Michael Hurley's first new studio record in 12 years features eleven songs recorded in Astoria, Oregon during the brief time of year when the foxgloves bloom. Hurley had been workshopping the set at home for the past few years. Friends and collaborators came into town and contributed from afar. The songs are lifted by violin, organ, upright bass, banjo, percussion - but at the center, of course, is the enigmatic Snock, whose songs have grown only more unique and more 57 years after his debut album (First Songs - Folkways, 1964). It could only be Snock. Heartbreaking, heartfelt, easy and carefree. The glorious opener “Are You Here For The Festival” – punctuated by a pair of violins – came to him while working in the garden. “Little Blue River” floats by on a cloud. The haunting “Jacob’s Ladder” sounds beamed in from another era. Or dimension. Foxgloves is as comforting and wonderful as any Hurley record that has come before it.

Northern Soul legend Lorraine Silver recorded Lost Summer Love when she was just 13 years old in August 1965. Whilst not a chart hit on its release, the track did become a massive anthem at the iconic Wigan Casino and was reissued on the Casino Classics label in the late 70s selling in excess of 30,000 copies. However, Lorraine knew nothing of her heroic Northern Soul status until the late 80s.

23 years after the original recording, Lorraine’s husband, agent Barry Collings, was reading Blues & Soul magazine which featured a top ten selection of favourite Northern Soul tracks that included Lost Summer Love. Lorraine called the editor and was flabbergasted to discover it really was her song. Following this, her story was told in a whole
selection of Northern Soul publications. She contacted the original record company PYE and was told that the track had sold some 34,000 copies worldwide and she could claim her royalties!

At around the same time Barry was involved in promoting Northern Soul weekends across the country and Lorraine was able to meet all the DJs who had been playing her record for years.
She was persuaded to get up and do a couple of PA’s of Lost Summer Love much to the delight of the audience who were queueing for autographs.

Since then, Lorraine’s resurrected career has gone from strength to strength, with airplay on BBC Radio 2, performances at Northern Soul events, and an appearance at the Edwin Starr Memorial Concert alongside the likes of Clem Curtis, Geno Washington, and Jaki Graham. In 2011 she was asked to join the line-up of a new touring show ‘The Mod All Star Band’ with artists she herself had idolised in the 60s including Steve Ellis and Chris Farlowe.

Now, at the age of 70, Lorraine continues to perform, record, and release new material in a career that now spans an incredible 57 years. Her brand-new single Fever Raging Out Of Control was produced by legendary Northern Soul DJ Ian Levine who has also produced pop hits for Take That including ‘A Million Love Songs’ and ‘Could It Be Magic’. The final mix of the track was done by Nigel Lowis who has also worked with Burt
Bacharach, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion to name just a few.

And…that original recording of Lost Summer Love, has now become quite the collector’s item, with a recent copy selling on eBay for some £700.00!

Records’ newest signing, and today presents his new album, ‘In
Plain Sight’, the follow-up to Francis’s 2019 debut, ‘Changes’, a
New Orleans-R&B-leaning effort that landed on Best Of The
Year lists from the likes of KCRW, KEXP and The Current, and
saw him hailed as “the reincarnation of Allen Toussaint” by BBC
Radio 6.
 After returning home from touring on the back of ‘Changes’,
Francis went through a breakup and found himself living in a
church, where he ended up writing a series of new songs about
honesty and resilience. “I’m owning up to all my problems within
my relationships and my sobriety,” he says. “So much of it is
about coming to the understanding that I continue to suffer
because of those problems. It’s about acknowledging that and
putting it out in the open in order to mitigate the suffering and try
to work on it, instead of trying to hide everything.”
 Francis and his bandmates recorded In Plain Sight entirely on
tape - and mostly in that same church - and the resulting songs
are dreamlike and reflective, anchored in the rock and soul
sound that has led critics to compare him to legends like Allen
Toussaint and Dr. John. ‘In Plain Sight’ was mixed by the
Grammy-winning producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips,
Tame Impala, MGMT).
 “There are hints of ’70s Brit Rock (including a very visceral
touch of Elton John) as well as New Orleans jazz-funk, gospel
soul, and some lighthearted Randy Newman - and the
amalgamation felt like a time-stamped treasure,” wrote the
Chicago Sun-Times on his recent hometown performance at
Lollapalooza. Early 2022 will see Francis embark on his first
ever UK and European tour.

When the band Trees Speak, coming out of nowhere, released an exclusive one-off 100-pressing white label 45, described as CAN/NEU! meets LIQUID LIQUID, it sold out so quickly (in less than 30 min) that Soul Jazz Records decided to release their album almost immediately.
Soul Jazz Records rarely release new music but found the music of TREES SPEAK’s album ‘OHMS’ so stunning and to have so many elements of music that they admired that they felt compelled to release it.
The group Trees Speak are from Tucson, Arizona and create new music that sounds like GERMAN KRAUTROCK meets NO WAVE/POST-PUNK and PSYCH ROCK – music for fans of CLUSTER, TANGERINE DREAM, CAN, NEU!, SILVER APPLES and early KRAFTWERK.
The album ‘OHMS’ sounds at times like a tripped out & moody JOHN CARPENTER/GOBLIN/MORRICONE soundtrack that seamlessly segues into propulsive, ‘motorik’ Krautrock instrumentals loaded with fuzzy, hypnotic mellotron, synths and analogue effects, as well as elements of ART ENSEMBLE free jazz, and all at times reaching a kind of post-rave psychedelia. More recent comparisons would include BEAK and GHOST BOX who draw upon similar themes and styles.
Trees Speak are Daniel Martin Diaz and Damian Diaz plus musicians from the Tucson, Arizona scene such as Giant Sand, XIXA and James Hunter. ‘Trees Speak’ relates to the idea of future technologies storing information and data in Trees and plants – using them as hard drives – and the idea that Trees communicate collectively.

ORDER was founded in 2013 by Anders Odden, Rene Jansen, Kjetil Manheim and Billy Messiah, the group respectively responsible for early-stage Norwegian death metal (Cadaver) and the origin of the Norwegian Black metal (Mayhem). In 2014, Jansen sadly passed away, leaving the project unrealized. The remaining members decided to move forward despite the setback. In 2015 Stu Manx (f. Gluecifer) joined the band and set the band back on its quest to make unpolished raw black metal for the 21st century. To honor Jansen the band released the demo tape ‘Folly Grandeur’ - with rehearsal recordings the following year - and the debut album ‘Lex Amentiae’.
It has been four long years since then, and they are now finally ready to release their long-awaited second studio album, ‘The Gospel’. This time showing the world what strong recipe the current lineup represent. While the band was very satisfied with their debut album, according to the band The Gospel is on a totally different level. “This time we have arrived at a place where the creative flow truly feels unique and to the core of ORDER”, Kjetil Manheim says and continues. “In The Gospel you will meet us on a very personal level. In this record we open ourselves and invite you into our innermost, both musically and through the lyrics. ASESINO (Spanish for "assassin" or "murderer") is an American deathgrind supergroup and a side project of Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares. The band has featured members of Brujeria, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Sadistic Intent, Possessed, Ministry, and Static-X. ASESINO sometimes play Slayer covers live, most notably "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood". As with Brujeria, the lyrics are sung entirely in Spanish and with the same subject matter of death, violence and perversion. Guitarist Asesino describes the band as "the new Brujeria." Asesino also has the tendency of making satirical comments during the show, and when playing Brujeria songs, change the original lyrics to something more fitting. ASESINO made a guest appearance as a group of Mexican doctors in episode 57 of ‘Metalocalypse' on 'Adult Swim'. ASESINO : ‘Cristo Satanico’ is the band most incisive, uncompromisingly horrific piece of work, now available with plenty of Exclusive studio and live bonus tracks. The band has been working on a new album for a 2022 release date.

are a DIY supergroup who describe themselves as sitting somewhere between Aqua, Beastie Boys and The Prodigy.
Their music endeavours feel akin to being hurtled through a kaleidoscopic waterslide, overflowing with the spirit of 90’s youth culture. The radioactive trio are DJ’s, musicians, songwriters and producers with a diverse range of individual projects and talents, their combined sonics map your journey across the hazy astral spectrum of hip-hop, big beat and rave music. Since slipping out on Leng last year, Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy’s first collaboration with singer/songwriter David Harks, ‘Susta’, has become a much-played modern Balearic classic, with DJs and listeners alike responding to the track’s attractive blend of sun-kissed nu-disco instrumentation, warming melodies and deliciously evocative lead vocals from Jaanika Leino AKA JaneLy. Now the track returns for 2021 in the shape of two superb new remixes from Chicagoan deep house legend Ron Trent, who four years ago delivered similarly ear-catching revisions of Mudd and Pollard’s ‘Far Away’ as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for Murphy’s Claremont 56 label.



As you’d expect given Trent’s impeccable track record over the last three decades, both revisions are stunning. He begins by eking every last ounce of soul from Leino’s brilliant vocal on a remix that’s warming, deep and luscious. Combining elements of Murphy and Harks’ colourful, synth-heavy original mix – including the lusciously tactile bassline and boogie-style synth flourishes – with his own yearning chords, hand percussion sounds and a shuffling, samba-tinged house beat, Trent re-imagines ‘Susta’ as a future vocal deep house classic. Melodious, musically intricate, infectious and summery, it’s a remix for the ages. It comes accompanied by a Dub Mix that successfully shows off the intricacy of Trent’s production and additional instrumentation while keeping both eyes firmly on the dancefloor. Beginning with effects-laden synth sounds reminiscent of the mid-‘80s proto-house classics by Paul Simpson, Winston Jones and Boyd Jarvis, the mix sees Trent skilfully add selected snippets of Leino’s lead vocal to a backing track rich in delay-laden synthesizer sounds, reverb-rich chords, echoing percussion hits and chords so warming they feel like a late-night, loved-up bear hug for your ears. Like the A-side vocal version, Trent’s dub is breath-taking and spine-tingling in equal measure.

Nashville’s Caitlin Rose celebrates the 10-year Anniversary of
her debut album ‘Own Side Now’ with a deluxe, fully remastered
version.
Rose released ‘Own Side Now’ in 2011 to instant acclaim from
critics, who praised her crystal-clear vocals and her ingenious
lyricism - equal parts heartbroken and defiant - and compared
her to her musical heroes Stevie Nicks and Linda Rondstadt.
This deluxe Anniversary edition of the incredible ‘Own Side
Now’ is pressed on cloudy clear vinyl with an embossed
gatefold sleeve including a hologram ‘80s style sticker, a lyric

Caitlin says of 7” bonus track ‘Whatchoo’: “This album came out
of a city that didn’t need people telling it who it was. ‘Whatchoo’

Album track ‘Shanghai Cigarettes’ is a break-up song featuring
Rayland Baxter, about which American songwriter wrote,
“Rose’s vocals are so sweet and the beat is so contagious, you
might be tempted to break up with your beau just to have an
excuse to listen to it on repeat.”

In it's small satellite town of Flint lived Rick Hickman, a blues guitarist influenced by both these traditions. Rick channeled these influences into cutting his own 45 on the private press Special Edition Records label. And that’s where he expected it to end.

Fast forward to 2020 and the cut is re-discovered by a rare soul and jazz connoisseur Des Cridland who immediately alerts the Acid Jazz crew, knowing they’re always on the lookout for super rare cuts to reissue. Eddie Piller span the record on his Eclectic Soul Show and the response was phenomenal so much so Acid Jazz jumped at the chance to put this out again!

Avant-garde jazz drummer Rashied Ali played with John Coltrane up until his death in 1967, appearing on final recordings like The Olatunji Concert and Interstellar Space. After Coltrane's death, Ali soon formed his own quartet, with Fred Simmons on piano, Stafford James on bass violin and Carlos Ward on alto sax and flute. The quartet's first release, New Directions In Modern Music, released on Ali's own Survival Records in 1973, exploded onto the free jazz scene, influencing the likes of Don Cherry and Archie Shepp (as well as many outside the jazz idiom), becoming a kind of manifesto for avant-garde music of the period.

Marta Gabriel is known as the front woman of heavy metal power force CRYSTAL VIPER, who recently released a brand new studio album, „The Cult”. Except that she’s a seasoned session musician, and either was a a guest on albums, or appeared on stage with acts as VADER, MANILLA ROAD, JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR, MAJESTY and WITCH CROSS. Technically, ”Metal Queens” is her first solo album, although it’s a very unusual release. „Metal Queens” is a celebration and tribute to female singers and female fronted heavy metal acts of the ‘80s. More dancefloor dynamite from Benin's almighty Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou Dahomey, this time in the form of 'Gbeti Ma Djro'. Confusingly described on the centre label of the 1971 original issue as ’Soul’, this is in fact a prime slice of Afro-psych-funk complete with wails and grunts over fierce drums and picked guitar. 'Angelina II’ is a much warmer affair that rides a shuffling mid-tempo pachanga groove. Both tracks were transferred, restored and mastered from the original 1/4 inch tape.

Three years ago Danish guitar player and highly acclaimed session musician Jacob Gurevitsch made his solo debut with 'Lovers In Paris', a sweetly melancholic single which conquered sunsets worldwide and earned a place in many quality compilations and has over 10 million views on Youtube. Roll forward to 2018 and this stunning track now heads up the Danish guitarist's first vinyl album, on Kenneth Bager's renowned Music For Dreams label. The original album of 'Lovers In Paris' album entered the iTunes chart at #1 position in Denmark and was (back then) being hailed as one of the Records of the Year by the Balearic Community. And the success story continues. With over 2 million monthly streams Jacob Gurevitsch is a name to watch.

This vinyl debut album 'An Introduction' consists of selected works from the 'Lovers In Paris album, a few from his 'Cinematica' Ep and some from his forthcoming album 'In Search Of Lost Time.'

'Mexican Margarita' is a truly impressive piece of guitar work with superb bongos and bass - already an essential tune for any Balearic collector - and the recently released single 'Spanish Inquisition' a current DJ Harvey fave, shows his technical and compositional ante into the world of Flamenco. 'Mapa De Soledad' and 'Poesia Del Mar' both gorgeous and moving Mediterranean-flavoured ballads full of emotional keyboards, soulful strings and accordions. The indelible upbeat of 'Motive Loco' and elegiac cinematic 'In Search Of Lost Time' remains memorable long after listening and this hits the nail on the head.

Jacob Gurevitsch the guitar player and composer has a unique sensibility to write themes and melodies that transcend time and sound like divine interventions.

York Pennsylvania born and raised, R&B vocalist Carman Bryant has performed throughout the U.S. and all over the world. There’s a saying in the Harrisburg/York Pa.area “If you want a seat, you better get there early” for a performance by Carman and her band.
Carman's recording "Midnight Star” is an unreleased recording that was produced many years ago by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The original studio masters were lost when Cecil moved to England because Teddy Pendergrass stopped performing. "Take a Chance" is a duet by Doug Payne and Carman from the same recording sessions at Alpha International Studios that was located in South Philadelphia. This was during the time that Doug Payne was on the "We are Family" tour with Philly recording group "Sister Sledge''. Doug Payne is a graduate of Howard University Washington D.C., and Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art in New York City, this is the same school that was used for the movie and television series "FAME" starring Debbie Allen and Irene Cara. Doug had two songs signed with TSOP Gamble & Huff's publishing that were selected to be recorded by Phyliss Hyman before her death. In 1981 Doug Payne started his own label in Philadelphia with the release of "HOLIDAY" by Doug Payne & Polygon.
Carman and her son Terrell Bryant aka Nakuu both have been busy lately
recording new music to hit the scene around the same time.Terrell Bryant is
the son of Jason Bryant who started The SOS Band.
Doug's wife June Payne is a former member of Philadelphia recording group The "Three Degrees".

In view of the immense Black Lives Matter mobilisation in reaction to the murder of George Floyd and the comparatively meagre societal reaction to the attack in Hanau, the question arises: How come our society does not show the same empathy and solidarity towards its own fellow citizens with Kurdish, Turkish, Bulgarian, Bosnian, Afghan migrant backgrounds or members of the Roma and Sinti?

How limited is our postcolonial discourse if we are unable to address the racist exploitation of those who repair our cars, deliver our parcels or harvest our asparagus?

It’s all a sham. Shake it off like a biometric photograph. Shake off that false consciousness. The Black Diaspora is a transatlantic lie invented by music curators and journalists. Embrace this nuanced return to structures and superstructures, to articulations and historical constellations as analytical tools.

Allow me to dampen your expectations. This is not the sound of decolonisation. This is no compilation of BLM protest songs. This is no celebration of Black emancipatory struggles. You will not be able to play this at your hip post-pandemic house party. This will not go down well with your woke friends. This is music for the square in the room. For that reluctant BAME/Person of Color repelled by your fetishisation of the African-American experience.

This is music for gated communities. This is Fehler Kuti singing of class relations, not of identities and positionalities. This is Fehler Kuti resisting.

Listen to these songs of infrastructure and appraisal of the welfare state. Join me in mourning the broken promises of prosperity for all. Send that “Ausländer“ of your mind to heaven. Colonialism fucked you up. Platform Capitalism is keeping you in chains. Are we to unionise all human and non-human workers at Amazon? Will modernity always have that "forever nigger“? What about those dispossessed field hands harvesting your asparagus?

All is lost. The system is rigged. Because all histories, gestures and identities have been absorbed into this late capitalist apparatus we call diversity. It can integrate anything and anyone. It made me. It is the price of the ticket. And it is unable to challenge its own premise of an atomised society. As if you and I had so little in common.

They will try and help you. They will build a museum for your history and a scholarship program for your future. I warn you. Don‘t let them give you a name. Resist appellation. Don’t get that German passport. Don‘t eat asparagus.

Die meisten der für dieses Album ausgewählten Tracks sind Aufnahmen, die mit einem einfachen Stereo- (2-Track) Kassettenrecorder aufgenommen wurden. Die Situation im Studio sah dann ungefähr so aus: Drumcomputer (ohne Midi) und Sequenzer waren miteinander verbunden, liefen somit rhythmisch synchron. Die darin eingestellten Tonfolgen und Rhythmen wurden dann meist manuell mit Hilfe der Tastaturen auf die jeweilige gewünschte Tonhöhe transponiert. Oft wurden während dieses Ablaufs noch weitere Instrumente dazu live gespielt. Dabei wurden mit Hilfe eines Mischpults die Summe aller Tonquellen für die Aufnahme in einer Art "Live Recording" zusammengemischt. Da man bei einem Fehler immer wieder von vorne anfangen musste, und viele der Klänge nach dem Verstellen der Regler nur mit viel Akribie wieder hergestellt werden konnten, kamen mit der Zeit viele Kassetten zusammen, oft mit endlos langen und verschiedenen Versionen des gleichen Titels. Cinthie’s we_r house imprint returns with its twelfth release

Over the past few years Cinthie’s we_r house has played host to material from the likes of Kevin Over, Manuold, Elgo Blanco and Simon
Shaw to name a few, the imprint continues to push house sounds
with a stripped-back, groove driven inclination. Here this continues
in fine form with German trio Burkhardt, Meat and Wood under
their collective BMW guise.

There is no single way that London trio Urne describe their sound, it all comes back to one thing: heavy. There are shades of Metallica, Mastodon, Alice In Chains in there, hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore and anything else with a weighty heart.  On their debut full-length, ‘Serpent & Spirit’, this is writ large as the work of one of the finest new bands in the British metal underground.  Featured on Metal Hammer’s ‘ones to watch 2021’ and ex-members of Hang The Bastard. When Fleetwood Mac released their first live album in December 1980, it captured the legendary band’s most iconic lineup on stage demonstrating the full scope of their collective, creative powers. Recorded mostly during the world tour for Tusk, Fleetwood Mac Live delivered a double-album’s worth of exhilarating performances that included massive hits like “Dreams” and “Go Your Own Way,” “Rhiannon,” and “Don’t Stop.”
