Exploring the Texas ballroom revue scene of the 1960's, The Revues' first offering is this updated take on the classic Royal Jesters cut. On the flip side,The Revues take on the classic song "Carino Nuevo", features a fresh arrangement of the quintessential version played by Sunny Ozuna. By blending elements of Texas and California soul, the Revues breath new life into this classic bolero. Led by vocalist La Marisoul, her soulful voice adds a depth and tenderness to Sunny's version. This take is an ode to the Tejano ballrooms that pervaded across much of the Southwest during the mid-20th century. Late nights, bar fights, broken hearts, and soulful music that provided a soundtrack to the lives of hard working Mexican-American families.
Focus mode to the fullest. Berlin-based Lars Huismann strikes back on Voxnox Records, with his four-track EP "Take The Step".
Self-titled "Take The Step" kicks in first by delivering filthy hat shuffles on even nastier drums and a growing arpeggiator line. With small, yet effective vocal pieces emerging over the place, mysterious pad shapes build a tremendous climax ready to roll further into the future on this one. It's a Voxnox Fam thing with this perfect introduction!
With "Not The Same" stepping up next, Huismann showcases an ever-evolving percussion line on top of some tasty claps and flowing synthesizer plugs. Small voice parts enter the situation too as we get into deeper, atmospheric vibes bringing us a never stopping joy.
And so it's said that the B-sided "Bulletproof" takes nothing less but marching drum patterns and melody glitches coming out of nowhere to prove a forward-directed vibe afterwards. Eventually taking us back to the good old raving area, where eclectic synth lines were the regular state, followed by clever arrangement moves.
Rounding up this EP is the delivered "Bulletproof" remix by Manchester's powerhouse AnD. Taking a faster pitch on the original stems, this remix is a forward-moving rave machine par excellence. With synthesizers marching around the room, proofing that nothing can stop them, we get lost inside this epic round up for the 44th Release of VNR.

Es war der aus Wahington DC stammende Produzent Chucky Thompson (bekannt für seine Arbeit mit Notorious B.I.G. und Diddy), der Bey ermutigte, ihre eigenen Songs aufzunehmen, nachdem sie jahrelang für andere geschrieben und Spoken Word Poetry vorgetragen hatte. Its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca's new subsidiary Source records. But group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. No reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. BETWEEN THE TWO seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. . With well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the Super Disco Edit roster

The Haggis Horns will release their fourth studio album in September 2017 and as a little teaser, they drop a summer single worldwide on June 9th via their own Haggis Records, a feel good bouncing hip-hop/funk jam featuring guest UK MC/rapper Doc Brown. Think back to the dawn of hip-hop in the early 1980s when the first rap singles featured the Sugarhill Records house band laying down heavy funk grooves for MCs like The Furious Five and Treacherous 3 and you get the flavour. No-nonsense party hip-hop/funk for b-boys, soul sisters and funk brothers! And keeping with that old school flavour, it will come with a limited edition 7" vinyl pressing alongside the digital single and feature an instrumental version on the b-side with the Horns cutting loose on the solos.
Now in their 19th year, The Haggis Horns are still as popular and busy as ever playing clubs and festivals around the UK and internationally and finishing this new album for autumn release. Mappa Mundi's sole release 'Musaics' was released on Belgium's legendary USA Import label in 1990, riding on the wave of early trance and ambient house sounds and exploring the same sonic terrain and worlds as The Orb, The KLF, Sun Electric and other like minded outfits. A wonderful swirling collage or mosaic of breakbeats, samples and new-age synth stylings, 'Musaics' is indeed a real trip.
A spontaneous late night studio concoction borne of endless takes and experimentation between Kuyl and Van Den Bergh who both display a deep knowledge and a shared love of different sounds from around the world. The end result is a meditative, sprawling journey that touches on many different styles from languid widescreen techno to frantic drum machine driven machine-funk, all while retaining a feeling of post-rave atmospherics and psychedelia.
This is a very special record indeed, and is somewhat of a lost gem from a very fertile and interesting period in sample based music. Undoubtedly the perfect soundtrack to numerous late nights and early mornings to come, remastered and spread across 2 discs for maximum sonic playback.
