Parade Ground has always been the duo of brothers Jean-Marc and Pierre Pauly from Brussels, Belgium formed in 1981. Taking cues from Post-Punk, Coldwave, Dada and Surrealism, Parade Ground channeled suffering, tension and rage through pulsing synthesizers, skeletal guitar, severe bass and Jean-Marc’s expressive vocals as the most melodic and emotional instrument. The Golden Years is an 11-song, career-spanning collection of Parade Ground’s long out-of-print 7” and 12” singles as well as rare compilation tracks from the pioneers of electronic body music created during 1982-1988.

Parade Ground first appeared on the Nationale Rockmeeting LP in 1982, striking straight to the heart with the passionate plea “I Shut My Eyes.” Later that year the brothers met Daniel B. and Patrick Codenys of Front 242 beginning a collaborative partnership that continues to present day. In 1983 they released their debut 3-song 7” EP Moan On The Sly on the New Dance label, musically a hybrid of Joy Division and Fad Gadget. 1984 brought further explorations into the world of electronic body music with the 3-song Man In A Trance EP and 2 tracks on the live concert compilation Mask Promotion both records released on Front 242's Mask Music label. The following year the single Took Advantage/Moral Support 12” was released incorporating then, state-of-the-art modular synthesizers programmed by Daniel B. and back-up vocals from Flo Sullivan (A Formal Sigh, Shiny Two Shiny). Then in 1987 the brothers collaborated with Colin Newman of British post-punk band Wire, who produced and lent his vocals, guitars and keyboards to two songs ("Moans"/"Action Replay") while Daniel B. produced flipside "Gold Rush" on the Dual Perspective EP that stands alongside 80s anthems from Tears for Fears, Modern English, Echo & The Bunnymen. Finally in 1988 their debut album Cut Up was released on Play It Again Sam Records and featured the singles Strange World and Hollywood. In 1993 the brothers wrote and composed the vocals on two Front 242 albums Up Evil and Off. After 15 years of silence the boys released their second album Rosary in 2007 and continue to write new material and tour with their extensive catalog of dark dance classics. Each LP includes a 6-page press kit with lyrics, discography, photos and liner notes by Daniel B. of Front 242. The history of Belgian electronic music would not be complete without a trip through “The Golden Years” of Parade Ground.

"Whistle from Above" is David Grubbs" first Drag City release in over a decade and his first-ever instrumental album for the label. The suspiciously youthful Grubbs is four decades into his career, with former bands including Gastr del Sol, Squirrel Bait, and Bastro, along with a wild ride of collaborators including f.e. Bitch Magnet, Codeine, The Red Krayola, Royal Trux, Dirty Three, Will Oldham, The Underflow and The Wingdale Community Singers. "Whistle from Above" is the first solo collection David has released since 2017"s Creep Mission. During the 2020 shutdown, David played what he precisely quantified as "a shit-ton of guitar," more than he could recall playing ever previously. Reinvigorated by this period of enforced woodshedding, he produced a series of new pieces, mostly for guitar, but also a piano composition and an exceptionally eerie bit of musique concrète. Meanwhile, David was reconnecting with the Gastr del Sol archive, as a new collection of old performances was being prepared from extensive archival material. The duo magic of that storied collaboration (released in 2024 as We Have Dozens of Titles) left David hungry to play in this format again - as he had recently with Loren Connors, Alan Courtis, Manuel Mota, and Liam Keenan. These duo experiences showed David the path forward to complete this new solo material. Thus he sought out collaborations with folks he"s called "some of the musicians whom I adore most on the planet" - Rodri Davies, Andrea Belfi, Nikos Veliotis, Nate Wooley, and Cleek Schrey - and their stunning contributions flesh out Grubbs" innate, deeply person brand of minimalism. "Whistle from Above" is a colourful, compulsive set of instrumental pieces in which David and his chosen collaborators interact amid the steady roll of an expansive landscape based in the hypnosis of David"s immediately recognizable guitar style.

Building on the acclaim of the band"s earlier work, Needlepoint"s newest offering Remnants Of Light skillfully weaves together proto-prog, British folk, soft rock, and jazz-rock influences, resonating with the sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s that defined this vibrant musical era. Despite the departure of David and Olaf since their last studio album Walking Up That Valley (2021), Needlepoint"s spirit remains undiminished. They have crafted what they regard as a child of love. Bjorn Klakegg, the band"s wordsmith, is responsible for the evocative lyrics as well as the melodic and harmonic structures, while Nikolai Hængsle (Elephant9, BigBang) continues to steer the project as the producer and musical director, shaping the sound and arrangements. The inclusion of fresh talents like Erlend Slettevoll - who made his debut with Needlepoint on In Concert (2023) and is known for his work with the acclaimed post-bop ensemble The Core - along with the dynamic Ola Overby from Norway"s celebrated funk-soul ensemble Fieh, promises an inspiring new chapter for the band. Their contributions on Remnants Of Light are refreshing and palatable.

'Spring Board: The Early Unrecorded Songs" ist/war das letzte leidenschaftliches Projekt von Chills' Martin Phillipps vor seinem plötzlichen Tod. Es ist eine engagierte Neuinterpretation früher, unveröffentlichter Songs, die zu seinem künstlerischen Abschied, einem bleibenden Vermächtnis und einer Erinnerung an sein großes, unterschätztes Talent werden. Ben Avgay (Silvi Jan) and Eden Atiya (Rasco) met in 2020, both working on their own musical projects and bands. In 2021 love has sprung and it was inevitable that the two would start their own musical project. Thus came Alligator Ladies to the world, a love-child of two people who share excitement for the same genres and aesthetics. Influenced from garage, freak folk and mystical creatures such as Ramases & Selket, Thee oh Sees, Ty Segall, MGMT and more, Ben and Eden begun writing songs and recording Demos in their home studio. Eden's song writing qualities and Ben's production, sound engineering and orchestrations mesh together to form the two-headed monster we call - Alligator Ladies.

Portland-based ambient architect and far afield sound technician Graintable, aka James Cooke returns with his debut outing on Music To Watch Seeds Grow By and his fourth in the R$N stable; 'Blue Flax'. Following his acclaimed and sold out cassette releases 'Herons', 'Universal Ash' and ‘The Rain In The Trees’ on Ransom Note Records, this new collection sees Cooke delving deeper into the intersection of natural processes and liminal organic electronics.

'Blue Flax', the resilient flowering plant celebrated for its delicate blue blooms and medicinal applications, is native to the Pacific Northwest - the region Cooke calls home. This plant has long grown on the ancestral lands of the Wasco, Klickitat, Warm Springs, Cayuse, and Umatilla tribes. Its connection to this landscape underscores the album’s themes, weaving together ten intricate ambient pieces that reflect the plant's dual nature of part healer, part object of wonder. Recorded during the transitional hours of dawn and dusk in his Portland studio, Cooke’s soundscapes capture both the meditative aspects of watching plants grow and the gradual transformation of organic matter into usable forms. The centrepiece of the album Cerulian FIelds, reminds of the early morning light, those inspiring hours before the rest of the world wakes and the first shoots break through the soil into the new dawn. It’s a beautiful crystallisation of what is Cooke’s most comprehensive collection of meditative compositions to date.

Gitarren? Wer braucht schon Gitarren im Heavy Metal? YEAR OF THE COBRA können locker darauf verzichten - zumindest auf die mit den dünnen Saiten, die vor allem zum Herumfummeln taugen. Frontfrau Amy Tung Barrysmith holt aus ihrem Bass einen derartig fetten Groove und satte Heaviness heraus, die als Raketentreibstoff mehr als ausreichen, um den dröhnenden Zwillingsmotor aus Doom Metal und psychedelischem Sludge ihres selbstbetitelten dritten Albums anzutreiben. "Year of the Cobra" ist eindeutig aus der Saat seiner beiden Vorgänger, "...in the Shadows Below" (2016) und "Ash and Dust" (2019), erwachsen - und übertrifft sie noch. YEAR OF THE COBRA konnten ihr Songwriting verfeinern, kommen noch mehr auf den Punkt und punkten mit eingängigen, aber dennoch superschweren Melodien, die exakt auf die stärksten Aspekte der Band zugeschnitten sind. Amy Tung Barrysmiths mal samtene, mal raue Altstimme und das nahtlose rhythmische Zusammenwirken von ihrem Bass und Jon Barrysmiths gefühlvollem Schlagzeugspiel gelangen dadurch in den Vordergrund. ascha Funke is creating a long overdue monument to an almost forgotten cultural artefact of the GDR: the ‘Germina Speeder’ was the only skateboard made in East Germany before reunification and was launched in 1986. It was produced by VEB Schokoladen-Verarbeitungsmaschinen (a state-owned chocolate processing machine factory) in Wernigerode and was therefore affectionately known as the ‘chocolate board’. However, it was hardly suitable for actual skateboarding due to technical inadequacies. It is not known whether Sascha himself owned such a board, but the tracks on the ‘Germina Speeder’ EP definitely roll better than the original. The opener ‘Blaupunkt’ breathes the euphoric spirit of the legendary Berlin club ‘E-Werk’, while the title track would have been more at home at the ‘Dubmission’ parties in the Turbine. Sascha leaves the 90s behind with radiant positivism; ‘Bo Knows’ sounds more like a 2000s open air at Café Schönbrunn. The EP closes with ‘Mastermind’, a high-octane psy-proghouse banger that, like all four tracks, quotes the past but still has both feet on today’s dance floors. Or rather, is dancing. 4:1 for love!

Es war ein Erzeugnis des VEB Schokoladen-Verarbeitungsmaschinen aus Wernigerode und wurde daher liebevoll auch als “Schoko-Board” bezeichnet. Zum eigentlichen Skateboardfahren war es allerdings aufgrund von technischen Unzulänglichkeiten kaum zu gebrauchen. Ob Sascha selbst ein solches Board besaß ist nicht überliefert, aber die Tracks auf der “Germina Speeder” EP rollen allemal besser als das Original. Der Opener “Blaupunkt” atmet den euphorischen Geist des legendären Berliner Clubs “E-Werk”, während der Titeltrack eher bei den “Dubmission” Parties in der Turbine gelaufen wäre. Mit strahlendem Positivismus verlässt Sascha die 90er; “Bo Knows” klingt eher nach einem 2000er Open Air am Café Schönbrunn im Volkspark Friedrichshain. Die EP schließt mit “Mastermind”, einem hochoktanigen Psy-Proghouse Knaller, der wie alle vier Tracks zwar das Vergangene zitiert, aber dennoch mit beiden Füßen auf den Tanzflächen von heute steht. Beziehungsweise tanzt. 4:1 für die Liebe!

"Summer of Synesthesia" takes us back to those dreamy summer days, a natural overpour of sensations mixing together, sounds becoming colors before turning into flavors. Synthesizers grow into delicate layers over Cold Diamond & Mink's rhythm, and when your heart can hardly bear the beauty of it all, Tenor's soft lyric places the cherry on top. "Tsicroxe" on the flipside couldn't be more different, kicking into gear with a demonic organ arpeggio that sounds like you've just been dropped into a Dario Argento scene. Even though the familiar funk from Cold Diamond & Mink eases the dread a bit, when Tenor busts in with the eerie flute solo, the ritual closes in on its conclusion.

The Standard School Broadcast Recordings, einst als lange verschollene (und in den meisten Fällen völlig

noch nicht entdeckt, sein brillantes Album, das er zu Beginn seiner Karriere aufgenommen hat, vor erfolgreichen Veröffentlichungen wie „Chattin’ With Chet“, „That Summer“ und „Oceana“, und bevor er eine
Grammy-Nominierung und drei ECHO-Jazz erhielt.
1995 bot sich dem damals 24-jährigen Trompeter die Gelegenheit, in den USA mit Musikern seiner Wahl
ein Album aufzunehmen. „Midnight“ präsentiert die erstaunlichen Sidemen Michael Brecker, sicherlich der
beste Tenorsaxofonist seiner Generation, Gitarrist Dean Brown, Bassist Anthony Jackson, Schlagzeuger
Dennis Chambers und Weather-Report-Perkussionist Manolo Badrena. Hinzu kommen David Mann von
Tower of Power und George Whitty von der Brecker-Brothers-Band.
„Midnight“ wurde auf einem Independent-Label veröffentlicht und sorgte damals noch nicht für das verdiente internationale Aufsehen. Nach ihrem zweiten Sieg in Folge als ”Jazz Group of the Year” bei der DownBeat-Leserumfrage kehren
ARTEMIS mit ihrem dritten Blue-Note-Album zurück, als Quintett-Besetzung unter Leitung der Pianistin

wurde, war bislang unbekannt. Im Nachlass ihres Managers Norman Granz fanden sich jetzt die von Wally
Heider hervorragend aufgenommenen 4-Spur-Bänder, und die haben es in sich! Ella war in phänomenaler
Form und wurde vom Trio aus Jimmy Jones, Bob Cranshaw und Sam Woodyard sowie Ellington-Legenden
wie Paul Gonsalves, Jimmy Hamilton und Johnny Hodges zusätzlich beflügelt.
Vom swingenden Opener “The Moment Of Truth” und dem lässigen Klassiker „Let’s Do It“ bis zum
Fitzgerald-Evergreen „Mack The Knife“ ist alles dabei, was man als Fan liebt. Zwei zusätzliche Pop-Songs
der Sixties transponiert Ella meisterhaft in die Jazz-Welt: die bittersüße Ballade „Alfie“ von Burt Bacharach

2025 markiert gleich ein dreifaches Jubiläum Udo Lindenbergs. 1995 erscheint „Kosmos“. Eine wahre Wundertüte an neuen Sounds. Lindenberg experimentiert souverän mit knalligem Funk, Walzer und Computer
Beats. Jetzt ist das Album, welches damals nur auf Kassette und CD erschien, in neuem Gewand zurück.
Die 30. Jubiläumsedition kommt als farbige Doppel-LP in „Sparkle Universe“ in streng limitierter und von
Hand nummerierter Auflage in den Handel. Auch mit dabei: ein besonderes Booklet, in welchem sogleich
das zweite große Jubiläum Lindenbergs zelebriert wird: sein Start in die Welt der bildenden Künste.
Schon zuvor skribbelte und zeichnete Lindenberg leidenschaftlich gern. Die Veröffentlichung des Albums
„Kosmos“ nahm er sich allerdings zum Anlass, parallel einen Kunstkalender zu veröffentlichen – sein erster
offzieller Auftritt als bildender Künstler. Der Kunstkalender beinhaltete passend zu jedem der 12 Songs
auf dem Album ein eigenes Werk. Diese finden sich heute im Booklet der Vinyl und der CD wieder. Wie
heute bekannt ist, markiert dieser Kalender damit den Startschuss für seine zweite bahnbrechende Karriere
als Maler.
Auch das Dritte, 30-jährige Jubiläum ist ein wichtiger Teil seines Lebens: 1995 bezog Lindenberg seine
„Panikzentrale“ im Hotel Atlantic, wo er den Dachboden als Atelier nutzt und das Hotel einige seiner Werke
ausstellt.
Um diese Jubiläen gebührend zu feiern, erscheint die Neuauflage des Albums am 28. Februar im Handel.
