Das zehnte Solo-Album von Mathias Schaffhäuser heißt „Singing
About It“ und der Titel ist Programm – hier wird gesungen. Und zwar
auf fast jedem Song, und wenn nicht, dann wird wenigstens
gesprochen. Das gab es auf noch keinem Album des Wahl-Kölners.
Zwar kennt man Mathias in erster Linie als Produzent von Minimal-,
Techno- und House-Tracks, allerdings gab es auf fast allen seiner
Alben auch Stücke mit Gesang, die sich gerade in den letzten Jahren
stilistisch den Tracks auf „Singing About iti" annäherten. Der
wirkliche Unterschied zu dem, was Schaffhäuser in den letzten
dreißig Jahren veröffentlicht hat, ist die Songform, die allen Stücken
auf dem neuen Album gemeinsam ist. „Singing About It“ wurde nicht
für den Dancefloor produziert, auch wenn einige Stücke dort
durchaus eine gute Figur machen dürften.
Letztlich war der Spaß am Singen die Triebfeder hinter „Singing
About It“. Und da die Tanzfläche nicht im Fokus stand, konnten sich
auch Club-ferne Einflüsse aus experimenteller Elektronika,
verschmitztem Pop und sogar Blues und Prog-Rock mehr Raum
freischaufeln.

The Modbirds kombinieren souligen Ska und mitreißenden Punk. Obwohl sie erst 2023 gegründet wurden, bringen sie mit Mitgliedern von Los Placebos und The Porters einen reichen Schatz an Bühnenerfahrung mit. Ihr Live-Debüt bei "Ska im Westend" in Dortmund hat sofort gezeigt, dass sie gekommen sind, um zu bleiben. Jeden Frühling kehren die Zugvögel aus ihren Winterquartieren zurück! Also aufgepasst, denn auch die Modbirds sind im Anflug mit ihrer ersten Mini-LP "Spin it to win it". (Release Date 25.04.25) Mit ihrem musikalischen Mix aus Ska, Reggae und Punk feiert die Band in fünf Songs verteilt auf zwei Seiten ihre Liebe zum Vinyl, lässt vergangene Jugendlieben aufleben und schwelgt in den Erinnerungen an unbeschwerte Zeiten. Getrieben von druckvollen Bläsern, eingängigen Melodien und dem tanzbaren Offbeat werden aber auch gesellschaftliche Missstände oder das Thema mentale Gesundheit besungen. One of the most iconic labels in house music made a major return in 2024. King Street Sounds is celebrating its legacy with a series of re-releases that dive into its extensive back catalogue, showcasing some of its biggest releases. One of these being Dennis Ferrer’s iconic debut solo album The World As I See It from 2006. A body of work that sounds as good today as it did 19 years ago and, in that time, has gone on to become one of the greatest house music albums of the last 25 years. This release will be the first time all ten tracks from the album have been included in one vinyl package, and will include a frameable, double sided record sleeve sized poster. With copies of previous editions of the album costing close to £100 on the second-hand market, this limited sky blue vinyl edition will give a new generation of house & electronic music fans an opportunity to own this piece of dance music history.

Das fünfte, den Durchbruch für Evan Dando bringende, Lemonheads-Album 'It's A Shame About Ray', wird zum 33-jährigen Jubiläum wieder als Single Vinyl in klassisch schwarz mit der Original-Tracklist nachgepresst (mit Download Card für die zusätzlichen Bonustracks der Deluxe Edition von 2022). Beschrieben von Musikjournalist und Autor Everett True als "Ein 30-minütiger Einblick in das, was es heißt, hart und schnell und locker und glücklich mit gleichgesinnten Kumpels zu leben, angetrieben von einer gemeinsamen Liebe zu ähnlichen Bands und Drogen und Alkohol und Freiheit". It's A Shame About Ray" hatte in jenen berauschenden, sorglosen Tagen des Jahres '92 eine beträchtliche Wirkung. Die Platte fängt perfekt Dandos Fähigkeit ein, die Sehnsucht und Lust der Teenager mühelos in einem zweiminütigen Popsong zu verpacken. Singles wie "My Drug Buddy" und der luftig-perfekte Pop des Titeltracks mögen herausstechen, aber die eigentliche Stärke des Albums liegt in den Tracks dazwischen; das wirklich fantastische 'Confetti' (über die Scheidung von Evans Eltern) und die atemberaubend lässige Akustik-Coverversion von 'Frank Mills' (aus dem Hippie-Musical Hair), eine Version, in der jedes Quäntchen Pathos und Gefühl für die verlorene Generation der 1960er mitzuschwingen scheint. Wenn Evan Dando Zeilen wie "I love him/but it embarrasses me/To walk down the street with him/He lives in Brooklyn somewhere/And he wears his white crash helmet" singt, weiß man erst richtig zu schätzen, wie wunderbar und verlockend Popmusik sein kann. Und dann gibt es da noch den Ansturm von Aufsässigkeit und Unverfrorenheit im wunderbar verkürzten 'Bit Part'; das aufgedrehte 'Ceiling Fan In My Spoon'... das war Jungs/Teenager-Popmusik mit Stil auf einem Niveau mit The Kinks, den frühen Undertones und den Wipers. Colemine Records is excited to put out their first 45 with The Charities, a sweet-soul band out of sunny California. The group's sound is a melting pot of cultures, exhibiting a mix of soul, r&b, rock, and funk. The A-side of this 45, 'Fatal Attraction,' explores just that. In some relationships, the very qualities that draw you in can also lead to your destruction. She's captivating_beautiful, intelligent, and charming_but beneath the surface, she's narcissistic and self-centered, with no regard for the pain she causes. When you're lost in the intensity of love, it's easy to overlook these darker traits. But when the time comes for her to move on, she'll strike without hesitation, delivering a blow that cuts deep. Her words, sharp as a knife, tear through your heart with cold precision. As you bleed out, she offers nothing but a final, indifferent goodbye...."It's Not Our Time," on the B, tells the story of two lovers who find themselves at a crossroads, torn apart by the struggles they face in this chapter of their lives. Perhaps in the future, they'll rekindle their love and spark a new flame_one that burns even brighter then before. A reggae cover of Marvin Gaye's '60s soul classic and The Police's '80s hit!

Australia's reggae dub unit, Springtones, has reimagined two massive hits from Marvin Gaye and The Police through the lens of reggae fusion and dubwise, now released on a 7-inch vinyl!

Side A features a dubby and masterful cover of Marvin Gaye's 1967 soul classic, "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," with vocals by Gayl, brought to life by the Springtones. Side B showcases "Walking On The Moon," The Police's 1979 smash hit, covered by drummer Dubbin' Darryl?renowned for his unique reggae sound infused with funky soul?alongside the Springtones and Jamaican vocalist Noya. This track blends dubbed-out horns, deep electro basslines, and Noya's ethereal vocals in perfect harmony. The artwork, which pays homage to the Japanese edition of Marvin Gaye's singles, is also a must-see!

"Try It' was the first of just four singles that London-based quintet The Attack released in their brief but brilliant career, and the only one to feature original drummer Alan Whitehead, who left shortly after this to join Marmalade. The A-side was also recorded by acclaimed US Garage Rock band The Standells, but it is the self-written Hammond organ driven B-Side 'We Don't Know' that gets fans of great '60s Pop excited, which might explain why they are willing to pay £300 for an original copy. Guitarist and singer Davy O'List left The Attack a few months later, and had a brief spell deputising for Syd Barrett in Pink Floyd, before forming The Nice with keyboard player Keith Emerson.

Do It With Soul is back with another healthy dose of dancefloor fun featuring a pair of well-executed new edits. On the A-side of this limited edition 7" is 'Get Up Gaff,' a James Brown-inspired rework with some nice analogue 808s driving forward the raw vocal loops and jacked-up drum hits. On the flip, 'Mango In the Jungle' channels more James Brown energy as it collides 'Mango Meat' with 'Give It Up and Turn It Loose.' The result is a wild mix of funk breaks, squealing organs and soulful vocal details that keep things moving and grooving.

Within the first few seconds of this record, it seems obvious Greg Gauthier has been missing clubs as much as we all have. The french soulful stalwart takes a little detour from the soulful & vocal nuyorican feel he's known and renowned for, and takes us deep into Chicago basement banger territory with "Do It.". As for the B-side, "Underground House Rythm" ? To be honest, the title tells you everything you need to know, really.

Phantom Planet's Holiday EP, Maybe You Still Call It Christmas. The album contains the band's 2023 holiday single "Maybe You Still Call It Christmas," a reimagined cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You," a new original holiday song "Riding The Sleigh," as well as "Clockwork '24," which is a revisited version of the track, which originally appeared on Negatives 2. We are pressing it at 45 RPM.

Over the past half century, Tony Levin has been a prolific session player and one of the most active live performers on the planet. He’s contributed his talents to over five hundred albums amongst which include 15 with Peter Gabriel and 18 with King Crimson (counting live, studio, and compilations) alongside contributions to the work of John Lennon, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Herbie Mann, Paul Simon and many others. On tour, he’s traveled the World many times over with the aforementioned King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, and several of his own bands including Stick Men
.
This Fall, he’ll stage 65 performances in North America as a member of BEAT, celebrating King Crimson’s ‘80s repertoire alongside Adrian Belew, Steve Vai and Danny Carey interpreting “Discipline, Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair.”

Levin’s seventh solo album, and his first since 2007, is an autobiography of sorts, with the themes drawn from Levin’s musical life. It features a myriad of collaborators from his half-century-plus on the road and in the studio with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson and many, many others.
