Va¨stkransen Records are proud to release the debut EP of Stockholm's house savants HK. The main project of Hampus Ribbing and Kristoffer Banks, HK have garnered attention for their dynamic and unpredictable live sets. Having spent five years in the studio engineering their deep and mesmerizing grooves, the duo now surfaces with 'A Kind of Love EP', featuring three original tracks and a remix from French wunderkind and D.KO head Flabaire.

On the A-side, HK begins with the melancholic but captivating 'A Kind of Love'. The duo then goes deeper on the hypnotizing, yet dancefloor-oriented, 'Hiccup'. On the flipside, Flabaire presents a dreamy and jazz-inspired remix of 'A Kind of Love', after which HK sums up the EP with 'Angry Bird', a percussion-infused take on the rougher deep house sound.

- Upward Bound' is a long lost, incredibly rare and very expensive classic disco era album! It combines soul, funk with and slick pop appeal into a great cocktail of grooves and melodies! This will drive you to the dancefloor and make you sing along at the same time! The lush arrangements, tight grooves and powerful soul vocals with catchy harmonies make this album an instant evergreen. I'm least surprised that the arrangements should pose a challenge to every rhythm section and that the catchy melodies instantly stick to the listener. The flashing horn arrangements are amazing! The funky bass grooves and guitar riffs weave a cocoon of sound around your soul. The sound is certainly clean but also vivid and the music feels grounded despite it's larger than life expression. The swirling backing vocals in combination with the lead singer are the icing on the cake that already consists of catchy and outstanding songs. This is more funk and soul than simple disco music. There is depth in the arrangements with awesome details as you delve deeper into each single track. You can of course groove along and just enjoy the songs as they are, but be sure to at least be on the lookout for the beautiful ornaments in each song. London producer-duo, Wayward, are back after blowing us away with their marvelous "Good Afternoon Mr Magpie" EP. Wayward have a knack for bridging the gap between the dancefloor and the more soulful side of electronic music, with support across the radio airwaves from the likes of Giles Peterson on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, KCRW, Beats In Space and Rinse FM.
Wayward's most recent release, the "Green Lanes" EP is another milestone for the rising duo. The EP opener 'Green Lanes' (co-written with London producer Books) is a dance floor ready tune with a hypnotic bassline and the perfect amount of cowbell. 'Maxi Love' brings the disco heat with an edit of a timeless classic, reinterpreted for late night escapades. Fulgeance aka Claude has been making music from all sides of the electronical spectrum under various aliases for over a decade, releasing on labels such as Musique Large, Ed Banger and Nowadays to name a few.

This is the fourth release under his Claude moniker, which he uses for his more uptempo endeavours. A1 is for Future, an uplifting track that combines warm Wurlitzer chords and disco breaks with deep SE1 basslines. Duke Hugh's mid-tempo boogie influenced remix is ideal for the summer or to bring the summer back when it's not around.

The B-side brings you All Right. Things get a bit deeper and darker here. R&S Records' the Maghreban delivers a tropical take on the original with with heavy broken percussion and afro beat sounding synths.

Italian Dodi Palese is a helpless vinyl addict: if it sounds good, he buys it. Collecting for most of his life, he soaks up anything he can then uses these records to speak to his audience in whatever way suits. Growing up with a father who ran a radio station is what installed this eclectic ethic in him, and it set him in good stead from the off.

For many years Dodi was core resident at Casablanca (RIP) in Southern Italy, where he would often spread his musical wings through funk, jazz, soul, afro, disco, house and techno for up to eight hours a night. It was an important learning curve that means he is now able to take a dance floor's hand and lead it on an unpredictable and rewarding journey through sound that defies the usual categorisations.

In the studio, Dodi focusses on following his instincts and getting lost in the moment: he makes music designed for dancing, and music that veers from afro-funky house to deep and supple minimal techno for the late night hours. It is slick, original stuff with real feeling imbued in the compelling grooves. Dodi also curates his own two labels What Ever Not, together with Dan Mela, and Engrave LTD, with Musumeci. They naturally have a broad outlook that takes in raw four-four, afro, electro and techno, and call upon a mix of artists who are well established as well as hot rising stars.

The party starts with a tripped out tribute to an Italian inspiration. 'C60 Lato A' sees the crew pluck a couple of killers off a well worn Cosmic tape, leave them out in the sun a little too long then stick them back together with an experimental blend of UHU and fufu. Springy bass, spangled brass and mangled electronics make for a motherlode of funk, fried just long enough to make the walls melt. Bendy....

Over on the B-side the crew come through with a little bath-salt boogie, pitched down and loved up for all the slow dancers and romancers out there.
Strutting like a stoned fox, 'Get Serious' wraps rubber-limbed bass around propulsive percussion, gets hooky with the horns then slaps you silly with its x-rated synth-smut.
Pinched from the pound bin and taped over a CH 5 classic, this disco drooler will loosen up even the stickiest floors.

The very first release of 2018 from Eureka!, is the well known Parisian sampling master S3A (Sampling As An Art) with his perfect definition between underground quality emotional house music and dancefloor efficiency.
He released from Lazare House Records, Hold Youth, Concrete Music, Local Talk, Phonogramme and Faces and with his background culture based on a solid knowledge of house music, soul, funk made him one of the most promising house artist of the French scene.

Mountain Charr contains 3 tracks in completely different styles. 'Doop Doop' is definitely a sound of S3A, with characteristic vocal cut up by adding powerful horn section and melodic piano loop.
'Emotional M1' is classic yet warm and cosy low deep groove track that is playable regardless of a time or place, from lounge to dancefloor.
To complete the package we have 'Denials', a more down tempo offering, but its melody is fascinating and yes, sexy.

On this third delivery from AM Records the A-side is reserved for two disco edits by grandmaster Loud-E and new kid on the block Baerlz from Paris. Here's Jonny is a pushy synthetic track build from Claudia Barry's Open the Door and Dis-Le-Mewa is a sweet Bollywood rework, fine-tuned to sound nice on heavy club systems. 06AM contains three Turkish and one fake Turkish edit. They sound quite traditional but they all have a psychedelic electronic or percussive edge which makes them worth stretching a bit. Afrobot presents two edits of quite under the radar folky tracks, Matt Moroder delivered a pretty unknown sexy disco slow burner and the fourth track is an instrumental Oriental sounding break beat rock track, which is actually from Germany, like the mysterious Potentiometer himself. Everybody Dance... A bonafide dancefloor invitation, this classic cut by Chain Reaction was originally released in 1980 on the P&P affiliate label, Sound Of New York. A project between keyboardist Dwight Brewster (of The Imperials) and percussionist Harold Sargent (of Wood, Brass & Steel fame) Dance Freak provides one finest moments in the entire catalog. A funky disco track with all the elements of a party anthem, it's no surprise it's been a favorite of veteran Deejays like Kenny Dope and Danny Krivit.

There are many reasons why this track is a must-have for Disco DJs. Outstanding percussions; check. Funky Guitar & Bass lines; check. Catchy chorus; check. Brass accents; very welcomed. Using a synth as a percussive instrument; incredible and most likely lifted from the Patrick Adams Handbook 'How to make a hit record'. There really isn't much more we can say here. We 'just wanna Dance with you...'

tim jones, also known as Preacherman and recorded under midi man, ironing Board Band and t.j. hustler. he made one very rare lp, and two even rarer cD's. these tracks are from the cD's. he was a salesman for iBm in Las Vegas, where he sold selectric t ypewriters and then word processors during the day and at night he would perform in the Las Vegas lounges. he was somewhat of an engineer and adapted a hammond B3 organ to play a moog synth with some of the organ keys, (some still played the organ),
and he adapted the organ's foot controlled bass levers to play two moog synth bass pedals (a failed item moog made for a few years.) thinking he wasn't much of a live performer he had a wooden puppet made that he named t.j hustler, and together with the puppet, he would engage in long philosophical soliloquies, (some of which are featured on this album).if you meet tim, he is not someone who stops talking. in fact he even created a little book called universal Philosophy. he has a lot to say about everything. currently he lives with his 103 year old mother in
Oakland. there he infrequently plays shows on his casio where he fashions himself a live Karaoke performer, who comes complete with 5 wireless mics and P.a. and a list of about a 100 songs he can play. his invented organ contraption and puppet are in storage in Las Vegas, and he seems intensely
uninterested in getting them out, as 'the kids these days want to hear the sounds the casio makes.'

Dutch artists Machinegewehr and Ayden Vice team up to bring that timeless retro Italo vibe with Moroder inspired bass arpeggiation, mysterious vocals and epic pads.

On the B side, San Francisco based Dutch artist, Yobkiss, offers up a masterful remix taking the track into darker electro territory. His offering includes beautifully haunting Japanese vocals by the producer's long time collaborator Yuko Araki for exceptional exotiqueness.

Early 80's balearic Italian Disco solid release from the classic Bolognian Band Aid, not to be confused for Bob & Midge & co. Daniele Baldelli the producer now has nothing to envy about Daniele Baldelli, the DJ. This is demonstrated by the authoritativeness of the first two 12's of six in the series "Cosmic Temple' on the Mondo Groove label. What first strikes the eye are the covers, with fluorescent colors, which will form a patchwork created by Aldo Drudi (the designer of Valentino Rossi), a large mosaic that interprets garish aesthetics/logoa Cosmic. But immediately after the music takes the stage, 3 tracks in "Chapter 1" and 3 tracks in "Chapter 2", are able to tell the true mood of the imaginary Baldelli's sound and take them to a land of wonders. Numbers like Thyratron, with Ricky Burattini (Justofunk) on the floor, playing a utopian fusion as if Peter Daou was weaned at Cosmic in Lazise (Italy) instead of the Paradise Garage in New York, or Inner Light, Francesca Amati with the voice, which is pure 2015 electro-pop, the rhythmic bass on Diffrazione and the phrasing of Zircaloy, and still that yin and yang that composed Krebs Cycle, with Burattini on synth, a race horse deep disco at 120 bpm that goes into stratospheres, and Afelio, a lethargic space ballet at 90 bpm...

We're happy to welcome back Harry Wolfman for a full record after his fine collaborative 'Square Lane' EP with Loz Goddard last year. Here he delves into the leftfield side of house, this dreamy 5-tracker. Toronto's Jesse Futerman joins us for the remix fresh from his debut releases on Church and Omena. This is an odd one, a jazz disco thing from the mid 70's, the producer Art Polhemus is actually more a rock producer and this track sticks out like a sore thumb in his discography.

Peter Godwin who wrote this was in the band Metro and then went on to write and produce a lot of 80's new wave in France and across Europe, the original is definitely a guilty pleasure, both Dr Love and Laura Ingalls are closet Italo fans and even though this is from Belgium it bares all the cheesy Italo stigmata: big synths, big drums, english vocals with a bad accent!

When The Mainstream Turned Its Back On Disco In The Early '80s, It Allowed Dance Music To Once Again Choose Its Own Path. As An Artist, Arthur Russell Routinely Chose The Paths Less Travelled. The Original Male Vocal Mix True To Rusells Vision, Is An Organic Piece That Recreated The Atmosphere Of David Mancuso's Loft. The Story Goes That The Recording Sessions Ocurred During A Full Moon And Included Individuals That Would Often Party At The Loft. An Excersize In Creating A Vibe, The Male Version Of The Song Reflects The Complexity Of Russell's Arrangements And A Maximalist Wall Of Sound That Would Become A Signature Component In His Dance Productions.
Although The Record Recieved Some Crital Acclaim, It Wasn't Initially A Commercial Success. That Came In A Little Later When Famed Dj Remixed The Song
Without Permission From The Label. According To Some, Larry Levan Snuck In To The West End's Offices To borrow' The Multi-tracks To Make An Edit For Himself To Play At The Paradise Garage (also Owned By West End's Mel Cheren). After Getting Positive Feedback At The Club, Larry Decided To Properly Remix It With The Aid Of Francois K (who Opted Not To Be Credited Because Of His Contract With Prelude). Larry Levan's Remix Now Known As The female Vocal Mix' Although More Structured, Is Still Pretty Out There. Melvina Woods, A Dancer From The Loft, Slurs And Misses Notes As If Her Own Loose Joints Were Dusted, But The Animalistic Groove Is So Undeniably In-the-pocket That This Actually Got Local Radio Play Back In The Day And Remains In Constant Cult Club Rotation Today. Of The Two Versions, Larry's Mix Is The One That Went On To Influence Early Chicago House Djs Who Over The Years Have Sampled And Those Exact Same Drums Countless Times. Now That Is Some Real Freaky Stuff.

The first release on Tava Discs arrives courtesy of label-founder Beigean, confidently establishing their remit of discovering and showcasing charismatic house and techno from a gritty, DIY perspective. Influenced by a diverse joyful musical upbringing of East Coast hip-hop, turn of the millennium tribal techno, UK bass, Punjabi folk and Bollywood disco, each of the four tracks on Beigean's EP flawlessly but daringly weave each of these specific musical avenues into hyper-specific and utterly physical tapestries of sound, road-tested and engineered to turn open-minded dancefloors outside of their heads.

The record's unrelenting focus on groove is immediately established by a vintage disco bassline on Baat, one that's suddenly submerged in reverb and reintroduced with a stuttering, echo-laden female vocal chop, one of many elements cribbed from the vast, all-vinyl Bollywood soundtrack archive of Beigean's father. Here, these audience-pleasing chorus lines are respectfully blended with a very different purpose, building to a memorable disco climax and stitched together with an authentic reel-to-reel appeal. On Kyaa, a punchy, admirably bouncy bassline rides another obscure musical number, one that's soon buried under a cresting wave of acidic feedback, creating a weightless moment of sensory rave pleasure from the most unexpected of sources.

Beginning the reverse trip, 'Geet' takes things in a tougher, trippier and more percussive direction, constantly pushing and pulling tension built around corresponding male and female vocal samples. Here, a tough UK attitude immediately makes its presence known in the hard-hitting drum work, playfully offset by grandiose and grainy interjections from the vintage peak of Indian cinema. The EP concludes with 'Mein', arguably the more uncompromising and dense moment of the record, creating a constantly unfolding and kinetic distillation of Beigean's notable influences, and delivering each transformed through layers of reverb and distortion, then uplifted by a cosmic, Buchla-like synth interjection.

Rooted in a cross-generational and cross-cultural heritage specific to UK dance and rave culture, Beigean's debut EP announces a new talent with an irresistible perspective.

"This music was made over a year and a half period, while i was losing my father to cancer. I don't usually work with concepts, and certainly didnt have one in mind making this, but with something this heavy as the backdrop it had to be an influence, especially since my musical gift came from him. This I am only truly realising now.

The drums and vocals were added later. Dan Walsh from Fixity and others in Cork played the drums. The vocals are by an Italian singer based in Galway, Barbara Vulso.

This is the third album under my own name, having worked with aliases for albums since 2012. It was always going to be so, and again I now realise that given the personal nature of the project it could only be that way, though i didn't know or question why at the time"

Aaro DiCosta EP is a debut for both the artist himself and the record label Elossa Records. Elossa Records is a record label ran by Helsinki based DJ Marc Fred. Focusing on music with positive power - feel good dance music without strict genre restrictions. Aaro DiCosta is a long time producer with deep roots in funk, boogie and disco. Aaro DiCosta EP contains 4 melodic and powerful tracks for early mornings and late night shifts. An edition of 300 copies.

Walter Gibbons, a true master of the mix, a disco legend, a pioneer of dance music. There's literally very few who can lay claim to progressing the artform of studio mixing and technique than the late Gibbons. His contribution to contemporary music cannot be understated, first as a DJ where his drum laced experimentation captured the ears and minds of his peers and the dancers, then later as a mixer and studio genius where he continued on his quest. Often fixated on the percussion and breaks within records his versions would often dive into spaced out, dubby and stripped back territory that very few of his peers were even contemplating at that time, fervently reconstructing the tracks themselves and often the time, space and dancefloor within which the record was being played. A true original, Gibbons was behind many of the 'definitive' versions of the classics, his unique style often catapulting records that were just fine in their original form into brand new colourful, cosmic interpretations that flourished sonically and rhythmically with brand new sounds that bristled with vision.

Salsoul Records thought a well programmed and thought out retrospective of this legends output was in order and this incredible collection of tracks is where we find ourselves. A stellar compilation across 2 heavyweight slabs of wax featuring of some of Gibbons' finest works. Included you'll find genre defining cuts like his mixes of Double Exposure, Loleatta Holloway, Love Committee, First Choice and many more.

A truly essential package for the die-hard Disco aficionado or for those who are exploring this most important movement in dance music for the first time. 'Splashdown' encapsulates perfectly the weird and wonderful imagination of Italo productions - sci-fi synthwork that ventures beyond this dimension.The Ben Norman track on the B1 has a more straight up disco feel to it but those vocals maintain an ethereal italo aura. Completing this special 4 tracker is the obscure 'T.C. Radiation'.....that talk box guitar solo will melt any minds it's put in front of!

Another italo-disco and proto-house classic that inspired the early house movement. Heavily played in Chicago now reissued in the right form including the unreleased dub version mixed by the legendary dj Tony Carrasco !

This is a long overdue reissue of a fantastic album! Here we find a pure disco classic from the US scene of the late 70s. The original copies retail at plus $300, that's only if you can find one at all! So those who love to spin good music, but are unwilling or unable to lay down too much money can now lend an ear to this fine vinyl! The opening track is 6.5 minutes long and consists of ongoing grooves with a hint of rock thanks to the melodic lead guitar. The driving rhythms are irresistible with soulful and strong female lead vocals that capture you right away. This reminds me strongly of the lengthy Donna summer dance classic, released during the same period 'Better than walking out' which became a dance floor sweeper. There is nothing complicated here, just sheer groove interwoven with catchy melodies. 'Lovin' you is so easy' follows and is a mid-paced soul anthem that comes as clean, slick and close to pop music a tune can come, but the melody of the chorus will stick to your mind. The arrangements are tight revealing several layers of instrumentation on second take. The lead singer's expressive voice matches with the best of its genre. A grand dame of soul familiar to a wide audience. While we ruminate about the different stylistic ingredients of this album we reach ''Woman', an entire instrumental with a straight groovy beat paired by cool funky rhythm guitar that lies beneath a soundscape made by the electric piano. Both seem to interact tightly and communicate with another. This tune just moves you physically with ease. Lushly orchestrated ''Our love is special' turns out to be a wonderful soul pop anthem of the kind that stays with you when you have only enjoyed it once. I'm almost certain that most fans of the late 70's soulful dance and pop will spin this record over and over again. This is what the DISCO LADIES are made for. Their music has this certain disco feeling but the classic 60s Motown Soul roots are so obvious and keep the whole collection of songs so grounded, that the music will go straight to the heart, nestling there for a long time. ''I second that emotion' is again a mid-paced groover that has this fluttering beat with great instrumental figures build upon this footing. One might hear elements of reggae, gospel and funk melting into an utterly joyful soul pop tune that eventually would become an evergreen in the clubs. Last but not least we are treated to ''Woman', again the arrangements of lead and backing vocals are amazing! These are footed by equally amazing strings and horns. These melodies, soulful, expressive, intense and full of joy! The last tune is a vocal version of 'Woman'. Definitely being the highlight of the entire album and a worthy finale for a record that sticks out of the masses of disco music productions of it's era! All this makes a wonderful and delightful reissue ! worthy of joining every black music aficionado of the 1970s.

Every DJ needs their 'secret weapons' - those handfuls of killer versions or re-fixes, the classics reimagined by shadowy figures who know exactly what needs to be added (or subtracted) from well known or obscure tracks. These activities have long been a staple of the Disco world, think Francois K's incredible early 80's collages, Danny Krivit's DJ specials, Larry Levan's acetate-only special mixes - these are the things of dance music legend. Salsoul is a label that isn't afraid to embrace the new generation of contemporary producers who continue to be inspired by their genre defining catalogue, often drafting in the hottest underground names to rework the classics much to the delight of the newly initiated listener and the hardcore fan. Here we have such a project, a split 12" from 2 new school producers who have turned in some top shelf reworkings of Salsoul jams - German DJ and producer Phonk D gives us a bumpin' version of First Choice jam 'I Can Show You (Better Than I Can Tell You)' which was originally the B-side to 'Breakaway' in 1980. Taking the best parts and teasing them over almost 7 minutes of funk Phonk D crafts an essential dance-floor tool that will certainly get spin in any discerning dance. Over on the flip is a remix of 2 parts from Delphi. Usually making up on half of the infamous Tiger & Woods Delphi steps out on his own and drops a heavyweight version of The Salsoul Orchestra's early 80's Boogie jammer 'Take Some Time Out For Love'. Again, this is a respectful and tasteful take on an underground classic and Delphi adds just the right amount of special seasoning to make this one an all-out bomb! Having been road-tested thoroughly by Tiger & Woods in their DJ sets we can safely say these 2 new mixes hit the right spot for sure. All in all, some essential, fresh and exciting reworks that bring a new slant to the Salsoul catalogue that will undoubtedly have you dancing your ass off!

Harlem's legendary Disco label Queen Constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades.

One of many labels operating under the equally legendary P&P family of imprints Queen Constance was operated by one Peter Brown, a truly colossal figure in NYC's music scene, it's catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. Covering a wide range of styles including Gospel, early Rap and Disco the label's output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected DJ's and selectors across the globe. High Fidelity will be the first in a series of Queen Constance rarities to be reissued, an extremely rare and coveted record that can change hands on the second hand market for big big money, avoid those low rent bootlegs that are out there and cop this fully licensed repress.

The group's self-titled sole long-player is a fantastic 6 track set of gritty, soulful and uplifting funky Disco with a DIY edge. Not too much is known about the artists themselves, or even when the record was performed, recorded or released but it certainly sounds like a group who knew their craft inside out. The energy is high across the record and the group sound like they're on fire, just check the outrageously funkified 'Magic Carpet' and you'll see what we mean. Amazing. The whole project has that enchanting lo-fi, back-street feel to it in terms of production and the mind boggles as to how such a record would have come off had it been recorded at a Motown or any other 'big' studio, but no matter as this release is perfect the way it is, an essential piece of street-level NYC Disco straight from the underground.
