Das renommierte Soullabel Goldwax aus den 60er Jahren hatte ein straffes Release-Programm, dennoch blieben einige seiner Aufnahmen unvermeidlich auf der Strecke. Im Jahr 2000 kaufte Ace Records das Label und erlangte damit das volle Eigentum an den Bändern, was zu weiteren musikalischen Entdeckungen führte. Die Releases bei Ace und Kent in den letzten über zwanzig Jahren haben die meisten dieser Aufnahmen vor allem auf CDs gezeigt - dem Medium der frühen Jahre des 21. Jahrhunderts. In jüngster Zeit hat die wieder gestiegene Nachfrage nach Vinyl zu neuen 12"-Zusammenstellungen geführt, und als Ergänzung dazu hat Ace eine hübsche Box-Kollektion mit sieben 7inch-Singles zusammengestellt, die Soul-Sammler ansprechen wird.

In der Hoffnung, Sun Konkurrenz zu machen, startete Meteor 1952 vielversprechend mit dem in Chicago aufgenommenen R&B-Hit 'I Believe' von Elmore James. Ein zweiter Hit, diesmal im Country-Bereich, 'Daydreamin' von Bud Deckelman Ende 1954, verlieh Meteor jedoch neues Leben und weckte Lesters Interesse an Aufnahmen von Rockabilly-Künstlern, insbesondere jetzt, da der Newcomer Elvis Presley bei Sun seinen Durchbruch hatte. Meteor's Studio war dazu da, seine Geheimnisse zu bewahren, und darin lag die Magie. Niemand wurde jemals bezahlt und niemand wurde zu einer zweiten Session eingeladen. Irgendwann im Sommer 1957 machte Lester Bihari das Licht aus, schloss ab und ging, ohne sich die Mühe zu machen, die Master und irgendwelche Unterlagen mitzunehmen, und machte das Label mit dieser letzten Drehung des Schlüssels zum Mythos.
