After the grand success of Brother's 'Hidden Depths' LP last year & Madmen & Poets 'Scandinavian Sunday' early 2010 Fokuz stumbled upon another hidden talent. Hailing from a unusual place is Command Strange.. He is probably Kazakhstan's first dnb producer at the moment. Yet not bound by borders or boundaries it's the music what counts here at Fokuz and Command Strange is seriously one of those producers who you'll need to keep your eye on.

For the jubilee of the 10th release on Questo, labelhead Francesco Ballato brings together some friends of the close environment for a „Various Artist“ compilation on vinyl and digtal. Mandibula, Stoga, Senoo and Bee Lincoln in collaboration with Francesco represent diverse aspects and musical components. which unite groove, melody and danceabilty for maximum enjoyment.
Side A1 features a cooperation of long-term groove brothers Francesco Ballato and Bee Lincoln. „Daddys Choice“ was born in a jam session and re-edited to serve a full bass load on a summerlicious track. Smart percussion pattern give a nice fluff as a compensation to slant and humorous synth sounds, embedded on positive sphere vibes.
Senoo, who already released on labels like Tzinah Rec., Baile Musik or Whoyostro, comes up with the title „Baby loves Sour Diesel“. An incredibly groovin’ tightness pairs with a deep flowin’ sphere and makes this track super-functional on the floor.
Flip the side and here we go with Stoga, who is in charge for the latest release on Questo. „Arrived“ is a warm-shakin’ and well-tempered tune with a theme-like melodic synth. Ready for open airs.
Freiburg-based Heimatliebe artist Mandibula takes over the warmth and adds a slightly driving rhythm in „Feeling Frenzy“. Known for his affinity in sound aesthetics of generating moods with synth-based elements, he does what he can do the best: an extraordinarily intense and mind-blowing tune for the clubs.

Adam Strömstedt's debut album features 11 tracks of elegant chords and softcore acid basslines that instantly fit perfectly into the KANN universe.
The LP as a whole works excellently with slippers and morning coffee, while individual tracks definitely also aiming at the dancefloor. Although more reminiscent of a very life affirming sunrise party than a 90s rave in Sheffield. Please check out the opening track "SWF" or "Desperate Housevibes" for further reference.

The story of each re-release begins with the original. In the late 90s, Uwe Zahn (Arovane), along with Robert Henke (Monolake) and Stefan Betke (Pole), began releasing music on Torsten Pröfrock’s (Dynamo) newly launched DIN label. This was a very inconspicuous undertaking, but fans of the flourishing IDM, glitch, and constantly evolving abstract techno genres quickly picked up on the quality of sound coming out of Germany. After a few successful EPs, Zahn began working on his debut full-length, Atol Scrap. The release was a success, at least in the underground circles, where followers of the melodic harmonies, stuttering off-beat rhythms, and, most importantly, advanced sound design feverishly consumed the imprint’s output. There was only one thing missing – the album was never pressed on vinyl, and for decades remained in the digital domain. The fans, of course, inquired. There were multiple offers on the table, but Zahn retained control until he was assured that it was properly attained. “I thought of taking everything into my own hands and releasing the record myself,” says Zahn, “but at the end of last year, Matthias from Keplar asked me to re-release Atol Scrap on vinyl.” The label and its owner revolve in the Morr Music universe, and so it made sense for Zahn to trust the platform to treat the record right.
Listening to Atol Scrap over twenty years later it is inane not to admit how well it has held up. Where other genres clearly aged, becoming stale, bland, and dull, the music on eleven tasty tracks still keeps the neurons tickled with each note. More than an echo of the past, the bottled sound truly has matured. Many of the newly evolving techniques are recognizable on the album. “I created the digital artifacts with a digital multi-track recorder, the Fostex D80,” recalls Zahn. “The thing had a scrub wheel with which I could achieve wonderful glitch effects by winding through the audio data. I have sampled and further processed these artifacts.” And this approach is still embedded in Zahn’s sound design. “I still use my 24-track analog desk from Tascam to mix my audio. I love to use hardware synths and samplers. I’ve definitely built upon my studio experience in the 90s.” From this debut to the most recent output, Arovane’s sound has evolved to become more intricate, detailed, and pronounced. “My music has become much quieter and much slower. But that’s probably also due to the noise in the world.” And just as Atol Scrap reminds Zahn of the past, retaining charm preserved in a container traveling through time, it also jitters memories of long ago, when we were twenty years younger, less experienced, and bold. For me, among the many records of the time, this album held a special place in life, my heart, and many CD boxes moved across the world. And now I’m only happy to restock the vinyl space, where Atol Scrap belongs among the beloved records. Welcome home. - Mike Lazarev
Remastered and cut to vinyl by Kassian Troyer @ D&M. Cover art by Jim Kühnel based on a photograph by Uwe Zahn.

Arranged at the border of Dub and Progressive, this EP intones a relationship between the old and new like a chess game. Featuring a 3 tracker belonging to Greek mastermind: Mikael Delta and label boss: Kirill Matveev with an undeniable timeless quality. This is for sure one of Mixcult’s finest crafted and most important releases up to date, bringing home an eternal classic and two new “gems to be” themes.
Side A brings one of the most expected releases ever for Mixcult Records. This unreleased anthem appeared as a mysterious track on Hernan Cattaneo’s “Sequential” compilation, back in 2006. The track “Baboo” in which Mikael Delta exteriorizes a florid, unidiomatic and over polite form of language through sounds comes out as a highlight of fine-crafted, ahead of time progressive house cut. The unfazed pads, slow drip loops and profound voices of this peace are just an exceptional and sophisticated soundscape.
Side B1 features Kirill Matveev’s “Citron” which can be the cherry on the sundae for a peaktime house display. The track includes experimented arpeggios with some tweeked out acid sounds that layer perfectly with his signature dubby basslines.
Side B2 has a very heartfelt and ethereal theme, which can result as the perfect ending. “Pegasus Himself” by Kirill Matveev looks for the memorability and becomes the perfect tool to finish a night with the proper melodies.

Burnski's Instinct label serves up some fresh platters from a new name, Papa Nugs. These are of course naughty as you like garage tinged late night gems for cosy dance floors. Opener 'Gemini' is a high speed affair with exotic strings and neck-snapping hits. 'Kilo of Filo' is a super heavy wobbler with a fat as fuck bottom end oscillation. 'De Nata' closes out on more super crisp breakbeats that recall the genres hey day when artists like Ali B were knocking out killer mixes for Fabric. All killer no filler, as ever with this label.

Van Bonn & Upwellings join forces to showcase journeys of different moods and styles of dub techno on their new ep called Cloudwalker. The opening Cloudwalker Dub is moving in between the triangle of dubby stories told in Bristol, Copenhagen and Vienna. Harmonious, bass heavy and with a special attention to the little something. Bridging is raw and deep. It sucks you in and the harmonies tickle on your skin during a sunrise on a mysty morning. The following Dilated Spaces is reduced to its bare minimum and proofs that when you go deep and minimal, there is always the possibility to go even deeper and reduce the elements even further. Up next is Deepchord co-founder Mike Schommer who directs his remix of Bilateral Kite in moody and texture rich territories conducted by a straight forward kick and dubbed out fx. King Cry Cry is a personal reminiscence to the big soul of the originators of dub.

'Enande mane' is Evigt Morker's first release for Northern Electronics since his artful debut album, 'Krona.' The fizzy bliss of melancholia's brutal truths have rarely been explored this thoroughly by Evigt Morker until now. Paris-based producer Alexandre Bazin returns to Umor Rex with another side to his music approach. If in Full Moon (Umor Rex 2016) he explored the analog electronic music merged with classical minimalism, in this new work, Bazin dives into totally rhythmic terrains while maintaining his devotion to electronic exploration and acoustic drums. Four Steps even rubs shoulders without discretion with techno music and the dancefloor, and retains his refined obsession with melody and structure.
In these pieces, Bazin lends space to electronic soundscapes, experimentation, and computer programming, everything derived from precise compositions. With melodies created with Buchla Music Easel, EMS Synthi, among other instruments, Four Steps –through the drone and ambient music– crosses roads with elegant and infinite techno loops. The album is a 4 track EP released in vinyl 12" in 45 rpm, finely mastered by John Tejada with a focal point in harmonics and dimension, offering an exquisite hi-fidelity experience even for the digital lossless audience.
Alexandre Bazin has been a member of the France GRM (Groupe de Recherches Musicales) since 2005.
Composed & mixed by Alexandre Bazin at Château Rouge. Drums in Four Steps III by François Desmoulins. Mastered by John Tejada in Sherman Oaks. Artwork & photos by Daniel Castrejón in Mexico City.

With a title such as Passage17, we can rest assured that Reeko wants to take us somewhere, into the depths of something. He wants us to know this long road is rife with a variety of sensations, but more than anything this new release is a journey into something more important that is yet to come. If we want to get there, we must first travel this road.
'Passage17.1' lets darkness and atmos take the centre stage, as is customary for this producer. As we proceed in to the track we discover a subtle but hypnotic melody that shapes it and gives it great force. Perfect for the dance floor!
'Passage17.2' is a display of organic sounds and rhythm where a powerful bass line dominates our own heartbeats. There are no hard kicks, although we don't miss them; all those in attendance at the floor are on their toes, hoping to find out what comes next. Hypnotic, mental and with a fiery soul, this track makes you face this journey with mounting interest.
'Passage17.3' brings back a vigorous kick and keeps curiosity up with whips and organic sounds expertly arranged, as well as filters that open and close, and accentuate this piece's rhythm.
With 'Passage17.4' we reach our destination: a place where dreams come true. A powerful but intermittent melody that guides our steps with the help of relaxing pads makes the end of our trip both intense but relaxing. Hard feat to achieve!
Release number 17 of Reeko's own label Mental Disorder sets out the way this producer and his label are going to follow. We've always had plenty of mystery from MD, but now they want you to go ever deeper into uncharted territory

Anyone who knows Soul Intent's music will know he loves to dig into the hardcore, rave and jungle archives. Now he's taking it a step further by launching Dope Plates, the second sub-label to his Lossless Music imprint. Expect early 90s influenced Drum & Bass and Jungle, drawing from the foundations set by legendary labels such as Metalheadz, Reinforced, Moving Shadow and Good Looking. As for the logo (yes we know it's awesome) it was designed by Art Jazz from Genaside II... see, we really went in on this!
The Hammersmith Flyover track starts with fresh organic acoustic elements and continues to throw them in the right spots throughout the whole track, being accompanied by constantly evolving melodies and synths aswell as smooth, intricate percussions.
The B-side brings Paul Agripa on remix duties. Warm and soothing synths are triggered in the track’s first breaths since the sound of it presents a more deephouse approach. Later on, the swingy, playful hats come along in carefully chosen times, defining the track’s final build.
Early support by Tulbure and Nu Zau.

The new collaborative project between Deborah Jordan and K15 explores the concept of our own humanity while attempting to address what does in fact make each of us human. While the inspired pairing of revered singer and songwriter, Deborah Jordan, alongside the boundless versatility of producer and musician K15 (Kieron Ifill) for a whole album seems too good to be true, this is actually a project that each of their respective roads have been converging towards for years.
The songs throughout ‘Human’ beautifully embrace the array of styles that both Jordan and Ifill have become attributed to – from the brilliant Culross Close-esque production of album opener ‘Running’ to the twinges of broken beat found in ‘Innervision’ and the more acoustic, piano-driven tracks like ‘Change’. The masterful production is both sparse and intricate affording Jordan’s typically incredible vocal the appropriate space to explore these sonic soundscapes in her own inimitable way while expressing those very characteristics about our own humanity.

After recent success stories on OFF Recordings, Play it Down and our SVT100 compilation, Marlon Hoffstadt teams up with vocalist HRRSN for a first EP on Stil vor Talent, 'Skin And Bone'. Together, they present a musical, soulful style of deep house that mixes classic song writing with dancefloor sweat. The stunning title track opens the A-side with melancholic piano keys and a subtle beat over which HRRSN's memorable voice literally explodes. Beautifully understated and highly addictive! Following 'Once Again', with which many will be familiar from our recent compilation, 'I'm Losing You' then ups the tempo. Here, an elastic bass-line and elevating synth pads nestle around HRRSN's R'n'B vox. On the B-side, Oliver Koletzki and Diynamic's H.O.S.H. find themselves on remix duties. While Koletzki beefs up 'Once Again', H.O.S.H. takes things into a darker direction on his mesmerising reinterpretation of 'Skin And Bone'. Lastly, Marlon Hoffstadt & HRRSN collaborate with rapper Focus The Truth. The result An old-school hip-hop track that makes for a surprising finish to an incredibly convincing EP. One of the most requested vocals to Mungo's HiFi's recent Antidote Dub LP was Solo Banton's unreleased A side to Pulsating Dub. Naturally, Mungo's have obliged, pairing both cuts on one monster of a seven-inch that will invite heavy equal needle traffic on each side. Over a liver-quivering drum-and-bass heartbeat skank, Solo gives a Raggamuffin statement of lyrically murderous intent. The rhythm track was recorded by engineering maestro Prince Fatty at his much-missed Ironworks studio space in Brighton. A modern classic in the truest sense of the words. Miss this at your peril.

Hold tight, this one packs a serious Funk punch! Bristol beatsmith X-Ray Ted returns with 'Doin' My Thing', an up-tempo testament to his ethos of creating something modern out of something old. Emphasising the fun of Funk, the rolling breaks provide the foundation for sublime horn hooks, flute, and THAT infectious vocal which stays with the listener long after the track has ended. Equally at home in a club, house party, or even the radio, it could be X-Ray Ted's strongest outing to date, showcasing why he has been picking up continued support from Craig Charles, BBC Radio, and more. Over on the flip, 'Tribute To The Original Artform' is a Cut 'n' Paste masterclass, tipping its hat to a classic track and a scene that continues to influence X-Ray Ted's approach to music. Another outstanding 7 in the ongoing Bombstrikes series of 'Bombs'.
