In 1982, the elite, core musicians (MFSB / The Salsoul Orchestra) behind the soulful Sound of Philadelphia - Earl Young (drums), Ron Baker (bass), Norman Harris (guitar), Lenny Pakula (organ), Larry Washington (percussion), Vince Montana, Jr. (vibes) - and powerhouse vocalists Joe Freeman, David Simmons, Ron Tyson and Bobby Love convened at Philadelphia’s historic Virtue Studios to record some of the genre’s most iconic hits. This small, but amazing set of lush recordings, which were mixed at Alpha Studios - ensuring that every note and nuance was captured with the highest fidelity, recently caught the attention of the famed producer and remixer Eric Kupper. Kupper got his start working as a keyboardist and guitarist for such producer/remixers as David Morales, Arthur Baker, Frankie Knuckles, Peterauhofer, and Richie Jones, just to name a few. Since 1986, he has played on, remixed, and/or produced over 1400 records for artists spanning all contemporary musical genres. Presented here is Kupper stellar remix of “Back Stabbers” which features Freeman’s impassioned lead vocals. This release is not just a tribute to the past, but a vibrant continuation of the legacy

Mit all ihren Veröffentlichungen hat HAAi (bürgerlich Teneil Throssell) immer versucht, neue Grenzen in der elektronischen Musik zu erkunden, und auf dem neuen Album bohrt sie noch mal tiefer in diese Richtung. KinAhau returns to Crosstown Rebels with expansive new single ‘Under the Flowerpot’, featuring Luke Cusato. Backed by a cosmic, synth-driven remix from Perel, the release lands on the label. After debuting on the label with his remix of Airrica’s ‘Hi Speed Lover’ last year, surging wonderkid KinAhau steps forward with his first full solo release for Crosstown Rebels. ‘Under the Flowerpot’ captures a moment of raw honesty and transition for the young Mexican artist, revealing a more expansive, song-led direction in collaboration with UK vocalist Luke Cusato.

The single was born during a turbulent period, written in the wake of a panic attack shortly after relocating to Rome. That sense of fragility and release runs through the record, pairing Cusato’s stirring topline with KinAhau’s widescreen production to create a cut that blurs the lines between club energy and confessional songwriting. For the remix, Damian Lazarus welcomes Perel to Crosstown Rebels. A unique voice within the electronic landscape, crafting her own lane with a genre-blurring approach, her remix is chugging, synth-led, and infused with a signature retro-futurist touch, channeling cosmic energy and slow-burning tension for dancefloors that like things deep and driving.Now 22, KinAhau’s journey has already taken him from handing Solid Grooves founder Michael Bibi a USB disguised as a trash collector to playing at DC10, Fabric, Space Miami and Mayan Warrior. His breakthrough collaboration ‘Different Side’ with Bibi and Audio Bullys carried his name onto global stages, while his 2024 mixtape comprised of old demos, drafts and edits revealed a more confessional, unfiltered edge to his sound. Yet ‘Under the Flowerpot’ feels like a deeper statement, one rooted not in hype but in self-exploration.

Nu Groove spotlights the artists that made the legendary NYC label a firm favourite of crate diggers then and now with this special vinyl release of their vital tracks revisited by leading selectors of today. The label, born in 1988 by Frank and Karen Mendez as an outlet for the experimental works of the Burrell Brothers, quickly became a home for up-and-coming genre pioneers. Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 7 opens with the NiCe7 Edit of ‘Feel It’ by NYC favourites The Sound Vandals. More monikers of Rheji Burrell appear in the collection too, as the seminal ‘APT. 2B’ by N.Y. House’n Authority is reworked by Steve Bug, followed by Darius Syrossian’s edit of ‘C’Mon’ by Rheji’s Avant Garde moniker. Make A Dance’s edit of the Rhano Burrell classic ‘I’ve Fallen And I Can’t Get Up’, under his You Know Who! alias, closes out this vinyl collection of future record box staples.

‘BORN LIKE THIS.’ is MF DOOM’s last solo album. Featuring Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and seminal American poet and writer Charles Bukowski with beats from J Dilla, Madlib and ol’ Metal Fingers himself. “I’ve been a fan of Bukowski for a while. It was a friend of mine – damn, I forget the n*gga name – from Life Sucks Die, it’s a graffiti magazine but it’s real kinda edgy, out of Minneapolis. They did an interview with me and then me and Andrew Broder was friends ever since then. He said, ‘Your shit reminds me of this dude Bukowski, you gotta read his stuff.’ I was a little apprehensive at first, ‘cos I was like, ‘What kinda weird shit is this?’ Then he gave me a book, The Most Beautiful Woman In Town, and after that I just got into it. “So for this album, to celebrate all us writers, emcees, if you look at it, it’s a lot of words that we say, and we all write those words: if it was written down on a piece of paper it could be a short story or like a good book. So I saw where Andrew was coming from where he sees the similarities. In tribute to Bukowski I said let me get him as a guest appear ance…” DOOM as quoted in HHC. “Whatever caused DOOM to scale back his output and go off the grid, he’s only come back from it sharper, stronger, and more powerful than before.” Pitchfork “DOOM still has the sickest vocabulary, broadest frame of reference, and densest, most quotable rhymes in hip-hop… he has created an album of sublimely half-assed super-genius.” Onion AV Club

Kyntral is a co-founder of the so-far so-sophisticated Argentinian label Danza Nativa, and he serves up a deeply immersive trip here. 'Inner Depths' is liquid deep techno in the mould of Neel or Donato Dozzy. Percolating rhythms and dubby undercurrents subsume mind and body while deft little details place you underwater. 'Bloodstone' is a little more lumpy with a gentle smattering of percussion of drums that bump. 'Ancient Apparition' is a spacious sound with wispy pads disappearing to infinity, glassy tinkles and undulating drums all getting you into a meditative state. The Patrick Russell Phantom remix is more warped and dark to add a nice counterpoint.

A self-proclaimed fan of Hospital Records from the age of 14 - the first drum & bass CD she ever bought being 'Hospital Mix Vol. 1' - Here & Now marks a particularly paramount milestone for the Bournemouth-born beatmaker. Across 15 tracks, Here & Now captures the breadth of Flava D's musicality, offering a bass-charged, genre-spanning statement that's rooted in experience but tuned into the present moment. With a star-studded bank of collaborators, including MPH, Anais, Unglued, SOLAH and more, the album highlights Flava D's curatorial ear and the strength of her network across the scene.

After an initial European release in 1976 on the Isadora label Age Of Earth was re-issued on Virgin Records in Summer 1977 and fast became a beacon for electronic music and what was becoming known as ambient - Some cite its very title as helping introduce 'new age' music - This re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1977 Virgin Records release and is pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl.
Guitarist and synthesiser player Manuel Göttsching formed Ashra after disbanding Ash Ra Tempel, the outfit he had led since 1971. Moving away from the space rock of his previous group, Ashra was a far more electronics-based project. Recorded in Berlin, between March and June 1976, the four pieces on the album represent the very best of what became known as Kosmiche: dreamily repetitive, glancing to the stars while keeping feet firmly on the ground.

New Age Of Earth is a record full of contrasts: the throbbing, techno-predicting Sunrain opens the album; with its waves and crickets sound effects, Ocean Of Tenderness pulses gently like a space-age early Fleetwood Mac; Deep Distance brings elements of surf music into glacial electronica. At 21 minutes long, Nightdust occupies all of the album's second side, a ruminative, slowly unfolding piece that, after its crescendo, gives way to Göttsching's impressively celestial electric guitar solo.

Shining lights in London’s queer electronic underground, prolific duo FAFF make their debut on Phantasy with the ‘A Few Good Days’ EP, featuring three tracks reverberating the smudged euphoria of the capital’s rave scene, both past and present. Drawing equally on peak-time club catharsis and the emotive experimentation of golden-era IDM and electro, these recordings meld the pair’s diverse DJ sets and ambient live work, which has captivated festivals including Draimollen, Field Maneuvers, and Body Movements.

The title track, ‘A Few Good Days, ’ melds hypnotic percussion, snatches of vocal euphoria, and a stuttering break for instant post-rave afterglow. Its wandering but compelling arrangement subtly invokes and updates the pioneering aesthetic of One Dove, Sabres of Paradise, or even William Orbit. The tempo tilts skywards for ‘Tracy’s Night Out’, a peak-time display of FAFF’s studio prowess that fuses choral techno drama with a shamelessly bouncing bassline designed to tear up any respectable sound system. Emerging from the sweat and strobes for a wide-eyed stroll home, ‘Tracy’s Daydream’ wishes away the EP with delicate, textural delight, floating gently on pure analogue reverie.

Mélange is a new community and online platform for young emerging artists based between Europe and Australasia.

The first of the label’s VA compilation album, just released,spans corners of electronic and world music and weavesbetween classical/ambient sounds and UKG, Jungle & Disco. It’s a commitment to multi-genre discographies and the need for more established career paths for young, gifted artists.

With early support on the vinyl from Four Tet and Haai, our goal is to help share and further establish European and Oceanic sounds with music lovers everywhere.

Our second vinyl release comes from within the house. Juan Ferreyra, co-founder of Easy Latino Records, drops his debut EP on the label: I didn’t buy my Dr Märtens.

True to his style, Juan doesn’t take production or himself too seriously — and that playfulness shines through these four tracks. London based label Natural Selection present their forthcoming release in the form of a 4-track 12" EP, courtesy of Swarm Intelligence, entitled "Radiance". Mastered by Alain Paul and cut by Simon at The Exchange Vinyl. Record Sleeve and labels printed to premium specification, featuring artwork by Kaan Ulgener.

Born in Dublin and now firmly based in Berlin, Simon Hayes aka Swarm Intelligence has cemented his place in the Techno underground with critically acclaimed LPs and EPs on labels such as 47, Instruments of Discipline and Voitax. He returns to Natural Selection, after releasing his track "Generative" on the label's latest VA release; "Natural Selection: Selected Works Vol. 1" in 2024. Featuring amongst an extensive list of heavyweight label affiliates such as SHXCXCHCXSH, Charlton, ASEC, Nørbak, MAEDON, Annie Hall & more. After further connections with the label via live performances at their regular label nights at FOLD London, it was inevitable that Simon would be invited to release a solo EP on their imprint.

His distinctive sound comes from over a decade of releases spanning multiple genres and tempos and oscillates between rhythmic noise, tense atmospherics, uncompromising levels of distortion, and stark, astute beats. This resolutely non-conformist approach to his productions has earned him a reputation as a true trailblazer in the realm of Techno and has led him to perform at some of the world's finest institutions including Berghain, Tresor and Basement NY.

For "Radiance", Swarm intelligence delves further into the sonic unknown, presenting a bold evolution in his uncompromising vision of Techno. Deep, fragmented textures form the backdrop for thunderous, distorted rhythms and IDM-laden drums and percussion, fused with meticulously designed cinematic soundscapes and powerful low-end muscle. Fierce, unrelenting, and deeply conceptual, all rules and boundaries are smashed to pieces and all tracks are equally suitable for blasting through the world's biggest club systems and rigs as they are for home listening.

Following the release of Haunted House Party, Bradley Thomas Turner was contacted by the Cryptozoological Society of New York City to create music for their museum’s holiday exhibitions. As enigmatic as they are controversial, the secretive society gave the composer free rein to create music that celebrated their profane (and, according to their critics, pseudoscientific) explorations of the darker side of yuletide folklore. The endeavour was denounced by religious groups, the scientific community and even parts of the cryptozoological community as “blasphemous,” “irresponsible”, and “a dangerous topic to make light of” respectively. Not much is known about the pandemonium that broke out on the night of the opening reception, but one journalist (who has been granted anonymity by request) infiltrated the event and captured the recordings that follow. Death cult ritual? Mishandling of cursed artifacts? Elaborate practical joke? Publicity stunt? No one can (or will) say for sure as no person in attendance has been willing to speak on record. Therefore, we present these recordings so the general public can decide for themselves.

More Rice’s DOTT follows up with a swampy excursion propelled by a potent kick and nimble submarine tones. Drums are neatly stacked in polyrhythms as an infectious swing unfolds, one that’s decorated with ghostly synths and a generous dose of psychedelic synthesis.

Sarayu – also of More Rice fame, closes things up with ‘Fuijan Groove’, a brilliantly lean cut that lets the subs do the talking. Sharp tonal blobs flesh out a simple but highly effective march as spectral pads expand in plumes of smoke until the conclusion of a rich and varied record that unites two kindred labels perfectly.’

The Mental Groove Classic series returns with a treasure trove of rare and hard to find tracks plucked from the personal collection of label founder Olivier Ducret, a pivotal figure in Switzerland's acid house and rave-era party scene.



The compilation is inspired by a moment in time when musical boundaries were being redrawn in a wave of carefree optimism and the freedom that fueled new rave scenes across Europe and beyond.

The Mental Groove Classics series returns with a treasure trove of rare and hard-to-find tracks plucked from the personal collection of label founder Olivier Ducret, a pivotal figure in Switzerland's acid house and rave-era party scene.



On Volumes Two and Three of the series released last year, Olivier Ducret (founder of Mental Groove and Musique Pour La Danse, half of WRWTFWW) takes us back to the turn of the '90s. It was a time when he was promoting parties in fields, squats, forests, warehouses and former factoriesin and around Geneva, all while working behind the counter of a record shop called Mental Groove. While the continuing journey of his duo band, Peaking Lights, with his wife Indra, earns plaudits and fans alike, his early years as a one-man lysergic music polymath that saw his youth in punk and hardcore bands, expanded during a mid-90s burst of “living in San Francisco” creative expansion, devouring music, genres, and influences for life.

Started as a sub-project to Peaking Lights and his personal dub excursions, Exotic Gardens pollinates a rich tapestry. Recording through the pandemic in their then home in Amsterdam, before being archived, assembled, and completed following the move back ‘home’ to the West Coast, California.

Re-embracing that love of his inner goth, the analogue warmth is all there, now featuring Coyes’ dub-languidity of stripped drum machines, widescreen bass, haunting guitar lines and an almost idle voice to peddle true, raw songs.

Combined, the pop layer of hooks and tight grooves instantly catch you. Opener and EP title, Drugs & TV is the perfect anthem for the Exotic Gardens sound, before the “dubwave” of Last Of The Light and Tonite shimmer that yearning melancholy of youth.

In the almost 10 minute dub house opus Organize Your Movement an appreciation and understanding of the psychoactive properties of the Roland 303 and 909, they also hark to a love of Industrial / Noise bands, a lineage from the death pulse of his cult project Rahdunes through to Sound Design and Sound System culture to the pop-dub psychedelics with Indra, now melded here to include a dark assault, whispering invocations and pulsing pads.

To close, Turn It On is a roaming multi-genre evocation, an exotic end from this constant troubadour, cassette junkie, record dealer, sound system builder, always looking to get back on the road, to live to roam.

26th May 1980. We were kids, or we were not even born yet. This day changed the thinking and the future of an entire nation. That day one man carried the weight of history and all the hope of a whole country, to infinity and back.

Bertalan Farkas was the first Hungarian to make a successful landing aboard SOYUZ-36 as part of the Interkosmos program led by the Soviet Union. Together with his partner Valery Kubasov, on 26th May 1980 he launched into outer space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. With this space travel Hungary became the seventh nation to enter outer space.

In addition to his professional knowledge and merits, an entire country celebrated him for his humanity and loyalty to his people. The national hero of the 80's inspired generations. As children we wanted to be astronauts, and as adults we look up to the stars and the endless sky with the same childlike enthusiasm.

Paradise Lost’s sixth studio album (1997), which charted well across Europe, marked something of a change of direction for the West Yorkshire group: a transition from gothic metal to a more electronic approach, epitomised by the lead single ‘Say Just Words’, which remains a fan favourite and one of their biggest streaming tracks. This re-tooled aesthetic proved slightly controversial at the time but by the time of its acclaimed 20th anniversary reissue (mirrored here), for which it was remastered by Jaime Gomez Arellano, the general consensus was that the riffs, lyrics, and compositions on One Second are all vintage Paradise Lost. As noted by Decibel magazine, “There is a natural flow on display throughout the 12 songs that is akin to watching a favourite actor take on a somewhat different role than he or she is known for— and killing the performance.”

Spiritual World's first archival 12" vinyl release from the UK’s free festival dub pioneers.

The Ullulators, an experimental dub and world music ensemble from Bath, UK, have long been associated with the UK’s free festival movement, tracing their creative lineage back to the mid-1980s. For the first time ever, two pivotal tracks from their early cassette-only discography—“Simply Conscious Dub” and “Eternal
Now”—are being issued on 12” vinyl, marking the first archival release on Spiritual World.

The A-side, “Simply Conscious Dub”, originally featured on the 1986 cassette Beyond the Gates of Ull, exemplifies the band’s signature fusion of weighty dub rhythms with expansive and euphoric electronics.
In contrast, the B-side, “Eternal Now”, drawn from the 1985 cassette Share a Calm with the Ullulators, ventures into more introspective sonic territory. Built on minimalist structures and ambient textures, it evokes the kosmische tradition and aligns with the spatial sensibilities of Manuel Göttsching’s E2-E4.

Together, these tracks not only showcase the group’s wide stylistic range but also underscore their forward-thinking approach to genre hybridity. This release stands as a unique document of a formative era in the
evolution of UK underground, dub, and ambient music.

Gwenan Spearing, known for her perceptive, groove-oriented DJ sets, and more recently as a live performer working with hardware improvisation, launches a new imprint, Phase Space, with Degrees of Freedom, a debut album diving deep into generative electronics, modular systems, and real-time response. Composed and recorded in 2019-2020, the album treats constraint as creative fuel, floating between ambient,
sonic sculpture, and improvisation, mapping Gwenan’s path from rural Wales to Berlin’s outer zones of experimental sound.
Sync opens with a theme on a slow triangle wave, expanding the space as it evolves. Some Pluck explores generative counterpoint using LFOs and Euclidean rhythms. Generator I unfolds in an oscillating time where keyboard and bass circuits cross-modulate. Sleep Pressure is a lullaby for grown-ups, capturing that eerie threshold before sleep, followed by Loper, where time flows fluid and unstable. The closer, Generator II, holds machine heartbeats in delicate equilibrium before unraveling into graceful decay, a soft farewell. (That’s the Universe waving.) Degrees of Freedom is algorithmic music with a pulse: visceral, hand-wired, and built for deep listening.

The EP opens with Bajo Tierra – Mis Juguetes, a ten-minute drift of slow-burning minimalism where Villalobos’ elastic modular textures and patient rhythmic detail entwine with Miranda’s hypnotic vocal, processed and stretched into new shapes and forms — a continuation of the deep, organic dialogues the pair first explored on De Cada Uno in 2022. On the flip, Siddhartha – Poema 4 slides into minimal electro and broken beat territory, sparse yet restless. An elusive cult gem resurfaces through Glossy Mistakes. Originally released in 1986, L'Empire Des Sons is an otherworldly blend of synth pop, folk experimentation, and cinematic percussive layers-dreamlike, poetic, and wildly ahead of its time. L'Empire Des Sons was a fleeting yet powerful transmission from the fringes of the French underground-an album that blurred genre lines and evaded easy classification. Fusing experimental folk, lo-fi synth pop, and avant-garde textures, the record exists in its own sonic universe: poetic, layered, and fiercely independent. Formed in Saint-Étienne by percussionist and composer Dominique Lentin (Dagon, Fille Qui Mousse) and first-time vocalist Bipé Redon, L'Empire Des Sons emerged from the vibrant DIY spirit of the early 1980s. Their paths crossed during the interdisciplinary project L'Opéra Quotidien, and what followed was an intuitive, deeply collaborative process. "I would bring in lyrics and my voice," Bipé recalled, "and Dominique would shape the music around the atmosphere or rhythm suggested by the words." Ethnic percussion, marimbas, xylophones, and synthesizers dance around Bipé's surreal, fragmented lyrics-little sonic postcards from imagined worlds. Despite their inventiveness, L'Empire Des Sons remained a well-kept secret-circulating only in select avant-garde circles and eventually becoming an extremely sought-after collector's item. Now, thanks to Glossy Mistakes, this lost artifact returns to the world with new life: remastered from the original tapes, pressed on vinyl for the first time with extended liner notes. L'Empire Des Sons was never meant to be boxed in. Like the quote from Brian Eno that opens their liner notes-"For the world to be interesting, you have to be manipulating it all the time"-their music resists stasis. It evolves, shifts, surprises. It began with a cassette tape entitled 'Pleased To Meet You' gifted to us at Sessa's Fasching, Stockholm show by Yann Dardenne, the multi-tasking tour manager/sound engineer/producer/merch stall worker and co-owner of Seloki Records. On first listen, the selection of underground Brazilian artists from the Seloki's roster was superb, however, one song stopped us in our tracks. The hauntingly captivating ' GOSTO MEIO DOCE' by Nina Maia and Francisca Barreto, gave us a taste of Nina's ethereal, addictive voice and we knew we needed to hear more. Born in Minas Gerais but now based in Sao Paulo, the 22-year-old has already packed a lot into a relatively short space of time. The singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer, has already collaborated on the soundtracks for six Brazilian feature films, including a track with the vocalists Maria Gadu, Iza, and Liniker. But things enter a new exciting era with this, her remarkable debut album entitled 'INTEIRA', which translates to English as 'whole'.

As much inspired by Billie Eilish and Rosalia, as Milton Nascimento and Toninho Horta and not sounding like other records coming out of Brazil, 'INTEIRA' is unique. Though rich in its Brazilian heritage, inspired by samba cancao, MPB, and the Clube da Esquina movement, it also channels influence from bands such as Portishead and Massive Attack, mixed with jazz, contemporary leftfield and electronic pop artists. Musically, it is not easily pigeonholed, with beautiful, well-crafted songs, sophisticated arrangements, eloquent vocals and intimate lyrics. Each track reflects different moments and stories from Nina's youth but with dialogues, feelings, and questions that span generations and resonate with all. This ambitious debut album is Nina's vision and sound, expressing herself without constraints and making music with her friends. Featuring a lineup of Thalin (drums), Valentim Frateschi (bass), Francisca Barreto (cello and vocals), Thales Hashiguti (viola and violin), Yann Dardenne (acoustic guitar and co-producer) and Nina on piano, Rhodes, guitar and production. The album led to a nomination in Paulista Association of Art Critics (APCA) award's 'Breakthrough Artist' category, who also listed 'INTEIRA' as one of the 50 best albums of 2024.

Eclectic and genre-fluid, Whoosh is a masterful showcase of the expansive musical sensibilities of Vik Srinivasan—known as Vikmatic—and the finely tuned ear of co-producer and TSoNYC label head Danilo Braca. Drawing from a rich tapestry of sonic influences, the EP unfolds with effortless depth and elegance. Its title track opens with wistful spaciousness, unhurried in its approach, as layers of ambient texture float into view. Since 2019, Amsterdam-based curator Pieter Jansen has used his yeyeh label as a vehicle for carefully considered (and sometimes unlikely) ‘first time’ collaborations between different experimental and avant-garde artists including Eversines, Carolina Eyck, Greetje Bijma and Oceanic. After pairing saxophonist/composer/producer Jerzy Maczyński with fellow Polish experimentalist Waclaw Zimpel on 2021 collaborative release Sariani (which was credited to Jerry&ThePelicanSystem in a nod to the former’s earlier album for Warner Music’s Polish Free Jazz series), yeyeh founder Pieter Jansen had an idea. That simple idea – getting Maczyński in the studio with Chicagoan DJ/producer Hieroglyphic Being – was the genesis of this record, the debut album by Universal Harmonies & Frequencies. In June 2022, Hieroglyphic Being flew to Amsterdam to spend five days improvising with Maczyński in a rented studio beneath Volkshotel, under the watchful eye of recording and mix engineer Rein De Sauvage Nolting, better known in electronic music circles for his work as RDS. During those sessions, 26 long, improvised compositions were recorded, with Maczyński contributing saxophones and electronic tools, and Hieroglyphic Being laying down synthesizer parts and vocals. These sessions were captured on film by VLF (Katarzyna Debska), who later created the artwork and visual language for this record release. Some days after the recording sessions, Sauvage Nolting – who had delivered artistic input during the improvisations – sat down with Jansen to select 13 pieces to put forward for the album and a loose conceptual framework. It was then that the hard work began. While a decision was taken to present some improvisations in full, most of what you will hear on Tune IN, as the album is titled, is based on fragments of improvisation. The resultant pieces were reconfigured, re-worked and re-produced by Maczyński and Sauvage Nolting over many months, and in discussion with Hieroglyphic Being. Maczyński added more layers of instrumentation, creating a “whole digital band of reed instruments” – a method he previously utilized on Sariani. What you hear when you play the record defies categorization. It is rooted in a specific moment in time and the spontaneity of musical improvisation – both Maczyński and Hieroglyphic Being are experienced improvisers, albeit with different musical instruments and tools – but also the product of extensive post-production and reflective re-shaping. It is not free-jazz, ambient, electronica, rhythmic cubism (as Hieroglyphic Being’s distinctive sound has previously been called), or avant-garde experimentalism, but something that combines all these musical approaches and more, with a sprinkling of far-sighted futurism mixed in. It is a magical and mystical meeting of musical minds that will pass the test of time in decades to come.

Barranquilla born multi-instrumentalist Pernett is undoubtedly a true pioneer in fusing Colombian folklore with electronic elements. How dare he incorporate synthesizers into traditional music? What would be called this avant-garde genre where gaitas, traditional drums and keyboards come together? To this date, Pernett has released 6 albums, worked with an impressive number of prestigious artists such as Phil Manzanera, Calle 13, Novalima, or Quantic, and is still influencing whole generations of forward-thinking musicians.

A 7-minutes version, exclusive to this 10″, has been especially taken out from the masters vault, and edited by Ben Matik: the original short version takes a unexpected turn to a completely freaked-out “Puya” rhythm, where gaitas and synths perfectly merge together.

B-side “El Pajarito - Ben Matik Instrumental Edit” is a deep downtempo anthem, a perfect fusion of powerful electronic beats, 808 bass, analog synths and gaitas. special attention should be paid to the enchanting voice of Diana Pereira on this one.

Limited 7" Edition

Ira James' Vessel Recordings keeps it real with another deep house record from an array of the genre's finest. The Sometimes Dream Sampler is a class affair with an A-side taken up by a superb coming together of Jason Hodges, Eddie Leader and Hector Moralez for the weight, tasty dub version of 'No Oatmilk,' then Wally Callerio brings some fresh rhythms with his synth-infused 'Cause You Know'. Jordan Strong's 'Turn The Tide' lands with a nice bit of hip-swinging funk over rolling bass and Christopher Mohn's 'Move Your Body' rocks back and forth on its heels to hypnotic effect. PDMV005 comes from the one and only Alexis Cabrera, blending jazz, minimal house, retro textures, rolling basslines and modular magic. Kora Koumakan, or Word of the Kora, is a boundary-pushing Afro-Manding group from Conakry, Guinea. Led by master kora player and composer Sekouna Conte, Kora Koumakan channels Guinea's rich musical heritage into modern compositions, creating a sound that is both deeply rooted and forward-looking. Inspired by Guinea's iconic Ballets Africains and legendary artists like Bembeya Jazz National and Mory Kante, the band masterfully blends contemporary instrumentation with traditional West African instruments - handmade by the band themselves - including the kora, djembe, and balafon. Since 2018, they have been touring extensively across West Africa, honing their sound and earning a nomination for Best Band at the 2025 Guinea Music Awards.

This inaugural limited edition vinyl release on Jambulance Movement Records features two standout remixes by London's Tigerbalm and Ben Gomori, which transform the band's original Afro grooves into hypnotic house tracks already making waves on dancefloors worldwide. Tigerbalm's remix expertly layers the original percussion around a driving 4/4 beat, with the ethereal kora and powerful vocals weaving through the rhythm to create compelling dancefloor energy. Ben Gomori's remix takes a more atmospheric route, anchored by a groovy bassline loop with layered guitar and keyboard melodies that add depth and movement, gradually building into immersive moments of tension and release. The record also includes instrumental versions of these remixes, with the band's EP of original tracks set to drop in early 2026.

Jambulance Movement Records is a social enterprise record label and recording studio based in Guinea. Their mission is to empower the next generation of emerging African artists by providing free professional recording services. Operating a solar-powered mobile studio and a static studio in Conakry, the label discovers new talent through casting events across the country. Selected artists receive comprehensive training and mentorship, with the overall aim to foster sustainable careers for young African artists.

'The day I found my original studio masters and got my rights back was the starting point, and then I realised it's 25 years on and it's time to recode, remaster and reevaluate because I've never looked back properly. I've always been like a bat out of hell, never quite thinking I'm good enough or great at what I do, but it's important to celebrate, because there's nota lot of people still here, still doing it after this length of time'.

With new masters provided by Simon at the renowned London mastering house The Exchange London, a direct link to the original mastering done by the late-Nilz (Nilesh Patel) from The Exchange, Mr. G's 'OG Retrospective' marks a reflective period in McBean's life.

'All I've ever done is write and move forward, but more and more, I get the new generation sending me videos of my old tracks and sometimes I don't even recognise them, so finally I thought, 'ok, you're comfortable in your own skin, let's really see how you sounded at the beginning, how you've changed, how have the techniques changed'?

It was quite raw going back over these; some of the memories are riddled with pain and angst - friends dying, where I was in my life at the time, having a heart attack and so on. Having a sound, too, can be a cross to bear. You're only ever competing with yourself, your only game is being better than your last game, so if you dwell on the past too much you can't move forward. Getting to the point where I can look back and feel happy, feels good.

Invariably, what will come from this is 'more', because, with my own label I have endless possibilities and will continue telling my story.'

At the end of the project’s 20th anniversary celebrations, ROME tolls in the next era of the band with a fresh and visionary album: ‘The Tower’.  ROME’s new and ever more mature sound is informed by a radically minimalist folk approach, with nonetheless charmingly lush arrangements. ‘The Tower’ is an introspective and enigmatic work at whose centre stands nothing less than ROME’s raison d’etre: The Great Work and the sacrifices both necessary and essential on the demanding path to light. As an unreachable bulwark against the general decline of every value in life, the tower would have been erected long ago to defend the coast.

It would have been raised on a rocky platform resting on the sea floor. It would have been joined to the continent by a thin tongue of sand. It would have offered a heroic, magical point of view. A place for our claim to know and point out vaster horizons. It would have stood firm on the ramparts. This isolated tower would not have been just a refuge for more or less mystic escape, but also a post of resistance and combat.

Released in 1972 as the follow-up to the previous year's classic CTI album with Stanley Turrentine, Now is Astrud Gilberto's tenth studio album and her only recording on Perception, and wow does she make the most of the musicians available to her on this recording. Produced by Astrud herself and with all songs arranged by fellow Brazilian Eumar Deodato, the all-star line-up on Now includes Deodato on acoustic guitar, more Brazilian flavours from Airto Moreira on percussion, label vice-President and production genius Patrick Adams on Bass duties (along with Bob Cranshaw and Ron Carter), Dizzy Gillespie Quintet and Jazzberry Patch band member Mike Longo on keyboards and the mighty Billy Cobham on drums.

This album is a fiercely political and genre-defying album that blends funk, jazz, soul, and rock with sharp social commentary. McDaniels channels the turbulence of early-’70s America into surreal, poetic lyrics that critique racism, war, capitalism, and hypocrisy. The record’s raw grooves, off-kilter rhythms, and biting wit make it both musically adventurous and lyrically fearless — a cult classic that prefigured conscious soul and hip-hop’s political edge.

By the time Jackie Mittoo released this outstanding album (his 4th), he had already gained a big reputation in the early days of Reggae, Ska and Rocksteady for his contributions to the Studio One catalog and his work with the Skatalites. With his beloved Hammond organ, endless talent and a bag on influences that included Jamaican sounds, Soul and Funk, Mittoo created a cool, moving, warm and groovy sound that would explode in his amazing dance songs and has gained cult status among followers of Jamaican Music, Soul and Funk lovers. A great collection of reggae-soul instrumentals by one of the most talented figures of the genre.

Next up in our Cuban Classics series, one of the jewels of record label Areito’s extensive and sought-after catalogue. Ricardo Eddy Martinez’s Expreso Ritmico from 1978 is a prized album fusing funk, disco, and orchestrated influences with Afro-Cuban percussion, Latin breaks, and lush vocal harmonies.

Whilst maintaining its distinctive Cuban identity, Expreso Ritmico is one of the more American / Western-influenced Cuban titles of the time drawing inspiration from jazz funk, disco, and library music. The album was directed, written, and orchestrated by keyboardist and drummer Ricardo Eddy Martinez, who was also the mastermind behind the orchestration of the Los Reyes 73 album (that was recently reissued by Mr Bongo). Martinez would later go on to work with international musicians and singers such as Gloria Estefan, José Feliciano, Chick Corea, and many more, whilst also working as a sound engineer in the US.

Produced by Adolfo Pichardo, who worked on much of Areito’s output, Expreso Ritmico is packed with gold. The opening title track carries a loose, breezy Latin-disco-funk vibe that breaks into a brilliant Afro-Cuban workout. ‘Que La Tristeza Se Fue’ was expertly sampled and looped by Jazzanova on their 2008 song ‘Look What You Are Doing To Me, featuring Phonte from the hip hop group Little Brother. Elsewhere, ‘Tambo Iya’ has an Afro-funk, Soul Makossa-esque groove, while tracks such as ‘Te Quedas’, ‘Mi Conga Es La Que Es’ and ‘La 132’ run with a heavy pulsating Latin-funk sound. Head to the sultry psych funk of ‘Este Tumbao’ for a spacey journey that blends and morphs through genres.

How enduring is the signature song from Harry Chapin’s Verities & Balderdash? So timeless that it became the subject of a 2025 documentary in which artists from multiple generations weigh in on its impact on their lives and craft. “Cat’s in the Cradle” doubtlessly remains the main event on the singer-songwriter’s 1974 album. The legendary opening track also serves as a guidepost for the bold personal and social material that follows — as well as the gorgeous folk-rock arrangements that underpin the New York native’s most commercially successful work.

Sourced from the original master tapes, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing, housed in a Stoughton jacket complete with a four-page insert, and strictly limited to 3,000 numbered copies, Mobile Fidelity’s 180g 33RPM LP of Verities & Balderdash presents Chapin’s fourth full-length in audiophile quality for the first time on vinyl. Captured during a golden era for sonics and production, the Top 5 effort features remarkable tonal balance, instrumental separation, and organic naturalism. Those valued aspects come into supreme focus on this reissue, which plays with dead-quiet surfaces and a low noise floor.

The newfound clarity, openness, and imaging underscore the lasting appeal of Chapin’s tender deliveries, soulful timbre, and careful phrasing. Every word comes across with incredible realism, while his underrated guitar playing occupies its own distinctive space. Also notable: The extension of the tasteful string accents; airiness of the backing vocals; depth and shape of the spare bass lines; and width and depth of the soundstaging. When on “Six String Orchestra” Chapin calls out names of instruments, they appear like magic, the band performing feet from you. Chapin has never sounded so lifelike on record.

Certified double platinum, Verities & Balderdash resonated with the times and public. “Cat’s in the Cradle” reached No. 1 on the chart on its way to being inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The romantic ballad “I Wanna Learn a Love Song” flirted with the Top 40 and wrapped listeners in the equivalent of a cozy blanket. The record’s other single, the mini-epic “What Made America Famous?,” helped establish Chapin as one of the country’s most incisive and insightful commentators.

Verities & Balderdash teems with situational devices and topical matters. Chapin observes everything from the polarization of the nation to changes in moral standards and cultural priorities. He investigates pressing themes without ever turning preachy or elevating himself above the matters at hand. On “Halfway to Heaven,” whose coda races to the finish and ranks as the most urgent moment on the record, Chapin inhabits the mind of his frustrated protagonist akin to an eagle-eyed novelist.

Conveying emotions that range from melancholic to carefree, Chapin is as much of a singer as a storyteller. He assumes the voice of multiple characters within a single narrative. During the quirky “30,000 Pounds of Bananas,” a tale based on a delivery-truck accident in 1965, Chapin alters his delivery, pronunciation, and diction to become an old man reflecting on the mishap and mess. The tempo, too, adjusts to match the speed of the vehicle Chapin describes.

Adorned with timely laugh tracks to reinforce the bittersweet humor, the stripped-down “Six String Orchestra” takes everything up another notch, with Chapin intentionally missing guitar notes or playing a broken passage to illustrate the failures of the hopeful protagonist who doesn’t have what’s required to make it as an artist.

Chapin, of course, did not have any such problem. The lynchpin of a career cut short by a tragic traffic incident, Verities & Balderdash is Exhibit A of the savvy craft, feeling, and perspective he lent to American music.

Unlike the main Magic Wand label, the imprint's offshoot 'Special Editions' series is a little more fluid about what it releases, with some EPs sporting original productions - many of which are admittedly sample-heavy - as well as re-edits. That's the case for this second missive from Matsoaka (real name Matt Lundgren). So, while the EP begins with a genuinely gorgeous and Balearic original cut (the dreamy and slow-motion folk-rock of 'Butterflies', featuring the emotive and harmonic vocals of Butterflies), much of the rest falls into the "Balearic re-arrangement" category. In this camp you'll find the immersive, trip-hop style dreaminess of 'Faith', the mid-80s Yellow Magic Orchestra-style Fairlight-sporting electro of 'Gin Yuzu', and the dollar bin brilliance of 'Sheriff' (a take on a Japanese city-pop cover of a reggae favourite).

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's UltraDisc One-Step (UD1S) technique bypasses generational losses inherent to the traditional three-step plating process by removing two steps: the production of father and mother plates, which are created to yield numerous stampers from each lacquer that is cut. For UD1S plating, stampers (also called "converts") are made directly from the lacquers. Since each lacquer yields only one stamper, multiple lacquers need to be cut. Hailing from the much fabled Adriatic coastal party town of Rimini in Italy, Davide has been shaping and sculpting Electronic sounds for well over 3 decades now. Having first started releasing music under his ‘Wet Basement’ alias back in 2015, his sonic palette traverses IDM, Techno, Deep House, Acid and Ambient soundscapes.

Having spent decades honing his practice, he has both self-released his music and worked with the long standing Odrex Music in Berlin. And there’s something deeply irresistible about his output that screams class and quiet dedication. In his own words, in around 2005 he got into the world of Eurorack and a few years later, Serge Modular. Since then, he’s been totally hooked...

In more recent times, Davide has recorded and released 2 digital LPs worth of material for ‘Detroit Underground’ under his own name, so it seems fitting that We’re Going Deep are now hosting a debut 12” cut – offering up 4 cuts of trademark sumptuousness. Bringing together the best of influences that touch on the likes of Aril Brikha, David Alvarado, Deepchord, Convextion and Basic Channel, he weaves together their respective magic to a new whole point of inflection that is both of this world and the other. All tinged with a warmth and smile that could only originate in Mediterranean climes.

The aptly named ‘A-1’ kick starts the EP in fine fashion as shimmering chords cut through rays of floatingly filtered synthesis, all beautifully dubbed out to a steady rolling kick and neatly shuffled high-hats, with precision bass notes interjecting to add an additional layer of funk. With bliss set to maximum, this is nothing short of genius. Followed by ‘Bilateral’, Davide offers a touch more space and lets the bottom end lead, whilst neatly filtered chords flicker to and fro - seeping their way into your consciousness as the tight drum work brings you to groove mode.

On the reverse, ‘Drive’ burrows further into emotive depths as Davide bathes you in layers of dub and twinkling melodics, all passed through a hazy film of goodness. Rounding off the EP with the deft touch of Distanze Logaritmiche – a soft roller that steeps you in undulating chords and cavernous effects. This is high class music that deserves patience and your attention to reap the ultimate rewards from a true master of his craft.

Hungarian power comes through the roof as it can be said and it comes from none other than by Norbert Thunder. The artist that always has known and will know the sence of style whether it’s clothing or the sound of the drums, saw cutting riffs of synths or readiness to penetrate the soul with genuine love and respect for the electronic groove.

On this disc the remix duties are taken by none other than Millimetric, the legendary artist that has been putting people through frequencies for many years and that has been generating feelings for a while. Having Norbert over and sharing many words together have made the process genuine and it is a truly wonderful time that the disc has been shaped in a visually and muscially rich matter that it did.
