DAYBREAKERS Records proudly presents ROOT DOWN 30, a celebration of one of Europe's most influential club institutions. Curated by legendary DJ, producer and tastemaker Rainer Trüby, the compilation marks three decades of Root Down, the Freiburg party that has quietly shaped dancefloors, record collections and musical conversations since 1996.

Long before genre boundaries dissolved into today's eclectic club culture, Root Down championed a unique musical vision. Jazz, Brazilian grooves, soulful house, broken beat, Afro-Latin rhythms and future-facing electronic sounds were brought together under one roof, creating a community that became a vital meeting point for adventurous dancers and deep music lovers alike.

Across thirty years, Root Down has hosted an extraordinary roll call of artists and DJs including Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jimpster, Laurent Garnier, Dixon, Peter Kruder, Richard Dorfmeister and countless others, helping establish Freiburg as an unlikely but essential stop on the global underground music map.

ROOT DOWN 30 captures that spirit perfectly. Handpicked by Trüby, the collection brings together a selection of artists whose music embodies the warmth, sophistication and dancefloor energy that have defined the party since day one. Featuring music and remixes from Jimpster, Osunlade, Da Lata, Jazzanova, Crackazat and more, the compilation moves effortlessly between soulful house, jazz-inflected club music, Brazilian influences, broken beat rhythms and deep electronic grooves.

ROOT DOWN 30 is a snapshot of an enduring musical philosophy. Thirty years after the first Root Down dancefloor came to life in Freiburg, the spirit remains unchanged: open-minded, soulful and rooted in discovery.

Die Perkussionistin Magdalena Meizner spielt spezielle Techniken auf dem Obertondreieck, dem Dubachi, den Pauken und dem Tam-Tam sowie auf gestimmten Weingläsern und gestrichenen Crotales. Die von Anna Petrini gespielte tieftönige Kontrabassblockflöte und das von Mattias Hallsten gespielte hochfrequente Sho fügen kontrastierende Akkordarrangements hinzu, die in strengen metrischen Strukturen eingebettet sind. Das Ensemble wird durch Mats Erlandsson vervollständigt, der auf E- und Akustikgitarren spielt und dabei von sanften Arpeggio-Figuren zu düsteren Drones und Feedback-Heulern wechselt.

Virgins was recorded during three periods in 2012, mostly in Reykjavik, Montreal and Seattle, using ensembles in live performance.

While this album remains committed to a painterly form of musical abstraction, it is also a record of restrained composition recorded live primarily in intimate studio rooms. This record employs woodwinds, piano and synthesizers towards an effort at doing what digital music does not do naturally—making music that is out of time, out of tune and out of phase.

Some pieces go off the rails before forming into anything, others eschew crescendo
compositional structures or bombastic density while going sideways instead. It points to the ongoing development of Hecker's work. It suggests illusory memories of drug- hazed jams or communal music performance that may have never been performed or been heard.

It is an offering of music into the void, a gift of digital filler between distractions. Yet hopefully it also stands as a document of the enduring faith in the narcotic, enigmatic function of music as long-form expression.

From the First note of "Roam the Room", Youth's massive, towering rock songs bleed emotion through until the tape runs out on album closer "Drawn Out". Rome, late afternoon, 1974. The light comes in over the colossal hills, the way it only does for an hour before the city forgives itself for the day's noise. Axefield is on an urgent quest to create cinema in the form of sound as a romantic alternative to disposable tools. He is looking for a sound so effortless he is not sure it can truly exist, but only be felt - somewhere between a film score, a heartbeat and a late night dinner at his favourite trattoria.

Ostuni Bound, NOW! is the debut album from Amsterdam-based electronic artist and composer Axefield, bringing club-heavy bass music together with the drama and romance of 70s Italian cinema. The narrative and emotions within the record stem from a romantic setting in Southern Italy that unexpectedly turned violent, forcing Axefield to flee the city after receiving the death threat "non provocare morte".

At its heart is the belief that romanticising life can lead us towards deeper human meaning, offering a different route from the hyper-capitalist pursuit of efficiency that increasingly shapes how we live and create. Throughout the album, Axefield worked through three characters representing innocence, control and destruction, using each as a framework for decisions in production, composition and mixing.

The album features Amsterdam-based rising UKG talent DANN and Johannesburg-based Kamohelo, frontman of Swedish electronic group Off The Meds. It's all starting to feel like cinematic time travel in which beauty is reintroduced in the realm of contemporary dance.

Released on Intercept alongside a beautifully crafted vinyl edition, Ostuni Bound, NOW! feels like the soundtrack to a film that was never shot. Somewhere behind him, a projector he cannot see begins to turn, playing a film for an audience that has not arrived yet.

As they arrive, he is the one who ultimately presses play.

And just like that, Ostuni Bound, NOW! Begins where Rome has always begun: beyond function and beauty and all that lingers in between.

Swedish metalcore visionaries Imminence return with their highly anticipated new album Axis Mundi via Sumerian Records. Following the breakthrough success of The Black, the band's latest full-length expands on their signature fusion of cinematic orchestration and modern metal across 11 powerful tracks, delivering their most ambitious and emotionally resonant work to date. Featuring the singles "The Sword That Never Bends" and "Crestfallen," Axis Mundi stands as Imminence's boldest work to date.

“Neither from here nor from there” is often used to describe migrant identities in territorial terms. In the case of Siete Catorce, it works better temporally: his music has always been so far ahead of its moment that it ultimately carved out a space of its own within both Latin American and global electronic music.

Born in Mexicali and shaped between the Bay Area and northern Mexico, his musical identity emerged through hip hop, dubstep, and the independent borderland scenes. After several years in Mexico City — without a clear place inside the local circuit — he created his own space through his music, developing a distinctive DJ/live set and a singular vision of contemporary Mexican electronic music, becoming a key figure within the city’s most forward-thinking underground.

In 2026, he releases El Valle, his first album in nearly three years. The record moves through different currents of electronic music — ambient, techno, cumbia, and tribal — filtered through a unique rhythmic language marked by syncopation, unpredictable breaks, and a constant tension between restraint and energy.

The album opens with “Mexicali,” alongside Andre Pereda, a tribal track stripped down to its percussive essence, evoking the genre through an ambient and synthetic approach. From there, “Aragón” and “El Rancho” progressively increase the tempo and intensity, combining cadenced phrases with minimalist tribal beats and unexpected turns.

In the second half of the album, now moving through territories of 140 BPM and beyond, tracks like “Montecarlo 1” and “Tierra Roja” drift between futuristic bass music and large-scale techno structures. This is followed by the 8-minute epic “East LA,” where Siete Catorce expands the energy of syncopated techno before releasing it into a pre-Hispanic tribal journey with flute and all the drums required for the occasion.

The closing section arrives with “Tlatelolco,” accelerating into an epic cumbia infused with trance references, and “Los Pinos,” a direct and forceful finale sustained by some of the album’s most precise sound design.

More than genres, Siete Catorce’s work is defined by meticulous sound design and an exceptional rhythmic sensibility — qualities that have established him as one of the most respected drum programmers of his generation.

Inspiriert von Pauline Oliveros' Schriften über innerlich abrufbare Klänge, die für andere unhörbar sind, sowie von Apichatpong Weerasethakuls Film ,Memoria" aus dem Jahr 2021, betrachtet Villain die Erinnerung sowohl als kognitive Fähigkeit als auch als Form der Komposition und formt Samples aus ihrem eigenen Archiv zu einer kosmischen Selbstbeobachtung - wenn auch zu einer, die das Gegenteil von Solipsismus ist. Der nach innen gerichtete Blick des Albums lässt sich vom tiefen Zuhören als Form der Empathie inspirieren, das uns gleichzeitig mit uns selbst und unserer Umgebung verbindet. The Modern Jazz Quartet had become a jazz institution by the time Pyramid was recorded. Formed out of the rhythm section of the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band (1946 -48), founding of the members The MJQ , pianist Lohn Lewis and vibraphonist Milt Jackson , brought a sophisticated blend of jazz and classical music to audiences around the world. Active from 1952 through to 1997 (with a seven- year break in between), the MJQ's 38- year reign counts as being among the most enduring ensembles in jazz history. Presented here is their classic album Pyramid , featuring three compositions by the quartet's pianist John Lewis (including his hit 'Django), alongside jazz standards by Ellington, Ray Brown ('Pyramid'), and Jim Hall; plus, a unique take on the Nancy Hamiton & Morgan Lewis' popular standard, 'How High The Moon'.

Presented here is the complete 1962 album Evidence, Steve Lacy's fourth album as a leader. It presents him in a piano-less quartet with Don Cherry on trumpet, Carl Brown on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The repertoire consists exclusively of compositions by Lacy's heroes, Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington. Includes the bonus tracks 'Day Dream' and 'Ask me Now'. Out There was Eric Dolphy's second LP as a leader, taped in 1960 the same year he recorded his debut LP, Outward Bound - both for Prestige Records. Although these were his first recordings as a leader, Dolphy was already a veteran performer with considerable recording experience. He had formed part of drummer Roy Porter's orchestra during 1948-1950 (with whom he waxed his first sides), and in 1949 he made his first recording with Charles Mingus, who would serve as his employer and mentor for many years. The instrumentation used on Out There is quite unusual, with Eric Dolphy playing in a quartet format with Ron Carter on cello, George Duvivier on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums.

Spring 2026 saw The Proclaimers recording their new album, You May Offend. It is brothers Craig and Charlie Reid’s first album since 2022’s hugely acclaimed Denture’s Out (“Proves you don't need to be a young pretender to land hit after palpable hit,” – MOJO magazine). Their 13th studio album’s 12 tracks – punchy and punky, rousing and carousing, tender and tough – were recorded at Monmouth’s legendary Rockfield Studios with producer Dave Eringa, their crack live band – Steven Christie, Garry John Kane, Zac Ware and Clive Jenner – and frequent guest guitarist, Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield. The result is an album, as ever, concise as well as incisive, and about looking forward. Pushing on and digging into the issues and feelings that matter to them here, now and tomorrow, not yesterday, as with the title track, and first single, a lament for the state of free speech, with Charlie approving of the fact that the title can be taken two ways: “As in: ‘Look, careful what you do, you may offend someone.’ Or: ‘OK children, you may now offend.’ Is it an instruction or an invitation? This album was born from a long-held, quiet ambition. I always wanted to navigate the entire journey of a record – from the first written note to the final mix. Winterglare is the result of finally stepping into that journey. Recorded in my home, the process was inextricably linked to the life happening just outside the door. Being surrounded by the daily routine and family created a unique tension; time felt precious, limited, and often fleeting. At first, finding mental stillness felt impossible. Yet as the winter deepened, a shift occurred. I found a place of unexpected calmness, where the music began to float, and the domestic noises around me became an accompaniment rather than an interruption. What began as an idea for a piano album expanded to include the Wurlitzer electric piano and the Gigster vibraphone. Some pieces evolved into experiments with percussion, accordion, and finally, the Roland tape echo and field recordings. Throughout this growth, the vision remained: to preserve a sense of space and time, allowing the true ambience of the moment to breathe. My hope is that these compositions find a place in your own quiet moments. Taken together, his ten studio albums amount to an ongoing conversation about family, memory, love, loss, absurdity, and the strange beauty hidden inside ordinary days. The realization that today’s routine may someday become the part of your life you miss most. Despite its title, Hayden's new album "The Recent Past" isn’t nostalgic so much as observant. It reflects on the strange feeling of longing for a time that wasn’t all that long ago, but it’s also about trying to stay rooted in the present while everything around us speeds up. It is a rich addition to Hayden’s continuing search for unsung moments. There’s heartache on this album, some frank declarations, a lot of comfort and danceable surprises. After years of mixing his own records, Hayden gave the final mixes to Grammy-winning engineer Tom Schick, whose work with Jeff Tweedy, Wilco, Mavis Staples and Willie Nelson had long been an inspiration. Adding subtle colours on the album are drummer Adam Hindle, pedal steel player Matt Kelly, fiddler Miranda Mulholland and upright bassist Ben Whiteley. "The Recent Past" is the perfect record to play when things are coming at you, when you want to take a breath, reflect, escape. Whatever memories or struggles play out you can hum to heartbreak, have lunch with your kid, know that trouble is out there for everyone but somehow this is still a beautiful day.

Following one of 2025’s standout EPs, the CEO of the National Centre for Mark Fell Studies fires from the hip in brilliant, club-troubling motion. In step with 30 years of prism-pushing work — and particularly the »Nite Closures« EP, which signalled a concerted return to the dancefloor — Fell pulls aspects of hypermodern dance and electronic music from Chicago, Tanzania, and Japan into his own peculiar agenda.

The hugely distinctive results pull the body into thrillingly unusual, typically ascetic arrangements, activating every pointillist drum hit with attack and decay in a soberly ludic play of rhythmelodic tension and release, executed to delirious ends; 40 minutes of computer music.

As an artist who witnessed first-hand the explosion of electronic music in early ’80s Sheffield, and its interplay with house and rave as it refracted into wild new styles during the ’90s, Mark Fell is uniquely positioned to pursue his passion for the dynamics of electronic dance music to the nth degree. »Servitude In Context« continues to develop ideas around music for movement in the mid-2020s, placing decades of keen observation — from the macro and historical to the niche and hypermodern — at the service of flexing bodies in new directions.

Long-held notions of multistability manifest in what feels like two machines playing chess on the dancefloor, attempting to adapt to each other’s playing styles and patterns in real time, anticipating and zigzagging around the next move. The result is a plethora of options for limber dancers and those who only bust a move inside their heads.

The slow-fast play of accelerating and decelerating strikes, alongside monotonic chatter in »Actuations #1 (Extended)«, acclimatises the body to a uniquely sensual physics. This develops into the rudely screwed, asymmetric angularity of »Time-Slur« and the shatterproof elasticity of »Taut Manifold«, which feels like an LLM trained on Autechre.

»Low Energy Mantra« offers the EP’s closest resemblance to melodic structure, like gamelan and footwork refracted through lab-grown diamonds. Then »Anode« flashes its teeth with a rudeness recalling the latter stages of Fell’s Pat Thomas jams, before »3 Lost Contours (Pts 1–5)« tilts into 12 minutes of proper quicksilver madness, balancing the sexiness of his Sensate Focus work with an updated, clean-hoofed step and parry.

Roberto Musci returns with 'Dusty Colors', an extraordinary new album by one of the leading figures of Italian minimalism. Staying true to his unique approach to electroacoustic composition—which was already revolutionary in the legendary 'The Loa of Music' (1984)—Musci weaves together field recordings, samples, and instrumental elements, drawing primarily on sounds and recordings collected during his travels in India over the past two years. The result is an immersive and deeply sensitive work—an exciting new chapter in a career that defies convention.

We're back in quick succession with release number nine, this time welcoming talented UK artist Front Bench to the label.

Following the launch of his own imprint, 199, and its debut EP earlier this year, Richard returns with his second release. Across four versatile tracks, he delivers a collection built for a range of spaces and occasions, with each cut unfolding gradually through evolving textures and finely layered arrangements.

Veerus & Mattia Saviolo bring their A-game for the brilliant ‘Move Your Body’. The Italian compatriots aren’t new faces to Drumcode. Veerus has earned his stripes via five fantastic EP over an eight-year period, highlighted by ‘Hypnosis’, ‘System’ and ‘Cycle’. Meanwhile Mattia Saviolo is a recent debutant dropping the excellent ‘Parallel Dimension’ on A-Sides Vol.10. When Veerus suggested a collaboration to Mattia, he didn’t mince his words. “Yes, but it has to be a bomb!” Over two days the pair locked in to build an outstanding peak-time production from the ground up. “We started completely from scratch, with no ideas prepared in advance and no project exchanges before meeting. In just two days the track was finished and everything happened very naturally. We both brought our own vision into the process without stepping on each other’s toes, which made the collaboration feel effortless from start to finish,” Veerus shares. ‘Move Your Body’ has a distinct charismatic appeal not commonly found in techno tracks, highlighted by a stomping riff throughout and tension-filled break, before it turns into a pumping cut in the final stanza. A straight-up belter! Accompanying it is a captivating solo track from Mattia, ‘Mindframe’. An absolute gem, file under futuristic techno that sounds like no other.

We are delighted to welcome back one of our most cherished artists, Life Recorder, for the third instalment of his remarkable Time Moods series on Visions Recordings.

Far from the hype, French DJ and producer Kriss, aka Life Recorder, has been steadily shaping a distinctive sonic identity over the years. Deeply influenced by the heritage of Detroit and Chicago’s house and techno scenes, his sound travels effortlessly across genres while remaining rooted in soulful depth.

Born in the French suburbs of Geneva and now based in Marseille, he began his journey in the 1990s, connecting with music through record shops, DJing, and the evolving club culture of the time.
With this third chapter of Time Moods, Life Recorder continues to craft a timeless and introspective musical narrative.

Shaka from Switzerland has always been someone on our radar and after receiving a test pressing of his release on Seasons Limited of the track Smoky Club the question was asked to do something to suit Ten Lovers Music and he has delivered. Drafting in Michael Berry on additional keys and Martin Cappi on flute, From West To South is as at home on the dancefloor as it is nodding along to at home.

Onto side AA and Takahiro Fuchigami from Japan delivers 3 superb broken beat gems, Rhythm Section, Sliding Window and Sparkling Fate are all very different but musically perfect to our ears.

After 4 years of re-issuing some of the best house and disco, from hard to find deep-house gems to all times classics, Groovin Recordings are really excited to start releasing new music too, featuring some of the best young producers from the new generation. The first release introduces Groove Boys Project (Lucas Moinet and Alexandre Valard), a talented duo from Paris with a unique sound, a classy mix of fender rhodes, jazz chords, MPC based drum beats, soulful strings and some classic synths.

Nu Vision is the latest project of Duke Cooper, band leader and label boss of Nation, Kode and DirtyBlends. There are three humans who make up Nu Vision, and they all have their own stories and discographies, records released on labels you might know, gigs played in Chicago or Berlin or someone’s loft, lives lived, friends made, sleep lost - fighting for theirart, standing by truths, defending voices, honoring progenitors, whilst pushing a new paradigm. Time is both fleeting and heavy for us all, but it is not without receipts.

Inspired from electrifying songs produced by Chrislo Haas (DAF) and Beate Bartel (Mania D. / Matador) reinforced by Krishna Goineau’s French and Spanish Speech-Attack-Lyrics Liaisons Dangereuses created a unique style anything other than a Berlin or Düsseldorf ‘thing’ – that was propelled to an international underground phenomenon of fame.

Nu VIsion was inspired to create a blueprint from the period of their productions of 1981-1982 with an electronic-dance direction paying homage with passionate craftsmanship utilizing what equipment was possible in the studio at the time of this recording featuring new members; Zoe Murphy & Fletch The Stranger on vocals and James Chazz on Saxaphone with a Ring Modulator.

Label boss Alessio Collina is finally here with his first E.P on the limited series! “Shades of me E.P” is one of the most personal work he ever made until now because it touches different styles of House, rooted always from the same school. We start from the A side where we find “Bloom in the garage” as first track: Old-school groove, fat bassline, dirty drums and some Garage stabs with the hot swing by MPC1000. The second track is “Back to the real”: a sexy, mental Deep/Tribal tune which can be fit in a warm up set or during an intimate Afterhour. In the B side we have “Spring Equinox”, a Techy roller with an absolute killer bassline, some dreamy melodies and a dynamic stab: dancefloor weapon. We close the record with “The Party” on the B2, which sounds like an old dark Chicago House record but revisited in an alternative way.

Two Thou’s Oraculu releases a full length spiritual electronics LP with tubaredefining Theon Cross, homeboy Taymour Khajah, soulful presence of D’Monk and Division81 vibe designer Sonny Daze. The sun-inspired record sets a high energy moment for Oraculu, blurring all the lines between the dancefloor, the horns, Berlin, London, Chicago, and Sardinia. This record is about change. I’ve started to be less interested in the fire of the sun, the explosion, the heat. The consistency, the orbit, the return got my full attention. Until it clicked, that repetition is a fundamental aspect of change.

We are in-between again: FELT founder Fergus Jones surfaces on his own label for the first time with this dreamy, dubby pair of introspective tracks featuring the hazy, elegiac vocals of Thomas Bush, back on FELT after 2023's split cassette with Princess Diana of Wales. The results of a three-day studio bender in Copenhagen, Bush's entrancing vocals gesture towards the unchangeable past and unknowable future, creating a vital, pumping circulatory system of sound, further supported by the saxophone of Italian-Danish artist Francesca Buratelli and the (vinyl debut) of New York's Yumi with a notable interjection on "Untitled (Mix 1)”.

Waking Dreams returns with “Fantasies,” a four-track excursion by Aline Umber and AGELESS that explores the hypnotic facets of deep house. Featuring the label’s most sought-after ID, the title track finally receives its official release, unfolding as a meditative yet driving cut built on understated percussion and an airtight groove. Lush chords douse the track’s atmosphere, while dubby synth stabs and a spoken-word vocal cut through the arrangement, deepening its hypnotic pull and transfixing the listener. Dan Ghenacia takes things deeper with his electro-tinged rework, expanding on the original’s addictive groove with angular drumwork, adding further club functionality and sharpening it into a darker, more introspective counterpoint. Two additional originals round out the collaborative EP with brighter, kinetic energy.

Based in Cornwall, Blind Yeo emerged from the isolation of lockdown. Built as an open collective, the project brings together musicians, visual artists and performers, developing a practice rooted in improvisation, live energy and shared creation. The Lemoine Point, their debut album, was recorded on a disused airfield near St Agnes. The title refers to a hidden geometric centre where lines converge, a metaphor that runs through the record as past, present and future meet within a single moment. Much of the album was captured live by a core ensemble including Sam Pert, Phil Self, Henry Greenham, Philippa Blum, Jake Sheridan, Will Greenham and Anouska Helm. These recordings are balanced by more intimate sessions, shaping a sound that moves between reworked folk traditions, electronic textures and raw, organic energy. Across the album, fragments of stories and emotions intertwine, exploring themes of love, duality and disorientation in time. Rooted in the Cornish landscape yet open in form, The Lemoine Point unfolds as a space where place, people and memory converge into a fluid and immersive whole.

The fifth LP in the long history of the label comes from another Belgian producer who is ready to fly high. After San Soda, Metrobox, Uni Son and label boss Red D it is now time for Tom Smeyers to step up and take us into his universe of warm grooves and sweet house music…with a twist.

Taking in influences from around the full spectrum of electronic music these six tracks represent what Tom is about at the moment. From deepest old school inspired house to more broken beat action right into drum’n’bass territory, with an attention to detail and experienced sound design.

As if that wasn’t enough Tom also took care of the artwork to match his music. We here at WPH call that a 360 artist. Welcome to the family Tom Smeyers!

Forbidden Dance Records returns with its 13th release to the city where the label's journey first began: Chicago.
For The Black Is The Night EP, longtime Chicago house figure Vick Lavender joins forces with multi-instrumentalist Justin Dillard for three deeply musical downtempo cuts, bringing together the language of Chicago house with jazz, soul and live instrumentation.
Born and raised on Chicago's West Side, Dillard is a pianist, Hammond organist, percussionist, composer and arranger whose musical path has crossed with figures such as Branford Marsalis, Ornette Coleman, Roscoe Mitchell and the late Von Freeman. His musicianship has also become an integral part of Lavender's richly organic productions over the years.
Across three tracks, Lavender and Dillard slow down the tempo without losing the pulse. Warm keys, live instrumentation and loose percussion unfolding through the kind of deep, soulful arrangements that have long defined their work together.
A return to Chicago, but from a different angle.
