Epic Anime ist eine außergewöhnliche Sammlung neuer, offiziell von den originalen Studios und Verlagen autorisierter Orchesterarrangements einiger der bekanntesten Anime-Titel. Das Album der NDR Radiophilharmonie unter der Leitung von Dirigent Michael England erscheint als 2×180g-Vinyl in "Oxblood"-Färbung und auf CD. Das Album entstand in Koproduktion mit dem Norddeutschen Rundfunk.
Auf Epic Anime findet sich eine hochkarätige Auswahl an Gast-Solist*Innen, darunter die Geiger*innen Esther Abrami, Andrea Cicalese und Niklas Liepe, die Cellistinnen Mariko Muranaka und Raphaela Gromes, Akkordeonist Martynas sowie die Pianisten Tim Allhoff und Louis Philippson. Auf ausgewählten Titeln ist der Chor Pop-Up zu hören, als auch eine Rockband bestehend aus einigen der besten Sessionmusiker*Innen.
Das Album präsentiert neue sinfonische Interpretationen populärer Anime-Themen aus Demon Slayer, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Naruto, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Bleach, Kikis Delivery Service, Spirited Away und weiteren Produktionen. Sämtliche Arrangements und Aufnahmen entstanden mit ausdrücklicher Zustimmung der jeweiligen Rechteinhaber und gewährleisten damit höchste Authentizität. Nick Bike hops aboard his groove machine again for another tidy two tracker that does disco differently., The A-side is 'Yabba Dabba', which is an edit of a classic Scandi-pop gem with plenty of the original melodies reworked into a fatter groove with disco claps. It's full of fun but also nice chunky drums and subtle effects that draw out the magic and up the funk. On the flip side is a dub that is a little more airy and light, with a dreamier edge for the zoned-out moments, but also a reverb-drenched vocal. Two effective and charming cuts for grown-up floors and magic moments.

Today Cork's acclaimed Cardinals announce their much-anticipated debut album 'Masquerade'. Set to land February 13th on tastemaker label So Young Records, the ten song album was recorded with producer Shrink at RAK Studios, London across the summer. It's a record that is at once grand and intimate, awash with romance and flickers of holy imagery, and most of all, it's an undeniable fulfilment of the innate promise the band have shown since their earliest beginnings. These are emotionally expansive songs, some simmering with an undercurrent of violence, cynicism or fervent discontent (Anhedonia, The Burning of Cork, Barbed Wire) and others gleaming with a bright-eyed vulnerability. A vivid first half contrasts a darker second and crafts a record with a clear A-side and B-side. A nod to the band’s collective love of vinyl, that tonal shift takes its cue from a variety of expected and unexpected influences - from the brittle honesty of folk to the theatrical melodrama of goth-rock. Portland, Oregon dark rock trio HOAXED return with their stunning new album Death Knocks. Three years in the making, the group—featuring vocalist/guitarist Kat Keo, drummer Kim Coffel, and new bassist/vocalist April Dimmick—have honed their stygian craft to perfection. "We've added another element to the writing and collaboration process," says the band. "April comes from a classic heavy metal background, and her influence is in these songs. We've also had experiences on tour that have helped shape these songs. You can hear influence from the bands we toured with and learned from. We played together for three years as we wrote this album, and we learned a lot about our styles, and our sound evolved naturally together on stage. So, when we sat down to write this album, it didn't feel like a departure or a change." Anchored by the witchy spell of opener "Where the Seas Fall Silent," the rock-hardened groove of "Kill Switch," and the dimly lit power pop of "The Family," HOAXED upped the tempo, sawed the edges (Dimmick's raspy menace intimidates), and strengthened their ties to the golden gods of heavy metal. Indeed, cyclical riffs, dynamic rhythms, and bottom-heavy bass propel Death Knocks through its filmic, hard-nosed gloom, but Keo's sorcerous vocal hooks seal the deal. In 1984 Glen Campbell first played the song ""Highwayman"" for Johnny Cash. The four were all together in Switzerland doing a television special and decided that they should do a project together. While the four were recording their first album, Marty Stuart again played the song for Cash, saying it would be perfect for them - four verses, four souls, and four of them. The quartet had the name for their new super-group ""The Highwaymen"", the name of their first album, Highwayman, and the name of their first single. It was a perfect name for them because they were always on the road and all four had the image of being outlaws in country music.
Both the album and the single eventually reached the top spot in the country music charts. Their cover of Guy Clark's ""Desperados Waiting for a Train"" reached the Top 20.

His compositions embody the desire to make jazz, in its various forms and influences, accessible to the widest possible audience without sacrificing the impact of an engaging and captivating live performance.
Joe Allotta blends hip hop, funk, and drum 'n' bass with contemporary jazz, perfectly blending vocals with his performances. He combines
his rhythmic exploration with a sweet and surprising voice, capable of lending further emotional depth to his music.
"Transition" is a musical journey that reflects a life in constant motion, where everything seems fleeting, fast, and fleeting, immersed in the
frenetic rhythms that surround us every day. The title also encompasses a more intimate dimension: the growth of his artistic identity. Joe is

Minor Notes continues to explore and open up the world of Russia's underground electronic scene. The new vinyl release is a collection of original works by the highly experienced Kaluga-based music producer Chivee Gres. The record perfectly showcases the sound of Deep House and Jackin, showcasing Nikita's subtle sampling, masterful arrangement, and deep knowledge of production techniques. This music is made for the dancefloor: Side A is the perfect companion to any warmap, while Side B will brighten up primetime with its bouncy sound.

From new beat and electro to techno and synthwave, Night Prologue carves out the Panthers on Wax identity, nocturnal, hybrid, and driven by narrative.

(make of that what you will). FIG DISH were four high school friends: guitarists/ vocalists Rick Ness and Blake Smith, bassist/ vocalist Mike Willison, and drummer Andy Hamilton. In their day (a day that began in the late Winter of 1991 and ended in the early summer of 1998), they were known for catchy songs, memorable (often booze-fueled) live shows, and self-sabotage. In July 1995, FIG DISH's debut That's What Love Songs Often Do was released. And just like that, the band was catapulted from regional obscurity into national obscurity. MTV played the video for the band's first single, "Seeds" and FIG DISH toured the U.S. and Canada relentlessly with bands like Veruca Salt, The Muffs, Letters to Cleo, Juliana Hatfield, Local H, and The Rentals. In 1997, their sophomore album When Shove Goes Back To Push , was sunk by a risque music video for the single "When Shirts Get Tight" Featuring adult film stars that MTV refused to play and the band was dropped by an indifferent Polygram Records in the summer of 1998. FIG DISH returned from hibernation in 2024 with two sold out shows in Chicago and the release of Feels Like The Very First Two Times, the band's first "new" release in 27 years, collecting unreleased tracks recorded in the late 90s. On August 1, 2025, Forge Again Records reissued That's What Love Songs Often Do on vinyl for the first time, 30 years after the original CD release. The officially licensed 2xLP features white vinyl, reworked gatefold jacket art by Wall of Youth and vinyl mastering by Carl Saff. FIG DISH celebrated the 2025 re-release with live shows in Chicago and Milwaukee with old tour-mates Letters to Cleo and capped off the year with shows in Kenosha and Chicago with Local H and Fountains of Wayne.

It's a wild tribute to the chain- smoking Moto- Man from 1938 -- a character with so much hubris, he makes HAL 9000 look like a bundle of anxious circuits. On the A- side, "Elektro Returns" blasts off as a Clavioline- driven stomper with a bouncy beat and feverish chord changes. Think JEAN JACQUES PERREY on a bad LSD trip. On the other side, "I Am Elektro '25", reinvents their 2019 track of the same name. This fuzz- drenched pounder could have made THE VENTURES' Nokie Edwards wish he'd been built as a robot! Back from the future and outta space - LES ROBOTS return from their intergalactic journey! Moog on!

Kanyon (John) is a NYC based producer/dj who has cut his teeth in the underground US techno scene through raw live sets, and dynamic djing. Keeping the quality high with his signature no-bs style of production and performing, he has played live supporting legends like Steve Poindexter, DJ Hyperactive, and Francois K. His productions have garnered support from Ben Sims, Akua, Ron Like Hell, Kush Jones and many others.

The Duplex EP is a split record featuring John's house alias DJ John Brooklyn on the A side (A1, A2, locked groove) & techno alias Kanyon on the B side (B1, B2). Exploring NY house and trippy, dubby minimal techno respectively, Duplex EP is a heady start to 2026.

Es ist durchaus eine kleine Sensation, dass dieser Tage ein weiteres MORBID SAINT-Album erscheint, also mehr als 30 Jahre, nachdem ihre zweite LP „Destruction System“ aufgenommen, aber bis zu ihrer offiziellen Veröffentlichung vor kurzem nicht fertiggestellt worden war. Allerdings war die Aussicht, neue Musik in ihrem einzigartigen Death/Thrash-Metal-Stil zu schreiben, einer der Hauptgründe dafür, dass sich die Kernmitglieder 2010 überhaupt wieder vereinten. Während ihrer ersten aktiven Phase von 1984 bis ’94 konnte die Band ihr Potenzial längst nicht ausschöpfen, insbesondere im Hinblick auf ihre bahnbrechende erste Platte „Spectrum of Death“ (1990). Das neue Werk entstand im kreativen Fernaustausch, wobei sich alle Mitglieder gegenseitig Ideen zuspielten, um ein Breitseite aus zehn Extrem-Metal-Tracks abzufeuern, wie man sie heute kaum mehr hört – absolut verheerend und doch musikalisch anspruchsvoll, Grenzen überschreitend, aber nicht auf Teufel komm raus, und abgerundet von einem Artwork des legendären Ed Repka (Death, Megadeth). „Swallowed By Hell“ wurde von Chris Djuricic (Num Skull, Disinter) im The Belle City Sound Company aufgenommen und erhielt den letzten Schliff von Scott Elliott in den Chernobyl Studios. Es riecht nach alter Schule, steht aber mit beiden Beinen im Hier und Jetzt.

Im Gegensatz zu den früheren Alben der Lost Boys, die innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitraums produziert wurden, entstand „Pale Bloom“ langsam und versuchte, einen Schöpfungsmythos in seinem Bernstein einzufrieren – eine Ursprungsgeschichte, die uralt und komplex ist, voller Geheimnisse und Metaphern, die weder einer Klärung noch eines Endes bedarf. Jede Veröffentlichung der Lost Boys wagt sich in neues musikalisches und lyrisches Terrain vor. Von allen greift „Pale Bloom“ am weitesten zurück in die Kindheit und findet unbewusst die Rhythmen und Erzählstile, die in den Zwängen einer religiösen Erziehung verwurzelt sind. Beim Durchforsten der vergessenen Akkorde, Refrains und Melodien aus alten Kinderreimen und Volksliedern entdeckten sie den Wunsch, diese überlieferten Klänge in Richtung persönlicherer Wahrheiten zu verändern. Dieser Impuls ist auf dem gesamten Album präsent und in Krugers ebenso klangvoller wie euphorischer Stimme zu hören, wenn sie die verschiedenen lyrischen Formen um ihre eigene Sehnsucht, Trauer und Begierde herumlegt und sie darauf vorbereitet, in der üppigen und großzügigen Subversion der erinnerten Rhythmen der Band zu landen. Im Gegensatz zu ihrem Auftritt auf „Heaving“ und „A Human Home“ sind die Streicher hier weniger affektiert und haben einen eher düsteren und ernsten Charakter angenommen. Sie streben nach einer komplexen Art von Himmel, der durch das Gewicht und die Bodenständigkeit der Grooves ermöglicht wird, die sowohl stoisch als auch ausdrucksstark sind. Die Gitarren bewegen sich frei zwischen weitläufigen, voluminösen Räumen und sind ebenso knirschend wie sanft. Mess Esque are a duo featuring music and instruments by Mick Turner
and words and voice by Helen Franzmann. Their self-titled album is a
beguiling travelogue of restless, somnambulant wanderings.
Perhaps best known as one of the Dirty Three, Mick’s been playing
guitar and making music with many collaborators for forty years. He’s
loved his paintings too but revered especially for his solo music - since
1997, Drag City have released four of his albums, plus an EP and an
album of the Tren Brothers (Mick with percussionist and fellow Dirty
Three-ite, Jim White) and two EPs featuring Mick as the Marquis de Tren
with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.
Mick’s last record was 2013’s ‘Don’t Tell the Driver’, a work that found
him departing from his traditional hermetic instrumental template by
employing a rhythm section and brass charts and even collaborating with
a vocalist. After all the purely instrumental music he’s made with Dirty
Three and solo, a singer is now part of the sound he’s hearing in his
head these days; while demoing new material, he realized that he was
again writing music that needed lyrics - and for that matter, someone
other than himself to sing them. But who? In 2019, he was introduced to
Helen through a mutual friend who’d produced her last album. Under the
name Mckisko, Helen has released three albums over the past 12 years,
working and touring with a range of Australian musicians along the way.
Her music has been described as numinous and transformative. Her
most recent album, ‘Southerly’, saw her moving into a more expansive
sound which led to an openness and excitement around further
collaboration.
Helen’s words are carefully observed, her phrasing responding intuitively
to Mick’s looping guitar figures with vocal repetitions of her own. Starting
with a feeling or a voicing, there are often no words - both players are
searching on their own paths. Then suddenly they have arrived and are
passing the emerging meaning back and forth, the rising intensity
forming a kind of undertow that pulls the listener deeper into their world.
Often, Helen would record her vocals in the middle of the night, seeking
that 2am flow, a moment of greatest isolation through which to trace her
melodie with fragility and strength. This crystallizes Mess Esque’s
intention: riding the sleepy drift through the blurred edges of the day…
time-traveling to that moment beyond stasis where sense and no sense
coincide and share space and time and energy. Viewing from afar the
immense peace of this planet when its ghost world of spirits below - the
madness of crowds, people sliding past each other faraway in the night -
are quieted at last.

Pablo Bozzi returns to Jennifer Cardini's Dischi Autunno with a follow up record to the 'Last Moscow Mule' EP from 2020. The six track EP 'Ghost Of Chance' marks a deepening from the previous forays into the Italo Disco & Synthwave influenced sound Bozzi has previously explored. With a heavy hand in the realm of nostalgia Bozzi expertly weaves melody through drum machine loops, the track comes to a climax with longing vocals reminiscent of 80s new wave and goth dance clubs. Although steeped in the nostalgia of time gone he manages to lend a modern production, a cleanness of sound that never stays too long in the past.

It’s been some time since Jon Sable’s last release on In Dust We Trust, the label he runs with Chaos in the CBD. This three-track EP delivers exactly what you’d expect — focused deep house cuts that explore different textures and grooves.

The A-side title track Imperfect Circuit offers a dubby, rolling groove, combining loose percussion with textured stabs and a steady bassline. On the B-side, Heads Up brings warmer pads and a more solid, thumping low end for a grounded feel. Closing the record, People Person centers on a gritty, groove-driven drum pattern with a raw, rhythmic focus.

A concise, well-crafted release for late-night and deeper sets.

Maazn returns for its second release, Day Walker EP, featuring prolific French producer BOOH. Co-founder of BOOOoo! Records, alongside his sister Bousti, BOOH has taken a different direction for Day Walker EP, carefully crafting a unique balance between light and darkness. Electro leaning robotic vocoder samples and thumping basslines dominate the A side, with both Consequence and Magnetic System prepped to test the limits of any soundsystem.

The B-side follows a similar, but more introspective style, with title track Day Walker's slower pace and earworm synths more suited to hazey afters in forgotten corners. Kiss Me Goodbye closes out the EP with funk tinged acoustic bass sounds, married to driving EBM style drums that will even get your grandmother up and out of the chair.

Haven Trax welcomes a standout 12" from Dutch mainstay Michel de Hey. On the A-side, he delivers a warm and rolling house cut with a catchy piano melody, featuring the soulful vocals of Michael Sebastian -- a track that blends depth and emotion with undeniable floor appeal. The B-side sees Michel join forces with Orlando Voorn for a rawer, more stripped-back club workout. Two generations of Dutch electronic music finding common ground in groove, texture, and timeless dancefloor energy.

AGT Records are back for number 008 and the smoke machine is on full blast.

Christian Llopis put out a handful of releases in the early 2000’s, each capturing the progressive machine-groove of the time, but with his own signature twist and turn that made his sound stand apart from his contemporaries. The Lobster Tan EP, first released in 2005 on Play. Out. Right. Now. Recordings, shows offhis unique style perfectly.

Each track has its own distinct personality while maintaining a relentless momentum that throws each kick drum into the next. The title track ‘Lobster Tan’ has an almost elastic groove in the low end, balanced deftly with swirling samples and melody lines. ‘Simulation’ is a more heady offering, perfect for those late night/ early morning moments where the heads are down and the lights are low. The
mood is sinister, and its growling bassline and vocal samples barrel the tune forwards. Pick of the bunch is ‘Back in the Day’, a tribal roller that combines organic melody lines and pads with an ever-evolving bassline that will refresh any discerning dance floor back into life.

Llopis is an expert at keeping things subtle while moving the gears, and this release is a prime example of prog done right. We are happy to have this one back on the shelves, all in good time.

CYRK Relaunches Time Zero with a High-Voltage Return to Electro Berlin-based duo CYRK proudly announce the relaunch of their Time Zero imprint, marking the occasion with a striking new release that dives head-first back into their electro roots. The EP showcases three tracks of pure electronic funk, delivered with the razor-sharp production and futuristic flair that has come to define the project. Adding a further layer of intrigue, the record includes a remix from the enigmatic producer Client_03, whose identity remains one of electronic music's most compelling mysteries. Their reinterpretation pushes the release into even deeper machine-funk territory, rounding out a package that reaffirms CYRK's command of the genre. With the rebirth of Time Zero, CYRK signal a new chapter--one that celebrates their unmistakable sound while looking boldly toward the future.

Group Rhoda returns to Dark Entries with Phase 5, a new LP of synthesizer-driven art-pop. An integral member of the West Coast electronic music scene, Mara Barenbaum has been writing, performing, and plunging into oneiric depths as Group Rhoda since 2009. Barenbaum’s songcraft is at once stylistically diffuse and laser-focused, a synesthetic approach that allows her to effortlessly glide between genres and soundworlds while centering her singular poetics. On Phase 5, her fifth LP as Group Rhoda, we find Barenbaum waxing nondualistic. Lines between fairytale and fact, between nature and art, between subject and object all dissolve under contemplation.

The songs on Phase 5 are perpetually in-between states, deftly shifting form at the blink of an eye. With sleight of hand, “Field Tone” transmutes from brooding John Carpenter-esque electro into vocoder-driven space disco. “Dragon Pine” darts from cosmic dub to cybernetic dancehall and back again. The uptempo darkwave-leaning number “Aeolian Crossing” dissolves into the void, like sand falling through one’s fingers, like a retreating wave. The cover artwork for Phase 5 is by Shawn Reed, and features purple lilies and light refracted through water. All songs on this album were mastered by Ruud Lekx. The digital version of Phase 5 will be released via Katabatik, a label and sound system that Barenbaum has had close ties to for the past decade.

After nearly five decades of relentless innovation, Truus de Groot's Plus Instruments project shows no signs of slowing down. The ninth album, Unnoticed, finds the `dutch Pioneer diving deeper into the experimental synthesiser palette than ever before, delivering 12 tracks of minimalist, analogue noise and her signature vocals.

Recorded at The Ranch in Escondido, Unnoticed showcases her continued evolution as an artist. Often referred to as the "Queen of the Dutch Underground," de Groot has is a stalwart of the experimental underground music scene since establishing Plus Instruments in 1978 in Eindhoven. Her journey has taken her from the punk rock explosion of the late '70s Netherlands to the No Wave scene of early '80s New York.

The Plus Instruments project has always been characterised by its ever changing nature and collaborative spirit. She has worked with an impressive roster of artists over the years , spanning continents and genres, including James Sclavunos (Nick Cave), Jim Duckworth (Gun Club), most recently, Miguel Barella and Cosmo Vitelli, who co-writes, produces and adds programming to standout track "Sexy Machine." This creative partnership has opened new avenues for de Groot's explorations, as she continues to plough yet another field of creativity.

Now based back in the Netherlands, she continues her work while maintaining the core elements that have made Plus Instruments a touchstone for electronic music innovators. Her influence can be heard in everything from Electroclash to Cold Wave, with younger artists regularly seeking collaboration with the veteran experimentalist. Unnoticed arrives as de Groot enters her sixth decade of music-making, proving that true artistic vision only grows stronger with time.

Hania Rani is a pianist, composer and musician who splits her life between Warsaw, where she makes her home, and Berlin where she studied and often works. She has written for strings, piano, voice and electronics and has collaborated with the likes of Christian Löffler, Dobrawa Czocher and Hior Chronik, and released an album with her Polish group teskno last year. She has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe - from the National Philharmony in Warsaw, to Funkhaus in Berlin, to The Roundhouse in London (where she made her debut at the Gondwana 10thanniversary festival last October) and at festivals such as Open'er, Scope Festival and Eurosonic. Her compositions for solo piano were born out of a fascination with the piano as an instrument, and her desire to interpret its sound and harmonic possibilities in their entirety and in her own way.

Esja is her debut solo album and for Rani it is her first, real, personal statement as an artist. "No hiding behind the "collaborations" or "projects" anymore. For the very first time, finally - just me, as I am".

Recorded at Rani's apartment in Warsaw (the piano room has a beautiful reverb and the space has become part art studio and part sound laboratory for Rani) and at her friend Bergur Þórisson'sstudio in Reykjavik, Esja is a series of beautiful melodic vignettes. Sensual, sensitive, rhythmic, atmospheric, free but harmonious, beguiling and hypnotic, collectively they project a sense of unlimited space and time.

Rising talent of the Frankfurt scene, Kuyateh joins the Jisul Family with four tracks that cut to the heart of the label's signature sound.

Under a sky of short days and long nights, Notta Records from Finland unveils Dog Sleep, a deeply immersive EP by Cyclic/Random. Known for crafting slow-burning, atmospheric excursions at the intersection of dub techno and deep, dubbed-out house, Cyclic/Random extends the labels mission of a warm, hypnotic winter soundtrack.
Across the EP, soft-focus chords drift like snow over steady, smoked-out grooves, basslines pulse with understated weight, and echoes curl around the edges of the stereo field. These are tracks built for long, nocturnal sessions, the moments when the outside world is frozen and the dancefloor feels like a shelter. Dog Sleep is intimate yet expansive, perfectly tailored for winter: crackling dub house, deep dub techno and distant ambient textures that invite you to slow down, sink in and dream with your eyes open.

Finnish dub-techno craftsman TM Shuffle, head of Vuo Records, resurfaces with a deep and distilled EP that goes straight for the late-night heart of the dancefloor. Rooted in Tampere’s raw, analog dub sound, his productions have long balanced weight and warmth, smoked-out chords, rolling low-end and subtle shuffle that keeps the groove in constant motion.
The lead track “Kellari” dives into basement mode: pressure-cooker drums, slow-burning stabs and a humid, lived-in atmosphere that feels equally at home on a huge system or in headphones at 4 a.m. On the second original cut, TM Shuffle links up once again with long-time collaborator Monoder, the alias of Jussi-Pekka Parikka, known for his dubbed-out explorations on labels like Statik Entertainment and Pakkas-Levyt since the early 2000s. Their joint track stretches time, letting echo, tape hiss and distant melodic fragments float around a rock-solid groove, channelling years of shared studio language into one focused, hypnotic flow.
On the flip, Anton Kubikov (SCSI-9) steps in with a lush reinterpretation of Kellari. A true Russian techno veteran with a catalog that spans Kompakt, Force Tracks, Mayak and beyond, Kubikov melts the original into a widescreen, dream-state trip, soft-focus pads, gentle yet insistent percussion and that unmistakable rolling pulse that made his work so enduring. The remix doesn’t just extend the track; it opens a new dimension, turning the basement pressure into a slow-rising, celestial drift.
Pressed on limited coloured vinyl, this EP is built for selectors who like their dub techno deep, human and timeless, a record that will quietly live in bags for years and keep resurfacing whenever the room calls for true late-night elevation.

Drumcomplex & Frank Sonic open their world once again, but this time they let others walk through the same shadows. How better to solidify over a year of meteoric rise than with the release of a debut EP? dublon is both the phenomenon of the moment and one of the most promising prospects for a lasting career in the electronic scene. The Norwegian producer has teamed up with top-tier musicians (saxophonists, pianists) to blend organic craftsmanship with his incredible electronic touch. He has also collaborated with respected and renowned artists like Tour-Maubourg, TABLE, and the incredible American singer Deza to bring this project to life.

The result is Nectar, an EP that balances touching elegance with an insatiable urge to dance to its uplifting rhythms. dublon and his Jazz-House sound are set to keep us moving all year long.

DC10 remains one of the most authentic clubbing experiences on the White Isle. It has different golden eras depending on your age, but for minimal lovers, that was 15 years ago, when you would get the likes of Romanina outfit a:rpia:r doing a cult b4b with Ricardo Villalobos. That's the vibe these new edits are going for from the Sorry We Play Vinyl label. 'EDIT4' is all wonky rhythms and twisted synthetic sounds and rising sine waves with chopped vocal fragments. 'EDIT5' is dubby house scattered with congas and 'EDIT6' is a more light and soulful sound for the early morning session with funky guitar twangs and skeletal rhythms locking you in for the duration.

Monsieur Van Pratt is one of the leaders of the edit game and his Illegal Disco is all the proof you need. This latest drop finds him tap into vintage Japanese rare grooves and flip them with his signature style. 'Space Scrapper' is up first and is the sort of comic cut that will have you wide-eyed as it reworks a celebrated Japanese musician and vocalist. 'Time Machine' is a big, stomping disco cut with rubbery bass riffs and Japanese city pop vocals riding next to cursing synths. It's a bright but steamy sound for when things really heat up. Last but not least is another showstopper with 'Feel So Fine' layering wispy cosmic melodies with cool-as-you-like disco drums and carefree vocals. Lovely stuff.

Hearts and Minds is a new vinyl-only label founded in 2025 by house-head Rich Carrick, named after his Northern UK club night of the same name (co-founded with DJ partner Rayees), and dedicated to showcasing the finest underground artists old and new who have influenced him over the past 30 years. First up is a hero of the scene who carries on his tradition of making 'sublime, sophisticated machine music' with something a little different, in the form of two deep chuggers that will sound equally as good on more discerning dance floors, or on home systems. Lead track 'Acid Cry' brings to mind the menacing, string-laden intensity of Underworld's 'Dark and Long', while the flip-side 'Feel That Vibration' is an uplifting euphonic workout reminiscent of a Spirit Catcher composition. The quality is, unsurprisingly, high, and there are more exciting releases planned for the near future. Definitely one to watch!

The Miso label from Charles Webster was right at the heart of turn-of-the-millennium house and tech. It's very focused output has a signature sound that's soulful and deft, with great remixes making each package a varied and vital treat for real connoisseurs of back room sounds. This one from Nutty feat Daddy is a tribal tinged and Afro-leaning affair with swirling vocals and a mysterious allure. The dubby drums on the Mbuso remix are a delight, then the Brooks mix gets more wet and cavernous. The Charles Webster dub is full of shakers and aquatic sounds, cheeky and supple chords and endless depth. The Vincenzo mix closes with a more upright groove.

Soul-Funk-Disco-grail officially reissued for the first time by Backatcha Records. Recorded and released in 1981, Stars' core line-up consisted of the musicians from Aura (‘Freex’, ‘Last Stop’, and ‘Sunshine Love’). “Stars was a band name and not a band”, explains keyboard player Steven Young. It was a studio group made up of mostly players from their neighbourhood band Hooker in Corona, Queens, that’d performed on the New York live circuit since the early 1970s. At the helm of Starbase Sounds was the Cadle Brothers trio: producer Ray Cadle, bassist Jules Cadle, and an older brother as financial backer, leading to the creation of the short-lived Starbase Sounds label. It released a total of four singles, including this rare 45 bomb, and three previous singles from The Freex Machine and Aura, all equally prized and sought after, and all reissued for the first time by Backatcha Records.

NINJAZZY" unfolds as a deep, subtle, and versatile narrative. The title is no coincidence: like sonic ninjas, the producers act with silent precision, delivering a work of elegant sobriety and creative audacity, blending deep house, atmospheric dub, and introspective minimalism.

Força Maior combines the vital saxophone explorations of Pedro Alves Sousa with the infinitely subtle electronic processing of Pedro Tavares. Sousa (aka Má Estrela) is known for manipulating his woodwind through guitar pedalboards & amplifiers, creating far-from-ordinary sonics rooted in unceasing curiosity. For his part, Tavares (aka funcionário) conjoins video & sound work to create space for the pensive wanderings where memory and imagination interlace.

The album Morte Lilás was recorded over a week in June 2023 in Pedro Alves Sousa's family farm, located in the village of Ferreirim, near Lamego, in Portugal. The partly abandoned farm served as the residency, studio, and inspiration for the album: it is a 400-year-old granite farm that belonged to a member of the "40 conspirators"—a group that led the revolution for Portugal's independence from Spain in the 17th century.

Morte Lilás is a remarkable album of committed meditation. Each day on the farm was a recording day for the two Pedros: Sousa on sax & electronics, Tavares on sampler & processing. Apart from slight sonic incursions from the surrounds—the birds on 'Quinta à tarde'—and the sporadic use of sine tones, the source sounds all start from the saxophone. It is then processed both by Sousa & Tavares. The album unfolds as a saxophonic tapestry that breathes with quiet intensity. Each piece invites close listening, revealing fine gestures and tonal shifts that shape a contemplative, ambient space. Força Maior move with calm precision.

The album opens with the unhurried overture 'Quinta à Tarde' a Portuguese pun on Eno's Thursday Afternoon that announces the textures at play. Sousa's breathy entrance is paired with a soft, delicately shifting, backdrop. As the track progresses, time seems to stretch. The arrangement resists urgency, favouring subtle evolution over dramatic turns. Pensive layers shift & drift, creating a sense of suspended motion that brings the listener into the environs of Morte Lilás. 'Quinta à Tarde' is a long-form fade, shifting emphasis from Sousa to Tavares.

'Cubos' continues the gauzy feel, but with a more up-tempo tilt. Rhythmic clicks & pings setup a swung time for the sax to interpose melodic lines that are fed back & bent with cascading delays. Força Maior in distilled form.

What follows is a return to the album's more relaxed architecture: understated rhythms, softened textures, and a sense of spaciousness that opens space for reflection. It is a transition that feels organic, as if the song itself needed to exhale before settling back into its contemplative groove.

'Menta' is another short-form miniature of the band's signature contours: beautiful loops of air pressure gradients that carry an emotive weight & light.

The album closes with 'Cascata do Inferno'. The title suggests violence, but the music whispers instead—an atmospheric cascade of breath & tone that emerges in slow, deliberate waves. Short melodic cycles are matched by shimmering electronic chords. i feel the modern concert film is a matriarchially friendly construct , welcomed in the current climate . where female musicians can share their worlds uncorrupted . in cornucopia , i was joined by musical director and multi instrumentalist bergur þórisson , percussionist manu delago , flute septet Viibra , harpist katie buckley and the hamrahlid choir .

i spent last decade working with 360-degree sound and visual software in virtual reality and animation, creating Biophilia and later Vulnicura as a VR album . i was deeply inspired by the idea of a fully-immersive experience spreading Utopia and Fossora into fully surround speakers . my intention was to bring what we had created for 21st-century VR into a 19th-century theatre - taking it from the headset to the stage .

this vision was realised with 27 moving curtains that captured projections on different textures and LED screens , creating a digitally animated show : a "modern lanterna magica" for live music . i also wanted to feature bespoke instruments: a magnetic harp , an aluphone , a circular flute , and a reverb chamber , specially built with an audio architect to enhance the most intimate version of a performance—in a personal chapel .

throughout this tale, there is a subplot woven in : a second story of an avatar—a modern marionette who alchemically mutates , from puppet to puppet , from the injury of a heart wound to a fully healed state . i hope you enjoy it . warmness , björk

ATA Records are proud to present the new release by Work Money Death, A Portal to Here. This album continues WMD’s exploration of Spiritual Jazz and the sounds and styles that evolved out of the 60s New Thing, particularly the recordings of

Alice Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders. The first WMD album released since the tragic death of ATA guitarist Chris Earl Dawkins in early 2025, all four tracks reference the journey that band members and the studio have been on – in many ways this record is a testament and tribute to Chris, his musicality and creativity.

Featuring WMD stalwarts Tony Burkill, Neil Innes, Sam Hobbs, and Sam Bell, the album introduces Sorcererskeyboardist Johnny Richards to the WMD sound. Richards brings a fresh new take to the piano role here, drawing on what is clearly a broad knowledge of jazz history and channelling that through his own unique 21st century musical perspective.

The album also features contributions from Alice Roberts on harp, bringing the spirit of Alice Coltrane, Ben Powling on baritone saxophone, Richard Ormrod on woodwind, and Kev Holbrough & Steve Parry on brass. Those Sun Ra-esque horn sections lift the mood whenever they appear.Standout tracks are the second, Dance of the Spirits, with a strong core of Baptism and The Blues and some lovely playing by Richards, and the third track, Brother Earl, which begins with Tony on flute over rhythms that are directly reminiscent of open-hearted, late-60s spirituality. Tony later moves to tenor and, as on all four tracks here, eventually builds to the peaks of shattering emotional intensity that fans of Work Money Death - and spiritual jazz in general - love.

‘BLACKFONDUISM’ captures that evolution in its rawest form. The EP came together quickly through instinct and freestyling, recorded between his room in London and a short period in Paris. Haf is the third album from Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 in little over a year, no mean feat in and of itself but especially considering Carwyn’s work with other artists (including Edwyn Collins and the North Mississippi Allstars) this year too.

The album picks up where their last (Fontana Rosa) left off, with around half the album being recorded analog to tape at Gizzard Studios in London, with one last tune remaining from their sessions at the legendary (but now closed) Toerag Studios.

There are echoes here of their first album, Joia! - the recordings were once again instigated by the great Brazilian producer and multi-instrumentalist who happened to be visiting London earlier in the year. He suggested doing something.... so they did. And there is a return to more definite Brazilian influences too - Tonnau Ar Tonnau is an homage to ‘Onda’ by Cassiano, Keep On Smiling has a distinct samba / chorro feel. Gwenyn y Gwanwyn (about helping a bee out if you see it struggling) is very much a nod to the psychedelic samba funk of Antonio Carlos e Jocafi. But other Latin styles still loom large: on the sultry salsa of Bella Estrella or the melancholic Andean ballad, Lagrimas Frias.

Anglo-Brazilian singer Nina Miranda features on the Lalo Schifrin goes samba Shades of Red, while new addition to the Rio 18 family (at least on record), Miriam Isaac adds a real RnB edge to the record, along with some beautiful duets: the Salsoul banger Como Te Amo and the gorgeous Whistling Sands (about a beach in North Wales) are standouts.

In reverse to how Carwyn made the first two Rio 18 albums, Haf was recorded in London
and Wales and mixed over five hectic days in Rio. Three days later, it was mastered and at
the pressing plant. Time doesn’t wait for Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18!!

Finally, the song ‘Haf’ and the album itself are dedicated to Haf Morris, Carwyn’s late music teacher - he says, “her focus, guidance and patience shaped me like no other. I hope she’s enjoyed my musical journey, from wherever she’s watching. Diolch, Haf”.

Auf seinem neuen Album "Chopin Orbit" eröffnet Piano-Shootingstar Hayato Sumino einen ganz eigenen musikalisch Kosmos rund um den berühmten Komponisten Auf dem konzeptionell vielfältigen und emotional bewegenden Album, stellt der weltweit gefeierte japanische Pianist und Komponist Hayato Sumino (alias "Cateen") die Musik von Frédéric Chopin in den Mittelpunkt und baut seinen ganzen eigenen musikalischen Kosmos darum auf. Frédéric Chopin, der zu Hayato Suminos Lieblingskomponisten gehört, ist seit Langem eine treibende Kraft in dessen künstlerischen Leben. Diese Verbindung wurde erstmals während seiner vielbeachteten Auftritte beim Internationalen Chopin-Wettbewerb 2021 deutlich und kommt nun in "Chopin Orbit" voll zur Geltung. Zum Programm gehören Chopins Polonaise-Fantasie op. 61, Nocturne Nr. 20 in cis-Moll, Berceuse Des-Dur op. 57 und das "Regentropfen"-Prélude op. 28 Nr. 15. Daneben stellt Hayato Sumino eigene Werke wie "White Keys" und "Post Rain", als auch Stücke von so unterschiedlichen Komponisten wie Thomas Adès, Leopold Godowsky und Leoš Janáček, die Chopins Einfluss über Generationen hinweg unterstreichen. Hayato Sumino erklärt dazu: "Für mich war Chopin schon immer wie ein Idol, und seine Musik liegt mir seit meiner Kindheit sehr am Herzen. Als ich mich als Musiker weiterentwickelte, wurde mir bewusst, wie natürlich sein Einfluss in meine eigenen Kompositionen einfloss. Irgendwann dachte ich mir: Warum nicht ein Album mit Chopin als Mittelpunkt aufnehmen? Dieser Moment war der Ausgangspunkt für dieses Projekt.
