Das Debütalbum von Leroi Conroy, das zu gleichen Teilen von der Sensibilität des goldenen Hip-Hop-Zeitalters und verlorenen Filmszenen aus den 60er und 70er Jahren geprägt ist, wiegt schwer und hat Jahre der Entwicklung hinter sich. Die ersten beiden Tracks des Albums wurden 2017 als 45er veröffentlicht und in den folgenden Jahren von DJ Premier, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Macklemore, Phantogram und vielen anderen gesampelt. Aber nach der Veröffentlichung verbrachte Terry Cole alias Leroi Conroy einen Großteil seiner Zeit damit, sein Indie-Soul-Label Colemine Records zu vergrößern und Platten für andere zu produzieren (Okonski, Parlor Greens, Wesley Bright, BlackMarket Brass, Kendra Morris, Rudy De Anda, Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, Andrew Gabbard), anstatt seine eigenen zu machen. Jetzt, acht Jahre nachdem viele der Rhythmustracks auf dem bewährten Tascam 388 aufgenommen wurden, erscheint Leroi Conroys Debüt-LP, "A Tiger's Tale". Das Album ist als hypothetischer Soundtrack zu einer alternativen Erzählung von Rudyard Kiplings The Jungle Book konzipiert. Die Erzählung ist das Bestreben des Menschen, die Natur zu zähmen und sie seinem Willen zu unterwerfen... und die Antwort der Natur. Das Album ist eine Mischung aus triumphalen Instrumentalpartituren und absolut düsteren, dunklen und manchmal dissonanten Moodytracks. Das zugrundeliegende Element der Hip-Hop-Sample-Kultur ist durchweg offensichtlich, und es besteht kein Zweifel, dass viele dieser Tracks in den kommenden Jahren geflippt werden. Klanglich reiht sich die Platte nahtlos in die Reihe vieler anderer Colemine Instrumentalisten ein: dreckige Lo-Fi-Drums, schmetternde Bläser, Wah-Gitarre, Hammond-Orgel und jede Menge cineastische Einsprengsel wie Flöte, Nylongitarre und Vibraphon. Das Schlagzeug stammt von Coles langjährigem Mitarbeiter Rob Houk und ist das Rückgrat des Albums. A tangle of word and melody, old and new, NIGHTJAR evokes journeys along ghostly paths, country lanes and starlit shorelines, alive with shimmering patterns of a flowing tide. Stories of childhood, of loves and rivalries, fair maidens, cruel sisters and winged sorcerers are interwoven with glimpses of the natural world. NIGHTJAR is Liz Overs' debut solo release, having previously been signed to Atlantic in the late '90s as part of indie-dance crossover band Pocket Size, and she was also lead singer and songwriter for the Sussex-based folk band Chalk Horse Music.
Liz's haunting, unaccompanied version of The Birds in the Spring was featured in Dylan Howitt's award-winning documentary The Nettle Dress, and she performed live at several key screenings of the film in the UK.

"Dame café", originally released on Discos Fuentes in 1965 to meet the tropical music demand of the time, features a mix of traditional rhythms like vallenato and cumbia, alongside more experimental beats. The vibrant musical scene of the 1960s in Colombia owes much to a group of versatile accordionists who blended genres such as cumbia, charanga, guaracha, vallenato, and Cuban-influenced rhythms. This group included notable figures like Andrés Landero, Aníbal Velásquez, Lisandro Meza, and Alfredo Gutiérrez, among others. A prime example of their diverse musical styles is the album "Dame café", released in November 1965, which features a mix of traditional rhythms like vallenato and cumbia, alongside more experimental beats such as paseaíto and pasaje. The album includes six previously released singles composed by José Castro, Policarpo Calle, and others. The album highlights the commercial strategy of Discos Fuentes, which often created short-lived studio bands to meet the tropical music demand of the time. Los Gavilanes de la Costa, the band behind "Dame café", had a brief existence but left a lasting impact, especially in Mexico's sonidero scene. The group's creation was driven by the high demand for tropical music in the 1960s, with many musicians adjusting to market trends. Most of the members, including composers Campillo and Castro, vanished from the scene, while others, like Calle and Zambrano, went on to have notable careers in music. Calle, in particular, became a cumbia legend, later settling in Mexico City. The album "Dame café" has gained cult status due to its rarity and the intrigue surrounding its origins. The album features a remarkable contribution from Colombian jazz legend Justo Almario, who, at just 16 years old, played tenor sax on the track 'Pues no da pa' más'. Over the years, pirate editions and elusive original copies have made it a highly sought-after collector's item. The album's lively sound, combining accordion melodies, deep bass, and vibrant guacharaca rhythms, continues to resonate in the tropical music scene.

Madteo is one of the great eccentric visionaries of Electronic Music and his new album Misto Atmosferico E Ad Azione Diretta on Unsure once more happens to be a mind-bending piece of art. Misto Atmosferico E Ad Azione Diretta shifts between focused gritty grooves and the long freeform associative adventures that you haven't heard before, never static, sometimes overwhelming, always on edge.
The opener Cans People is an archaic rave monster, To Know Those Who is non-linear dub techno, Nocturnal Palates expands the Filter House universe and Rave Nite Itz All Right hits you hard and strange (yet subtle, in a way). The last two tracks then let loose; Madteo manipulates time, space and sounds to create the psychedelic secrets of Luglio Ottantotto. And Emo G (Sticky Wicket) explores the outskirts not only of House or Techno or whatever but music in general, a 15-min-trip through the low frequencies, the rumble, the dark hearts and the enchantment. Theo Mindell's voice bears some resemblance to Blackie Lawless' and while W.A.S.P. isn't the first band that comes to mind when thinking of doom metal and stoner rock, his voice fits the music perfectly. The production is spot-on, guiding the listener's thoughts to the sound of Master Of Reality while still sounding modern.

"Capricorn" is not only very different from the modern metal albums, but also has a character of its own. You would be able to say which song is which after just one listen. The great thing about this EP is that it takes all these 70s influences and makes, dare I say it, something just as amazing, if not even better! I only have one real complaint: It's too short. Auch wenn man sowieso bald wieder ran muss - nur für einen Moment spüren, die Macht zu haben alles lahm zu legen, hörten einfach alle auf: Wertschöpfung, Broligarchie, Kaufland, Deutschland. pogendroblem haben sich also nochmal zusammengerauft und ein neues Album gemacht. Drei Jahre für ein neues Album? In der Tat: Great Resignation. Oder zu wenig die Brotjobs gekündigt? Ästhetisch nochmal diversifiziert und dennoch aus einem Guss, entstanden unter Regie von Gregor Hennig im Studio Nord Bremen, gemischt von Daniel Roesberg und gemastert von Christian Bethge. Musikalisch klarer und pointierter als zuvor. Obviously punk, poppige Niedlichkeit, Garage Vibes, bisschen Hamburger Schule, bisschen Kraut, etwas düsterere Gitarren und natürlich Brotschneidemaschine durch FX geballert. Wahrscheinlich Post-Punk. Doch Achtung, das ist keine Neue Neue Deutsche Welle! Große Resignation! Die große Traurigkeit zieht sich durch die Platte hindurch, auch in den auf den ersten Blick lustigen Liedern. Denn hier sind sich pogendroblem treu geblieben, es geht um absurde Alltagsgeschichten, um Subjektivierung, die nicht mehr zu funktionieren scheint. Um Fragmentierung von Gesellschaft, Arbeitsbeziehungen, der Linken. Wie durch die Zeit der Monster (Antonio Gramsci) navigieren, fragen pogendroblem. Wie weiter machen gegen Faschisierung und Klimakrise? Lösungsansätze werden diskutiert und ausprobiert. Es ist klar: Es kann nicht immer so weitergehen.

Grown through collaboration, Samuel Savenberg’s EP As Bright as a Burning Star stands for a music that evolves and becomes newly tangible in the very moment of performance.
The live EP captures a concert by Savenberg and his band, recorded at the 2024 B-Sides Festival on Sonnenberg near Lucerne. In this setting, the concert with his close musical companions takes on a life distinct from the studio recordings it draws upon, casting the music in a new light: more immediate, vibrant, and warmer.
As Bright as a Burning Star features newly interpreted pieces from Unsung—Savenberg’s 2023 album released via Präsens Editionen—alongside two new songs. The title track had existed in a similar form since 2016 but had never been released—until it was rediscovered by chance during preparations for the concert. The second new piece, "Expressions of Regret", features vocals by Remo Helfenstein, a longtime friend and fellow Präsens Editionen artist.
As Bright as a Burning Star is a labor of love—shaped by shared musical histories and lasting friendships. It is available on cassette tape, for streaming and as a digital release via Präsens Editionen.

Samuel Savenberg is a composer and producer based between Lucerne and Berlin. Following the release of Unsung in 2023, he has presented selected remixes and live performances—the latter mostly in a band setup—and collaborated with other artists, taking on a variety of roles.

Founded in 2011 in the process of launching zweikommasieben, Switzerland-based publishing house and music label Präsens Editionen has released music on vinyl, cassette, CD, and digital formats—alongside magazines, books, and other printed matter. Audio releases include works by Anna Homler, Robert Turman, Belia Winnewisser, Samuel Reinhard, Martina Lussi, and Magda Drozd & Nicola Genovese’s Sopraterra.

For this one on his own superb Scruniversal label he turns his attention to the lush sound world of City Pop over in Japan. On one vital 12" the maestro cooks up six varied but equally vital sizzlers starting with the funky sounds and big brass of 'One For Xsuxsu' then taking in the blissed out disco and house beats of 'Kyoto Sunshine', jazzy keys of 'Horomi & Rikishi', funky bass twangs of 'Secret Dream' and jazz lunge excellence of 'Nippon Bossa' before 'Scrutinised Tune' closes out with brown beats and sunny chords. Scruperb stuff.

I think I call it “Haifisch”, the german word for shark. Why? I don’t know. I think it sounds like an electrified diving animal!

Sparks, brothers Ron and Russell Mael, are back with their 28th album 'MAD!' on May 23rd 2025, their first release with Transgressive Records Most acts, by their seventh decade in the biz, would have slowed to a crawl, creakily playing their past hits on the heritage circuit and releasing nothing more than the occasional Greatest Hits collection. This is not the case for Sparks, who have triumphantly returned yet again, proving their resilience and relevance in a modern world with a fresh record and summer world tour to accompany it.

1982 4-Piece Demo' is the first official, fully-licensed and unreleased material to be released under the name Strawberry Switchblade in 30 years. Since disbanding amid major record label acrimony and personal differences in 1986, the already-cult band have since grown in stature and legend. Trailblazers in many ways, the band's mythology justifiably centers around the charismatic duo of Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall, but that isn't a complete picture. Bryson and McDowall's growing friendship, having met some years earlier on the punk scene, became a creative partnership: Bryson's art school background and McDowall's history in avant-punk group The Poets meant Strawberry Switchblade was a band pitted against many established norms. The band's very first incarnation, an all-female 4 piece, recorded one demo at Glasgow's Hellfire Club and played a handful of gigs. Friends Janice Goodlett and Carole McGowan completed the line up on bass and drums respectively. Strawberry Switchblade would eventually pair down to a duo and go on to chart success but it's in these raw, passionate recordings that the songwriting and vocal elements were being hammered out and explored in real time.


Spanish Song' is a previously unreleased song. With Rose McDowall's instantly recognizable lead vocal dovetailing with Bryson's harmonies and lead guitar, it's the first glimpse at an alternative history of Strawberry Switchblade. This incarnation could easily have been featured on a Nuggets compilation or a precursor to the indie-pop revolution that would take over British bedrooms a couple of years later. "Trees & Flowers" is instantly recognizable, a bona fide classic that would earn the band its first record deal. Here it's given a more forceful rhythm section: Goodlett and McGowan's playing is in fact accomplished and doesn't hint at the bands' youth. "Go Away" would also surface later on the band's debut LP but here it is a moody-garage stomper with a psychedelic, haunting refrain. These 3 songs point to a tantalizing future of the band that was never realized.

became an unexpected hit on Tik Tok and introduced a new generation to these timeless songs.

American post-disco/R&B trio Surface were a New Jersey vocal group made up of Bernard Jackson, David Townsend and David Conley. The majesty of boogie ballad "Falling In Love" was their first single, released in 1983 on Salsoul Records. The mellow magic of this track is loved the world over; it's a feel-good smooth boogie jam that's forever coveted. The slick, crystal clear beat, the legendary minimoog bassline, the melody, Karen Copeland's superb vocal, the great flute solo (referenced on the cover) all of it is literally perfect and beautifully encapsulates that mid 80s international club vibe. This here is the original Shep Pettibone mix in its entirety - it's the only one you really need.

Flip for the legendary "Love Mix" of 1987 hit single “Happy". You all know the original. At least, you *should* all know it. But the "Love Mix" is a deconstructed, boldly produced mix which is the one the heads have turned to for so long. Yet, in our opinion, its hypnotic groove has flown under the radar for too many years. This killer remix begins with Jackson's spine-tingling isolated vocal, cleverly subverting expectations by actually delivering the first words of the original's second verse "You must be Heaven sent...Sent into my life...And I compliment you baby...Baby" before a heavy 808 drum kicks hard with echoey handclaps. It's super sparse and a dubbed out slow-mo boogie banger like no other. The synth bass, atmospheric synth pads and synthesized flute glide in and out with effortless style and the whole thing is a wonder to behold.

It's a slow jam, for sure, but crafted in the straight up funk tradition, using the digital tools of the day and this sparser than sparse version almost sounds like a precursor to UK Street Soul. A unique combination of undeniable funk, electro beats and an earnest, youthful tenor; it should be slamming out of every jeep forevermore.

Simon Francis remastered the original audio for both tracks and Cicely Balston's precise cut for Alchemy at AIR Studios ensures this 12" well and truly slaps. The Mystery Lights 2nd outing on Daptone's rock subsidiary, Wick, sees them digging deeper into their cavern of influences, taking on tips from Suicide, The Kinks and Television as they look to build on their already party fuelled, raucous sound.

The Mystery Lights story begins in 2004 in the small town of Salinas California when friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso -whose shared fondness for groups like The Mc5, Velvet Underground, Dead Moon, and The Fall (just to name a few) -decided to join forces and craft their own brand of unhinged rock and roll. From there they spent the better part of 10 years touring relentlessly before migrating to Queens, New York in 2014.

With a live show known for its raw, visceral energy and relentless assault –leaving little to no stoppage between songs –they barreled through countless NYC haunts and DIY venues, quickly amassing a fervent local following. The buzz soon caught the attention of Daptone Records execs who were in the beginning stages of launching a new rock-centric imprint, Wick Records. Impressed by the groups’ musicianship, groove, endless supply of energy, and understanding of musical history the Mystery Lights were quickly signed to Wick. Though a rock band at heart, the parallels to what Daptone Records had traditionally looked for in their Soul artists was undeniable. Soon sessions were booked with Producer/Engineer Wayne Gordon, and the release of their debut single “Too Many Girls” b/w “Too Tough to Bear” launched to mass critical fanfare.

Upon the release of their self-titled full-length on June 24th 2016 The Mystery Lights were quickly crowned “one of New York’s finest garage rock bands” by NME. Extensive touring, including multiple stops in Europe, Asia and Australia followed which found the group graduating from support slots at hole-in-the-wall clubs to headlining stages at major festivals worldwide.

After two years of break-neck, non-stop touring, the group settled back into Queens to prepare for their second full-length record, Too Much Tension(out May 2019). With Wayne Gordon in the producer’s chair and several intense writing sessions under their belt the group were back at Daptone’s House of Soul and ready to track. While keeping the hard-hitting approach of the first LP, Too Much Tension finds the group digging deeper into their well of eclectic influences, enriching their sound without echoing the past. Mixing the eerie, insistent synth sounds of groups like The Normal and Suicide, the energy and swagger of punk’s golden age, the pop sensibility of The Kinks, and the stark, deliberate execution of Television -The Mystery Lights are taking their idiosyncratic brand of rock and roll to dizzying new heights.

The album "Tomat EP" is a brave experiment with rethinking the soundtracks of Soviet cinema and Polish jazz of the second half of the 20th century from the recognized hero of the new house wave Thierry Tomas. Zhenya's releases regularly get into the highlights of the main music stores and streaming, and some of his tracks permanently participate in the charts and sets of artists of the rank of Phil Weeks, Atjazz, Demuir, Sandy Rivera and more.

Especially for Minor Notes, Zhenya collected 4 dance novels, tending to jazz and club music at the same time. Track called "August" opens the record as an ode to the beauty of the city shrouded in the colors of the approaching autumn.

Hipan "Shaking" moves the listener to an imaginary dance floor of the psychedelic 70s, fantasizing about the fusion of a powerful modern groove and a bright trip of that time.

The madcap "Signor Pomidor" is the soundtrack to the hooligan life of the eponymous character from the cartoon «Chippolino», if he were a club punk.

Well, "Double Bass" effectively completes the release with a fantasy on the theme of the atmosphere of a classical jazz club with a curtain of smoke and subdued light.

This record has been prepared for more than a year and a half and means a lot to us. This is jazzy deep and a little funky house, which will take its rightful place in your collection and confidently break into any of your bar or club sets. Peace to all!

Located in rural Destelbergen (Belgium), just a stone's throw from Ghent, Boccaccio has secured its place among legendary venues like Paradise Garage in New York and The Hacçinda in Manchester. Its bold fusion of emerging electronic genres such as New Beat, Acid, House, and Techno was way ahead of its time, drawing music lovers and clubbers from across Belgium and beyond. Sundays at Boccaccio were unlike anywhere else-offering sounds you couldn't hear anywhere else.

Boccaccio Life 1987-1993 is carefully curated by resident DJ Olivier Pieters and club regular Stefaan Vandenberghe, standing as the ultimate testament to a club that was more than just a venue. For those who experienced it, it was a community - a way of life. Hence the club's full name: Boccaccio Life.

This compilation stands as a testament to an innovative time in electronic music, capturing the raw, futuristic sounds of early house and techno. It sheds light on another side of Boccaccio, one that goes far beyond the short-lived New Beat scene. A carefully curated selection of 40 tracks, resonating with those who were there by offering familiar classics, while also reaching a new generation-those who never experienced it firsthand.

With tracks from Blake Baxter, Virgo, Frankie Knuckles, Tyree, and A Guy Called Gerald, the unmistakable influence of black American pioneers is clear-the originators of the firstanalog house and techno sounds. On the other hand, UK sound innovators such as The Orb and LFO bring both sharp textures and rough breakbeats to the table.

Club staple tracks include dreamy excursions from Roger Sanchez under his Egotrip moniker, the relentless basement house of Circus Bells by Robert Armani on Dance Mania, an uplifting take on a hip-house cut from The D.O.C. (Portrait of A Masterpiece in the CJ Ed-Did-It Mix), a timeless remix of UK Formation's Age of Chance from 1994, and an alternate take on The Tape by Boccaccio club regular and Belgian producer Frank De Wulf, taken from his B-Sides project.

While not always the obvious hits, these tracks have gracefully withstood the test of time, and were exclusive to Sundays at Boccaccio. Now, they are finally available to experience together in one collection, offering a timeless snapshot of a unique era.

A long-time best-seller of the MEG-AIMP collection and long out of print, this album of sanza music recorded among the Gbaya people of the Central African Republic by ethnomusicologist Vincent Dehoux was originally released on CD in 1993. It is now being reissued on vinyl and CD to coincide with the exhibition Afrosonica - Soundscapes. It features a selection of 'songs for thought': an intimate repertoire conducive to introspection, accompanied by the repetitive, meditative sound of lamellaphones.

Released in 2018, the Original Blunted Breaks Vol.1 compilation was a landmark release in the future jungle revival, collating the sounds of the rapidly emerging underground in long player format and extending the reach of the modern productions beyond the clubs and hardcore vinyl enthusiasts, to the likes of BBC Radio 6, with guest Dead Man’s Chest mix and album feature on Tom Ravenscroft’s show.

In the ensuing years, contemporary jungle music has continued to gain in popularity with a rapidly expanding global influence and reaching younger audiences who’ve adopted it as the sound of now.

West Grand has been set up to mine the deep vaults of mighty Motown courtesy of a licence deal with Universal Music.

The first West Grand LP fuses two musical religions, Motown and Northern Soul.

In some ways they are unlikely bedfellows. Motown became known as Hitsville by churning out hit after hit, while Northern Soul passion is fired by a constant search for the unknown and the obscure.
The 16 tracks here - on incredibly the first Motown various artists vinyl album released worldwide for 40 years - join the dots. All of them were recorded in the 1960s. None of them were released at the time, despite being prime examples of the sublime magic conjured up by Berry Gordy’s genius-like team of singers, writers, producers, arrangers and musicians at that tiny little snakepit of a recording studio on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit.

Motown authority Adam White’s album sleeve notes confirm just how productive that studio was. It often ran 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As a result, lots of the most sublime music ever made was somehow rejected for release. It would have stayed unknown and unloved in tape boxes if it had not been for detective work by Soul aficionados turned detectives. That’s Northern Soul power. Many were DJs and collectors tracking down cassette copies or acetates (some of them found in rubbish skips and about to be destroyed). Others, notably Paul Nixon, the founder of the CD series A Cellarful Of Motown! which inspired this album, badgered the Motown gatekeepers so much they were eventually granted access to the forbidden kingdom.

Over recent years all the tracks contained here have been released—some bootlegged, some on legitimate seven-inch issues, some on CD, one download-only. The album proudly boasts debut vinyl release for some in the collection. All have been remastered and have never sounded better.

As a homage to Motown music makers + Rare Soul fanaticism, WEST GRAND believe we have come up with a classic.

Vyvyan is Bonar Bradberry’s solo project stripping club music to its core while expressing a deep love for dance music culture. His 2022 debut album, Y, balanced rough-edged percussion with warped melodies. "Waterslide EP" pushes this sound further with Gallegos stepping in to remix the monumental title track.

Bradberry is also known for his work as one half of the Leeds-based duo PBR Streetgang.

With this new EP called "Last Night A Bassline Saved My Life", again released on Unsure, Stefan Schwander further refines the philosophy and sound of his latest concept While My Sequencer Gently Bleeps. Following his idea of reduction Schwander used only the Elektron Monomachine to shape four amazing tracks, beautifully balanced, searching for the perfect groove, stripped of all unnecessary.
"Compromise", the first track, may even be a reminiscence to Schwanders legendary releases as Antonelli Electr, supertransparent and supercrisp, yet still warm, deep and human, an understated wonder of a track! "Persona" and the title track got those dubby chords and effective synths, an inimitable tightness and basslines that can save your life indeed. And on "Escalator" Schwander comes up with extraordinary rolling and twisting rhythms and some sonic essentials that only the master of the sequencer can deliver. Distinguished.

Metallic Life Review features Susan Alcorn"s pedal steel, Owen Gardner"s glockenspiel, Thor Harris" drumming, Jason Willett"s (Half Japanese) guitar, and Jeff Carey"s aluminum cans, which were melted, molded into custom aluminum rods, and then bowed and struck. The most dramatic difference from any previous Matmos album is that side two was recorded "live in the studio", ala Throbbing Gristle"s Heathen Earth. For the first time on recording, Matmos capture the evolving, shifting, slithering dynamic that happens when they play live and let patterns emerge out of chaos and then collapse and then re-form. It was only a matter of time before Bristol's most exciting purveyor of fast-not-hard atmospheric jungle landed on Time Is Now. Artificial Red - otherwise known as George Young - specialises in the genre's softer side, with each release immersing its listener in transcendental worlds that seem at once mechanical and organic. Conjuring an ethereal feeling with grand atmospheric backdrops reminiscent of early Intense, Suspended Animation is a calming yet suspenseful track which slowly builds with expressive break patterns and minimal kickdrums as subtle basslines rumble below. Long echoing effects and melodies gently nudge the proceedings forward, ASC once again showcasing the diversity of his production toolset.

AA1 - Repetition
It's been a while since a pure two-step drum loop has had this much impact - make no mistake - the breaks of Repetition will bore their way into your brain like Pulp Fiction did in the mid 90's with a thumping kickdrum and stabbing snare tweaked to perfection. While the beats drive the track along, a collage of audio texture surrounds them with a signature female vocal sample closing out phrases filled with finely tuned synthwork.

AA2 - Pharaoh
Landing with immediate impact and building the mood with a subdued urgency, the Hot Pants breaks of Pharaoh surf the dunes of sound to an abundance of sheer atmosphere as ASC crafts a stunningly evocative track which is aptly titled, transporting the listener to mystical Egyptian sands, the synths and horns whispering like the echoes of of a bygone era demanding their timely reprise through the medium of Spatial.

B.Love is next up on Leeds legend Ralph Lawson's 20/20 label having come to his attention on Record Store Day 2024 with his Music Dance Experience EP and then later that day when playing as a resident at the Bizarre Trax party Lawson was en route to play. Here he showcases his electro sound across four cuts starting with 'Rhythm Freq', a celestial and disco-tinged sound. 'Movement Feeling' is a party starting cut with old school style and plenty of percussive lushness, then 'Soda Junior' brings louche, low-slung disco funk before 'Bisous' shuts down with more cosmic playfulness and vibrant synth colours.

Contemporary Belgian techno powerhouses Charlotte de Witte and Amelie Lens come together on a groundbreaking new “One Mind” EP.

Between them, this pair have very much refined the sound of techno over the last few years. Both hail from Belgium, and both came up through the clubbing scene with their own unique interpretations of techno and its many different nuances.

Charlotte de Witte, a global techno icon and founder of the KNTXT label, has released numerous EPs with a focus on acid and techno, blending in trance and ambient into compelling club cuts. With millions of fans, she also has a history making presence in underground clubs, at electronic music festival main stages like Tomorrowland and Ultra, and crossover festivals with her recently completed production tour "Overdrive". She’s also been crowned DJ Magazine’s World’s Number 1 Techno DJ five years in a row. Through KNTXT, she innovates with ventures like the archival Époque label, immersive pop-ups and spontaneous street parties. Poised for a groundbreaking 2025, she remains at the forefront of revolutionizing the electronic music landscape.

Amelie Lens, the leading figure in modern techno, is known for her exceptional productions and performances. Beyond music, she is a proud mother, record label owner, and activist. She founded Exhale and LENSKE, two globally recognized labels and event platforms celebrated for their inclusivity and unique on-site experiences. Exhale focuses on nurturing fresh talent, signing its youngest artist at just 16 years old. Amelie made history as the first woman with a residency in Ibiza and is now collaborating with Vogue Collective, becoming the first techno artist to do so. Her strong relationships with top designers like Chanel further highlight her creative vision beyond music. From festival appearances at the biggest festivals in the world to performances at iconic venues like The Sphere in Las Vegas, Amelie consistently pushes boundaries, shaping the future of electronic music.

To enhance the unified concept of the EP, both Amelie and Charlotte’s voices are subtly layered into the tracks, together, as one.

The brilliant 'One Mind' kicks off with rock solid, earth rattling kicks and intimate vocal whispers that draw you in close. Flashy, strobe lit synths soon electrify the groove and ensure hands will go skywards as acid lines bring extra drama. 'Where Do We Go' is another fantastic, turbocharged and acid-laced trance-techno gem with high-speed drums and synths racing along under icy spoken words that bring spine tingling sensuality.

Kos manages to establish a uniform color even though genres alternate in a way that is rarely heard on a mix CD: the stripped down hip hop of Madlib, brutalist Berghain techno, timeless songwriting, floating indie-pop and outlier numbers that oscillate between absurdity andmelancholy. Koze's disregard for the stylistic yoke presents him with an immense challenge. Hence, almost all the tracks are more or less edited, and one is fully rhymed (Session Victim: Hyuwee).Koze rambles on here himself: "I didn't want to kick around ophisticated knowledge, but rather try and weave together some good gems that would make sense to anyone, even people who aren't necessarily music nerds". But this is blabbing that you can count on, also because he approaches the term "mix" from a different angle and doesn't even try to make something fit that doesn't fit: "During the day, I don't need to hear anything that's mixed on the beat. I put the focus on making sure that it works harmoniously - the idea is more to create the impression of a radio show, like people such as John Peel did so uniquely. There is a giant cosmos of music and it runs through my filter".
