Robin Carolan's latest soundtrack for Robert Eggers' highly anticipated Nosferatu is a haunting, gothic-infused and meticulously crafted work that draws from a vast palette of sounds, instruments, and inspirations. Following their successful collaboration on The Northman, Carolan reunites with Eggers to bring the legendary tale of Nosferatu to life, infusing the film with a score that is as complex and nuanced as the story itself. With Daniel Pioro, one of Britain's most exciting young classical musicians, at the helm as the orchestra leader and first chair for a vast majority of the recording, the soundtrack features a vast orchestration, including 60 string players, a full choir, various horns and woodwinds, a harpist, and two percussionists. Despite the grandeur of the orchestration, one of the most challenging pieces was the music box used at the film's beginning. Carolan and Eggers struggled to perfect its sound, a process marked by their meticulous attention to detail, which Carolan describes as almost telepathic. Set in the 1800s, Nosferatu allowed Carolan to incorporate contemporary instrumentation, though he made a deliberate effort to ensure the score didn't sound overly modern. Letty Stott, who also worked on The Northman, contributed ancient horns and pipes, enhancing the soundtrack's eerie atmosphere. Additionally, percussionist Paul Clarvis custom-built a toaca-like instrument for added authenticity. Carolan's inspirations for the soundtrack were as eclectic as they were profound. He frequently drew upon the works of Bartok and Coil, while films like The Innocents, Angels and Insects, and Eyes Wide Shut provided cinematic inspiration. Additionally, he explored the more obscure side of Hammer Horror soundtracks and found a deep connection to the music of the Ukrainian film The Eve of Ivan Kupalo, which helped shape the score's otherworldly tone. Carolan intentionally moved beyond the typical horror score, focusing on capturing the tale's melancholy and tragic elements while weaving in a sense of warped romanticism. The result is a soundtrack that not only complements the film but also stands on its own as a testament to Carolan's artistry and the enduring power of collaboration.

Engel, der laut Band „all die Hörbarkeit gebracht hat, die 1986 bereits hätte da sein sollen“. „Bloody Vengeance“ wurde im Laufe der Jahre mehrfach wiederveröffentlicht und war in jeder Hinsicht minderwertig, vor allem was den Sound anbelangt. Erlebe es endlich so, wie es ursprünglich gedacht war!

Doch was sagte Produzent Jasper Maekelberg, als er diese Demos einreichte? „Das kannst du besser.“ Die beiden musikalischen Seelenverwandten verbrachten darauf neun intensive Monate in einem Dachgeschossstudio in Brügge. Das Ergebnis ist das bisher aufregendste Warhaus Album.

Mit ihrer EP "To the Stars" knüpfen BEBORN BETON direkt an ihr neuntes Album "Darkness Falls Again" an. Es gibt mehr als eine Art, BEBORN BETONs neuntes Album "Darkness Falls Again" zu hören: Es lässt sich einfach nur tanzen und als zeitgenössische Synthie-Pop-Hymnen genießen, die musikalisch fest in den goldenen 80ern verankert sind - und mit einer Prise leckerer 90er-Einflüsse serviert werden. Eingängige Melodien und ausgereiftes Songwriting verbinden sich zu einer klanglichen Spritztour. Doch BEBORN BETON legen ihren Finger auch auf den Puls unserer Zeit. Das Trio spricht sich lyrisch klar gegen Frauenfeindlichkeit, sexuelle Diskriminierung und Umweltzerstörung aus. BEBORN BETON wurden 1989 von Sänger Stefan Netschio, Keyboarder und Schlagzeuger Stefan Tillmann sowie Keyboarder Michael Wagner gegründet. Die drei Deutschen setzten sich erfolgreich zum Ziel, den Synth-Pop relevant zu halten und ihn um wichtige Inhalte zu bereichern. Nach den ersten beiden regulären Alben "Tybalt" (1993) und "Concrete Ground" (1994) trafen BEBORN BETON in ihrer neuen Label-Heimat auf namhafte Acts wie WOLFSHEIM und DE/VISION. Nachdem sich die Elektro-Musiker in Deutschland fest etabliert hatten, expandierten die Drei mit dem 1996 erschienenen Album "Nightfall" ins Ausland, wo sie ebenso wie mit den folgenden Scheiben "Truth" (1997) und "Fake" (1999) bei Kritikern und Fans auf große Gegenliebe stießen. Spätestens mit dem im Jahr 2000 erschienenen Werk "Rückkehr zum Eisplaneten" hatten sich BEBORN BETON in ihrer Szene fest als Headliner positioniert und in allen Hochburgen der elektronischen Musik rund um den Globus gespielt. Doch die anstrengenden Touren und die kreativ äußerst anspruchsvolle Veröffentlichung so vieler exzellenter Alben in kurzer Folge forderten ihren Tribut. Nachdem die Band "Tales from Another World" (2002) vorgelegt hatte, worauf sie unter anderem eine ausgedehnte Konzertreise quer durch die USA absolvierte, legten BEBORN BETON eine längere Pause ein. Erst 13 Jahre später kehrten BEBORN BETON zur großen Freude und Überraschung ihrer immer noch zahlreichen Anhängerschaft mit einem neuen Album auf Dependent Records zurück. "A Worthy Compensation" (2015) wurde von allen einschlägigen Magazinen wie Sonic Seducer und Orkus mit Lob überschüttet. Da BEBORN BETON nicht in einen unerbittlichen Produktionszyklus zurückfallen wollten, nahm sich das Trio genügend Zeit, um ein weiteres Meisterwerk zu komponieren. "Darkness Falls Again" hat all die köstlichen Zutaten, die Synth-Pop so großartig machen: Eingängige Songs, die die Beine zucken lassen. Eine Prise Melancholie. Eine Dosis Ironie. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith ist eine amerikanische Komponistin, Performerin und Produzentin mit klassischer Ausbildung, die die unendlichen Möglichkeiten elektronischer Instrumente und die Beziehung zwischen Klang, Form, Farbe, Körper, Bewegung und Ausdruck erforscht. Ihre Musik ist eine Form der auditiven Interpretation, die von Neugier und ihrem Instrumentarium aus modularen, analogen und seltenen Synthesizern angetrieben wird. Joe Goddard ist nicht nur Bandmitglied bei Hot Chip und The 2 Bears, sondern auch einer der führenden britischen Produzenten, der Sounds kreiert, die sein gesamtes musikalisches Spektrum von House, Techno und Disco bis hin zu UK-Garage, R&B und Elektropop abdecken. Joe Goddard hat vor kurzem sein drittes Soloalbum Harmonics veröffentlicht.

Vinyl The project is the work of a collaborative team headed by Tommy Henriksen - veteran rock session bassist/guitarist, creative director for Alice Cooper and current member of Hollywood Vampires (Rock supergroup featuring Joe Perry, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp). Henriksen worked alongside the legendary Diamond-certified producer Mutt Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain) who emerged from retirement to executive produce the project. Combining elements of David Bowie’s apocalyptic vision, The Who’s bombastic fury, and ZZ Top’s power blues, the dynamic album boasts features from Phil Collen of Def Leppard and Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue.

French hip-hop producer Ugly Mac Beer, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, returns to his youthful passions and ventures into synth-punk production for the first time with his upcoming album titled "Broken Ill". Three decades later, he brings to fruition an album he has dreamed of making since the age of 16, adopting a "Rick Rubin style" in its creation and production.

"Broken Ill" transcends the boundaries of a typical album. It features a UK sound that seamlessly blends post-punk, electro-punk, darkwave, new wave, while still maintaining its roots in US hip-hop, with a significant touch of rap rock.

Mac Beer's influences are clearly heard throughout the album, ranging from the Beastie Boys to The Cure, and including Kraftwerk and Sleaford Mods.

In terms of collaborations, Ugly Mac Beer has enlisted a diverse array of rappers from various backgrounds. Among them is the iconic Princess Superstar, a prominent figure in the 90s underground scene, whose hit track "Perfect", released two decades ago, unexpectedly resurged on TikTok, sparking excitement and eventually securing a place on the 2024 Billboard Charts. It even underwent a remix by David Guetta himself.

Additionally, Mac Beer has teamed up with French rapper signed to Kitsuné, Mynameisleonidas, who has contributed to a significant portion of the album. Other collaborators include the singer from the French punk band Frustration and Mac Beer's longtime collaborator and friend, The Real Fake MC a.k.a OP18.

Zwei Jahre, nachdem sein Sohn Owen im August 2022 an einer Überdosis gestorben war. Das bekenntnissreiche Album ist zunächst eine Hommage an Owen, aber was Joyner hier ebenso großzügig wie berührend teilt, ist ein intimer Einblick in den Versuch, Unfassbares zu begreifen. "Wie geht es jetzt weiter?" Diese Frage hat Simon Joyner auf nahezu all seinen Alben als Ausgangspunkt seiner Songs versucht zu beantworten. Er schrieb über das menschliche Dilemma im Allgemeinen. Um schwierige Wahrheiten zu erzählen nutze er die Fiktion seiner Charaktere, die sich durch persönliche Krisen in einer unzureichenden amerikanischen Gesellschaft kämpfen. Etwas durchgängig düsteres lag über den Erzählungen, die im Wesen allerdings nie nihilistisch waren. Das Brüchige, das auch Stilmittel seiner Musik, vor allem seiner Stimme ist, war etwas, das es anzunehmen und auszuhalten galt. Um die Eingangsfrage zu beantworten, um im Leben zu Bestehen, um zu überleben, müssen wir wissen, wo wir stehen. Auf seinem neuen Album Coyote Butterfly fehlt erstmals dieser fiktive Charakter. Es ist sicher sein persönlichtes Werk. Dennoch bietet es einen universellen Aspekt und die Antwort auf Frage, wie es weiter geht, ist diesmal die Platte und der Prozess des Songwritings und der Aufnahmen selbst. Coyote Butterfly wurzelt im Schmerz des Vaters Simon Joyner über den Tod des Sohnes, der sich überraschend kurz nach Veröffentlichung seines 2022er Albums "Songs From A Stolen Guitar" ereignete. Zwei Jahre hat es gedauert, bis sich seine Trauer zu Liedern formen konnte. Joyner fand so ein Ventil für seinen Schmerz und einen Kanal, um die unzähligen Emotionen zu verarbeiten, die seine Erfahrung umkreisen. Umgeben von einer Reihe enger Freunde, darunter David Nance, James Schroeder, Kevin Donahue, Ben Brodin und Michael Krassner, ist das Album sparsam, aber nicht karg. Eingerahmt wird es von zwei field recording-artigen Instrumentals. Dazwischen setzt sich Joyner in acht Songs mit Trauer, Angst, Scham und Liebe auseinander, legt die Kämpfe derjenigen offen, die im Kielwasser einer persönlichen Katastrophe zurück bleiben. Der Hörer ist eingeladen, sich mit ihm in solch eine Situation zu denken und das eigene Herz zu öffnen. Coyote Butterfly ist eine ehrliche, somit wunderschöne Beschwörung der Trauer eines Vaters, aber auch ein universelles Zeugnis für die Liebe und für das Leben, das nach einem Verlust weitergeht.

'Oase' ist das zweite Album des in Berlin ansässigen Progressive-Rock-Kollektivs Weite, und der Nachfolger des 2023 erschienenen Debütalbums der Band. Mit einer Laufzeit von fast einer Stunde nimmt das Album die Zuhörer mit auf eine komplexe und vielschichtige Reise, die vom Pioniergeist des Psychedelic Rock der 1970er Jahre inspiriert ist und Einflüsse aus "Canterbury Scene"-Prog, Krautrock, früher Electronica, Postrock und Americana vermischt. Man möge sich hierzu nur die über 10-minütige Vorab-Single 'Roter Traum' anhören.
Das neue Album zeigt Weites Fähigkeit, das Alte mit dem Neuen zu verschmelzen und einen eindringlichen, forschenden Sound zu schaffen, der von kontemplativ und pastoral zu riffig und düster wechselt, ohne jemals die Melodie zu opfern. 'Oase' zeichnet sich durch längere, weitläufige, atmosphärische Kompositionen aus, ist aber zweifellos kompositorisch durchdachter als das Debüt der Band. Mit dem Fokus auf Melodie, Textur und Stimmung - wenn auch nicht unbedingt immer in dieser Reihenfolge - kreieren Weite einen komplexen und meditativ klingenden Sound, der den Hörer einlädt, sich auf eine Reise durch wechselnde Klanglandschaften und sich entwickelnde musikalische Erzählungen zu begeben. Weite wurde im Winter 2022 in Berlin von Bassist Ingwer Boysen (delving) gegründet, der Schlagzeuger Nick DiSalvo (Elder, delving) und die Gitarristen Michael Risberg (Elder, delving) und Ben Lubin (Lawns) rekrutierte. Ursprünglich als einmalige Aufnahmesession gedacht, erkannten die vier eine offensichtliche musikalische Chemie und Gemeinsamkeiten und beschlossen, das Projekt in eine richtige Band umzuwandeln. Keyboarder Fabien de Menou (Perilymph) kam 2024 dazu. 'Oase' ist auf 180Gr. Pink-marmorierter Doppel-LP erhältlich.

High Hopes - New album from the Mole.
High Hopes is 17 songs across 40 minutes on one slice of wax that, as advertised, sounds nothing like last month’s Ep, High Dreams. Here, rather than the long form dance form, is a continuation of the beat tape pacing from the last album, a collection of moments posing as ideas posing as a narrative stuffed with oddities and surprises that reward the close listen.
What’s heard on High Hopes is the Mole’s exploration of a love letter, from one person to a family, from the northern Pacific to the southern Atlantic, from a boy to a painted bird. Vancouver Island to Manantiales. The songs range from ambient sound bath and hip hop sludge, up to micro boogie and almost House before tumbling back down and forth again. Bubbling synths, MPCs swung out, samples chopped and chewed, bass and violins from Rick and Sophie, field recordings of birds and frogs and beaches, friends and family and fiestas. Did we mention the love ?! This album has got it all! Original collages from Antonio Carrau envelope this wax: jacket, sleeve and cookie. Antonio’s work is typified by playful combinations and bold statements about living in a embrace of analog and digital health. His co lages marry the corporeal world with an updated, digitalized age of reproduction, inducing feelings of gratitude for the simple everyday scenes we sometimes lose touch with when we forget to slow down. Good living, like breathing, requires inhaling as well as exhaling.
We can’t always produce content, make art, we must also pause, and listen. And enjoy. The Mole is joined by friends and colleagues on several songs included on High Hopes. Rick May plays bass on both Que Rico and album stand out GoinF4er. High Hopes is 17 songs across 40 minutes on one slice of wax that, as advertised, sounds nothing like last month’s Ep, High Dreams. Here, rather than the long form dance form, is a continuation of the beat tape pacing from the last album, a collection of moments posing as ideas posing as a narrative stuffed with oddities and surprises that reward the close listen.
What’s heard on High Hopes is the Mole’s exploration of a love letter, from one person to a family, from the northern Pacific to the southern Atlantic, from a boy to a painted bird. Vancouver Island to Manantiales. The songs range from ambient sound bath and hip hop sludge, up to micro boogie and almost House before tumbling back down and forth again. Bubbling synths, MPCs swung out, samples chopped and chewed, bass and violins from Rick and Sophie, field recordings of birds and frogs and beaches, friends and family and fiestas. Did we mention the love ?! This album has got it all! Original collages from Antonio Carrau envelope this wax: jacket, sleeve and cookie. Antonio’s work is typified by playful combinations and bold statements about living in a embrace of analog and digital health. His co lages marry the corporeal world with an updated, digitalized age of reproduction, inducing feelings of gratitude for the simple everyday scenes we sometimes lose touch with when we forget to slow down. Good living, like breathing, requires inhaling as well as exhaling.

Familiar waypoints - interwoven microtonal synths, regurgitated live performances, polite whispering, and the gurgling hum of vehicles (land and sea) - all fold into the perpetual stew.

Where City read like a crumpled postcard account of fraternal reportage, Richard & John is a tone poem on something more amorphous, and out of time - a garbled history of human closeness, upheaval and mark-making, that seems to buckle and creak like a tapestry with no beginning or end. Fluctuating between expansive contemporary classical arrangements and intimate layered vocal experiments, together they render these disparate forms into something distinct, melancholic and luminous.

Belinda Zhawi is a literary & sound artist based in London & Marseille, author of Small Inheritances (ignitionpress, 2018), & experiments with sound/text performance as MA.MOYO. Her work explores African diaspora research and narratives, and how art and education can be used as intersectional tools. Her literary & sound works have been featured on various platforms including The White Review, Vogue, NTS, Boiler Room & BBC Radio. She’s held residencies with Triangle-Asterides, France; Cove Park, Scotland; Serpentine Galleries; ICA London and was a Brixton House Associate Artist 2022 - 24. Belinda’s the co-founder of literary arts platform, BORN::FREE. She is working on her first full poetry collection.

Duncan Bellamy (b. Cambridge, UK, 1986) is a multidisciplinary artist based in London. His diverse practice encompasses painting, silkscreen, photography, sound and music. His work examines the shape of time, loss and our relationship to the past and present in a period of compressed transformation. He is a founding member of Mercury Prize nominated Portico Quartet, and has contributed sound work to the artist Hannah Collins audio-visual installation I Will Make Up A Song. Bellamy is working on a debut exhibition and new music.

Dutch-Surinamese multi-instrumentalist Ronald Snijders announces the release of new album Penta via Night Dreamer. A jazz heavyweight who draws Latin, Brazilian and Surinamese influences into dialogue with the electric sound of Weather Report, Snijders released four albums between 1977 and 1983 that have become holy grails of deep, forward-thinking fusion.

Recording the first album was a personal adventure with an uncertain destination. Apocalip Se embodies this feeling of conducting an internal investigation, a rediscovery from the inside out. On the new album, the image on the cover is about being open, with your hands absorbing the outside, feeling the power of nature reflected in its greatness,"" Nigro reflects.

""I always woke up at 4 a.m. to the sound of a variety of birdsongs, and I kept thinking 'what are these birds saying? Do they even think about us?'"". The artist then composed the instrumental part with his guitar and sent it to the poet Eveline Sin suggesting this theme, and she responded years later, at the time of the recording of Apocalip Se. In addition to producing for numerous well-known artists, such as Russo Passapusso, Francisco el Hombre, Curumin, and Anelis Assumpção, onalbums that have marked the history of independent Brazilian music, Zé Nigro has used his role as a singer as a long experiment in self-knowledge."

This third volume of Universal Synthesizer Interface delves further into early MIDI sequencing software for personal computers, focusing on Intelligent Music Software founded by Joel Chadabe in 1984. In a short period of time (1986-1990) Intelligent Music published a series of MIDI sequencing software titles that would have rippling effects throughout the music world: M, Jam Factory, UpBeat, MidiDraw, Ovaltune, Realtime, as well as an unreleased first version of Miller Puckette’s Max. These programs were a reflection of Chadabe’s desire to create interactive and intelligent algorithmic tools for home computers. Intelligent compositional tools had been floating around for decades in mainframe computer labs, but they had largely only been accessible to people working in academic or corporate laboratories. With the birth of Intelligent Music, these tools became available to anyone with a home studio. As the personal computers of this era had become less expensive and more accessible, they had also grown exponentially in processing power and seeming intelligence. In the music press from this time, we find the same two words used again and again to describe algorithmic computer systems: smart and intelligent. The tone of such articles may seem quaint by today’s standards, when AI and algorithmic control underpin so much of our technology, but the question of machine intelligence remains. Universal Synthesizer Interface VOL III Focuses exclusively on one of the more obscure of Intelligent Music’s software creations - UpBeat: The Intelligent Rhythm Sequencer, released in 1987, and hailed by reviewers of the time as “the world’s best drum machine.”

Flat Duo Jets: White Trees 2024 Remaster Fronted by the late Dex Romweber. The duo’s fourth album was the first album of all original material. Produced by Caleb Southern, White Trees is a Jets’ masterpiece that proved that Romweber could diversify his band’s material without losing his recklessness and urgency.

Dex passed away earlier this year on February 16th and this reissue is dedicated to his memory and legacy. Jack White from the White Stripes has called Dex and the Flat Duo Jets a major influence when starting out. White declared that seeing the Jets for the first time “opened up a whole new inspiration for me about the guitar.” And he was downright effusive in the 2006 cult-classic Romweber documentary ""Two Headed Cow"", calling Romweber “a huge influence on my music… one of the best-kept secrets of the rock & roll underground.” In 2009, White recorded a seven-inch with Romweber, and in 2011 he reissued the Jets’ long-out-of-print 1991 album Go Go Harlem Baby on his Third Man Records imprint.

These musical thoughts are torn from the fabric of Tashi"s life and music. "Strumming in opposition to the towers" (as he puts it) is part of an existence that is always political, even in its most abstract iterations - a truth laid bare in these deep, raw performances.

The "Great Escape Artist" is back! No, not THAT one - dude"s dead! We"re talking about Papa M. And HE"s talking "bout Harry Houdini - in the album title, anyway, not sure about anywhere else. we will be wherever the fires are lit, a sort of sequel to Tashi"s first DC release Stateless, takes the torch and storms forward, with ten improvised acoustic guitar anthems. These musical thoughts are torn from the fabric of Tashi"s life and music. "Strumming in opposition to the towers" (as he puts it) is part of an existence that is always political, even in its most abstract iterations - a truth laid bare in these deep, raw performances.

MC5 (Motor City Five), the legendary Detroit band. Their first single (included here) was released in 1967. In 1968 they played the infamous Democratic Convention that turned into a police riot, and they went on to be the "Official White Panther Party Band". Their manager John Sinclair became a hippie martyr, after being jailed for 10 years for 2 joints, inspiring John Lennon"s "10 For 2" song. Thrown off their first label Electra, they signed to Atlantic for 2 more albums but only achieved underground success. Now greatly revered as one of the seminal rock"n"roll bands and a huge inspiration for punk. Thunder Express documents their last and first studio works: - six tracks recorded in France at Studio Castle Herouville for a TV show in 1972; plus four tracks from their debut singles from "67 & "68. The title track is not available elsewhere. In 2024 MC5"s guitarist Wayne Kramer, drummer Dennis Thompson and manager John Sinclair all passed away, marking the end of the MC5 era.

This record is different. It is different from what might be expected of Jan Emil Mlynarski by those who know him, from sold-out shows and platinum albums of his bands – Jazz Band Młynarski – Masecki and Warsaw Dance Combo, as an old-timer, curator and reenactor of pre-World War II Warsaw's plush dancehalls and backyards folklore. Quite likely they may not recognize him until the last song, when he removes his shaman mask and bows down: Yeah, that's really me, folks, your good ol' Jan Emil, the entertainer. They might not have even known that he ever played drums because in his flagship bands, clad in a white tux in the former or in a Peaky Blinder hat in the latter, he sings and plays mandolin banjo. In fact, Młynarski has been a drummer for a lot longer than a singer. He stands clear of the jazz mainstream but is active on the progressive scene. A record he contributed to, trumpeter Tomasz Dąbrowski's 2022 release The Individual Beings, was recognized by Downbeat magazine as "excellent" and awarded the highest rating of five stars.

However, this is the first instrumental record to bear his name. As an album by a drummer, it stands out from other records, especially as it features drums as the principal content rather than the performance by a band with a drummer as the leader. It's all about drums, there is neither an articulate melody – because the melodies that are there are only micro-linesencased in ostinato modules – nor is harmony as an intentional chord progression – because whatever harmony-wise there is, is rather a product of the counterpoint of overlapping voices. All sounds other than the drums make only a riverbed through which runs a raging stream of rhythms. And indeed, this record took off just with this stream. At first all the drums were recorded live onto an analog tape, all at once, without overdubs or editing. After that, synthesizer riffs were added, and the record was ultimately assembled on tape without the use of computers or complex postproduction, which sets it apart from most releases today.

Młynarski the drummer acknowledges that he follows the trail beaten by Art Blakey, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, and Billy Higgins, but he walks it in his own strides. He treats the jazz drumming with specific reversed engineering by decompiling the jazz drum kit originally compiled by the pioneer jazz drummers from an array of instruments that had made their way from a jungle to New Orleans, first to Congo Square and then to street brass bands.

This takes him back to the jungle, his drums don't sound like jazz drums, the snare is rare, and the hi-hat and ride aren't there at all. Instead, there are drums and bells from Nigeria, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire. He doesn't sound like a jazz drummer either, but like a gang of drummers, each playing their own rhythm, and it's hard to believe that all this is the work of one man.

Not only his drumware comes from the jungle, but also the software – his approach to rhythm and time. Its essence is polyrhythm and ostinato. The polyrhythmic matters were unveiled to Młynarski and Piotr Zabrodzki, his creative partner in many projects and co-composer/producer of this album, by the legendary eccentric veteran-drummer Władysław Jagiełło, who introduced them, aged thirteen, to his concept and practice of "17 Latino rhythms at once". Ostinato, an obstinate repetition of a phrase or rhythm, "arrests" time, turning its linear course into cyclical in-place rotations. This is specific not only to African music but also to cultural music of other regions and differs from Western artistic music in that it does not "run" to fulfil an aesthetic intention but "stays" to provide the framework for recurrent routines of communal proceedings.

So, this record is different. And, if you are different too, this is the record for you.

"The Millennium Bell is the 20th record album by Mike Oldfield, originally released in 1999. The theme of the album is a reflection of different periods of human history. The album borrows its name from the dawning of the 3rd millennium and Oldfield's Tubular Bells series of albums. The Millennium performance of the latter half of the album plus some older tracks was given in Berlin, Germany on New Year's Eve 1999, with an estimated audience of 500,000 people.

Oldfield recorded the majority of the album at his home studio, Roughwood Studios, Berkshire, and then recorded the orchestrations in just one day at Abbey Road Studios, London with the London Session Orchestra. It was Oldfield's third album within one year, after Tubular Bells III in late 1998 and Guitars MOVLP1694 earlier in 1999. The album is eclectic in style, ranging from majestic choruses and soundtrack-esque orchestral passages through New Age sonic textures and ethnic sounds to strong pulse of electronic percussion. It has been remastered and expanded with four bonus tracks, features extensive liner notes and is pressed on 180g Pink Vinyl. Robert Gordon entered New York City's Plaza Sound Studio in April 1977 to record his first album. Four months later, Elvis Presley was found dead in his Memphis mansion, Graceland, at the age of 42. The media was anxious to anoint a successor to the late King of Rock and Roll, and Gordon-twelve years Presley's junior-was high atop many lists. Gordon's vocal resemblance to Elvis Presley was hard to ignore, although the singer never crossed the line into impersonation. He retained his originality and an attitude honed in New York's vibrant punk scene. In late 1978, Gordon was signed to Presley's longtime home of RCA Records. He inaugurated his label tenure with the early 1979 release of his third and perhaps finest album, Rock Billy Boogie. The power-packed LP would become a cornerstone of the so-called rockabilly revival. Four additional recordings round out this deluxe, expanded edition of Rock Billy Boogie: Gordon's 1980 cover of John Beveridge and Peter Oakman's "A Picture of You," a # 1 U.K. hit for entertainer Joe Brown in 1962; and three tracks looking back to his seminal partnership with Link Wray from the Private Stock years: "Lonesome Train (On a Lonesome Track)," "Summertime Blues," and "Red Cadillac and a Black Moustache."

This limited edition vinyl release is pressed on a 2xLP set & housed in a gatefold jacket featuring artwork from the EA archives. Dead Space is a 2023 survival horror game developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. A remake of the 2008 game of the same name developed by EA Redwood Shores, it is the first release in the Dead Space series since 2013's Dead Space 3.

Recorded by McIlroy’s long-time friend and musical associate, Big A, the songs are laden with cracked harmonies and homemade instruments, including found materials used as percussion. The pair drew on the talents of fellow travellers for backing vocals and rhythm tracks which has resulted in the live outfit expanding to a three piece, with Ben Price (bass) and Charlie Garson (drums) on board.
Commenting on the writing process McIlroy explains:
“It was written during a period of madness and adverse offending behaviours. The songs dash from one theme to another and reflect the mistaken beliefs we cling to when our perceived realities are threatened. It’s also got jokes.”
Opposing a streaming culture that values top tracks and playlists, the record is intended to be heard in one sitting, with Side A showcasing more extroverted songs, in all their loudmouth braggadocio, and Side B being more introspective and honest.

LA-based label Milkcrate Mondays has pleased many a dancer with the MCM Edits series and now the fourth volume in relatively quick succession offers more irresistible heat from a trio of talents. DJ Abel opens up with 'Dem Nah We' which is low slung hip-hop fun with raw, characterful vocals and Afro flourishes. DJ Netwerk's 'Everlasting' is a more slow motion and Balearic joint for sundown and DJ Soulcab's 'Buena' is a shuffling and dembow-infused carnival rhythm with brilliant accordion leads.

After two highly acclaimed EPs and a number of collaborations, singer, songwriter and melodist Enchantée Julia opens a new chapter in her career with ONZE, a debut album with a carefully matured groove on which she blazes a trail in France, between neo-soul intentions and R&B inflections. Or the art of grooving a French language that's not always all-terrain, of marrying a certain lyricism inherited from chanson with the rhythmic and melodic codes of contemporary soul with Anglo-Saxon roots.

Such is the promise kept by Enchantée Julia on this album, recorded between south-east France and the Noble studio in Paris - where sound engineer Clément Caritg (Luidji, Lala &ce, Lossapardo...) helped meticulously shape the sonic identity of the 11 tracks, 8 of which are produced (or co-produced) by the young and highly visible multi-instrumentalist LaBlue. With her pure, celestial voice, set against sophisticated arrangements, she recounts her most intimate emotional torments in an unvarnished yet poetic way.

As a key representative of French neo-soul with ambitious intentions, the singer, songwriter, and composer Enchantée Julia has truly made her mark on the French scene with her second EP LONGO MAÏ, released in 2022 and available on vinyl for the first time. On this cathartic yet hedonistic project, whose title is a nod to her southern origins, she collaborates with the Saint-Etienne duo Terrenoire and rapper Benjamin Epps.

Julia places even more emphasis on vocal harmonies and sophisticated arrangements, whether on upbeat, sunny tracks or delicate, intimate ballads like "MOUSSA" (produced by The Hop), a personal and sensitive ode to the one she shares her life with—a mix of cathartic song and a message of hope, referencing the tough challenges they’ve faced together. The fear of happiness and love slipping through her fingers is also present in "VÉNUS," composed and arranged by Bastien Cabezon and Oscar Emch. As the opening track of the EP, it showcases Julia’s mastery in blending the French language with neo-soul influences from across the Atlantic, laying the foundation for a unique universe that unfolds throughout the project. The second single, "PLUS FORT QUE MOI," breaks down genre barriers: Julia’s enchanting voice is wrapped in a pop-driven production with electronic hints, crafted by Terrenoire. She continues this pop momentum with "QUESTIONS," where she releases her torments—both trivial and profound—over a groove-laden production with sharp percussion, courtesy of the much sought-after Parisian producer Crayon. Julia's bewitching voice shines on the bittersweet "SOS," which bears the scars of a past relationship. On "LONGO MAÏ," a dreamy ballad with trap-inspired rhythms, Enchantée Julia invites rapper Benjamin Epps for an anthem about brighter days ahead, reminding us of the importance of familial love. To close this second EP, Julia reunites with long-time friends, brothers Théo and Raphaël Herrerias, who form the duo Terrenoire. "TOUCHER TOI" forms a diptych with the track "MOUSSA" and reveals Julia's full potential, as she shines here in a French chanson style that she has previously explored less.

Jan Anderzén - living in Tampere, Finland - is a collage artist making music, quilts, drawings, mosaics, videos and other things. From him, among a few others, sprang the The River of Finland. A stream that shook the European underground for infinity, back from the years 2005 and up. Jan is/was involved in acts like Kemialliset Ystävät, Avarus, Tomutonttu and The Anaksimandros. When in the past some of that River of Finland tasted like a fermented ocean of mycelia - today it tastes different, like sparkling water.

Halki pilvien - transl. Trough the clouds - brings exactly what one expects from the clouds. It is a collection of soft and gentle movements, as playful as a ‘Jan Anderzén type of music’ is always. A collection of patterns that solidify for just a brief moment in time, before sublimating in the back of the mind. This album is in constant motion.

Push play. A warped piano and cartoonish SFX’s might foretell a hyperreal approach to music. Yet while the champion of hyperrealism, Noah Creshevsky, describes his music as being written in a language we already understand (realism) yet in an exaggerated manner (hyper) - I have to add that things on this album do not sound exaggerated at all. Moreover, i have the feeling that somehow on this work, Jan is trying to underwhelm us. In the best possible way. Because clouds float trough and dissolve. Thus instead of hyperrealism, is Jan maybe speaking to us in a certain Serenerealism? Or Mildrealism?

What Jan’s music does have in common with Creshevsky’s is the no rush part. Listening to Halki pilvien makes time non-directional. The music seems to be designed to be played over and over again. This music has no direct impact like one can experience at a punk show, or at a classical music concert. This music is not that one gigantic raincloud covering the world dark. Quite the opposite, it is a pattern of clouds and clearings, floating over the lands. Trough this music a shadow play appears. This music is durable.

And it is when the sounds are at its faintest, that Jan touches the core: in the smallest detail, we find the fullest musical information.

Gavin Vanaelst runs the space Aboli Bibelot in Antwerp where exhibitions and musical performances can happen side to side with dealings in centuries-old furniture and unique pieces of folk art or volkskunst. Gavin makes music under the aliases DJ Charme, Kassett and So Sorry. This is the first album under his birth name. Takeaway Loops cycles back to the days when Gavin was working as a courier for .

is a food delivery company. Their couriers - ehm, brand ambassadors, as the company prefers to call them - dressed in bright orange, they race their bikes around the city. They deliver meals and groceries for all sorts. Thanks to them, the privileged can stay tucked in their private spaces. Interaction between the two groups - the privileged and the brand ambassadors - is mostly kept to the bare minimum. And sparse communications are often driven by annoyances - “my Coke is warm because you kept it too close to the French Fries.” And on the streets the general public dis-approaches the brand ambassadors with pity. We tell our peers: “That’s not a good job,” and “stay away from the Sharing Economy.” Because, you know, in our capitalistic dollhouse we all stand our grounds and play our parts wholeheartedly.

During his shifts for , Gavin recorded location sounds on his phone at fast food restaurants while waiting on the orders he had to pick up and deliver. Later in his home studio Gavin added piano and electronics to this source material. The result: a gloomy soundtrack for a shadow world. Seven songs in evening blue with a bright orange glare.

A few years ago, our favorite Belgian publishing house Het Balanseer released Seizoenarbeid by Heike Geissler (available in English trough Semiotext(e)). Geissler writes about her job at Amazon in Leipzig. Because her writing and freelance work did not pay the bills any longer, she was forced towards this underprivileged shadow-world of unwanted jobs. Seizoenarbeid shed a light on freedom in an unfree world. A monument of ‘we are all in this, but not together’. Takeaway Loops gives us a similar peak in a world that is at the same time so visible, but then also very veiled for many. A world that we prefer to use, yet that most of us prefer not to see - a world that we don’t like to enter.

Last year at Harbourland subway station in Kobe i was mesmerized by its sound design, created by Hiroshi Yoshimura. For each part of the subway station he composed a short phrase. While walking trough the station, a full composition grows in your head. The looping melodies guide you trough a microworld. Trough a blue world of commuters, of the homeless, of the lonely, of the fast paced, of the tourist. Gavin creates a similar effect with Takeaway Loops. The tonality somehow corresponds to Yoshimura’s work. Yet instead of being guided trough a building, we are now taken to the after dark. You feel the concrete evening heat of the city. You hear the rain. Stiff fingers during cold winters’ nights. You are alone on the bike, cruising. Your maps app telling you where to go. You just left the fake leather bench of the well-lit pastiche interior of a fast food restaurant.

'I was honoured to be asked to remix Dance Factor for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Roy AKA Ellis Dee was the first person in the Rave scene I met and he made the time to encourage me and believe in me and he became one of the most important DJs in the scene. Secondly, it was literally my first ever remix out of about 100. It’s a bit crazy, but back then, things were pretty crazy. I even had hair!'

This is the return collaboration by DJ Phantasy with his old DJ pal Aphrodite. Their first collab appeared on Aphrodite's label back in 1993 (repressed by Vinyl Fanatiks in 2020). These two tracks were originally recorded at Aphrodite's studio in 1994.

Born in Recife, Brazil, and currently residing in Lisbon, Sam Nóbrega is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer.Influenced by the Brazilian melodies his parents sang and listened to at home and on the radio, and driven by his love for Brazilian folk songs, street culture, and genres and movements like samba funk, forró, Ijexá, Manguebeat, and Bossa Nova, Sam embarked on a journey of musical self-discovery. In 2017, he took the stage with his first shows presenting his original music, performing at the Misturada festival in Florianópolis, southern Brazil, and at renowned venues in his hometown. However, it was in 2019 that Sam Nóbrega unveiled his debut single, "A Vida Vai e Volta," showcasing his instrumental prowess in a live video on top of a building. Subsequent releases like "Ruas Desertas," an independent release during the pandemic, demonstrated Sam's versatility.

His debut album "Ponta de Dois Lados," produced by Sam and Pedro Diniz, is slated for release by the British label Freestyle Records late November 2024. It is a rich sonic tapestry of Brazilian culture, blending traditional and popular elements with an indie and contemporary touch, creating an intriguing fusion of old and new sounds. Influences from João Donato, Marcos Valle, Milton Nascimento, Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Novos Baianos, to the Manguebeat, Tropicalismo, and Vanguarda Paulista movements.

Oase is the sophomore album from Berlin-based progressive rock collective Weite, and the follow-up to the band’s 2023 debut LP Assemblage. Clocking in at almost an hour, Oase—German for "Oasis"— takes listeners on an intricate and textured journey that draws inspiration from the pioneering spirit of 70s psychedelic rock, blending influences from “Canterbury scene” prog, Krautrock, early electronica, post rock, and Americana. The new album show cases Weite's ability to merge the old with the new, creating an immersive, exploratory sound that moves from contemplative and pastoral to riffy and doomy without ever sacrificing melody. Oase is characterized by longer expansive, atmospheric compositions yet is undoubtedly more composed than the band’s debut, with more of a focus on songs, albeit in the broader sense of the word. Not at all dangerous, but no less powerful and devoted to one another, the Coppola family have loomed large in film and the arts for decades.
The head of this particular family was not a Don lurking in the shadows, but a brilliant composer arranger and conductor: Carmine Coppola.
On the face of it, this album is a bit of a curiosity, though it was surely the first recording to bring together music from both Godfather films in this way.
Its original release coincided with a high-profile television event called The Godfather: A Novel for Television (also known as The Godfather Saga).

The extended cut necessarily featured additional music and arrangements, which were overseen by Carmine Coppola.
We can safely assume that at least some of that forms part of what is included in The Godfather Suite. For it, Coppola selected and re-arranged musical highlights from the two films,
including all of Rota’s main themes and his own source music pieces, creating what is essentially a 14-part symphonic suite.

It’s all rather beautifully executed, with great romantic flourishes, and it’s a fitting tribute to Carmine Coppola’s talent, not to mention his contribution to two legendary films.
Carmine Coppola himself passed away just months after the release of The Godfather Part III. A highlight of that final score is the ‘Love Theme’,
which was the basis of Carmine Coppola and lyricist John Bettis’s Oscar-nominated original song ‘Promise Me You’ll Remember’. The instrumental arrangement is included here in addition to the Suite.

Nosferatu (1922) is still one of the most highly regarded horror films of all time, F.W. Murnau’s unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it remains an Expressionist masterpiece of the silent era.

Much of the original score by Hans Erdmann (meant to be played live by an orchestra) was lost, leading Nosferatu to inspire several subsequent soundtracks, the best known of which is by Hammer Horror composer James Bernard, written for the Tanis Film video reissue of the film in 1997. The world premiere of the score was performed by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at the London Film Festival the same year and now, almost twenty years later, the score is being pressed on vinyl for the first time.

Quetzals are strikingly colored birds in the trogon family. Their wings are suited to camouflage under rainy conditions. The name quetzal , from the mesoamerican Nahuatl language, refers to " an upstanding plume of feathers " in terms of standing up. The origin of churros is unclear. One theory suggests the concept was brought to Europe from China by the Portuguese Another theory is that the churro was made by Spanish shepherds to substitute for fresh baked goods. Churro paste was easy to make and fry in an open fire in the mountains, where shepherds spend most of their time. Licasso is a thermodynamic sound world where colors and sounds become the same thing.

Ohne es zu ahnen, gelang Keimzeit 1990 gleich mit dem Titelsong ihres ersten Albums "Irrenhaus" ein Wendehit. Die Textzeile "...Irre ins Irrenhaus, die Schlauen ins Parlament. Selber schuld daran, wer die Zeichen der Zeit nicht erkennt..." sprach vielen jungen Menschen damals aus dem Herzen. Norbert Leisegang erinnert sich noch gut an die Aufnahmen: "Wir hatten den Luxus aus 30 Songs 12 der besten Titel auswählen zu können. Da hat uns auch keiner reingeredet, das haben wir allein entscheiden können. Dann haben wir diese Songs quasi live eingespielt. Wir wussten erst gar nicht, dass wir zu dem Zeitpunkt schon im Radio gespielt wurden. Doch dadurch, dass das eine Rundfunk-Produktion war, haben sich die Redakteure von 'DT64"gleich nach Fertigstellung schon Songs wie 'Flugzeuge ohne Räder" und 'Mama" rausgepickt." Die Hörer waren begeistert und die Resonanz durchweg positiv. Der Startschuss für das erste Keimzeit Album war gefallen. Die Songs auf "Irrenhaus" haben auch heute nichts von ihrer Aktualität verloren. Der Hofnarr zeigt uns mehr denn je, die lange Nase. Solange neue und alte Strömungen wieder zum Angriff auf humanistische Werte blasen und die eigene Kultur in Haft nehmen wollen, sind Songs wie "Irrenhaus", "Hofnarr", "Flugzeuge ohne Räder" und "Mama" mehr als klingende Zeitbilder, Mahner dafür, dass man die Freiheit nicht geschenkt bekommt. Keimzeit gab zu Beginn der Neunziger Jahre mehr als 100 Konzerte jährlich. So verwundert es nicht, dass das zweite Album "Kapitel Elf" nicht lange auf sich warten ließ. Die damaligen Manager der Westberliner Plattenfirma Hansa baten die Band nach Veröffentlichung des 1990-er Albums recht zügig wieder ins Studio. "Kapitel Elf" auf Grundlage von Titeln, die die Band damals auch schon auf der Tour spielte. So darf man "Irrenhaus" und "Kapitel Elf" durchaus als sehr verwandt betrachten. Musikalisch ist "Kapitel Elf" breiter als das Vorgänger Album aufgestellt. So werden die beiden Alben nun erstmals als ein auf 1.000 Exemplare limitiertes Doppel-Vinyl veröffentlicht.
