Little Dragon - die bahnbrechende schwedische Band um die rätselhafte Sängerin Yukimi Nagano, den Multiinstrumentalisten Håkan Wirenstarnd und Fredrik Wallin an Keyboard und Bass und Erik Bodin an Schlagzeug und Perkussion - kehren mit ihrem sechsten Studioalbum „New Me, Same Us“ zurück.

Für eine Band, die stolz darauf ist, abseits gängiger Hörgewohnheiten zu stehen und die sich mit aller Entschlossenheit dafür einsetzt, die Dinge zu ihren eigenen Bedingungen zu verwirklichen, haben sie bislang nicht gerade wenig Anerkennung im Mainstream bekommen. Mit dem Grammy für ihr Album „Nabuma Rubberband“ im Jahr 2014 nominiert, gelten Little Dragon seit langem als eine der gefragtesten Gruppen für Kollaborationen. Im Laufe der Jahre ist eine beneidenswerte Liste an Künstlerinnen und Künstlern zusammengekommen, mit denen sie zusammengearbeitet haben, darunter bspw. BADBADNOTGOOD, Gorillaz, SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Flume, Kaytranada, Big Boi, De La Soul, DJ Shadow, Tinashe, Mac Miller, Future, Raphael Saadiq oder Faith Evans. Ihre berühmt-berüchtigte Live-Performance hat eine mittlerweile zehnjährige Tourneekarriere nach sich gezogen, in dessen Verlauf sie kürzlich gemeinsam mit Flying Lotus als Co-Headliner eine Show im Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles gespielt haben, sowie auf einigen der weltweit angesehensten Festivals wie Coachella, Glastonbury, Bestival, Lollapalooza, Melt!, Dour, Sónar und dem Festival von Tyler, The Creator, „Camp Flog Gnaw“, aufgetreten sind.

Vollkommen alleine und ohne Unterstützung von außen im langjährigen und selbstgebauten Heim-Studio in Göteborg produziert und aufgenommen, repräsentiert „New Me, Same Us“ ein weiteres Kapitel in der kontinuierlichen Entwicklung von Little Dragon. So here’s some back story, garnered from the hearsay, folk law, the myths and the legends, of 10 years ago, in case, like Mo & Zeb, if they'd remembered any of it, they probably weren’t there, after 2 much acclaimed albums and sellout shows vanishing in a cosmic cloud of dust the yin and yang brothers Mo Morris (ZSOU/Electric Stew) & Zeb Jameson (Oasis/Tricky/Pretenders) uncoupled and each em- barked on a pathfinder mission to equip themselves for their inevitable return... they just didn’t know it at the time... and as the global community ground to a halt 2 years ago they sought refuge from opposite sides of the planet in each other's company again.

The solace and rejuvenation it gave had them re-emerging as invigorated, inspired and wiser music creators, this has given rise to the evolution of their 3rd all important album‘s sound.

With a little bit of old and a little bit of new, Chicago's enigmatic Rudy De Anda is back with two tracks out on a super-limited 45. The A-side, 'Take Me For A Little While' is a cover of the Royal Jester's version of the track, taken from the Numero Group catalog. It's an up-tempo, irresistible tune in both Spanish and English. The B-side, '83,' is a brand new Rudy original recorded in his current home of Chicago. It's a collaborative effort that came naturally from building on grooves and jamming with his band. It's a taste of what's on the horizon for Rudy, something fresh, moody, and intriguing. It's an ode to 70s funk, with just the right amount of groove and low-fi charm. The two tracks compliment each other and make for a well rounded 45, while demonstrating the breadth of Rudy's sound.

This record is different. It is different from what might be expected of Jan Emil Mlynarski by those who know him, from sold-out shows and platinum albums of his bands – Jazz Band Młynarski – Masecki and Warsaw Dance Combo, as an old-timer, curator and reenactor of pre-World War II Warsaw's plush dancehalls and backyards folklore. Quite likely they may not recognize him until the last song, when he removes his shaman mask and bows down: Yeah, that's really me, folks, your good ol' Jan Emil, the entertainer. They might not have even known that he ever played drums because in his flagship bands, clad in a white tux in the former or in a Peaky Blinder hat in the latter, he sings and plays mandolin banjo. In fact, Młynarski has been a drummer for a lot longer than a singer. He stands clear of the jazz mainstream but is active on the progressive scene. A record he contributed to, trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski's 2022 release The Individual Beings, was recognized by Downbeat magazine as "excellent" and awarded the highest rating of five stars.

However, this is the first instrumental record to bear his name. As an album by a drummer, it stands out from other records, especially as it features drums as the principal content rather than the performance by a band with a drummer as the leader. It's all about drums, there is neither an articulate melody – because the melodies that are there are only micro-linesencased in ostinato modules – nor is harmony as an intentional chord progression – because whatever harmony-wise there is, is rather a product of the counterpoint of overlapping voices. All sounds other than the drums make only a riverbed through which runs a raging stream of rhythms. And indeed, this record took off just with this stream. At first all the drums were recorded live onto an analog tape, all at once, without overdubs or editing. After that, synthesizer riffs were added, and the record was ultimately assembled on tape without the use of computers or complex postproduction, which sets it apart from most releases today.

Młynarski the drummer acknowledges that he follows the trail beaten by Art Blakey, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, and Billy Higgins, but he walks it in his own strides. He treats the jazz drumming with specific reversed engineering by decompiling the jazz drum kit originally compiled by the pioneer jazz drummers from an array of instruments that had made their way from a jungle to New Orleans, first to Congo Square and then to street brass bands.

This takes him back to the jungle, his drums don't sound like jazz drums, the snare is rare, and the hi-hat and ride aren't there at all. Instead, there are drums and bells from Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire. He doesn't sound like a jazz drummer either, but like a gang of drummers, each playing their own rhythm, and it's hard to believe that all this is the work of one man.

Not only his drumware comes from the jungle, but also the software – his approach to rhythm and time. Its essence is polyrhythm and ostinato. The polyrhythmic matters were unveiled to Młynarski and Piotr Zabrodzki, his creative partner in many projects and co-composer/producer of this album, by the legendary eccentric veteran-drummer Władysław Jagiełło, who introduced them, aged thirteen, to his concept and practice of "17 Latino rhythms at once". Ostinato, an obstinate repetition of a phrase or rhythm, "arrests" time, turning its linear course into cyclical in-place rotations. This is specific not only to African music but also to cultural music of other regions and differs from Western artistic music in that it does not "run" to fulfil an aesthetic intention but "stays" to provide the framework for recurrent routines of communal proceedings.

So, this record is different. And, if you are different too, this is the record for you.

November ihr selbst produziertes Debütalbum "Only Music Makes Me Cry Now" via 4AD. Zur Feier der Albumankündigung, präsentiert Becky and the Birds ihre neue Single "I made my baby cry". Der Song, ein emotional aufgeladenes Stück über Herzschmerz und Trennung, wird von einem Visualizer untermalt, den Gustafsson selbst kreiert hat. Die Visualisierung wurde von Gustafsson kreiert und stellt ihre Kreativität und eindrucksvolles Können im Studio unter Beweis. Über den Song sagt sie: "Ich habe den Song nach einer Trennung geschrieben. Für mich sind Trennungen das Schlimmste; mitzubekommen wie die andere Person innerlich stirbt und zu wissen, dass man es selbst ausgelöst hat." This soundtrack LP features songs that were all included in the 1986
coming-of-age film "Stand By Me", which was directed by Rob
Reiner. The film is based on Stephen King's novella The Body, with
the title deriving from the song of the same name by Ben E. King.
The film is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon, in 1959,
and stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry
O'Connell, as four boys who go on a hike to find the dead body of a
missing boy. The movie's success sparked a renewed interest in
Ben E. King's song "Stand by Me", with the song re-entering the US
Billboard Top 10 chart in 1986. The soundtrack is crammed with
great, early rock & roll hits. The movie may have been nostalgic, but
the music on this soundtrack still sounds alive, decades after it was
originally recorded.

Bernadine oder Berna-Dean Washington nahm Anfang der 60er Jahre sieben Singles für den Produzenten Dave Bartholomew in New Orleans auf. Als Protegé von Earl King wurde ihre letzte Single 1964 auf dem Label GNP Crescendo in Los Angeles veröffentlicht und ähnelt stilistisch ihren früheren Imperial- und Post-45ern. 'Don't Try To Tell Me' und 'Laughing On The Outside' wurden für GNP aufgenommen. Beide Tracks sind in einem gefühlvolleren Stil und erregen viel Aufmerksamkeit in der aktuellen Retro-R&B-Szene.

Miss Louistines Version von 'Con Me' war einer der besten Deep Soul-Funde der letzten Jahre. Die sanfte Chicago-Interpretation der Paragons von Sam Dees' Komposition aus dem Jahr 1975 wird seit langem bewundert, aber diese Southern-Soul-Bearbeitung des mittlerweile zum Klassiker gewordenen Songs ist atemberaubend. Um diesen geheimen Song-Klassiker wirklich in den Mittelpunkt zu rücken, haben wir Sam Dees' eigene Version als B-Seite hinzugefügt. Auch diese blieb unveröffentlicht, bis Kent 1998 auf die Bänder zugegriffen hat und sie nun endlich auf Single erscheint.

Buffalo Tom (Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn und Tom Maginnis) gründeten sich 1984 an der University of Massachusetts in Amherst - einer Brutstätte von Post-Punk-Gitarrenbands wie Dinosaur Jr. und Pixies. Die drei langjährigen Bandmitglieder erkennen die Leistung ihrer Langlebigkeit als kreative Einheit an. Anfänglich boten sie einen rauen, treibenden Sound, der Janovitz" imposanten Gitarrensound hervorhob, doch der frühe Ansatz von Buffalo Tom wich einem melodischeren, aber nicht weniger unverwechselbaren Stil. The Zeros is a pioneer punk rock band formed in 1976 in Chula Vista, California. Comparisons with The Ramones are often made when describing the energetic and fierce guitar driven sound of the group. The first singles recorded by the band instantly catapulted The Zeros into a top draw on the local scene and have become legendary. Unfortunately, the band never cut an album during these days. Their debut single was released in 1977 on Greg Shaw's very own Bomp! Records. It included 'Don't Push Me Around' and 'Wimp', two of the greatest punk rock songs of all time, both written by Javier Escovedo. It was followed by another single in 1978, "Wild Weekend" and a third one in 1980, "They Say That (Everything's Alright)". This release compiles all their early singles, some rare tracks (including the previously unreleased 'Left to Right') and songs taken from a 1978 live show. Munste is thrilled to reissue this essential '80s power pop gem as part of a series of releases celebrating Bomp! 50th anniversary.

'Let Me Go' by South African House legend Jullian Gomes, Mule music producer and Sapporo based sound designer Kuniyuki Takahashi, and Sio fresh after recently signing an album deal with Stay True Sounds/Defected, is elevated with fresh interpretations from UK super-producer & house legend Atjazz and St Louis born Yoruba label boss Osunlade, alongside the amazing original cut. House music from all corners of globe…you need this.

Arthur Russell first visited The Gallery in 1976 with his then boyfriend Louis, who introduced him to Nicky Siano. Arthur became a regular at the space and one night as Siano was playing “Turn the Beat Around”, which had just been released, Arthur waved at him from outside the booth and asked to come in. Nicky opened the door and Arthur suggested they make a record like this together. This ended up being a huge step for Siano as it marked the first ever production by a DJ making a record from scratch.

Arthur had written a song and had an arrangement for it so they assembled a band featuring Wilbur Bascomb who was one of Nicky’s favorite bassists, as well as, Allan Schwartzberg, David Byrne, Miriam Valle, Peter Gordon and Peter Zummo who were all friends of Arthur’s. Russell played the cello and piano – and that was the band. They recorded throughout 1977 and the “Kiss Me Again” 12 inch was finally released in 1978 on Sire Records selling more than 300,000 copies.

Body Meπa is the New York-based quartet of Greg Fox (drums), Sasha Frere-Jones (guitar), Melvin Gibbs (bass), and Grey McMurray (guitar). As luminaries in the intersecting traditions of improvised music, rock, jazz, fusion, and contemporary classical music, the four artists have each spent decades building diverse practices that extend beyond sound into multiple disciplines. Prayer in Dub, their second release on Hausu Mountain, follows the band’s 2020 album The Work Is Slow.

The album presents a band whose collective intuition as instrumentalists and live-in-the-room songwriters has deepened with each take that they put to tape. Prayer in Dub finds Body Meπa taking up new experiments with song structure and atmosphere, fanning out into a wide menu of both longer and more concise pieces that suggest deliberate shifts in energy and emotional resonance. The album presents a thrilling contrast between storms of precise rhythmic interplay and slowly expanding fields of multi-guitar and bass texture, alternately pushing the narrative toward explosive peaks of intensity and dipping into ambient expanses. Contemplative guitar lines, both bone dry and effected into total abstraction, ripple together over dub-indebted rhythm section grooves before shifting the dial towards beatific twang. Knotty distorted solos surge out of the fray over networks of arpeggios and drum fills.

On Prayer in Dub, Body Meπa pursues a strain of euphoria charged with elegiac grandeur and the looming potential to crumble at any moment under the psychic weight of confusion. Body Meπa is the New York-based quartet of Greg Fox (drums), Sasha Frere-Jones (guitar), Melvin Gibbs (bass), and Grey McMurray (guitar). As luminaries in the intersecting traditions of improvised music, rock, jazz, fusion, and contemporary classical music, the four artists have each spent decades building diverse practices that extend beyond sound into multiple disciplines. Prayer in Dub, their second release on Hausu Mountain, follows the band’s 2020 album The Work Is Slow.

The album presents a band whose collective intuition as instrumentalists and live-in-the-room songwriters has deepened with each take that they put to tape. Prayer in Dub finds Body Meπa taking up new experiments with song structure and atmosphere, fanning out into a wide menu of both longer and more concise pieces that suggest deliberate shifts in energy and emotional resonance. Recorded in Memphis, 1960-62 by Home of the Blues Record Company – sixteen tracks of vintage rocking Memphis blues that went unissued at the label’s demise and were lost in a warehouse, ultimately rediscovered and released by Acoustic Archives.

All now remastered to perfection by Oz Fritz and a team of A&R experts working with the original masters, including ones made by Sam Phillips Recording Studios in Memphis.

Featuring the superb arrangements of trumpeter Willie Mitchell, accompanying some of the best singers of the day, with guitar by Sammy Lawhorn, bass by Lewi Steinberg and drums by AI Jackson Jr. Recorded in glorious mono by Scotty Moore at Sam Phillips Recording Service.

Each artist bio had been thoroughly researched under the guidance of Acoustic Archives producer Marc Ryan with the assistance of Dr. Dave Evans, head musicologist at Memphis State U. The story provided in the 12-page booklet includes how these cuts eventually surfaced from the early 1960s and features the photos and commentary on the recording artists, with how the original owners of the Home of The Blues Record Shop, once at 107 Beale Street, worked at the recordings.

Adam Beyer shares his first collaboration with Brazilian superstar Vintage Culture, ‘Lift Me Up’ feat. Kyozo.The track has been brewing ever since the two artists crossed paths while touring and discussions soon turned to a potential collaboration. Passing ideas back and forward, ‘Lift Me Up’ took shape, before Kyozo’s signature vocals were added, with the British vocalist on their radar after link ups with Prof & Fitch, Aiken and Made by Pete. The final work is a pristine slice of dance music built for the summer festival season and reinforces Beyer’s continuing expansion and maturation of his sound palette, following the runaway success of his remix of Sharam’s PATT (Party All The Time) with Green Velvet and Layton Giordani and recent EP on Drumcode ‘Ghost Kiss’.‘Lift Me Up’ has soldered the relationship between Beyer and Vintage Culture, with the Drumcode boss playing the Brazilian’s So Track Boaevent earlier this year, with an anticipated B2B coming before the end of 2024.

DJ, live-act and former mastering engineer, Wallis speaks for a generation searching for novelty and emotion in the electronic music realm.
Sharp engineering skills coupled with a unique approach to sound design allowed her to develop a trademark sound. Using an array of synthesisers, effects units, and experimental studio techniques, Wallis produces melancholic electronic music rapidly shifting between different patterns and atmospheres.
She tours as a DJ and Live Act around the world, having played large festivals such as DGTL or renowned clubs like Berghain, and will happily play at a large stage one day but at a small intimate sweaty basement the next.
In 2024, she started producing music for fashion shows and debuted that project by creating the music for the entire Natasha Zinko runway show at London Fashion Week February 2024.
The EP's opening track, "Hell is a Girl from Before (Rainy Summer Mix)," introduces a stirring blend of emotions. Starting with an emotional melody, accompanied by synths and a plucked instrument, it swiftly transitions into energetic segments driven by the drums. Vocals emerge, their words almost imperceptible, adding an intimate layer to the experience. The track maintains a steady pace, evoking the ambience of a rainy summer day. This creates a melancholic yet hopeful mood, transporting listeners through a journey of introspection.
As "Protect Me From My Friends" unfolds, it feels like being whisked away to a new dimension, greeted by otherworldly, robotic sounds. The introspective journey of the previous track mutates into raw emotions, driven forward by a relentless bassline. Clear vocals take the forefront, guiding the listener through the sonic landscape, only to be interrupted by the commanding presence of the bassline, which assumes the main character role.

In "Sleeping Pills Are Gone," an atmospheric and gloomy introduction is abruptly interrupted by an acid and hefty bassline that dynamically evolves throughout the track, plunging the listener into an eyes-open dream born of a sleepless night. The vocals echo the track's title, creating a haunting repetition. Wallis strategically grants brief breaks, constructing a powerful crescendo that heightens the experience. These are momentary escapes before immersing the listener once more into the hypnotic trance induced by the solid four-to-the-floor march.
Closing the EP with a striking finale, "Teenage Apocalypse" introduces a clunky melody that encapsulates the signature sound of the record. Characteristic vocals weave throughout, guiding the listener towards the track's crescendo. Driven by a flawless fusion of drums, the song transitions seamlessly into a powerful breakbeat moment, accompanied by yet another impeccable bassline. True to its title, it evokes the intensity of a day of judgment, leaving a lasting impact as the EP draws to a close.
This EP is a testament to Wallis's growth as a producer and her fantastic storytelling ability through sound.

These 28 compositions, written and recorded in 2021/22, were initially created for Moo's personal use, serving as a life soundtrack during many weeks and months spent away from home while touring with the band. Most of the tracks were recorded in hotel rooms and even backstage areas, fully embracing the lo-fi mindset and philsophy. Comparing to his previous works, this one holds a special significance and it's the most personal of them all.

What's Mellomaniac? The wordplay combines "melomania"—defined as an excessive and abnormal attraction to music—with the "mello" vibe that reflects both Moo Latte's personality and the nature of the music itself. The album leans toward a mellow sound, designed more for an intimate, individual listening experience where each spin of the record leads to new discoveries.

Why is this album different? Each of these pieces was created without any predetermined goal, which is why the tracklist is so eclectic—much like Moo Latte's palette of inspirations. These influences stretch back to when he was just four years old, singing in front of others for the first time or listening to his sister practice the violin. These early memories and instincts are blended with more deliberate musical choices, refined over two decades of music education. Each song is dedicated to a person, place, or situation that shaped him both as a musician and as an individual, reflecting the journey he has been on so far.

Twenty years ago, mclusky released their third album, The Difference Between Me and You Is That I"m Not On Fire via Too Pure. In the years since, their legend has only grown, proved by their recent sold-out tour dates. Will Dorey aka Skinshape is a former member of the band Palace, has played Glastonbury, BBC Maida Vale and Shepherds Bush Empire, to name a few. His ‘I Didn’t Know’ has streamed over 50 million times. Taking inspiration from childhood memories, Ethiopian rhythms, and even calls to prayer, Another Side Of Skinshape gained access to the most esoteric corners of Dorey’s mind. ‘Stornoway’ replicates the same lifeblood heard on albums Nostalgia, or Craterellus Tubaeformis. Speaking on the album, Dorey says “Some songs pay homage to the 90s whilst others the 60s and 70s. Yet you may not perceive all of these in the form that they are presented. In any case I hope that the album is enjoyable and will fit casually into the flow of your day.” Another Side Of Skinshape is due for release just before a run of UK and US live dates, which will be the first time the band has ever hit the open road
