Jeder, der sich ein wenig mit aktueller elektronischer Musik auskennt, hat den Namen Mechatok, alias Emir Timur Tokdemir, schon einmal gehört. Er machte sich einen Namen durch weltweite Tourneen und eine Reihe von Veröffentlichungen und Kooperationen mit einigen der innovativsten Künstler*innen des letzten Jahrzehnts - darunter Drain Gang (Bladee, Ecco2k, Whitearmor, Thaiboy Digital), Charli XCX und Lorenzo Senni. Oft zurückhaltend im Ausdruck, verbreiteten sich diese Arbeiten sowohl in der Underground-Szene als auch im angrenzenden Mainstream und prägten dabei subtil die Entwicklung von experimentellem Pop und Clubmusik. Tokdemir versteht Mechatok als eine Art Avatar, der es ihm ermöglicht, neue Facetten seiner selbst zu erforschen und dem kreativen Prozess Offenheit und Freiheit zu verleihen. Als Inspirationsquellen nennt er Künstler wie Daft Punk und Gorillaz: zeitlose Figuren, die das Konzept des künstlerischen Projekts selbst zu einem Kunstwerk erhoben. Nach Jahren der Klangforschung als Mechatok präsentiert er nun "Wide Awake" - sein fast schon kaleidoskopisches Debüt-Soloalbum. Die Platte kristallisiert eine sehr persönliche Reise heraus und etabliert Mechatok nicht nur als herausragenden Kollaborateur, sondern als unbestreitbaren Solo-Künstler, der seine Vision voll im Griff hat. Durch die Mechatok-Persona findet er Ausdrucksformen, die paradoxerweise intimer - und zeitloser - wirken. Alles auf "Wide Awake" wird durch eine verspielte, aber zutiefst intuitive Klangwelt und eine Reihe haikuartiger, zentraler lyrischer Themen zusammengehalten. Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of Akiko Yano"s cult 1979 album 7 O"Clock in Tokyo, recorded live in September 1978 at a pivotal moment in Japanese music history, just as Yellow Magic Orchestra was about to take the world by storm (Yano would tour the world with the group in 1979). Featuring a very funky Yano performance accompanied by Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, plus Tatsuro Yamashita and Minako Yoshida, the album is presented outside Japan for the first time, with remastered audio, original artwork, and a four-page insert including new liner notes by Paul Bowler.

Tamaki's own vocals are layered on top of each other, and the music is mysterious and harmonious, woven together by synthesizers by Fumitaka Anzai (TPO, Urusei Yatsura music director).

Includes the progressive rock approach of "Poem of Mahamudra" and "Meditation," as well as "River" and "Beautiful Song," which were selected for "Nippon Acid Folk 1970-1980"
(Time Capsule) and are being re-evaluated as hidden gems of acid folk.

DJ, producer, musician, long-time resident at Chicago"s Smartbar, and co-creator of the T4T LUV NRG party and label, Eris Drew has been DJing since the early 90s, and has since taken her ecstatic house and high-energy, uncompromising mixing style to clubs, raves, and festivals worldwide. Eris" DJ-Kicks mix is 79 minutes of, as she puts it "the funky, emotional, ecstatic house-and-breaks backbone that defines my sound", and includes tracks, remixes, and exclusives by Moby, Calisto, DJ Garth, Onionz, DJ Who, Kair, Hoof, and Toka Project, as well as from Eris herself and partner Octo Octa. The result of countless hours of digging, her selection delves into the rattling breaks, rave stabs, and haunting strings of classic and lost "90s hybrid house-and-breaks jams, and matches them with more recent digs, the mix moving back and forth between emotive, bittersweet, and evocative, to raw, tough, and twisted with consummate ease.

Regrettably, the personal credit for “Soul Leon” is unknown, but its tight sound image and strong groove have led some to suggest that it may have been recorded
on the eve of the formation of Sound Limited, given the timing of its release in 1969.

Skirt is a self-described “unhealthy pop” band known for its refreshingly light yet slightly shadowed songwriting and band ensemble, earning widespread
acclaim across professions, genders, and age groups.
The project began in 2006 as the solo multi-track recording endeavor of Wataru Sawabe. In 2010, he launched his own label, Kaczka Sound, and released
his first album ""S-O-S,"" marking the true beginning of Skirt’s full-fledged musical journey.
In April 2021, Skirt collaborated with PUNPEE on the opening theme "ODDTAXI" for the anime "ODDTAXI". Drawing from his extensive knowledge of
comedy, Sawabe served as a judge for the finals of the UNDER 25 OWARAI CHAMPIONSHIP—a comedy competition for performers under 25—in
September 2023, and also wrote the event’s official theme song, "Kitai to Yokan"
In addition, he has contributed music to numerous animated works, films, and TV dramas. His exceptional songwriting skills have led him to write songs
for a range of artists including Takashi Fujii, Kaede (Negicco), Toko Miura, and adieu (Moka Kamishiraishi).
As a versatile multi-instrumentalist, Sawabe has also participated in live performances and recordings with artists he deeply admires, such as Spitz,
Makoto Kawamoto, and Moonriders. Skirt continues to attract attention as both a band and the project of a wonderfully talented, genre-defying
singer-songwriter.

Akhira Sano is a Tokyo-based artist working across sound, drawing, installation, and video. His practice finds generative potential for music in life's fleeting incidents, etching meaning from unassuming spaces and resonances. With releases on 12k, LAAPS, IIKKI, and The Trilogy Tapes, Sano has steadily carved out a distinctive voice within minimal and experimental music - one that privileges attentiveness and patience over spectacle.

"To Material Past", Sano's debut for SWIMS, carries this thread with a single 30-minute work built solely using glockenspiel tones and field recordings from his local neighbourhood. This is a night walk with no map or end point; Sano follows irregular, coiling fragments that extend to form a tessellating luminous whole - like a subliminal mass of tree roots quietly shifting the concrete slabs beneath our feet.

Under this faded gauze of gestures and interactions, Sano's glockenspiel interjects like a grandfather clock, softly marking the partitions that make up a day's collected experience; clicking and chiming like the sleeping brain, as it sifts and catalogues a lifetime's ephemera of thoughts, faces and puzzles.

C"mon Tigre announces their new instrumental project,Instrumental Ensemble - Soundtrack for Imaginary Movie Vol 1. This album oï¬Çers an alternate view of cinematic music: a soundtrack composed for a fictional film using a challenging and inventive method.This project investigates an alternative approach in which music shapes and guides visual storytelling. It"s the first in a series of albums dedicated to as-yet-unmade films, enabling listeners to explore music as a key component in cinematic narrative. The original story that inspired this music was created in partnership with a large language model, which was taught and instructed in substance and style to best fit the project"s artistic concept. C"mon Tigre works with AI to achieve collaborative harmony while contemplating on the unavoidable future ahead. Each track on the album depicts a scene, delivering stories about humans jugglingpersonal issues and contacts with advanced technology. The end result is a story told by sound and text, designed to immerse listeners in a multisensory universe

Atsuko Hatano is a contemporay classical Viola player who works with electronics to add textures and layers to her sound. Located in Tokyo, Japan, she is a commanding instrumentalist and composer who constructs innovative compositions with strings and layered electronics.
Cells #5 is an orchestral collection and sequel to her previous album Cells #2 which will also be released on cassette via Imprec’s Cassauna label. Cells #5 required three years to complete and the work features the artist’s signature methodology where the instrumental performances are gradually enveloped by multiple layers of a string orchestration.
When not playing solo Atsuko is extremely active recording, collaborating and playing live with Jim O’ Rourke, Eiko Ishibashi, Mocky, Midori Hirano and many more acts.

Ein Vierteljahrhundert nach Beginn ihrer legendären Karriere sind MONO endlich nach Hause zurückgekehrt. ,Forever Home: Live in Japan with Orchestra PITREZA" feiert MONOs 25-jähriges Jubiläum mit der ,OATH"-Orchestral-Welttournee, die in den letzten Monaten des Jahres 2024 20 Konzerte in Europa, Asien und den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika umfasste. ,Forever Home" wurde vor ausverkauftem Haus im Spotify O-EAST in Tokio aufgenommen und präsentiert ein 12-köpfiges Orchester unter der Leitung des Orchesterdirektors und häufigen Kollaborateurs Chad McCullough, das MONO bei der Aufführung ihres aktuellen Albums ,OATH" in voller Länge begleitet. Das 100-minütige Konzert endet mit zwei der bekanntesten Songs der Band - ,Ashes in the Snow" und ,Everlasting Light" -, die eine Hommage an den ersten Orchester-Live-Auftritt vor 15 Jahren in New York City darstellen. ,Forever Home" wurde von Matt Cook, dem langjährigen Tontechniker von MONO, aufgenommen und gemischt und fängt die ehrwürdige Gruppe in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung und in ihrer transzendenten Höchstform ein. Mit der symphonischen Begleitung des japanischen Orchesters PITREZA verwandeln MONO einen Raum in Tokio in ein grenzenloses Meer - launisch, kontemplativ und überwältigend. Produced by Merregnon Studios, Piano Fantasies presents new interpretations of SQUARE ENIX's iconic soundtracks. In late-1970s Japan, a new and unique “genre” called techno kayō emerged, blending catchy pop melodies with the futuristic sounds of synthesizers and drum machines. Rooted in the older kayōkyoku style, it was influenced by European electronic acts like Kraftwerk, but had a distinctly Japanese flair. Artists such as Yellow Magic Orchestra pioneered this retro-futuristic sound, creating music that felt both nostalgic and ahead of its time.

Dubby, owner of the legendary record shop Ondas in Tokyo, was one of the first to make Japanese music available to the outside world. He has teamed up with Antal, co-founder of the Amsterdam-based, Rush Hour Records, to release the first in a series of compilations.

Following on from 2024's "Distant Landscapes EP" alongside Tensal, Amorphic returns (solo this time) to James Ruskin's Blueprint Records with a new ten-track album released digitally and as two four-track vinyl EPs released simultaneously.

Amorphic is a pseudonym of Scottish artist Vince Watson to explore more raw and hypnotic signatures. Launched in 2022, Amorphic has featured on labels such as Token, Symbolism and Modularz as well as the two labels Vince runs himself: Amorphic and Morph.

With almost 30 years in the industry, Vince has released over 1000 tracks, which has allowed him to work and gig with some of the very best in that time including Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig and in this year, Vince will release an LP with Carl Cox on his label Awesome Soundwave. As a touring musician has been able to play at some of the world's best clubs as both Amorphic and Vince Watson, including a residency at Tresor Berlin, DC10 Ibiza with Carl Cox, Berghain and Womb Tokyo as well as being a current resident of 909 Festival in Amsterdam.

A reissue of a cassette that was originally released on Uramado in 2020, this is the first time this live session appears on vinyl. The performance, featuring Kudo on piano and 3C123 on clarinet, was recorded on October 18, 2009, at the Uramado venue in Shinjuku. A beautiful and quixotic forty-minute set, that reconnects both Kudo and 3C123 with various musical histories, including those of classical composition and free improvisation.

The performance documented on Tori Kudo & 3C123 is a curious one. While they both appear to slip into improvised ruminations at times, for the most part, Kudo performs pieces by Erik Satie on the piano, over which 3C123 teases an excoriating stream of improvisation from the clarinet. His playing here is wild in its poetry: sometimes lushly nestly alongside Satie’s melodies, elsewhere loosing Ayler-esque squalls from the instrument, it’s a bravura performance that is matched, in an indirect manner, by the poise and pacing of Kudo’s generous, fluent recital.

When asked about the thinking behind the performance documented here, Kudo explains by describing the historical juxtaposition of Satie with Takehisa Kosugi’s improvised violin as “an essence of the Japanese art of collective improvisation.” The playing here, as within Japanese collective improvisation, is about sitting ‘alongside’ each other, not necessarily in direct (or even indirect) reference, but rather sharing the space; “just being there together,” Kudo says, and letting go of the need for performers to engage in interplay.

Tori Kudo & 3C123 is certainly part of that tradition, and this is where its curious poetry resides; in that ‘third space’ that sits in between, but not directly connecting, the two performers. Kudo makes an analogy with Fluxus, which is appropriate. But you can also hear their shared history here, somehow, as Kudo and 3C123 have known each other since the eighties, when they shared a house in Kunitachi City, Tokyo. Their musical paths have been multiple – Kudo, of course, best known perhaps for his Maher Shalal Hash Baz ensemble; 3C123 as a member of Vedda Music Workshop, and with other Japanese musicians like Koichiro Watanabe.

From Tokyo, Mari Fukuhara composed an airy and playful score for the film. She blends impressionistic piano (Ravel is never far), childhood timbres (marimba, traditional Japanese songs), and orchestral textures. The shakuhachi (flute) and the koto bring in a Japanese touch, at times lyrical, at times mischievous. The result is a reading and listening experience that is both deeply personal and universal.



The album unfolds like a musical tale in its own right, evocative yet profoundly intimate.

The debut album from Tokyo's WENDY, now available for the first time as an extended vinyl edition. Formed as teenagers during Japan's strict COVID lockdown, WENDY secretly came together to create rock 'n' roll for a new generation. Their raw demos quickly landed them a publishing deal with Sony Music Publishing and caught the ear of Grammy Award-winning producer Marc Whitmore (Jon Batiste - "We Are"). Whitmore was so impressed he produced their debut album himself, recorded live in just nine days, with no edits, capturing the band's unfiltered energy. Emily A. Sprague's Cloud Time traces an audio-spiritual journey through time and place, recorded across a long-awaited debut tour of Japan in the fall of 2024. Compiled from environmental improvisations captured in and for the moment, material at once welcoming, responsive, and inimitable, the album distills a voyage guided by psychic wayfaring, unbound presence, and activating performance for a reciprocal exchange with space, listener, and each fully engaged instant. The Japanese tour documented on Cloud Time held an almost mythic significance for Sprague, taking on properties of her own sonic white whale. After many near-departures and dropped plans to play in the country, "the empty spaces of cancelled trips and forgotten music turned into strange little misty spirits that I felt followed by," she says. "When I began preparing for the tour, I couldn't shake a sense that the invitation to Japan was more about opening myself up to this new place instead of bringing something into it tightly under my control. Improvisation has always been such a pillar in my music practice, and I really wanted to meet the country, spaces and people through that process." To amplify these intuitive whispers on-stage, Sprague reimagined her time-tested live rig, designed to be as free from error as possible, as a looser, more flexible set up that would allow her to interface with what was essentially a blank sonic canvas every night. Each performance became a collaboration between environment and instinct, Sprague processing the events, energies, and emotions informing the evening through her new sound ecosystem, and projecting an entirely present and unique version of herself to each open-eared and hearted crowd. "It was very much more than just an act of playing for me, but a total experience of time and place," she says. The seven long-form pieces that plot the course of Cloud Time, excerpted from over eight hours of recordings archived on the artist's on-stage recorder and generously shared on the album with no additional mixing and only minimal editing, invite listeners to become still in these deep-rooted moments of presence as the album moves from city to city, venue to venue. Cloud Time chronicles material recorded at each tour stop, Sprague selecting and sequencing the album around mood-based storytelling more so than linear chronology. "I tried to make the whole album flow in the way that any one of the complete live performances did," she explains, "while also keeping the spirit of the whole thing as a journey." The result is equal parts travelog, love letter, and impressionistic collage channeled from the potent ferment of a now encased in the glowing amber of memory. Intrinsically inspired by kankyo ongaku, an environmental music philosophy, known both in and widely outside of Japan that tunes into the similarly expansive ethos as Pauline Oliveros' deep listening practice and posits the listener as composer, Cloud Time is ambient music that seems to be listening right back, grounded in heartfelt synthesized frequencies that abundantly hold and heal. Pieces like "Nagoya," "Tokyo 1," and the ten minute "Matsumoto" in particular hum with the atomic resonance of gently tended landscapes, offering space for tuning way in and dropping far out from perspectives that stifle and bind. Cloud Time is an invitation to embrace each moment as both fleeting and eternal, floating by with nothing to grasp onto and absolutely everything to gain. The exercise in acceptance and letting go that Sprague practiced throughout the tour deeply impacted her understanding of self as both a guest and venerable performer. "The process of loving wherever I am, being present and focusing on a clear channel of communication for mind and emotion, rooted so deeply in respect for the space, those within it, and myself, ended up being profoundly healing," she says. "My vision and hope is that this album can be released as a gift back to anyone who either was or wasn't there. A cloud time of life passing by."
