Der finnische Komponist Lauri Porra lädt dich auf eine Reise durch die "Seasons in Moominvalley" ein. Pünktlich zum 80-jährigen Jubiläum der Veröffentlichung der ersten Mumin-Geschichte von Tove Jansson, komponierte Porra 21 atmosphärische Stücke für Klavier, Streichensemble oder eine Kombination aus beidem (manchmal sogar mit Naturgeräuschen), die dich die Jahreszeiten, Strände und Wälder des Mumintals ganz neu erleben lassen.Jedes Stück bezieht sich auf eine bestimmte Szene aus den Büchern - zum Beispiel ist "A Song for the Sea" inspiriert von Muminpapa, der am Wasser steht und über die Launen des Meeres philosophiert, während "A Song for Winter" eine Szene aufgreift, in der ein Charakter erkennt, dass der Winter die Jahreszeit ist, in der schüchterne und zurückhaltende Tiere und Menschen aufblühen. Dieses Album ist eine liebevolle Hommage an Tove Janssons zeitlose Geschichten.Veröffentlicht von Sony Classical, ist "Seasons in Moominvalley" sowohl physisch als auch in digital erhältlich. During a month living with the Wampís in the Amazon Rainforest, Aboutface and the Wampís community collaboratively captured field recordings, music instrumentation and traditional Wampis Nampets – ancient songs sung from the perspective of animals living in their rainforest environment.

These recordings then informed 4 improvised performances to articulate the story of the 4 Nampet songs from within each animal's habitat, to depict nature and culture as inseparable, and to propose that humanity is not exclusive to humans but a multinaturalist characteristic available to all living organisms.

This is the first project of its kind in Wampís history and contains sound recordings of biodiversity that no longer exist due to deforestation.

Indigenous-managed Amazonian rainforests sequester around 340 million tonnes of CO₂ each year—equivalent to the UK’s annual fossil fuel emissions. In stark contrast, non-Indigenous-controlled forests have become sources of carbon emissions, therefore accelerating our global climate crises. Among the vital custodians of these precious ecosystems are the Wampís people, who protect 1.3 m ha of precious rainforest territory currently being decimated by mining for gold. This devastating practice is currently decimating Wampís territory, destroying their river habitats, leaving toxic methylmercury pollution that strips all biodiversity, contaminates the food chain, and causes widespread harm.

100% of all sales revenues from this release will directly go to the Wampís to protect their rainforest territory, to fund Wampís-led eco-initiatives against illegal mining, alongside ways to preserve Wampís cultural heritage– embedded in their songs, art and crafts, central to their conservation of their territory called The Iña Wampisti Nunke: A system of life that encompasses reciprocal relationships between humans, plants, animals, and spirits, central to the harmony of all its multi-dimensional ecology– which they term Tarimat Pujut.

Electronic musician and singer/songwriter originally from Greece, ELLI, has called London home for the past 15 years, balancing her career as an automotive engineer with her passion for creating music. After collaborating
with several producers as a vocalist, she released music on renowned labels like Connected, Anjunadeep,Objektivity, and Truesoul. In addition to her successful collaborations, ELLI's solo journey began with her debut
single "Race My Heartbeat" on Prins Thomas’s Horisontal Mambo label.

She followed up with "Just for Me & You", released as part of Steven Julien's DJ Kicks mix on iconic !K7 Records.
Channelling a broad range of influences, her solo project explores the intersection between ambient/electronic ethereal soundscapes and a more upbeat side that leans towards cosmic synth-pop.

AUSTERE bleiben im selbstgesteckten Rahmen der reiferen und definierten Version ihres besonderen depressiven Black Metal Stils, der ihre Erfahrung und künstlerische Entwicklung widerspiegelt. AUSTERE entstanden aus einem Soloprojekt des Multi-Instrumentalisten und Sängers Desolate alias Mitchell Keepin, der sich im Jahr 2005 mit dem Schlagzeuger, Keyboarder und Sänger Sorrow aka Tim Yatras zusammenschloss. Mit frostigen Gitarren, spitzen Schreien und Wehklagen als Markenzeichen offenbarte AUSTEREs Debütalbum "Withering Illusions and Desolation" (2007) noch einen starken nordischen Einfluss. Das Zweitwerk "To Lay like Old Ashes" folgte im Jahr 2009 ebenfalls mit einem rohen Sound, überzeugte aber auch durch eine verfeinerte Produktion. Danach konzentrierten sich beide Musiker auf andere Projekte und AUSTERE ging in den Winterschlaf. Erst im Jahr 2021 fand das Duo erneut zusammen. Die Zahl der Anhänger war in den Jahren ihrer Abwesenheit dennoch rein durch Mundpropaganda stark angewachsen. AUSTERE sind zurück und tragen auf "The Stillness of Dissolution" schwarze Trauer. Doch darunter kleiden sich die Australier auch in all die subtilen Grautöne, die aus der kontinuierlichen Entwicklung ihrer Musik gewebt wurden, und aus dunkler Materie spannende neue Klangräume erschaffen.

Die 1992 in London von Sänger und Songschreiber David Christian gegründete Band Comet Gain war ursprünglich inspiriert von den frühen Creation Records, Television Personalities und der Mod-Kultur. Comet Gain schöpften aus denselben Idealen wie Dexys, The Style Council oder Vic Godard und aus Traditionen wie der von The Velvet Underground, The Byrds und den 13th Floor Elevators. In den darauffolgenden Jahren veröffentlichte die Gruppe acht Alben auf so angesehenen Labels wie Wiiija, Kill Rock Stars, What"s Your Rupture und Fortuna POP!. In diesen Veröffentlichungen vermischten sich französischer New Wave mit englischem Arbeiterherz, Riot Grrrl mit Acid Punk und Twee Pop mit Post-Punk und Northern Soul. Comet Gain überdauerten ihre Zeitgenossen und inspirierten eine neue Generation von DIY-Bands. Auf dieser Platte, Comet Gains zweitem regulären Album bei Tapete Records, hören wir David Christian (Stimme, Gitarre), Ben Philipson (Gitarre), Rachel Evans (Gesang), Robin Christian (Schlagzeug), Anne Laure Guillain (Keyboards) und Clientele-Bassist James Hornsey, mit zusätzlichen Gesangs-, Bläser- und Keyboard-Beiträgen von Produzent Sean Read (Dexys, Edwyn Collins, Rockingbirds).

Carrying on from recent archival releases from masters of Indian classical tradition such as Kamalesh Maitra and the Dagar Brothers, Black Truffle is pleased to present a previously unheard recording of a concert by Pakistani vocalist Salamat Ali Khan. Born to a musician family in Hoshiarpur in the northwestern state of Punjab, Khan moved with his family to Lahore in Pakistan after the 1947 partition of India, becoming a child musical prodigy. Khan was a master of the kyhal form of Hindustani classical vocal music, a style integrating influences from Middle Eastern musical traditions that gives the singer a great deal of improvisational freedom. Travelling widely across the globe from the 1960s until his death in 2001, Khan approached ragas performed in the kyhal style as expressive forums for risk-taking improvisation, enlivened by ceaseless ornamental invention.

This remarkable recording was captured by Michael Hönig (of krautrock legends Agitation Free) in concert at Berlin’s Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the MetaMusik festival in 1974 (which also featured Nico, Tangerine Dream, and Roberto Laneri’s Prima Materia, among many others). Khan, who is also heard accompanying himself on a specially tuned alpine zither (in place of the traditional swarmandal, an Indian style of zither), is joined by Shaukat Hussein Khan on tabla and Hussein Bux Khan on harmonium. The lack of a familiar underlying tanpura drone gives this performance a weightless, floating quality, with all three of the musicians playing masterfully with the interaction between silence and the pulse propelling each section of the raag.

As Khan explains in his opening remarks, this performance of the rainy season Raag Megh is divided into three parts, each with its own tempo and rhythmic scheme (tala). The opening vilambit, in a twelve-beat tala, stretches out for over twenty minutes, lingering for a long time in a space of meditative calm, Khan lightly strumming the zither while exploring the lower end of his range in languorously extended notes. Virtuoso tabla interjections at first barely state the tempo, and the interplay between musicians is so spacious that we hear scraps of audience noise and the squeak of the harmonium’s mechanism in between the notes. Gradually picking up rhythmic definition and melodic complexity, after around fifteen minutes the music builds dramatically, with Khan letting out emotive yelps and swooping scalar shapes ranging across his full vocal range. This flows seamlessly into the following jhaptal, at a faster tempo in ten beats, which then makes way for the concluding teental, very fast in sixteen beats, which becomes a frantic improvisational exchange of daring rhythmic disruptions from the tabla, flowing harmonium melodies, and a stunning variety of vocal approaches from Khan, ranging from rapid-fire staccato consonants to guttural growls.

Accompanied by stunning black and white concert photographs, the LP also contains a moving and entertaining recollection from acclaimed German musicologist Peter Pannke, looking back on his experience assisting Khan and his musicians in Berlin at the Metamusik festival (including a mouth-watering description of a feast cooked by the maestro himself). As Pannke describes in his account of attending the concert, the beauty and spiritual intensity of this music leaves the listener speechless.

Ursprünglich 2001 auf dem angesehenen japanischen Punk-Label H.G. Fact veröffentlicht, erschien "All the Footprints You've Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead" in Amerika 2003 in Lizenz für eine limitierte Veröffentlichung auf Dim Mak Records. Die Originalpressung war fast sofort ausverkauft und das Album erzielte auf eBay und Discogs zunehmend obszöne Preise. Temporary Residence brachte 2008 den Backkatalog von envy neu heraus, was ein noch größeres und breiteres Interesse an der Band weckte. Das Herzstück dieses historischen Backkatalogs ist "All the Footprints You've Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead", das weithin als innovativer Höhepunkt des Hardcores gilt. Zusammen mit dem Nachfolgealbum "A Dead Sinking Story" wird es zu Recht als unverzichtbarer Post-Hardcore-Klassiker angesehen, dessen monumentale Fußstapfen unendliche Wellen schlugen. Am 6. Juni veröffentlichen Lifeguard aus Chicago ihr Debütalbum "Ripped and Torn" auf Matador Records. Das junge Trio, bestehend aus Asher Case (Bass, Baritongitarre, Gesang), Isaac Lowenstein (Schlagzeug, Synthesizer) und Kai Slater (Gitarre, Gesang), macht seit seiner Highschool-Zeit zusammen Musik, also fast ein Viertel ihres Lebens. Laut und direkt, kryptisch, aber mit Herz, lassen sie sich in ihren Songs von Punk, Dub, Power-Pop und experimentellen Klängen inspirieren und bringen alles in einem explosiven Sound of Now zusammen Das Album, das letztes Jahr in Chicago mit dem Produzenten Randy Randall (No Age) aufgenommen wurde, fängt eine klaustrophobische Verschrobenheit ein, die das Gefühl und die Energie von Hauspartys und dicht gedrängten Räumen heraufbeschwört, wo die Ohren leicht überwältigt werden und zerlumpte Improvisationen sich mit der gleichen Kraft verbinden wie melodische Hooks. Schon beim 2023er SWSW gehörte die Band zu den absoluten Geheimtipps und überzeugte mit ihren mitreißenden Live-Shows, von denen man sich letztes Jahr auch hierzulande ein Bild machen konnte. Im Zuge der Album-Veröffentlichung kehrt die Band für zwei Shows nach Deutschland zurück und spielt am Release-Tag in Berlin! Lifeguard gehören zur Speerspitze neuer Bands, deren kreativer Schmelztiegel sich in und um Chicago herum befindet und jüngst auch die Band Horsegirl hervorbrachte. Die Szene besteht aus Musikern, Fanzine-Machern und Konzertveranstaltern und ist inspiriert von der DIY-Indie-Bewegung der 90er.

Es hat sich angedeutet, seit vor ein paar Tagen große Billboards in L.A. aufgetaucht sind, jetzt ist es amtlich: TURNSTILE sind zurück! Am 6. Juni erscheint NEVER ENOUGH, das sehnlich erwartete neue Album der Band und ihr erstes seit vier Jahren.

Aufgenommen zwischen Los Angeles und dem heimischen Baltimore wurde, wurde NEVER ENOUGH von TURNSTILE-Frontmann Brendan Yates produziert. Das Ergebnis: ein wuchtiges, ruheloses Album, das den unverwechselbaren, genreübergreifenden Sound der Band weiterdenkt – energiegeladen, unerschrocken und voller Leben. Thy Burdens is a natural evolution of the Drunken Prayer catalog. The album is an homage to the fiery, sublime music of the church that means so much to the musicians who worked on it. Musically it's hard country-soul with horns, shouting and a lot of groove. The songs vary between the evergreen and the obscure. Represented here are tributes across the landscape: Thomas Dorsey, Martha Carson, Snooks Eaglin, Ralph Stanley, The Zion Travellers, Leon Payne, The Dixie Hummingbirds, Hank Williams, Odetta, Dylan, and traditionals that are too old to credit. The project was spearheaded by Drive-By Truckers' bassist Bobby Matt Patton who cut his teeth playing in fiery Pentecostal church bands around north Alabama, and Morgan Geer (Drunken Prayer) who learned a lot of the hymns they recorded from his great grandmother and father in Mobile, AL. This all started when Bobby Matt met Morgan at a shared gig in Chapel Hill, NC, where they found themselves instant friends and kindred spirits. After talking for a while the idea for this album was born. The inspiration, other than purely rocking the hell out, was a pull to get to the core values of the old songs. The incontrovertibly true and inconceivably vast principles of kindness, right and wrong, and social justice: Cosmic Gospel. Morgan started using the moniker "Drunken Prayer" after a chance conversation with Tom Waits on the importance of gospel music, regardless of religious beliefs. There are a handful of Drunken Prayer albums, all with semi-religious overtones and imagery, but this one is the first that's all gospel - a prophecy revealed. Thy Burdens was recorded at Dial Back Sound, Patton's studio in Water Valley, MS. There may be some ghosts but there's nothing haunted about this music. It's a joyful noise

OVERVIEW: DUB TREES is one of Youth’s most revered dub projects, it helped define the Liquid Sound Design sound that fans around the world hold dear. This project is the third in a triptych of albums Youth has made with a specific Celtic / Hindu fusion. Starting out with the classic Celtic Cross ‘Hicksville’ 20 years ago, featuring the mythical Simon Posford (Shpongle) through to ‘East of the River Ganges’ (ft Klaus Shultz / Tangerine Dream amongst many others) in 2004 followed by the last piece of this mystical puzzle ‘Celtic Vedic’ ,released on compact disc only in 2016 , which charts the journey of the Celt from Northern India to Snowdonia. The idea stems from Youth’s firm belief that there is a strong correlation between Celtic and Vedic cultures and their Northern Indian roots. Youth has assembled a host of collaborators to weave their labrynthine magic on ‘Celtic Vedic’: Jah Wobble (PiL) on bass, Matt Black/Coldcut (Ninja Tunes) on warped soundscaping duties, Galician Celtic pipe and flute player Daniel Romar, Bollywood contemporary Indian singer Shridevi Keshavan and Elfic Circle. It features many field recordings made by Youth on his various Indian odysseys and is all harnessed together with cutting-edge electronica that the Liquid Sound Design team pioneered 20 years ago. The team today are still pioneering new directions within ‘Downtempo Electronica Music’ and beats that create 3 dimensional landscapes for the helioscopic imagination to explore and psychoactive maps for the inner astronaut in all of us. ‘Celtic Vedic’ promises unchartered bass annihilation and heliotropic soundscapes, pounding basslines overlayed on 3D holographic beats and wrestles with serpentine melodies and psychedelic textures.

Behind the pseudonym INVIGO lies Venceslas Catz. In 2016, he caught the attention of Les Inrocks with his electro-pop single "Gravity," then in 2018, he conquered the Parisian public with his track "LAtely." He then performed in several Parisian venues for a few concerts (Silencio, Glazart, etc.).



Since 2019, he has composed for film, television, and advertising. In September 2020, he launched his neo-classical project, under his name Venceslas Catz, blending classical and electro influences. A new signing to Partyfine, INVIGO returns with a debut album with Latin sounds on May 16, 2025. INVIGO works in his Paris studio, where he composes and records his projects.

Félicité Thösz is the eleventh studio album by French band Magma, and was originally released on the 3th of July 2012.

The album was Magma’s first studio release in 27 years to contain new material written after the band’s reformation in 1996.

“Félicité Thösz” was written during 2001-02 by Christian Vander, but only played live by the band from 2009. “Les hommes sont venus”

was written and performed in 1992 by Les Voix De Magma, and again in 1995 for the band’s 25th anniversary, then called “Tous Ensemble”.

Félicité Thösz is sung almost entirely in Magma’s constructed language Kobaïan, apart from a passage in

French named “Seule une fleur est venue au fond des bois en mon cœur (âme)”.

Yowzers is a new album by Chicago composer, improvisor, and musical folklorist Ben LaMar Gay. Acclaimed director and musician Jim Jarmusch and experimental lute player and composer Jozef van Wissem met nearly 20 years ago, forming a close bond after they ran into each other on the streets of New York City. In 2011, they began performing and producing records together. The follow up to “American Landscapes “ entitled “ The Day The Angels Cried” releases June 6 and coincides with a world tour. The duo weaves an intricate Lute and guitar string tapestry of droning, minimal free-folk compositions destined to captivate listeners with their dark hypnosis. This time vocals and electronics are added as well. Van Wissem’s work comes from a tradition of avant-garde minimalism and lends itself well to the director’s stark cinematic works. Jarmusch has played guitar in bands on and off since the late ‘70s. Van Wissem’s compositional style involves hypnotic circular musical phrases that allow for a lot of contemplative space between the notes. Their first live performance was in Issue Project Room in Brooklyn in October 2011, where they appeared together for a Van Wissem curated concert program called “New Music for Early Instruments.” The idea for their first album, Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity (Important Records) developed from their live performance. Jarmusch has said that he considers these songs as Van Wissem’s compositions, and sees himself as someone filling in the background to Jozef ’s foreground, like the “scenic” on a film shoot, the one who paints the backdrops. “The sound of the lute is as bright as the sun, a beautiful red color and my stuff sounds sort of like the moon, more like blue, like mercury.” .According to Van Wissem: We started with layers of instrumental parts.. Jim recorded a otherworldly Passerelle bridge guitar part to which we added vocals. This became the title track " The Day The Angels Cried" The lyrics for this song came to me during a vision I had in a dream. It was much like a vision Swedenborg writes about. In it he converses with angels. In my vision the angel looked down from the heavens upon the earth engulfed in flames. Trotzdem ist der schweißtreibende Indie Funk-Rock besonders der ersten paar Tracks auf 'California Salzburg' keineswegs doppelbödig, sie sind ernsthaft bei der Sache, nehmen sich dabei aber selbst mit ihrer unberechenbaren Mischung aus Indie Rock, Funk, Dada Pop und was immer ihnen im Proberaum gerade in den Sinn gekommen ist nicht zu ernst. Wie es sich für kalifornische Verhältnisse gehört gibt's dann noch ein paar Skateboard-Referenzen, bis man schließlich mit Skating to the ocean (Exit) dem Pazifik oder auch nur dem Fuschlsee entgegenbrettert.

The Sexy Drugs bezeichnen ihre Musik augenzwinkernd als "Hard Nipple Power Pop". Damit wollen sie unterstreichen, dass sie ihren punkigen Rock gerne mit Popmelodien würzen. Ihre bewegte Geschichte begann bereits Anfang 2001 im Fillmore in Kaiserslautern. Nach einigen Besetzungswechseln und drei Studioalben unterschrieb die Band Ende 2024 bei Barhill Records. Dort erscheint "Reckless Memories", das erste The Sexy Drugs-Album, das als Quartett entstanden ist. Mit diesem konnten sie auch erstmals ihre Live-Energie einfangen und auf ein Album bannen. "Reckless Memories" ist ein Album über verpasste Chancen, alte Gefühle und neue Schwierigkeiten und Probleme. Es handelt von all diesen Hochs und Tiefs in unserem Leben. Es ging den vier Musikern darum, als Band zu wachsen, obwohl zeitgleich die Welt zu kollabieren scheint. Eskapismus als letzte Chance. Oder anders gesagt: Rock'n'roll ist die Antwort. Violent Delights is an anthology of stories that meanders through themes of grief, rage, desire and identity. There are stories of the toxicity of addiction, and growing up around religion; stories of overwhelming obsession, isolating abandonment, and empowering anthems of identity, and stark laments about sexual violence. They are each lived experiences, laid bare, reclaimed with every syllable whether dripping in spite or swagger, anger or anxiety. "Loss is a central theme of the album," explains vocalist Kate Price. "For us, we have our own specific version of what that is in these songs, but for anyone listening, it could be the loss of something else - a loved one, a relationship. But we're never mourning loss. We're celebrating it. Loss is almost universally looked at as a negative, but we're finding the positives in those moments. We had to go through hell to get to heaven. Violent Delights is about looking back with gratitude, and even fondness, the closing of one chapter and beginning of another." Jools - comprised of Kate Price, Mitch Gordon, Chris Johnston and Callum Connachie, Joe Dodd, and Chelsea Wrones - has been a name on the lips of clued-up fans and tastemakers since its collective of musicians found each other in the earliest days of 2023. Quickly gaining a reputation for their cathartic, unpredictable and specular live performances, the band have been consistently championed by BBC Radio One, including two `Tune of the Week' placements on Daniel P Carter's esteemed Rock Show. Violent Delights was recorded across two week-long stints at Southampton's The Ranch studio in August and December of 2024, with Lewis Johns helming production and mixing duties. When pressed, Jools may identify as a punk band - in its truest sense that punk is a mentality, rather than a sound - but Violent Delights equally lends from the worlds of metal, rap, post-hardcore and hip-hop as much as it does the post-punk of its surface layer. Gordon and Price are as likely to point to Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy and Amyl & The Sniffers as influences on the record as they are to Little Simz and The Streets' Mike Skinner. "We don't necessarily look at music in sounds or structures," nods Gordon. "Instead we look for attitudes."

U.K. progressive post-rock supergroup Crippled Black Phoenix is a musical collective that has featured nearly 30 members in it's rotating roster. The constant driving force is multi- instrumentalist Justin Greaves (Electric Wizard, Iron Monkey Se Delan), who formed the band in 2004 with Mogwai bassist Dominic Aitchison. Creating what they describe as "endtime ballads" to signify both the slightly macabre nature of their songs & the unusual blend of styles as the final evolution in music. The band have made live shows a focus by performing in unusual venues across the world as well as using Victorian-era instruments in tandem with more modern instruments, often involving more than a dozen members onstage. In 2006, Crippled Black Phoenix released their first album, 'A Love Of Shared Disasters', followed in 2009 by 'The Resurrectionists' & 'Night Raider', but it was their fourth album released in 2010 on Invada Records - 'I, Vigilante' - an album of uncompromising soundscapes that garnered the band & album widespread critical acclaim within the media worldwide. On 'I, Vigilante', CBP create songs that feel both sky-crackingly epic & intimate at the same time. "We Forgotten Who We Are" is an 11 minute thundering storm which powers through sections of head-nodding chugging guitars to a sunrise of happy melody & back, "Fantastic Justice" is a staggering display of songwriting, with twists & turns that make the band sound like a mini orchestra - horns, strings, crashes & swoons with Greaves the dark conductor. The spoken-word opening to "Bastogne Blues" is perfectly evocative for a genuinely troubled song, CBP's command of bleakness is at it's strongest here; cinematic doesn't come close to describing the song's emotional resonance. When 'I, Vigilante' threatens to disintegrate into a black hole of misery, a faithfully screaming version of Journey's "Of A Lifetime" shows a sense of humour & some sweet guitar tones. aron! studierte Jazzgesang und Komposition für Film. 65 years ago, on October 17th, 1959, Cliff Richard and The Shadows hit the No. 1 spot in the UK with ‘Travellin’ Light’. This was the first single credited to Cliff Richard and The Shadows – re-named from their original title - The Drifters.
This notable anniversary will be marked with a brand-new collection which focuses, for the first time, solely on Cliff’s output with The Shadows (or The Drifters for pre-October ’59 releases). All their classic hits are included going right the way up to their 2009 reunion; making it the most comprehensive Cliff Richard & Shadows collection to date.

The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace was commissioned by the Royal Armouries to mark the transition from one millennium to another. It reflects on the passing of ‘the most war-torn and destructive century in human history’ and looks forward in hope to a more peaceful future. The Armed Man is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict, whose tragedy was unfolding as it was being composed. It was first performed in 2000 by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, conducted by Jenkins himself. The 25th anniversary edition includes a cover redesign; a history of the commission by Guy Wilson, Master of the Armouries; updated biographies for contributors; and new notes from Julian Lloyd Webber reflecting on the debut performance, plus a note from Sir Karl himself.

Anti Fade and Agitated Records are teaming together to bring you a paint stripping, mind altering, rare collection of EP and compilation tracks recorded in various Australian bedrooms and garages between 2017 and 2022. The sound of goofy obnoxiousness will soon be permeating your bedroom airwaves and perforating your eardrums. Kicking off this long player is an EP that was recorded by Billy from Anti Fade in his childhood bedroom in July 2017. The songs came to fruition while AUSMUTEANTS were on tour in Japan 2016.

There was a lot of ‘WALLABY BEAT’ / ‘MURDER PUNK’ being played in the background while seeing the sites of Mount Fuji and ‘Bar Fuck Yeah’. In between shows Jake was organising the release of DANNY GRAHAM and PLASTIC AND THE EP’S records on the label he co-ran XEROX MUSIC. Both artists played parts in the sound and ethos of the PANEL BEAT EP. The goal was to make the songs sound unapologetically Australian without pretending to be something they’re not. There’s no fake accents or songs about VB and mullets. Instead, there’s songs about every day struggles, like dealing with fickle fashion followers, having too many fucking records, playing PlayStation, resentment and manipulation.

500 copies were pressed and self released, with a photo slipped inside each copy at random. Next is THE DEATH OF THE VINYL BOOM which was self recorded in a shed in November 2017. This is the only Alien Nosejob release (besides this comp, smartarse) to feature a cover - Flyblown by Adelaidean arty weirdo band JACKSON ZUMDISH. The idea behind this EP was to incorporate the simplicity and scrappiness of the late 70’s DIY Australian sound, but give them the complicated structures of prog songs. Scum stats - 500 copies, self released. Several copies were smeared with Jake’s blood and had smashed pieces of vinyl glued to the front cover.

Now we have a cover of the DEAD KENNEDYS. The conspiracy theorist wet dream Government Flu. Recorded September 2020 during lockdown in one-man-band with a tape recorder fashion for a 20 minute unedited ‘live set’ video where all instruments were played one by one, sung and mixed in the space of a couple of hours. The HC45 7” was recorded at the same time as a disco 12” maxi, which I hear were originally meant to come out on the same day. Shit happens I guess? This EP came out in Feb 2020 and sounds somewhere between early GANG GREEN, DIE KREUZEN and the BEASTIE BOYS old bullshit. Self recorded on a 4 track with a broken pinch roller. Lyrically this thing is cynical and choc-a-bloc full of satire and hate. A year later a sequel was recorded the same way, on the same machine.

No fucking disco this time though. Cold Bare Facts is the most recent recording on this comp. Self recorded in Jake‘s bedroom 2022 It has the same mid paced tempo as DYS or SSD when they’re at their slowest (pre-Boston Curse, of course!). Both songs take a stinky shit on the Australian state police. 300 copies. Finishing the record is a cover by THE AINTS. Originally written by ED KUEPPER for THE SAINTS Eternally Yours album, but it sounded too similar to Lost and Found. Originally released on ‘ALTA’ cassette compilation during the lockdown. Charlotte de Witte’s unrelenting single ‘No Division’ featuring XSALT drops digitally on May 29th while she plays six NYC shows in four days (vinyl on 6th June) – with different DJ sets across venues from small and intimate to big and uncompromising. The vinyl version (including the Original Mix and Instrumental Mix as a B-side) gets an early release and will be on sale at the shows.

Why the NYC connection? Says de Witte: ‘Launching this single while I’m in New York feels symbolic. There’s something about the city, its chaos, its diversity, its constant movement, that perfectly mirrors the spirit of ‘No Division’. It’s a place where differences collide and coexist.’

‘No Division’ is the second single from Charlotte’s eponymous long-awaited debut album (out November 7th). ‘This track is another chapter of my upcoming album, and like the others, it reflects a part of who I am. ‘No Division’ is both a call and a celebration. It’s a reminder of what’s possible when we lose ourselves in the music and come together on the same frequency. It reminds us that we are one.’

James Holvay is a key figure in the world of Chicago soul, whose songwriting helped shape the sound of the '60s alongside icons like Curtis Mayfield. I must admit to being a sucker for two-guitar bands. Ok, Hendrix pulled off a trio. But I don’t care what anybody says: The Yardbirds were a better band than anything that came out of them (Ok, maybe not Zep. But Cream?).

Maybe the reason I go back so far in my references is that, within the two-guitar band format, original new roles are difficult and rare. There’s the classic (socially problematic and often boring) “rhythm/lead” solution. There’s the JB’s or Nile Rodgers’ chicken pickin’ vs comping solution (which avoids chordal clashes by relegating one of the guitars to the role of single-note percussion instrument). There’s Ornette’s Prime Time division between Bern Nix’s rolled-off “jazz” tone and Charles Ellerbee’s trebly wah. Almost everything else is a variation on one of these.


In Ches Smith’s record Clone Row, each piece is built around a different concept for guitar interaction. The delightful and gifted weirdness of Mary Halvorson’s playing is counterpointed, contrasted, unisoned with, played off, juxtaposed (that is to say, enters every relationship possible) with Liberty Ellman’s equally amazing sound palette, chops, and imagination. This definitely ain’t your father’s guitar band.
The overall vibe of the record—despite Halvorson’s occasional noise outbursts or Ellman’s distorted guitar lines (see Mixed Fridge) is neither punk/funk, nor Zorn-ish metal—and certainly not the looser parameters of Ornette’s improvised harmolodics. Smith’s vibraphone playing, Halvorson’s guitar tone (whammy pedal squiggles aside), the brilliant electronics, and (most of all) the compositions themselves are somehow strangely West Coast cool. It’s as if I’m hearing a Jim Hall concert in which one of us did a lot of mushrooms, or (dare I write this?) some post-punk post-Dave Brubeck post-trip-hop experiment with classical form.

This recording is, most of all, about Ches as composer. He’s picked up a lot on his long, strange trip of the last few decades. The Haitian funkiness of his work with We All Break is audible—but deeply buried, encoded in the polyrhythms (check out Heart Breakthrough). His long-running side musician collaborations with John Zorn and Tim Berne are also evident but sublimated here into something new.

Not that improvising is absent. Check out the compelling collective statements in Sustained Nightmare and Ready Beat. Check out the brilliant interplay and bass soloing on Abrade With Me (a Weather Report for the age of extreme weather?) Nick Dunston is my favorite bassist of the new generation, and he plays brilliantly throughout. And Ches’ drumming here has all the groove, energy, and incredible range that have kept him in demand from Saturday night Vodou services to jazz and new music recording sessions (…the thinking man’s rock barbarian?).
The sus chords in Abrade With Me do build, for a moment, towards a fusion type of climax...but just at the moment I was gritting my teeth in anticipated defense against some horrible synth solo, the drums drop out, and we’re transported to the ambient lounge at the rave, and we suddenly understand we’re in the hands of a composer with the power to transport us just about anywhere.
So, this is a composer’s record most of all; a composer’s record performed by musicians who happen to be great improvisers. Ches Smith builds here on his reputation as a gifted new voice with an important vision, while showcasing some of the most creative musicians of our time.

Dez Dare launches into 2025 with his 5th album, ‘CHERYL! Your Love Shines Down Like A Supernova's Death'. Blending his unique mix of existential wordplay and experimental riffage to create an album that is at arms with itself while cohesive; cheeky and upbeat, simultaneously breaking our hearts. How often do we think about what we miss when we are distracted by shiny things? While fencing with social media, long winded stories, dreams of other lives, unnecessary toys, and irrelevant social experiments with happiness, we miss the things that make up our world. This album looks at those morsels of time and the bits that fill them, soaking existence… as well as manspreaders. Those people should be added to the 7th circle of hell… or suburbia. Either is probably a similar commute!
Dez Dare (AKA Darren Smallman of labels God Unknown, BATTLE WORLDWIDE, Low Transit Industries, and bands Thee Vinyl Creatures, The Sound Platform, Warped) grew up in Geelong, Australia, where he became involved in the local punk and rock scene in 1990. Sharing stages with the likes of 5678s, Cosmic Psychos, Fugazi, The Dirty Three and the Hard-ons, before shifting his focus to running record labels. In the 2020s we see Dez Dare take form in a spare room in Brighton, UK, where Dez starts building his own studio and producing music and videos that have been described as "sounds like MONSTER MAGNET and DEVO caught in a drug bust… highly unique and highly recommended" by MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL Nick Odorizzi to The Wire’s Edwin Pouncey "dynamically armed with a ten-pronged set of lyrical barbs and musical hooks that, once heard, sink deep and hold fast" to Crossfire Metal "minimalistic, electronic psychedelic hippie poop that is only bearable with a hell of a lot of acid, angel dust and LSD". On this album Dez was joined by Laura Loriga on backing vocals and Jonny Halifax on backing vocals and lap steel, expanding on the sound of previous records and adding a new dimension to his trademark weird-n-roll.

Best known for being the front - man of legendary US Hard Rock band ANGEL, Frank Dimino is now leading his own solo project and debuts with a fine Melodic Hard Rock album aptly titled Old Habits Die Hard. ANGEL is a band that was discovered (similarly to VAN HALEN) by KISS bass player Gene Simmons, who got them signed to Casablanca Records. With that label ANGEL released 5 critically acclaimed studio and one live album in the second half of the 70’s. After the band’s demise, Dimino went on to work with UFO’s Paul Raymond and worked as singer for Soundtracks, scoring a Platinum
album for the inclusion of his Cycle V song “Seduce Me Tonight” on the “Flashdance” soundtrack. While Frank is undoubtedly the brainchild of DIMINO, the new album sees him collaborate with some heavyweights of the Vegas music scene, which is where he currently resides. Under the production of Paul Crook (MEAT LOAF), DIMINO sees the participation – among others – of Oz Fox (STRYPER), Eddie Ojeda (TWISTED SISTER), Rickey Medlocke(BLACKFOOT, LYNYRD SKYNYRD), Jeff Labansky (ARMORED SAINT), and former ANGEL bandmates Punky Meadows(on guitar) and Barry Brandt (co-writing with Frank the song” Even Now”). Old Habits Die Hard has reached its 10th Anniversary and is being re- issued with the bonus acoustic track “Even Now”
