As a Frankfurt native, Oskar Offermann has of course been a longtime friend of the Robert Johnson club, first as a regular guest and later as a regular DJ. After spending 15 years in exile (Berlin, where else) and putting out music on his own (White and Rimini) as well as befriended labels (Mule Musiq, Aim and Hardworksoftdrink), the long-lost son has finally come back home (Offenbach, where else) and will debut on Live At Robert Johnson with three tracks that bring together Oskar's melodic approach and the bleepy sound of Frankfurt's new school.

CYBERSPEAK, Milan multidisciplinary collective appears on the internet as a language of objectivity and truth, as the computer is, challenging the existing order in electronic music.

Warehouse Find!

Helsinki-based producer Saine makes his Delusions debut following amazing output on such revered labels as Voyage Recordings, Odd Socks, Omena and Fina. A producer who can flit from hazy instrumental hip hop through to raw, dusty house at the flick of a switch, Saine has built a solid following amongst lovers of left field leanings we've come to expect from the likes of Max Graef, Glenn Astro, Henry Wu and Leon Vynhall.

On lead track Act Natural we find Saine in perhaps his heaviest mood to date, delivering a crunchy uptempo house jam which retains his unique sound despite being aimed firmly at the dancefloor. A speaker wobbling eighth note bassline locks down the groove whilst familiar, much-loved frag- ments from the rave days punctuate the crackling beats. Add to this some simple syncopated chords and you have a winning formula for a timeless track which looks to the future whilst respectfully doffing it's cap to the past.

Jus Right continues in a deeper, more musical fashion with Saine getting busy on his synths, building up layers of warm pads and soloing Moog lines. A prominent vocal brings a soulful touch whilst the minimal, almost hihat-less groove adds an original and fresh feel to this blissful track.
Flipping over we have Low Key, a shuffling deep house number loaded with sliced Rhodes samples, echoing vocal hits, clipped percussion and sublime bass. As the atmosphere thickens, everything falls away to silence before rebuilding, creating some nice tension in the arrangement.

Finally we have Pontchartrain offering up an excellent remix of Jus Right. The Detroit native responsible for some mighty fine releases for the likes of Rocksteady Disco, Lovedancing, Soul Clap, Kolour LTD and Whiskey Disco takes things in a more straight-up house direction with heavier beats, 909 hats pushed to the fore and a distinctively old school feel to the mix.

Bowman Trio returns with a strong double-sider 7". The trio delivers their trademark loft jazz with remarkable energy and swing on "The Chase (Version 1)" and "The Hillary Step". Both are fresh studio cuts which serve as tasters of the Helsinki trio's new music in anticipation of their second full-length expected to be released in 2019.

Instantly recognisable from it's ravey riff and funky drum programming, file this one under 'rave classic'! Over on the flip side we have South Street Player's smoothed out '(Who) Keeps Changing Your Mind', a rolling and deep jam from Roland Clark and George Morel that came out in 1993. This one's some lights down, honest to god soulful house music, skipping garage drums and that organ driven groove offer the perfect vehicle for Clark's gorgeous vox to soar over. If you check the credits of The Rolling Stones' Goats Head Soup LP from 1973 you'll find a certain "Pascal" listed on the percussion section. That is none other than Los Angeles based artist Nicolas Pascal Raicevik (1933-1994), aka 107-34-8933, aka Head, aka Nik Pascal, aka Nik Raicevic. Besides his hitting the bongoes on the Stones album, Nik was a great artist on his own, both as a painter and as a musician. As a musician, he was a pioneer in the use of synthesizers, preceeding the Berlin school by some years when his Head LP was released on on Buddah in 1970. Buddah probably saw in Head the opportunity to cash in some money from the remains of the psychedelic scene - the three tracks on the LP are named after drugs used in the late sixties. The sounds, however, are accomplished works that show Raicevic as one of the most interesting pioneers in the use of synths. The album probably didn't do too well, since Buddah didn't renew the contract with Raicevic, who instead took his own way releasing his works on his very own Narco Records and Tapes label. Between 1968 and 1975 Narco would issue 4 LPs credited either to Nik Raicevic (Beyond The End... Eternity) or Nik Pascal (The Sixth Ear, Magnetic Web and Zero Gravity) plus one credited to 107-34-8933 (Numbers, which is in fact the same LP as Buddah's Head, albeit with different cover art). Copies of these LPs came with an ironic sticker over the shrinkwrap that read "Do not listen to this LP if you are stoned".

1972 saw the release of The Sixth Ear (Narco NR666), this time credited to Nik Pascal. A more complex work than Beyond The End..., it adds consistent rhythmic patterns to the mix with the addition of bongoes and also explores some interesting chord progressions.

Besides his musical explorations, Nik was also an interesting painter. His paintings are auctioned from time to time, and are consciousness expanding works influenced by abstract cubism and surrealism, some kind of Salvador Dalí on drugs exploring the outter and inner space. All the artwork on the sleeves of his LPs is done by himself. Spacey landscapes and psychedelic colours that fit perfectly to the music they contain.

Nik's last album, Zero Gravity (Narco NR123) came under the Nik Pascal name and had a fantastic side long piece on the title track which reminisces of the works of Cluster. B side features four tracks that also bear some Conrad Schnitzler reminiscences. This was to be Nik's last LP before he would sell all his synths to ex car racer and future electronic/ambient music star Steve Roach.

Long time scene stalwart Darren Price is stepping out on brand new label, Kilsha Music, with a fantastic EP of monster house tracks arriving on both vinyl and digital.

Opener 'Charm Offensive' is a fantastic ten-minute trip into loose limbed techno. Drums, bass and percussion all wrap and weave around each other and melt your mind in the process. A rasping lead synth eventually becomes the focal point as background chords bring real soul.

The brilliantly bristling 'Everybody Jack (UW Live Maschine Mix)' is a full fat track with busy textured synths, sci-fi effects and old school jack vocals that will really work the dance floor into a lather. It's dynamic and ever evolving, with plenty of tense peaks and troughs throughout to keep the 'floor on its toes.

The final vinyl track is 'This is House Music', a deeper cut with warm, warbling bass and a muted acid line spraying about the mix. It slowly builds the pressure in heady fashion and is one to really hypnotise.

This is a fresh EP from one of the techno scene's most enduring and essential talents.

This Geneva-based band have finely honed their instrumental "post-internet groove", creating the perfect blend of old-school funk, afro-beat, 70s soundtrack fusion, always adding a pinch of futuristic production and a touch of modernity aimed at bring the groove genre to new generations.

Side A, 'Funky Splash' is an original composition, understated in its groove but with the punch and crunch falling in all the right places, hence can be enjoyed either stewing in the background or as a dancefloor filler. The wah-wah and off-the-wall synths are both used to great rhythmic effect.

Side B, 'O Caminho do Bem', is a cover version of the Brazilian musical heavyweight Tim Maia. Always hard to revisit a classic, but L'Eclair's tight musicianship, perfect pacing and futuristic twist all add an extra layer of groove onto the mellow funk of the original.

Another slice of immaculate sounds for the ears and feet from Switzerland's finest export, Rocafort Records.

Parisian imprint Hard Beach Entertainment follow up some great releases by Corporation Mindfuck, DJ SCSI and Bastien Carrara with some old-school electro vibes by the mysterious Reflective Souls. This is their second release for the label. Beginning in bold fashion with the brooding retro bounce of "Doom 2020" on the A side, but it's on the flip where this 12" really shines. The evocative Motor City aesthetic of "G Club Live" was a particular highlight, while the tough electro-bass of "Body Control" has a wicked groove that's more than capable of getting some heads-down moments on the dancefloor.

Crafted in the style of old school dancehall clashing, 'Veteran' is a mixture of classic heavyweight dancehall lyrics and a new school flow. The tune is set to be a timeless banger aiming to keep the dancehall massive rocking and swinging day and night.
Inspired by the riddim and sounds of Blind Prophet, Clinton Sly is ready to run the sound system!
Slowing down the tempo to 120bpm, Blind Prophet delivers a heavy dose of dubwise for the B-side. 'Hugh Dub' starts off with a mutated vocal and quickly drops into a tuff steppers riddim. A distorted bassline and thumping kick drive the track.
Accompanied by plucked guitars, organ skanks and dub FX it's a sound system stomper for sure!
