This collection, featuring seven pieces from 2011 to 2015, celebrates Noah Creshevsky's 70th year with a fittingly life-affirming and masterful verve. An award-winning composer who has studied with Nadia Boulanger and Luciano Berio, he began composing electronic music in 1971, using the power of circuitry, tape and then digital technology to create a "hyperreal" musical world in which recordings of human performers, both vocalists and instrumentalists, are juxtaposed and recombined in compositions which span eras, cultures and genres. His use of expanded musical palettes arises from an aesthetic of inclusion, guided by an open spirit and an expansive musical sense. The combination of the emotional power of human performances with the precision of computers create real-beyond-real super-performances of surprising control and virtuosity, resulting in a hypothetical and yet very real music, full of drama, humor, and tenderness. This album, Creshevsky's second release on EM, following the 2004 "Tape Music" compilation, gives ample evidence of both his mastery of digital technology and his profound, empathetic musical instincts. His ability to use the computer to highlight the gifts of human performers is displayed on every track, including a piece which focuses on Japanese vocalist Tomomi Adachi.

King Tubby and Producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee are intertwined in the birth of Dub Music. After discovering a mistake that made a ‘serious joke’ ( more of which later...) they went on to release the first pressings of this new musical genre namely ‘Dub Music’. Tubby’s vast knowledge of electronics and Bunny’s vast catalogue of rhythms would lay the foundations of what today is taken as a standard... the Remix / Version cuts to an existing vocal tune.

Osbourne ‘King Tubby’ Ruddock was born in Kingston, Jamaica on 28th January 1941 and grew up in the High Holborn Street area of downtown Kingston. He studied electronics at Kingston’s National Technical College and also on two correspondence courses from the U.S.A... When he had qualified Tubby began repairing radios and other electrical appliances in a shack in the back yard of his mother’s home. His work in the early days included winding transformers and building amplifiers for Kingston’s Sound Systems. Tubby built his first Sound System in 1957 playing jazz and Rhythm & Blues at local weddings and birthday parties. His reputation as a man who knew and understood both electronics and music grew steadily and as the sixties drew to a close. Tubby purchased his own basic two track equipment. He installed this alongside his dub cutting machine, a home made mixing console and his impressive collection of Jazz albums in the back bedroom of his home at 18 Dromilly Avenue which he christened his music room.

Tubby and Striker were at Treasure Isle Studio’s one day while Ruddy from Spanish Town was working with the engineer Byron Smith....

“Tubby and myself was talking when Ruddy was cutting some dub but Smithy (engineer) made a mistake through we were talking and forgot to put in the voice. It was two track recording in those days. Ruddy said ‘No Man! Make it stay! and so they cut the rhythm. When I went over to Ruddy’s that Saturday night a dance was in progress and when they played the vocal to the tune... then he said we’re going to play ‘Part Two’. They never called it ‘Version’..and then he played the rhythm track. The song was a catchy song and everybody started to sing along and the deejay started to toast so everything went down well. On Monday morning I went up and I said ‘Tubbs the mistake we made was a serious joke.It mash up Spanish Town! The people went wild. So you have to start to do that now ‘cause when the man put on the ‘Part Two’ everyone start singing this song. It played about twenty times. I said you try Tubbs!’...Well the next Saturday night now when Tubby strung up down the farm U Roy said he’s going to play ‘Part Two’ but Tubby did it different now. He started with the voice then dropped it out and let the rhythm run and then he brought in the voice in the middle and from there Tubby started to get really popular.’’

Dynamic Sounds upgraded to sixteen track recording in 1972 and Tubby purchased, again with the help of a deal brokered by Bunny Lee. The old four track equipment and the MCI console from their Studio B. The four tracks now gave him far wider scope to work with and he began to create a new musical form where the bass and drum parts were brought up while the faders allowed Tubby to ease the vocal and rhythm in and out of the mix. It was only a matter of time before Tubby’s dub plate experiments began to make it on to vinyl and the first ever long playing King Tubby releases would feature a collection of his mixes to a selection of Strikers rhythms. So please sit back and enjoy this historic set of sounds. Lovingly restored and with a few extra gems added to the CD Editions. These releases were the first to carry the name of King Tubby and the first to credit the great musicians that contributed so much to the rhythms that made these albums possible.

Rekindling the near-perfect pop for which they're famed, the single focuses on the light and dark balance of their impending new album Love Chant that will be released on Fire Records this Fall. Beautifully ill-balanced, `Deep End' and `Sad Cinderella' traverse the highs and lows of life, perfectly illustrating Evan Dando's esoteric musical taste. `Deep End' is a churning riff monster with light-the-blue-touch-paper guitar breaks by J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr, a compulsive fist-in-the-air piece of timeless punk pop, the perfect soundtrack for bumming a cigarette. Co-written with Australian sparring partner Tom Morgan of Smudge, featuring J. Mascis and Juliana Hatfield! "Waves of Desire" from Canadian Singer/Songwriter Jerry Leger is the perfect follow-up to his previous studio effort, "Donlands". Produced by Mark Howard (known for his work for such as Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits), it is a record full of vulnerability, space and atmosphere. "Waves of Desire" expands on this but with more pop sensibilities and textures. One of the most respected singer-songwriters around, Ron Sexsmith says, "Leger has that spark in him that all the great songwriters have. He"s the real deal."

Amsterdam label Spectral Bounce recruits French club stalwart Chris Carrier for SPEC06 — Perfect Encounter. Active since 1994, the Parisian artist has released a wellspring of records on Robsoul, Slapfunk and his own Sound Carrier recordings, parallel to his longtime career as a DJ. Characterised by swirling delays and progressive arrangements, Perfect Encounter shows the producer exploring the mesmeric corners of tech house, ideally fitted to the Spectral Bounce aesthetic.

Opener “XLR8” starts with rolling toms that make way for fluid, modulated tones; each bar ebbs and flows to the sweeping synths set in motion by Carrier. Processed with a multitude of delays, rhythmic FX boldly swish above the drums, making for an immersive soundstage. Second track “Light Side” retains the billowing echoes but moves more nimbly, cutting things back to make for a spacious and breezy number. Its croaking synths hop around the stereo field, accompanied by tight percussion and a walking bassline.

The hallucinogenic “Third Moon” sees Carrier step further into trance-inducing territory. The track’s pulsing, syncopated bass note thrums underneath an arpeggio that evolves into a heady prismatic drone. While the chugging beat is ever-present, melodic refrains rise up and evaporate like wisps of vapour, alongside a vocal that fades away as quickly as it appears. The EP’s eponymous “Perfect Encounter” dials up the tension and closes the record with a mysterious touch. Speedy 16th note patterns propel the beat, creating shifty rhythms that rattle and hiss. A rasping, gelatinous synth and squeaky detuned tones resemble extraterrestrial signals — alien morse code for an enraptured dancefloor.

Born in the sewers of Montreal in 2018, it all started with a simple goal : blending old fashioned death metal and modern hardcore together in a city where technical death metal reigns supreme. It didn't take long for the band to make a name in the underground tho. Fast, old school riffs, pummeling mosh parts mixed with energetic stage presence quickly earned ST attraction, especially in the hardcore scene. Initially formed by tattoo artist Vincent PL on vocals and axeman Philippe Leblanc, ST has now its hardest lineup to date by adding Miguel Lepage (ex- Blind Witness, ex- Obey the Brave) on bass and Émile Savard (Profane Order, ex- Malebranche) on drums, turning the band from another local act into an absolute fucking weapon. The time has come to follow the path of Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis and Despised Icon and show the world that Montreal is still to this day a reckless, unrelenting force of death metal.

Ubisoft und Laced Records haben ihre Zusammenarbeit erneuert, um die Musik von Assassin's Creed Shadows auf Vinyl zu veröffentlichen.

"Assassin's Creed Shadows" entführt die Spieler:innen in die reiche Kulisse des feudalen Japans und wird von einem Soundtrack untermalt, der traditionelle Instrumente mit verspielten, modernen Techniken verbindet.

Das Komponistenduo The Flight (Joe Henson und Alexis Smith) kehrt zur Assassin's-Creed-Reihe zurück und liefert einen Soundtrack, der traditionelle Instrumente mit zeitgenössischen orchestralen und elektronischen Elementen verbindet. So entsteht ein unverwechselbares Gefühl für Zeit und Ort, während spielerisch auf die Science-Fiction-Themen der Serie angespielt wird.

Die beiden Protagonisten von "Assassin's Creed Shadows" werden mit unterschiedlichen Instrumenten und musikalischen Ansätzen dargestellt: Die verstohlene Shinobi-Adeptin Naoe wird mit dem Instrument ihrer Wahl, der Tonflöte (Tsuchibue), und dem körperlosen Flüstern während der Stealth-Momente dargestellt. Der legendäre Samurai Yasuke wird mit den schärferen Klängen der Shamisen und rhythmischer Intensität dargestellt.

Für die Darbietung der japanischen Instrumente hat The Flight auf Meisterspieler wie Keiko Kitamura (Koto) und Hibiki Ichikawa (Shamisen) zurückgegriffen. Weitere Interpreten sind die Sängerin Akari Mochizuki, die Flötisten Kristin Naigus, Oriol Singh und Andy Findon sowie Michael Georgiades, der musikalische Mitarbeiter von The Flight bei Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Skin/Glove is the second LP by Belgian musician Mathieu Serruys, following the release of his B.A.A.D.M. debut On Germaine Dulac back in 2014. Compiled over the course of a fortnight, the record features material recorded over the past five years: creaks of ice buckling under heat, thick hums like nauseating headaches, plumes of evaporated organ hymns, frostbitten crackles of dying tape loops. These disparate sources are unified by the pervasive corrosion of pain and time, which presses into the surface of every sonic object. Melodies splinter under the strain of being pulled apart; drones tremble under the gathering gravity of fatigue; dissonances flicker like candles on the brink of extinguishment. Yet despite the emotional density of the material itself, the process of composition provides a route toward comprehending how these sounds and experiences are connected. Skin/Glove reads as a constellatory map of adversity and grief, beautifully coalesced through the cathartic distance of retrospect, haunted by the sibilant whispers of distinct memories in dialogue, latticed by lesions that fatefully and poignantly intersect.

An’archives presents Kagome Kagome, the first collaboration between France’s Delphine Dora and Japan’s Ayami Suzuki. Curious listeners might know Dora from the string of lovely, idiosyncratic albums she’s released over the past two decades, most recently for labels like Modern Love, Morc and Recital; she’s also worked with the likes of Michel Henritzi and Sophie Cooper. Suzuki’s performances, predominantly for voice, place her within a tradition of Japanese improvised music – see the music she’s made with artists such as Takashi Masubuchi, TOMO and Leo Okagawa – but her approach also takes in folk song, ambience and claustrophobic drone.

On Kagome Kagome, Dora and Suzuki play to their many strengths: a gentle, free-willed folksiness; long, aerated drone constructs; ghostly, time-warping explorations for voice. They met on Dora’s May 2024 tour of Japan, though they’d been in touch beforehand, with Dora proposing the collaboration to Suzuki, developed around “concepts of ‘otherworldliness’ and ‘impermanence’,” the latter says, “and explored the relationship between ‘the invisible’ and sound in Japanese culture – a common interest we share.”

They recorded across several days that month, with the sessions for Kagome Kagome taking place in Kanumi, in Tochigi prefecture, at a space named Center. “I was particularly looking forward to seeing Delphine encounter the vintage 104-year-old harmonium from Nippon Gakki Seizo Co. that had just been repaired at Center,” Suzuki recalls. “It was as if the harmonium had been waiting for Delphine to draw sound from it. I felt it was a beautiful relationship where they could guide each other.”

Indeed, there’s something channelled about the music that Dora and Suzuki made together in the session that constitutes Kagome Kagome. Dora’s harmonium might be the spine of the album, but Suzuki’s free- floating voice, and gaseous, muddied banks of electronics, wrap around the wheezing, ancient tonality of the harmonium beautifully – they, too, sound as though they were just waiting to be willed out of the daytime air. Their voices nestle together beautifully – “when we sang together in a tunnel,” Suzuki says, “there were times when we sang the exact same melody without planning. It happened so naturally that the boundaries between us became blurred.”

And that title? It’s drawn from a Japanese children’s song, and the song titles themselves constitute the song’s lyrics, in alternating Japanese (Romanized) and French language. God = doG is the collective around Belpop icon Rudolf Hecke and consists of Nikkie van Lierop (Erotic Dissidents, Praga Khan), Toon Derison (Steven De Bruyn, El Fish), Klaas Tomme (Iskander Moon, Illuminae), and Yassin Joris (Jokke, Naima Joris).

Rudolf Hecke's LP “God is doG spelled backwards” was voted the best Belgian album of 1989 by De Morgen. Humo crowned him “The Nick Cave of Flanders”.

36 years and many musical adventures later, he is back with a strong, dark, and atmospheric album comparable to the works of, for example, This Mortal Coil: different styles of songs sung by different band members. The album is produced by Hecke, David Poltrock, and Ian Caple. Additional lead vocals are by Elsje Helewaut.

Rudolf has also proven to be a gifted author and speaker. On 26 October 2024, he published his ninth book, How Rough is the Stone?, in which he immerses himself in Freemasonry. The journey to that book was accompanied by the recording of new God=doG songs. Mutual influence, symbolism, questioning, insights, and reflection emerged.

From the bellows of a galactic abyss, n-trip offers their first solo EP release on DU:RA. The label boss reveals 4 deep techno tracks cultivated from an appreciation of the stylings of Valentino Mora, Ntogn and Simone Bauer adjacent sound palettes. Attending festivals such as Organik and experiences with deep techno doofs out in the Aussie bushland has also heavily influenced this release.

Reservation and propulsive sound design shape the tracks for the most part, while aspects of field recordings are littered throughout the release of rocks, leaves and sticks from recent travels. The structural simplicity and minimalistic elements make for perfect DJ tracks to accompany swamp-like sets and throbbing sub basslines are sure to shake any doof or club system.

‘Domina’ opens the release with chiming pads and heavily delayed artefacts invoking an ethereal cosmos of which the kicks and bass gently reinforce in movement. A broken snare beat follows as gradually layers of percussion increase in intensity.

‘MML’ takes what energy has built and adds pounding toms to the rhythm. Harsh live synthesis swells in the backdrop as hi-hats and clicks pan around the white noise and minimal yet intentional synth work.

‘dddBBB’ drops the tempo as it comes in full of field recordings. Taking you on a bushwalk through a desolate dreamscape – it slowly grows and pulsates like a giant snake writhing through the cosmic jungle, stalking its prey.

‘MR13’ then takes these ideas and jacks up the tempo to finish off the release. Shakers pan about as sticks, rocks and leaves reinforce the rhythm. FM chords slowly add life to the beat and are accompanied by giant bassy pads that gradually coalesce into its humble yet driving finale.

The third album "Single Man", released on April 21, 1976, was an album with many controversies from the production stage.
It was discontinued less than a year after its release, and then a movement to re-release "Single Man" arose, and it finally re-released in 1980, so it has
a twisted story.

The album features a variety of performances due to the transition period from the folk period to the electric arrangement period, and above all, many
masterpieces that can be said to be representative of the entire RC period, such as "Slow Ballad". The driving force just before the rapid climb to
"KING OF ROCK" after 1980 is already boiling in this album.

In addition to the latest remastered sound source from the original master tape of the album, this deluxe edition includes single songs from that time,

Genre-blending songwriter, arranger, and guitarist Wolfgang Pérez is set to release his highly anticipated new album Só Ouço in July 2025 on Hive Mind. Known for his unique fusion of influences, the German-Spanish artist first captured attention with his 2021 debut WHO CARES WHO CARES (Fun In The Church), followed by the critically acclaimed Spanish-language album AHORA (BAUMUSIK, 2024).

Só Ouço is the fruit of an 18-month creative residency in Rio de Janeiro, where Pérez collaborated with a group of young Brazilian musicians. Deeply inspired by the city's sounds and rhythms, the album marks an exciting chapter in Pérez’s evolving artistic journey.

In 2022, Wolfgang Pérez arrived in Rio de Janeiro on a university exchange to study composition, and quickly found himself immersed in the city’s rich musical landscape. Introduced early on to Rio icons like Thiago Nassif, Arto Lindsay, and Ana Frango Elétrico, what began as a semester turned into a transformative three-semester stay. Pérez absorbed the city's contrasts - it's beauty, its people, it's chaos and violence, all it's contradictions and life - while deeply studying Brazilian music at UFRJ/UNIRIO under the guidance of masters Josimar Carneiro, Marcello Gonçalves and Almir Cortes.

Wolfgang spent the first 6 months or so soaking in as much as possible, going to shows, to the baile funk parties, walking the streets, hiking the mountains in and around Rio, listening to music, making friends, learning where to go and where not to, learning the language, learning the slang, incorporating the culture. He used the time to forget himself in the vibrance of the city.

After this the band came together through a series of chance encounters and happy accidents...some loose jam sessions led to shows around Rio, where Wolfgang, alongside Luis Magalhães (bass), Pedro Fonte (drums) and Paulo Emmery (electric guitar), started to flesh out some of Wolfgang's compositions. At a show at Audio Rebel they met Angelo Wolf (owner of Wolf Estúdio and engineer for artists such as Bala Desejo, Dora Morelenbaum, Zé Ibarra, Marcos Valle, Antonio Neves and Ana Frango Elétrico); moved by the music, Wolf offered Pérez residency and studio time at Wolf Estúdio, providing the foundation for Só Ouço. Angelo was a catalyst for the production of Só Ouço, his openness and generosity helping to shape the sound of the record. Carol Maia, a young guitarist, lyricist and singer brought a sensitivity and tenderness to the songs, while Antonio Neves helped to pull together the brass and woodwind players who would complete the lush sound of the album.

The music on this album was inspired by the original ska recordings coming out of Jamaica in the early to mid 1960s. In particular, the fiery horn instrumentals played by musicians like Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, Lester Sterling, Baba Brooks, Dizzy Moore, Lloyd Brevett, Ernest Ranglin, Jackie Mittoo, Lloyd Knibb, Drumbago, to name just a few. Many of them were originally jazz musicians, and they played in groups like Prince Buster’s All Stars, the Skatalites, Baba Brooks’ Band, King Edwards’ group, and many more.

This is my humble paean to their great works in this now largely neglected era of music. I hope you enjoy it.

Battle Scars by American blues rock musician Walter Trout is a studio album originally released in 2015. The album is a deeply personal one, as it chronicles Trout's battle with a life-threatening liver disease and transplant. It serves as a reflection on his illness, hospitalization, and survival, including lyrics that document key moments during this period. Battle Scars was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Eric Corne and features the tracks "Almost Gone", "Playin' Hideaway", "Omaha" and "Gonna Live Again", amongst others._x000d__x000a_Battle Scars is available as a 10th anniversary edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on aquamarine coloured vinyl and is housed in a gatefold sleeve.

The instrumentation returns to Cough’s two drums, bass, guitar and sax lineup, but adds some fresh elements. Live multichannel dubbing, now a standard of their shows, has been integrated into the performances, as have electronic drum triggers and samples as well as the occasional bass clarinet passage.

In the years since their initial dissolution, each member has pursued their own creative paths, including drone rock, avant techno, ambient, sonic collage, visual art, video work and more. In coming back together, the breadth of their collective practices are all integrated into the music.

Cleveland, die auch schreibt und malt, hat sich zu einer wahrhaft originellen Songwriterin mit einem eigenen Kanon geisterhafter Psychedelik entwickelt, die sich in den letzten Jahren von der sich wandelnden Landschaft rund um ihr ländliches Zuhause in Kalifornien hat inspirieren lassen, vor allem auf dem von der Kritik gefeierten Soloalbum Manzanita, einer magisch-realistischen Dokumentation ihrer Schwangerschaft und frühen Mutterschaft, die auf vielen Jahresendlisten stand. Selbst wenn Cleveland jahrelang Songs über Geister geschrieben hat, so ist das, was in den Schatten von "News of the Universe" lauert, nichts weniger als der Tod selbst: "There are moments on this album that sound to me like the last frantic confession before an asteroid destroys the earth." Klanglich ist die Platte voller Dringlichkeit. Die Songs stolpern über sich selbst, als würden sie versuchen, der Apokalypse zu entkommen: das atemlose Prasseln der Toms in "Strange World", das fingerfertige Eröffnungsriff des Titeltracks, getränkt in Verzerrungen. Die synthetischen Klänge, die auf dem letzten Album "La Luz" von 2021, verwendet wurden, um das träge Summen und Knistern eines Sommertages auf dem Lande zu imitieren, wurden im Weltraum verstreut. Düster, verletzlich, weiblich und unbestreitbar triumphierend ist "News of the Universe" eine weitere umwerfende Platte einer Band, die so verlässlich gut ist, dass die Leute vielleicht übersehen haben, wie bahnbrechend LA LUZ wirklich sind: farbige Frauen in der Indie-Musik, die ihren eigenen Weg gehen, indem sie ihrem eigenen künstlerischen Stern in Galaxien jenseits der aktuellen musikalischen Trends folgen - immer geleitet von einem aufrichtigen Glauben an die kosmische Kraft der Liebe und eines großartigen Riffs. Textlich bewegt sich Care- bender dabei zwischen Abstraktion und direkter Ansprache und verbindet politische Kritik mit persönlichen Themen. Carebender gestaltet Protest in vielen Formen, immer klar, präsent und niemals passiv. Nach ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt auf BlauBlau im Jahr 2022 wird Carebender ihr zweites Album auf einem Netzwerk von vier Labels veröffentlichen - wie in der Musik ist auch hier der Schlüssel die Kollaboration. Mit Run Thru the Cover Crop veröffentlicht das britische Trio Mudlow eine Sammlung von zehn Coverversionen, die stilistisch tief im eigenen Klangkosmos verankert sind. Die Auswahl reicht über Jahrzehnte und Genres hinweg, bleibt dabei aber klanglich konsistent: düster, rau und introspektiv. Sein Gemälde "Badere vid Ingetoprsjön" (Badende am Ingetorpssee) ziert denn auch das Cover-Artwork und im Booklet finden sich zehn weitere Bilder des Künstlers - jedes thematisch einem der Songs zugeordnet. "Leider hat die Kunst meines Onkels nie die Aufmerksamkeit und Anerkennung bekommen, die sie wirklich verdient hat", so Schüler. "Aber er hat ein sehr aufregendes Leben geführt und war ein wahrer Abenteurer, der bereits in frühen Jahren in die schwedische Wildnis gezogen ist und die ganze Welt bereist hat, um dort zu malen. Alles andere war ihm egal. Diese Leidenschaft für die Kunst - ohne Wenn und Aber - hat mich schon als kleiner Junge fasziniert, und wenn er damals Geschichten aus seinem Leben erzählt hat, saß ich mit großen Augen vor ihm." Eine dieser Geschichten greift Schüler in "Marrakesh Swing" auf - ein Flirt mit der Kultur einer Stadt, die er nie besucht hat, aber in seiner Komposition zu blühendem Leben erweckt. Der Hörer erlebt sie vor seinem geistigen Auge - in all ihren Facetten, Farben und ihrer Lebendigkeit.Mit "Tamina's Lullaby" ist nach langer Zeit wieder ein Stück für Soloklavier auf einem triosence-Album enthalten. Gegründet wurde Daughter von Sängerin Elena Tonra und Igor Haefli 2010 während ihrer Zeit an der Musikhochschule. Die erste Veröffentlichung des achtzehnten Albums der Melvins unter dem Namen „Melvins Lite“ erschien ursprünglich am 5. Juni 2012. Es war das erste, auf dem eine der alternativen Besetzungen der Melvins mit Trevor Dunn am Kontrabass zu hören war.

'Osborne' is a rock n roll recovery album for the opioid age, inspired by Trapper Schoepp's own struggles with addiction. It was produced by Mike Viola (Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis) & Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Iron & Wine, Jackson Browne). After relying on prescription painkillers and other substances for a decade, Trapper checked into the Hazelden Betty Ford rehab center near his birthplace in Minnesota last year. Fittingly, the rock n roller was placed in the 'Osborne' unit - a letter off from Ozzy's surname but appropriated as such to honor the former Hazelden patient.

Wenn das ein bisschen noir klingt, dann liegt das daran, dass es das auch ist. ,Film noir Detektive sehen am Anfang immer makellos aus, aber am Ende des Films haben sie einen zerrissenen Kragen, ein blaues Auge, ihre Hosen sind fleckig und sie fangen an, aus Verzweiflung Leute zu schlagen", sagt Birnbaum. ,Sind sie noch die Guten? Ich finde das faszinierend und ich liebe die visuellen Hinweise, die die innere Landschaft widerspiegeln." Zwar gibt es auf The Streets Like Beds Still Warm keine visuellen Hinweise im eigentlichen Sinne, doch das Album verdankt sein großartiges Debüt der Kinematografie. Impressionistische Wirbel aus verzerrter Gitarre, Schlagzeug und Saxophon untermalen Birnbaums heiseres, weltmüdes Bariton-Crooning, das manchmal an Bill Fay erinnert. Aber manchmal, in all den düsteren Bar-Geschichten, denkt man auch an Tom Waits. Es ist ein Vergleich, der sowohl irreführend als auch verkürzend sein kann, aber es ist schwer, diese Assoziationen beim Hören von The Streets Like Beds Still Warm nicht zu sehen - vielleicht eine langsam schwingende Tiffany-Lampe direkt über dem Kopf des Erzählers, der etwas mehr als halbtrunken ist und eine brillant poetische, antiheroische Geschichte auf eine Serviette in einer Bar kritzelt. Seien Sie jedoch versichert, dass dies nicht ,The Heart of Saturday Night" und auch nicht ,In the Wee Small Hours" ist. Tatsächlich stammen die musikalischen Vorläufer von ,The Streets Like Beds Still Warm" aus ganz anderen Ecken des musikalischen Universums. Die Band lässt sich direkt von den Werken der zeitgenössischen Alt-Jazz-Musiker Anna Butterss und Jeff Parker sowie vom Ambient-Pionier Brian Eno ,The Streets Like Beds Still Warm" ist insgesamt ein Statement für nächtliches und hypnotisches Storytelling - sowohl in Bezug auf Stil als auch Inhalt. Birnbaums Engagement für die Erzählung, die letztendlich von Menschlichkeit handelt, spiegelt sich in der traumhaften Art und Weise wider, wie sich die Melodien entfalten. Es könnte gar nicht anders funktionieren. Human Leather have always been a ferocious live act, unbelievably loud for a 2 piece. Their gigs are often an overwhelming wall of sludge, howls and amphetamine-addled drums, with spectators flying joyously around the pit. Previous recordings did full justice to the impact of the live show; however, the second helping is something else. On Here Comes the Mind, There Goes the Body the sludge is still present, rising, and lapping at your ankles, but there's a new clarity showing off exactly how f*cking good those riffs are. There are ear worm riffs for days, shout along vocals that roar, shriek and reform into a Greek chorus, drums that thump you repeatedly in the chest and then the whole thing vanishes in just under 30 minutes, leaving you bruised, deafened and with Some Questions about your life. Squint your ears a bit and you'll hear the influences of bands like Karp, Torche and Big Business but they're thrown into a much crustier stew. The lyrics span a variety of political issues, not limited to the landed gentry, global warming and consumerist harbingers of doom. Importantly the songs are also not afraid to discuss class issues (unlike many political bands who you suspect have a much sturdier security net). While this could easily feel preachy, every line is delivered with the knowing wink of the underdog and good humour (I am going to smile every time I think of "clod damn" or "QVC Hands" staring up at me from the lyric sheet), and the vibes are as they've always been in difficult times - "we know we're fucked, tonight we mosh, tomorrow we march". And what is the point of a revolution you can't dance to? Speaking of dancing, the final track features an honest-to-god dance beat, acid squelches and disembodied vocal samples, pointing to an alternative universe in which Human Leather are a heavy electroclash band. Here comes the record of the year, bring what is left of your eardrums. You didn't need that body anyway
