Jon Hopkins' neues Album RITUAL ist ein 41-minütiges Epos, das das musikalische Bindeglied zwischen seinen Vorgängeralben Immunity von 2013 und Singularity von 2018 und dem Music For Psychedelic Therapy von 2021 ist. Es besteht aus Subs die klingen, also of sie aus einer Höhle kämen, hypnotischem Schlagzeugspiel und transzendenten Melodien. Juyungo documents significant Esmeraldan artists and bands playing the Afro-Ecuadorian folklore of the province, as well as including some older field recordings. Based mostly on the marimba, whose origins lie partly in the African balafon, partly in Indigenous percussion instruments, the music is laced with call and response chants, ambient insect and bird noise, the filigree finger-styles of the Andean guitar tradition and the panpipes of the mountains. This is resonant insider roots music at its headiest — the mystic revelation of Esmeraldas, gully deep and lustral.’

The fifth in our series of LPs compiling classic music from Ecuador. Customary Honest Jons runnings: a beautiful gatefold sleeve; superior pressing, with vivid, intimate sound; full-size, sixteen-page booklet, in colour throughout, with detailed, fascinating, bi-lingual notes, and stunning photographs.

The music is transfixing, magical; not like anything else. From start to finish, this album is continuously, profoundly immersive; a kind of journeying, trippy meditation about slavery and cultural resistance, identity and mix, places and spaces, futures and pasts. It’s inscrutable to net-surfing, algorithms, Shuffle. But for a taste try the insurgent marimba roller Agua Largo, jet-propelled by Rosa Huila’s rapturous blend of African spiritualist and Christian chant. ‘Healing music,’ Zakia called it on Gilles Peterson’s BBC show recently. And the ravishing pasillo Kasilla Shungulla — ‘calm your heart’ in the Quichua language — a duet between the Peruvian master-guitarist Raúl García Zárate and viola da gamba by Juan Luis Restrepo from Medellin, recorded in a baroque church in Buzbanza, Colombia.

Die schwedische Produzentin und DJ La Fleur bricht drei Jahre musikalischer Stille mit ihrem bevorstehenden und lang erwarteten Debütalbum 'Väsen', das am 18. Oktober bei PIAS Électronique erscheint. Ihr unverkennbarer Stil ist technisch hervorragend ausgearbeitet und zu gleich hochemotional. Ihre neuen Songs, die ständig überarbeitet wurden, haben eine optimistische, positive Kraft und melodische Schönheit über komplexen Perkussionsschichten, die so mit Hooks geschmückt sind, dass man die Ohren nicht davon abwenden kann.

Während der Pandemiejahre zog La Fleur von Berlin zurück nach Schweden und arbeitete als leitende Angestellte in einem Stockholmer Krankenhaus. Eine krasse Veränderung nach einem Jahrzehnt mit ihrem eigenen Label Power Plant, zahlreichen Kollaborationen und gefeierten DJ Set und Auftritten. Die gezwungene Pause nutzte sie, weiter an ihrem Debütalbum zu feilen, das 2020 eigentlich schon fertig war, doch ihre geänderten Lebensumstände sollten noch einen Einfluss darauf haben: „I’ve always drawn inspiration not only from music, but changing elements in my life. It’s only now I feel I have the tracks ready for the world to hear.“

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, keyboard player Lonnie Liston Smith moved to New York in 1963 playing with the likes of Dakota Staton, Al Hibbler, Max Roach and Abbey Lincoln and Roland Kirk. He made his first recordings with Kirk and in 1968 entered into a mutually rewarding and instructive partnership with Pharoah Sanders and Leon Thomas. In 1971-2 he toured Europe with saxophonist Gato Barbieri appearing on his 1973 albums “Under Fire” and “Bolivia”. His growing reputation was also burnished by playing Fender Rhodes with Miles Davis electric band.

The second of these Barbieri LPs was released on Bob Thiele’s Flying Dutchman label. Thiele was quick to sign Smith and release Smith’s first album under his own name, “Astral Traveling”. Backed by his Cosmic Echoes band, Smith served up a beautiful spiritual and funky stew on tracks like ‘Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord’, ‘Rejuvenation’, ‘I Mani (Faith)’ and ‘In Search Of Truth’.

Smith went on to record “Expansions” one of the greatest funky jazz albums of all time in 1975 but this debut really paved the way towards that musical milestone.

Ace are delighted to reissue “Astral Traveling” in a gatefold sleeve that, like the original pressing, has liner notes by legendary jazz critic Nat Hentoff.

"Raw, deep and spiritual Gnawa music from Morocco to carry you through the night...

Recorded in a single late night session in a house in Casablanca, using a Tascam field recorder and 2 microphones, Dead of Night is the incredible new solo album from Maalem Houssam Guinia, the son of Maalem Mahmoud Guinia, and one of Morocco's most exciting young Gnawa masters.

The album was recorded live on the night of 3rd January 2022 in a relaxed session that lasted into the early hours of the next morning, and it captures Houssam at his most natural, singing and playing the Gnawa songs that have been with him since his birth, completely solo and free without percussion or backing vocals. Houssam described the album as containing the songs he knows best as these were the pieces his father would play and sing late into the night in their home when he was an infant.

What you'll hear on Dead of Night is raw, deep Gnawa music in its purest form played by a young Maalem who has been immersed in the culture his whole life and is a master of his craft. The whole performance has been beautifully and sympathetically captured by bassist and producer Karl-Erik Enkelman."

The hypnotic folk music of the Ainu a cappella group Marewrew has received the first of two remix treatments by Pingipung artists. Part 01 is by Andi Otto and M.RUX.

Andi Otto was the curator of the Marewrew album for Pingipung, released earlier in 2024. He selected gems from their archive for the "Ukouk" LP. His remix pays homage to the frenetic vocal dynamics of the round canon Sikata Kuykuy. Beginning with a stubborn piano beat, it's the bass clarinets that sit in sync with the vocals that make this dance track so charming. Bonus fact: they're played by Pingipung co-founder Heiko Gogolin - his first outing on the instrument for his own label.

M.RUX's take on Etukuma Kara is playful and groovy. Many will remember his legendary 2018 remix of Umeko Ando (Iuta Upopo), which marked Pingipung's first involvement with Ainu traditional music from northern Japan. His reworking of Marewrew's vocal music blends elements of various tracks with his own percussion, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

The two tracks will be released on 7" vinyl.

It's been a terrific year for KOMPAKT boss MICHAEL MAYER, who released his sophomore album 'MANTASY' (KOMCD100/KOM250) - the eagerly awaited follow-up to his seminal album debut 'TOUCH' (KOMCD36/KOM107). 2013 is shaping up to be equally busy, with an ongoing worldwide DJ tour, the label's 20th birthday and now the first EP of 'MANTASY' remixes. 'MANTASY REMIXE 1' is the first entry in a series of three, featuring a stellar cast sure to push any dance floor over the edge.


Up and coming producer and core family member of the Cómeme family - PHILIPP GORBACHEV is no stranger to Kompakt, and he delivers a slashing rework of adrenaline-fuelled synth fest 'VOIGT KAMPFF TEST'. This Berlin based Russian has had a tremendous career launch thanks to his excellent solo debut 'IN THE DELTA' (CÓMEME 012) and as a partner in crime releasing singles as a member of ISAAC JOHAN and THE DISTRICT UNION. Pulling out all the stops for this remix, 2013 promises to push him as a major club force to be reckoned with.

Another star in the making, Cologne's BARNT had an equally strong run in the last months with in-demand releases on Magazine, Cómeme and Mule Musiq: his track GEFFEN (from - The Power Of Now', CÓMEME 013) is easily one of the most recognized club singles of this year. He also tackles 'VOIGT KAMPFF TEST', dialing things back a bit, but only to reinforce the air of sheer magnitude that oozes from every single note. Delving deeper into his trademark Kraut Techno approach, Barnt replaces the original's thrills with creeping tension and reaches a new understanding of what the prime time should sound like.

THE MOLE is well-known for his heavily sampled, organic loopiness having a special place reserved in nearly every DJ's record crate, but this beat-driven. remix of Mayer's beatless masterpiece 'BAUMHAUS' sees the producer refining his approach, as he takes the original's evocative expertise to new heights of grooviness. It's not just a case of 'let's put a beat in there and we're done', but a fundamental rework eliciting hidden properties and finding a new perspective on an already perfect slice of music. A personal favorite of many Kompakt aficionados, 'Baumhaus' finally gets the club treatment it so clearly deserves.

Michael Reinboths allererste Veröffentlichung unter seinem Namen. "Let The Spirit" ist eine kinetische Coverversion eines House-Klassikers, der vor langer Zeit auf Ron Trents legendärem Prescription-Imprint veröffentlicht wurde. Es gibt keine Samples, alles ist selbst programmiert und zusammen mit Jan Krause (Beanfield) produziert. Die Flipside, etwas trippiger "RS6 Avant" in zwei Versionen. Die Cosmic Version lädt dazu ein, über die Landstraße zu schweben (oder in den späten Nachtstunden mit geschlossenen Augen über den Dancefloor). Und da Michael auch gerne schnell fährt, hat er sich entschlossen, die Club Version hinzuzufügen - eine viel energischere Version, die auf der Tanzfläche (und natürlich auf der Autobahn) zu Spitzenzeiten gut funktioniert. Weitere Michael Reinboth-Releases sind für 2024 in der Mache!

You can call them a »supergroup«, but Moderat understands that it's the »group« aspect that makes them interesting.

Gernot Bronsert, Sebastian Szary (aka Modeselektor) and Sascha Ring (aka Apparat) have been working together as a trio almost as long as their two separate projects have existed. We've seen their collaboration grow from »laptop boy-band,« (as Ring playfully puts it) in 2003—with computers synched using software Ring himself had written, because at the time, »there was just no live performance software around.«

Ring confesses that Moderat wasn't »really meant to be a recording act ,« with Bronsert agreeing that, »it was really just about fun.« This maybe explains the six-year break that followed Moderat's first EP before they finally returned in 2009 with their selftitled debut album. Intent on creating something that contrasted with their own projects, the group started the cycle which blossoms on their second album, aptly titled II, culminating now in the trilogy's completion, III. Whereas I was the combination of two separate entities, II brought the members closer together, and in III, the final chapter in the trilogy, Moderat sounds like one band.

Both Szary and Ring will tell you that Moderat moved progressively from making tracks towards a more traditional writing approach of making songs a process more fully realized on III. That's partly why the vocals have become more prominent. Mostly, you hear Ring singing (there are no guests this time), as he so often does as Apparat, but listen closely to »Ghostmother« to hear Bronsert and Szary backing him up. Stepping out of their comfort zone is the kind of thing that helped create their interplay between pop and electronics; doing it right won them the Resident Advisor Best Live Act honor as early as 2009, and they continue to gain popularity while remaining independent and underground.

Szary describes the idea behind Moderat as, »imagin(ing) yourself sitting in the cinema and watching a movie with an incredible soundtrack.« This is true with Moderat in general, but III in particular pairs an emotional pull with sensual imagery, creating dynamic sound and depth with lyrics such as »the calming scent of lavender fills the air,« or »burning bridges light my way.« You'd have
to ask them whether they're intending to manipulate the listener in the same way that John Williams or Hans Zimmer might with traditional orchestras.

One of the best parts of Moderat is their use of electronics to achieve orchestral diversity. They update the songwriting tradition with an intriguing palette, borne of careful attention and skill, informed by their »experiences with sounds of nearly 25 years of suband club culture.«
Let's not forget that these three were brought together by Berlin's now legendary rave scene. With this as their common foundation as individuals, III signifies Moderat's maturation in modern pop an achievement shared under their collective belt.

Bronsert explains that, »the new album isn't based on jams. We went into the studio and knew exactly what we needed to do.« This is reflected in the sophisticated themes explored in the music. Take »Ghostmother,« which ponders inner peace, acceptance, fear of the unknown and how facing that fear often reveals something not so scary. Or »Running,« which is about being part of a mass that constantly needs to move to function, but doesn't have the power to decide the direction of motion. Or how about the wisdom of »Reminder,« which recognizes the world for its flaws and our role we've each played in that, but choosing to act differently and light the way to something better.

Given that, it's a bit of an understatement when Bronsert says, »I'd say our music has definitely matured.« Successful in their own endeavors, now they've mastered the »group«. It doesn't mean the end of Moderat, but it does mean they'll have to find something else to excel in.

and the novelty goes on: mule musiq welcomes another fresh producer to its vast catalogue of music from all around. this time andro gogibedashvili aka saphileaum. he is coming from tbilisi, georgia and already released an impressive body of work, considering he just publishes music since 2016. countless eps and albums, digital, on tape, documenting his feverish creative urge on labels like not not fun records, good morning tapes, diffuse reality, or vodkast. they cover a comprehensive stylistic range from ambient and downtempo to tribal, house, and techno nuances. a deeper shade of soul, precisely fashioned, growing from different playgrounds of inspiration. he was born into a musical family. as a kid he studied georgian folk. in his school rock band, he sang, and the guitar was his love. then electronic music called the tune, and techno hit his heart. in the midst of it all the 26-year-old never lost contact with his spiritual home. “i find deep inspiration in georgian myths and legends, occultism and esoteric teachings, lost civilizations, earth, unity, truth, information, and the secrets of the universe. these things, to name a few, inspire me daily and help me create the music I make.” saphileaum reveals. “exploring together”, his debut album for mule, navigates all these elements through a merry-go-round of gentle driven rhythm zones. fourth-world spheres, balearic tropes, field recording zones, tropical downbeat, tribal percussions, trancing sounds, balafon hums, mallet airs, hooky house – it’s all there, circling the eavesdropper into a dreamland of melodic undercurrents. “my loops come from tribal and cosmic inspirations. tribal, as below, and cosmic as above. the combination of these two, is very interesting to me”, he clarifies, while joking “but, to put it super simply, loops are super handy for djing”. which brings us to the final promotion of “exploring together” - it’s playability. its vast. multifunctional. spiritual. made for gatherings, were all dance time away. lost in music actions, only touched by the hand of rhythm and sound. his ten tracks are created for such flashes, wide spreading a musical narration of illuminating durability. “cosmic, relaxing, fun, tribal, and mystic.”, as saphileaum declares.

Art of Tones is well renowned for his eclectic blend of deep house, disco, and jazz funk and it is all that which he blends together on a remix of SEK's 'Show Me The Power' to get this latest 12" from No Fuss off to a fine start. Deepmore then makes waves with the irresistible slink and jazzy melodies of 'Love You' while label regular Saison offers up 'Deliver You', which brings a blues-inspired vocal element and transforms it into a raw and authentic deep house gem. Austin Ato handles remix duties for this one and notches up the tempo to get things pumping on rich bass and lithe pads.

The name mentions it all… strictly early!

Take cover! It's impossible to get rid of the now legendary Stupeflip Crou (="crew"). Like a two-taste chewing-gum that's been stuck under your trainers since 1994, King Ju is back in force with Sons2ouf!!, an album meticulously selected from hundreds of unreleased tracks and alternative versions accumulated over the years. Always on the fringes of a bloated Game, Ju takes us on a tour of his strange cabinet of curiosities. Far from being a simple collection of sounds, the album is a real creation in its own right in the Stup discography. 'Mock-ups are often better than the final sound, like a sketch that's always more alive than a finished painting,' he explains. Here we find that first draft, bits of stuff not yet digested by the industry. Some of the nuggets are antediluvian, but they sound extremely lively, as if they had been written the day before. In Stupeflip's parallel world, time doesn't exist. We find the themes dear to Crou: childhood, rage, non- violence, the passage of time, a passion for music and nostalgia. As usual, the beat is cut with a meticulous flow, there's no time to take a breath, the Stup just does what it wants, churning out one bullet after another in a fusion of genres and styles that's as distinctive as ever. Specially dedicated to aficionados, the album celebrates 30 years of Le Crou! The Holy Grail for every Stup fan!

The Tubs' second album, Cotton Crown, sees the Celtic Jangle boyband venture into darker, more personal territor y while continuing to hone their highly addictive brand of songcraft. It 's a true level up album which sees the band expand their sonic palette to take in a kaleidoscopic range of influences: everything from soulful pub rock (Chain Reaction) to Husker Du aggression (One More Day) to melancholy sophisto-pop (Narcissist) gets a look in. As Pitchfork noted, The Tubs see jangle as a `vast world of moods and muses' and Cotton Crown sees them continuing to explore this world and creating a distinctly Tub-ular sound in the process. This is in no small part down to Owen `O' Williams' vocal performance- often compared to a young Richard Thomson- and his frank, bleakly funny lyric writing. Cotton Crown sees him delve further into his favourite themes of love-psychosis, unsympathetic mentally ill behaviour, and the humiliations of being a musician in London. This time around, however, there's a palpable sense of risk in his self assessments/confessions. No more so in the track's closing track Strange- an accounting of the clumsy, intrusive, well-meaning social interactions that took place in the period following the suicide of his mother (the folk singer Charlotte Greig.) As Williams says: "I'd tried a few times to write a song about it. The result had always seemed either mawkish, simplifying or like I was hawking my trauma. But then this one came out, and it felt right because it looked at something smaller: the weird, unsatisfying, strangely funny ways everyone, including myself, acted after the dust settled." The album artwork features an image of Williams as an infant being breastfed by Greig in a graveyard- a promotional shot taken around the release of her debut album (the re-issue of which was featured in The Guardian in 2023.) The essential trick Cotton Crown plays is to offset Williams' lyrical bleakness with joyous, hook-laden blasts of pop perfection. This is largely down to the guitar work of George Nicholls, who, across the album, effortlessly slips between the virtuoso jangle of Marr, the driving folk-rock of Pentangle and the chorus-heavy hi-fi grooves of contemporary bands like Tops or The 1975. The Tubs' second album, Cotton Crown, sees the Celtic Jangle boyband venture into darker, more personal territor y while continuing to hone their highly addictive brand of songcraft. It 's a true level up album which sees the band expand their sonic palette to take in a kaleidoscopic range of influences: everything from soulful pub rock (Chain Reaction) to Husker Du aggression (One More Day) to melancholy sophisto-pop (Narcissist) gets a look in. As Pitchfork noted, The Tubs see jangle as a `vast world of moods and muses' and Cotton Crown sees them continuing to explore this world and creating a distinctly Tub-ular sound in the process. This is in no small part down to Owen `O' Williams' vocal performance- often compared to a young Richard Thomson- and his frank, bleakly funny lyric writing. Cotton Crown sees him delve further into his favourite themes of love-psychosis, unsympathetic mentally ill behaviour, and the humiliations of being a musician in London. This time around, however, there's a palpable sense of risk in his self assessments/confessions. No more so in the track's closing track Strange- an accounting of the clumsy, intrusive, well-meaning social interactions that took place in the period following the suicide of his mother (the folk singer Charlotte Greig.) As Williams says: "I'd tried a few times to write a song about it. The result had always seemed either mawkish, simplifying or like I was hawking my trauma. But then this one came out, and it felt right because it looked at something smaller: the weird, unsatisfying, strangely funny ways everyone, including myself, acted after the dust settled." The album artwork features an image of Williams as an infant being breastfed by Greig in a graveyard- a promotional shot taken around the release of her debut album (the re-issue of which was featured in The Guardian in 2023.) The essential trick Cotton Crown plays is to offset Williams' lyrical bleakness with joyous, hook-laden blasts of pop perfection. This is largely down to the guitar work of George Nicholls, who, across the album, effortlessly slips between the virtuoso jangle of Marr, the driving folk-rock of Pentangle and the chorus-heavy hi-fi grooves of contemporary bands like Tops or The 1975. "Subluminal" was conceived and recorded during the unique and uncertain period of March-April 2020, when the world was at a standstill. Created using a few analog devices, the album captures the raw and evolving nature of working with feral analog instruments. Electric currents traverse intricate obstacle courses, creating a distinctive and eclectic sonic landscape.

Despite being pressed on high-quality 180g vinyl, the record sat unreleased for four years. The decision to withhold its release was driven by contemplation and uncertainty. However, the time has come for "Subluminal" to see the light of day.

The term "Subluminal" means having a speed slower than the speed of light or existing under light. This concept reflects the album's exploration of how matter bends light, gives space its time, and creates a world through the interplay of sound and light.

"Subluminal" marks my first strictly electronic music project after years of working exclusively with field recordings. mule musiq welcomes british producer jimmy wallace, presenting his debut album “red, yellow, black” - a nine track strong record that partly leaves the dancefloor behind.

since childhood, music has been a strong influence on the 33-year-old artist. his mother, a music teacher, exposed him to classical sounds from an early age.

but it was hearing the electronic tones of the french touch movement, which really ignited his mu-sical journey. a year later he started to dj, acting out his love for four-to-the-floor grooves in local clubs. today you'll find him on the bill with artists like ruf dug, mr scruff, or bradley zero, heating up the dance floors.

Im Jahr 2016 bot sich Yannis die Chance seines Lebens: eine zweitägige Session mit dem großen Schlagzeuger Tony Allen, den er für seine einflussreiche, genreübergreifende Arbeit mit Künstlern wie Fela Kuti, Sébastien Tellier und Jeff Mills sehr bewundert.

Als Yannis sich in ein verrauchtes 70er-Jahre-Studio in Paris begab, erwartete er, dass sie eine nostalgische Afrobeat-Platte aufnehmen würden. Doch es kam etwas ganz anderes dabei heraus. Die beiden entwickelten schnell eine intuitive Telepathie, die Musik entstand aus Jams und Loops, und die verschiedenen Berührungspunkte - Rock, Funk, Jazz, Dub und mehr - wurden durch die einzigartige Atmosphäre des Aufeinandertreffens zweier Kulturen und kreativer Köpfe ergänzt, deren Ausdruck durch das Musizieren im und für den Moment selbst befreit wurde.

Zusammen mit Tonys regelmäßigen Mitstreitern Vincent Taeger (Schlagzeug), Vincent Turrell (Tasten, Marimba) und Ludovic Bruni (Bass, Gitarre) entstand bei diesem ersten Treffen eine Handvoll fast fertiger Songs, die in einigen nachfolgenden Sessions weiter entwickelt wurden. Aufgrund von Terminproblemen und Corona-Einschränkungen wurden die Aufnahmen jedoch nie abgeschlossen, bevor Tony im April 2020 im Alter von 79 Jahren verstarb.

Yannis fühlte sich zutiefst verpflichtet, das Projekt zu vollenden, nicht nur als bittersüße Art, seinen alten Freund zu ehren und zu feiern, sondern auch, weil Tony so begierig darauf gewesen war, diese Songs mit der Welt zu teilen. Das Ergebnis ist die kommende Fünf-Track-EP 'Lagos Paris London' unter dem Dach von Yannis & The Yaw - ein Projekt, zu dem er in Zukunft zurückkehren möchte, um weitere Kollaborationen mit inspirierenden Musikern aus der ganzen Welt einzugehen.

Tomas Bodén is a revered figure of the aural murk, known primarily for his work as Civilistjävel. It’s an alias that has spawned a catalogue of self-released peculiarities, featuring music that scorns traditional form, instead opting for unfussed symphonies of ice-hued minimalism; soft murmurs that emanate from his studio in the High Coast of Sweden.

On »Brödföda«, his latest album for Fergus Jones’s FELT imprint, subtle new developments in mood prevail. Across its 75 minutes, Civilistjävel! unveils a breadth of emotions that on previous releases seemed distant. He also invites collaborators on record for the first time: Beirut-based singer Mayssa Jallad mournfully croons on »IV«, »VIII« hosts Coldlight’s ELDON & Withdrawn for an abstracted session of dub-hop murk, Laila Sakini offers a hallucinogenic monologue amidst melodica, sticks & bells playing on »IX« and Thommy Wahlström floats scant acid dub stylings on »VI«. These additions and developments bring a forlorn intimacy to the music, and suggest an ambition that few artists of his ilk strive for.

FELT’s (un)reliable cast of audio ghouls routinely summon the odd, with Civilistjävel! often its primary culprit; »Brödföda« gently modifies this path to pursue some of his and the label’s most quaintly beautiful music yet.

Music From Memory is thrilled to introduce Dead Sound, the collaborative project of Marco Sterk (aka Young Marco) and Berlin-based pop-auteur John Moods. Both artists are no strangers to the label; Sterk forms one third of the trio Gaussian Curve, while Moods released the 2022 album ‘Hidden Gem’ with The Zenmenn.

Their collaboration was both planned and spontaneous; Sterk initially reached out in 2022 expressing his desire to work with Moods. The pair finally got together in 2024 to produce ‘Into The Void’, an album that burst into life over the course of a few creatively charged days in each other’s company.

Moods’ dream-like, emotionally charged music wears its heart on its sleeve; its very human vulnerability makes it a perfect match for Sterk’s strong sense of melody and textural sonic visions.

‘Into The Void’ carries these psychedelic traits in its DNA, but they exist layered deep amongst the shadows. Painting on a wide canvas that effortlessly skips between genres, the pair weave anything that inspires them into a truly unique tapestry; a bold attempt to touch at the beyond.

Exploring the space between perception (level of the mind) and the nature of the universe (actual level of reality) seems traditionally like an impossible task. But there’s gotta be a time and a space for the profound and this album invites the listener to go deep, letting go of concepts such as love and opening oneself up to one’s own authentic journey. This transformative force of healing is a central theme of ‘Into The Void’, a path that is lined with light and darkness in equal measure. But, as Moods says, “do not skip the darkness, let that door open and swallow you. And maybe you’ll find, it's not as dark as you perceived at first."

An artist who will need little introduction amongst our seasoned followers, Bogota producer Felipe Gordon is back with his seventh label release. Natural Born Climber EP sees Gordon continue in the same jazz-inflected vein as his previous EP, boasting his talent as a multi-instrumentalist and dexterity in combining textures to make an infectious whole.

The EP starts as it means to go on. "The Love" cruises along an irresistible groove, oozing sex appeal and at times tickling the ears with a classy jazz piano. "Da Ghent Life" is about funk. A bass guitar meanders beneath skippy percussion before giving way to a soul-stroking saxophone breakdown before "More Than Grateful" follows suit, maintaining the uplifting tone. Finally, the title track sees the EP at its most ravey. It's impossible not to move to "Natural Born Climbers" 's piano-stab melody and Detroit-inspired vocal chops.

Hassan Abou Alam is next to step up to the unconventional Nerve Collect label with six tracks of futuristic club-ready chaos. The finely crafted EP arrives in August and comes on 12" vinyl and via all digital platforms.

Hassan Abou Alam has established himself as one of Egypt's most innovative underground musicians over the last 10+ years. His music is a meeting of disparate worlds - organic and synthetic designs, digital and analogue tools, the traditional and the futuristic, and it has come on the likes of YUKU, Rhythm Section, Banoffee Pies and Casa Voyager. Opener '3asabi' is a stylish sonic assault with thumping rhythms and trippy oscillations that will get any dance floor bouncing. It's fun yet functional, serious yet seductive and 'Basha' Ft. ZIAD ZAZA, Ismail Nosrat & Aly B is another kinetic fusion of hand claps and complex drum funk, Egyptian vocal gymnastics and punchy bass. 'Ghalat' has lurching drums and plunging bass driving on beneath mangled synths, odd vocalisations and percussive splatters drawn from a unique sound palette. The drilling low ends of 'Khalsana' Ft ZIAD ZAZA are offset by fluttering percussive details up top while spare but booming kicks shake every bone in your body and the bassline devastates.

There is no let up on 'Mesh Mafhoom' which is a ritualistic workout with moments of melancholic synth soul shining through the jumble of tin-pot percussion and crashing hits. Closer 'Zein' is more body-popping brilliance that channels ancient spirits into warped synths and rhythms so complex they melt the mind.
Hassan Abou Alam's blurring of the lines between the real and the imagined is second to none on this EP. It's a sub-heavy mix of the human voice, machine-made sounds and inventive rhythms that make for something new, weird and wonderful.

For its 10th release founder of Kvalia Records, Linny Hex, invites techno pioneer Jeroen Search. The 4 track ep 'Conductor' represents the perfect blend between Search's genre defining, inimitable sound and Hex's uncompromising curation of deep, hypnotic soundscapes. Still Music Chicago is thrilled to announce the reissue of Jiraffe's ''Out'A The Box,'' a legendary dance record from New York City. Originally released in 1988 on Goldqwest Records, this track emerged from the collaboration between Richie Weeks and Al Smith. This limited 12'' release includes a full sleeve with a never-before-seen picture of Richie Weeks with Vaughan Mason at Vaughan home studio and a story of ''Out'A The Box''. Richie Weeks, known for his work with The Jammers and Weeks & Co, founded Goldqwest Records after Salsoul Records closed. Inspired by his friend Vaughan Mason, Richie ventured into house music production, recording demos that caught the attention of Reynald ''Crazy Frenchman'' Deschamps of M.T.I Exports. A generous supporter funded Goldqwest's third release, leading to Richie and Al Smith creating ''Out'A The Box'' at Al's home studio in Philadelphia. The track blended post-disco, dance, latin, and proto-house elements, achieving cult status among DJs worldwide.

In 1998 Zev Love X of the seminal rap group KMD re-emerged as a masked super villain known as MF DOOM. The following Year he release the ground breaking independent classic Operation: Doomsday. Doom only added to the mystery by creating multiple aliases (King Geedorah, Viktor Vaughn, etc.) and taking a no holds barred approach to his musical career. With collaborative side projects with Madlib (Madvillain) and most recently DANGERDOOM with Danger Mouse, MM..FOOD marks the super villain's long awaited follow up to Operation: Doomsday.

Emerging from over a year of creative hibernation following their debut album, Stavroz's upcoming EP "Kick Up the Dust" jolts them back into action. The EP flows gently, yet the overall mood of the journey isn’t always easy to pinpoint. There’s a certain vagueness to Stavroz’ sound which allows for bizarre experiments to seep through without interrupting the course. “We like to keep it lightly twisted, like a wink with a frown,” says the band.



In the title track however, Stavroz boldly steers towards the heart of the dance floor: efficient, remorseless, powerful, intense and most of all... elegant. Guiding you harmoniously through the club is a delightful duet of trumpet and saxophone, timed perfectly to heal you where it hurts most.



"Her Eyes Were Red" does what it says on the cover. There's melancholy - without sadness. Power - without force. Love - without lust. Stavroz's music possesses a distinct power that feels both natural and organic, never resorting to brute force or aggression. In their own way, the Belgian quartet offers an astonishing journey of saxophone & duduk, supported by broken beats and chopped vocals.



In Dae-El, a track featuring the Brussels-based producer and sound designer Poltrock, ethereal-sounding synths and duduk are combined with ghostly high-pitch distortions. Despite a backbone of muffled beats, the tune has vaporous qualities, reverberations that wobble and tinkle into space – it’s an easy listening experience but in a trippy, spaced-out way. “We’re trying to go for the sweet spot between the couch and the club”.



Adding further depth to their EP, Stavroz collaborates with Brazilian singer and composer Castello Branco in "Valente." Here, intimate Sade-like vocals harmonize with rubbery scratches, acoustic guitar, and horn segments, crafting a lush lounge piece that seamlessly balances both relaxation and empowerment, transparency and provocation. It's a testament to Stavroz's versatility and their knack for creating music that defies easy definition, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating the next twist and turn in their captivating musical journey.

Dependency Jazz Conjunction is a record label created by The Torus Trio. The label features music created with a variety of collaborators trained in schools and conservatories around the world. The music is influenced by jazz, techno, house, funk, and American soul. DJC is an open source project, and It will be always open to include new members, such as keyboardists, drummers, and vocalists, through future releases.

In May, fans were treated to the first new music from Trentemøller since 2022. A new single, "A Different Light," showcased a stunning blend of prismatic space rock and folk. For anyone wondering if it foreshadowed the release of a full-length, Dreamweaver will drop in September, on Friday the 13th.
Featuring 10 tracks that traverse Trentemøller's many musical strengths, Dreamweaver also represents an obvious artistic leap, treading new ground while retaining the overall plot. Tracks featuring vocals come courtesy of of Iceland's Disa, who has been in Trentemøller's fold since the Memoria tour.
Dreamweaver's nylon string-led opening track, and first single from the album, "A Different Light," contains many of Trentemøller's trademarks: exploring dichotomies, musical shadowplay, Nordic frigidity, and warm waves. It opens the door for the steady, hypnotic "Nightfall," with its tetherless vocal, wistful guitars, and early morning desert chill. The third track in the opening trifecta, "Dreamweavers" finds its footing with a percussive soft trot, which starts after what feels like a shortwave radio scan in search of the right chords, eventually dialing in a weightless voice. Ostensibly keeping a ruminative pace with the previous two tracks, the song and, by extension, album soon opens up as the rest of the elements drop into place with a grand, luxurious burst.
Dreamweaver is about to enter its next phase. With the hatch blown off of the portal, the noisy "I Give My Tears," driven by its glissed and fuzzy bass line, pours into the void. It's followed by its sibling, the most chaotic track on Dreamweaver, "Behind My Eyes." Arriving as a piece of noise rock pandemonium, "Behind My Eyes," can't be contained in its plush vault. A whip-crack snare and convulsing guitars smash against each other in the song's verse chamber. The tension builds, as the particles collide, pushing past the point of critical mass, kicking off the chain reaction which is the chorus. At times it harkens back to the proto-gaze tracks that gave birth to dream pop, at others it newly defines what that is. There's no time to contemplate it, though, as the song disintegrates in a microphonic feedback instant.
A respite follows with the somnambulistic pair of "Hollow" and "Empty Beaches." Then, a moment of intensity returns as the soaring textures and tribal drum bursts of "In A Storm" take control, before being taken out with the ambient slo-core of "Winter's Ghost" and "Closure." This diptych wraps up an album which certainly feels on-script for Trentemøller, but is also much more psychedelic than previous offerings.
Dreamweaver will be released on Trentemøller's own In My Room label. It is an exceedingly immersive experience, bound to release any dormant hallucinations you may be harboring.

Contexture is another classic example of a true friends & family gathering. The Nijmegen based imprint, running for over 12 years was born out of a tight group of friends with the same passion. 12 years later, their strongest releases are still based on this exact same principle, collect and release music from the inner circle. Julien Fuentes, Dorcas label head, starts things easy with his Klaridub ambient mix. It's quickly followed by familiar ESHU faces Jocelyn and Yasin Engwer, classic dub techno beats from the ESHU vaults. There's also room for new faces, the recently launched collaborative project between Vand and Shoal as Voal dropping their 'Eight Ball' as their ESHU label debut. Flawless minimalistic grooves that make a perfect fit for their long awaited contribution. Label head Ivano Tetelepta teams up with Pirat Records own Christine Benz. After sharing the DJ booth together multiple times they also joined forces in the studio recently and crafted this squeeky techno drifter. There's also an additional 10", exclusive to the ESHU Bandcamp, includes two beats from Klaridub, bringing some excellent smoke ready, head steady dub-techno cuts.

Zenwerk is an eclectic tech trancethusiast from Belarus, though based in Warsaw, Poland, where he has already established himself as a leading artist and party promoter.

Ne Quid Nimis is Latin for "nothing in excess" – the track is a perfectly balanced subaquatic blend of peaceful yet progressive trance and muffled bloopy sonics. Inspired by the mountains hikes, this tribal trip into the rainforest creates a drifting atmosphere of a celestial and dynamic ride meant to pass a healing power of nature alongside joyful turbulence and inspiration. Ethereal vibrations & deep sound textures create a dreamy universe of wonder and bright hopes for the future.

A2 ‘Dew Kissed Silk’ is a 4x4 walk in trance delirium across predator footprints which becomes satisfactory – silk is being kissed by dew, though not soaked with. This contemporary vanguard trance/breakbeat hybrid creates a perfect mental equilibrium.

Rising Bristol star JOELY brings 2 hot B side tracks which show how hot a talent he is at such a young age. Hive Mind creates a playful grit which will get a dance floor moving in the early hours of a set, providing a steady rhythm which never wavers. Jungle Walk takes us down a darker, ethereal path which will make any soundsystem wobble with the thick wonky textures that JOELY expertly weaves in. Mind this gap.

With a Yamaha organ and a dream, South African artist Pops Mohamed started his musical journey in the mid-1970s as the bandleader and composer of Black Disco, creating a hip melange of chill-out jazz with futuristic drum machine sounds and spiritual overtones. His cosmic organ transmissions were accompanied by two of the most sought-after session players on the South African scene, the sax and flute wizard Basil Coetzee, who had risen to fame in 1974 as one of the soloists on the hit "Mannenberg," and Sipho Gumede, the young bass prodigy who was already rubbing shoulders with the old guard at the outset of his career. Backed at first with polyphonic beats from Mohamed's electric organ and later taking on a drummer, Black Disco created a signature sound and a trilogy of innovative albums in a burst of studio creativity between 1975 and 1976.

This is the first full reissue of their 3rd album, from the original masters. Limited Edition

Idealist, Patrick Zigon, El Choop and Van Bonn took their hands on Insect O.’s full length album ‘Atacama’. Zurich based Idealist turns the epic ‘New Dawn’ track into a raw techno mover with acidic chords and an air cutting hihat. For his remix of ‘Resonance’ Biotop label head Patrick Zigon spices up the melodies with some disharmonic sounds and embeds it on top of a shuffling groove foundation. El Choop got on remix duties for ‘Atacama’ and hit the ground running. Using multiband saturation and a granular software to create a pad, he’s turned it into an entirely new exploding techno track. Van Bonn rounds up the remix edition. Using some trippy fx, he lays the chords and field recordings on top of a very deep dub beat in his mystic remix for ‘Forest Of The Monkeys’.

In the wake of a string of record releases, Token's curator returns to his label with 'Angels Landing' to highlight his mission statement. Four cuts of delirious and dissonant techno from the Belgian artist have proven to be a stylistic favorite in both his productions and his DJ sets. With a wink to older production techniques, Kr!z keeps this contribution to Token fresh and efficient while reaffirming the historic label's sonic identity.



While using a steady bassline for his tracks, Kr!z ups the ante with a Detroit-style pad that floats around the rest of the record for the 'Angels Landing' title track. By opening and closing hihats, rolling the claps all along, and pitching his rides, he creates tension by fully utilizing his drum machine.The synth stabs and overall pace make for a modern twist, however; it's applicable music for layered sets that the Token boss has been known for performing over the years. This dance-ready, nostalgic-nudging kind of techno is spread throughout the entirety of the EP, but is most transparent on the B1 'Oblivion'. Key stab sequences have been iconic in the scene for some time, but it's Kr!z's persistence and minimalism that renders this track so exciting. Opening and shutting filters, sliding portamento, and pushing the release, the seasoned artist manifests tension through minimal elements and relies on his transitions to keep up the pace. Usually juggling between rounder and sharper sound design, 'Medusa' boasts both; Kr!z's electric lead bites a low- swaying synth line. Destined for peak use, complete with white noise transitions and open rides, Kr!z combines the sound of a club at its climax with his almost psychotic low-mid arpeggio to createone of his most hypnotic tracks to date. 'Ninth Circle', on the other hand, dials it back as the last track. More keys, yet obscure in intention and effect, the closer creates a question mark at the end of the EP with big transitions and a groovy use of toms. Cementing himself as a game player in production as much as in DJing, Kr!z's 'Angels Landing' continues his search in eerie sounds and expressive drums to add to his label's catalog of savant club music.

Pearson Sound returns to his Hessle Audio label with Which Way Is Up, a 4 track EP showcasing a range of textures and tempos with soundsystem pressure as the anchor. The 808-laced 'Hornet' kicks things off with a sound palette inspired as much by '80s Miami as '10s London. 'Twister' dials up the energy with a jagged lead and scattered breakbeats pulling in opposing directions, while the steppers pulse of 'Slingshot' evokes formative experiences at Subdub in Leeds. The EP is brought to a close with the blissed out title track 'Which Way Is Up', whose arpeggios dance around each other until they fizzle to breaking point. US House Music legend Teddy Douglas of Basement Boys and Jasper St. Co. fame gets set to unleash his first solo artist album, ‘I’m Here’, on the iconic label, Nervous Records. Teddy has gone all out to deliver one of his most creative and musically diverse albums to date. ‘I’m Here’ is a colourful pallet of meaningful songs and grooves that reach far beyond Teddy’s signature soulful Baltimore House sound, with added infusions of Funk, Rock and Jazz, yet still loaded with plenty of Teddy’s trademark House and Disco sounds that we all know and love.

Baltimore’s Teddy Douglas has produced everyone from Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Crystal Waters, Erykah Badu, Martha Wash and Ultra Nate’ and was an important figure in the development of the Baltimore “House” Sound. Teddy has held down a long and successful DJ career since 1983 staring out in Baltimore and spreading his wings globally gracing the decks at clubs such as Yellow in Japan to London’s Ministry of Sound and beyond. In 1985 he met Jay Steinhour and Thommy Davis, who later formed The Basement Boys production company. The Basement Boys have produced countless dance classics like Crystal Waters’ 1991 Gold single, ‘Gypsy Woman’. In the mid 90’s Teddy Douglas and Jay Steinhour opened Basement Boys Records and released club anthems from Teddy Douglas, Jasper St. Co., Ann Nesby, Those Guys, DJ Spen, Byron Stingly, Karizma, Kenny Bobien, Taja Seville and more

Australian minimalist-jazz trio The Necks' 20th studio album, Bleed, explores a sublime language of stillness. With a single, 42-minute composition, The Necks masterfully express the unspeakable beauty of decay and space in yet another totally distinct entry in a vast and stunning body of work.

Etui welcomes Tim Kossmann. With Lockdown Loops the Westfalia dub techno mastermind presents a very personal EP with 3 deep, loop based tunes recorded in extreme isolation during lockdown. The situation created a feeling of lonesome remoteness and uncertainty, transcended by putting in more man hours in the studio.

The EP starts with Loop A, a dreamy dub techno riddim that has nice distant echoes and mint chords. The 2nd track Loop B has a more noisy, warped chord progression topped with atmospheric piano riffs.

Loop C on the b-side consists probably of the most heavenly sounding melancholic chord loop he has recorded so far. Expect a tune composed of atmospheric bluster combined with a banging deep mono bass and different layers of noise. It is simply an epic lofi sound anthem.

Tim Kossmann is a Germany based producer who focuses mainly on dub techno and ambient. Since 2016 he has been releasing on a constant basis on labels like Telrae, Greyscale and Superordinate Dub Waves among many others.

He loves to explore the deep side of techno, with the aim of creating deep, lush chords and soundscapes filled with echo and spaced out delays, where deeply banging bass and moving whitenoise are combined with sophisticated harmonics in order to push the boundaries of the genre.

These are the very sentiments that lay as cornerstones in Salvator Dragatto's debut LP for Colemine Records. The allure and drama of black & white photography have always played a vital role in how Salvator (aka Joseph Reina) not only views the world but how he hears music. Parallels in film processing to his own recording methods started becoming more and more apparent as the record was being formed; Limitations in exposures rivaling limitations in tracks. Film grain and dust sediments rivaling tape hiss and dirty EQ pots. What most would consider to be imperfections, Dragatto leaned into and found inspiration. Opaque Natural Vinyl. This record is an homage to the likes of Andre' Kerte'sz, Robert Frank, Jean-Luc Godard and Rene' Groebli, who's works have impacted Dragatto's world so greatly both visually and sonically. Thoughts of You is an unabashed reflection of the noir. From the powerful thematic horn lines to the gentlest string passages, this record is a collection of themes and vignettes that explore the emotions set upon by black and white imagery.

Abschließender Teil 3 der NICHTS-Deluxe Reissue-Serie: Endlich gibt es das fast vergessene dritte Nichts-Album "Aus Dem Jenseits" von 1983 neu aufgelegt! Aufgrund von Umständen damals untergegangen und unerfolgreich, aber deshalb auch rar und zum Kult geworden. Enorm unterschätzt sowieso! NICHTS stellten sich 1983 neu auf und hauten mit Seite A der LP eine ungebrochene Reihe von sechs deutschsprachigen New Wave-Powerpop-Super-Hits raus, garniert mit den schon immer guten Postpunk-Texten von Sängerin Andrea Mothes. Deren Echos finden sich auch heute noch im aktuellen Gitarrenpop, New Wave oder der Neuen Neue Deutsche Welle. Mindestens Single "Venus Schenkt Dir Schöne Stunden (Horrorskop)" hätte ein NDW-Klassiker der besseren Sorte sein sollen. Seite 2 ist kaum schwächer. Nachdem die Band im Herbst 1982 nach zwei erfolgreichen Alben sowie den NDW-Hits "Radio" und "Tango 2000" ihre Tour beendet hatten, stiegen Gründungsmitglied und Gitarrist Meikel Clauss sowie Bassist Scarbeck aus. Doch Sängerin/Texterin Andrea Mothes und Schlagzeuger Tobias Brink waren noch nicht fertig mit NICHTS und spielten in neuer Besetzung das dritte Album "Aus Dem Jenseits" ein. Liveauftritt bei Mal Sondocks Pop Explosion, geplante Single-Auskoppelung und gebuchte Tour schienen den Erfolg fortführen zu können, doch es kam anders: Aufgrund einer Verletzung Brinks musste die Tour abgesagt werden, die Single wurde nicht weiter promotet, die Band löste sich alsbald auf und das Album wurde in der Folge zum Kultobjekt der Fans. Das von den ehemaligen Bandmitgliedern begeistert aufgenommene und abgenickte Remastering des Albums wurde in der Düsseldorfer Skyline-Tonfabrik von Kai Blankenberg gefertigt, dessen Dienste sonst u.a. von International Music, Boy, Madsen oder regelmäßig Udo Lindenberg in Anspruch genommen werden. Neben Bonustrack (Horrorskop 2024 Single Edit) gibt es auch wieder ein 16seitiges Booklet im CD-Format mit Fotos der Zeit und den Texten dabei! Jetzt erscheint "Greyscale": ein frappierend aktuelles, zwingendes Album. Untätig war die Gruppe seit den späten 80ern ohnehin nicht: Regelmäßig erschienen Alben, zuletzt 2006 das Album "Relocated" und 2014 eine Single-Compilation - auf Facebook zählt die Gruppe über 50.000 Fans. With no frills or fluff, every original track on their third album from 2001 appears here in crunching glory, not sounding an inch rougher or time-weathered. Aptly, 'Discovery' was described by the duo as a reflection of their childhood memories, when they listened to music with a more innocent ear; 20 years on, Discovery can certainly be said to have lived up to that original inspiration.

Erste Vinylreissue eines Klassikers aus der On-U Sound-Frühphase: Das 1982er Solodebütalbum der jamaikanischen Saxofonlegende "Deadly" Headley Bennett, der seit den 1960ern Stars wie Bob Marley und Alton Ellis begleitete, mit Produzenten wie Coxsone Dodd und Bunny Lee arbeitete und eine Schlüsselrolle in Bands wie Sound Dimension, Aggrovators, Revolutionaries und Soul Syndicate spielte. Aufgenommen mit Musikern von Creation Rebel und Roots Radics, Adrian Sherwood am Mischpult und Bim Sherman on vocals auf 3 Tracks. Die CD erschien erstmals 1999 und enthält hier zwei unveröffentlichte Bonustracks. Das Vinyl wurde komplett neu geschnitten. Beide Formate kommen mit ausführlichen Linernotes und rarem Fotomaterial.
