Anfang 2020 hatte Squarepusher gerade sein letztes Album 'Be Up A Hello' mit großem Erfolg veröffentlicht und bereitete sich auf eine weltweite Tour mit einigen seiner bisher größten Shows vor. Dann kam die Pandemie und alles war vorbei ... Ohne Ablenkung begab sich der Künstler direkt in sein Studio, um mit neuen Aufnahmen zu beginnen. Er sagt: 'Ohne die üblichen Unterbrechungen verlief die Zeit anders.' Es ist eine Episode, die er Dostrotime nennt. Daher ist Dostrotime ein Versuch, die Besonderheit der durch den Lockdown katalysierten Musik als Teil der Feier des Endes des Lockdowns einzufangen.

Anyone who takes their old-skool hip-hop seriously knows Main Source were the real deal, and their 1991 album Breaking Atoms remains one of the greatest albums in the genre. While there was an eventual follow-up in 1994, hip-hop folklore has often spoken of their shelved 1992 LP The Science.

Hellhammer were a metal band from Switzerland that are credited as being pioneers of extreme metal and the black metal genre, along with Venom and Bathory in the early 1980’s.

Formed by Tom G Warrior and Martin Eric Ain (who went on to form Celtic Frost) ‘Apocalyptic Raids’ was originally released in 1984 and is a cult classic that is revered as a hugely influential release, that laid the blueprint for extreme metal as a whole.

The band never performed live while active but in 2019 Tom G Warrior formed ‘Triumph Of Death’ as a tribute to his former band and has been performing their music at festivals globally since.

Nachdem es fast zehn Jahre lang ruhig um AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE geworden war, lassen sie erneut die Welten von Death Metal und

Bei der augenzwinkernden Hommage an Arnold Schwarzenegger handelt es sich um das Soloprojekt des As I Lay Dying-Frontmann Tim Lambesis, der
mit dem Debütalbum Total Brutal (2008) vor über 15 Jahren die Herzen der Metalfans eroberte. Nach der Veröffentlichung von zwei weiteren
gefeierten Alben, Double Brutal (2009) und Triple Brutal (2014) verschwand Lambesis von der Bildfläche. Laut einem Interview mit dem deutschen
Metal Hammer durchlebte er „die dunkelste Phase seines Lebens“, die er mit der Hilfe von guten Freunden durchstand. Nun, nach einem Jahrzehnt
voller Aufarbeitung und Reflektion, ist die Zeit gekommen für neue Musik, die unter dem Titel Quad Brutal erscheint – randvoll mit den rasenden
Riffs, gnadenlosen Drums, wie sie für den legendären Ahhhnold angemessen sind!

Auf ihrem Album "Intermundia" befasst sich die auf dem Land in der ostitalienischen Region Marche lebende Pianistin und Komponistin Olivia Belli mit spirituellen Orten, die eine besondere Verbindung zwischen Himmel und Erde haben sollen. "An diesen heiligen Orten treffen Himmel und Erde zusammen. Sie beruhigen und besänftigen oder betören und verzaubern und eröffnen einen Blick auf das Transzendente", erklärt Olivia Belli. "Hier wird man von allem Unwesentlichen der modernen Welt befreit und es gibt nur dich und deine Seele".Für die Komposition ihres Albums hat Olivia Belli acht spezielle, spirituelle Orte in ganz Mittelitalien besucht. Jedes Stück auf "Intermundia" repräsentiert das besondere, tiefe Gefühl, das sie dort empfunden hat. So ist erste Single "Valadier" von der einmaligen Atmosphäre des in einer Felsengrotte errichteten Tempels "Tempio di Valadier" inspiriert - ein Jahrhunderte altes Heiligtum in den Frasassi-Höhlen in der Provinz Ancona. Olivia Bellis ruhige, wehmütige Miniatur vermittelt die Hoffnung und das Gefühl der Absolution, das sie an diesem Ort erlebte."'Tempio di Valadier' ist mein Zufluchtsort, an dem ich versuche das wahrzunehmen, was real aber unsichtbar ist, um über die physischen Dinge hinaus den Geist zu formen," erörtert Olivia Belli. "Der Tempel vermittelt eine einzigartige Schönheit und eine besondere Atmosphäre, die von seiner Perfektion ausgeht und im Kontrast zum kahlen Felsen steht." Der Titel "Bet Ha Chaim" ist von dem gleichnamigen, alten jüdischen Friedhof in Pesaro inspiriert. Dieser Friedhof gilt seinem hebräischen Namen nach als "Haus des Lebens". In "Pian Perduto" vertont Olivia Belli die auf einer von drei Tälern umschlossenen Hochebene gelegene Landschaft, in der einst das Dorf Castelluccio zu finden war, bevor es durch ein Erdbeben unwiederbringlich zerstört wurde. "Sybil" ist dem Gipfel des Monte Sibyl im italienischen Apennin gewidmet, wo der Legende nach die Hellseherin Sibylle in einer Höhle lebte. "Sibyl" schließt das Album als Höhepunkt von Olivia Bellis musikalischer Pilgerreise ab. Kompositorisch ließ sich Olivia Belli für ihr Album durch das mittelalterliche Modalsystem der Kirchentonarten inspirieren. Sie ordnet die acht bekannten Modi den jeweiligen Stimmungen der von ihr besuchten Orten zu. Die so entstandenen acht Kompositionen unterbricht sie in der Reihenfolge des Albums mit vier nach dem italienischen Begriff für Atem "Respiro" benannten, ruhigen Klavierzwischenspielen. Sechs der Titel werden von einem Streichtrio begleitet. "Die Orte, die ich auf Intermundia vertonte, sind Plätze, an denen Menschen spirituelles Wachstum suchen und wir uns selbst besser wahrnehmen können. Solche Orte können überall sein - wir müssen sie nur finden" so Olivia Belli.

'Reet' is a lost treasure of late 1960s folk/psych-folk. The only album she ever put to tape, with clear pure voice and guitar. luckily recorded by Andres Raudsepp in 1969.

Reet will be loved in the same breath as ;Sibylle Baier, Vashti Bunyan, Molly Drake, Bridget st John, Reet Hendrikson deserves wider listening and recognition.

Reet Hendrikson was born in Estonia only months before the "great escape" into exile in 1944. Brought up and educated in Sweden, she went to study in the US in 1967 on a Fulbright scholarship, before she made her mark as an Estonian musician in Canada. While her arrangements of Estonian folksongs on the guitar reflected the styles of the sixties, her voice and choice of material sounded authentic and made a connection with ages past.

When Hendrikson arrived in Canada in 1968 via the US, her Estonian was native-like because of the high quality of Estonian schools in Sweden. She was thus able to characterise the identity of young ex-patriate Estonians – especially those born in exile from Soviet occupation – in a new and meaningful way. A formal musical background allowed her to create the arrangements that accompanied her simple but pure singing voice. Having heard her under northern Muskoka pines at an Estonian summer seminar, it didn't takeAndres Raudsepp ( of raindeer records)long to bring her to a recording studio. "Reet – Estonian folksongs" appeared in 1969.

Hendrikson soon found her way to the scholarly atmosphere of Boston where, as a multi-instrumentalist, she joined a group of musicians who favoured traditional folk music. Back in Sweden in the 1980ies, she was invited to join a scholarly society of Estonian young women, which she led during musical sessions. She visited Estonia as frequently as possible, trying in particular to be helpful to Estonian musicians by providing sheet music and much-needed repertoire from the Swedish National Radio Archives, where she worked for a while..

Reet Hendrikson died in Stockholm in the autumn of 2000.

30th year anniversary edition of Distorted Pony's industrial noise-rock classic 'Punishment Room, remastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Service in 2023. Back on vinyl for the first time in 30 years, recorded in 1992 by Steve Albini and originally released on Bomp!, this album is an absolute essential for any noise-rock aficionado. The Los Angeles band turned heads with their aggressive mix of industrial, post-punk, feedback assault on metal sheets and trashcans. The focal point of Distorted Pony (which formed in 1986 and called it quits in ’93) was Dora Jahr’s seething bass and the mix of screeching guitars from David U and Robert Hammer. "Distorted Pony was already history by the time Instant Winner was released, but with proper live-fast/die-young spirit the album leaves one hell of an impressive corpse — it’s easily the most potent of the three records

Following her contribution to this Spring’s Gudu & Friends Vol. 1 compilation, Lady Blacktronika steps out with a full EP for Peggy Gou’s Gudu label.

Whether operating as Lady Blacktronika or her Femanyst alias, Akua Grant has built a deserved reputation as one of house and techno’s most daring and unique artists - one that dates back 25 years now, when she first debuted as a vocalist.

“House and techno” can be a cliched catch-all term, but in Grant’s case, she really has explored the extremes of both sides. Her early Lady Blacktronika work, when she earned the nickname The First Lady of Beatdown, saw her produce and narrate a style of deep house that was both sensitive and transgressive, while as Femanyst, she explores some of techno’s darkest corners, all distorted kicks and serrated edges.

Her EP for Gudu kicks off with some serious intent: ‘Baby I Got It’ chops its vocals rough and raw, pairing them with marching drums and the sort of idiosyncratic synth-work that feels like a Blacktronika signature at this point. ‘Sing the Blues’ and ‘Hold My Hand’ take things smoother, but without ever deferring to type — as ever with Grant’s music, she works with such sleight of hand that it’s easy to skip back three minutes previous and wonder how the hell we got here. Her tracks are just that hypnotic and hallucinatory.

Closing the EP, Octo Octa provides a remix of ‘Hold My Hand’ that extends things to a full 12 minutes (note: slightly shorter on the vinyl due to time constraints), taking us out with crushed percs and held pads over some undeniable drum work.

This EP marks the final release of Gudu’s busiest year to date, with music on the label in 2023 coming from Special Request, Matisa, Mogwaa, Hiver, Matrefakt, DMX Krew, Dukwa, Brain de Palma, Lady Blacktronika, Salamanda and Closet Yi.

Die "Sessions"-Compilation vereint eine Reihe verschiedener Projekte, an denen Rhett Forrester im Laufe seiner allzu kurzen, aber dennoch beeindruckenden Karriere beteiligt war. Die meisten dieser Aufnahmen sind im Vergleich zu den bekannteren Veröffentlichungen von Rhett Forrester, sei es mit der legendären Band Riot, Jack Starrs erstem Soloalbum "Out Of The Darkness" oder Rhett's eigenem Solo-Output, in Vergessenheit geraten. Den Anfang machen die "Dirty Water Sessions", die erstmals auf dem längst vergriffenen Compilation-Album "Hell Or Highwater" zu hören waren und in Texas mit dem Gitarristen und Co-Autor Jonathan Grell aufgenommen wurden, der früher bei der Band Winterkat spielte. Diese Songs sind die allerletzten Aufnahmen, die Rhett vor seinem frühen Tod machte. Als nächstes folgt das Projekt "Dogbone", eine Band, die Rhett mit den ehemaligen Keel-Mitgliedern Brian Jay und Dwain Miller gründete. Diese Aufnahmen wurden Mitte der 1990er Jahre in begrenztem Umfang halboffiziell veröffentlicht, sind aber bis heute weitgehend ungehört geblieben. Außerdem enthält "Sessions" den einzigen Track aus dem "Thrasher"-Projektalbum mit Rhett. Dieser Track wurde von Andrew Duck McDonald und Carl Canedy produziert und war auch auf der "Hell Or Highwater"-Compilation zu hören. To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, The Residents undertook a secret, one-off performance in their hometown of San Francisco. Joined on stage by a hand-picked cast of guest artists, the group and their friends performed a dream setlist of classics from the band’s back catalogue, including songs never performed live before. Featuring guest vocalists, a girls’ chorus, spoken word pieces, a solo piano recital, orchestral and choral arrangements, rock freakouts, mariachi interludes and, of course, The Residents themselves. With their sound and style completely defined on their previous and nearly perfect album, “Soldiers of the Night”, Vicious Rumors continue on with yet another outstanding sequel that could go hand in hand with their debut. This is pretty much US Power Metal with actual riffs, and some technical and mindblowing riffs at that with Geoff Thorpe’s tremendous skill and incredible songwriting. The standout here is hands down vocalist Carl Albert (Rest in peace). Nothing but energy sparks from his every lyric spoken. His aggressive and energetic mid-range performance can easily be matched to Bruce Dickinson. Vicious Rumors were truly out of this world when Carl was with them, this being the flawless beginning of that legacy. Its nearly impossible to pinpoint Vicious Rumors exact sound and style and just throw them in one genre, because you really can not. There are a few Speed Metal songs here, a few more Power Metal orientated ones, few hints of progessive structures, and even some Thrashy parts from time to time. Standout tracks would be the self title track, “Minute to Kill”, “R.L.H (Run Like Hell)”, and “Towns of Fire”. Then again, this whole album is just great with no real low points at all. In the end, this is an essential Vicious Rumors album, and often hailed as their finest release!

Swedish death metal legends UNLEASHED are among the undisputed Viking kings of the entire genre. Founded in 1989 by Johnny Hedlund, UNLEASHED have been delivering first-class death metal in the tradition of their Nordic ancestors since day one! The best-of album "Viking Raids" is an impressive collection of works from the band's first creative phase from 1991 to 2004, during which time the band released albums such as "Across the Open Sea", "Vitory", "Warrior" and "Hell's Unleashed". Songs such as "Death Metal Victory", "The Longships Are Coming", "Winterland" or the stomping "Don't Want To Be Born" have long since become genuine classics that have to be played at every metal party. This release captures the joyous and confrontational performance by the pioneering experimental electronic-pop outfit The Knife, 'Shaking the Habitual: Live at Terminal 5.' After a seven-year hiatus from playing live, the resulting musical saw The Knife expand from Karin Dreijer and Olof Dreijer to a 11-piece dance troupe. The show was recorded at the Hell’s Kitchen venue Terminal 5 in 2014. It was the Knife’s last tour before the band called it quits in November of that year

Der schwedische Singer/Songwriter brauchte einen Ausgangs- und einen Endpunkt, dazwischen kann er mit seinen Liedern auf der ganze Welt unterwegs sein, im Vorprogramm von Leonard Cohen oder Kris Kristofferson singen, mit seinen Bandprojekten Loosegoats und Songs Of Soil touren oder Solo-Konzerte spielen, die nur so vor Intensität und Erhabenheit leuchten. So wie sein neues Album "A Village: Natural Light" es schon im Titel trägt. Lieder über nicht weniger als Leben, Lieben und Sterben. Nicht, weil er so morbide wäre, sondern weil er den wahrhaftigsten Job, den es nur geben kann, machen wollte. Das setzt er als Songwriter konsequent fort Und als Musiker lässt er die Lieder dann so hell erstrahlen, dass man ihn quasi vor sich sieht, wie er sich die Erde von den Händen reibt, die Gitarre nimmt und in seiner Kirche seine Stimme erhebt.

Jedipedia says, Beskar is a uniquely resistant iron that develops a wide range of properties—and colors—in the hands of skilled metalsmiths. Alright. Musically speaking, we’re dealing with a stealthy, funky as hell trance-not-trance juggernaut. 2024 is off to a good start:)

That's a good place to start, but the album's plain & descriptive title does little to explain exactly what goes on in the hour-long adventure contained therein.the first glass beach album was initially self-released by the band in Spring 2019, but it's roots date back to as early as 2015 - songwriter & band leader j mclendon started demoing songs for the album when they first moved to Los Angeles & spent three years polishing those first demos into these songs with bassist Jonas Newhouse & drummer William White. On their Bandcamp page, the band describes their sound as the accumulation of jazz, new wave, synth music, and emo distorted through the lens of punk. The songs that make up the first glass beach album are ambitious, theatrical and chaotic. Abandoning genre limitations makes glass beach's talent for songwriting all the more apparent - mathy guitar leads, catchy drum grooves and the constant interplay of horns, synths, and even the intermittent theremin set the perfect scene for j's stunning vocal performance, which can shift from a charming falsetto to the lead of a sing-a-long in an instant.
