Smiles Like A Shark is an album by the British trip hop duo Mulu. It is the only album ever released by the band from Liverpool. The two members that made Mulu are producer Alan Edmunds and singer Laura Campbell. Before forming Mulu, Edmunds had worked on remixes for various artists including Utah Saints, Fluke, Björk, Heaven 17, Elbow, The Kills, Moloko, Mellow, Spandau Ballet, OMD, and Dame Shirley Bassey. Smiles Like A Shark received critical acclaim for its innovative production and the duo's distinctive musical style, making it a notable release in the late '90s alternative scene. Despite its niche appeal, the album has garnered a dedicated following, appreciated for its bold experimentation and emotional depth. The album sparked three singles: ""Filmstar"", ""Pussycat"" and ""Desire"". The single ""Pussycat"" was named Record of the Week on Mark and Lard's BBC Radio One show, and it reached #50 on the UK Singles Chart. Smiles Like A Shark is available on vinyl for the first time as a limited edition of 500 copies on translucent blue coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

CBRK002 opens up with a rolling, gritty number that could only be Fergus Sweetland, as metallic voices beckon forth on ‘Untitled (ARP 1.02)’. Hasvat Informant, whose thunderous reputation precedes him, then storms the barn with the explosive ‘Abispa Ephippium’. The B-side shifts gears to Goa’s Dotdat and his frantically groovy track ‘Holo’, followed by a gorgeous minimal number by Berlin-based Pino Peña – Mia’s Pocket; one that’s sure to get summer dancefloors pumping.


The C-side of the record contains two heaving tracks, the C1 from the prominent force of Cloudy Ku with ‘A Room of One’s Own’, and the C2 from the dark visage that is disgrays with
‘Turmstraße’. The final side of the record has Amsterdam legend Juan Sanchez open the filter with a warm, jacking submission in ‘Indulge’, while the Berliner Marsch takes us home with a
devious timbre that will have bodies glued to the floor on ‘Into You’.

Die Endzeitstimmung um 1980 gab Punk und New Wave erst den nötigen Schub. Sie sorgte für einen unglaublichen Ausbruch von Aktivität und Kreativität. Vor dem Hintergrund des atomaren Wettrüstens der Supermächte USA und Sowjetunion glaubte niemand mehr an eine große Zukunft - daher schien plötzlich alles erlaubt, ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste. Davon erzählt das Buch. Und davon kann man sich auf der zeitgleich zur Veröffentlichung der 4. Auflage des Buches bei Tapete erscheinenden Compilation auch einen musikalischen Eindruck verschaffen. Frank Apunkt Schneider entfaltet die Geschichte der Neuen Deutschen Welle und des deutschen Punk-Underground im Buch bis hinein in Regional-, Kassetten- und Fanzine-Szenen. Neben den mittlerweile kanonisierten Klassikern dieser Bewegung, (z. B. DAF, Fehlfarben) stellt Schneider Chartbreaker wie Trio oder Extrabreit als auch Underground-Acts vor. Gerade auf diese nicht im Mainstream aktiven Bands wie z.B. Kosmonautentraum, Neues Deutschland oder Carambolage zielt die Compilation ab; eine wohlproportionierte Mixture aus Raritäten und Underground-Hits dokumentieren die wohl aufregendste Zeit der Musikproduktion nicht nur im deutschsprachigen Raum. Schneider zeigt im Buch historisch bedingte Schnittmengen auf, erzählt von Freund- wie Feindschaften, stellt Epizentren in der Provinz gegen die Metropolen und knüpft immer ans Hier und Heute an.

Formed in London in 1976, The Damned became one of the most groundbreaking and influential bands coming out of the 70s British punk rock scene. Their debut single “New Rose” (1976) is considered the first punk single to be ever released in the UK. Throughout their impressive 45+ year career (and counting), The Damned have experimented with various musical styles, incorporating elements of gothic rock, psychedelia, and new wave into their sound. In October 2020, over 40 years after the founding members parted ways, The Damned announced a series of reunion shows with the original line-up consisting of Dave Vanian (vocals), Brian James (guitar), Captain Sensible (bass), and Rat Scabies (drums). However, due to the pandemic, they were forced to postpone the shows until 2022. November 3rd, 2022, saw the band performing at the fully packed O2 Apollo in Manchester, UK, delivering an energetic 21-song set drawn from the first two albums, the 1977’s “Damned Damned Damned” and “Music for Pleasure”, the only albums to feature the four founding members. This legendary reunion show is captured on the worldwide release “AD 2022 – Live In Manchester” which perfectly portrays the unique magic around The Damned.

Ursa Minor is a constellation in the northern hemisphere. It shares the same name as the Big Dipper, because its tail resembles the handle of a spoon: it consists of seven stars in the shape of a car; Four of them form what is the deep part ofthe car and the other three are the handle of the car. It occupies an area of 255.9 square, in which it contains a total of 39 NGC objects.
The best-known element of the Little Dipper is the polar star, called Polaris, which is located approximately in the extension ofthe Earth's axis, so that it remains almost fixed in the sky andmarks the geographic north pole.

Ace Buzz is one of the various projects of Tony Baron and Gery Francois (the minds behind projects like "Teknokrat's" and others that would found their output on labels like Carrere). Potentially naive for some, but surely playful and raw, an exquisite example of the sound of Belgian "New Beat". Void of the usual aggressive temper known to the genre, "Moskitos" comes in with a slight juxtaposition of Balearic accents in the form of those classic, very simple, piano chords we might have heard enough of. The samples employed invoke the image of someone in a cheap hotel room in Ibiza without AC trying to kill the airborne vermin celebrated in the title while hallucinating from an August drug infused heatwave, who knows. On the B-side, things slow down into a deeper more serious mood, "Nuevo Mondo" departs from the usual New Beat potency into something a bit more digestible to the ear in a rather unique way, followed by a Remix that sounds more like a complete facelift of a cover version by studio maestro Anatolian Weapons.

Yon Loader is a New Zealand recording project developed over distance and led by James Stuteley (Carb on Carb). Made in numerous sessions in various locations, the project weaves together many elements and talents of Aotearoa indie rock. Stuteley composed the core of the songs before fleshing them out with help from a cast of rotating collaborators and key engineer and producer Harry Lilley. These collaborators (including members of Recitals, Welcomer, For Everest, Model Home, Fouler, First Move, and Bad Friend) build Stuteley’s straightforward, candid compositions into an album of weighty, intricate rock songs with melancholic, diaristic emo-punk energy. Interweaving guitar and cello draws on the epic without going into excess. Slipping between thoughtful guitar passages and poignant interludes to expansive uplifting blowouts of repeated vocals and waves of cymbals, Yon Loader's debut album draws you in and holds you tightly.

Back in circulation after over a decade, Jahtari's seminal "Jahtarian Dubbers Vol. 1 EP" receives the long-awaited reissue treatment, reviving the raw, 8-bit-infused dub vibes that defined a new era of digital roots music.

Originally released in 2008 and quickly disappearing into dub obscurity, this heavyweight 12" returns with four essential cuts that perfectly encapsulate the Jahtari sound—where chiptune meets the echo chamber.

The EP kicks off with Blaze Dem's "Roots Defender", a hypnotic concotion of deep basslines and eerie samples from a Swedish cult ritual, setting a heavy tone right from the start. disrupt's cinematic "Kozure Okami" follows, channeling Black Ark vibes through 8-bit synth explorations.

On the flip, John Frum delivers the hauntingly beautiful "January Dub", while Rootah's slomo slammer "Holy Mount Part 2" closes the EP with Lynchian, echo-soaked vibrations that linger long after the needle lifts.

For the first time on vinyl! We present the fourth volume of the SAMPLADELIA series. After the resounding success of the previous volume, Enlace Funk magazine has selected sounds from funk, soul and R&B made in Spain 2023 and which are published for the first time on vinyl format.

The fourth installment of Sampladelia opens with an infectious tribute to Prince by Calequi, El Sr. Rojo brings then a bomb of raw hip hop and funk. Astrid Jones & The Blue Flaps delights us with their luxury soul and Chacho Brodas with the production by Griffi, surrounded by an all-star of names, offers solid R&B.

Lalo López ends the side A with his Limited Orchestra with the best electro funk hit. The B side starts with Julia Martín´s modern soul anthem with a positive message for the dance floor. The second track, the debut of Donny's Black Shoes, is a shocking declaration of principles that will give a lot to talk about.

Drunk In Palace updates the sound of the 80s in a personal way and Juli Giuliani brings the groove to the dancers. The last track, “Las paro todas” by Javier Simón offers R&B loaded with a message. After many years working as a buyer for several record stores, DJ Chintam opened his own Blow Up shop in 2018 in Tokyo's Shibuya district. A member of the Dayjam Crew and a specialist of soul, funk, rare groove and disco music, Chintam is also an expert of the home-brewed Wamono grooves. He supervised and wrote the legendary Wamono A to Z records guide book together with DJ Yoshizawa Dynamite.

For this brand new chapter in the highly acclaimed Wamono series, our man Chintam goes digging into the vaults of one of the most revered Japanese labels: Trio Records. Established in 1969 by audio manufacturer Trio Electronics, now known as Kenwood, the label - and its subsidiaries such as Showboat and Trash - released high quality music spanning a large variety of genres including rock, jazz, fusion, soundtracks and popular songs, until its end in 1984. Through the eight tracks selected here, Chintam unearths some dope drum breaks, heavy bass lines and funky horns, for an essential selection of jazz funk fusion and rare groove vibes produced on Trio between 1973 and 1981.

Crates of vinyl from floor to ceiling line the long hallway. Guitars appear at every angle, one lying across a sofa in obvious mid-play with others in cases tucked beside amplifiers into every conceivable corner. Synthesizers and cables cover the purple satin bed while gouache paintings in various stages of progress strewn the floor. Album covers, movie posters, books, paintings, prints and souvenirs of subversive culture occupy the remaining wall space. A sanctuary of adoration, creation and imagination, it's also the nerve center of their record label Heads on Fire Industries and the site where the final mixes of their latest album Beyond This Fiction took shape. For nearly two decades, White Hills have been blowing minds with their sonic alchemy: a unique mix of neo-psychedelia, art rock, and post-punk- at once original and recognizable. Their cult reputation emblazoned in celluloid following their performance in Jim Jarmusch's sultry vampire romance Only Lovers Left Alive, the duo has toured vigorously since their inception. With a vast catalogue that astounds and a relentless punk ethos, time seems to energize the duo, making them increasingly daring and prolific. "Music creates a bliss beyond sex and drugs," professes one-woman rhythm section Ego Sensation. "We'll never stop making music. It's the highest high to be had in life." Inspired by the ideas of Joseph Campbell, the writer/philosopher known for the book The Power of Myth, the album explores the idea of "riding between opposites"- forging one's own path unrestrained by the dualistic constraints of society. It's a cry to all the seers among us- call us outsiders or rebels- who feel smothered by convention and see nonconformity as the gateway into divine mystery. Recorded with Martin Bisi, known for his iconic NYC sound developed through his work with no-wave titans Sonic Youth, Swans and Lydia Lunch, Beyond This Fiction sees Dave W (guitar/vocals/synths) and Ego Sensation (drums/bass/vocals) orchestrating their distinct guitar heavy meditations into songs with a stronger focus on vocals than previous albums. Opener "Throw It Up In The Air" and closer "Beyond This Fiction" both have a lush quality that flirts with shoegaze. "Killing Crimson", a song that takes inspiration from Killing Joke and King Crimson, has a driving beat and a catchy hook that begs for a sing-a-long. "The Awakening" plunges into the meditative ambient abyss the band is well known for, featuring the unique voice of frequent collaborator poet Dan McGuire to deliver the meaning behind Beyond This Fiction. Ego reaches in the closet pulling out the red velvet jacket she wears on the cover of Beyond This Fiction where she stands in a NYC alley holding a glowing orb. The 4th in the DDS 12” series, NZO helps stake the label’s 15th year of operations with a typically Janus-faced approach to classic >< contemporary club ruffage. Tune to tune, she decimates and distills familiar tropes in singular, whirring syncopations designed to prompt bodies to move in fresh new ways. It’s all primed for proper animist magick, bound to snag rhythm fiends with its shape-cutting manoeuvres.

Working deep in the hardcore ’nuum’s 30 odd year tradition of concrète sampler chicanery, the four tracks find fractured vocals and echoes of club classics revitalised and reset with advanced drum ingenuity. 160BPM opener ‘Concentrate’ appears like Hessle Audio’s Joe stripped for parts, whilst ‘Mallet’ swivels like SND remodelling Afrobeats’ palette of tuned percussions, next to what could almost be a lost Various Production edit in the sublime tension of syrupy R&B and frothing drums on ‘Come Alive’.

The EP ends with its standout, ‘Body & Soul’, an undulating ama simmer punctuated by dub chords like some lost Basic Channel production re-cast for the lovers.
