Wewantsounds is delighted to announce the release of Akiko Yano"s cult 1979 album 7 O"Clock in Tokyo, recorded live in September 1978 at a pivotal moment in Japanese music history, just as Yellow Magic Orchestra was about to take the world by storm (Yano would tour the world with the group in 1979). Featuring a very funky Yano performance accompanied by Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi, plus Tatsuro Yamashita and Minako Yoshida, the album is presented outside Japan for the first time, with remastered audio, original artwork, and a four-page insert including new liner notes by Paul Bowler.

Fresh from the success of 2024"s "Hombres", "Gun" continue their comeback with this revitalised edition of Swagger. Originally released in 1994, the album featured their hit single "Word Up", a cover of the Cameo"s pop song that they transformed into their own tongue-in-cheek hard rock banger which charted all over Europe and went to the top 10 in the UK. After completing his nationwide run with Ice Nine kills, the rocker has been hard at work prepping Cruel World. The collection of songs includes several notable features, including the likes of From First To Last, as well as Ice Nine Kills. The 9-song minialbum is chock full of TX2's well-known hard-hitting sinister sound, and he's bringing an added dose of heavy with these new songs as well. Tween ist voller wunderschöner Wye Oak-Songs, deren einziges Vergehen das Timing und der Kontext waren, gemacht von zwei Leuten auf dem Höhepunkt ihres Schaffens. In einem Moment umarmen Jenn und Andy ihren schwebendsten Cocteau-Twins-Instinkt (,If You Should See"), im nächsten sind sie wieder ein bisschen im Civilian-Territorium (,No Dreaming") und später sind sie geschmeidig und elektronisch und wunderschön 80er-mäßig (,On Luxury"). Der rote Faden: Das sind keine Ausgestoßenen oder Ausschnitte. Tatsächlich könnte Tween sogar leichter zugänglich sein als Shriek. Es sollte in die Riege der großartigen Nicht-Alben der Geschichte aufgenommen werden, deren Namen versuchen, ihre tatsächliche Qualität herunterzuspielen, wie R.E.M.s Dead Letter Office, The Whos Odds and Sods und vielleicht sogar Dinosaur Jr.s Whatever's Cool With Me.

The Nightlife isn’t just a single. It’s a fever dream. Honey Dijon and Chloë have built a sonic peephole into a city that only half-existed—New York’s Meatpacking District in the late ’70s, that liminal wet haze where sweat, leather, and desire commingled under streetlights that flickered like dying stars. Imagine Blade Runner rewritten by Jean Genet, but scored for bodies pressed together at 4 a.m.—that’s the terrain.

And in the marrow of this track, the ghost of Kim English’s Nitelife thrums—an invocation of the 1990s underground, those rooms where freedom was fragile but absolute. Honey Dijon doesn’t just sample it. She resuscitates it, drags it into the now, dresses it in sequins and grief, insists we dance harder because the future is burning quicker.

This isn’t nostalgia. This isn’t homage. This is ritual. A reminder that nightlife was always resistance—radical, erotic, communal. And The Nightlife is a portal, a signal flare, maybe even an omen. Something larger is coming. Consider this the first act.

The sound palette is similar across the EP, deep, lush pads, rhythmic, percussive beats, swirling you into a heady haze - MJ's Groove, Fiesta 132, Close Encounter... Featuring two collaborations with the brilliant Bluetoof on the B side, Indigo, again in line with a similar sound palette. Yet the last track "sweeter than" ironically takes you by a dark surprise!

Osaka-based producer and beat-maker Altz reinterprets and remixes Roland P. Young's spiritual jazz classic, Isophonic Boogie Woogie for the EM label!Intergenerational gene-splicing from EM. Roland Young's Isophonic Boogie Woogie, tripped-out minimalist spiritual free jazz from 1980 (previously reissued by EM as EM1045CD/LP), is here mutated, masticated and machined by Altz, renowned "organic electronicist" from Osaka. Maintaining and magnifying the cosmic bliss-vibe of the original release, Altz lovingly massages Young's sounds into the year 2009. Sounds are layered and treated, atmospheres extended, and propulsive elements from Young's original recordings are bolstered (there is some fine drumming here from former Boredoms drummer Muneomi Senju). Altz also respects Young's more absract side, following the elder master into atmospheres of freedom, unrestrained by the gravity of the beat and the conventions of the dance floor.

Emma Yuzz bursts onto the scene with her EP Clementine, an intimate and emotional offering that fuses soul and R&B with her own authentic style. The EP includes six tracks: four songs (“Goodbye Clementine,” “Confessions,” “Bring me Back,” and “Wild”), an interlude (“Lluna de foc” - ‘Moon of fire’) and an outro (“Me despido” - ‘I say goodbye’), all connected by a deep emotional narrative

HighSchool veröffentlichen ihr lang ersehntes selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum. Das Melbourner Duo Rory Trobbiani und Luke Scott sorgte erstmals mit der Debüt-EP „Forever At Last“ für Aufsehen, zog daraufhin nach London um mit Dan Carey (Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., Franz Ferdinand) einige Songs aufzunehmen. Mit ihrem aufregenden Mix von Lo-Fi-, New-Wave-, Gothic- und Post-Punk-Sounds konnten sie bereits das Publikum auf zahlreichen Festivals und Supports für Sam Fender, Chvrches und zuletzt Wunderhorse begeistern. Für die Arbeit an ihrem Debütalbum zogen Trobbiani und Scott nach Australien zurück, holten sich Unterstützung von den Produzenten Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) und Finn Bellingham (RIP Magic, Sam Akpro, Sunken) und haben nun eine essentielle Platte im Gepäck. Kernthema ist passend zum Bandnamen das Hochschulleben. Die 12 Tracks kanalisieren perfekt die rastlose Energie und die rosaroten Mythen der Jugend.

Da ich schon seit Jahren von Andrew Chalks Arbeit mit MIRROR (und auch von seinen Solo-Projekten als FERIAL CONFINE sowie seinen vielen Kollaborationen mit David Jackman, The New Blockaders, Daisuke Suzuki usw.) und Timo van Luijk (als Af Ursin, In Camera, La Poupée Vivante und Kollaborationen mit Kris Vanderstraeten und anderen) fasziniert, war ich natürlich neugierig, von ihrem Duo-Projekt ELODIE zu hören. Das Projekt wurde 2010 gegründet und hat bis heute schon elf wunderschöne Alben rausgebracht. ,Vieux Silence" für Ideologic Organ ist ihre erste Veröffentlichung außerhalb ihres eigenen Plattenlabels Faraway Press & La Scie Dorée. Das ist aber nicht das erste Mal, dass Ideologic Organ und ELODIE zusammenarbeiten. Sie traten im Februar 2012 bei einem von mir kuratierten Abend in London zusammen mit Jessika Kenney und Eyvind Kang auf. Elodies Auftritt war einer der feinfühligsten und gekonntesten, die ich je gesehen habe ... so still, während draußen vor den Fenstern des Cafe Oto in London der Schnee fiel, versank das Publikum spürbar in hochkonzentriertem Zuhören. Die Erinnerung daran ist echt beeindruckend, wenn man bedenkt, wie sparsam die einzelnen Elemente an diesem Abend eingesetzt wurden. ,Vieux Silence" und ELODIE im Allgemeinen regen sofort die visuelle Vorstellungskraft an, vielleicht gefiltert durch alte Aquarelle, Bandkorn, antike Linsen, vergessene Ebenen des Zuhörens und beobachtende Geduld. Auf diesem wunderschönen Album arbeiten Chalk & van Luijk auch mit Klavier, Pedal Steel und Klarinette zusammen (gespielt von Tom James Scott, Daniel Morris und Jean-Noel Rebilly). Born in America’s rural black south Rock & Roll had suffered the same fate years earlier. Original artists eventually replaced by well studied clones and corporate mega profits!! Also happening the original artform of jazz appeared to be caught, processed & throughly EXPLAINED by people who sought to intellectualize “struggle & human emotion” into mere words and then benefit immensely financially by being authorities on the subject.

Less than a year after the release of his debut album Heavy Glory, Elias returns with his sophomore album. Conceived and recorded in his bedroom between tours, Speak Daggers features appearances from the legendary group The Congos, and Copenhagen artists Erika de Casier and Fine.

Following Heavy Glory came Lucre, a collaborative record with Dean Blunt In June, Elias released the stand-alone single Carry-On Bag, and earlier this August, a two-track collaboration with Jonatan Leandoer96 and Fousheé.
