South Street delve into the The Sound Of Detroit from one of its unsung heroes, reissuing Amp Fiddler's 'Motor City Booty' LP on suitably swanky purple and pink vinyl respectively. Coming straight off the D Funk assembly line, it's a full on dance floor affair from Motown to P-Funk, Techno and Neo Soul.

This 12 track album produced by Amp Fiddler & Yam Who? includes the massive 'Soul Fly' sounding like a Mark Ronson production had he been hanging out with George Clinton's Parlet followed by the bonafide P-Funk anthem 'Steppin' both featuring the stunning vocals by the Dames Brown girls.




Amp Fiddler is credited for taking both a young J Dilla and also Q-Tip under his wing teaching them his Akai MPC techniques, setting the path for some of Hip Hop's finest recordings which have defined the shape of things to come.

His musical collaborations & current duties include: Moodymann's musical maestro, keyboard wizard for Theo Parrish's live band, a longstanding Funkadelic member, co-writer for Sly & Robbie, Prince, Maxwell, Jamiroquai & Seal to name a few.

Small Great Tunes Vol.1 is varied and offers a traveling DJ multiple vibes to choose from. The energy on this new record takes off within the few first bars. The opening track "Sport Casino" by Kid Simius introduces a lighthearted mood and 80s synthesizers.

Peter LC's "Sogni D'infanzia" is very likely to become the next lofi-house classic on disco dancefloors around the world. Dreamy and melancholic but groovy nevertheless.

The B1 track “Kamal”, a collab between David Silver & Luca Olivotto is a tasty house mood. The tune features a powerful and groovy bassline and sparkling synth leads all accompanied by rhythmic piano chords. B2 is similar to A2 in the way that it's also a lofi-house track with nostalgic moods and careful sound design.
With each side of the record featuring both a sunnier and a moodier track, the EP is a perfect fit for summer sets in a heated club or leisurely listening sessions on late afternoons enticing the listener to let go and bringing back memories that have yet to be created.

Orlando Voorn is one of the first European musicians to establish a vital link with Detroit, and since the end of the 80s has proven himself as one of the most original and inventive producers of electronic music. It’s an understatement to say we’re honoured to have him on Burek’s 20th release.

LJKOC is the debut release from Mitch Erwin's latest project featuring Vernon Reid (Living Colour) on guitar and the vocal stylings of Tito Love.

Mitch Erwin/Mitch Race was quite the man about town in the 80s, producing records for labels like Supertronics, 25 West and Sutra Records (amongst others). Best known for a track on Jump Street's seminal 'Welcome to the Club' LP and the Dub mix of Up Front's 'Infatuation', Mitch draws from the spirit of NYC's past while injecting a modern feel into this unique single. In some ways it sounds like a forgotten master tape recently unearthed from the basement of a long closed studio, in others a current R+B producer trying out a few analog synths while doing his best Robert Owens impression.

This dreamy, heartfelt low BPM stomper is served two ways. The 'Guitar Aficionado Pop Mix' takes the listener on a celestial journey through the clouds while the 'Funk DeFacto RNB Mix' brings a more straightforward club vibe for heating things up early in the night. The message is clear. Love just keeps on coming!

Jennifer Touch - a name that most likely will ring various bells in the ears of those who have been monitoring the recent proceedings within the Riotvan camp. Just remember her vocal refinement of the New World EP and her (still newsworthy) contribution to the - Familiar Faces No.1' label compilation. After a collaborative EP with Keinemusik's own Adam Port, released on Pets Recordings, her time has come for an ultimate declaration of independence.

Acclaimed Russian producer, DJ and live musician Kito Jempere is back with a stunning second album, this time on Italian label Hell Yeah. Entitled Sea Monster and due for release in early 2017, the nine track album is a fantastic fusion of live instrumentation and electronic production.

Kito Jempere is a musical polymath. The Russian artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader has been involved in many projects over the last ten years plus. These range from rock to acid jazz to electronic bands and often call upon a rotating cast of other members who are all equally talented.

From playing in small bars to headlining big shows for thousands of people in Saint Petersburg, he has put out a number of albums and singles on labels like Freerange, Room With A View and Hell Yeah and DJs around Europe.

Jempere plays live as the Kito Jempere Band, and here he calls upon his bandmates for their many skills to lend the album a richly musical feel.

Mixed and co-produced by band member Roman Urazov, the album features Artemiy Gunbin aka Noteless, the voice of the Kito Jempere Band and front man of his own rock band Videatape, as well as Ruslan Gadzhimuradov, a long time drummer on many projects, plus Matvey Averin, the bassist but also co-producer for cult group Manizha and finally Sergey Lipsky who here plays guitar and is also half of Simple Symmetry as well as having played for Kito's other project Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club group.

Sea Monster kicks off with Lifetime Theme, a heavenly groove with loose drums and percussion and gorgeous keys. Form there, Artemiy Gunbin's ethereal and crystal clear vocals take centre stage amongst balearic guitars on album single 'Ampa', and then 'To Talk' is a deeper cut with bumpy drums, long tailed pads and shiny synths all making for a curious and whimsical atmosphere.

'Grid Cells' is a lush instrumental track with clever revel and echo adding a sense of grandeur to the freeform jazz drums and frazzled synths, 'Uohha' is as sunny and laid back as an afternoon on the beach and 'Puzzled' then layers up scuzzy basslines, popping hits and suspenseful synths into something smooth and seductive.

The final third of the album closes out with blissful guitar licks, lazy broken beats and brilliant drum playing that all have you wishing it was summer again.

This is an album with elements of jazz, house, disco, balearic and many more sounds all smoothly blended into one coherent and captivating album full of soul and musical skill.

Reprise! One Swallow Doesn’t Make A Summer Part 2 is the follow up to a Various Artists sampler for a hypothetical mixtape (still hasn’t been made). This time, the international cast consists of (in order of appearance): Llewellyn, Fred Asquith, John Noseda and Lipelis X AC. The plot: Dance music in its broadest and loosest form and at its best without too many sub-genre flags. „Synergy Bar“ by Llewellyn is the starting point. An ode to a well-known place in Berlin, it was conceived there as well as floor-tested by DJ GJ and oozes that special Sunday sweat from every single pore. Fittingly, „Please Hold The Line“ by Yogtze follows next. Remixed by Fred Asquith purely because he thought he had too, it puts party make-up on the originals pretty face. Flip around for John Noseda’s power house trip „Spiral Galaxy“. Imagine a New Romantic cover band being mangled by an Acid House (the philosophy, not the 303) DJ. Last but not least, „Central Store“ by Lipelis X AC closes this chapter, with some bittersweet heartbreak rave in very slow motion. Cry, dance, cry some more, but don’t stop dancing!

... Next up for 'Spaziale Recordings', one of the most sought-after Arabic disco records, A. Mislayene, 'El Fen' finally gets a long awaited fully official remastered reissue, original copies of which sell for close to £300. This 12" was only issued in seriously limited quantities on the tiny Stip records label out of France in 1976.

Sought for the chuggy exotic rhythms of the B side 'El Fen' at long last this eastern-influenced disco masterpiece is available to those who don't happen to have a spare £500! Aït Meslayene was a Kabyle traditional singer who moved to Paris to try his luck.

He was driven by an Algerian manager who pushed him to make a "disco" album, a new trend at that time. The recording found place in a studio near Paris, with an American drummer from the funk group "Ice". For 'SPZ002', Viaggio Recordings head honcho Stefano Ritteri steps up to provide an exquisite “Versione Spaziale” of 'El Fen' on the A side, with the original version and 'Yemma' taking the flip.

Dynamic Dublin-duo Boots & Kats get given the keys to the House of Disco channelling an Italo Disco rave of interplanetary proportions for HOD028. Three pure peak-time pumping Italo warpers, complete with an exquisite Johannes Albert’s Party Talk remix to round off the package.

Fists in the air business in a far-away planet, one where synthesisers rule the lands using colossal kicks and huge snares to enhance the power of their all-encompassing arps that range from rapid fire bass to gargantuan top lines. Johannes Albert then throws in some party chatter and deft sampling to his reworking of ‘Party Talk’ completing this futuristic capsule of interstellar goodness.

It’s the best of that ‘80s Italo sound given a modern take that harnesses Boots & Kats’ unbridled Irish energy.

OK, so the scoop, for the uninitiated is this - the Peech Boys were Larry Levan's group, we're talking early 80's NYC here, 1982 to be precise, around the height of the Paradise Garage as Larry was making the transition from superstar DJ to producer. He brought a sparse, dubbed out, narcotic late night feel to the overall sound of this record. This was a short-lived project, but the influence is still felt today, the Peech Boys DNA is inside the veins of modern dance music, as is Larry's. There is no underestimating what an impact this record had. 7+ minutes of electronic bliss, trailblazing stuff, and don't get us started on the dub. Do yourself a favour, BUY this classic if you don't own it already, you'll keep coming back to it time and time again. Guaranteed. This essential 12" is repressed here in it's original 1979 glory, an essential classic that has stood the test of time for the last 30+ years & is now available again, remastered & repressed for 2017 in conjunction with West End Records, NYC.

Pressed with love by Mother Tongue in Italy, it will be the best homage we can have to uphold their legacy in music.

Legendary DJ Daniele Baldelli, who was resident at the infamous Cosmic Club on Lake Garda and pioneer of the 'cosmic' sound, joins forces with Italian maestro DJ Rocca and takes File Under Disco on a journey into outer Disco space.
Famous as an extremely eclectic and open-minded DJ, here Baldelli transports this approach to the production of 'Funkynoizer'.
And in the hands of a master producer like Rocca the result is a track which fuses Dub, Afro, Disco and electronic elements seamlessly into a tasty alternative discoid brew.
Remix action comes from Brasilian duo Selvagem (big fans of Baldelli) whose reputation grows and grows with every spin of each record and every release that passes through their talented hands. Here they dress the original in leopard skin pants and throw into into an all night, outdoor carnival party where anything goes.Next up Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco take the original on a heads down Disco trip and work it to the bone.
Live driving bass, funky clav and a glorious piano line do a wonky waltz with the the Afro dub essentials of the original.

Dutch duo Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, better known as Dam Swindle, are the latest in a line of decorated contemporary producers taking on rework duties for legendary New York disco label, Salsoul Records. Comprised of four tracks split into two volumes, the pair provide fresh takes on a number of Salsoul hits, including the classic ‘Let No Man Put Asunder’ by First Choice and Double Exposure’s ‘Everyman’. There’s some funky edits of tracks by Kebekelektrik and Kongas, wrapping up an essential Reworks package courtesy of one dance music’s premier acts.

More than 2 years after his great remix of Atnarko's Solid Ground, we finally have the debut EP from Nacho Marco on Lazy Days. Nacho is a good friend and collaborator or ours. He runs his Loudeast label out of Valencia in Spain. He recently released a Frederico Y Alvaro EP (Fred Everything and Al Velilla). A prolific producer/remixer, Nacho keeps his hands busy in the studio with countless releases on labels like Freerange, Muak, Pacha & Om Records to name but a few. On this EP, Nacho showcases 2 sides of his production. Motion, with its slower tempo, flirts with the world of Deep Disco while The Right Key takes us back to basic House with its early Detroit Techno influence.
On the remix, our old friend Mazi (Audio Soul Project) delivers a Chez Damier influenced groove, taking elements of the original and bringing an old warehouse vibe to it. During Blitzzega’s live concerts there is always that one guy, a big fan, jumping and dancing to the music while shouting and cursing: “Play fucking DISCO fuckers!!!”. So this was the main inspiration for Blitzzega’s next album ‘DISCO-5H-DMT’. It’s more light, accessible and more danceable than its predecessor ‘Highlight Reel’, more focus on the disco backbeat, but the slow kind, the Belgian kind.
5-HO-DMT is Bufotenine, it’s that stuff Blitzzega wants you to lick off a psychoactive toad before you enter that disco-moshpit.

Since 2000 Blitzzega is the electronic playground of Antwerp based musician Bjorn Eriksson, who is rather known for his work with other
bands like: Eriksson Delcroix, The Partchesz, Maxon Blewitt, Zita Swoon, and as a filmcomposer for the movie ‘The Broken Circle Breakdown‘.
He was raised with American folkmusic and bluegrass, but as a kid he fell in love with New Beat music. Especially the more explicit kind,
like Karen Finley’s ‘Belgian Waffles’ or Lords Of Acid’s ‘I sit on Acid’.

Matter & Time is Romanski's second EP on the Wonder Music label. It is a diverse journey of Iranian melody quotes, analog synthesizer arpeggios, tropical disco adventures and vocoder-based vocal interventions. Romanski does not adhere to a uniform scheme of tempo and rhythm. And so melodic slow techno (Mara Beboos), unusually edgy metre (Matter & Time), sprightly disco house (Hombre Sincero) and a laid-back afterhour vocal number (Ammaring) come together on this record. All of these facets are combined in a lively and spacey atmosphere with elaborate rhythm and sound textures that make Romanski's recognizable sound.

Essential repress of stunning 1977 Disco-soul rarity, written, produced and arranged by the incredible team of Norman Connors, Reggie Lucas and James Mtume. Vitamin E, a a short-lived group that yielded only 2 singles and one long player during their time certainly knew who to work with in the studio. 'Kiss Away' is an absolute belter, raw and raunchy Funk riffing gives way to some ultra smooth, grown-up stepping Soul awash with some stellar string arrangements. This one is definitely for the dancers, it simply glides along with the utmost class and sophistication, an incredibly uplifting and funky cut that features here in it's 1977 special disco version guise as per the original Buddah Records release. On the flip is a cool cover of Neil Sedaka's 1974 hit 'Laughter In The Rain' - a sweet version, no doubt, but the real winner is the stellar A-side. Reissued, remastered and re-presented for 2018 by Above Board distribution - 100% legit and licensed.

After putting out Kito Jempere's well received Sea Monsters album last year, Hell Yeah now serve up another selection of remixes of it. Accomplished musician Jimi Tenor, plus Miskotom and Max Essa all contribute before a 7", also taken from the album, lands later in summer. First up is Jimi Tenor, the legndary Finnish musician who has released on Warp, collaborated with Tony Allen and has his own band as well as occasionally playing sax with Kito Jempere Band at live gigs. He flips Puzzled into five minutes of stripped back and moody electronics with plenty of his own flute playing in the track. Busted drum sounds, spooky sci-fi synths and scattered hits make it woozy and late night and utterly absorbing. Miskotom—a newly emerging pair made up of Mik and his wife Andra, both based in Vilnius, Lithuania with credits on Pleasure Unit and Balearic —then reimagine 'Ampa' as a beatdown but of deep house with trudging drums staying low and shimmering synths drift out in all directions. Crunchy hits bring a subtle sense of funk and reverb drenched vocals bring a heavenly feel to the soul drenched grooves and summery keys.
Then comes Max Essa, the Japan based Brit who is a regular on this label as well as the likes of Is It Balearic. His first remix is a huge one that is sure to soundtrack many a boat party this summer. It's a gorgeous rework of 'Ampa' that puts achingly blissful vocals front and centre as low slung bass and slowly turning drums sink you into a pan-pipe laced reverie. Secondly, Essa offers a Dub Reprise that removes the vocals and places all the focus on his churning drums and new age grooves.
This is another perfect package of masterfully electronic horizontal sounds.

Roberto Ferrante, now president and founder of Planet Records Group, wrote "Come On Closer" at the age of 18 and "Eyes" and "Faces" by Clio before he was 20. All the songs were entirely created, arranged, mixed and played "by hand" by him, in 1983 the computer had not yet arrived in the recording studios and Ferrante did not have the money to buy a sequencer! "Come On Closer", a classic of Italo-dance were played in Chicago by top deejays who created House Music in the 80s as Mickey Oliver and Ralphi Rosario. This track was played in all clubs and at Chicago Radio Station WBMX by the legendary D.J.s Hot Mix 5, and still today is a very "sought song" by collectors and fans who consider this piece one of the best and clearest examples of proto-house, also used as Sample/Cover by various international productions (Peter Visti/Kenneth Bager "Besos", Neon Indian's "Psychic Chasms", Moulinex "Come On Closer") and used for Tom Ford's US promotional campaign in 2015. The 12" proposes the two original versions: the vocal version by Douglas Roop (an American marine stationed at the NATO base in Naples in those years) and the dub version, both re-mastered in June 2020 by Roberto Ferrante himself in his studios at La Habana, Cuba.
Nobody should be surprised that high energy and Italian-disco were popular in Chicago: house music was in its embryonic phase, so it wasn't competing with Hi-Energy in 1983. This repress edition (without remix) was made with superior sound quality. This sound is present, alive... and still dominating in all clubs!

Welcome reisssue for monster soul-funk LP 'Disconnection', one of the most obscure and sought-after releases from top 70s disco label, Prelude. Ridiculously expensive and hard-to-find in the original, this album is stuffed full with killer tracks spanning warm, soulful disco, high-stepping groove and boogie-heavy funk all written and produced by Robert Holmes. Standouts include the jazzy free-style 'Dead On The Case', later reworked for the mysterious French Skyline project, cool jazz-funk groover 'Bay City', recently edited by none other than Balearic maestro Lexx, and the floor-friendly chunky funk workout 'Cash Money'. However no track is a filler on this superb album which fully deserves its 'holy grail' status with collectors. Essential!

Remastered & Remixed versions of the ‘Quare Groove’ classic first released on the group's own Feral Records imprint in Ireland in 1985. Originally inspired by Con O Laoghaire,s trip to Carnival in Trinidad ‘where a woman told me she would see me later at a fete when she was looking ‘Hot and Sexable’’. This is the full vocal version sung by Denise Keogh. As well as this extended club mix of the original, the set feature three other versions. All are reimagined by Morgan Buckley (Wah Wah Wino / No 'Label') using source stems from the original 1985 master lacquer and multitrack tapes courtesy of Windmill Lane Studios.

Parisian producer and DJ S3A has been releasing his take on soul-infused, sample heavy electronic music over the past decade via imprints such as Syncrophone’s Phonogramme, Lazare Hoche Records, 4Lux and Dirt Crew where he dropped his debut album. Here after the success of his debut LP ‘Pages’ and the ‘92’ Anthem’ track, which featured on the inaugural Collective Cuts release alongside music from Asquith, KETTAMA and 9th House, S3A returns to the imprint to conclude the story of his half acoustic half electronic album with the ‘« Pages » Epilogue’ EP.

Following on from his stellar record store day 2017 double-pack, Dimitri is back with another clutch of indispensable Disco edits from his impressive archive for the legendary Salsoul label. Any self-respecting DJ or Disco-lover will be brimming over with excitement upon looking at this impressive selection of tracks, all respectfully and lovingly tweaked by Disco-Dim. Salsoul Orchestra's 'Ooh I Love It (Love Break)' kicks things off, a true blue classic, just gently touched in all the right places and extended in the best possible way. Following up is Skyy's total anthem 'First Time Around', a classic Garage groove and Dimitri's version is near perfect, again, re-touched by someone who truly understands what Disco all about! Essential stuff. On the flipside The Jammers - 'Be Mine Tonight', is another massive Garage smasher, here Dimitri almost edges Shep Pettibone's OG mix into the Boogie stratosphere, just incredible! It makes perfect sense that this amazing double-pack should finish on one of Dimitri's most sought after edits - Love Committee's 'Just As Long As I Got You', an epic slab of soulful, almost dark, Disco. Official Reissue on 7" of the as rare as sought after Electro Funk/Boogie 1984 release by Penguin Feet The Teardrop Kid.

In recent years disco has made a huge comeback as a genre ranging from the output of classic artists like Donna Summer to obscure gems released across the world from America to Africa.

Hey Disco! was originally recorded and pressed up on 1979 for Josef Weinbergers Programme Music imprint that made contemporary music available for use on radio, film and TV. This cracking collection of disco dance grooves was pressed in a limited run and was not commercially available. All of the tracks were written by Trevor Bastow and performed by a crack unit of top session musicians. Unlike many library albums Hey Disco! had a cohesive feel from beginning to end.

The music on Hey Disco! was only known to specialist library collectors and disco lovers but began to attract interest when the sleeve was featured in the expanded reprint of Jonny Trunk’s 2005 The Music Library book in 2016. In the same year the Big Deal! Weinberger Funk Library 1975-1979 collection featured two tracks - Integration and Hydrogene – from Hey Disco! Integration was an amazing electronic instrumental that had echoes of the sequenced heaven of Donna Summer’s I Feel Love and Hydrogene was an infectious beat driven piece of music. Listeners raved about the tracks and wanted more.

As Hey Disco! was not available digitally, interest amongst disco fans and library collectors who wanted to hear the entire album remained unsatisfied - unless you could get your hands on a rare original copy of the LP. Like, many long established and well run music libraries Josef Weinberger is still thriving today – as JW Media – so Ian Shirley of OM Swagger was able to licence the album for reissue directly from them.
The tracks were re-mastered from the original tapes by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering who, as always, has done an amazing job.

Bastow’s original compositions on Hey Disco! have a wonderful flow on both sides of the LP. Tracks like Final Destination, Sunset West, Count Off, Sidewalk and Disco Hoedown are as funky as hell and it is a pleasure to allow fans of library and disco music to be get their hands on this lost gem penned by Bastow who sadly went to the big disco in the sky in 2000 at the age of 55.

With the insatiable appetite for his Lovehrtz EPs, alongside Richy Ahmed, causing sell outs as soon as they’re dropped, Jansons brings his bumping, tech house style to Revival. Exquisitely looping up vocal samples, swirling guitar riffs and sweeping strings in ‘Heartbreaker’, Jansons creates a blissful, slice of ecstasy that will be sure to melt more than a few hearts, minds, and souls.

The vinyl only ‘Alternative Mix’ takes things deeper, chopping and filtering the vocal snippets with a nod to early 2000’s house whilst letting that rapturous bass line take centre stage.

Dark Entries is humbled to continue digging through the archives of legendary producer Patrick Cowley. While best known for his production on chart-topping cybernetic disco anthems such as Sylvester’s “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” or his own “Menergy”, Cowley, who passed away from AIDS-related illness in 1982, left us with a substantial body of work. Since 2009, Dark Entries has been working with Cowley’s friends and family to shed light on the lesser known facets of this singular artist’s output. This has resulted in a string of celebrated archival albums, including Catholic (featuring Jorge Socarras), School Daze, Muscle Up, Afternooners, and the recent Mechanical Fantasy Box. Some Funkettes, the latest addition to this series, is a collection of previously unreleased cover songs recorded from 1975-1977. These raw, unembellished tributes both showcase Cowley’s early musical interests and chart the development of his production techniques.

Some Funkettes opens with Cowley’s sauntering instrumental rendition of “Do It Anyway You Wanna”, the disco classic by People’s Choice. Next is a psychedelic reworking of the Temptations’ “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, here hazily retitled “Papa Wuzza Rollinston”. Over its 7 minute runtime, the track’s metronomic, minimal groove builds to a frantic synth solo - this is pure Bay Area motorik. “Spiked Punch”, a curious riff on Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon” follows. Cowley’s lurching, minimalist reimagining of Hancock’s opus prefigures the work he would later do on Sylvester’s masterpiece “I Need Somebody to Love Tonight”. Side B opens with a truly important historical document: Cowley’s cover of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”. The Moroder-produced disco anthem was a critical influence on Cowley - he would later resculpt the original song into arguably its highest form with his 15-minute-long remix. The instrumental cover version here is sparse and euphoric, brimming with classic Cowley synth signatures alongside the infectious Moroder bassline. A relatively faithful take on Bazuka’s 1975 funk classic “Dynomite” follows. The record closes with the dub version of “Spiked Punch”, which highlights developments in Cowley’s recording and synthesis techniques by way of its resonant burbles and spring reverb-laden passages.

Some Funkettes was made possible with help from Patrick's brother Jim and his former studiomate Maurice Tani. All songs were mastered for vinyl by George Horn. The sleeve is a collage designed in 1975 by Cowley’s former roommate Francesca Rosa that was found covering a reel to reel box. It features a yin-yang symbol and a photograph of a scruffy 24 year old Patrick, to which we added his original handwriting. Each record comes with an insert featuring a four page essay by Francesca as well as a postcard featuring liner notes and a photograph by Cowley’s roommate and best friend, Theresa McGinley. Vocal versions of “Papa Wuzza Rollingston” and “Do It Anyway You Wanna” are included as bonus tracks on the digital and CD releases. This peek into Cowley’s formative years arrives just in time for what would have been his 70th birthday.

Doing everything they can to pull you out of that groundhog day slump, House of Disco draft in Sound Support, a new project from Dam Swindle’s Lars Dales and long-time collaborator Lorenz Rhode, to work their wonders.

‘Clavi On The Rocks’ is all about the keys. From the emotive chords to the goosebump-giving basslines and Stevie-in-space clavinet mastery, it’s an electro-boogie whirlwind sure to give a hyperboost to any misfiring start to the year.

Next up, ‘Thesaurus Sex’ is some serious sci-fi through your hi-fi, melding punchy bass synths with funked-out stabs, soaring synthwork and a roaming-robo vox.

Piloting over to the B side, ‘Super Elevation’ hits with modulating acidic arps, hard-hitting bass rumbles and galactic melodies before taking you into another dimension with the kind of eyes closed, classic pianos that will reignite the optimism in any wavering heart.

Closing it out, ‘Enduro’ has Sound Support laying vintage loops under buzzed-out basslines and that sure-fire clav goodness, over-driven into the high heavens. Add in a healthy dose of echoing keys, fizzing toplines and space echo claps and it’s closer of epic proportions.

Bent is one of the most seminal 90s duos in all of electronic music. After more than a decade and a half out of the game, the quirky outfit is back and has a whole album's worth of new music ready to go. First though, we're treated to this new package of remixes of one of their singles. Enduring UK champ Ashley Beedle goes first with a nice groove that captures lazy afternoon summer vibes perfectly. As you'd expect, Crazy P layer in cosmic rays of melody while the ever excellent Nail goes for a rollin deep house version with ear worm pads and vocals. The Somethin' Sanctified mix is for when you head indoors and begin to get down on the 'floor.

BEST005 begins with “Time of Lovers”, a delicate house take based on Japanese chopped samples. A2 is the very energetic and funky “Untitled (Versione Veloce)”, turning a synthpop song into a fast ghetto house tune. B-side continues the ghetto feeling (but with a romantic r’n’b touch) with “Ankileichen Part 1”, then goes dirty with “Soul Mayo”, a mix between jazzy piano riffs and hard beats. Last track “Baerdz” gives a deep and subtle end to the EP, with harp glissandi invoquing bird flight. As always with the label, some funky locked grooves complete this limited vinyl only release, mastered & cut by legendary Simon Davey from The Exchange.

Hot on the heels of what is proving to be one of the EP’s of the year in Funk Purpose Volume 3 Samosa Records keep their 2020 heat going with everyone’s favourite work-a-holic Greek disco missionary C.Da Afro.

He’s a producer with disco and house flowing through his veins and is back with another monster of an EP here.

Featuring three tracks of divine disco infused with sultry Latin flavours it’s a beautifully balanced release. First up is the eponymous title track in Afro-Disiac. This one is deep groove and brass heavy house. The expressive bass groove lays the foundation for some stellar brass stabs and solos galore with some wonderful guitar licks keeping the track fresh and funky through-out. It’s a track for those wonderfully warm summers’ days when we have nothing more to worry about than to dance in the Ibizan sun.

Next up is Smoothie a deeper but no less groove infused track. Again packed to the hilt with some wonderful brass work, it’s another Latin edged track with a hooky vocal which grabs you by the scruff of the neck and bounces you all the way to the middle of the throng on the dance-floor. Solid percussion work keeps the energy levels deceptively high here. A seriously smooth track indeed!

Closing the EP out co-label boss De Gama goes to work on the edit of Brazilian Groove. This one is a track which originally popped up on C.Da Afro’s Expresso EP on Samosa a year ago and went on to be a huge DJ favourite across the rest of the year. Giving it a slightly tougher feel De Gama has kept all the best moments of the original intact adding in extra percussion and a heavier kit to take it straight to the main room. A solid rework which will give this one strong legs to see it through another year.

A wonderful EP all round yet again for both Samosa and C.Da Afro and another one that is going to fly when it hits the shelves so make sure you get on that pre-order sharpish.
