represented that crucible point in which techno music leaked into new social environments and became the background music for cutting-edge cultural critique.

Their submerged 'scuba' sound, presented in dark tone colors and reverberating to infinity, is now instantly identifiable as one of the 'soundmarks' of Berlin club culture. Just as importantly, it is still a palpable aftershock of a pre-millenial genre explosion that saw deep dub, shimmering post-rock, abstract hip-hop and art-damaged noise all drinking from the same well of inspiration.

For proof of Porter Ricks' enduring legacy, look no further than the fact that 'dub techno' is now a stylistic movement that has expanded far beyond the confines of Berlin and the Basic Channel / Chain Reaction label alliance (where Mellwig's mastering skills also played a starring role). Lurid traces of PR's aesthetic can now be found in the work of producers like Andy Stott and Miles Whittaker, showing the potential for the duo's unique 'aquatic' techniques to be applied to a variety of different musical contexts.

Their new LP on Tresor, Anguilla Electrica, may be their first full-length release in seventeen full years, but it radiates with confidence and with a clarity and intensity rarely seen in a world so oversaturated with communications noise. It's made clear at once that it's a continuation of a sonic ideal rather than a tribute to what has already been achieved: the duo is not idly sitting back while their newer acolytes do their talking for them.

This new LP is well worth the wait and is a life-affirming one in an uncertain and perilous time, drowning out daily anxieties like a rush of incoming surf - yet it is far more invigorating than relaxing. True to the Porter Ricks tradition, it will be just as exciting hearing this music as it will be to experience what new cultural mutations it leaves in its wake.

Under the moniker Shed, Pawlowitz published three highly ambitious albums in which he defined his work more and more as his own way of musical narration. 'The Final Experiment' is definitely the temporary highlight of this evolution. As musical work it does establish Shed conclusively as one of the most interesting and substantial electronic music artists of our time. It carries a vibe, that links Shed to other boundary breaking artists such as Ryuichi Nakamoto, Brian Eno and Carsten Nicolai. However, Shed found a way to develop a highly individual way of communicating electronic music, that is self-sufficient. 'The Last Experiment' is a mostly homogeneous piece of work, a meditation, where the stylistic confusion seems less important than then musical statement that it represents.
