The Blue Moods of Spain is the 1995 debut album by the band Spain, led by Josh Haden. It features tracks such as Untitled #1, and World of Blue. The band included Evan Hartzell on drums, Merlo Podlewski and Ken Boudakian on guitar. The album was released by Restless Records and marked the beginning of the band’s recording career.

With this album, Heleen Van Haegenborgh returns to her roots as a pianist.
In recent years, she has primarily composed works on commission for a diverse range of ensembles, from recorders to foghorns.
On this solo album, her entire journey of musical encounters and compositions comes together subtly.
Van Haegenborgh doesn't think in terms of stories or boxes, but rather in colours, energy, and texture - without drifting into the abstract.
She remains true to her personal inside piano world, including the use of wires she has been experimenting with since 2008. These are given a place here as fully-fledged musical elements, communicating on different levels, in various contexts and forms.
The electronics sometimes become completely one with the piano, but often follow an entirely different path: at times calm, subtle and refined; at other times nervous and under the surface. Always within specific atmospheres and with precise timing.
Van Haegenborgh took charge of every detail from start to finish - electronics, composition, and performance.

Wewantsounds is delighted to reissue French pop icon Brigitte Fontaine"s landmark 1968 album Brigitte Fontaine Est Folle, originally released on the cult label Saravah and arranged by Jean-Claude Vannier. This special 2-LP edition, approved by the artist, features the original album, newly remastered from the original tapes, along with a second LP of demos, instrumentals, and a live rendition of "Il Pleut" recorded for France Inter/ORTF. The release also includes a 20-page bilingual booklet with introductions by journalist Jeremy Allen and Stereolab"s Laetitia Sadier, essays by Brigitte Fontaine"s biographer Benoît Mouchart and Benjamin Barouh, plus full lyrics and rare archival photos.

The sound is based on drones, heavy riffing and inspired by ancient hindustan singing and playing (with instruments such as Sitar, Dilruba and Harmonium). Litania is also the title of our first album, eight tracks of evocative, hypnotic doom, where the raw power of guitars merges with the spiritual depth of Indian classical music. The songs, intense and dark, are interspersed with instrumental passages featuring sitar, dilruba, harmonium, and tanpura. The vocals, deep and ritualistic, draw inspiration from ancient Indian Ragas, evoking a sonic journey suspended between abyss and transcendence.

Am Anfang ihrer Karriere wurde Madison Cunningham noch als “Enkelin von Joni Mitchell“ und “kleine
Schwester von Fiona Apple“ bezeichnet, von solchen Vergleichen, sollten sie auch noch so schmeichelhaft
sein, hat sich die Singer-Songwriterin und Multiinstrumentalistin aber spätestens seit ihrem zweiten Album,
dem Grammy-Gewinner “Revealer”, freigeschwommen. Dem lässt sie jetzt das dritte Werk “Ace” folgen,
ein Album rund um die Liebe.
Musikalisch pendelt Madison Cunningham zwischen Balladen, West-Coast-Folk und jazzig angehauchtem
Singer/Songwriter-Pop. Neben ihrem bewährten Gesang und Gitarrenspiel überzeugt Cunningham, die
kürzlich mit Mumford & Sons auf deren „Railroad Revival“-Tour unterwegs war, diesmal auch am Piano.
Auf dem Album ist auch Robin Pecknold von den Fleet Foxes zu hören. Überhaupt hat sich Madison

Swedish trio Death And Vanilla follow their much-praised re-imagined soundtracks to `Vampyr' (2017) and `The Tenant' (2018) with their interpretation of the soundtrack to cult 1968 TV show `Whistle And I'll Come To You'. Ltd White Vinyl LP, Soundtrack / Electronic / Indie At a time when post-ambient electronica and bedevilled folk music are co-habiting, and the public's interest in Pagan rites and rituals has been sparked by a new generation of fans. The bizarre storyline of Whistle And I'll Come To You seems even more pertinent_ and strangely haunting. The Jonathan Miller-adapted 1968 ghost story was originally part of BBC's Omnibus series and featured Michael Horden as a fussy professor who discovers an ancient whistle which summons up the spirits. A black and white folkloric tale in the style of The Wicker Man, the original TV programme received rave reviews. The esoteric live score was recorded at the Hypnos Theatre in Malmö. The 42-minute soundtrack utilises stuttering tape loops on `Intro' before breathing new life into the primitive John Carpenter-like drum machine on `Supernatural Breakfast', while `Walk On The Beach 2' sounds like a hauntological rendition of a Broadcast classic. Indeed, that effect is amplified on `Nightmares', with its swirling wind and other-worldly choral effect, before the feeling of some supernatural presence is suggested on the penultimate cut `Evidence Of Spiritualism'.

Belgian singer-songwriter Emma Hessels releases her debut EP 'Constant Distance' on October 24 via Unday Records. With a voice that lingers long after the song has ended and lyrics that feel like pages torn from a diary, Hessels has quickly carved out her place in the Belgian scene. She was named laureate of Sound Track in 2023, went on to play intimate yet arresting sets at Ancienne Belgique, Botanique, and the prestigious Cirque Royal, and appeared at Best Kept Secret this summer.

Milestones that signaled the arrival of a singular new voice in folk and soul.

'Constant Distance' gathers six songs bound by a recurring undercurrent: the presence of distance in its many forms - absence, longing, loneliness, the fear of loss, but also the desire for belonging. The songs weren't conceived around a single theme, but when brought together, a pattern revealed itself. Loss implies distance, longing implies distance, even love can. Yet the EP closes on 'Breaking', a gospel-tinged anthem of connection and alignment, written during a women's writer's retreat where community and music became inseparable.

Musically, 'Constant Distance' moves between folk and soul, carrying the feel of modern blues and occasionally leaning into gospel's call-and-response. The atmosphere is warm and nostalgic, drawing inspiration from Laura Marling, Damien Rice and Big Thief as much as from Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone and Richie Havens. Emma's voice remains the constant thread: soulful, unforced, quietly commanding. "I hope my songs can be like a warm blanket, something that keeps you company, that makes you feel a little less alone."

Though written solo on guitar, often during long train rides, the songs expanded into layered productions through collaboration with Aram Santy, Nard Houdmeyers and Fender Mackenson Rooms, with additional contributions such as Marthe van Droogenbroeck's evocative trumpet. Recorded over two intense days at Studio Beertje, the EP captures both intimacy and expansiveness. The result is music that carries the weight of Emma's fears and questions, but also the joy of collective creation.

With 'Constant Distance', Emma Hessels doesn't just deliver a debut - she opens a world where fragility and strength coexist, and where music becomes a way of closing the gap between people.

"Bandleader Lina Langendorf has been known in Sweden for a long time as one of the most skilled and forward thinking saxophone players. She has been staying in both Mali and Ethopia for longer periods and has performed in concerts with legendary artists like Alemayehu Eshete, Vieux Farka Touré and...Mulatu Astatke who, at his club African Jazz Village (in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia), introduced Lina to people in the audience with the words: 'Amazing saxophone player, big respect! We should play together some day'. Some minutes later they go on stage together. Joined by the legendary piano player Dawit Yifru and the bass player from Roha Band, Giovanni Rico Bonsignori. 'Fantastic. You're so strong. Everybody loves you, they say you are ethio-jazz' was Mulatu's words after the jam session.
Lina has also been invited to the live club Le Hogon in Bamako numerous times for jam sessions and concerts with Toumani Diabaté and his band. And for Lina, these jam sessions in Addis and Bamako has been a crucial part of shaping (and sharpening) her musical vision. Last year she was also touring the UK as part of James Yorkston, Nina Persson and the second hand orchestra.
But it wasn't until feb 2023 we got to hear her own music. The debut album with her newly formed band Langendorf United was co-released between Italian label Black Sweat records and Swedish label Sing A Song Fighter and it immediately resonated with music lovers around the world (Radiohead drummer Philip Selway called it 'as if Tinariwen and Fela Kuti had a Blue Note session').
But the band is not just the composer/Saxophone star and band leader Lina Langendorf. Oh, no. The other four musicians are all highly praised musicians in various jazz bands in Sweden and Norway and together they form this sacred thythmic unity with the pulsating bass at the centre.

Building their own bizarre universe out of Portland, Oregon, The Macks announce their new album "Bonanza" (DevilDuck Records). The news of the album rolls out in the form of two new singles and videos: "Dually of Man" and "The Modern Grape". Described by the band as "a collection of miscellaneous rock that could only have been crafted by this dedicated and bull-headedly sincere troupe of desperate artists," The Macks are coming unglued but are fully in their pocket. Founded in 2015 in Portland, Oregon, The Macks are brothers Josef (drums) and Ben Windheim (guitar), Sam Fulwiler (vocals), Jacob Michael Perris (keys) and Aidan Harrison (bass).

Originally released in 1992 via Tesco, »Cancer« was recorded one year earlier by Thymme Jones, Dan Burke, Mark Klein, Mitch Enderle, Chris Block, and Jim O'Rourke.

This one was mostly a group effort focused on a dark ambient atmospheric environment and experimental minimalism that crawls under your skin. Mark & Thymme’s heavy synth is omnipresent, Mitch & Chris scraping every piece of scrap metal they could find, Jim’s extended piano & tabletop guitar is apparent, the abstract sampling techniques of founding member Daniel Burke appear throughout, & the beautiful solo minimalist piano composition of Thymme’s closes the LP. Soundtrack like in its scope the album is another in the ongoing concept of music without a film providing a dark soundtrack to the nightmares or realities we wish we could forget. The 2025 edit & remaster removes the excess and hones the meat down to 7 essential tracks that show the projects oeuvre at that point in their lengthy history sounding clear & fresh with the newly mastered version by Andrew Weathers.

With his surprise fifth studio album ‘Magickal’ continuing to resonate across the global electronic landscape, Damian Lazarus now unveils the second half of the project’s ambitious remix series. Out 26th September via Crosstown Rebels, ‘Magickal Remixed (Part II)’ enlists the talents of Cinthie, Timo Maas, and Anthony Middleton, with each of the three celebrated artists bringing their unique perspective to the Crosstown head’s latest long-player. Arriving in both digital and vinyl formats, this three-track package builds on the energy of Part I, which featured takes from Harry Romero, Jonathan Kaspar, and Mëstiza, and THEMBA’s earlier remix of lead single Searchin’, continuing a journey that reimagines Magickal’s most defining moments through fresh, club-ready interpretations.

Opening the release, Berlin favourite Cinthie takes on ‘Y Don’t U’, injecting her signature analogue warmth and groove-driven touch into the album cut, reworking it into a silky, floor-focused workout that radiates her unmistakable house sound. Longstanding innovator Timo Maas steps up next with his remix of ‘Warrior Dance’, Lazarus’ amapiano-inspired collaboration with Ghanaian artist Jojo Abot. Stripping back and rebuilding the track into a hypnotic, low-slung affair, Maas balances subtle percussive detail with deep, pulsating basslines to create an intoxicating new dimension. Closing out the EP, Anthony Middleton, one half of Audiofly, reshapes the soulful ‘So Low’ featuring Zeo Kypri into a textured and emotionally charged journey, weaving its vocal lines through expansive sound design and rolling grooves.

In-Correcto 15–25 marks the first vinyl compilation by Bogotá’s independent label InCorrecto, created in collaboration with Austrian imprint discos elgozo. Celebrating ten years of sonic exploration and creative resistance from the Global South, this special edition brings together a vibrant constellation of artists that define the label’s sound: La Muchacha, Ana María Vahos, Felipe Orjuela, Mau Gatiyo, Conjunto Media Luna, Briela Ojeda, Zarigüeya, Buha 2030, and many more. Carefully pressed, In-Correcto 15–25 is more than a record: it is a bridge between Bogotá’s underground and a global network of listeners. A sonic archive and an invitation to dance, it reaffirms that joy, experimentation, and community remain powerful tools to imagine the world otherwise.

'Don't Turn Your Back On Me feat. Pauline Taylor' originally featured on US house innovator and Basement Boys co-founder Teddy Douglas's ‘I’m Here’ album in late 2024. It's a true soulful house anthem with funky bass and a glorious vocal that was primed for a A-list remix package. Douglas himself opens up this package with joyous organ chords and soft melodies lighting up the smooth, seductive drums. Swiss DJ and producer Shaka goes next as an artist who has spent decades blending acid, Chicago, and Detroit influences into his own tunes on top labels like Nervous, GooD MooD, and Mister Bear Records. His 12-inch Club version strips things back to go deep and dubby before rebuilding with sunny melodies, expressive organs, and proggy guitar licks that bring joyous energy and real dance floor unity.

Next is NYC DJ Tedd Patterson, a true originator, resident at Ladyfags’ Battle Hymn party and a regular at Horse Meat Disco, Berghain’s Panorama Bar, and Glitterbox, as well as releasing on Strictly Rhythm, Nervous, Defected, and more. His sophisticated remix boasts a warm and bouncy sound, complemented by soulful vocals that lend richness. Then it's seminal NYC favourite Danny Krivit, who is part of the cult Body and Soul crew, is a renowned remixer and editor with hundreds of credits to his name on the most important labels in the scene, and is resident DJ at New York’s legendary 718 Sessions. He draws on his vast experience to edit the original into a playful disco stomper, complete with neat guitar riffs and zippy synths, all bursting with joy as the funky beats roll on and the lush vocals soar to new heights.

Unknown Waveforms is the forthcoming album from Belgian trio KAU, set for release on October 10, 2025. Marking an evolution since their 2023 release The Cycle Repeats, this new record captures a more personal, immediate, and unfiltered version of the band's sound. In an increasingly digital world, KAU takes a different route, with an album rooted in human connection, live energy, and creative spontaneity. Here, the trio reflect their take on instrumental music, drawing heavily fromjazz, hip hop, and electronic influences.

At the heart of Unknown Waveforms lies the starting point of three musicians in a room, writing and composing music on the spot. For KAU, this idea mirrors their working method: long jam sessions, free-flowing experimentation, and shared moments of inspiration. Songs often take shape slowly, unfolding over hours or days, but always built collaboratively as a trio.

The album's title reflects the mystery behind how music comes together, but is also both literal and symbolic. Unknown waveforms are the sounds that arise when machines and people interact in unpredictable ways. Whether you're an experienced musician or just starting out, the creative process often feels elusive and hard to fully understand. But there are also certain moments: creative sparks that can't be planned or programmed. It ends up being more than notes, gear, or structure, it's about the process, the tension and energy that builds when people connect and create in the same room.

The title track, Unknown Waveforms, captures that exact process. It opens with a quote from synth pioneer Wendy Carlos: "I'm just trying to show you how we get some of these sounds", inviting listeners directly into the creative space. The track focuses less on a polished outcome and more on the moment before a song is "finished": it's a portrait of experimentation, feeling, and raw expression.

This commitment to honesty permeates the entire album. KAU kept overdubs to a minimum, avoided excessive editing, and prioritized spontaneous choices over calculated ones. In a time when the future of live, improvised music feels uncertain, they double down on the physical, the real, and the immediate. The album resists the pristine polish of modern production, favoring the warmth and imperfection of analog synthesis. The band embraces the character of their instruments, particularly vintage gear, where subtle flaws add beauty, depth, and personality.

One standout track, cr_eye, is driven by the Moog Subphatty-a key instrument in the band's toolkit for its analog warmth and powerful sub-bass. The track centers around the conversation between bass and drums, allowing the keyboards to recede and create space. It draws emotional threads from earlier KAU tracks like Kampala and Kautokeino, bridging past and present with a shared atmosphere and rhythmic interplay.

Another highlight, Stratford, finds inspiration in London's transport system and the UK jazz scene that has long influenced KAU. A field recording snippet of the London Underground kicks off the track, connecting it to the rhythm of everyday commutes. Built around a hypnotic sequencer line from the Roland JX-3P, the track evokes the motion of a metro journey. Artists like Nubya Garcia, Yussef Dayes, and Alfa Mist, giants of the scenethat the band has admired for years, resonate subtly throughout.

Above all, Unknown Waveforms is a statement of intent from KAU: a celebration of imperfection, creative honesty and an insight in the process.

HERITAGE celebrates 30 years of Mr Sam's career in a world-first collector's edition: a monumental best-of gathering 40 tracks across 10 vinyls. With his first EP on Token, Phara conjures up four tracks detailing dancefloor impact with robust personality. In 'Second Skin', the Belgian artist is eager for resolution, keeping tension high with the bold analog sound he's known for. Coming eye to eye with the label's sound, Phara pays homage to Token while fiercely defending years of artistic direction - layering the label's astral ambiance with his unstoppable movement.

'Second Skin' sets Phara's intentions clear. The titletrack rolls forward like heavy machinery with what seems like shifting vocals breathing life into the stereo image. This first cut is a gold standard of peaktime production, creating a sense of purpose at the core of urgency. Claps and rides boom and whip around the track that lumbers on with chord stabs to add soul to flare. 'The Ring', however, takes the listener into another direction. Heavily centered on the drum sequence with a sharp slap-back delay, Phara plays with resonance, sparking psychosis amongst movement. Playful in the short term, 'The Ring' proves to be an ultra-hypnotic track reserved for a set's high intensity stretches on an already surrendered dancefloor. Taking this energy and pulling it in, 'Neon' comes to establish a bit more intimacy at first. Here, the producer diffuses his elements into themselves and, in turn, creates a thick ambiance that drives the record forward in space and dissonance. 'Neon' is inquisitive and almost spiritual in its effect, playing with the line between a unified dancefloor and an introspective journey. The conclusion to the EP is 'Blood', a return to dryer production - at least in the beginning. Ambient, almost psychedelic synth work sucks in the listener over unwavering energy to create a closing track worthy of its name. Rolling through to the end, 'Blood' delivers the final blow to an insatiable record on Token by Phara.

Joaquin Joe Claussell readies the ‘Raw Tones’ LP on Rekids this June.

The first LP since 2008’s ‘Corresponding Echoes’ on his Sacred Rhythm Music, Joaquin Joe Claussell arrives on Radio Slave’s Rekids for ‘Raw Tones’, a nine-track excursion through the sound of his exquisitely soulful house music.

Originally released on uber limited cassettes, the music within ‘Raw Tones’ caught the ear of Radio Slave, aka Matt Edwards, who messaged Claussell, a friend since remixing Edwards’ Machine project in 2012, and convinced the legendary producer that the music needed a wider audience and, so, ‘Raw Tones’ the LP is here.

Introspective opening cut ‘Lock Down’ draws for breathy strings and swirling pads, followed by the hypnotic and low-slung ‘The Blame Game (Table Top Idea)’, which sees jazzy keys float around carefully crafted dubbed-out ambience and subtle, whispered vocals.

‘Break Free’ ups the energy, bringing a wonky bassline under decisive, machine-like drum hits while both spoken and sung vocals interplay throughout. ‘You Mutha Fuka’ brings rock-solid drums and thick bass underneath delayed vocals before the dreamy chords and twinkling keys of ‘Way Back Then’ close out the B-side.

The gorgeous ‘Air We Breathe (Revisited Cassette Demo)’ marries rolling percussion across live bass and softly drawn-out pads, followed by an instrumental version of ‘Break Free’. The final side of vinyl sees the extended trippiness of ‘If It's All In Your Mind Let It Out’ lead into the floaty low tempo closer ‘Hallucinations Ejaculations’.

Joaquin Joe Claussell, co-founder of Body & Soul with Francois Kervorkian and Danny Krivit, continues to run his Sacred Rhythm Music record label and curate the Cosmic Arts community centre in his hometown of Brooklyn, NYC.

Wenn Gitarren und Saxophone durch Pedale gepresst und Perkussion und Stimmen durch Filter gejagt werden, entsteht ein schillernder, grüner und seidiger Sound, in dem die künstlerischen Eigenheiten von David Bowie, Nico, John McGeoch und Laurie Anderson aufblitzen und wieder verschwinden.

Was übrig bleibt, ist eine sich ständig verändernde, kontinuierliche Einheit, eine Art Songzyklus. Jede Iteration reflektiert die letzte und entwickelt sie weiter. „Jede ist eine Scherbe desselben zerbrochenen Spiegels“: Sie verschiebt sich, glitzert, verbirgt und enthüllt, je nachdem, wie sie im Licht gedreht wird. Jackie Mittoo’s ‘Reggae Magic’ is a new collection from the great Jackie Mittoo. The album features a mixture of classic tunes and rarities from the period 1967-74, when Mittoo was at the height of his musical powers. Mittoo’s solo career began after the end of The Skatalites in 1965. He began pushing new musical boundaries, creating a uniquely identifiable organ-led funky reggae sound that owed as much to Booker T and The MGs, Jimmy Smith, Stax and Motown as to the post-ska and emergent rocksteady island rhythms of Kingston, Jamaica. His solo work at the legendary Studio One spanned seven albums and hundreds of singles.

Aside from producer and founder Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd, it’s hard to think of anyone more central to the sound and success of Studio One than Mittoo; keyboard player extraordinaire, songwriter, arranger, musician, truly the Keyboard King at Studio One. Jackie Mittoo had been the youngest founding member of The Skatalites (at age 16), probably the most important group in Jamaican music. After they split, he became leader of the three pivotal groups at Studio One – The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension. He also became musical director for Studio One, helping create countless hits for singers Ken Boothe, Bob Andy, The Wailers, John Holt, Delroy Wilson and more – unforgettable tunes like Alton Ellis’ ‘I’m Still in Love with You’, Marcia Griffiths’ ‘Feel Like Jumping’, The Heptones’ ‘Baby Why’ and others. Between 1965 and 1968, many of the tunes created at Studio One can be attributed to Mittoo – timeless instrumental tracks, recorded either under his own name or those of The Soul Brothers, Soul Vendors and Sound Dimension, that have become the basis for literally 1000s and 1000s of Jamaican songs over many decades, giving the music an unsurpassed longevity.

The endurance of his music was as a direct result of significant developments in Jamaican music in the 1970s, namely the creation of three important new styles: Dub, Deejay and Dancehall. In the early 1970s Mittoo’s instrumental tracks were used as the musical source for a series of classic Studio One dub albums. At the same time Deejays at Studio One, including Dillinger, Prince Jazzbo and Dennis Alcapone, began toasting over these same popular rhythms to create their own new songs. In the mid-70s, a new generation of Studio One singers and deejays, including Sugar Minott, Freddie McGregor, Johnny Osbourne, Michigan & Smiley and others, began once again creating new melodies over these original instrumentals, signalling the birth of a new Jamaican style that became known as ‘dancehall’.

As dancehall swept across the island, rival producers copied these now classic rhythms. These original Jackie Mittoo-driven tunes spread like a virus throughout Jamaican music; be they the instrumental cuts to tunes such as Alton Ellis’ ‘Mad Mad’ , ‘I’m Just A Guy’, Larry Marshall’s ‘Mean Girl’, Slim Smith’s ‘Rougher Yet’, and instrumentals such as Mittoo’s classic ‘Hot Milk’ or ‘One Step Beyond’, The Sound Dimension’s ‘Real Rock’, ‘Heavy Rock’, ‘Full Up’, ‘Drum Song’, ‘Rockfort Rock’ … and the list goes on. These tracks became a constant soundtrack to the island, emitting from the ever-present sound of speaker boxes strung up around dancehalls. This recycling travelled even farther afield; The Sound Dimension’s instrumental ‘Real Rock’, updated by Willie Williams on his classic ‘Armageddon Time’ was in turn covered by The Clash. Lily Allen sampled Mittoo’s debut solo single ‘Free Soul’ for number one hit ‘Smile’; Dawn Penn’s ‘You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)’, accompanied by The Soul Vendors, was revived by Penn and producers Steely & Cleevie in 1994, since covered by Rihanna, Ghostface Killah, Stephen Marley, Damian Marley and Beyonce. And so it goes; an endless time-leaping, continent-hopping diasporic musical map of the world with all roads essentially leading back to one man – Jackie Mittoo.

Finally, the pioneering first album from the group that epitomized the spontaneous, simultaneous and glorious emergence of the Hip-Hop and Electro Funk genres is back on vinyl. The song "Where's the Beat" has been extracted due to it's not actually being made by the group, but every other note and beat is included as it was originally released, from the opening narration and the sound effects joining the songs to the classic Hip-Hop and Electrofunk in-between. Also included for the first time anywhere is the previously unreleased track “Disco Kryptonite”!

Berlin-Hamburg duo Session Victim return to the ever-reliable Delusions Of Grandeur imprint with Chapter Two of their Sidequests trilogy, marking yet another high point in their almost twenty year journey through heartfelt, sample-rich music. Overflowing with analog warmth, sundrenched textures and irresistible grooves, the release also features a stellar remix from label cofounder and deep house pioneer Jimpster who kicks off the EP. Here he takes Behind The Glass into spaced out house-not-house territory. With crisp drum programming, trademark Rhodes, and subtle pads that build over time, his version delivers that late-night sophistication he's known for—steering the downtempo original in a clubbier direction without losing its blissed-out essence. Up next we have a brand new collaborative effort with long time friend, label mate and fellow sample nerd Nebraska. Make It Happen is a dusty, slo-mo house groove featuring delicate keys, euphoric strings and that unmistakable sense of journey. It’s just the kind of low-slung epic house they do best—intimate yet club-ready, nostalgic but never retro. Gong's Gang , a one-off project for the unique family of true musicians: Giuseppe, Lino, and Rossana Nicolosi; brothers and sisters who knew ''something'' about the Italo-boogie-funk of the early '80s, uncontaminated by the increasingly invasive electronic sound of a yet unappreciated Italo-Disco. Gimme Your Love is a gem, with Rosanna Nicolosi leading the way on vocals and cascading synths and bass blending into an intoxicating mix that should make any funk detective froth with approval. And investigating how it sounds, one discovers a certain similarity to a Charades track; strings sound a bit like Gimme The Funk (written and produced by poet Lotti Golden and Richard Sher both with Chuck Wansley and Kathrine Joyce on Warp 9), mixed in 1982 by John "Jellybean" Benitez, a very close friend of Tony Carrasco, who in 1983 produced, arranged, and mixed 'Gimme Your Love'. The two always kept an eye on each other, even from a distance, staying in touch. However, these assumptions do not detract from this stellar song: whether you prefer the vocal hit or the subtly voiced instrumental, that you can dance at any nighttime party and that absolutely deserves a second chance in the spotlight.

A brilliant jazz pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader "who could make the outlands of modern music feel like the most hospitable of places" (The Guardian), Keith Tippett's second album is oft-regarded as his Canterbury album.

Indeed, not only does he draw heavily on Soft Machine members past, present and future but the album title itself archly references a Soft Machine composition. Ray Babbington handles bass alongside Neville Whitehead and the drums are shared between Brian Spring (Nucleus), Robert Wyatt(!) and Phil Howard (who would go on to replace Wyatt in Soft Machine). Gary Boyle (Isotope) is on guitar whilst the great percussionist Tony Uter is enlisted for his conga and cow bell expertise. Elton Dean on Alto Saxello, cornetist Marc Charig and Nick Evans on trombone round out this quite stunning ensemble.

Dedicated to You, But You Weren't Listening presents a collective of superhuman musicians really, *really* enjoying themselves in the studio. The sheer exuberance of the performance is totally infectious. It's wild, energetic, atmospheric and, bluntly, bordering on chaotic at points. In a word, it's beautiful.

Robert Wyatt's drumming opens the record with a bang on the majestic Be With favourite "This Is What Happens". Some have described his work here as "easily the most inspired of his career on record." It's an ultra-funky conga-driven groove that truly sparks via the duelling interplay between the three horn players. In the background, Keith's insistent piano, in conversation with those unignorable drums, is the anchor that keeps this piece rollicking away. Breathtaking.

The epic, energetic "Thoughts to Geoff" is a 10-minute jammer that tends towards the dissonant and improvisational but becomes more fluid, laconic and melodic as it unravels. The interplay between soloists and ensembles is particularly dazzling here - blazing solos by Evans, Charig and Tippett himself in a flourish of angular arpeggios interspersed with chordal elocution. Phew.

Up next, the no less-urgent Mingus-referencing "Green and Orange Night Park" is a soaring example of ambitious jazz mixed with rock aggression, with Dean strutting his stuff by launching into a scorching solo. An absolutely jaw-dropping piece. Arguably the highlight of this album of huge highlights!

Though much of the album tends to fall on the raucous side ("Gridal Suite" approaches free-jazz at its most chaotic and, dare we say it, "difficult"), there are a few more sedate, at times spacey numbers, such as the deeply impressionistic "Five After Dawn". The rhythmically complex "Black Horse" is the most accessible track here, a sort of swinging Big Band number with tight grooves, soaring horn & reed melodies, a sizzling Boyle guitar solo and tasty electric piano riffs from Tippett. An hypnotic climax to a staggering record.

This Be With edition of Dedicated to You, But You Weren't Listening has been re-mastered from the original Vertigo master tapes, Simon Francis’ mastering working together with Cicely Balston's cut at Abbey Road Studios to weave their usual magic with these wonderful recordings. Aber wenn Sie zufällig im September 2023 vorbeigekommen sind, konnten Sie vielleicht Fiddle-Melodien hören, die von den Kiefern widerhallen, BBS-Geräusche in leeren Räumen und die Klänge von Weirs, die ihr zweites Album und ihr Debüt bei Dear Life Records aufnahmen: Diamond Grove. Nehmen wir ,Doxology l": Die Melodie von ,Old Hundred", einer Hymne aus der Sacred-Harp-Tradition, wird in MIDI umgewandelt, über iPhone-Lautsprecher abgespielt und in der Septemberluft neu aufgenommen. Für manche Revivalisten mag diese Hymne, gesungen mit der ganzen Pracht gefälschter Auto-Tune-Stimmen, blasphemisch klingen. Aber Ohren, die beispielsweise auf die Hyperpop-Produktionen der letzten Jahrzehnte eingestellt sind, werden sofort die spannungsgeladene Schönheit des digital verfremdeten Shape-Note-Gesangs verstehen. Dieselbe Spannung belebt ,l Want to Die Easy". Weirs' Version basiert auf der Aufnahme von A Golden Ring of Gospel, die in der Folkways-Sammlung Sharon Mountain Harmony verewigt ist. Die Melodien, Texte und Strukturen sind weitgehend unverändert geblieben. Aber die ,reine" Klarheit der Stimmen der frühen Aufnahme ist verschwunden. An ihre Stelle tritt der distanzierte Klang des Silos der Milchfarm, in dem Weirs ihre Version aufgenommen hat, dessen natürlicher Nachhall von zwei Sekunden die ursprüngliche Nähe ersetzt. Auf diese Weise wird der Klang des Aufnahmeortes selbst zu einem Teil der traditionellen Darbietung. Das Herzstück von Diamond Grove ist Weirs' Interpretation von ,Lord Bateman", einer Melodie, die Jean Ritchie als ,große Ballade" bezeichnete: Sie wurde gespielt, wenn die Arbeit getan war und der Tanzabend zu Ende war. Es ist ein Lied aus dem 18. Jahrhundert - so alt wie die Diamond Grove Farm - über einen gefangenen Abenteurer, der laut Nic Jones den Geist eines Errol-Flynn-Films verkörpert. Wie viele großartige und oft a cappella gesungene Interpretationen steht auch bei diesem ,Lord Bateman" die Stimme im Vordergrund und unterstreicht die Bedeutung des Geschichtenerzählens für das Zusammenkommen der Kinder. Neu ist hier der immense Bordun, der die Erzählung in ein unaufhörliches Gewebe elementarer Kräfte verwandelt. Es ist ein verschwommenes Murmeln kollektiver Saiten, das den Kanon von Ritchie und June Tabor ebenso bereichert wie Pelt's Ayahuasca oder Henry Flynt's Hillbilly Tape Music. Obwohl Diamond Grove nicht explizit von der alten Milchfarm handelt, auf der es aufgenommen wurde, kann es nicht umhin, ihr zu ähneln. Alte englische Balladen wie ,Lord Bateman" und ,Lord Randall" ergießen sich über Felder, die einst von der britischen Krone ,vergeben" wurden. Tragische Lieder wie ,Edward" taumeln über Tuscarora-Pfade und Baumwollfelder nach dem Bürgerkrieg. Hymnen wie ,Everlasting l" und ,Everlasting Il" fangen das Mondlicht ein, das seit Lord Bacons Rebellion durch doppelt gehängte Fenster fällt. Und die Nachtvögel trillern noch immer, und die Pflüge pflügen noch immer eine unkomponierte Musik, die darauf wartet, von zufälligen Ohren entdeckt zu werden. Diamond Grove ist in dieser Hinsicht Geschichte. Es ist ein Ort. Es ist Zeit. Es ist das Einfangen von Liedern, Lebendigkeit, Tonbandmanipulation. Wie der niedrige Damm, den das Wort ,Weir" andeutet, ist es eine Verteidigung gegen die Strömung. Es ist eine Verteidigung regionaler Lexika gegen massenproduzierte Umgangssprachen; eine Verteidigung gegen den Glauben, dass wir einfach zu einer einfacheren Zeit zurückkehren können; eine Verteidigung gegen die Vorstellung, dass Volksmusik ,rein" bleiben muss; eine Verteidigung gegen die Behauptung, dass ein Traum von der Zukunft, der in verlorenen Geschichten schlummert, unwiederbringlich verloren ist. Gegen all das verteidigt Diamond Grove traditionelle Musik, indem es sie so klingen lässt, wie die Komplexität der heutigen Zeit - weil es weiß, dass solche Musik und all die Geschichten, die in ihr stecken, auch in Zukunft eine Rolle spielen werden.

In 2020 Anna Högberg put her widely celebrated band Anna Högberg Attack on hold, retraining as a nurse whilst continuing a solo practice and playing in other groups. With Ensamseglaren she makes a spectacular return with her own ensemble — this time a double sextet — performing an album length suite of new music written in dedication to her late father — the titular ‘ensamseglaren’ pictured on the LP cover as a young boy.

 (ensam in Swedish can mean both alone and lonely, seglaren = the sailor).

Shot through with renewed energy and a brutally affective emotional punch, Högberg’s formal experimentation opens up vibrant possibilities for the assembled musicians to let loose with some of their wildest and most ecstatic playing on record.

Högberg’s contention with grief leans into collective joy as method of mourning — the big band as extended family; where bonds are made through a shared experience of being together. Where everyone gets to be themselves without expectations of who they should be or what they can do. It’s a radical commitment to care — of her self and others — that animates and unifies this suite of music’s radical dynamics and variations in colour: from whisper-quiet textural intensity to harrowing distortion and double drum chaos; raucous and solemn song.

"Throughout history, humans have had different images of the transition between life and death. Imagine standing on the seashore on a summer evening and seeing a beautiful vessel being prepared for departure. The sails are hoisted. The evening breeze comes, the sails fill and the boat glides out onto the open sea. You follow it with your eyes as it heads towards the sunset. It gets smaller and smaller, until it finally disappears as a tiny dot on the horizon. Then you hear someone next to you say, ‘Now they have left us.’ Left us for what? The fact that they got smaller and smaller and finally disappeared is only how we see it. In reality, they are just as big and beautiful as when they were here, lying on the beach by our side. Just as you hear that voice say ‘Now they have left us’, there may be someone on another beach who sees them appear on the horizon, someone waiting to welcome them when they reaches their new port."

To create the score for Jurassic World Rebirth, director Gareth Edwards turned to a distinguished friend, two-time Oscar® winner Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shape of Water), who worked with Edwards on Godzilla. “I feel very fortunate to be doing the music for a movie franchise like this, which entertained me so greatly, as a filmgoer, for decades,” Desplat says. “I dreamed of writing music for movies like this since I was a teenager, and now, here I am,” he adds with a laugh, “part of Jurassic World, almost a teenager.”



Rebirth represents the second time that Desplat has stepped into a franchise and inherited and adapted iconic musical motifs written by an artist he considers his “forever idol,” the legendary John Williams: Desplat previously took on that challenge with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. “John Williams wrote a fantastic melody for Jurassic Park that I now get to reinvent, rejigger and resculpt in ways benefit our movie,” Desplat says. “My desire was not to quote John’s score bluntly but subtly echo it or make use of it in the original score I have written for the film in playful and meaningful ways.”

Brussels-based guitarist Benjamin Sauzereau is one of the most respected figures in Belgian jazz, working across the full spectrum-from elegant jazz to adventurous improvisation. You may know him from projects such as Les Chroniques de l'Inutile, Hendrik Lasure Warm Bad, Book of Air, and Fur. Over the past few years, he has written a large number of compositions under the umbrella of 'REMORQUE', performed in various line-ups-a concept somewhat reminiscent of John Zorn's Masada compositions.



These pieces share a clever and imaginative approach to composition, improvisation, and arrangement. Typically short but vibrant, they shimmer with color and atmosphere-sometimes lyrical and contemplative, other times playful, whimsical, or slightly prickly. Each piece opens up a small, self-contained universe full of nuance, refinement, and space, interpreted by musicians who navigate fluidly between classical discipline and free improvisation.



Following the first release Un on W.E.R.F. Records, Sauzereau now presents the highly anticipated follow-up: DEUX. This second chapter dives even deeper into the sonic world of REMORQUE-further refining its playful contrasts, rich textures, and poetic unpredictability. With DEUX, Sauzereau cements his reputation as a composer who continuously reshapes the boundaries between structure and freedom, offering a listening experience that is as intimate as it is exploratory.

One of the most important and prolific composers of our lifetime, Alan Silvestri (The Back To The Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump, Predator, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and so many more) rejoins the blockbuster fimmaking duo Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Endgame, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), to score their latest sci-fi epic based on the graphic novel by legendary artist Simon Stålenhag.

A Milan-born multi-instrumentalist of Venetian heritage, Alberto Baldan Bembo was a gifted vibraphonist, organist, pianist, arranger, and composer whose work bridged jazz, pop, and film music. By the early 1960s, he was performing with Italy’s leading ensembles, including I Menestrelli del Jazz and Bruno De Filippi’s group, and soon became an in-demand session musician. For several years, he toured with the legendary Mina, providing the piano and organ backbone to her live shows—a role that sharpened the cinematic sensibility and refined musicianship that would later define his soundtrack work. In the years to come, he would be celebrated for his scores to films such as L’Amica Di Mia Madre (1975) and Lingua Argento (1976), earning a place alongside Piero Umiliani, Alessandro Alessandroni, Berto Pisano, and other luminaries of Italy’s golden age of soundtrack and library music.

Io E Mara is the soundtrack to a film that was never made. Originally released on the CGD label in 1969, this debut album from the brilliant Maestro Baldan Bembo is a sophisticated concept-album tracing 24 hours in the life of two young lovers. Told entirely through music, the record unfolds as a continuous suite of ten tracks, where cinematic lounge, bossa, and jazz flavors mingle to create a dreamlike atmosphere. Sub Channels Records is proud to announce their first release, "Epic EP," featuring a collaboration between Belgium-based producer Unlisted Fanatic and Moonshine Horns.

The track "Epic" is a result of the first "post-covid" spontaneous rehearsal session. After Martin just finished building his new fast-driven 90s UK stepper riddim, Jort and Kris came to a studio, and they both felt the vibes instantly. Very quickly this turns into a recording session where they have lay down the powerful, triumphant horn line. With bouncy bass and very clever percussion layering, it's a perfect backing beat for uplifting horns.

On the flip side, EchoBoy slows down the tempo of the original recordings, transforming the melodic horns into more rootikal vibes. This, combined with hard-hitting wobs and ground-shaking subs, makes the B-side a more futuristic tune.

Ramsay Midwoods Debütalbum "Shoot Out At The OK Chinese Restaurant" erscheint erstmals auf Vinyl - über 25 Jahre nach der ursprünglichen CD-Veröffentlichung bei Glitterhouse Records im Jahr 1999. Labelchef Reinhard Holstein beschreibt das Werk als seinen persönlichen Favoriten unter rund 800 Veröffentlichungen. Midwoods Musik verbindet traditionelle amerikanische Klänge mit einer eigenwilligen, lakonischen Erzählweise. The Alien Dub Orchestra is ragtag collective of Bavarian musicians, featuring members of The Notwist and G.Rag y los hermanos Patchekos. The cohort formed around the idea of performing the standards of the fabled Breadminster Songbook, aka the back-catalogue of lone dubman Elijah Minnelli. Minnelli is known for constructing wheezy, forlorn odes to his hometown, both as highly sought-after self-released 7" singles, and a critically-acclaimed debut album, ‘Perpetual Musket’ for FatCat Records, lauded by the likes of The Guardian, The Wire, and The Quietus. ‘The Alien Dub Orchestra: Plays the Breadminster Songbook’ finds group covering Minnelli’s cumbia-infused dub reggae with full band, playing an eclectic array of instruments including: guiro, accordion, melodica, sousaphone, trumpet and assorted percussion.

The tale begins in 2022, when Minnelli was invited to lend his unique dubbing style to a pair of remixes for The Notwist, and what followed was an ever-flourishing relationship between the Breadminster native and the wider Munich scene. The seeds of the Alien Dub Orchestra were sown during a support gig for The Notwist, where assorted musicians joined Minnelli for a encore, reinterpreting one of his dub remixes across woodwind, brass and assorted percussion.

“The idea of real, competent professionals playing something you’ve muddled together on a computer in a damp basement is quite overwhelming,” reflects Minnelli on the process, “hearing them interpret and improve these melodies is a real joy and privilege.”

Despite the non-traditional origins of the source material, the inherent musicality of Minnelli’s songwriting shines through across his releases, and this creative kinship is what attracted the Orchestra to reimagining his work. The first live collaboration led to recording sessions and further gigs, with the Orchestra building a full set of Minnelli’s music.

The resulting album puts forward the strongest case yet of the shared musical throughline between the acts, where cumbia, dub and folk sensibilities coalesce to something all together unique. The tracks are wrought new, with melodies fleshed out and broader instrumentation expanding the sonic possibilities of the compositions. The tactility of the tracks is perhaps best demonstrated on the gorgeous ‘Vine and Fig Tree’, with it’s layed vocals and expressive bassline returning as a cavorting sousaphone line. Elsewhere, fan favourite ‘SLATS’ sounds as if it was simply written to be performed this way.

To further instill the cylindrical nature of these collaborations, the entire second half of the album is made up of dub versions of the Orchestra’s renditions. For these dubs, Minnelli is joined by Raimund Wong, who had caught his ear with his ambitious live sets, a daisy chain of tape machines and FX pedals. Again, despite their differing creative processes, the two bonded over a shared love of dub music. Each dub was a one-take, with Minnelli riding the faders and Wong’s filters and FX supplying a sound that doesn’t seek to imitate dub, so much as it tries to be it’s own chaotic self. The droning, psychedelic hypnosis of ‘Pundit Dub’ stretches the material to a whole new realm that feels outside of anything else Minnelli has produced before, an ode to the benefits of recycling sound if ever there was one. The whole second half is a perfect closing note to an album that is undoubtedly a love letter to folk tradition, dub ideology and, most importantly, the joy of uninhibited collaboration.
