French Psych-JAZZ-Soul-FUNK original soundtrack for initial soft erotic drama from 1973, later re-edited into "Sex Revolution" hardcore! "Jeu de Dames, la libération des femmes" (1973), a film by director Christian Lara, is a vaguely subversive charm flick that won't be remembered for a long time. An amusing detail, however, is that Georges de Caunes, father of Antoine de Caunes, the famous French TV personality, plays the lead role alongside Danielle Palmero. It's just one of a number of naïve films that, without being erotic, is sufficiently olé-olé that it failed to find a place in theaters on the traditional circuit. Faced with this commercial failure, the unscrupulous producer at the time, anxious to save his investments, decided to re-edit the film so that it could be screened in the X-rated circuit. He rechristened the film "Sex Revolution" in a more racy style, inserting more hardcore scenes to appeal to fans of the genre. Although Georges de Caunes is no longer credited on the poster or in the credits of "Sex Revolution", he finds himself, in spite of himself, promoted to lead actor in a porn movie, much to the delight of his son Antoine de Caunes, who is still dreaming 50 years later of finally being able to watch this forgotten masterpiece of the 7th art. The film seems to be a dud (pn: the author haven't seen it), but as for the music, Jean Claudric is particularly inspired and offers us one of the best French jazz funk soundtracks, which would not blush at the comparison with the best of the genre, such as Michel Legrand's "Un homme est mort", or Jean-Pierre Mirouze's "Le mariage collectif", previously released by Born Bad. Four short tracks, one with pyschedelic touches, the secomd more funky, the third a bit soul-jazzy, the fourth a French typical melancholic-melodic one makes a hot 7"-EP.

You can listen closely to singer- songwriter Julian Saporiti's lyrics, which juxtapose true stories of struggle from throughout Asia and its diaspora with Saporiti's own reckoning with intergenerational trauma.

LIVE AT THE QUEENS HOTEL MARGATE 1977 It was 1977 and things were progressing extremely well. We had signed to Beggars Banquet and our first single ‘Shadow’ b/w ‘Love Story’ had been released. John Peel had been playing both sides of the single most nights on his radio show, so we were getting heard by a lot of people. But we didn’t yet have a "proper" tour bus, so we all piled into a transit for the trip down to Margate with our tour manager Mike Stone in the driving seat. The Queens Hotel turned out to be a pretty good venue. There was a nice high stage which we much preferred over the low-slung platforms of some of the places we played. It meant that the crowd wasn’t totally swamping us the whole time, although there would still be a constant stream of people jumping on and off stage, bumping us, knocking equipment over and so forth. We weren’t sure if many people would turn up on a cold and windy night so close to Christmas, but it was a good turnout, and they were out for a good time too. There was none of the aggro stuff which would become a problem later on at our shows. The actual gig was typical of a Lurkers show at that time, being fairly chaotic with a lot of crowd "interaction". There is a recklessly fast version of ‘Pills’ on the recording, and I think we were playing ‘It’s Quiet Here’ for the first time live. Howard was on good form too; it would be his birthday on Christmas Day. My favourite quip from him is towards the end of the show when he says "eat your heart out Hank Marvin" after one of my more eccentric Shadows guitar intros. PETE STRIDE 2022

Drose is an experimental rock band from Columbus, Ohio, featuring the songwriting and voice of Dustin Rose. Their fevered, nihilistic new release, boy man machine+, combines their 2016 album of the same name with their debut 7", "a voice", and an assemblage of unreleased tracks — all freshly remastered by veteran engineer Carl Saff.

Dustin Rose calls boy man machine+ "an indictment of human consciousness." The music explores the torments of sentience through the sound of machines across the album, featuring slashing lines from guitarist Gregory Packet and bizarre drum patterns from John Mengerink. Discipline Through Sound 25 is the new album by Big'n, a noise-rock band from Chicago that formed in 1990. Die Vorproduktion zu "Ethik" begann Anfang diesen Jahres. Durch den plötzlichen Tod des Schlagzeugers Uli wurde diese jedoch unterbrochen, da emotional vorerst nicht an eine Weiterarbeit zu denken war.
Nach der Beisetzung schrieb André in Gedenken den Song "Abendmahl", welch half die emotionale Brücke zu überwinden und die Arbeit am neuen Album wieder aufzunehmen.
"Ethik" entstand schließlich ab Juni diesen Jahres im "Illuminiated Music Studio" des Produzenten Jörg Wartmann, und dem "Soundart Recording Studio" von Alexander Lysjakow. Im letzteren wurden unter anderem die Drums eingespielt. Diesen Part übernahm nach Ulis Tod Martin Winde.
Wie auch alle bisherigen ARTEFUCKT Alben spiegelt auch "Ethik" quasi einen Lebensabschnitt, verarbeitet erlebtes, reflektiert, schaut nach vorn, träumt, lacht, weint, liebt, hasst, teilt aus, steckt ein, erfreut, trauert, macht Mut…steckt einfach voller Emotionen und Leben.

Throughout their legendary, decade-long run, the Shadow Ring were an enigmatic force on the international musical sub-underground. Before their disbandment in 2002, this shambolic rock outfit, formed by a group of rowdy teenagers in southeast England, left behind a mighty run of eight LPs, a handful of 7"s, and a spate of raucous live shows and cryptic zine appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, all which have bolstered their enduring word-of-mouth mystique. Beginning this year with the first-ever vinyl pressing of the self-released pre-Shadow Ring tape The Cat & Bells Club (1992), Blank Forms Editions is conducting a systematic retrospective of the storied group, including a multi-year LP reissue effort and a forthcoming comprehensive CD box set and an over five hundred page book. Recorded in summer of 1994 at S.H.P studios (frontman Graham Lambkin’s parents’ home), the group’s sophomore record Put the Music In Its Coffin is a more sinister, saturnine affair than their debut City Lights. Coffin was many listeners’ introduction to the Shadow Ring, who had hitherto self-released their music, courting a steady stable of international fans through the magazine and mail-order catalog Forced Exposure. For their follow-up, the duo reached out to the ascending Philadelphia label Siltbreeze, whose eclectic roster of sneering, low-fidelity rock and noise connected disparate subterranean scenes from rust-belt America to the English Midlands, Dunedin, and beyond. As luck would have it, Siltbreeze proprietor Tom Lax was already a fan of the band’s first record and arranged to release both a 7” and their “difficult second album.” The connection proved to run deeper than vinyl within six months, Lax would pick up the pair from the airport for their spring 1995 US tour. This episode marked not only their first trip to the States but their first live performances at all, formally introducing the Shadow Ring to the American underground and solidifying the allure of the Folkestone pair. From the get-go, the record has a menacing, vile ambience. Its opening track “Horse-Meat Cakes,” inspired by an anecdote by pulp author Philip K. Dick about how he and his wife subsisted off low-grade pet food when he first arrived in San Francisco, sets the tone lyrically and sonically. Subsequent tracks are filled with Rabelaisian body horror and sinewy, haptic diction. “I try to pass out vital organs, convinced that they are waste,” intones Lambkin in “Heart, Liver & Lungs,” before a chorus of detuned guitars kicks in, nearly drowning out the speaker’s account of consuming chevaline intestines. Later songs similarly detail vernacular cooking (“Caribbean Porridge,” about a cornmeal hangover cure), bodily processes (“Nocturnal Middle Rumbles,” about nighttime defecation), and creaturely conflict (“Crystal Tears” and “Spin The Animal Dial”). The album’s makeshift percussion and teenaged rawness resembles the verve of City Lights, while its screeching strings and gnarly distorted vocals give it a sparse, miasmic atmosphere that look towards the uncompromising, otherworldly experimentation of the band’s Hold Onto I.D. (1996) and Lighthouse (1997), making this one of the Shadow Ring’s most distilled musical statements

Jdotbalance left the moon and the sky for a city that works. This is their first offering for the ESP Institute. On side A, 'Sublimate' combines two aspects of a digital pipe and mallet assortment—both as the percussive base for a groove, and as an interstitial layer where inherent resonances are massaged into melody. Bubbles and squeaks dance around the sound-stage periphery, occasionally pierced by high frequency statements, presenting as either ghostly yelps from the aether or as bursts of kaleidoscopic shards. Rogér Fakhr is a musician from Lebanon. He recorded these songs in the late 1970s in Beirut (and some during a brief exile in Paris). Some were circulated on hand copied cassettes among friends, others like "Had To Come Back Wet" were never released. His music effortlessly combines folk with touches of jazz and soul. He wrote, composed and arranged all songs. While working on his own music he also played for Ziad Rahbani, Fairouz and other musicians.

When we first heard Roger's music we were blown away! The music was a mixture of folk with touches of other genres. Maybe one could also refer to it as "singer-songwriter", since all of the songs were Roger's own compositions. Songs of unique beauty both musically as well as lyrically. At the same time they gave me the feeling of them being somehow time and space isolated capsules. Nothing really revealed, where they could've been recorded and without knowing it was Beirut, my first guess maybe would have rather been California, sometime in the 1970s. The immersive effect of his compositions and voice are just incredible. I was stunned and proposed Roger to work on a re-release, which he politely declined, saying he had no interest in this music being reissued.

On October 15th & 16th 2020, drummed Daniel Villarreal was joined by guitarist Jeff Parker and bassist Anna Butterss for two afternoons of recording in the backyard of Chicali Outpost in Los Angeles. For all three musicians, it was the first ensemble recording session they"d done in-person since the pandemic locked the world down just seven months prior. Some choice moments from the sessions made it onto Villarreal"s critically-acclaimed 2022 album Panamá 77, bust most of the music remained unreleased. Lados B is a deep dive into the high-level spontaneous music made by Villarreal, Parker and Butterss across those two days in 2020. Villarreal is heard leading the group through various rhythmic modes and structures for improvisation - flow as informed by the Latin soul of Fania Records as it is by the otherworldly trance of Brain Records - while Parker and Butterss draw on their extensive experience playing free together (as heard on Parker"s recently-released Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, and the LA side of Makaya McCraven"s 2018 LP Universal Beings) to build harmonic buoys for their spontaneous melodicism. The result is a beautifully vivid illustration of context, creativity, and collective composition from a particularly rich moment in history.

Before their disbandment in 2002, this shambolic rock outfit, formed by a group of rowdy teenagers in southeast England, left behind a mighty run of eight LPs, a handful of 7"s, and a spate of raucous live shows and cryptic zine appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, all which have bolstered their enduring word-of-mouth mystique. Beginning this year with the first-ever vinyl pressing of the self-released pre-Shadow Ring tape The Cat & Bells Club (1992), Blank Forms Editions is conducting a systematic retrospective of the storied group, including a multi-year LP reissue effort and a forthcoming comprehensive CD box set and an over five hundred page book. Recorded and self-released by the group's own Dry Leaf Discs in 1993, City Lights is the debut record of the then duo Graham Lambkin and Darren Harris_an assured arrival statement teeming with stripling angst and ambition. Lifelong chums Lambkin and Harris were barely nineteen and living at home in the seaside town of Folkestone, Kent, with few overhead expenses. The two were freshly employed as a forklift operator at a hardware store and an aide at a home for children with disabilities, respectively, affording them the time and funds to commit to a proper full-length release. Frontman Lambkin describes the album as a "microscopic examination of leisure activities, this time centered around a nightclub," a conceit surging through its lyrics, song titles, cover art (depicting an audience of cats and mice at the Leas Club, a Folkestone fixture), and flip side (replete with fictional bandmates and pseudonymous liner notes). On a recently-acquired secondhand guitar, Lambkin plays repetitive, brooding licks that form the record's backbone, weaving in and out of sync with Harris's free-form percussion and the pair's sing-song poetry. Tracks range from unraveling nursery-rhyme ditties to extended jams awash with Casiotone and toy piano noodling. The duo's musical hobby-horses work themselves in: the influence of Mark E. Smith's breathless deadpan, the headless outer-edges of ESP-Disk's back catalog, the eerie atmospherics of Hirsche Nicht Aufs Sofa, and the deconstructed rock tunes of the Dunedin scene are all detectable, although there is a sui generis quality to the Shadow Ring's artless temerity. "I've got to see and taste those city lights," intones Lambkin on the album's title track_indeed, this is a record of naked drive and pent-up desperation, and a shimmering glimpse of what's to come. Leon Keïta, eine feste Größe in der malischen Musikszene, wurde 1947 in Conakry an der Atlantikküste von Guinea geboren. Leon half bei der Gründung der legendären Rail-Band, die zu einer gefeierten Stütze des Nachtlebens in Bamako wurde und die internationalen Karrieren von Salif Keita, Mory Kanté u.v.a. begründete. Leon selbst schloss sich Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux an, mit denen er durch Westafrika tourte, bevor er sich der Arbeit an seinen eigenen Kompositionen zuwandte. Als Leon bereit war, ins Aufnahmestudio zu gehen, lud er seine Freunde von Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux ein, ihm als Begleitband zu dienen; aus dieser Zusammenarbeit gingen zwei Platten hervor, die beide 1978 auf dem Label Papa Disco veröffentlicht wurden. Ein Jahr später veröffentlichte Leon "Rythmes et Mélodies du Mali", das er gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Germain geschrieben hatte und das vom großartigen Orchestre Black Santiago begleitet wurde. Obwohl Leon nicht viele Soloaufnahmen gemacht hat, erwecken seine Lieder weiterhin die Verehrung aller, die das Glück haben, sie zu hören. In den letzten Jahren wurde der Song "Dalaka" von Carlos Estrada, dem Betreiber des Soundsystems in Barranquilla, wiederentdeckt und wurde zu einem unerwarteten Hit an der kolumbianischen Karibikküste. Zwölf Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung der von der Kritik hochgelobten Bambara Mystic Soul Compilation taucht diese neue Zusammenstellung erneut tief in die Mandingue-Kultur ein, die während Leon Keïtas legendären Sessions Ende der 70er Jahre aufgenommen wurden.

2012, 12 Jahre nach Gründung wagte sich das Freisinger Quintett RPWL an ihr erstes Konzeptalbum. 'Beyond Man And Time' war eine musikalische Reise durch die Welt außerhalb von Platons Höhle - und der erste Chart-Entry von Deutschlands bester Artrock-Band. Die Band schaffte Themen für die einzelnen Charaktere des Konzept-Albums. Orientalische Percussions, ausgedehnte Moog-Soli oder indische Sitar sorgen wohlplatziert für eine atmosphärische und farbenfrohe Umsetzung. So ist es nur natürlich, dass diese musikalische Reise in einem 16-Minuten-Werk wie 'The Fisherman' gipfelt, um schließlich mit einem äußerst nachdenklichen, ruhigen 'The Noon' zu enden'. Der Song 'Somewhere In Between', auf der CD noch mit 2.04 Min kurz gehalten, ist nun erstmalig in seiner Originallänge von 9.22 Min enthalten. Eine der dienstältesten, deutschen Oi-Punk Bands feiert ihr Jubiläum mit einem brandneuem Album… eigentlich haben sie es knapp verpasst: 41 Jahre HERBÄRDS, da darf man sich zurecht als "Alte Strassenköter" bezeichnen. 1982 gegründet, veröffentlichen die Stuttgarter mit "Eu se Bois" ihr Debutalbum, was zurecht bis heute als ungehobeltes, rotzfreches Kultalbum gilt. Das Nachfolgewerk "Wakos" bekam vom Label das Branding "German Oi Attacke" und nach einem schwerem Motorradunfall von Sänger "TEK" löste sich die Band auf, um kurz vor der Jahrtausendwende mit dem dritten Album "Wir sind zurück" reanimiert zu werden. 2017 dann ein neues Kapitel mit der Buchpräsentation und Ausstellung "Wie der Punk nach Stuttgart kam" und ein neues Lebenszeichen mit der Mini-LP "Oi! Oi! Oi!". Musikalisch "Back to the roots", begleitet von vielen Konzert- und Festivalauftritten, schrieben die Herbärds dann die neue offizielle Hymne des Eishockey-Teams "Stuttgart Rebels".
