Mtd - Random Thoughts Ep (rmx Myk De

Limited to 300 copies.

It's been a while since we've heard a jam as bruising as Nonsense. Titles in techno often don't tell you much, and we'd go as far as to say this badboy is really more no-nonsense. This one will blow the stack, with cavernous kicks, down-the-line 909 claps and hats, and good old fashioned warehouse bells. Decision is a jackin factory floor jam. Spitting percussion that's reverbed to the roof, combines with a one-note synth and pacy high-end work for a full-on strobe light track. Myk Derill goes DIY on his re-work of Nonsense, bringing more detailed rhythm work and creating a dynamic jam that ebbs and flows, constantly moving in and out of focus. Polishing off this belting release is Imprinted - an atmospheric sci-fi rhythm reminiscent of Convexion or even Monolake - a very nice little surprise on an otherwise heads-down release.

Shlomi Aber returns to Ovum with 'Slack Tide". It has been three years since Shlomi Aber's acclaimed album Chicago Days/Detroit Nights was release on Ovum. It was followed by an incredible remix package in 2011. He returns to Ovum in fine form with the 'Slack Tide' EP. Shlomi has stayed busy the past two years focusing on releases for his own Be As One imprint as well as big releases on Desolat and Cadenza Lab. He returns to Ovum coming off strength after strength with his releases. For his Ovum return Shlomi has come back with a bang. The title track 'Slack Tide' is a rolling ball of energy. The track ebbs and flows delivering builds that should drive the dance-floor crazy. For the B side, Shlomi returns to his techno roots with 'Warehouse". You can seen this being played in a dark sweaty warehouse space and driving the crowd insane. Both tracks will rock any crowd and show Shlomi's diversity. Welcome back!

Tapirus - Trying To Make Something Of Life

Once upon a time...in the midst of masked identities, artist pseudonyms and the like, Midnight Shift introduces a creature not even of human form.

Tapirus conjures music reflecting the duality of his soul. On one hand, rough and acidic to tell of the terrain of his past. And on the other, pure ethereal sounds borne of another place. This EP, showcasing 3 songs of the Tapirus alongside a remix by label artist Basic Soul Unit, is just the introduction to his tale.

The wiggly 'Acid Love Story' enters the room with its tight drum programming and infectious bassline commanding attention. A voice speaks of a love lost: 'She left...she left. Dark time ahead. Dark times in my head.' But perhaps the story is not yet over.

'Trying to Make Something of Life' continues the monologue, conveying an acidic almost bitter experience. Freaked out and haunting, this track is literally inspired by the dead. It lays as atribute to losing yet another close companion in life.

On the flipside, 'To Live in the Hearts...' and its remix comes through. Ascending the scales of life, its Asianic influence and soaring chords take one beyond the clouds. Basic Soul Unit's transforms the track helter-skelter, a frantic pace turning the peaceful tune into beautiful art of war.

Betty Ford Boys - Leaders Of The Brew School

We call them the rat pack of our beat scene. With all diversity in sound, the three producers are unified in their love for dope beats and high-proof drinks, both catered and consumed with style and expertise.

Suff Daddy, the globetrotting gin connoisseur and minimoog player with domiciles in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Sydney. He has released three solo albums and has worked with artists like Miles Bonny, Fleur Earth, Ta-ku and Elzhi. After a one year stint in Sydney, he returned to Berlin this spring.

Brenk Sinatra, the Wien-Kaisermühlen homeboy, Westcoast rap fanatic and producer of the forthcoming MC Eiht album. Last year Brenk released the critically acclaimed S3 album together with US singer Miles Bonny and has laced beats for an armada of MCs from both sides of the Atlantic.

And last but not least Dexter, the Stuttgart based trip maker and platinum producer with a day job as a pediatrician. This June Dexter released his second solo-album 'The Trip' a homage to the psychedelic rock era and one of the most innovative and genre bending hip-hop albums of 2013.

All three first met at the Hi-Hat Club, the producer series that we started a couple of years ago with the goal to push and celebrate the art of beat making. With their respective volumes 'Suff Draft' (Suff Daddy), 'The Jazz Files' (Dexter) and 'Chop Shop' (Brenk Sinatra) each of the guys put the instrumental hip-hop thing on a new and different level. None of their beats need a MC to be complete, they are full songs in their own right.

The official birth date of the Betty Ford Boys was the 2012 Beat BBQ in Cologne where Dexter, Suff and Brenk performed together for the first time. Right after the now legendary gig, that was ended by police forces Suff Daddy left for Sydney so that most the recordings for the Betty Ford Boys debut album took place in the cloud. Right after his return to Berlin, the Boys jumped on the bus and played their first club tour which finished with a gig at the Splash Festival.

On August 30th, the Betty Ford Boys release their first album 'Leaders Of The Brew School' on Melting Pot Music. The record combines the best of three worlds and has a surprisingly chilled Westcoast vibe. It's perfect summer music, it's edgy and relaxed at the same time and keeps you thirsty for more ....

Deep'a & Biri, Gene - Redshift, Argy Remix

It's only early July, but 2013 has already proven to be a landmark year for production/DJ duo Deep'a & Biri. With a couple of their tracks being released on Transmat Records and appearing on Derrick May's mix compilations on the one hand, while on the other, getting signed to DJ Hell's International DJ Gigolo Records, where they released a single in April and have a full album forthcoming mid-September - it seems that all corners of the techno diaspora are ready to catch up on their sound. But it doesn't stop there, as they now launch their own Tel-Aviv based label, Black Crow. With a successful series of parties operating under the same name, bringing to Tel-Aviv a tasteful selection of the world's top class techno DJ's and live acts, Black Crow, the label, is set to counter-match this high standard with its musical output. Inaugurating the label is the imminent release of 'Redshift", produced in collaboration with their long-time partner and excellent producer on his own right, Gene. 'Redshift' has the signature Deep'a & Biri sound, a pumping Detroit-indebted roller, with shout snippets riding in & out the keys-led workout. Keeping it in the Mediterranean, Greek producer Argy provides the remix, accenting the baseline and adding a spoken vocal that takes 'Redshift' all the way to Chicago. Rounding off the package is 'Blueshift", which demonstrates the team's melodic tendencies, with its more spatial arrangement perfect for those deep space moments.

Rogue Vogue - Say You Will

Rogue Vogue has been making a name for himself as a producer worth keeping an eye on with releases on French Express and remixes on Deep&Disco & French Horn Rebellion. He's finally ready to release his next original EP titled 'Say You Will' on his new home at House of Disco Records.

'Say You Will' includes 2 originals that brim with the joyous side of 90's house backed up with 3 remixes from Dublin Aunts, LeSale and House of Disco's Sixth Avenue Express. The originals are in keeping with each other while each of the 3 remixes bring something new to the table.

First up is the title track, 'Say You Will' which is a hip swaying homage to the sunny side of 90's house with more hooks than a 'Hellraiser' film. Addictive vocal stabs and sax hits are the name of the game as this one will have you digging in your drawer for those stonewashed jeans you'd forgotten about.

The first of the remixes by Dublin Aunts has a day rave written all over it with an epic acid tinged bassline and clever vocal treatments. The second remix by LeSale takes a slower, sexier tip and just grows and grows, leaning heavily on the keys but also introducing some strings into the equation.

Next up is the second original 'More Than Enough' which samples a vocal that many will recognise and makes it his own. A lot of this originals charm is in the lower end and will come to life on the right system. A dreamy breakdown cements this as a track that you'll keep coming back to.

Finally the last remix of the package by Sixth Avenue Express ads a heavy dose of sleaze to the original with a swinging melody line. Choosing to do away with the dreamy breakdown and instead replace it with an dramatic, elongated and memorable dancefloor moment.

Red Pack Ii 2x12"

Delsin Records
19.06.2013

Almost exactly three years after the first, Redshape has readied his second Red Pack, due for co release by his own Present imprint alongside his frequent Dutch home, Delsin, in June.
Whilst the world is still enjoying the German's latest album "Square", the man himself has typically moved on once more. On Red Pack II he offers up six tracks new of hugely atmospheric and romantically industrial techno across two pieces of vinyl.

First up, 'Disco Marauder' has raw, jangling beats, traumatised vocal cries and plenty of sci-fi ambiance all coalescing into a filmic techno tapestry, before 'Path Dub' goes deeper and more streamlined with rattling claps peeling off taught synth cables in hypnotic fashion. The same track also comes in an original version, which is a much more jagged, roughshod and textured affair.

'The Source' is a track slowed to a crawl that almost seems to want to collapse under its own weight. Machines gurgle and gargle, the beats march on with a heavy heart and widescreen synths all that ever present sense of cinematism that makes Redshape such a unique producer.

Standout track 'Daft Mode' features a beautiful Reese bassline and rich layers of classic Detroit chords of the sort Inner City once championed. Redshape then pairs them with slicing percussion and loose limbed but tough edged beats and lets them roll on to a blissfully emotive oblivion... Fans of 'Mucky Bones' from the first Red Pack might see this track as a close relative. Last track 'Bulp Head' is one of Redshape's more euphoric tracks thanks to the glistening and pixelated melodies which rise up and up through choppy, metallic percussion. It closes out another release from Redshape that offers six more classic pieces that are as idiosyncratic as they innovative..

That's not to say there isn't a community here, there is but it all works at a comfortable distance from each other, small pockets of talent all across the city, tiny satellites sending out their signal. It's always been about the bass! Starting the Electronic Supper Club with friends came out of nothing more than a vibe for the City, to create a canvas for us all to paint on in equal measure, it's from this work that this EP was born, it really connected us back into the City. It was and is our way to connect to past/present/future, while others may be dreaming of time travel and jet packs we accept that the future is much darker and more brutal. Welcome To SoYo

Alex Niggemann - Paranoid Funk Remixes

Alex Niggemann's 2012-defining long player 'Paranoid Funk' dropped in June to a rapturous response from DJs, dancers and home listeners alike. Here, Poker Flat Recordings revisits some of the exceptional highlights of that record, and deliver a remix package sure to be as equally sought-after by those in the know. 'Paranoid Funk' saw the Berlin resident explore a variety of grooves and textures, an experiment that won him many new admirers and a great deal of critical acclaim. Here, some of the hottest remix talent in the scene get their hands on the originals and twist them into new shapes. Following on from releases on Cocoon, Kling Klong, Circle and two strong EPs on Poker Flat ("Dinosaurs' and 'This") renowned producers Alex Flatner and LOPAZZ take on 'Don't Wait' and drop a growling, main room monster that will standout in any set. Francys, the young Italian making quiet a name for himself on the underground house and techno circuit, lends his skills to 'Back 2 Basics feat. Benji' - channeling the spirit of the early 90s into seven ecstatic minutes. Next up is Salvatore Freda - the highly respected Swiss DJ and producer who injects Niggemann's 'I Don't Care' with a narcotic groove that sits somewhere between Detroit and Berlin - the dubbed out vocals adding an element of otherworldliness that work in perfect compliment to the track's twisted (paranoid) funk. Berlin's own Andre Lodemann picks out 'Lovers' for his excursion, a deep bomb that grows and grows around an exceptional vocal from John Rydell - this is one for the very late nights or early mornings. What is clear from this release is that Alex Niggemann's star continues to rise - the classical pianist turned producer and DJ extraordinaire is moving on to the next phase of his career - and with the slew of outstanding releases to his name already, who is to say where that could lead. The Dark Crawler

Hyperdub
26.11.2012

Terror Danjah's second Hyperdub album is 'The Dark Crawler', a well-paced and much more upfront and energetic journey through his musical world than his debut 'Undeniable'. The album revolves around the 'Dark Crawler' theme, a blistering grime track that pops up several times, vocaled by MC's Riko Dan, Mayhem, Deadly and Saf One, and then lastly Trim and Kossie. That's not to say the album is one dimensional or relentless. It's subtley balanced with the 'Dark Crawler' thread of tracks allowing the album to spin off in a web of directions without losing any focus. It's a much more contained body of work, paced to keep the listeners interest. From the 'Dark Crawler' intro into the cartoonish horror soundtrack of 'Mirror's Edge', which tricks you into thinking its just any dubstep tune, before scattering into Terror's signature broken kicks and claps. 'Dark Gremlinz' featuring D.O.K. is a classic peak-era asymmetric grime instrumental. The album then drops down into the 130ish speed of 'Air Max 90' featuring Champion, which builds from a soca-like drum drill stretching the rhythm to the point of collapse with a wonky synth, before concluding on a driving baseline house 4/4. The first 'Dark Crawler' vocal is next, with a ferocious performance from veteran Roll Deep MC Riko Dan, who drops bloodthirsty threats at a breakneck pace. Next, the tempo drops down again to the drunk funk of 'Full Hundred', with criss cross claps and a rasping bassline breaking down into live drumming and tight trap door edits. Things speed up a little again with the intricate 8 bar funky of 'Rum Punch', a hard drum tattoo rolling out over a heavy detuned bassline and intense bleeps. On the second 'Dark Crawler', mic duties are shared by Birmingham MC's Mayhem , Deadly and Saf One. Their hard vocals contrast with lush styled R'n'B of 'You Make Me Feel' featuring Meleka. The album then rolls out into the galloping drums and smooth G-Funk synths of 'Baby Oil'. Trim and Kossie drop the final 'Dark Crawler' vocal, with Trim dropping deadpan threats contesting with Kossie's focussed hysteria. Next up 'Delicately', with Ruby Lee Rider, starts in slow motion R'n'B mood, sweet Rhodes chords drift and bubble up as the track doubles up into dreamy drum and bass with a fluttering tabla keeping the time, and Ruby's tender vocals tempering the pace and aggression. Overall, it's a brilliant exercise in breathless rhythmic arousal. 'Moschino', on the other hand is a darker, chunkier and grimier mirror image to 'Delicately', switching up into a ferocious metallic riffage, before the album closes on an outro of 'Dark Crawler' again. Form, function, energy and talent fuse perfectly over 'The Dark Crawler' s length. Enjoy the ride.

Erdbeerschnitzel - Tender Leaf 2x12"

The time has come. The funky nerd and knob-handler Erdbeerschnitzel alias Tim Keiling is releasing his first physical album on Mirau. The young producer, who has moved from his hometown of Mittelfischbach to Bonn, tapped into the lode of versatility early on, and has been extracting one surprise after another ever since. After single-handedly releasing a first digital album that was obviously bursting with ideas ('Pathetik Party', 2009), Erdbeerschnitzel rapidly made himself a name with first-class single releases in the following years on 3rd Strike Records, 4 Lux and Mirau - a name not easily forgotten. The release of the much-celebrated single 'To an End' on Mirau made clear that this was but the beginning of a work together. In the wake of anticipation created by the digital single 'Through the Night', the album 'Tender Leaf' is now available on beautifully packed double vinyl. 'Tender Leaf' is a collection of 12 wonderful tracks, splashing at the edges with Erdbeerschnitzel's signature deep, driving vibe throughout the entire album, pulling us into a pool of swinging, iridescent oomph. Each elaborate audio-bouquet is full of spirit. Sometimes weirdly romantic and introverted, then breaking out into raucous assemblage, flaunting sonar reverb. Keiling's production makes these gems sound like an essence of all the music around us today, which calls out to us in echoing vocal traces. In 'The Mattress Excursions', guest singer 'The Drifter' steers his soulful voice through the escalating arrangement and broken beats as we remember from early Jamie Lidell tracks. Erdbeerschnitzel frequently gives things a humorous turn, flashing us winks from the midst of the fray. His characteristic beat programming, clever and exulting, makes otherwise bland patterns swing into pulsating vivacity; picking up on contemporary styles and aesthetics, he re-animates sounds within his own parameters. The new Wheel and Deal production partnership between N-Type and Surge, releasing their 1st EP: September Sun. A: September Sun ft Pyxis - After the success of Surges first single with Pyxis (Leech), she once again delivers her signature vocal style, this time laid down on the fresh and original collaboration between Wheel and Deal label head N-Type and rising star Surge. The combination of production styles has built a fresh take on the dubstep sound. This featured in N-Types mini mix for Mistajams Radio 1 show earlier this year, with continuous radio support from Hatcha at Kiss 100, Mistajam, Walsh (Biscuit Factory Records) and N-Types Rinse FM show, every Tuesday 9-11pm. B: Mega-Tron - Featuring live guitar from Jonny Boltano, showcasing a different side to the duos production skills. Rolling rock style drums and build ups drop into a continuously transforming bassline. As the the track develops, the influx of the orchestra ends the track dramatically. Being battered by Hatcha at Kiss 100, Soap Dodgers, Laxx, Walsh, N-Type & Surge. This also featured in N-Types mini mix for Mistajams Radio 1 show earlier this year. C: Triangles - Old school Jungle/DnB, dub and techno influences rain through in this track. Dark & atmospheric, this could easily be a soundtrack of horror film proportions. The Bass is thick and punchy with the eerie sample 'Dark Triangles!' slicing through the darkness. Support from Mistajam, Hatcha, Soap Dodgers, Walsh, N-Type & Surge. D: Zombie Apocalypse - This one is more on the jump up side, proving the diversity in N-Type & Surge's production style. As the zombies approach, tension builds to the drop with the dramatic sample 'This is the End'. The bass is weighty and growling, like a blood thirsty monster. The second drop steps up the pace with a staggered, automated bass rinse out.

Special tracks have a special story behind them. And this one certainly does. After Mario & Vidis recorded a couple of tracks with Ernesto for their debut album Changed they invited him to perform in their home country. During his short stay in Lithuania Ernesto performed two times and both times closed his set with a track called Care. It was kind of a mash-up - Swedish singer & songwriter was using lyrics of his old song to sing over Metro Area's classic Caught Up to a big effect - leaving the packed dance floors to a sing along to lyrical hook of 'sisters and brothers, smokers and lovers, care for me' every time. Big fan of Metro Area's sound Vidis offered him to do a reversion of this mash-up using Caught Up as a reference and inspiration. The vocals were re-recorded, new arrangement was done, and the song was tested in the clubs as well as live on stage. So here it is - another big tune from the three to sing and dance along

Coming out with one of the most anticipated and long-awaited albums so far on Brainfeeder is Samiyam aka Sam Baker. 'Sam Baker's Album' is 40 minutes of pure listening pleasure, a series of woozy, off-centre hip hop instrumentals drawing heavily on Baker's love of electronic funk but never in hock to it. Intensely detailed and carrying considerable emotional weight, this is not 'Rap Beats Volume 2' but an album of fully-realised pieces of music which stand on their own without the need for an MC's intervention.
Ann Arbor native, Samiyam (born Sam Baker) moved to Los Angeles in 2006. In his short time out West, he has become one of the city's most progressive and recognized producers, a man who has spearheaded the revival of interest in instrumental hip-hop music over the last few years. Baker's 'Rap Beats Vol.1' collection was the very first release on Brainfeeder. He has also collaborated with old friend Flying Lotus as Flyamsam as well as having releases on Hyperdub and Poo-Bah records.Samiyam describes the work contained in his "Debut album" simply as, 'my favourite stuff' - and what could be better than that
