Dasha Rush Sleepstep - Sonar Poems For My Sleepless Friends

»sleepstep« is the first collaboration between raster-noton and artist dasha rush. the record's subtitle »sonar poems for my sleepless friends« describes its underlying concept - »sleepstep« is a trip through electronically alienated micro-compositions and sound collages that, interwoven with text passages, aim at creating a dream-like atmosphere.the stations of this journey are striving for oblivion of time, an immersion, a drifting in universal states - death, life, birth, grief, desire. the titles often appear to be raw sketches, fugitive, surreal short stories that rather want to break open than execute.the musical arrangement, in this context, can be described as rather subtle and fragile. though electronically manipulated, no production technique is pushing itself to the fore. and though clichés are not dreaded, »sleepstep«, as a result, stays away from being cliché. the sonar poems for her sleepless friends are feminine, subtle and personal reports. a musical dream journey in the form of a classical concept record - an album that also stands in the tradition of ambient music.dasha rush is already known as a techno dj and producer. here on »sleepstep«, she celebrates her alter ego. the cd version comes with a 32-pages booklet that also shows her photographic interest and includes the aforementioned poems written by her. the album's vinyl version is now to follow on may 11, 2015.

Herla - Her Fellows Reluctance

12inchBAREHANDS001
Bare Hands
13.02.2014

Herla is the collaborative effort of two Austrian producers who´ve tipped their focus of sound towards warm analogue warmth, rugged drums and earthy soundscapes achieved through an amalgamation of analogue hardware.

Bare Hands, the newly formed label of the duo, is dedicated to delivering rough british influenced Techno and other related material. After their debut-release 'Shadows of a Conclusion', Herla themselves are contributing the label's first EP release, which contains three rugged and driving tracks for connoisseurs of a harder, distorted sound.

The release kicks off with 'Bold Font Method', a percussion-driven vibe whose heavy elements and dark synth line are particularly captivating. Nearly seven minutes long, this track fires up the dance floor with its energetic ride and rattling tambourine sounds.

The B-side provides two equally compelling numbers. The recurring, darksome and 303-heavy bass line on 'Raddled Scriber' lays a solid foundation for the cracking, metallic percussion cadences interspersed with acid sounds. A rough, swaying synth added towards the middle of the track, creates an almost apocalyptic atmosphere.

'Tossing Barrel', the second B-side track, is carried by a snappish hi-hat. Aside from its rhythmic elements, this vibe is also distinguished by a combination of a high, short Moog-synth and a deep, coarse bassline, while a down-pitched voice sample gives it a mildly eccentric attitude.

Irregular Synth - No Compromise

Organism
06.12.2013

Next up on !Organism is Italian techno purist Vincenzo Palumbo aka Irregular Synth a producer who's unwavering focus on the dancefloor has shot him up through the ranks in recent years. His boisterous synthetic sounds come on labels like Perfekt Groove Recordings and the likes of Richie Hawtin support almost everything he releases. Here Forest People are also enlisted to remix.

'Dark Vision' is just that, a lively bit of minimal techno with plenty of percussive clatter and quick-licked beats working in overdrive. Detailed with icy hi hat ringlets, spangled synth sounds and plenty of wind tunnel atmospherics it's a searing techno cut for the high point of any set.

'No Compromise' is much more stripped back in comparison. Warped, warm tones stream next to supple kick drums and plenty of sub bass helps give the track a fat and fulsome feel as it surges on next to huge steely hi hats.

On remix duty is Bosnia & Herzegovina's Forest People, aka Dragan Lakic, a young DJ and producer turning plenty of heads with his work on Spoilt Rotten Records and others. His textured remix has plenty of serrated surfaces, ripping synth lines and growling bass loops that all add up to a tumultuous and tense techno ride.

Last up on this heavy hitting EP is the serene and ruefully melancholic 'Just A Dream' that seems to race on towards and uncertain fate whilst a sombre synth line waves its way between brutal beats.

Another fine paring on Organism! That matches the veteran skills of Irregular Synth with the soon to break through ideals of Forest People.

Sedvs / Stock Projects - European Moral Standards

Viennese techno imprint Bare Hands is pushing its rugged, warm analogue sound towards new territories with‚ European Moral Standards'. Following up their first release, Bare Hands opt for rather eclectic Soundscapes, yet keeping analogue roughness and a spontaneous feel in their focus.

On side A, Herla's offshoot Sedvs, leaves the comfort zone of 4x4 with ‚Ritual Purity', delivering a sonic exploration of rough, stabbing waves of synths embedded in gloomy, washed-out drums, yet keeping one foot in the club with ‚Protect and Serve', a true 'left of the field' delicacy, meant to cook up the floor right before the main dish is served.

The B Side, host to mysterious outfit Stock Projects, kicks off with‚ ,Same 1', a toolish, subby basement workhorse driven by a relentless kick topped with hypnotizing hats to send any floor off into lock step. ‚Same 2' however, provides a bouncy neo-technoid cut, reminiscing the gems of a lost era without stepping too far away from the dodgy, sweaty dancefloor it calls home.

Bare Hands'‚ European Moral Standard' EP arrives in a limited run of black vinyl and includes hand numbered postcard artwork on raw 250g paper.

D Func / Marcel Heese - Thought Control (140 Gram Vinyl 12")

For Finitude Music's 5th release, label owner Marcel Heese and Alexander Kowalski aka d_func. share their visions on ""Thought Control"". Both tracks on the EP harbour the same intent, but each of them approaches it in a different way. d_func.'s take revolves around Sahko-like bleeps - if you are into early Mika Vainio or Sleeparchive - look no further! But instead of being loopy, it's definitely a builder. Its original trance track-like structure is sure to rock many an underground dancefloor. Marcel's vision is slower and less straight-forward but creates and maintains a high tension. Based on dense a bassline and intricate soundscapes, it builds up slowly, only to explode halfway through. An extra payoff also comes at the very end of a track - its noise/ambient outro making a perfect way to wrap up an amazing party at 8AM somewhere deep in the heart of Berlin.

27.01.2016

Agony Planet is an unrelenting and bold debut from a trio not afraid to explore the dark caverns of the underground.

Fantasy Techno collective DUST - a trio comprised of audio engineer Michael Sherburn, DIY nightlife entrepreneur John Barclay and multi-disciplinary artist Greem Jellyfish - will release their nightmarish, alien horror narrative debut full length, Agony Planet, January 22nd on Mike Simonetti's new 2MR imprint.

Immersed in Brooklyn's DIY rave community, all three mem- bers held roles in the genesis of notable extinct venues 285 Kent and Trip House, and now Bossa Nova Civic Club. In 2012 Sherburn and Barclay joined forces to found DUST and were joined shortly thereafter by Jellyfish; the following year they released their first 12', 'Onset of Decimation,' on Man- nequin. Between 2013 and 2015, they released several more 12's, two on Mannequin, as well as one for Sci-Fi & Fantasy and one for 2MR.

Over these years, with Sherburn at the helm, the framework and themes for Agony Planet began to be conceptualized. Twelve tracks, spanning in genre from digital hardcore, dun- geon techno, and celestial ambience, are all held together by a theme of extravagant extraterrestrial warfare. Club-savvy techno engineering accompanied by frontwoman Greem Jellyfish's bizarre monologues and warped screams beckon listeners on a journey through the occult mysticism of the nightmarish and torturous deep ocean of an alien hell.

Fabrizio Rat - La Machina Ep

From France comes Fabrizio Rat with a 4-track EP constructed entirely from acoustic piano and drum machine. Mr. Rat's unique sound design blew our ears away, particularly at a time when so much techno is more reliant on following a blueprint rather than trying to push the frontiers of what is possible, which to us was always the true raison d'être of techno. Here's a little more info about Fabrizio - I'm a Pianist, composer and producer crossing musical genres, from techno to contemporary music, improvised music to electronica.I developed a personal sonic world on the acoustic piano transforming it into a synthesizer and a groove machine with DIY techniques and objects.
Pianist of Cabaret Contemporain (electro-bio) and Magnetic Ensemble playing festivals and venues throughout France and Europe, Canada and USA.Other projects are La Machina (solo, with a prepared piano and a drum machine), Jukebox, Barber Mouse and Luna Maze. PHANTASY SOUND
25.01.2016

The highly anticipated follow up to his 2015 debut EP, ARC, Kamera returns to continue his journey on Phantasy with four diverse new tracks that serve to expand his visionary take on modern electronica. Conceived during a series of gruelling training sessions while cycling Mont Ventoux, the internationally infamous French mountain otherwise known as 'The Beast of Provence', Ventoux captures Kamera's vision in it's most intriguing and singular form so far.

Opening the EP, Consignia begins as a deceptively simple yet infectious drum track, before descending suddenly and mercilessly into a rabbit hole of industrialised techno. A raucous yet precision built tool perfect for the most submissive club environments, it refuses to adjust its ceaseless energy as it continues to unfold into euphoria.

Complimenting such an uncompromising introduction, the more playful title track, Ventoux, radiates a neon tinged sound that will doubtlessly chime with admirers of high concept electronica from Sheffield to Detroit. Complex and impressive synth work undulates throughout to create a wistful and utopian atmosphere, one that suddenly vanishes just as it begins to crystalize.

In much less dreamy fashion, MFI5 is a masterfully frenzied passage of dancefloor darkness. Helpless acid modulations and chaotic samples are ceaselessly manipulated around two powerful breakdowns; one offering some respite, eventually concluding with another that sees the track collapse under the weight of it's own power.

Concluding the EP, Voodoo Canape is stripped of rhythm, and what begins as an understated drone reminiscent of the likes of Tim Hecker, slowly unfolds into a triumphant and otherworldly crescendo, gradually and gently dissipating into an ambient wavelength that could happily loop ad infinitum.

Melding both the cerebral and the physical with ease, Kamera only continues to perfect an unpredictable sound that's both refreshingly futurist and yet completely timeless.

Szare - Parched / Scored

Manchester based Project 13 continue to bolster what's quickly becoming an extolled catalogue of UK-indebted Techno - one that has already garnered support from an impressive collection of tastemakers including Ben UFO, Pearson Sound, Pariah, Robag Wruhme and Alan Fitzpatrick. In the follow up their first two releases fromAcre and Divided (with Hodge on remix duties) with the next instalment courtesy ofMindset and Idle Hands affiliated duo, Szare.

Also hailing from Manchester, Szare are a pair who utilise brash, concrete kick drums, tribal rhythms and unforgiving synth tones to forge a cold and unforgiving sound that pair them perfectly with Project 13. Their Parched / Scored EP shows Szare delving deep and one fans of the P13 series will relish: 2 dogged club-cuts that hold no prisoners.

'Parched' kicks things off with metallic drums set dramatically rattling and pinging through the mix before a tough, rasping bass tone swells into focus. Patient in it's progression, a tense, stormy tone is dialled throughout before 'Scored' sets a rhythm tumbling through sharp, hissing percussion. Natural sequencing sees elements dipped in and out as more tense pressure is maintained in another fine addition to the Project 13 series.

"Spatial Orbit Intersection is a take on the retro space-age fetish that swamps my generation and electronic music producers in general. The narrative and aesthetic all point to science fiction and the start of a new age of consciousness for humanity (or lack thereof) but the underlying concept is more about choice, escapism and the tendency to passively expect change that ultimately never arrives, while forgetting to actively appreciate change as it occurs... a bit like Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Sebastian Phillip - People In The Club Ep

At a young age still influenced by U.S. HipHop stars such as N.W.A., Public Enemy or Run DMC, the love to electronic music has also been growing over the years. Sebastian Phillip has since appeared in numerous prestigious clubs in the country and also at the Berlin Loveparade. Since his studio debut in 2009, much has developed. Most notably his sound, which he now wants to finally present to the crowds - with the help of the 'People In The Club EP'.

Of course with this title, we all expect club music here and this also comes into effect immediately - pumping, driving and always addressed with a focus on the groove. Ben Anders puts more emphasis on melody and harmony passages in his remix, but not working besides the main theme. In addition, Sebastian offers 'Love' as well, a track with tribal influences and a great idea of the main motif. To round it up, the remix of Lorraine continues right there.

His successful combination of Techno, House, Minimal and Tech-House reflects a diverse range of sounds. It's a great feeling to dance and celebrate to Sebastian's music - especially in the club - and exactly for those people there 'People In The Club' has been produced.

Support by: Kruse & Nuernberg, Markus Gardeweg, Rich Vom Dorf, AGENT!, Betoko, Rob Makzem, Kevin Over, Noir, Marcus Sur, Sven Kerkhoff, Hannes Fischer, Sascha Riot, Dry & Bolinger, PHABEL, Sascha Kasper, Daniel Gorziza, Flint Westwood, Muovo, Mike O Velja and many more.

Marco Shuttle - Sing Like A Bird (reprise)

'Visione', with a new two track single that sees Shuttle return to more dancefloor driven territory. 'Sing Like a Bird (Reprise)' is a fresh version of the track originally released last year on Peter Van Hoesen's Time To Express label, to which Shuttle fans will have become familiar with in recent sets. It maintains the original's hazy reverbed flavour, but in the form of a more groove-oriented and psychedelic edit that sidelines much of the original's vocal track in favour of a snake enchanter-like synewave melody, for a less lyrical but equally musical new take. The B-side 'Back Here' is an older track that Shuttle has been holding back for a while, waiting for the right moment to reveal this atmospheric, melancholic and melodic track, in which intricately delayed layers of piano keys progressively unfold through a rich percussive background made of 808 rims, deep bass kicks, heavy toms and jazzy hats and rides.

Better Person - It's Only You

You're not sure why you decided to come alone to this karaoke bar. A sudden desire for people-watching, you suppose. You don't sing anything, just nurse a drink near the back. For the first half-hour, nothing out of the ordinary happens. Then, another spectator, one you've noticed hovering by a side wall, takes the stage. A slightly tinny drum machine comes forth from the P.A. The song is instantly familiar, but you can't quite place it. It must be some mostly-forgotten hit from the '80s that you haven't heard in years. At first, the singer's delivery is as shy as you'd expect from a fellow wallflower. But slowly, you come to perceive a deep, quiet confidence in his voice. He obviously knows the song by heart. He occupies it as if it were home. Actually, you think his rendition might be truer than the original performer's, although you still can't recall who that was. Although it might just be your second drink taking effect, you've almost begun to suspect that there is no original, that the enigma on the stage in this unremarkable bar, is, somehow, performing an entirely new song for the very first time. As the tempo slows and he begins to gently croon the next track, you become sure. By some weird turn of Lynchian magic, this man on the stage has reshaped the room to his will, coaxing his own private music out of the karaoke machine.

This is the kind of scenario one imagines when listening to Better Person's smoke machine pop. His (Adam Byczkowski) enigmatic stage presence is matched by his elusiveness as a recording artist output: while he's already toured with the wonderful Canadians TOPS and Timber Timbre, and as keyboard/guitarist with Sean Nicholas Savage, at six tracks It's Only You is his longest release, encompassing the critically acclaimed singles "Sentiment" and "I Wake Up Tired."

While the EP's sonic touchstones - torch songs, Sade, Arthur Russell, synthed-up European and Japanese pop from the 80s, French and Italian movie soundtracks - are all unimpeachably romantic, there's a more Romantic undercurrent of isolation that begins from the way It's Only You was made - all recorded on a computer at home, on Berlin's Pannierstrasse (the same street where Magic Island's Wasted Dawn was recorded last year.) Byczkowski brings to the fore an aspect of the recent embrace of New Romantic soundscapes and R&B emoting: crooning as a form of self-seduction, a kind of therapy, an impossible compromise between the irreconcilable poles of intimacy and isolated self-sufficiency. The title itself casually, elegantly captures the paradoxical phase shift which occurs when the movement toward closeness becomes a plunge into solitude. It's Only You is the sound of turning down the mood lighting so low you're no longer sure if anyone else is there.

The transmutation of being-alone-with into being-alone ignites a fixation on memory, and most especially on its entanglement with place. On repeated listens, It's Only You slowly reveals itself as a work of (self-imposed) exile behind a facade of seduction. In the aftermath of intimacy, one is left with only sensual remnants - smell leads to memory ("I found a smell that takes me home" Byczkowski sings in opener "Somebody Cares") and memories, of home and of people, lead to the question of place and belonging. In "Somebody Cares" "I found a smell that takes me home" leads into "I try to notice all the things around" - reminiscence of there demands attention to here - but he concludes "God only knows where I'm gonna live." "I Wake Up Tired" features the plaintive request "Show me a place / where I feel home" while the refrain in "Everything Cold" asks the question on the mind of every expatriate in Berlin: "Why is everything closed on Sunday night" In the still astonishing "Sentiment" the singer is left unsure of his identity, with only sentiment remaining, precisely because he will "never be from here." The real revelation of It's Only You may however be the closing track "Your Smell" which, atop a tragicomically funky shuffle, wraps in a cocoon of beautiful confusion all of Byczkowski's themes: lost love, lost locales, and finding oneself again, fleetingly, provisionally, in their pursuit.

CD2A09
Two Acorns
01.02.2016

In the fall of 2012, I was asked to create music for a live yoga event at Yougenji temple in Northern Tokyo. The performance was centered on the yoga instructor with the musician playing to the back of the audience, so that music served more as a live soundtrack for the event. For this I created a new piece of music using two reel-to-reel tape machines, and two tape loops of keyboards with similar time structures, but each with different, overlapping chords. They played simultaneously, crossing in different combinations, and with manual alterations of the volume and high/low settings on the machines. While changing, it maintained the same sound and makeup throughout.

During the performance many people fell asleep, and seemed to drift off to another place. Sometimes it seemed like they were waking up, but it was only the evolution of the yoga exercise matching the music. Surprisingly, throughout the entire performance, and ever since, whenever hearing the piece of music, I am immediately reminded of my grandmother. When I was 6 years old I moved with my parents to the house of my great grandfather, next door to where my father grew up, and where my grandmother still lived. She had been bed-ridden for several years by that time, and would remain so until her death when I was 11.

Somehow this music continued to fill my mind with those memories of sitting in her room, watching tv late at night with her when my parents were out to dinner, or the hazy lace curtains on the windows, moving in the afternoon breeze. I remembered that stillness, the warmth of her voice without any complaints, despite the restricted isolation, and the ever-present surroundings never changing. Seeing the audience in these motionless-to-waking states brought this memory back to me, though exactly why I can't be sure. However, because of this, the music was given a background, and a dedication.

Clement Landrau, Kristian Heikkila, Max Jahn, Alex Bau - Recycled Tracks Pt. 5

assive release for a proper start into 2016 with three highly technoide treated tracks from Clement Landrau, Kristian Heikkila and Max Jahn. Alex Bau`s taken their demos to the lab and seasoned it with some heavy bass- and powerful soundmixing and re-editing for a proper dj-usability. Twirly stuff from Clement Landrau from France with his amazing track "Uncontrol" while Alex actually did a complete rework of Kristian Heikkila`s "Block" and finishing off with the more than uplifting "Reactivate" from Max Jahn, an old fellow from Munich technotimes. What a package!

Eindkrak - Divine Bovine

Eindkrak

Divine Bovine

CassetteUP003
> Germany
05.04.2019

Golden hooves of the sacred bovine crack into the rock of Mount Sinai, a mob gathers and screams convulsively, cries for the holy bull, and in a religious fit the spastic dance begins — the sinners melt their golden teeth for the prophetic bull's golden horns, nothing can stop the frenzied rapid body motion that lauds the Divine Bovine. Heavily influenced by early electronics and the initial industrial currents from the 1980s, Amsterdam's Boris Post studies physics and mathematics the day while making music at night — distilling his narrow and creaking of D.I.Y. electronics colliding with the poetry of Dylan Thomas throughout the seven tracks that make up his first release on the label. Unseating by its simplicity, Eindkrak's approach remains innovative enough by confronting shrill beat-driven tunes and dissonant mutant vocals, hammering the rhythm in the most grotesque way possible; one for the freaks.

Gate - Saturday Night Fever
  • A1: Asset
  • A2: Licker
  • B1: Caked
  • B2: Hijack

"Saturday Night Fever" takes the concept of the movie of the same name and stretches the night a bit later, the fever a bit higher to the point where the party ends up blending into something much more sinister and wild. What starts out as a disco drumbeat with funky guitar swagger and melodic horns, may slowly deteriorate into some sort of corroded ambient loop that eventually morphs into melodic horn samples.. Basically every track is subverting it's own gestures, carving out a narrative of interruption and stretching the disco template in directions simultaneously embracing and mocking the form.. In a way, this album is a sequel to "A Republic of Sadness", embracing the criticisms people had of that album and expanding on those flaws. The resulting album sounds like Morley's pulling out some heaping doses of the hermit boogie and Otago funk and stretching it into some sort of Basinskian disintegration loop gone Bernard Bonnier zonked mutant scene.. There are so many moves within each of the four extended tracks, that it feels like that illuminated dance floor is always slipping beneath your feet. I promise it'll be worth the effort, twinkletoes... - Pete Swanson

Good Willsmith - Things Our Bodies Used To Have

Things Our Bodies Used to Have, documents a 36 minute session of structured improvisation, presented without overdubs, that sends the band's dense multi-instrumental performances spiraling off into new trajectories through the noise, drone, and free music disciplines. Vocalist/synthesist Natalie Chami traces a complementary path to her solo work under the TALsounds moniker, building layers of choral loops in real time through effects pedal manipulation. Doug Kaplan and Maxwell Allison, who explore strange corners of the experimental underground as heads of the label Hausu Mountain, lock into a state of symbiosis with Chami and each other as they pour guitar, drum machine, and electronics into swelling arcs of textural detail. Good Willsmith piece together a uniquely hybridized vision of extreme music just as capable of confounding on a moment-to-moment scale as when taken in as a seamless whole. To listen to their sinuous live explorations is to follow the path of their seemingly telepathic communication from person to person, gesture by gesture, as they shift through discrete atmospheres and instrumental configurations in a mutual pursuit of overwhelming self-expression.

Like Good Willsmith's LP The Honeymoon Workbook (Umor Rex 2014) before it, Things Our Bodies Used to Have captures a live take of a set whose structural benchmarks were locked into place over repeated performances on tour. On the album's A side, instances of a recurring theme played by the whole trio bookend a series of sketches in which one member takes the lead role while the others support: Allison loops and mangles a cassette tape's playback before streaking into the red with the peals of a bird call; Kaplan rips into a labyrinthine guitar solo that evokes the tie-dye chromatic fantasies of Jerry Garcia and the bottomless reverb of Keiji Haino; Chami pounds out a lattice of cyborg wails and pulses from her Korg MS20 while she laces her own screams into the chaos. The album's second half sinks into an intensifying trudge through a swamp of pitch black synthesis and churning bass tones. Electronic tambura drones and whistling oscillators creep into the mix alongside garbled voices borrowed from thrifted tapes and LPs, each contributing an anxious monologue to the dirge. While Allison's melodies chime over Chami's elegiac chords, she layers her voice into a towering emotional climax that merges with Kaplan's tremolo picked guitar into a gale of static that sweeps the trio's shared seance back into the darkness.

La Monte Young & Marian Zazeela - Dream House 78'17"
  • A1: 13 I 73 535-61403 Pm Nyc
  • B1: Drift Study 14 Vii 73 92727-100641 Pm Nyc

Aguirre is proud to present Les Séries Shandar, a re-issue series with a selection of minimal music records from Shandar's adventurous catalogue. This classic minimal music album is now available again on vinyl for the first time since the 70s.

La Monte Young, widely acknowledged as the father of musical minimalism, is one of the most influential contemporary composers. Yet he has strictly monitored his own discography and his music is rarely heard. Born in a log cabin in rural Idaho in 1935, Young became a key figure in the New York underground art scene of the early 1960s. He made vital contributions to the Fluxus movement and initiated the use of lofts as performance venues. Most important of all, his exploration of sustained tones, unorthodox tuning, high volume and long duration changed the course of twentieth-century music and ushered in new ways of listening.

This LP, initially issued on the French Shandar label in 1973, is a crucial document, preserving two manifestations of Young's pioneering creative imagination. Each side stretches out to the standard length of an entire long-playing record (39 min per side). Listening to the sounds captured in each groove you are lifted out of routine temporality into a prolonged and personal here and now, an intimate kind of time that no clocks can measure.

On the first side is a performance by the Theatre of Eternal Music, the group which Young formed specifically to realise his radical musical conception. The name was coined in February 1965 to indicate that this ecstatic droning music had neither beginning nor end, that it came from and returned to a state of silence, where it lingers in its full potential until some musicians play its component tones once again. The group's line-up, which changed over the years but always featured Young and his partner Marian Zazeela, boasted such luminaries of new music as Tony Conrad, Terry Riley and John Cale. Cale carried lessons learnt from Young into his work with the Velvet Underground, and through that seminal group to new generations of indie rockers and noise experimentalists.

On this recording the voices of Young and Zazeela are combined with the trombone of Garrett List and the trumpet of Jon Hassell, now more widely known through his work with Brian Eno. Although the immediate impression created by the music is that it changes little, close listening reveals intricate activity in the high harmonics where unexpected patterns and phantom melodies skitter across the surface of the music's enveloping drone. Young and Zazeela developed their vocal technique through intensive study with North Indian singing master Pandit Pran Nath, and traces of that influence can be heard in their subtle ornamentation of the sustained tones.

Sine waves provide the basic threads that hold together The Tortoise, His Dreams And Journeys. Sine waves unadorned form the Drift Study on the second side of the LP. Such pieces were conceived as continuous sound environments. Since 1962 Young has nurtured the notion of a Dream House, in which such work might be installed, playing continuously and taking on a life of its own. To a seated listener this Drift Study appears a very pure form of minimalist musical drone, but move around the space in which the piece is playing and you will hear dramatic variation in the loudness of different frequencies, while your movement will itself alter the structure of air molecules in the room, affecting the way the piece is heard. It's a fascinating probe into the nature of sound, hearing and spatial awareness.

The Shandar label, under the musical direction of French musicologist Daniel Caux, produced a small but select catalogue. It includes recordings by Albert Ayler, Terry Riley, Sun Ra, Philip Glass, Cecil Taylor, Steve Reich and Charlemagne Palestine. During the early 1970s this was the cutting edge of new music, and today these recordings are still challenging, uplifting and revelatory. This reissue preserves the original artwork, an integral part of that special Shandar magic but also a fine example of the design sense and calligraphic grace that Marian Zazeela has brought to the presentation of La Monte Young's singular music.

'My own feeling is that if people aren't carried away to heaven I'm failing,' La Monte Young in 1966

Ricardo Donoso - Saravá Exu Remixes

In January 2015 'Saravá Exu' was released - Ricardo Donoso's most demanding album filled with arcane musings and rich cinematic majesty highly lauded by international press for its high degree of sophistication. Now, a year later we present 'Sarava Exu Remixes' - a collection of reinterpretations' by some of the most talented musicians working in contemporary electronic music today.

Industrial techno luminaries Orphx take the reins on leading single 'Vesperum' and turn its bombastic 'Zimmeresque' landscape into a pummeling piece of broken techno in a way only Christina & Rich know how, despite the current swarm of dilettante's trying to emulate their sound. John Flynn's Spaces, responsible for production duties on Björk's Vulnicura album closer 'Quicksand' mangles and lacerates album central point 'Gallicinium' to near indistinguishable form with huge nods to early era Warp. Archie Pelago breaks down 'Matutinum's dark core and provide a beautiful arrangement for strings & horns including some dramatic accompaniment for the tracks main 11/8 ostinato. Dark ambient pioneer, and label mate, Thomas Köner ends the proceedings with a mind-blowing interpretation of 'Diluculum';

'Sarava Exu's complex and multi-dimensional closing number into a sophisticated piece of sub glacial tones & atmosphere, focusing instead on the inner side and calm characteristics of a fairly violent tune, recalling his early work for Barooni in the early nineties. A new window into the universe of 'Sarava Exu' by some of the most compelling electronic musicians working today.

Pheromoans mark their ninth year of existence with the release of their fourth album, 'I'm On Nights', following 2014's Hearts of Gold and 2012's 'Does This Guy Stack Up'

A largely electronic affair, this new ten-track LP - recorded in Manor House, north east London - refracts vocalist Russell Walker's stony poeticisms through a lens of analogue synths, while etching drum machine clicks and spaced out keyboard ditties into the bigger picture. Guitars and bass still make an appearance - helmed by Christian Butler, Alex Garran and James Tranmer - but they've mostly been eclipsed by the scrappy, artificial beats which now underline Walker's diary-like, ennui-soaked rhymes.

Album opener 'Wizard' - with its blocky, Bizarre Love Triangle-esque intro and unnerving pins and needles crackle - jolts you awake with charges of experimental noise. Then there's the plaintive synth pads on the LP's eponymous, stripped back tear-jerker and the acid squelch of 'Depressed Wobble'. Because, with 'I'm On Nights', musical touchstones take on a myriad cult guises, from the downbeat minimal wave of Solid Space or Absolute Body Control, to a hypothetical vision of Dan Treacy crooning caustically over 'Mari' by Martin Rev. That's not forgetting, of course, the outlier crop of new wave-y post-punk bands which this time around see the likes of Datblygu and Young Marble Giants step up to the plate. And, as always, there's the requisite nod to all things DIY and Messethetics.

Walker says he hope this new direction will create some distance away from a certain demographic; '...An attempt to alienate further the other dads at the nursery gates who kept slapping my back firmly and saying 'nice work keeping our music alive compadre', and trying to graft their aviator shades onto my forehead and contorting my fingers into the devils headset," he explains.

Featuring titles like 'Don't Spread It Round College' and 'Brad's Crush', the bulk of the LP's lyrical content reaches back into Walker's 16-18 year old psyche; "It was at J. Sainsbury (Produce) in Uxbridge where I discovered the joy of working alone at night unimpeded and free to delve further into my hitherto unexplored imagination...!!" he explains. And it's this theme of (oft night-time) employment which cuts through the biro scribbles of Walker's quotidian missives; 'temp work suits me / shift work corrects me' he opines on finale track 'Rock & Pop Quarrel'.

Hailing from the holy trinity of England's most southern locales - London, Brighton and Hertfordshire - Pheromoans currently consist of Russell Walker on vocals, Christian Butler on guitar & electronics, Alex Garran on bass & electronics, James Tranmer on guitar & electronics, Scott Reeves on drums & electronics and Dan Bolger on keyboards.

Thomas Köner - Tiento De La Luz

A tiento is a form of keyboard music that originated in Spain in the mid-15th century. Thomas Köner's first encounter with this musical genre was initiated by an invitation from the Frankfurter Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (Frankfurt Society for New Music) to do a live performance. For this performance Köner chose to do an interpretation of Antonio Cabezon's "Tiento del primer tono" (1570), that he rearranged and played with gongs, keyboard and live-electronics in 2012. "Tiento de la Luz" is Köner's second tiento, succeeds "Tiento de las Nieves" (2014) and precedes the upcoming "Tiento de la Oscuridad". While "Tiento de las Nieves" is a work for solo piano and live-electronics, the instrumentation of "Tiento de la Luz" is more diverse: in addition to Köner's distinct live-electronics, there are two parts for keyboard, percussions, and viola da gamba.

For Thomas Köner the difference between writing purely electronic music, like "Permafrost" (1993), and creating music with classical instruments and electronics is only gradual. The core of Köner's works is always a sense of place (topos) and tone colour. He often travels around the world and records sounds and images, and this can result in sonic topographies like "La Barca" (2009), a panorama of 22 locations on five continents, or "Novaya Zemlya" (2012), based on his engagement with an island in the Russian arctic. Köner experiences the colours of place and tone as unique voices of these locations, while being aware that these expressions are just surface effects.

The starting point for Köner's work is his understanding of that sense of place and tone, the awareness of its radiance, and the distinction of what it is not: It is not a realization that could be accomplished by pure field recordings. Similarly, the place, the seed around which Köner's creative process unfolds, cannot be a geographical one, and neither a temporal one. In fact, according to Köner, the 'eternal now' commonly associated with music or its experience is a myth and just does not exist, because the "now" never appears without a timeline. In the liner notes to this album, Köner even goes as far as to claim that "Music does not exist". "And how could it", he continues, "The beat has no presence and can only point to the following beat, the insubstantial note depends completely on its neighbours in the melodic line, the chord is dispensable after its harmonic release and one abstract noise obstructs the other. These elements are obviously marginal, peripheral gestures that I have emphatically peripherized in my work."

The only expression that is independent and able to communicate itself according to Köner is tone colour. In the finishing words of the album liner notes, Köner states: "And as it became clear, the mysterious seed, the topos of all sonic expression, lies in tone colour, or better, lies in the awareness of it, which is its resonance. The textbook definition of tone colour can only describe what it is not: qualities of sound that are not related to pitch, volume, or duration. Tone colour is therefore the absence and yet the total presence. For example, a mother reading a fairy tale to her child is reading words made of letters - but the child hears the mother's 'I love you' in her voice. This is resonance. I throw a pebble in a lake and there is resonance. If the pebble is dirty, there is still resonance. There is a sense of purity. Thoughts create resonance. Sounds create resonance. Resonance is pristine, detached of the object. Appearing as tone colour, sound has the potential to become its own resonance, effortless and luminous."

Lo Shea - Northern Lights Ep

Sheffield's Hopeworks has become an essential melting pot for the cultural and musical future of a city whose electronic heritage has surpassed its industrial one.
As creative director & resident DJ Lo Shea, returns to the vinyl arm of this warehouse institution with a statement of intent & a lithe follow up to last year's Deep Draw EP

Following his successful Seaghdha series, Lo Shea continues to flesh out a distinctive sound which is informed and inspired by all those late nights. Expertly programmed modern sonics possessed by the spirit of 90's rave & the UK's characteristic Bass influence. Northern Lights leads the charge - a mechanised, syncopated stepper that could easily be a lost SunkLo release
Elsewhere soundscape interludes sit alongside atmospheric, precision club jams, with the B Side struggling to contain the two stout A Side cuts it has to hold in place.
A recent Resident Advisor podcast, winning plaudits across the board as well as away games for Phonica & Dext are certainly cementing a assured future for Lo Shea & Hopeworks !

1115 - The Drowned World

1115 are an experimental kraut-rave-IDM duo consisting of grey and fehler kuti. The two met in Munich in 2015 and started jamming in fehler's kitchen in the Westermühlstrasse. Grey operates a virtual 808 drum machine, bass and organ synthesizer, while fehler kuti uses, loops and modulates his voice. Their performances are rythm heavy hypnotic jam sessions that range from noise soundscapes to techno like club raves. Imagine Dieter Moebius and The Residents attending a Hauka Cult ritual or Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Spaceman 3 jamming on a cruise ship down the river Ganges.

The title of their debut record The Drowned World is a reference to J.G. Ballard's novel of the same name. The author depicts a surreal future in which the borders of the subconscious and the material world collapse and the pounding of jungle drums drives men and women into isolation: A psychedelic dreamland.

To Ballard the most menacing future scenario resembled the absence of crisis, which he encountered in a suburb of Düsseldorf, a place where freedom could only be found in the field of psychopathology.

1115 are currently recording an album produced by Cico Beck and Markus Acher set for release in 2017.

Love Over Will

12inchRS1515LP
R&S Records
25.01.2016

Following his hallucinogenic EPs'Dust' and 'Green Man' for R&S, Alex Smoke returns with his latest opus 'Love Over Will', perfectly crafted electronica, brimming with layers that mixes depth, euphoria and social commentary in equal measure. Love Over Will sees Menzies further exploring the melding of his voice with intricate electronics and discordant melody.

The title 'Love Over Will' is a play on "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will", the central tenet of Thelema, created by famed occultist and ceremonial magician Aleister Crowley, with the central thread of the album being "a statement on the times we are living in, but with an optimism relating to ways forward that are possible".

Also Menzies's work has been informed by his ongoing installation work with artist Florence To, primarily on the links between sound and spirituality (ritual music, psychoacoustic effect).

The album's palette of otherworldly strings, distortion, clicks and synths acts as a bed for Menzies' voice, calling to mind the emotive fragility of Arthur Russell, at times confessional, others loudly declamatory - 'Love Over Will' is unquestionably Menzie's finest work to date.

24.10.2013

SP-X returns to Komisch for a fourth EP of uncompromising warehouse techno. Pushing his machines to the limit, he delivers two no nonsense, analogue tracks.

'Jack Cracker' is built on the kind of clunky drums, insistent rhythms and firing percussion that have become his signature sound, while the deranged industrial riffs and wild tonal bleeps will push any dance floor over the edge.

SP-X continues with his exploration of jacking techno on 'Transmission'. Insane frequencies get tweaked continuously and collide with a wild siren riff from inside a matrix of hissing percussion and a merciless, streamlined rhythm.

Raw, functional and relentless, 'Circuit Breaker' captures the unique sound of SP-X banging the box.

Neueheimat - Quartier 3 Heiko Laux Remix

"neueheimat" is joinig the cirque du minimaliste family on its sublabelmanege with his debut release "quartier3".
"neueheimat" was founded near hamburg in 2012 by dennis grell.
after working for many years as a commissioned producer and remixer for publishers and labels, dennis wishedto start his own,new project and truly realise his creativity.conceptually, the aim is for the music to blend seamlessly with his photographs of
urban architecture and to document the anonymity of life within city walls.influenced by artists such as anders trentemøller, jon hopkins, trent reznor and the earlier einstürzende neubauten, dennis began creating his own definition of electronic music. "neueheimat" and subsequently "quartier3 ep" are characterised by dennis' clear style of production: a few lighter passages, but primarily creating a deep and murky impression.
large spaces leave room for interpretation and present the listener with images that either they have never seen or have been missing for a long time. created on old analogue equipment, mixed on a 30-year-old tape recorder and mastered by mastering engineer, stefan betke (tresor, cabaret voltaire, lucy, laibach), "quartier3" is a significant milestone in dennis' production history.

P.e.a.r.l. - Desolation

Celebrating all that's ear-piercing and Techno, P.E.A.R.L. surges through with an emanating soundscape of near, far and leftfield embodiment of energy. Following on from the well received Ground Fault Interrupt, P.E.A.R.L. brings his Spanish stamina and Berlin influence to the table in Biblical amounts.

Abrasive and dancefloor-focused "DESOLATION" is no stranger to the harder sounds of percussion. With a subtle ghost, and ever tense, this track rides through red traffic lights, and begins at the end of your comfort zone; Techno at its best.

Evoking a visceral reaction, "IN SPACE" exerts its crude, unearthly series of paranormal Techno sound from the get go. A long drawn tool of the trade, comprising of little more than drone and percussion, this gives way to be adapted into any mix in the right hands.

"FLAME ON EARTH" doffs in salutation to the afterparty. With a constant identity of beep and bleeps - continually growing from somewhere from within itself - this track leaves a trail where no path lies.

Cascading between dark and light, this is a release of effectual Techno worthy of any record bag, regardless of your sub-genre preference - a real weapon of profession.

21.01.2016

MOSDEEP is back with a fascinating four track EP, The Tales Of.. Part 1, that veers from slow and beatless to fast and energetic.
It comes from R-A-G and is a soundtrack to a distant world with corrugated drums, free flowing synths and lots of mysterious forces at work.

Up first, 'Visitors' features Fat Nancy & Flappy and is a slow, trudging cut with spooky deep space synths slowly unfolding around distant vocal whispers. Gurgling bass fleshes out a fat bottom end and the whole thing is like a slow-motion ride through the galaxy. 'The Conversation' is three minutes of beatless and moody sonic landscaping, with various heavy pads and icy ticks suspending you in an unsettling darkness, with reverberating vocals echoing of into the distance. 'We Are Not Alone' then totally flips the script with kinetic, machine gun lasers, coarse and chapter claps, elastic acid lines and lots of dance floor clout. 'Medical Condition' then features Fat Nancy & Flappy once more and is a perfectly restrained, seven minute ride over broken kicks. Big harsh claps, gurgling synths and gloopy pads all spread out in all directions with you at the centre and this one is sure to make for some freaky, weird moments on the dance floor in the dead of night.

The 7th installment on the Brothers label sees a whole new batch of collaborators join the family, along with one previous member from BROS003

A1: Randomer and J Tijn, team up to serve up a slab of noisy, driving bleepy, unrelenting techno that will cut through any dance-floor like a knife to butter whilst sending you to another dimension. A belting track, filled with licks of class.

A2: Brings together Shawn O'Sullivan and Fifth Wall boss, Gaul Plus (aka Houndscales) for a step heavy, distorted power house, hints of grime, shimmers of house, wrapped in a bubble of glorious distortion; it really is a little weapon, use it wisely.

B1: We have Bintus, Power Vacuum's head honcho pair up with Japan's dub techno artist Hinori Takeshi, slamming out an 80's infused, broken, grimey techno smasher. It has nuances and sounds you can only feel/hear after repeated use.

B2: Shawn and Gaul are back with another short sharp hit of grime influenced techno goodness. Snares that snap and cut, kicks that pound through the floor all layered with a hook that is uber-infectious.

American-born Eric Cloutier has long been a purveyor of meticulously crafted DJ sets holding residencies around the world as well as talent scouting for the mythic label Bunker New York. Recently beginning to release his own material, he carries the same approach and attitude into his productions has he has done in the past with his epic DJ sets. Deep, mysterious, and mesmerizing, have been used to describe his sound, which can be undoubtedly recognized in the smooth bassline and dubby overtones of 'Raxeira'. In a comparable mood, 'Palimpsest' introduces a profound yet groovy undertone that echoes through space and time.

On the flip side Donato Dozzy, a contemporary legend of hypnotizing music, exploring the trippier side of music, finds himself as a well-suited compliment to Cloutier's style as he dives deeper adding entrancing layers to the title track delivering a prime time piece to captivate any crowd. Oscar Mulero - Muscle And Mind

Oscar Mulero

Muscle And Mind

2x12inchPOLEGROUP031 2X12"
PoleGroup
04.05.2015

Muscle and Mind is the return of Oscar Mulero to long plays, after Grey fades to Green and Black Propaganda. 'Muscle' and 'mind' may seem antagonistic terms in real life, but in terms of music they make sense together, especially when talking about techno.

The coalition of introspection and abstraction is not incompatible with the rough and the percussive, and this
album is a good example of this. The underlying message behind the title refers to the reflection of mental states in the body, the genesis of emotions where body and mind are managed by the sense of hearing.

Throughout these twelve tracks, one can dive into the musical world of this producer whose discourse mutates in every album, always intricate, always meticulous. Darkness acts as a thread and repetition as hypnotic therapy. But now, he sets his usual hard sound aside and looks for a much more cared for and precise sound , where there is room even for a harmony and musicality that go hand in hand with danceability.

The combination of atmospheres and rhythms is constant throughout the album. Each of the cuts has been prepared with few sonic elements. He takes elements away one by one, and keeps exclusively the necessary.

A record that has been developed during endless hours in airports and travelling, absorbing influences from all over the planet. Made in solitude but surrounded by people who don't know what you are really doing on that computer. To close the circle, the album was mixed in professional studio using solid state technology, which gives this work a unique warmth that cannot be achieved in a domestic environment.

Muscle and Mind will be released on vinyl and CD. The digital version will include extra tracks which will also be published in an EP. This will precede the album with edited tracks from the album and remixes by Stanislav Tolkachev and SHXCXCHCXSH.

Various - Retrospective Vol.3

LOOSE RECORDS is proud to introduce RETROSPECTIVE - a celebration of our first thirty releases by Europe's top, underground techno artists. Coming from a broad berth of influence, RETROSPECTIVE represents the past, present, and future of European techno. Our Artists take electronic music to a new level with orchestral experimentation and their fusion of cross-genre. RETROSPECTIVE will be available on vinyl, digital, and as a collection on a double CD.

DISCOGRAPHY
LR RETROSPECTIVE, Vol. 3

Track Description:

'Outpost' (Spektre) is a versatile anthem that encompasses several genres into a cohesive piece. The beginning gives the impression of a clock, the drum track falling in time with a circular melody. With the progression, the song doesn't lose that sensation of time as it intensifies, commanding the full attention of the listener.

'Clips' (Hollen) is a delightful track that would welcome anyone into a club. The intro has a beat that's easy on the ears, progressively building with intensity and pace. Soon, Hollen plays with pitch, bringing the melody through scales experimenting with a mixer. With a heavy bass line, the song intensifies but not overwhelmingly so near its conclusion.

'A Line' (Audiomatiques) opens with a throbbing, deep bass that fully commands the attention of the listener. Soon that heaviness is joined by cymbals and high hats. A rattling is pulled through a remixer to welcome a slightly faster tempo and more experimental sounds. The tightness of the song and crisp distinction of these tracks make it an ideal candidate to be remixed although it is a fantastic stand alone piece.

Supported by: TIMMO, JOSEPH CAPRIATI, JAKE CHILDS, SASHA CARASSI, MARCO BAILEY, RAUL MEZCOLANZA, KAROTTE, PARIDE SARACENI, THE ADVENT, FILTERHEADZ, TOM HADES, SLAM, LOWKEY, MISSTRESS BARBARA, JEWEL KID, UTO KAREM, ROBERTO CAPUANO, LUIGI MADONNA, DEMA, ALAN FITZPATRICK, WILL KINSELLA, AXEL KARAKASIS, MICHEL DE HEY, STACEY PULLEN, FRACTIOUS, OSCAR AGUILEIRA.

Dasha Rush - Timid Ocean Drawings

Collecting orders for repress!
Deep Sound Channel is starting 2014 with the multi-talented producer Dasha Rush. The clouds loom and the night approaches as "Ocean Sharp", a precise and powerful work, breaks. Complex patterns draw the listener in, Rush building the energy with acidified bars and bubbling basslines. Leaden streaks fold with piercing percussion for a post-midnight journey below. But just as ashen night turns to charcoal the dawn sun burns through the mist. "Ocean Shy" melts away the sinister echoes, eroding the darkness with an amber Ambient light. 303 swirls fade and rise against a broad and beautiful soundscape, pin pricks of toms dappling the vista. A piece of 90s inspired radiance. Coloured vinyl only release. Superb.

Dj Hyperactive - Venus Revisited

With the present release, Chicago born and bred DJ, producer, teacher, and brother of the humble, Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive has provided us with a truly remarkable four track EP. CLR086 covers a wide spectrum of the sonic and artistic possibilities, which make modern Techno as irresistible as it can ideally be. There is the minimalist, bouncy original, elegantly playing with a mixture of uplifting and dark vibes, then there is the extremely reduced and highly effective Truncate remix, the relentless, almost epic Ciren mix and the percussive and hypnotic remix by the man DJ Hyperactive himself. Each and every one of those versions can be appropriate for a different situation, but in the end they are all aiming for the same goal - to create an absorbing soundtrack for unifying experiences on the dance floor. The 'Venus Revisited' package and particularly the quality level of the present versions pay full respect to the outstanding original. CLR086 is a highly recommendable release for all those who appreciate uncompromising, cutting edge Techno with loads of groove and untamed energy.

Moderat - Iii (digipak Cd)

You can call them a »supergroup«, but Moderat understands that it's the »group« aspect that makes them interesting.

Gernot Bronsert, Sebastian Szary (aka Modeselektor) and Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) have been working together as a trio almost as long as their two separate projects have existed. We've seen their collaboration grow from »laptop boy-band,« (as Ring playfully puts it) in 2003—with computers synched using software Ring himself had written, because at the time, »there was just no live performance software around.«

Ring confesses that Moderat wasn't »really meant to be a recording act ,« with Bronsert agreeing that, »it was really just about fun.« This maybe explains the six-year break that followed Moderat's first EP before they finally returned in 2009 with their selftitled debut album. Intent on creating something that contrasted with their own projects, the group started the cycle which blossoms on their second album, aptly titled II, culminating now in the trilogy's completion, III. Whereas I was the combination of two separate entities, II brought the members closer together, and in III, the final chapter in the trilogy, Moderat sounds like one band.

Both Szary and Ring will tell you that Moderat moved progressively from making tracks towards a more traditional writing approach of making songs - a process more fully realized on III. That's partly why the vocals have become more prominent. Mostly, you hear Ring singing (there are no guests this time), as he so often does as Apparat, but listen closely to »Ghostmother« to hear Bronsert and Szary backing him up. Stepping out of their comfort zone is the kind of thing that helped create their interplay between pop and electronics, doing it right won them the Resident Advisor Best Live Act honor as early as 2009, and they continue to gain popularity while remaining independent and underground.

Szary describes the idea behind Moderat as, »imagin(ing) yourself sitting in the cinema and watching a movie with an incredible soundtrack.« This is true with Moderat in general, but III in particular pairs an emotional pull with sensual imagery, creating dynamic sound and depth with lyrics such as »the calming scent of lavender fills the air,« or »burning bridges light my way.« You'd have
to ask them whether they're intending to manipulate the listener in the same way that John Williams or Hans Zimmer might with traditional orchestras.

One of the best parts of Moderat is their use of electronics to achieve orchestral diversity. They update the songwriting tradition with an intriguing palette, borne of careful attention and skill, informed by their »experiences with sounds of nearly 25 years of suband club culture.«
Let's not forget that these three were brought together by Berlin's now legendary rave scene. With this as their common foundation as individuals, III signifies Moderat's maturation in modern pop — an achievement shared under their collective belt.

Bronsert explains that, »the new album isn't based on jams. We went into the studio and knew exactly what we needed to do.« This is reflected in the sophisticated themes explored in the music. Take »Ghostmother,« which ponders inner peace, acceptance, fear of the unknown and how facing that fear often reveals something not so scary. Or »Running,« which is about being part of a mass that constantly needs to move to function, but doesn't have the power to decide the direction of motion. Or how about the wisdom of »Reminder,« which recognizes the world for its flaws and our role we've each played in that, but choosing to act differently and light the way to something better.

Given that, it's a bit of an understatement when Bronsert says, »I'd say our music has definitely matured.« Successful in their own endeavors, now they've mastered the »group«. It doesn't mean the end of Moderat, but it does mean they'll have to find something else to excel in.

Moderat - Iii (digipak 2cd)

You can call them a »supergroup«, but Moderat understands that it's the »group« aspect that makes them interesting.

Cocoon Recordings keeps on celebrating the arrival of the new year and with our second release in 2014 we present RAR's first 12 for Cocoon Recordings. 'RAR' is the current project joint of RAMPA and RE.YOU who made large waves last year with releases like 'Everything' by RAMPA on 'Keinemusik' - one of 2013s top tunes! 2013 saw also RARs first work for Cocoon Recordings with their 'Cocoon Compilation L' contribution 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' (feat.: Meggy) which turned into a heavy clubhit, too. Since then the two joined the Cocoon Artist Booking department and their first tour is about to start in a couple of days. Their new Cocoon Recordings release is a cool teaser for what to expect life-on-stage from RAR and features three berlin-morning-flavoured minimal house tunes. Imagine yourself sunday morning at 7am in the Panoramabar and Ricardo Villalobos drops 'Do We' by RAR. If you ever eyewitnessed one of these nights and wish to get back there here's your soundtrack to do so.

We are extremely proud to welcome the raw talent of Aggborough to the OTB family. Brain behind the legendary Vikings Nights (R.I.P) in London, designer for William R Green and Studio White label, once part of a celebrated DJ duo (which we won't mention), this man can do more than opening a can of sardines.
The Answer to Everything
Raw, industrial, compact and dangerous.
Bustling with energy, the groove is the answer to an epic vocal
Mitzperamon
This track is entirely made up of field recordings made during Aggborough's stay in ... Mitzperamon, Israel.
The track evokes the unbearable heat, the blinding sun crushing down on the local workers. The air vibrating and heavy with ozon. Dust till dusk. And then finally some rest. As the sun goes down the earth starts to breathe again. The heat makes way for colours.

  • 6: Just When I Think About You
  • 7: Sometimes Back

  • 12: And It All Ends Here (Feat. Antonello Salis)

And it All Ends Here (feat. Antonello Salis) Short info: As both a producer and the helmsman of the Outis Music label, Dino Sabatini has carved out a distinctive musical style that shows a great reverence for both ancient archetypes and future possibilities for change (see, for example, his Mnemosyne' co-release with Edit Select, in which each track is dedicated to a separate Greek goddess). With one foot planted in a mysterious past and the other foot planted in a world yet to arrive, Sabatini's works are carefully realized emotional journeys that intertwine shimmers of optimism with undercurrents of poignancy or nostalgia. His latest full-length offering, Omonimo' (that's homonym' for non-speakers of Italian), brings all of this to fruition on a record that demands (and rewards) deep listening. After a pulsating Foreword' massages the mind and prepares it for the story that Sabatini is about to tell, Choosing the Right Way' blankets the listener in a rainy day ambience punctuated with tantalizingly distant vocal refrains and nimble piano. At once solemn and erotic, it sets the pace perfectly for a set of tracks that have a cohesive feel, yet all use their own sonic vocabulary and color palette to tell unique variations on the story. It's My Forest,' for example, sticks to the reliable trip-hop / mid-tempo framework while introducing quick snatches of tabla and signaling, hovering synth arpeggios. Follow Me' retains the lush synth pads and cycling percussive loops of that track, and then things take a turn for the slightly darker with The Unexpected,' a sudden uptick in percussive punch and apprehensive intensity.

From Scratch - Five Rhythm Works Cd

Beginning in 1974, based in New Zealand, the sound-performance group From Scratch used an evolving array of percussion instruments to create a distinctive rhythmic music, texturally rich and tonally sumptuous, making use of found and repurposed objects as well as custom-made percussion instruments.
And while the music has a sophisticated, fluid and intelligent polyrhythmic drive, pitched percussion features prominently, using microtunings and just intonation in tightly structured pieces which evolve and mutate, making use of intricate interlocking of melodic and rhythmic elements. Given their Pacific identity, one can find similarities with a number of Asian Pacific musics, their music will appeal to open-eared listeners interested in such musics, and it will also intrigue admirers of the early
work of Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Formed by Phil Dadson on his return to New Zealand following his late-60s involvement in the U.K.
with Cornelius Cardew's Scratch Orchestra, Auckland's From Scratch embraced an egalitarian ethic, focusing on co-operation, integration,
and the union of opposites. These principles are clearly heard in the music here, with all the players interlocking, with the music exploring and exploding the polarities of melody/rhythm, local/global, group/individual, minimal/maximal. These four tracks, ranging from 1974 to 1982 are propulsive and yet serene, percussive and yet
sweetly tonal, and toe-tappingly alert, an immersive and distinctive soundworld. All tracks here are newly remastered from the original
master tapes, "Passage" was their first recording and is previously unissued.

Inigo Kennedy - Requiem Remixed

Inigo Kennedy's Vaudeville LP was undoubtedly one of Token's highlights of 2014. Now, following hot on the heels of Antigone's twisting 'Cantor Dust' EP and Ø (Phase)'s sweltering 'Tunnel Vision/Internal Conflict' 12", 'Requiem', a standout cut from the album has been resurrected across an all-star remix EP from the label. The release sees some of the most notable figures operating in the techno scene today turn their hand to the track, from sonic explorer Efdemin to Birmingham veteran Karl O'Connor, aka Regis.

The original's twisted melodies are beautifully fragmented across Efdemin's opening offering. The Berlin based artist drops the mesmeric riff down a few semitones, unleashing them alongside nitro-charged rhythms. Dial-tone bleeps and razor sharp hats are set in contrast to the original's sleek, melancholic synthesiser-play, vaulting forward swelteringly intense.

As the EP progresses the interpretations seem to get progressively more bent out of shape. Raster Noton mainstay Kangding Ray for example provides a skittering, paranoid recast of the track. Groaning, ethereal soundscapes hover imposingly above thudding, broken-beat rhythms and jagged hi-end drones. Regis on the other hand harnesses the original's bulging low-end, putting his characteristically rugged stamp on the track. Whilst an ominous low-end throbs in the blackness, vapourous atmospherics are put into full-effect alongside a warped riff, steadily decaying as the track progresses.

Closing the release, Dasha Rush pushes the original as far as it can possible go, bringing discordant piano melodies and distant voices together in a thoroughly disorienting reinterpretation. The Russian born artist is patient in her building of the track, it is not until past the two minute mark that she lets booming kicks and stuttered hi-hats fire.

The artists selected for the project have been curated with much care - pushing 'Requiem' to its outer limits and re-imagining the track in ways difficult to conceive of before. However given Token's history of bringing to light the most diverse corners of dancefloor music, maybe nothing less should have been expected.

Paul Woolford - Orbit / Mdma

Following 2013's ubiquitous smash 'Untitled' and last year's heavyweight 'Erotic Discourse' remixes, Paul Woolford returns to the Hotflush fold with a double-headed cerberus, 'Orbit / MDMA'.

Flexing signature versatility, Woolford goes from heads-down to hands-in-the-air in the flip of a record: a dance floor locked in to the twisted sirens of acid rave (Orbit) experiences a sudden belly rush as it collectively comes up to piano breakdowns and female chant (MDMA). Towering and physical, the record epitomises Paul Woolford's enduring popularity.

Shinedoe - *2* Illogical Directions (the Remixes)

Last May saw the release of Illogical Directions, the third album by Shinedoe, to be released with critical acclaim. Surely a mesmerizing highlight in the artist's career, the album represents several deep and melodic excursions in nowadays deep and tech house, while her own imprint Intacto Records also added a beautiful gem in its discography.

Now the Amsterdam based DJ delivers another momentum for the world famous label, with an impressive line-up of producers reshaping some of her already monumental tracks into something completely new. Yes, the remixes are upon us!

Illogical Directions The Remixes Part 2
Things are about to get even more profound, proves Jerome Sydenham with his remix of Wo Wei. Originally a simple, funk filled groove, the New York veteran creates a straight up house classic out of this bonus track, beautifully build around elegant synth lines and sounds that seem to come out of drum computer heaven.

If that isn't enough, Dutch own Tom Trago also takes a shot at Essence, this time evolving into a slow burning moment of euphoria, broken house music from the deep, it's as vivacious as it can get. Finally, 'mister Dial' Lawrence takes care of Panomanic again, letting piano chords take over a delicate rhythm before the music moves into faraway, melancholic atmospheres, a more than fitting complement to Shinedoe's creation.

feedback:

Anja Schneider: very cool remixes. Not sure which I like the most. Will play all of them. Lawrence is at the moment my favorite. Thx for the music.

Joel Mull: Jerome Is bringing a Hypnotic warm heated track! Love the straight arrangement on this one. Thank you for the Music. X J

Synthek & Audiolouis - Unwise Remix Series #1

First part of Unwise Remix Series which include Polar Inertia, Tadeo and Aubrey.
In the following releases: Neel, Varg, Antigone, Zadig, Sleeparchive, Fabrizio Lapiana, Ken Karter and Kwartz.

Unwise Remix Series' has the involvement of artists which represent Synthek & Audiolouis main points of reference and inspiration, artists who acknowledged the potential of Unwise and accepted to get involved in a great re-edition of the principal cuts of the album. Tadeo inaugurates this first installment with an outstanding reinterpretation of Thread Between Us'. Keeps the aggressive mood of the original, raising the impetus with slender hi-hats, haunting chords and devilish synthlines, all elements that clearly manifest the powerful imprint of the spanish producer. Aubrey concludes the first side with a sophisticated rework of Broken Pad': an unpredictable groove made of fluctuating bleeps and drums, embraced by spacey soundscapes strewn with sonic drills and fragments. Delivering the final blow on the flipside, Polar Inertia's work can be seen more like a long journey, than an actual remix of Unwise, main track which gives the name to the album. The final 8-minutes-cut brings an extreme dose of deepness to the release, pervading it of a surreal atmosphere crossed by violent droning flashes, while from a dusty, heavily texturized basslines rises a thin but empowering beat, that finally embrace the distinctive (and desynchronized) riff from the original. A superlative gathering of styles and influences that leads Synthek & Audiolouis sound to a completely new level, giving the chance to re-study the Unwise album from different, refined perspectives.

The final part of this three part sampler series calls upon Artefakt, Iori and Szare for three more tracks of minimal techno that are stuffed with evocative imagery. Producer duo Artefakt's 'Narcosis' is first and is a tunnelling bit of rich, soft edged minimal techno with subtle celestial pads, Iori gets much more aggressive and textured on his warehouse wig out that is 'Inject' and finally Szare's 'All Over' (which is exclusive to the vinyl sampler of Collection) is a kinetic, tightly programmed bit of playfully rhythmic techno with raw claps and plenty of thick sub bass. Last but not least in the series, this final sampler offers a third techno perspective and closes out what is an essential collection over all.

Ketev - Traces Of Weakness

Ketev

Traces Of Weakness

12inchWTNLP03
Where To Now?
13.01.2016

KETEV is the realm in which Berlin based sound artist Yair Elazar Glotman employs his unique ambient technoid soundscapes to explore the balance between darkness and light, fragility and strength, and tension and release. 'Traces of Weakness' follows up the solo contrabass LP 'Études' for Subtext records, and continues to expand on the themes explored on previous KETEV albums for Where To Now and Opal Tapes. 'Traces of Weakness' was recorded at EMS Stockholm using their Buchla Modular Synth, and processed with reel-to-reel tape manipulations including personal archived field recordings. The sleeve photography comes courtesy of Yair's father, the artist Yehoshua Shuka Glotman.

The album is divided into four long expressions, moving through a cycle of melancholy, destruction, urgency, fragility, and total calm. 'Traces of Weakness' opens with 'Probabilities of a stranger's eyes', hypnotising the listener into a state of mantra, where cyclical bass plumes slowly strut alongside what sounds like processed healing bowls and subtle modular tones. Closing on a segment of total reflective calm this opening gambit truly does set itself up as preparation for the descent.

The brooding ambience continues with the title track 'Traces of Weakness', opening with a Stars of The Lid esque panorama of ambience and beauty, throughout the piece the vibe becomes increasingly ominous and foreboding, feelings of fragility and space slowly evolve into a filmic atmosphere of oddly comforting tension and uncertainty - it is this changing of emotional states within sound where KETEV totally comes into his own - sharing similar motifs as artists such as Tim Hecker and Tomas Koner, but continuously injecting an array of very human and emotional responses into his scapes of evolving ambience.

'Linger' finds KETEV in full on rhythmic dread mode, where 12 minutes of churning techno mechanism forces the build of tonal dread into a new zone. 'Linger' showcases what KETEV does best - taking the stripped back, minimal pulse and building layer upon layer of sound and tension to create an ecstatic, all encompassing melee of rapture and release.

We end with 'Levels of Chaos' to complete the cycle, a true comedown from the heightened spirit of 'Linger'. Themes explored in the opening track return, but with new perspective and confidence, the scene has a newness to it but is totally destroyed, there is melodic hope that pierces the ambience, bringing to mind the darker moments of John Hassell's otherworldly compositions. KETEV often leaves the listener with a brutal and cold parting stare, and 'Traces of Weakness' is no different, another enthralling and escapist experience and essential addition to the Where To Now catalogue.

Synus0006 - B4ck6roundno1se Y01

"Background noise is a form of noise pollution or interference. Background noise is an important concept in setting noise regulations"

The fruit of B4CK6ROUNDNO1SE has ripened despite the fact the the tree is in a demotivating country without sunshine in a fucking closed garden. The tree has been sprayed by a lot of jealous and hostile arseholes but its roots are strong. Let this record and the whole self-made label motivation to all those, as well, always searching for excuses.

Thope, Nikola Gala - Dope Frequency

Debuting on Credo last year with his slamming "Firebox", which was one of the key tracks on the first "Leider Kein House..." compilation and furthermore licensed to Ben Sims and Kirk Digiorgio`s Machine-mixcompilation it was well overdue to have a full size EP by Thope on the label and here we go with some stompy cutted techno beside a raw, organic and slightly dirty bassline driven flood of electronic madness for the dancefloors. No doubt, these are dope frequencies!

Tronik Youth - Malice Of Absence

New label based in Madrid, run by Alvaro Cabana and his partner in crime Juliana Leyva, born to maximize synergies between different music scenes, breaking barriers to get to a common factor:quality music without pigeonholing.
Tronik Youth has made a name making re-edits as well as original and remixes on his own label Nein and on others like Gomma or Southern Fried. Red Axes and Richard Sen join in offering us their personal visions of "Malice of Absence", track that has been chosen to open the label.Guide by the force of synths, the original presents itself as an intense voyage to the depth of strobes and flash. While the Bass line snakes slowly towards the night, the vocal samples make the piece grow to levels closer to maximalism of Enter the Void as well as Balearic rhythms that circulate in the driving axis of the track. Red Axes accommodate us to a Balearic sunset governed by the melodies of Art of Noise, the horizontal flights of Vangelis and the spiritual calmness of Mr. Fingers.Richard Sen rises the speed gently and resolves the equation that the german cosmic exposition has deposited under a mirror ball of The Loft in a space with a life of its own.

Cassegrain - Blood Distributed As Pure Colour

Prologue presents three new tracks from the Berlin based Cassegrain. This new EP draws in the focus as we see the duo further finesse their sonic language of complex tribal percussion and intense acidic elements. In anticipation of Cassegrain's debut full-length due in autumn 2014, this next chapter of tracks - not taken from the LP, but acting as a sound manifesto of sorts - highlights their ongoing explorations. When you close your eyes and stare into nothingness, that private virtual space, what does your brain see Shimmering cells dancing in the void, clouds in your consciousness, the particle elements of a distant past - blood distributed as pure colour. Cassegrain invite us to spark a connection with the ancients lying dormant within. Across three intense tribal studies, exploring a fine potions of voodoo acids and hypnotic extra-sensory sonics, we are transported to places far and exotic. Up the winding rivers, into the jungle landscapes of our ancestors, where rhythm is sacred and blood is power.

Nhb / Giorgio Rusconi / Minico - Amazing V08

Support from: Speedy J, Axel karakasis, Slam, Marco Bailey, Secret Cinema, Pig & Dan, Monika Kruse, Click Box, Marco Carola, Filterheadz, Rino Cerrone, Umek, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Mr. Bizz, Luigi Madonna, Luciano, Someone Else, Florian Gasperinini, Joran Van Pol

For this very special VA project, Amazing Records showcases some prime techno artists in a 4 tracker that sees them all sharing the credits and taking on each other's music at the same time. Opening "The Notorious Beat" by London's finest NHB and Italy's bad boy Giorgio Rusconi is no surprise: its increasingly hot rhythm and the punchy beats are matched by dark atmospheres and huge uplifters. Claps and snares fill in like a slap on the face. MiniCooBoyz are on remix duties for this one: with their recent release on legendary Carl Cox' Intec Digital label sitting strongly at number 1 on Beatport Techno Chart, the duo keep the juice flowing here. Big drops and a steady heavy groove are what you might expect from their rework, coupled with a sinister vibe and a no holds barred attitude. The Boyz are also releasing an original composition along with NHB again under the name "Concrete": decidedly straightforward and uncompromising, its fierce drive and rude approach don't leave much to imagination. A stomping bass line and 4/4 heavy kick drums are the signature sounds of this bunch of producers, and their impressive studio skills leave no one disappointed. The remix comes courtesy of Mr.Bizz, who have been releasing on some of the most famous labels in the genre: their trademark loopy, low-frequencies overloaded style makes a welcome addition to this super exciting release.

Patrik Berg - Differently

After the launch of Jannowitz Records and its Madness Compilation release in the beginning of this year, the label impressively reports back with Patrik Berg's new track "Differently". It is a groovy Techno tune that will encourage the listeners to dance. The remixers that Jannowitz Records procured are not less impressive. None other than Mike Wall himself contributes a remix to the release that comes straight to the point. Another remix is being contributed by newcomer Florian Frings who enriches Richie Hawtin's label Minus. These tracks, each having their own style, make the release a truly special one.
