TechnoTechnoDroneDeep

Arts Gallery is back with all his charm and class, this time at the controls "Lucid Void", a mysterious duo coming from the beautiful land of Georgia. Their connection goes beyond a human link, the balance of two souls is expressed very clearly in this record, showing their mental attitude to draw music geometrically. This music take the listener into another level of space, a wider and limitless place in the mind of the creator. Something that is very rare to experience and yet expressed in such a simple way by this project. Comes in a hand-stamped cardboard sleeve.

"kiska" Is The Lead Single Off Kedr's Sophomore Release, Your Need. The Album Is A Celebration Of Life And Rebirth. It's About A Fighter's Spirit, And If You Will, A Little Audacity And Courage. Dj'ing And Early Forms Of Dance Music Inspired A Furious Burst Of Creative Energy After Months Of Melancholy, Sadness And Reflection To Record The Album In Only A Matter Of Weeks. After Her Breakout Album, Ariadna, Which Put Her On The Forefront Of Russia's Burgeoning Electronic Scene, Kedr Felt Lost With Her Identity And Was Searching For The Direction Of Her Next Chapter. For A While She Felt Trapped By Her Own Image And Needed Quite Some Time To Resolve This Internal Dissonance - To Grow, To Evolve. Dj'ing Was The Main Catalyst To Pull Her Out Of This Rut. The Art Form Shifted Her Inspiration To Mainly Old School Styles Of Dance Music: Ghetto, House, Breakbeat And Uk Garage. For The Prior Year And A Half She Was Listening To Ambient, Kraut-rock And More Experimental Genres - One Can Hear The Brighter, More Energetic Influence Of Early Electronic Music In The Songs On Your Need. One Day She Was Talking With Her Friend Flaty (zhenya), A Very Talented Artist From St. Petersburg Who's Signed To The Gost Zvuk Label, And They Decided To Do A Single Together. He Came To Visit Her In Moscow, But They Ended Up Spending 10 Whole Days Writing Music Together, From Dawn To Dusk. They Vibed Off Each Other's Musical Ideas Perfectly And Understood Each Other Even Without Speaking. Zhenyais A Beatmaster And Pays Attention To Even The Smallest Details Of A Track. He Brought Incredible Richness To The Composition And Kedr Considers Him Her Teacher In This Area. Kedr Was In Charge Of The Melodies And Vibe Of The Tracks, And The Vocal Elements. Your Need Is Like A Chapter Of Life. It's A Story That Illustrates Different Scenarios And Moods That Our Mythical Hero Experiences, Living In An Urban Jungle. From Lost Love To A Bad Trip On The Dance Floor, From Euphoria To Deep Introspection. Our Hero Sometimes Feels Bold, Lost Or Devastated, But Also Tender And Full, Like All Of Us At Some Point In Life. The Ending Is Joyful And Bright. The Last Song Gives Hope And Faith That A New Day Will Come And Wash Away The Old. You Can Feel Like New Every Day. Your Need Reflects An Array Of Genres And A Mix Of Cultures - A Harmonious Combination Of Differences. Everything Kedr Loves About Ghetto Music, In The Traditions Of House, Dub, Breakbeat, 90s Electronic Music And Modern Sounds - She's Embraced And Expressed It All Throughout. Your Need Is Kedr's Ode To Music From Different Eras And Changing Periods.

Wackies
12inch04.04.201904.APR.19

Hip-HopReggae

Rudie will recognise Bobby Sarkie from The Tartans and The Immortals (not to mention his solo roots killer Better World). His singing here is expertly reined in by desolation, numbness and regret, over a hollowed-out, mesmeric rhythm, with some nasty synth-work and casually brilliant effects on the drums. The vocal cut is more than a minute longer than the version which opens the Jah Son Invasion album with such a flourish; and the mix is different, with more prominent keys, and toned-down bass. It's previously unreleased, like the dub.The B-side is booby-trapped with sensational instrumental excursions on Junior Delahaye's Working Hard For The Rent Man and Jackie Mittoo's almighty Drum Song, which conclude the same original tape-reel as Over And Over. Rent Rebate features masterful, boppish soprano saxophone-playing by Roland Alphonso, and restrained guitar interjections by Barry Vincent, with a Spanish tang. The superb hand-drumming on Mount Zion is by Ras Menelik; and it's Mittoo himself on organ (or just maybe Clive Hunt, Wackies can't quite remember).

Präsens Editionen

BeatsExperimentalPopSynth-Pop

* Belia Winnewisser is returning to Präsens Editionen with Radikale Akzeptanz. The record is her debut album as a solo artist and it marks her second release on 'the curious label arm of Lucerne's zweikommasieben magazine.'

* Radikale Akzeptanz, a furious amalgamation of (synth-)pop references and more abstract sounds, combines long running traits from Winnewisser's practice in various band projects with rather new interests from her studies in sound art. Thus, bittersweet off-pop-hymns with bubble-y melodies can be found next to austere examinations. Add a good amount of time spent in clubs and you get a Skull Disco-esque banger at the end of this gutsy album.
The title Radikale Akzeptanz—or radical acceptance—stems from a concept in evidence-based psychotherapy. Even more than the concept as such that is about accepting uncompromisingly your situation, however, it is the expression's mere sound that is of interest to Winnewisser. Homey and adventurous, gentle and challenging, at ease with itself and full of tension(s).

2025 Repress

After a wildly successful collaboration on Thatmanmonkz's 'Turn It Out' from the LP, Columbus-ing, Dave Aju suggested they should continue their production streak for a new percussive tracks project. At the same time, Aju had finally kept his word to legendary Bay Area club/underground MC and personality, Foxxee aka Foxxee Brown aka Lawrence Petty, to work on a track together as well. Petty being a core part of the infamous Ya Mama's House radio show on 106 KMEL alongside Pete Avila and David Harness that introduced legions of young Bay Area DJs to real House Music, includ-ing Aju, in the early 90s. While Aju & Monkz had originally been working on more of a slick club romance narrative angle over some robust tumbling drums, some very tragic news had struck their hometown - at an under-ground event in Oakland California, more than 30 people including many dear friends and stalwarts of the local dance music community had been trapped inside a building and killed in a fire that broke out while doing what they love, in the now-infamous Ghost Ship. Lawrence and Aju immediately acknowledged and agreed that the track should serve as a tribute to the event and the loved ones affected by it. But decidedly, rather than it being a solemn requiem of sorts, it should reflect the communal power, strength and uplifting spirit of the underground scene they all helped build and knew so well. At first entitled They Sleep We Live, a representative reference to the iconic arm tattoo of the late Jonny Igaz aka Nacht, one of the more well-known and active DJs whose life was lost that tragic evening, and a lyrical direction idea for Lawrence for a direct tribute to the SF Bay Area scene,

Once And Future Band - Once And Future Band

In the vapor trail of How Does It Make You Feel,' the first track on this self-titled full length, one can smell the burnt ozone of a seventies-full-orchestra-nebula-pop-odyssey, the flakes floating down and landing like snow, giving grave-chills ... the ash of a masterpiece pop song. Once And Future Band: this incredibly accomplished cabal of total prog wizards has circled the earth, but then, these are the accomplished gentlemen of many former pursuits (the formidable Drunk Horse among them) and all of them comets themselves.

The very mid-'70s vibe at work here surpasses pastiche, and crests that lovely anachronistic conceptual peak: a fully realized and meticulously arranged psych record, meant to be listened to from top to bottom, with the lights down low and in a comfy chair perhaps, or while gazing out the window of your life pod. The Dark Side of the Moon feel, with shades of early Yes's technicality, a dash of Steely Dan's vocal prowess and effortless sheen, and some seriously outsized hooks that call to mind the mighty ELO, Le Orme and, yes, even the unsinkable Queen powered on Brian May's tape echo jet fuel and sequined power cells.

This is a head record in the classic sense but utter fealty to The Dark One insures both being trapped and infected by the pop-parasite. That it is largely self-produced (with tracking / engineering on three of the songs by Phil Manley at El Studio) makes it all the more jaw dropping. Making prog cool again, again, and then slightly more complicatedly, again.

Superpitcher - The Golden Ravedays 6
TGR006
Hippie Dance
12inch07.07.201707.JUL.17

HouseSlowBeatsElectro

Musically and emotionally, Superpitcher's third full-length studio album, The Golden Ravedays is a one sound autobiography that exhibits the skill, feeling and style that the artist has honed over a period of twenty years, musically, and forty-plus-years, emotionally.

And full-length it is:

The Golden Ravedays is an epic album of 24 tracks that was released in January 2017 and is stretching over 12 respective chapter albums during a one-year period.
The sixth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in June 2017.

Number 6 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that Superpitcher is taking us on this year.
Side A features Protest Song. If music is a way of transporting us to other places, Protest Song takes us to a desolate, scary and loveless environment, a burnt-down, burnt-out place where the flesh of its former inhabitants is smouldering, void of goodwill and kindness in a cloud of toxic and greedy smoke. It's all Kafka and Orwell and Suffering - the most twisted and eerie track so far in The Golden Ravedays saga. What is undeniably clear is an acute sense of regret and loss - a warning that it could have been avoided, had we only listened to our hearts and protested.
In the same vein on Side B we hear powerful Resistance. Produced after the Paris attacks of 2015 Superpitcher outdid himself with this strong message of Resistance. Where Protest Song paints a picture of under-worldly doom, Resistance's techno beat and insistent refrain sweeps us to the surface of the muck of hatred and intolerance we've politically been dumped in. A voice that seems like a trapped animal is calling out to us. What is it trying to say Is it crying out for help Is that animal all of us Resistance represents hope and encouragement and could be the perfect marching track to any demonstration against negative forces. Much needed in this age of bigotry where it seems like time has leaped backwards to a darker side of history. As for the dancefloor - Resistance is irresistible!

Wice - Hedonism Ep
STEIN001
Steinlach
12inch16.06.201716.JUN.17

TechnoDubTechno

Hedonism in its purest form means nothing but adjusting one s life and ambition towards pleasure and joy as well as the prevention of pain and sorrow. Following that concept, Wice s first EP takes the listener along on a journey of extremes: persistently strolling between sensual desire, ecstasy and lust as well as the deepest abysses of human sensitivities.
Coherently, just kiddin drags the listener right into Wice s universe of fabulous oppositions without any prior warning: the Peak Time Killer, inspired by the love of Detroit Techno of the 90ies, exhibits irrepressible energy, velocity and surprising twists and turns. Driven by the progressive drive of the drum patterns, the voyager, trapped in a mesh of percussions, wanders confused and disoriented on dance floors looking for support and, as if out of the blue, finally gets released by the warm synthline and gently taken by the hand. Simply just kiddin.
When legs are broken, things have to be done can be described as a small masterpiece of urban, intelligent dance music. The composition, which ranges in between complexity and simplicity, with its breaking beats in combination with spheric pads shows up the necessity that one should, despite setbacks, consistently remind oneself that life, love and music reveal their most beautiful aspects in a balanced and smooth flow.
The eponymous track hedonism draws a painting of obscure and rugged techno landscapes, which attract the listener magically, even though their beauty and grace can only be assumed at first glance. Once identified, the shimmering pads, the forceful bassline and the impulsive percussions unfold a world riddled with the most beautiful abysses and animality hedonism in its purest and most sinful form alike.
With blind certainty a downtempo piece rounds off the EP, which is supposed to be comprehended as a reminder for all hedonists that blind trust may have positive as well as negative consequences.
The hopeful basic mood of the song, however, always lets the light at the end of the tunnel shine through, which emphasizes the optimistic exit of Wice s world of hedonism.

After relocating to London and playing shows around Europe for a year and a half, self-imposed pariahs Penelope Trappes and Stephen Hindman delved into creating a two-sided existential opus by renting out old studio spaces around the UK and using mostly analog 80's instruments, machines and effects.
An album about being in love with pure solitude, when STILL // ALONE is separated into two distinct sides, record one, STILL, is a hypnotic meditation for the nightclub. Wavy patterns of sound and light bounce off of Penelope's literary vocal bursts, layered over the ominous deep synths and arpeggiators, held together only by a strict 4/4 beat. The rhythm, ironically forcing the body to move, however internally focused and mindful, still.
Record two, ALONE, takes the club offline and into the fringes of raw, odd pop.

Ever-prominent drum machine beats rule, while love and loss permeate the four atmospheric goth songs. Music for dancing alone.

Again shooting for the altitudes reached on MANHIGH's first journey, Henning Baer's second operation returns to the endeavour with a newly diversified mission. 'Operator' finds us already at the furthest edge of the atmosphere, pulsating waves of distorted electronics and distant, disembodied voices floating in the void. 'Pittsburgh Left' is the fall back to earth, the unrelenting metallic rhythm slowly gaining momentum, momentary shifts in perspective and detail flashing by as the decent accelerates inexorably. The contemplation before leaving the ground, 'AIIM' slowly anticipates the ascent and examines the cosmos before lift-off. Surely the launch phase 'Canadian Suit' is both reflective and onrushing, trapped between tense, contrasting moments before being flung into the unknown. Displaying both Henning Baer's typically acute feeling for talent and Kangding Ray's restless ear, the remix of 'AIIM' is a complete reinterpretation, setting grinding triplet rhythms in an industrial soundscape that suggests travels more fearful than those that surround it.

The second outing from BTG follows, in tradition, their 2 originals and 2 remixes format. This time round TOYC creates a slower paced dance floor obliterator titled 'Kicks' sounding like a wonky laser gun trapped inside a broken 808 landing somewhere between broken techno and bass. On the remix Project Mooncircle and 20/20 LDN affiliated Deft deconstructs and reconstructs TOYC's track into a maximalist beast fusing the current sounds of 160 BPM 170 BPM and halftime DnB with the technical precision of Amon Tobin. Up next the bootyshaking stormer they call Itoa, known for releases on Bad Taste and being featured in storming 160/170bpm sets by DJs and tastemakers such as Om Unit and Sam Binga. 'Snake Pass' is a classic Itoa track, playful bouncing subs and flickering percussion and shards of vocal, landing somewhere between footwork and booty bass. BTG cofounder Etch sets the pace with his remix of Snake Pass, coming through with a schizophrenic beats influenced sub heavy stepper that slowly evolves into a breakbeat onslaught.

The structure and the essence of this release, focuses on a current argument in which more and more people in this society are found to be the early protagonists, often without even realizing it.
The artist wants to tell and convey through his work, a point of view towards this theme.
As can be deduced from the title of the EP, the project is to express and represent a war of colors, which fight the monotony of everyday, always flat and dark.
The first track, "Daily March", wants to criticize this monotony through a full-bodied sound that recalls a real daily march, which many people are facing every day. All accompanied by a setting of hypnotic sounds that capturing the attention of the listener, carrying in a vicious circle in which one perceives the focus of the concept that the artist wants to communicate.
The second track, "Appearance Of Freedom" is the soundtrack for those who are trapped in slavery everyday life, believing to be free or at least trying to able to escape from the monotony, but then realizing that it is only an appearance. The sound of this second soundtrack fully embraces with the first, almost as if it were a single story that is going to evolve, arguing the rebellion that the artist wants to express in this state of being of the person in the present life.
To accompany the two original works of Kalos, there are two remixes by great artists, the first made by the Irish duo Lakker, which are able to communicate their idea of daily march through their strong version, being able to also expose them a very clear message.
The second remix is made by the Begian artist Yves De Mey, for the track "Apperance Of Freedom" where he captures in full the message of the track and re-edited, bringing attention to the full-bodied bass carefully distorted, creating a trip hypnotic evolving.

Poker Flat is gearing up to celebrate fifteen years strong, with a series of releases that will assure their standing as one of electronic music's best known and most loved imprints. Poker Flat's unwavering dedication to the finest underground house music has unearthed new talent, developed rising stars and welcomed veterans into the fold, and the first of the label's 15th anniversary compilations brings together four of the brightest leading lights of the scene. With four seminal labels - Raw Elements, Dessous, Traffic Signs and Poker Flat - to his credit, Steve Bug has little to prove, but the tireless artist has never been a slouch on the DJ and production front, as he's proven time and again. Tracks like 'A Shot In The Dark' showcased his musical chops, and tied together elements of classic warehouse sounds, deep and sophisticated production and an uncompromising techy edge. The anniversary reworking of the tracks made for 4 Jacks boasts the remix talents of Taylor, whose sleek approach chops up the old school piano chords of the original for a bumping, more streamlined result. Another smashing new remix features in the form of Boris Dlugosch's 2012 acid-disco-house hit 'Sweet Talk". Here The Organ Grinder crafts a bass-heavy monster with a walloping kick drum and syncopated handclaps that enhance Boris' acid melodies and make it rough and ready for underground tastes. Key Fachwerk team member Sascha Rydell is back on his home label founded by Mike Dehnert with another EP of searing techno. 'Thought Disorder' is a cantering, bulky affair with clipped vocals trapped in the middle of meaty drum loops. It's a well-swung track that has plenty of height to it, while 'Haptic' appears to make sue of the same vocal phrases. This time it's subtler, buried deep in a minimal percussive line and dubby, swaying drums. With some cute finger clicks joining the fray, this one is perfect for early evening warm-ups where the opener is a peak time banger. Filling up the b-side is Moony's remix of 'Rings Of Smoke' - a track by Roberto that was released on Fachwerk's previous EP.
