Canadian-born Alexander 'Skip' Spence was the co-founder of Moby Grape, and played guitar with them until 1969. In the same year he released his only solo album: Oar.
The album was recorded after Spence had spent six months in a mental institution following a delusion-driven attempt to attack his Moby Grape band mates with a fire axe, after having ingested LSD. As the urban myth goes, on the day of his release he drove a motorcycle - dressed in only his pyjamas - directly to Nashville to record his only solo album. Fact is that he recorded this album in seven days, playing all the instruments himself, and that the end result is now considered to be a classic psychedelic folk album. After this album Spence largely withdrew from the music industry.
Original copies of Oar fetch quite the sum nowadays, so Music On Vinyl teamed up with Columbia/Sony to make this psychedelic folk gem available for everybody to enjoy.

JoeyStarr is the co-founder of the famous French rap duo Suprême NTM. Originally starting out as breakdancers and graffiti writers, the duo is known for representing the perspective of minorities residing in the underprivileged neighbourhoods of Paris and beyond through dark, gritty, politically-conscious lyrics. Despite achieving record sales with their four albums, they split in 1998.
After a few detours away from the music business, in 2006 JoeyStarr dropped his first solo album. Egomaniac, released in 2011, is his second album and includes some high-profile collaborations; on "Mamy..." he works together with Nicoletta on a rework of her 1971 hit single "Mamy Blue" and the interlude "Appel À La Resistance" features a speech by leading left-wing politician Olivier Besancenot. After its initial release, the vinyl edition went out of print so we're happy we can finally make it available again.

Since first meeting as midwestern high-schoolers in 2009, Citizen have emerged as one of the most promising young bands in the alternative underground today. Guy’s stinging leads are still evident as is his emotive voice, but both are less flamboyant in the unplugged setting. Accompanied by spare stand-up bass and brushed drums, Guy sounds nearly supernatural on covers from Skip James ("Hard Time Killing Floor"), Johnny Shines ("Moanin’ and Groanin’"), Son House ("Louise McGhee"), and John Lee Hooker ("Sally Mae") among others. It’s a low-key, low-down affair made for late nights, rainy days, and the saddest of moods.
Buddy Guy is just as convincing here, arguably more so, as on his barnstorming electric albums, making Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalogue.

Lily Was Here is the soundtrack album to the 1989 Dutch drama film of the same name (original Dutch title: De Kassière, The Cashier), released in 1989 and produced and largely written by British musician David A. Stewart, known as one half of the pop duo Eurythmics.
The most notable element of the soundtrack is its title track, an instrumental duet pairing Stewart’s guitar work with saxophone performances by Candy Dulfer. The track was released as a single and achieved chart success in multiple countries, including reaching #1 in the Netherlands for five weeks, number six on the UK Singles Chart and number eleven on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Boogiemonsters were an American hip hop group composed of Bronx‑born rapper Mondo McCann, Alaskan native Vex Da Vortex (Sean Pollard), and Jamaican‑born brothers Myntric (Sean Myers) and Yodared (Ivor “Al” Myers). The members met while attending Virginia State University, quickly connected, and began recording demos and performing at campus events. Their early momentum led them to win first place at Howard University’s Hip‑Hop Convention.
Pendulum/EMI record label signed the four MCs and released their debut album Riders Of The Storm: The Underwater Album in 1994. The first single, “Recognized Thresholds of Negative Stress,” introduced their thoughtful, alternative approach to hip hop. It was followed by “Honeydips in Gotham,” a smooth tribute to the fly sistas of the city, and “Strange,” built around a slick Cameo sample. Another standout track, “Salt Water Taffy (Slo Jam),” is noted as one of the earliest non‑Roots session appearances by future producer Scott Storch.
Riders Of the Storm: The Underwater Album delivers a focused blend of rugged beats, sharp lyricism, and atmospheric production that stands apart in the 90s hip hop landscape. Cranes is a dream pop/shoegaze band formed by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw, who rose to stardom following a world tour with the Cure in 1992. After the influential Dedicated label folded in 1998 they went on a two-year hiatus after which they set up their own label Dadaphonic. On Dadaphonic, they released three studio albums between 2001 and 2008, of which Future Songs is their first.
Between 1986 and 1997 Cranes released a steady stream of records on Bite Back! and of course Dedicated, and when the latter folded, the Shaw siblings took a relatively long break from recording. Then, in 2001 they returned with a different bassist and drummer, their new Dadaphonic label and a fantastic new record to go along with it. A breathe of fresh air,
Future Songs acts as a bridge between their somewhat brusque approach to shoegaze from the 90s and electronica-infused sound from the zeroes. A remarkable effort, especially considering the Shaws recorded almost everything on their own.

Chicken Shack are a British blues rock band founded in 1965 by Stan Webb, Andy Silvester, and Alan Morley, who were later joined by Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie, then still known as Christine Perfect. They signed to the legendary British blues label Blue Horizon in 1967.
O.K. Ken? is the band's second studio album from 1969 and reached #9 in the UK Albums Chart. The record was Perfect's last album as a member of Chicken Shack; she would join Fleetwood Mac a year later in July 1970. Her tune "Get Like You Used to Be" from the album became a staple of Fleetwood Mac's live act until 1975.

Comfort y Música Para Volar is the result of Soda Stereo's beloved 1996 MTV Unplugged session. The sessions provided a fascinating overview of the band's discography, offering unique new (un)plugged renditions of their songs. For example, the 1980s hit "En la Ciudad de la Furia" which sounds like a complete reinterpretation, stretching to eight minutes and featuring the powerful vocals of Colombian artist Andrea Echeverri. This gives the song a new life and adding something special to the original version. Alisha's Attic were one of the defining English pop duos of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Formed by sisters Shelly and Karen Poole, the pair first appeared in 1988 under the name Keren & Chelle, releasing their single "Sugar Daddy". In 1996 Alisha's Attic released their debut single "I Am, I Feel" which reached the #14 in the UK Singles Charts. Their debut album, Alisha Rules the World was released in November 1996, produced by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. The album became a major success, achieving Platinum in the UK and generated a string of single "Alisha Rules The World", "Indestructible" and "Air We Breathe" all of which reached the UK Top 15.
My Favorite Things is one of J ohn Coltrane 's all time bestselling LPs. Recorded in 1960 for Atlantic Records during three marathon sessions that also produced enough music for four subsequent albums: Coltrane Plays the Blues , Coltrane's Sound , and Coltrane Legacy. The LP's title tune belongs to the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, which at the time, might have seemed an odd choice by critics and fans. However, in Coltrane's hand the tune is spun out with an Eastern sound, a waltz reminiscent of a dervish dance, hypnotic and totally engaging. Shrunken Elvis ist ein Trio aus Nashville, bestehend aus Spencer Cullum, Sean Thompson und Rich Ruth - drei erfahrenen Musikern, die ihre Liebe zu genreübergreifender Instrumentalmusik verbindet. Recorded in 1960, The Genius Hits the Road was a conceptual album by the great Ray Charles with all its songs referring to a geographical location. Arranged and conducted by Ralph Burns and featuring key members of Ray's band - including saxophonist David "Fathead" Newman and trumpeter Marcus Belgrave - plus strings, the album includes the perennial hit "Georgia On My Mind" - the Hoagy Carmichael song that Ray Charles made his own.
Dave Wallace is one third of Aquasky, as well as a founding member of Mad Dog and Fugitive. He also released his own EP’s on Moving Shadow and R&S in the 90’s and more recently an EP on TeeBee’s Subtitles label as well as a return to the rave with various Fugitive tracks and remixes on Vinyl Fanatiks over the past few years.
But one track has always alluded a release, there was always something that prevented it from being released. Originally written in 1995, it wasn’t until 1996 that he sent it to LTJ Bukem who went nuts for it, advising Dave to speed it up from its original 156bpm so he could play it. Upon doing so, it was also sent to Fabio and the pair of them played it on Kiss, Radio 1 and various gigs and festivals across the world. Dave was just in discussions to release it when Dillinja made a Bladerunner track using the same samples. In light of that and how the hierarchy worked in the 90’s drum and bass scene, Dave decided to pull the release and the track went back into the DAT draw… for 26 years!
This track has been requested by many to be pressed since Vinyl Fanatiks started as it had such a huge fanbase, so many people loved the track after hearing it either back in the day or on copies of mixes uploaded in recent years to the internet. An extremely desired track! But there was never a B-side to it… until Dave stepped into his Fugitive guise and brought the track up to date with one of the baddest basslines we have released on the label.

Tim Reaper cited My God as his favourite jungle tune so we had to see if he fancied remixing it for us. And we think this is possibly the best remix he has ever done - but we are biased somewhat!
Then on the flipside Da Big Dawgs came back to the kennel - the original Mad Dog hit the studio together for the first time in over 30 years. Dave Wallace and Shaun O'Hara absolutely loved doing this remix and working together again - so hopefully we will see more new music from them as either Mad Dog or Fugitive in 2026.

Im Frühjahr 2023 hatte ich meine eigene Solointerpretation komponiert und veröffentlicht, und ich ging davon aus, dass meine Arbeit mit der Komposition damit abgeschlossen sei. Allerdings unterschätzte ich ihre Anziehungskraft. Im folgenden Jahr war ich erneut davon eingenommen, nachdem ich von Andrew Cyr vom Metropolis Ensemble eingeladen worden war, auf der Grundlage meiner Arbeit mit dem Stück weiterzuentwickeln. Bald darauf war ich in Brooklyn, in einem neu gegründeten Team von sechs Personen, das von Cyr geleitet wurde. Im folgenden Jahr war ich erneut in seinen Bann gezogen worden, nachdem ich von Andrew Cyr vom Metropolis Ensemble eingeladen worden war, auf der Grundlage, die ich mit dem Stück geschaffen hatte, weiterzuarbeiten.
