City Talk is the new self produced album from Zac Farro’s Halfnoise. City Talk arrives via Farro's Nashville artist collective Congrats Records and follows 2019’s critically acclaimed Motif LP.

Farro, perhaps best known as the drummer of Paramore, has been honing his skills outside of his main gig for years now. He’s released a steady flow of Halfnoise music, he’s produced and played with Becca Mancari and Elke, he's directed videos for Paramore, Hayley Williams, Elke and Halfnoise and he’s a consummate photographer – releasing a photo book in 2020 In Transit and shooting his bands and others, including Local Natives who are currently using Farro’s images as their promo shots.

Since 2009’s critically acclaimed Machine Dreams they have not sat still, touring the globe and making some high profile friends along the way.
No one in their right mind would have expected the future of soul music to come from Gothenburg, Sweden. But there it is in the dreamy, rhythmical, shifting, moody rainbow creature that is Little Dragon. It is easy to see why some of the world’s top musical luminaries are falling over themselves to work with them. Stylishly seductive in their own right, their 2007 selftitled debut was filled with classy songwriting and cool production, with the stunning track ‘Twice’ getting played on Grey’s Anatomy and countless adverts since it’s release. Machine Dreams showed a bouncier side, as they flexed their dancing nous and came up with an album that would turn Prince’s head.
Damon Albarn invited them to collaborate on two tracks for last year’s Gorillaz record Plastic Beach, which became album highlights for the critics with Pitchfork describing the songs ‘Empire Ants’ and ‘To Binge’ as “two of the most arresting things here; they’re airy, elusive and amazingly beautiful”.
Little Dragon started 2011 with a headlining tour of the U.S. and a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in March, thanks to a recommendation from super-fan Questlove of The Roots. In May, the band appeared on the track ‘Just Don’t’ from Raphael Saadiq’s Stone Rollin’, a record some are already calling the album of the year. Then Big Boi and DJ Shadow called to invite the group to work on new music.

It's the quiet ones we should watch, they always say. Which is particularly astute advice right now, when loud, constant self-declaration and saturated 'brand' visibility have become the norm. But above the babble and brightness, some voices will always speak quiet volumes ­- with calm eloquence and the kind of certitude that comes from valuing the playing out, not just the prize.

Sweden's José González is just such a voice. He first charmed his way into the UK's earshot via the murmurous and elegant, classically finger-picked folk pop of his 2005 album, Veneer, which has since sold over a staggering 430, 000 copies in UK alone. Two years later came In Our Nature, a further exploration of José's influences (Argentinian Folklore, the '60s US folk tradition and the British pastoral folk-pop style of the same era), on which he resisted the temptation to beef up his alluringly introvert aesthetic. The albums made the UK Top 10 and Top 20 respectively.

Conceived as the natural third part in an acoustic trilogy, Vestiges & Claws is a(nother) hushed and delicate solo set that forefronts the artist and guitarist's compellingly intimate vocal style and intricate playing technique, but it's often strikingly rhythmic in nature and cohere's perfectly, with hand claps and taps on the body of his instrument underlining the songs' mantric rise-and-fall pattern, while elsewhere, over-dubbed guitar parts and multi-tracked vocal harmonies entwine to sweetly immersive effect.

The title refers to both cultural practices and biological features that survive despite having lost their original function, and to currently useful tools, ie the 'claws' of modern life.

Vestiges & Claws was recorded almost entirely by José and self-produced, mostly in his Gothenburg home, using computer plug-ins to achieve a warm, analogue sound. He prefers working alone, mainly for artistic reasons. 'There were a couple of things that enabled me to complete this record: one was curiosity, to be able to play percussion and do a lot of harmonies and also to produce and mix the album; the other was aesthetics. I love to listen to Arthur Russell and Shuggie Otis, to music that has been done mostly by one person in their solitary state.'

As José sees it, the record is his personal, 'zoomed-out eye on humanity on a small, pale blue dot in a cold, sparse and unfriendly space. The amazing fact that we are all here, an attempt at encouraging us to understand ourselves and to make the best of the one life we know we have - after birth and before death.

This project should have been born in 2005. Indeed, hardock striker had just released his single control (with lyrics borrowed from Ian Curtis) and he recorded at the same time a cover of his favorite group Joy Division by imagining this track interpreted by new order and mixed by shep pettibone. Caught in a whirlwind of releases and dedicated exclusively to all artists signed at the time, this project was left aside. More than 15 years later, delighted to see a whole generation of producers greatly inspired by new wave and italo disco, he finally decides to release it realizing that the production hasn't aged a bit. As a bonus, it comes up with 2 monstruous remixes by the brilliant Spanish producer who is exploding everything at the moment, the future great Parissior.

In the mid '80s, in the midst and direct aftermath of the era defining Miner's Strike, the Redskins, as political activists, delivered their electrifying and radical Socialist Workers Party missives and broadsides through the ministry of their music - a unique post-punk rock/soul hybrid that gained their lead singer, Chris Dean, the sobriquet 'Tamla Motormouth'.

The Redskins were taking a stand for the working man and by standing up, they stood out - and never so forcefully as in the live arena! With their stellar musicianship and crack brass section honed through a never ending whorl of 'fighting fund' benefit gigs, they were the furious flames that kept the anti-Thatcher fires of dissent burning throughout those challenging years marked by her seeming unassailability.

'These Furious Flames!' is a 25 track documentation of the energy, commitment and drive of the Redskins as that campaigning live act. Issued in 2xCD capacity wallet, double vinyl and digital editions, each format couples together a recording of the full set of the finale concert of their 1985 'Kick Over Apartheid!' tour - including guest appearances from Jerry Dammers and Billy Bragg - with the BBC broadcast tracks from their 1986 concert at the Town And Country Club.

Drum To Death is a collection of 11 experiments by Peter Kernel and their favourite drummers. Throughout 2020-2023 Peter Kernel invited eleven of their most esteemed drummers to send them rhythms with which they composed these eleven tracks. Each song was written and dedicated to the inherent drummer as an ode of appreciation to the beat creator. These eleven songs come together as a unique collection of an odd collaboration based on appreciation for different styles and people, a microworld made of different feelings, patterns, colours, intentions and attitudes. Das Kasseler Duo Some More Crime formierte sich 1990 mit der Idee, die gesprochene, aus Pre-Internet-Medien gesampelte Stimme als ausschließliches Text-Instrument einzusetzen. Während des Kunststudiums hatte sich der Trommler Bernd Friedmann (Burnt Friedmann / Nonplace Urban Field) mit dem Gitarristen Frank Hernandez zusammengetan, um die Abgründe des Zusammenhangs von Gewalt in den Medien, bzw. mind control, zu studieren und zu verstehen, und diese im Studio als Quasi-Collagen mit Grooves zur Entfaltung zu bringen. Some More Crime kann heute gewissermaßen als Nachzügler von Laibach, oder als konzeptueller Vorläufer von Rammstein betrachtet werden. Mit Ihrer dritten, 23 Titel umfassenden CD schafften es die Konstrukteure an Samplern und Atari-Sequenzer, Frank Hernandez und Burnt Friedman 1993 schliesslich in den Fokus internationaler Aufmerksamkeit zu kommen. Ihre überwiegend aus dem Amerikanischen gewonnenen, de-kontextualisierten Text-Cluster aus Interviews mit Gewaltverbrechern und damit verbundenen Medienkommentaren versuchte zu zeigen, dass die steifer werdende Deutungshoheit der Medien-Narrative zumindest eines vermochte, nämlich anstatt sinnstiftend zu wirken, die Massen in Angst und Verwirrung zu versetzen. Mit Friedmann's Umzug nach Köln wurde Some More Crime bereits 1994/95, also nach 3 Studio Alben beendet. Im Alleingang erzeugte Friedmann eine vierte, allerdings wenig beachtete CD, die angefangene Skizzen 1996 noch zur Vollendung und Veröffentlichung brachte. ZZO recordings Gründer Thomas Luckmann, Nürnberg, nahm sich des Duos 1990 an und unterstützte die künstlerische Arbeit trotz starken Seitenwinds des aufstrebenden, unwiderstehlichen Technosounds, der Anfang der 90ziger durch Deutschland's Musikszene zu wehen begann.

The A side of this 45, a brand new track from Aaron Frazer, is about how pressure makes diamonds. The last couple years have been really challenging, especially for those navigating relationships amidst the chaos. This song celebrates the connections of love that are strong enough to weather any storm, and the certainty that comes from making it through together. The B side features a track from Aaron's first solo LP, Introducing. Lyrically, Frazer sounds lovesick; the imagery he paints of demons "so close behind" and the repetition of these lyrics emphasize his longing. The song starts with piercing guitar, dark bass, and chime piano and Frazer himself drums throughout the song. The orchestration is swell while the strings and voices blend well with the transcendent feel of the music.

Indie pop quartet Melenas hail from Pamplona, Spain, a picturesque region nestled just south of the Pyrenees. Such beauty can't help but inform the band's songwriting, but Melenas aren't content to just sit placidly & take in the scenery. Since they burst onto the scene in 2016, the band has hit the ground running, playing incessantly both locally & on the stages at national festivals like Primavera Sound & Eurosonic as well as releasing a debut full length (2018's "s/t" album) and a 7-inch single both triple-released on local labels Elsa, Nebula & Snap! Trouble In Mind is honored to be releasing their new album Dias Raros and is the first label outside of Spain to release Melenas music to the world.Dias Raros hums right from the get-go, peppering their garage-pop punch with elements of lysergic dream pop, melancholic indie rock and strident guitar jangle. The album title translates to "Strange Days" an acknowledgement - according to the band - of "...those days where you spend more time inside than outside. Inside your own self, inside your bedroom and your own universe thinking about your wishes, dreams, memories, obsessions or fears." The lyrics - sung entirely in their native Spanish - reference "those interior dialogues where sometimes you fight to escape from a situation, you wonder what another person will be thinking about or feeling, you gotta say goodbye, or you just enjoy the time by yourself. Days that, for different reasons, you're feeling different, they are strange". Opener "Primer tiempo" buzzes with an urgent organ drone, unfolding into a yearning ballad of modern guitar-pop bolstered by the group's lush harmonies & sets the tone for the rest of Dias Raros. Songs like "No puedo pensar" "3 Segundos" and "Despertar" follow suit, with the rhythm section galloping headlong into an insistent guitar strum, while ballads like the tender "El Tiempo ha Padsado" rely on the band's melodious voices bolstered by a lilting guitar riff and gentle organ swells. Elsewhere mid tempo rockers like the stomping "Los alemanes", the simmering "Ciencia Ficción" and "Ya no es Verano"s insistent jangle recall underground greats like The Pastels, R.E.M. and Shop Assistants. "Vals" ("Waltz") closes the album in 3/4 time, named for the ballroom dance as well as the last name of a close friend - a dedication to her. Its dreamy sway alluding to classic Brill Building songwriting; dusted with melancholy, but lifted by cascading voices, and organ and guitar waves and guitars that twinkle and shimmer over a cracking backbeat. Dias Raros is the perfect introduction to a band bursting with promise, confidently inhabiting their own space built upon the foundation of their influences both geographically and culturally, as well as musically.

Along with Confetti's and Amnesia, it was one of the most popular tracks of its time and marked the start of a long and promising career for Bruno Sanchioni. Just 2 years later, he composed the original bassline for the legendary track "Age of Love", which, thanks to Jam & Spoon's remix, was to stamp the electronic music scene for several generations. Based on video clash created by the visionary Lil'Louis, the original slow tempo was enhanced by the highly recognisable vocal "The Story" and a simple but highly effective melody. It was already remixed 10 years later by Viper, with a rhythmic pattern once again inspired by the Chicago pioneers.



25 years on, this track still evokes emotion and still inspires a good number of artists to want to touch it up, and for the track's 35th anniversary it seemed appropriate to pay it a vibrant tribute by offering several remixes split into two different vinyl projects. In a faster, more acid-influenced style, the first project features a remix by DJHS, Manu Kenton and Furax, emblematic artists from the north of France, and is completed by Viper's excellent 98 remix for those who haven't heard it yet. DJHS is behind the legendary acid track 'Spokesman', Manu Kenton is one of the flagship artists of the 'Ghoststyle' label and Furax is behind 'Big Orgus'.

FULL OF HELL return with their highly anticipated new album, Garden Of Burning Apparitions. The new album, a genre-bending blitzkrieg of hardcore, grind and death metal, sees the band expand upon the very elements that have propelled FULL OF HELL to the forefront of extreme music over the last decade. "Industrial Messiah Complex” grinds organized religion to a pulp in under 90 seconds, while Walker contemplates the commodification of spirituality seen in America’s vast network of garish mega-churches and how these practices are at odds with true spirituality. Meanwhile, “Reeking Tunnels” rides a strident noise rock riff down into the sewer. It’s a metaphor for the physical and mental space we become trapped in when we live in a perpetual state of fear and hate. Elsewhere, justifiable ochlophobia propels the guttural death metal blast of “Eroding Shell.” Lyrically, the song seeks to capture our fear of the violent, ignorant mob—a scene glimpsed far too often in this volatile era. In the end, FULL OF HELL’s boundary smashing has paid off again. “I think it’s good that we tried not to pigeonhole ourselves early on,” Walker reflects. “Because now, 10 years in, we have the opportunity to make whatever record we want, within reason, and people will follow along.”

New album-length EP from the award-winning alternative rock unit, featuring the single "Bail Out".

On Gary’s forthcoming solo acoustic guitar concept album, each song is shot/recorded with a different vintage acoustic guitar of Gary’s private very rare collection. The instruments range from Martin 0-1898 Herringbone to Gary’s “Main Axe” (over the last 4 decades) Martin D28 1941 Herringbone and 7 other significant guitars for this project entitled “Gary Brewer’s House of Axes”. This is a “getting back to his roots” type feel likened unto Leo Kottke’s 1969 album 6- and 12-String Guitar, with a very stripped down/pure raw microscopic view of the essence and soul of these vintage instruments without the blurring accents of other instrumental accompaniments (in our best efforts to capture the true energy this album was cut with no overdubs, and each song was captured in the first take). There are 9 songs with the last song being a moving tribute to Gary’s late Father Finley Brewer whom he lost to cancer in late 2020. Each of these songs have short introductions that tell about each guitar and the song briefly.

Scout (Amsterdam, 17 februari 2001) heeft in de afgelopen jaren volledig zijn eigen geluid gevonden binnen de Nederlandse popmuziek. In een wereld tussen Hip-Hop en alternatieve Pop ziet de zanger en producer zich als verhalenverteller. In zijn EP "littekens" komt zijn grootse en melancholische geluid tot leven in een verhaal over zijn ervaringen met liefde en mentale gezondheid. Door in zijn eigen slaapkamer te schrijven en op te nemen is de EP doordrenkt met kwetsbaarheid en intimiteit. Hierdoor neemt de opkomende ster de luisteraar mee naar zijn eigen wereld.

Na jaren ervaring te hebben opgedaan op piano pakt Scout in 2016 voor het eerst een basgitaar op en voordat hij het weet schrijft de jonge artiest op zijn kleine studentenkamertje in Delft zijn eigen muziek. Het ging ineens niet meer over noten, rijmschema's en akkoorden: het maken van muziek was uitgegroeid tot zijn therapeutische uitlaatklep. Hieruit volgt in 2020 uiteindelijk zijn self-titled debuutalbum "Scout".

Sinds eind 2022 brengt het opkomend talent consistent muziek uit en vindt hij zijn eigen weg binnen het muzieklandschap. Door steeds meer instrumenten onder de knie te krijgen en meer en meer te leren over muziek en emotie ontstaat een werkelijk nieuw, echt en eigen geluid wat maar met één woord te omschrijven valt: kippenvelmuziek.

Na het uitkomen van zijn EP "littekens" in april 2023 wordt hij benaderd om dit werk uit te brengen op vinyl. Om deze muzikale reis uit te breiden en om nog dieper in de wereld van scout te duiken bevat de LP vier bonustracks. Hieronder valt een akoestische versie van het populairste nummer "herfst", die de kwetsbaarheid van de jonge maker nog verder naar voren brengt. Ook bevat de LP een live versie van "de wereld draait door". Deze versie is opgenomen in beroemd restaurant "De Goudfazant" in Amsterdam. Een speciale plek voor Scout, hier heeft veel van zijn familiegeschiedenis zich afgespeeld. Het nummer komt hierdoor nog meer tot zijn recht door het rauwe geluid van alleen piano en stem. Ook bevat de LP twee extension tracks die het verhaal van de spreekwoordelijke littekens verder uitbreiden. Zo komt Scout in zijn nummer "hartendief" tot de realisatie dat zijn partner hem niet ziet zoals hij haar en komt hij in het nummer "kwijt voor altijd" tot een besluit om het hoofdstuk van deze littekens voorgoed af te sluiten. Deze extension tracks zijn tot op heden alleen te beluisteren op de LP maar zullen in de loop van 2024 ook op streamingdiensten verschijnen. Deze releases zijn de voorzet voor een reeks singles in 2024 die uiteindelijk zullen leiden tot zijn eerste studioalbum in 2025.

Durangas was composed by Asier, arranged/conducted by Garazi Navas, performed by an 18 women choir from Durango and recorded live at San Agustin Cultural Centre. All of the other tracks were recorded between 2021-2022 in between portable recorders in Burgos or at Estudios Nomadas.

Soul II Soul revitalises the iconic “Nothing Compares to You,” now featuring the mesmerising vocals of Nadine Ceaser. The poetry of the human voice encounters the magic of contemporary electronic musical technology. Heart, mind and spirit, conveyed by the word, are augmented and altered, enhanced and embraced, by electronic sound. Air from Air is a collaboration between Japanese vocalist/producer Dove and American electronic duo Georgia. This singular partnership is a collection of audio poems in which words breathed by Dove are modified and expanded, cradled and celebrated, syllable by syllable and phrase by phrase. Georgia thoughtfully highlight Dove’s voice, transforming breath and air through the ether of circuitry, dismantling meaning, yet paradoxically revealing new meaning, both verbal and musical. Part of the magic here is that Japanese-speaking listeners will find clouds and constellations of meaning in these atmospheres, while those who do not understand Dove’s native language will nevertheless find pure pleasure in these same atmospheres. While some listeners may perceive it as a brand new extension of the attempts of contemporary music pioneers to explore the possibilities of human
voice sound in sound art and electronic music, Air from Air will be rather a foray into the unexplored territory of new music, yet difficult to be named, extended into modern bass music and other fields.

'Light Years', released a few days before Kate's 50th birthday, is Rusby's 7th Christmas record and features vocals by Alison Krauss and Ron Block Her love of Christmas music and upbringing on a rich tradition of 'local carols' is no secret to her many fans.' Light Years', a lyric in one of the albums songs, is full of Rusby-fied versions of carols and well-known songs which depict in her own words, "Joyful memories of music, family, community, warmth and happiness - and a little wine!" The album follows in the footsteps sonically of her last two releases, 'Hand Me Down' 2020 and '30: Happy Returns' 2023. Experimental sounds, moogs, layered banjos, lush electric guitars, low subs, soaring acoustics, wonderful effects and of course, her own spellbinding vocals. There are songs old and new on this record. Many standout tracks include Rusby's self-penned 'Glorious', a song about a lost and broken angel and one which takes the listener on a thrilling journey through snow laden trees and a warm glow of the evening sun illuminating only half of the world. Her own version of 'Rockin Around the Christmas Tree & Sleigh Ride,' combined, make a simply wonderful version that will have you spilling your nutmeg all over the dancefloor! 'The Moon Shines Bright' features the gorgeous harmony vocals of Alison Krauss and Ron Block amongst a gorgeous soundscape of guitars and 'The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year' is a true example of how Rusby can take a classic and stunningly make it her own. No Rusby Christmas album would be complete without a little humour and 'Nothin For Christmas' and Chris Sugden's (aka Sid Kipper) parody 'Arrest These Merry Gentlemen' will not fail to make any 'bah humbugger' chuckle. One-off masterpiece release of German Minimal Synth-Pop from Gütersloh, Germany in 1984. Recorded in a DIY recording studio in a former prison for the mentally ill located on the outskirts of a forest near the artists’ homes aptly named Prison Studio.

Back in 1984, the release was privately pressed on 7″ by the band itself, distributed in limited quantities at the time and it has only exchanged hands a few times on public marketplaces since its original release, for very high prices. The record has always been as rare as it is good, to quote Basso. We are delighted to make this outstanding release available again to record collectors and DJs around the world as the first release on Average Records.

Included in this 12″ repress are 2 stunning brand new remixes by virtuoso producers and friends Alexander Arpeggio from Berlin and Aradea Barandana aka Dea who currently resides between Jakarta and Bali, each bringing their own flavour to the table.

2021 duo album by pianist/composer and Blue Note Records' artist Jason Moran and saxophone great Archie Shepp "Neither Archie Shepp nor Jason Moran are old, and neither are they young - except in spirit and delight. Moran is the more recent arrival, and he's no new kid on the block. They carry age and experience in their playing as much as a youthful fascination with the songs and forms that define this tradition we call jazz. Let My People Go is the timely title of this collection, but when has that message not been relevant? Now, sadly, as ever. This is their first album together, a gathering of duet performances from 2017 and 2018, chronicling a relationship that can sound like the intimate huddling of two old friends: whispered asides, excited exclamations, utterances coinciding with practiced harmony, followed by bursts of laughter. "Ain't misbehavin'!" cries out one. "Waahhhh!!," says the other. Let My People Go offers ample evidence of Shepp and Moran's consanguinity. DJ Manny's new album 'Hypnotized' is full of fresh ideas which push the footwork format of 160bpm hyper-rhythmic music in really enjoyable new directions. He builds on the romantic themes of his last album 'Signals In My Head' and evolves them with shades of blue, taking very natural sounding experimentation into new moods and musical colour while never making the album inaccessible. Arguably this is a fine successor to the ground broken by DJ Rashad's 'Double Cup' album, which of course Manny also worked on. 'Hypnotized' solidifies Manny's style, from relaxed r'n'b rollers to moments of romantic distress - like 'WTF Goin On' and the reflective 'You N You (ft. DJ Phil)', to more intense moments like the dubstep inflected 'Ooh Baby' from the vaults, co-produced by DJ Rashad himself. Other tracks like 'Want U Bad' retool Robert Hood style minimal techno whereas dark, nervous belters like 'Turn Me Up' sound like Paul Johnson at his most wild but welded to footwork rhythms and a pumping jump up drum & bass-line. There are also moments of enjoyably hype daftness like the acid and diva head-fuck of 'Opera' or the old school Bukem style jungle homage 'Lost In Da Jungle'. 'Hypnotized' is an album that expands footwork's template with natural ease and outstanding skill.

A 'Double Cup' reissue will be available this year to celebrate and honor the 10 year anniversary since the release of this seminal record. This was the debut studio album from the late footwork pioneer, Chicago-based DJ Rashad.

Released originally in 2013, it ended up on year-end lists from Pitchfork, The Guardian, Dazed, Resident Advisor, Crack Magazine, The Wire and Complex, as well as decade lists from Pitchfork, Noisey and SPIN. Rolling Stone described it as "somehow both weightless and brutally powerful" while Pitchfork said it as "unquestionably the strongest footwork-related LP" and NME said it was "unprecedented".

The 'Double Cup' reissue will be pressed on limited edition gold vinyl and includes new artwork created by Teklife visual artist Ashes57 and will be released on December 8, 2023, on Partisan.

Super producer Mura Masa releases his first 7" single on his own record label Pond Recordings, featuring the monumental soulful house track 'rise', the calling card to the artist's new dancefloor focused era as an independent artist. 'gimme', the vinyl's B Side, is a much more dark and underground electronic track that Mura Masa first debuted on his recent BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. This short run of vinyl is the first physical release on Pond Recordings and will no doubt prove to be a very important milestone in the development of the label.

180g audiophile vinyl reissue of American blues guitarist Melvin Taylor's 1995 album 'Melvin Taylor & The Slack Band', which is appearing on vinyl for the first time with remastering by Cicely Baston at Alchemy/Air Mastering, London "The U.S. release of Melvin Taylor's two early-'80s LPs by Evidence a decade later was a shock introduction to a blues guitarist who seemingly blazed out of nowhere - outside of Rosa's Lounge in Chicago, that is. "Blazed" is the right word, too, because Taylor is a total maximalist who unleashes torrents of notes to fill up every space. But he's so convincing a player that the concept of "blues guitar hero" might get a good name again, even with fans dead- tired of excess who never thought they'd think things like, "Man, can Melvin Taylor play the ever-loving (add the expletive superlative of your choice) out of the guitar" again. Taylor's first real-time release, Melvin Taylor & the Slack Band, is a pretty straightforward affair - basic trio with minimal overdubs, serviceable vocals in an Albert King mode, and a mix of originals and very classic covers. The opening "Texas Flood" lets him rip on a slow blues, constantly changing up his playing with wah-wah blitzes as the real ace in his sonic hole. The originals "Depression Blues" and "Groovin' in New Orleans" add some funk flair, while "Talking to Anna Mae" is a straight- up Chicago boogie instrumental that Taylor shines on. But he's even more in his element on the unadorned slow blues "Tin Pan Alley" and King's "Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong." It's partly the speed but even more the phrasing - the unexpected stops and starts, the spiky and blazing runs and flurries, the unusual note selections he tosses in - that sets his playing apart. The other covers have their sporadic moments - "TBone Shuffle" is inconsequential, but Otis Rush's "All Your Love" and "Voodoo Chile" are worth listening to, even if the latter doesn't add anything to the famous Hendrix wah-wah workout. Taylor actually doesn't sound that radical here, like he was playing to establish blues circuit credentials by putting his stamp on familiar songs more than indulging offbeat personal touches like the mellow lounge jazz take on the Champs' "Tequila." Critically acclaimed and widely praised, from the club world to cinema, ‘OK Cowboy’ is a ground-breaking record and is now available in a white vinyl 2LP pressing. Vitalic has a certain playful mystique that goes beyond Pascal Arbez’s invented back story of being a Ukrainian trubcka player and occasional gigolo from a family of sea otter fur traders. In fact, his inability to take anything too seriously, least of all the music he makes, may be the key to Vitalic’s appeal. In an interview around the time that his full-length debut, ‘OK Cowboy’, was released, Arbez stated that he didn’t listen to techno albums “because they are boring,” something that can’t be said of this witty, stylistically omnivorous album. Pascal states that all of the instruments used in the album are synthesized, with his official website stating that “the only thing he can’t fake is the emotion that galvanizes his music.”

Fifth volume of "The Encyclopedia of Civilizations", Abstrakce's collection of split LPs where selected artists offer their own insight into fascinating ancient cultures. This time the focus is on the enigmatic Babylon, visited by two of the label's favourite electronic bands currently active.

Berlin-based duo Driftmachine take us on a journey between the ancient cities of Akkad, Uruk and Ashur. Glasgow-based project Komodo Kolektif delves into the Babylonian vision of magic through the figures of the Kassaptu (witches and wizards) and the use of Mandragora. A blend of both tribal primitivism and a futuristic vision is provided by their vast arsenal of vintage synths and effects units, eastern metallophones and traditional hand percussion. Deep, psychedelic electronics that capture the spirit of ancient Babylonian sacred ceremonies and their vision of the cosmos.
