Following a stellar run of recent releases including best-of-year EPs from the likes of DJ Plead and DJ JM, Nervous Horizon are back with their first record of 2020 — a unique new collaborative EP by object blue and label co-head, TSVI. Out on September 25th, ‘Hyperaesthesia’ details four sweltering new club tracks — described by the pair as “body music” — that mesh together object blue’s widescreen, experimental club tones and TSVI’s borderless percussive styles. “I was curious to see how TSVI and I could merge our sounds, whether we could supplement each other without eclipsing one another, and I'm so happy with the result”, explains object blue. “I never thought I could write with somebody else but this happened so easily. It's been a liberating process, just a pure pursuit of fun, yelling in our chairs when we dropped the beat.” Inspired by ‘ever-present conversations about machines and sentience’, the EP’s mechanical crux plays out in the narrative of the tracks too; from a sense of machines ‘waking up’ on near 8-minute opener ‘Thought Experiment’ to the frantic, processing energy of ‘Turing Machine’. The record also comes complete with a special remix by Loraine James and vinyl-only bonus track, ‘Syntax’. ‘Hyperaesthesia’ follows a fruitful 12 months for both object blue and TSVI: Following the release of her breakthrough debut EP, ‘Do You Plan To End A Siege?’, for Tobago Tracks back in 2018, object blue has since become one of dance music’s most crucial new artists. As well as releasing her third, critically acclaimed EP last summer (‘FIGURE BESIDE ME’), she’s turned in remixes for everyone from Murlo to Seb Wildblood, been invited to record a BBC R1 guest mix for Benji B and performed live at Paris Fashion Week, after composing the music for Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood SS20. object blue was also announced a SHAPE artist for 2020 earlier this year, alongside artists like Afrodeutsche, Rian Treanor, Jay Glass Dubs, Oli XL and more. TSVI’s upward trajectory shows no sign of slowing down either. From the release of his enchanting debut album ‘Inner Worlds’ in 2018, he’s since gone on to put out a series of game-changing records under his Anunaku moniker for both Nic Tasker’s AD93 label and Martyn’s 3024 imprint, including July’s ‘032’ — a joint EP written with DJ Plead. Alongside fellow co-heads Wallwork and Federico Ciampolini, he’s also overseen the rise of Nervous Horizon since the label’s inception in 2015, moulding it into of the UK’s trailblazing new-school dance labels.

DJ Sotofett's double 7" album "Noldus" is a peculiar twist and travel. During 13 tracks & 27 min. it's compact and generous, short yet long, with a playback format that doesn't invite space of attentiveness to be left. Featuring Jaakko Eino Kalevi on drums, Tuomas Toivonen on synth & DJ Sotofett on vocals its recorded in a Helsinki Sauna, on a Swiss train and in Narrabeen Australia. The narration and music is beautiful, frenetic, with synthetic and organic elements battling as the King of Leftfield against sonic mice stuck in between two realities.

'Star Birth' is international maverick and music icon Hugo Race's 15th album with his band of True Spirits. It's a double album and the twin album's name is 'Star Death'. Star Birth was recorded during Australia's bushfire summer apocalypse of 2019 and mixed as the 2020 covid-19 pandemic hit. When the stars align it all makes sense, Hugo explains, adding that one oceanic evening while writing the album a bright star exploded right before his eyes, the sign of a sudden end and a new beginning...

Two sought after Slyngshot tracks finally getting reissued alongside another two yet unreleased jams on the latest YAPPIN 12".

Founded by SHERELLE and NAINA, the highly anticipated label Hooversound has been making a lot of noise this year. Following on from their debut release from Hyroglifics and Sinistarr, they followed up in June with an another explosive EP from London’s Deft. They’re back to mark the third release on the imprint, this time with UK producer HØST delivering two moody bass driven tracks, with an official remix from Bristol legend, Om Unit.

HØST has experimented across a wide variety of genres, all laced with his uniquely dark sound. The two tracks on the EP are no doubtably the slowest BPM we’ve seen Hooversound explore, both spanning from 135-145, which shows the versatility and depth of the label whilst reflecting the broad sounds within the exciting UK bass scene.

Whilst HØST delivers the deep technical production, Hooversound brings in one of the most influential artists in electronic music, Om Unit, on the official remix of ‘Survive’. Om Unit brings the tempo up with his signature sound, flipping ‘Survive’ into a fierce 80bpm record, giving the EP an extra dose of energy.

HØST began experimenting with production around the age of 13. He went on to learn piano, trumpet and guitar which sparked his passion for electronic music production which leads to his sound today. Having had releases across Noisia’s imprints, Saturate Records and Aufect Recordings, HØST is a producer that experiments with twisted bass and melodic melancholy pads which is perfectly executed in HOO03.

Presenting the "About You" EP from Visages - Toulouse's favourite dnb quartet. Visages deliver 4 tracks of unapologetically refined music with this EP. It features the renowned Laville on the title track, and includes a feature from Skylark on the sinister, melancholic minimal track 'Empire'. Visages' work ethic is unrivalled, and is apparent in this body of work.

Infernal Sounds welcome back the heavyweight Von D, as he delivers the gargantuan three-track Hunedoara EP, fresh off the back of his debut release on Deep Medi. Spanning way back to 004 on the label in which he made his debut on Infernal Sounds with two tracks 'Cross Of Hendaye' & 'Finis Gloriae Mundi', he drives a different style and reflection on this endeavour. The title-track 'Hunedoara' is the crowd pleaser - hitting you with the heavyweight stomping war chant, whereas both 'Akasha' and the textural 'Layers' on the B-side are melody centered and display the more playful side to the French producers repertoire. Having already received the backing from the likes of Truth, DJ Squarewave, and many other reputable artists in the scene, this is a plate that's armed for the dance or for playing at home.

Ltd. edition of 500 numbered copies on clear vinyl New Zealand-born sound artist and composer Annea Lockwood received formal training at various institutions before exploring the sonorous potential of glass in a series of performances in the late 1960s. With plates of wired glass, glass discs, chunks of green cullet glass, glass tubing, sheets of micro-glass, glass jars and other incarnations of the material, Lockwood elicited a staggering array of sounds, some subtly uncanny and others as outlandish and alien as anything emitted from the era's early synthesizers. Lockwood's glass concerts yielded a text-score published in Northern California new-music journal Source: Music of the Avant-Garde and attracted the attention of South African producer Michael Steyn, who encouraged her to record the glass pieces for his label Tangent. They worked for two years in a small, resonant church in London to document a veritable catalogue of the materials' tone and timbre; Lockwood wished to present each sound as if it were a piece of music in and of itself. Glass World originally appeared on Tangent in 1970.

"I wanted to entice people into really listening intensively," Lockwood once reflected. "Into really listening. I wanted a deep immersion in the sounds of themselves, for the audience."

Breakage returns for the fifth release on his own label Index, the aptly titled 'India November Delta Echo X-Ray' EP.

In a very short space of time, the label has become a go-to for fans and artists alike. The high-quality threshold of the label and its output has resulted in unanimous appreciation from all those listening, most notably Annie Mac who recently tweeted "Breakage. One of the best to do it."

LP reissue of the cassette edition "Solar Music Tent" documenting an installation and performance in Hagen, Germany, originally released by Joe Jones in 1982 in an edition of 10 copies.From the early 1980s onwards, Joe Jones released a handful of self-recorded music machine performances on tape under his own record label "Tone-Deaf Music". Most tapes came in a standard xeroxed sleeve with a handwritten title and instrument listing. A few, including "Solar Music Tent", were released in combination with a book: The cassette was included in a red ring binder that held a handwritten photo documentation of the performance of the same name at Karl-Ernst-Osthaus-Museum in Hagen on April 1, 1982, a handwritten music notebook, and an invitation card. The recording itself was titled "Solar Music #5" and was made on March 16, 1982, with the instrument ensemble of the Solar Music Tent at Jones' apartment in Düsseldorf.Like the previous Jones releases on Edition Telemark, this reissue is limited to 200 copies and comes in a gate-fold PVC sleeve: The right-hand side holds the LP, the left-hand side holds A4-sized facsimiles of all artwork that was included in the original edition.

'gulden onversneden' is the out-of-the-blue debut of klein volk, a cozy quatre-mains that used to brighten up birthdays and bedroom parties before it all got out of hand. The ten tracks of 'gulden onversneden' capture klein volk's cherished naïveté during the drawling heatwave days of June 2018, when the world cup frenzy ravaged the streets, squares and minds of tiny Belgium - a brief window in time that diffracted everything unwaveringly into black, yellow and red.

A muscular tribute to the analogue innovation and body music of the 1980s. Incorporating myriad hints of new wave, soft industrial and proto-acid, Luca Duran once again demonstrates his ability to take the sounds that have influenced his work and spin their heritage into a sincere, playful and most importantly, fresh release. A worthy follow up on his recent Clone Royal Oak release on his own Akoya Circles imprint! The record opens with the punchy 'Body Mechanics', a purely physical jam loaded with vampish synths and pounding drums, offset with a loved-up vocal sample. 'Romancia Negativa' was recorded while in Bogota in late 2018, and is informed by the experimentation and abandon of DIY songwriting and band culture, while maintaining it's foot on the dancefloor. Luca Duran's razor-sharp nous for a groove is immediately reestablished on the flip with the patient, acidic 'Life Wires', a deceptively complex analogue jam that bubbles with analogue energy and left field details. The EP concludes with 'Circunavalar', an ethereal blend of Luca Duran's sublime oscillations that leads listeners and dancers gently to a conclusion to a spacious heaven of meditative bass weight. On the back of V- Necks re issue Auto and the Lost 1990s Recordings one half of the band V Neck Mark Churcher takes time out from from his Chicago Bee project to deliver his first full length album on Emote.

He teams up with the cult Brighton based experimental artist Alasdair Willis (The Vitamin B 12) who plays saxophone on 3 of the 11 tracks on the album.

The album has all the hallmarks of an Emote record and more. Likely to be listed as down tempo / abstract ambient and blending many different styles together.

If you are in tune with free jazz and abstract electronic tribal music you should find this good home spooky listening .

Variations on Memory is an ongoing project by Max Schreiber, who records Memorial day songs intuitively, the way they were carved in his own memory.Schreiber takes the national memory to the most personal place and creates his own interpretations of the classic songs. The songs are usually recorded in one session. The final outcome, with its off-keys and inaccuracies, gives a new meaning to these memorial songs, and formulates imaginative soundtracks to Hebrew horror movies

Only six months after his sophomore album, Hentschel returns with a two-piece EP showcasing yet another aspect of his musical spectrum. While the first two albums featured only instrumental tracks, "Facades" are the first two pieces in which Orson Hentschel works with text as a main musical element for his composition, although he approaches vocals from a rather particular perspective. For Hentschel, the spoken word is always music and thus not di erent than any other instrumental input or sound layer. Consequently, he is only interested in the sound of the spoken words on Facades, but not in any content they convey

"Both profound and profoundly jaw dropping, the esoteric moves of this massively rare and insanely obscure 300 copy Japanese marvel have until now remained the sole preserve of a handful of heavyweight collectors. It's time to let the cat out of the bag on this one. The dankly cavernous and unsettling acid maneuvers of Dome circa their first three LP's (though absent vocals) are the nearest antecedent I can summon for the principal thrust of the sound here. So too, there's a ritualistic dimension to this stuff thats also a bit suggestive of something like Vasilisk or The Hybryds, though the arcane initiatory atmosphere here is far more penetrating that anything I've heard either of those two muster. Combine that with a Johan Hedran-like overlay of wafting, heat-warped systemic electronics and your at least in the general neighborhood, but these are only indicators pointing toward the occult sonic universe that The Mask Of The Imperial Family are enacting..." He is regarded as one of the modern masters of instrumental hip-hop, and the forthcoming new album sees him return to record-label-released music with the bold and exciting roster at Future Archive Recordings (co-founded by artists Arms and Sleepers, Sun Glitters, Little People and CNJR, and also co-run by Mark McGlinchey).

Second album for Blakk Harbor, the Greek Berlin based act Angelos Liaros-Copola and prolific sound designer of Native Instruments (DE), delivering disrespectful broken technoise with this release. The lead-off and title track of Brock Van Wey's 38th bvdub album Wrath and Apathy establishes itself with a noir hued Rhodes piano and idly lurching beats that provide an intoxicating beginning, which is, fittingly obstructed by a resonant synth-line that paces the song to new heights.
Van Wey's fans have come to covet the ebb and flow between such sprawlingly emotive passages, and Wrath and Apathy has these in mass.
It takes its time, like most of Van Wey's works, to get where it's going, and his musi- cal style to the already initiated is that of intently watching the ocean waves, with each wave bringing its own unique shape, texture, and in this case, aural reward.
Wrath and Apathy is loosely based on the events of Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Shore. Like most of Van Wey's recent n5MD works, comes in the form of four spaciously captivating and deeply immersive long-form journeys.

In 1992 Diplomat and his pal Julian ‘Hellfish’ Cobb were recording for Moving Shadow under the name of Destruction Production. Not long after this release Diplomat started work on this EP, using Hellfish’s studio to mixdown the final recordings. The original release of this EP came out in 1993 on Diplomats own label, Immunity Records. This is another sought after classic piece of early UK hardcore, commanding prices of up to £100 a copy of Discogs.

After two releases on Immunity, Diplomat recorded for Bogwoppa and Deathchant throughout the 90’s before setting up his own label called Electro Avenue Records, releasing some amazing electro tracks.

Jungle flavours run rampant through the latest Craigie Knowes 12". This time Frey (aka the prolific Benedikt Frey) joins the varied Scottish imprint to lay down 3 jungle infused rhythms. Title track 'Shadow' and 'D.Y.S.' expertly blend complex drums and morphing synthesis with the haunting and recondite vocals of Nadia D'Alo? on the A-side. PI rounds off the record with a more familiar jungle outing but is by all means as unique as the rest of the record. One for the heads, inside.

J.C.'s "Farewell for Walls" gives us three well crafted original tracks plus a remix by Hector Oaks.

It starts with an atmospheric breakbeat work-out followed by a more pounding version by OAKS/KAOS boss Hector.

The B-side continues where the remix stopped, upping the energy and sticking to a 4x4 pattern while retaining breaky elements and chopped vocals.

Following on from his standout album on Nite Grooves, Jozef K is back with more of his underground brilliance on Lost City Archives Vol.3.

2024 Repress

KMRU is the moniker of Joseph Kamaru, a sound artist, and producer based in Nairobi. One of the leading exponents of the burgeoning experimental music scene in Nairobi and beyond he was listed by Resident Advisor as one of '15 East African Artists You Need To Hear' in 2018 and is a regular performer at the fabled Nyegenyege Festival having also presented live performances at CTM festival and Gamma Festival. Peel is KMRU's first release for Editions Mego. exquisite mix of field recordings and electronics unravelling at a repetitive and leisurely pace to expose a rich tapestry of sound that has been revered for it's ability to cross bordear with the sheer undertow of emotional content. The subtle calming atmosphere within Peel belies the compositional prowess as layers of delicate sounds wrap around each other creating a hybrid new form ambient musics both captivating through it's textural depth and kaleidoscopic patterns. The track titles lend themselves to the themes and mood set within: Why are you here, Well, Solace, Klang, Insubstantial and the title track. This is a deep heartfelt journey with a new strong voice being expressed through the means of organically presented electronic ambient sounds, one which reveals further layers on repeat listens.
