Following his acclaimed Scars of Intransigence album of 2014, Emile Facey (Plant43) is back on terra Shipwrec. On skeletal rhythm supports strings and bass intertwine, link and disappear. Facey performs audio alchemy, transforming cold chords into organic warmth, transfiguring electrical impulses into palpable emotion. Frigid currents flow through bright bars, ephemeral percussion snap at heels of soaring keys as Plant 43 draws you deeper and deeper into the bare and beautiful brilliance of Grid Connection.

The Acid Series celebrates over 10 years of No Way Back, with music that directly references that experience. This is the third volume in the series, to be followed by BMG & Derek Plaslaiko, and there will be four more after this pair, with records by Tin Man & Ectomorph, Dona, Romans, and Pervocet (Patrick Russell & Jasen Loveland) yet to come. They all arrive in a unique sleeve especially created for this series, inspired by the decorations of NWB. Jordan Zawideh's music perfectly reflects his personal migration from Detroit to Chicago. It somehow combines the raw elegance of a Larry Heard demo (listen to the demos of "A Path" or "Acid Dreams" and cry) with Detroit Techno and an unconscious take on the sonic exploration of Drexciya, showcased in songs like "Magellanic Cloud" and "Trails of Sophia". In Jordan's sound, the raw power of the cassette era of Chicago House combines with a Detroit Acid Dream. His debut record was on K Starke Records in 2014, and while he was working at the store,
the concept for "No One (Jacks The Box)" came together. Kevin Starke proposed a concept for a collaboration, using an old Chicago radio ad, so Jordan borrowed a 303 & 707 from Kevin and some gear from Beau Wanzer, but Kevin never made the session. Ultimately we had master editor Gay Marvine edit this instant lost classic. Jordan has also released on the Nation box set, and is part of the No Way Back family. Jordan lives like a monk, in total dedication to learning his machines and advancing his craft. He is also an accomplished DJ. BMG on his edit of "Magellanic Cloud" - this is my fantasy version of this jam, its so lost in it, like a cool mature Chicago take on Gerald's jam for the Silicon Ghetto series on Accelerate, or Mika Vainio's "Spirality".

Umse is back und größer! "Wachstum"
expected to be published on 16 Jun 2023

The afrobeat-inspired eight-piece drop their hotly-anticipated debut.
A horn-fuelled, soul-shaking introduction to the young collective.
Their first solo release after featuring on london jazz primer we out here.
Kokoroko are part of the thriving scene that's grown out of london's young, jazz-influenced musical circles. Led by bandleader Sheila Maurice-Grey, their self-titled ep is the group's first solo release, following their early 2018 debut with 'Abusey Junction', a track that has gone on to accrue over 15 million plays on youtube and 2.6 million on spotify. Across the E.P's four tracks, the eight-piece deliver on the promise of that memorable introduction, offering a bigger vision of their afrobeat-influenced, soulfully-imbued sound, west african roots shaded with inner London hues.
'Abusey Junction' was first featured on we out here, the 2018 Brownswood compilation documenting London's bright-burning, jazz-influenced musical underground, picked by Rough Trade as compilation of the year 2018, and praised by the Wire, Monocle and the New York Times. Writing and performing as a group since 2014, Kokoroko have played at iconic venues from ronnie scott's, performed at the festival, Afropunk, and toured in Brazil, Colombia and France. Inspired by Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor, Tony Allen and the great sounds that come out of West Africa, Kokoroko put on a performance to honour the masters that taught them.

Beste Modus, we_r_house and Unison Wax co-founder Cinthie launches her new imprint Crystalgrooves this October with three raw House cuts.
Berlin's Cinthie has long been a respected figure in the underground electronic music scene of Berlin and further afield, heading up the Beste Modus and we_r_house imprints, as well as Unison Wax alongside Diego Krause amongst holding a residency at the infamous Watergate club in her hometown and recently opening her new record store in Friedrichshain, Elevate. It's clear to see electronic music scene plays a huge part in Cinthie's life and here we see her adding another label to her already impressive coterie of imprints, namely 803 Crystalgrooves, a platform for her own material edging towards more classic, raw House sounds in contrast to the deeper more stripped back sounds heard across the other labels. Leading on the package is the anthemic heavy hitter 'Together', a heady House groove fuelled by a filtered, funk-infused bass line, bright organ chords and bumpy 909 drums, the result is an emotive slice of peak-time house to kick start the EP.x 'Ada Lovelace' follows and tips the focus over to dusty, swinging drum sounds and an amalgamation of choppy disco string and vocal samples all intricately programmed to create a dynamic dance floor workout. 'No Need To Worry' then rounds out the package with murky bass tones, wandering stab sequences and stripped-back shuffled percussion to close the package on a more dark and brooding tip.

Parasol Dance' embodies the musical headway and fruition Fabio experienced exploring different soundscapes and rhythms in his London based studio this last year. The crisp analogue cuts in the album are peppered with Monesi's organic evolution from the New Jersey sound drawing inspiration from Jazz, Funk and even Disco, all the while never faltering on the end product of raw undulating grooves.
In a sentence, in 'Parasol Dance' Fabio has dished up a vibrant collection of raw and robust cuts that keep you locked from start to finish and will be no doubt be finding a welcome home in record bags across the globe.

Kikagaku Moyo call their sound "psychedelic" because it encompasses a broad spectrum of influence: classical Indian music, Krautrock, traditional folks, & 70s rock. "House In The Tall Grass" features a more refined Kikagaku Moyo - soft vocals, warm Sitar, & the masterful balance between loud & soft & chaos & order, taking the listener on an unexpected psychedelic journey, where their traveling songs blend the interplay of the guitars, sitars, & voices suspended beyond belief.

**BACK IN PRINT ON SINGLE LP**After three albums filled for the most part with quick song bursts and the occasional longer track, the eight-song long Bullhead found the Melvins stretching out a bit more at points, this time allowing the heavily stoned tempos plenty of time to really sprawl all over the place. There are fewer sudden shifts between fast and slow moments as well, and a lot more pure lava-flow beat-over-head feedback sludge and noise. It's not all ten mph deliberation, though - "Zodiac" shows the trio at full speed and blasting aside anything that might be so foolish as to get in its way, not to mention one unhinged Osbourne vocal lead. If grunge was achieving breakthrough status in Seattle, it was being perfected in its rawest sense on this album. Opening cut "Boris" does all this in excelsis - the band's longest recorded song at this point, nearly ten minutes long, it practically drips from the bongwater of eight million potheads, with Osbourne invoking his own brand of demons over the deep crawl of the music. Osbourne here really has got the dramatic, theatrical Ozzy Osbourne attitude down, with the occasional double-tracked vocals adding to the off-kilter intensity of the performances. Crover again shows his worth on the drums - he plays things slow most of the time but, crucially, never once sloppily - while Black keeps the bass going, however relatively unheard under Osbourne's guitar attack. "It's Shoved" is the not-so-secret highlight of Bullhead, Crover's brisker drum work and Black's sharp bass playing heralding a wild lead-guitar melody and a great ensemble performance. However, efforts like "Anaconda," with its slowly uncoiling power, and the intense "If I Had an Exorcism," which gets all the more wired and wound up as it goes (Black's bass here is some of her best), are no slouches. Ygrok brings a long-awaited fourth release to its catalog. René Audiard's Sakhalin' takes things a step away from traditional club music.
The A side, Vox Out' opens with the skeleton of a rhythm. Scattered tom drums and barely detectable whirs, fading and reeling in the background. When the distorted voices begin their story behind a hissing, grinding off-shaker, you know this will not be your traditional club track. A story develops. The barest hint of a shuffling beat, a subtle reminder of Soren's previous work, pins down the journey into the darkest psychic territory. The title track Sakhalin steps even further into darkness. Crackling electrics and disjointed atmospheres change at a glacial pace over a submerged hydraulic beat. Sakhalin Audiard experimental territory.
