Being a relentless sound explorer, Laurent Perrier had no other choice to cross paths one day with the world of modular synthesis and to prefer, over the scalpel precision of the laptop that presides over many of his earlier productions under several identities (as Heal, but also as Zonk't, Pylône, Cape Fear and under his own name), the unpredictability of modular systems. That being said, Espace d'Incertitude, the new Heal album isn't improvised at all but was on the contrary mostly composed as soundtracks for choreographic creations. Dedicated to two historic' visions of the modular synthesis, Espace d'Incertitude offers two different sonic universes across its two sides.

The Buchla side, written with this mythical synthesizer takes advantage of its bareness to offer five repetitive and shifting tracks that seems literally born in real time, evolve according to the rules of a language as mysterious as it is accessible.

Conversely, the Mutable side is built from the modules of this French brand, leader of a renewed approach of modular synthesis, and adept of inventive sounds. The result is more ambient tracks, perhaps more typical of the past work of Laurent Perrier, which gradually merge into fragile constructions and play a game of faked mirrors with our perceptions.

Heal certainly did not wait to switch to modular synthesizers to challenge our expectations and plunge us into a delightful uncertainty. Almost all albums recorded by Laurent Perrier under this identity or another are welcome surprises that systematically refuse repetition and conformism. With Espace d'Incertitude, he offers us new organic and sensory worlds to explore and tame ... while waiting for future surprises.

  • 6: B4 All That
  • 7: Cold Skies

Coveted beat-maker, DJ and long-time Coyote Records mainstay Last Japan is to release new seven-track track EP, 'LUNA' — a vivid collection of tracks inspired by the limitless possibilities of space, written to capture the 'atmosphere, architecture and people' of Bow in East London, where he has lived for the last four years. Having spent much of 2017 working on Circadian Rhythms, the label he co-runs alongside Blackwax and visual artists / fashion designers Jase Coop, William Francis Green and Dylan Tushar, 'LUNA' drops as his most extensive work since 2014 mixtape, 'Ride With Us'. Across seven tracks, he shifts between shimmering, expansive sound design ('Tether', 'Cold Skies') and the razor sharp, clinical grime productions ('U Wot MVIII', 'Squad', 'B4 All That') he has long been sought-after for. Rising London MC Prynce Mini also features on the slick and anthemic 'Wrong One', switching between gritty hood flows and his own infectious, auto-tuned hooks. This body of work runs parallel to my previous work released on Coyote Records', explains Last Japan, however my inspiration here feels more personal. For me, it captures the mood of where I live, the atmosphere, the architecture and the people of Bow. A winter-inspired body of work, it's a soundtrack to misty days and cold, crisp nights with Canary Wharf looming and the Shard and London's skyline in the distance.' 'LUNA' follows 2016 Coyote smash, 'Ascend' featuring AJ Tracey — a record debuted live on Boiler Room 12 months prior and widely regarded as one of the best grime singles of that year — and follow-up singles 'Exhale' and 'Dead 'Em', both featuring Killa P. Last Japan is also a regular host of Coyote Records' monthly Rinse FM show, presides over Circadian Rhythms' influential NTS broadcasts alongside Blackwax and is a frequent guest at Coyote label parties, playing his first ever all-night set in London back in August 2017. 'LUNA' will be released on limited 12', complete with pull-out poster and an untitled vinyl-only bonus track.

Potter Natalizia Zen - Shut Your Eyes On The Way Out

After stranding listeners in deep space with Schleißen 4 in 2015, Potter, Natalizia and Zen regroup along the percussive vectors of Shut Your Eyes On The Way Out for the Ecstatic label. Three years in the making, taking cues from German synth rock, cosmic disco, abstract EBM and obscure library sounds, the trio head for seductive new horizons of pulsing rhythms and floating ambient dub tones.
The six hands control the mission with masterful skill and sleight of hand, prompting routes for the user rather than signposting the way with cliché. Of course, it's hard to escape some sense of homage or reverence for the original forms, but they do so with such sensitivity to the material and 'the journey' that the results simply transcends that heritage, to arrive somewhere, timelessly, out there.
In a starfield littered with long-abandoned shuttles and criss-crossed by previously attempted missions, they chart a steady course, slowly melting from cryogenic stasis to map out free floating space in Articulated, then holding their course despite the gravitational pull from massive objects in Rhythm Did Not Change, and under pressure of slow disco G-forces in the pulsing beauty of Linda, leading to the interception of panicked bleeps in Chaosmosis.
Over on the B-Side When Time Stops Moving the mission becomes very Tarkovsky-esque and surreal, with Zen's lysergic drones really coming into their own, before the upside down tonal sculpting of Unsystematic Waves re-aligns the user's brain functions in preparation for the stunning dynamic proprioception of Che Osmosi, where the route ahead becomes scrambled in a delirious tangle of nagging arpeggio melodies and pill-belly pulses, emulating pretty much how you'd feel, lost but happy to be zillions of light years from terra firma.

Shadow People - 12" Vinyl Edition

Truth & Youngsta to release new album under the Shadow People' moniker.

Shadow People is a new project fresh from the studios of award-winning New Zealand production duo Truth ( Best Electronic Artist' - 2017 New Zealand Music Awards, Best Album' & Best EP' - 2017 Dubstep Awards) and world renowned DJ Youngsta. Over 3 years in the making, the self-titled Shadow People' is a meticulously produced, bass-heavy peek into a post-apocalyptic landscape populated by people living in the shadows.

Shadow People features collaborations with producers Taso (Teklife) and Cimm, as well as vocal features from Animai, Spikey Tee, Ace Boogie, Lelijveld, Rosa Ward and Melanie Antonides. Sonically setting itself apart from other Truth productions, such as their 2017 album Wilderness of Mirrors', this release sheds layers to expose a more stripped back offering. Shadow People' also represents the first full-length LP to be released on Deep, Dark & Dangerous, the label which won Label of the Year' at the 2017 Dubstep Awards.

Shadow People Bio:

From the catastrophic aftermath of an alchemical experiment executed far from the reaches of hazy light in downtown Los Angeles, Shadow People emerged from the smoking ruins like cockroaches during nuclear winter. Testing sonic limitations in this new world, their transmissions began to create hope within an unstable reality, providing sanctuary for all who listened. Now, like their decaying surroundings, the Shadow People channel the dramatic, minimal and morose into lucid creation. No longer subjugated by the shackles of classification that plagued their world, they embrace mutation and forging paths untrodden.

20.03.2018

One year into his music production career, WHB' is the startling debut release from Brooklyn's Kellen303. A unique hybrid, the tracks are inspired by goth rock/industrial, footwork and vogue music. It's perhaps a happy but unlikely accident that they also fit into Keysound Recording's dark, rolling UK sound. Across five tracks, four cut to vinyl, Kellen303 maps out his unique but bleak vision. The title track, a relentless volley of thunderous kicks, samples a phone interview Kellen303 held with a grime MC close to Keysound's hearts. 'What's Happening Brotha' is titled such because these songs were made at a very dark time in my life,' he explains. I decided to turn my anger and frustrations into music.' There is also a visual/thematic component to my music. Specifically, within the world of 'Planet X.' Where 'Planet X' is a song about going war, the Interstellar mix is song about traveling to that war in suspended animation. The song take place in a dream state where thoughts, emotions and images from the day are passing in and out of the subconscious.' As his thoughts suggest, Kellen303 is also an intensely visual person: outside DJing, he's a filmmaker and screenwriter. He also co-founded Transit FM, a vibrant American web radio station. The EP also features a vocal from Bronx based Afro-Dominicano MC, Rainey.

When we're young, the lines we draw are rough. They represent big emotions we can't quite explain. Later in life, we mourn feelings lost to time. But you can fill in the parts you can't remember - patching together sentiments floating in the ether, reminiscing on things you haven't lived. In the process, new flowers bloom. Wildflower is all original work, written and performed by Pax from his base in the Bay Area. With big dusty walls of sound and a free-spirited melodic bend, it tells a story of growing pains in dreamy strokes, aimed straight for your gut with a crisp, autumnal charm that practically begged to be pressed to wax.
Wildflower encompass the dexterous range of Pax, the clear-eyed precociousness and smiling audacity with which he swallows everything saccharine, chews up the parts and spits out something exquisite and joyful - at times spectral, and bitterly sad, too.

A sonic exploration of that borderland between the waking world and sleep - a place everyone has been to but few remember - Phono Ghosts comes back to reality with a selection of vivid Polaroids and cassette memories from his visits to the hypnagogic hinterland of the collective unconscious and presents these pure distilled documents for you on four beautiful sides of vinyl. Mika Vainio, Ryoji Ikeda & Alva Noto - Live 2002

LIVE 2002 captures an inspired performance at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle by three revered, influential and like-minded pioneers, Ryoji Ikeda, Alva Noto, and the late, great Mika Vainio.

This recording marks the only ever concert by the trio and its release serves as a tribute to the much-loved Vainio. Mika was not only a friend and collaborator, but also an inspiration for my work as an artist. This is a celebration of his contribution to our work', says Carsten Nicolai, AKA Alva Noto.

Minimal but highly effective, the performance builds throughout with deep sub bass, sleek, spacious sound design and high voltage, inorganic ambience. The inherent noise floor in studio equipment is pushed-up to take center stage. This is sound of electricity, the hum of the engine room and of technology operating almost independently, only gently coerced with artistic finesse by expert human hands. At points static is used decoratively with an ornate, delicate intricacy. At points it becomes rhythmic, like the innate repetition found in machinery. The sonic spectrum later opens up, evoking a rush with laser-like beams of audio light and a barrage of colossal, synthesized waves.

CARTSEN NICOLAI was born in Karl-Marx Stadt, Saxony in former East Germany and studied architecture and landscape design before pursuing art and music, when his interest in David Toop's ideas on the structural and spatial qualities of sound inspired his own endeavours. In 2000, Nicolai adopted the pseudonym Alva Noto for his growing experiments in sound and music, to distinguish them from his visual art, for which he uses his own name. His extensive catalogue and diverse musical projects include collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ryoji Ikeda, Mika Vainio, Scanner, Björk, Iggy Pop, Tarwater, Michael Nyman and Blixa Bargeld from Einstürzende Neubauten.

He has contributed to compilations in tribute to Andrei Tarkovsky and Iannis Xenakis and remixed Björk, Hauschka, John Cale, Kangding Ray, Ludovico Einaudi, Pantha Du Prince, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Most prominently - and alongside Sakamoto - Nicolai scored the music for Alejandro González Iñárritu's hit film, 'The Revenant' which won multiple Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs and Critics' Choice Awards.

Nicolai started the independent label NOTON between 1994 and 1996. A collaboration with RasterMusic began the same year, and by 1999 the two labels had merged into Raster-Noton, which operated until May 2017. Now Nicolai runs NOTON separately, although all parties will continue with special collaborative projects and activities under the name Raster-Noton.

RYOJI IKEDA is one of Japan's leading electronic composers and audiovisual artists. He was born in Gifu, Japan and lives/works in Paris, France and Kyoto, Japan. Ikeda elaborately orchestrates sound, visuals, light, and physical phenomena into immersive live performances and installations, utilizing mathematical precision and aesthetics. He focuses on the essential characteristics of sound itself and his razor sharp music primarily examines sound in a variety of 'raw' states, such as sine tones and noise, often using frequencies at the edges of the range of human hearing. In addition to working as a solo artist, he has also collaborated with Carsten Nicolai (as cyclo.) and the art collective Dumb Type.

MIKA VAINIO was a Finnish musician renowned for experimental electronic music made under his own name, his solo project Ø, plus various other aliases and collaborations. Much of his output was released on Sähkö Recordings - the label ran by Tommi Grönlund. Most famously he was part of Pan Sonic with Ilpo Väisänen and initially Sami Salo. The group were known for recording everything live using home-made, modified synthesizers and effect units, samplers and an MPC2000 sequencer, straight to DAT. In addition to performances and sound installations in various high profile galleries and in museums worldwide, Pan Sonic played a gig in London's East End from an armoured car using a 5000 watt sound system - similar to those used by the police to disorient rioters.

Mika Vainio died on April 13, 2017 at the age of 53. Tributes to his envelope-pushing genius came from far and wide, including Holly Herndon, Animal Collective, NHK yx Koyxen and Nicholas Jaar. A posthumous MV album called 'Reat' and a reissue of the Ø album 'Konstellaatio' have been released this year. Noton will also be making two other collaborations between Vainio and Nicolai digitally available in early 2018, 'MIKRO MAKRO' by Ø + NOTO and 'wohltemperiert' by Ø + noto.

Number / Headland - Aether (Headland Remix) / Local (Tetrad Remix666)

Well Rounded return in 2018 with a special limited 10" release combining sound-system slaying remixes of 2 of our previously released bangers.

On the A side HEADLAND adds density, tough edges and heft to NUMBer's 'Æther'.
All elements from the original have been recast into rougher and heavier forms. The crushing result sounds as if the spacey bounce of the original has gained serious weight, been infected with a sonic virus and had various parts mutated to create maximum carnage in the cranium.

On the AA side TETRAD works fresh discipline, supple subbass and driving drums into his '666' remix of HEADLAND's 'Local' creating a rock-solid soundbed for the wild and wayward original parts to ride across. This superb refit maintains the madness of the original but adds additional sharpness and focus for increased degrees of dancefloor annihilation.

Ripperton - Sight Seeing (2 X Lp)

Swiss artist and veteran producer Ripperton contacted the ESP Institute out of the blue mid-2017 to share a gorgeous mix of self-produced material, a collection of pieces made without any agenda outside of representing the self, not geared toward the dancefloor or a specific environment but simply a bi-product of introspective exploration. We were floored, the mix was on constant repeat in our world for weeks, then was subsequently pulled apart into separate titles to form this beautiful double LP, Ripperton's debut with the label. The title Sight Seeing speaks of someone stepping outside their current reality to look in the mirror, as if to ground themselves and keep sight of who they are in a world of extreme highs and lows. Inspired greatly by expansive landscapes and views from airplane windows (imagine your commute flying over the Alps every weekend), Ripperton describes this collection as postcards to himself, messages from his subconscious recorded on tape (both conceptually and literally), melancholy soundtracks to the Mondays that follow weekend journeys. While musical genres tend to cycle through bandwagon moments, the ESP Institute strives to operate independently of these, and while Sight Seeing is undoubtably an Ambient album, we're simply proud to revel in the chance moment where an esteemed artist such as Ripperton spreads his wings in a beautifully unexpected mode of expression.

Xdj Marcelle, Another Nice Mess - Xpsalm Tree

The "DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess Meets Most Soulmates at Faust Studio Deejay Laboratory" release is clearly meant for home listening. Instead of publishing a clumsy souvenir of a glittering night, Marcelle very consciously addresses the context in which her music is played. For instance, the end of one of Marcelle's live sets, which includes ecstatic outcries from the public, can also be heard on the new album. It's possible to dance to this record in the living room, but it also works as a valuable sound sculpture, a composition of international music and sound art. The new album is a snapshot of Marcelle´s continuous search for innovative sounds. As always it was recorded at Faust Studio in Germany, run by Faust founding member Hans Joachim Irmler. It was recorded in the same manner Marcelle works on stage: using three turntables and playing records simultaneously, with plenty of room for improvisation. The resulting sound comes with such thick layers and is so consciously composed that no musical appropriation is noticeable. Rather the work sounds like the "Marcelle style", or better yet, the "Marcelle attitude". Marcelle is about artistic freedom, blowing up limitations, crossing musical, cultural and political boundaries and limitations. African beats rumble wildly, colliding with a sound piece by a Swiss artist. Psychotic drum'n'bass shakes the whole thing up before letting it drop back into a deep dub abyss. Most of Marcelle's sources are well hidden, and sourced from little-known labels. Selecting from subversive underground labels which are discussed in significant musical circles, or from almost completely unknown material and limited vinyl editions, she is often found busy tracking-down new sounds in all sorts of speciality shops while on tour. It's not without reason that Marcelle is considered as "the only real successor to BBC legend John Peel". Her weekly, very wayward radio broadcasts have been going for almost 30 years and have been garnering her praise from all over the world. Marcelle's new LP honours Peel, who died ten years ago this October, in a very special way, by playing a sample of English reggae band Misty In Roots. These lyrics were included on the order of service of Peel's funeral, where Marcelle was present.
I got not style. I'm simply roots - New in Marcelle's fourth instalment of this double album series with similarly designed sleeves, is side four. It contains individual tracks: collaborations with other artists and projects such as Fodderstompf (a collaboration between Marcelle and Cologne-based percusionist Holger Mertin), Quiquoiou (a project that Marcelle runs together with Guido Möbius since 2013) and a track penned entirely by Marcelle herself. Her typical charm and dry sense of humour are evident here through an endless repetition of the phrase "turn the music down". "DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess Meets Most Soulmates at Faust Studio Deejay Laboratory" is an artfully arranged 'mess', full of many treasures to dance, cry, think, and laugh wholeheartedly to. Amon Düül's 1969 debut-LP 'Psychedelic Underground', here reissued on vinyl, is music at its most experimental and relentlessly uncommercial, using late '60s influences as a launching ground for what would become known as Krautrock. Taken from a jam session from the previous year, but treated with many studio effects that enhance the strangeness of the collection, 'Psychedelic Underground' rocks to its own weird beat.

Goon Club Allstars
12.03.2018

Off the back of Rudeboyz follow up EP entitled Gqomwave, Goon Club Allstars are back with an EP from UK Funky producer KG. In 2007 Karen Nyame, otherwise known as KG, was at the Nottingham Trent University producing beats on Fruity Loops. Slightly isolated in Nottingham - away from the UK Funky scene's London epicentre - KG posted her tunes on popular UK Funky message boards and Facebook pages, but never had an opportunity to properly stake her claim as one of the scene's heavy hitters. 808 and Midnight (Flute Riddim) are two lost anthems from that era, although receiving support from the likes of Marcus Nasty and others, they were largely forgotten amongst the numerous stand out tracks of the era, appearing rarely in mixes of those lucky enough to have digital copies. 808 is the party anthem, it's joyous, quivering melodies ascend above the thumping kick drum, while relentless crashing snares and carnival whistles rain down - guaranteed to heat up the coldest of dancefloors. Midnight (Flute Riddim) on the flip side is the softer, slinkier bubbler. Built for smouldering club action and hot sunny days. BSNYEA is a new addition to Goon Club Allstars' burgeoning family of artists. Hailing from the Bronx he is a veteran of the Borough's Litefeet genre that soundtracks the performances of subway dancers cross New York City's transit system. On his remix of 808 he focusses on the whistles and gutter synth lines adding in booming bass drums and lock inducing chants. Hitmakerchinx comes fresh from his anthemic Night Slugs compilation. Bringing his signature FDM energy he drops the tempo and builds on the light, airiness, letting the flutes play out softly underneath the thumping drums.

Meat Beat Manifesto - Impossible Star

Meat Beat manifesto formed in Swindon in 1987 by Jack Dangers (MBM's only permanent member) and "Impossible Star" is the first full length album in over seven years from the seminal electronic band.

Minimal, textural and cinematic in scope, Impossible Star follows the music innovators deeper into more experimental territory. From the thick and discordant soundscape of "One" to the cut-and-paste pastiche of "Bass Playa" to the downtempo of "T.M.I.", Impossible Star is a layered exploration of sounds and rhythms.

MBM's consistent musical invention has led to all forms of electronic musical experimentation over its 30 year history, from jungle to techno to industrial to dubstep to jazz fusion. Its long string of influential futuristic classics includes such groundbreaking tracks as "God O.D.", "Strap Down", "Psyche Out", "Helter Skelter", "Radio Babylon", "Edge of No Control" to "It's The Music"

Kicking off the new EP with a bang is the cinematic and soulful'Don't Wait'. The majestical, eerie vibes of the intro instantly mesmerise. Rumblingand warm bass grooves, slick beats, delcious melodies andheart-wrenching vocals push the #ekhosound to newheights.

Up next, the title track 'Cold Earth'is a stunning journey into futuristic DnB with a detroit technotwist taking inspiration from the beloved Soul:Rfamily. Instant roller territory.

'Spiralled' flips the script entirely, showcasing a thunderous tribal jam sealed with quirk. The devious intro may catch you offguard as the twisted world sounds andguitar hooks elevate to a wonderfully warped and bass hurtling drop. Dancefloor banger alert!

Bruce Gilbert - Ex Nihilo

Bruce Gilbert

Ex Nihilo

12inchEMEGO250V
Editions Mego
23.03.2018

All tracks written and recorded by Bruce Gilbert, mastered by Russell Haswell

Design: David Coppenhall, front image/ concept: Bruce Gilbert
Cut by Rashad Becker @ Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin

Editions Mego's 250th release continues its ongoing legacy of cross-pollinating and perverting various threads of radical 20th Century music whilst concocting and properling further ideas into the nebulous region where we currently reside.

With Ex Nilhio, Editions Mego resumes it's enduring relationship with long term collaborator and stalwart representative of the labels aesthetic with a new release from London's most charming deviant occupant, Mr Bruce Gilbert (formerly of Wire, Dome etc..).

Gilbert's peculiar approach to sound over four decades has seen him engage with a wide variety of practice and performance always hovering amongst the grey area between his mind and the surrounding architecture. Ex Nilhio is another significant entry into Gilbert's outre sound-book.

Inhabiting a murky zone between interference and trauma, Ex Nilhio is a daring and dark audio ride through a contemporary ketamine haze, one which haunts identifiable parameters whilst remaining too oblique to be truly quantified. Change and Not teases discomfort, Black Mirrors embraces disorder, Nomad skirts the unsettling.

Whilst never quite resolving its own logic Ex Nilhio invites the casual listener to privy a devastating peculiar and somewhat paranoid fantasy (reality).

Another effortless Gilbert classic.

Christian Tiger School - If You Want To

Cape Town duo Christian Tiger School provide the 3rd part of the Lissoms series. Both graduates of the Red Bull Music Academy and part of the Sónar line-up this summer - they've previously posted an LP for the mighty Tommy Boy & remixes for SubPop, and had their work remixed by luminaries like Mndsgn.
'If You Want To' embodies their sound and the fervent Cape Town beats scene aptly - esoteric UK influences sit amongst ambient soundscapes and a cracked breakbeat, pinned on a looped bassline - growing in intensity but using the most subtle of touches.Gacha Bakradze's version posits the track somewhere between slow-burning disco and krautrock, framing the character of the original with loose jams on his array of studio gear. Finally, Edmondson's version is a minimal, 2-steppy take honed by the Berlin sounds which have pricked his ears for the last couple of years.

James Holden & The Animal Spirits - The Animal Spirits

James Holden has announced his third album recorded together with his newly-expanded band, going under the name James Holden & The Animal Spirits. The Animal Spirits will be released 3 November via his own Border Community label. This will be the first full length release from Holden since 2013's critically lauded The Inheritors.
Let yourself be transported to a magical other world of instinct and intuition with this bold new set of synth-led folk-trance standards from electronics guru James Holden and his newly-expanded band of fellow travellers The Animal Spirits. A wild ride that unites the characteristic propulsive melodic vigour of his custom-made modular synthesizer system with an unlikely supporting cast of brass, wind and live percussion, the expansive and transformative psychedelic journey of The Animal Spirits is certainly eternal outsider Holden's most ambitious work to date - but surely also his most direct and accessible.

Double gatefold heavyweight vinyl includes MP3 download codes.

Moondog - The Story Of Moondog

Originally released on Prestige in 1957, this is the third LP from NYC street performer and avant garde/minimalist composer Moondog. Perhaps the least accessible of his early releases, this album is made up of percussive jams, usually on instruments of his own creation, street sounds, poetry, and Far East melodies, despite opening with a swinging number that is, oddly, the most bizarre thing on the album. Another classic from Moondog reissued with its original Andy Warhol artwork. Limited edition of 1,000 on purple and green starburst vinyl.

Pepo Galán - Human Values Disappear

Experimental Spanish composer and multi-instrumentalist Pepo Gala´n makes his vinyl debut with an exquisite record of carefully orchestrated ambient pieces.
Conceived as a fierce response to the gradual decay of our society, "Human Values Disappear" takes us on a trip to the darkest corners of a dysfunctional world, painting a broken landscape with deeply arresting and meditative drones.
Composed initially on a vintage Casiotone, the album was further enriched with lush and spacious arrangements, giving the songs a newfound intensity. In this effort, Pepo Gala´n surrounded himself with talented artists Lee Yi and David Cordero, each of whom bring their unique approach to composition into play. The result is an eclectic, yet deeply cohesive palette of sounds that flow seamlessly into each other, creating a moody ambiance that permeates everything.
Despite the bleak tones and subject matter, Pepo Gala´n is able to strike a balance between darkness and hope, allowing glimpses of light ("Half Moon", "Old Testament") to filter through the sheer sonic intensity of the fiercest tracks ("We Are All Welcome Here", "Almost Alone in this Life"). This transition is better exemplified on the album's centerpiece "Sacred Autumn", a collaboration with David Cordero that starts off with an elegant string section, gradually building into a guitar feedback climax that slowly fades off, paving the way for an epic closing number.
By the time we hear the last sounds of "Few Dollar More", the emotional impact of the record is undeniable. "Human Values Disappear" is indeed one of the most sincere, enigmatic and life- affirming records that Pepo Gala´n has ever produced.

S>>D aka Sean Dorris from Belfast delivers his debut album 'Co Intel Pro' on CPU. Refined sampling alongside hip hop influenced breaks sees S>>D operating in a similar dimension to VHS Head. Reminiscent of 1980s sci-fi soundtracks interwoven with IDM-tinged electro, haunting atmospheres prevail throughout with hints of a genre that has yet to emerge. Jose Rico - Declaration Of Intent Ep

Jose Rico launches the new Le Disque Record Store's project: Ambiwa Records, a label dedicated to abstract House music.

"Declaration of Intent EP" is a collection of songs with a history, 4 pieces of his life talking about hypocrisy referred to poverty, the trivialisation of music as money source, the days in the studio with Ron Trent, and the night music-workers.

Beyond any related stories, here you can find all the Jose Rico's Music standards: Impossible Mpc percussion patterns, black keys, vocal textures, distorted kicks and tons of suspense and tension. This just means ... music for the most demanding dancefloors and open minds. As it could not be otherwise, mastered by Jose Rico.

Ceramic Tl + Ipek Gorgun - Perfect Lung

The third and final release from Halocline Trance for the calendar year is Perfect Lung, a collaborative album from Istanbul-based composer Ipek Gorgun and Ceramic TL aka David Psutka (Egyptrixx, Anamai, Limit). A decadent yet durable offering of material sound, recorded remotely during 2016 + 2017 in Toronto, Ankara and Istanbul. Seven songs of original, accidental music that span colour and feeling; the petroleum psychedelia of Ceramic TL framed by Gorgun's precise and emotional landscapes. Inhaling/exhaling full register slabs hint at the multi-dimensionality of optimism and voicelessness...multiple things in multiple ways. Chill melodies plod then dissolve entirely like a casual toil. Whatever you like. All creative output is eco-political in nature but this record avoids directive and cliche. Moments of clarity glint through piles of junk; total quantity mimics eruptions of precious material - an unrealistic examination of the concept of material value as defined by its relative scarcity...this album is a lot. A fixation with excess contrasts the corporeal impermanence of humans with the material half-life of their consumer existence. Our legacy is trash - stray objects inside the perfect lung.

Sign Libra - Closer To The Equator

The people at Antinote are always excited to introduce new names to its roster and Sign Libra, its latest addition, makes no exception to the rule.
.
Released under the moniker Sign Libra, Closer to the Equator is the work of Latvian artist and composer Agata Melnikova. Composed for a contemporary ballet at Latvian National Opera in Riga, the music on this record strongly relies on Melnikova's appreciation of BBC-produced nature documentaries. Projecting the life of each creature that inhabits the British TV-program into her very personal and highly synthetized world, Sign Libra lends these microscopic beings her own voice. Each song works like a musical tableau' in which the main protagonists - plants and animals - come on stage to play their part in a ballet carefully choreographed by the Latvian artist.

Sign Libra's mental and musical incarnations of the microcosm of the rainforest have something to do with Software's album populated by exotic insects and crawling plants, a Carnaval des Animaux' released on Sky by a MIDI-addicted Hector Berlioz. These microscopic beings incarnate themselves in resonated melodies that echo through a technicolour rainforest, while winds blow through holographic ferns, vines and palms.

Closer To The Equator synthesizes visions panning treetops as the sun's rays pierce through clouds nearby. Sign Libra takes you into a harmonic world that shines brightly wherever you stand, and offers a genuine synesthetic experience.

Nervous Horizons
15.02.2018

Inspired by a fluid mix of global club sounds including UK funky, kuduro, techno and rap, Nervous Horzion co-head TSVI is to kick off 2018 with the release of new EP, 'Rambo'.

Comprised of six tracks, including collaborations with DJ JM and fellow Nervous Horizon boss, Wallwork, as well as a bonus remix from Luru, 'Rambo' details how TSVI's sound continues to evolve, taking on bold new shapes in the process.

A natural extension of 2016 EP, 'Sacred Drums', here he scopes out fresh influences that can be felt right the way through the tracklist. From the blaring kuduro flavours on opener 'Pull Up' to outright UK funky club jam, 'Funky T' and sparse, frenetic drum workout 'Roller', TSVI meshes together a network of powerful, drum-centred tracks.

Features from DJ JM and Wallwork bring new focus to his work too, with 'Jaguar' — a cranking, off-piste drum exercise hit by bursts of sharp, metallic synth melodies and zapping bass stabs — spotlighting inventive sound design and brilliantly abstract thinking.

A bold marker for a producer already at the top of his game, 'Rambo' forms the perfect 2018 lift-off point for one of the UK's most exciting young club labels.

Luciano e Valerio, Giacomo e Michele: Odeon are the union of two couples of Roman brothers who are not easily defined. Take the mellow melodies of Talk Talk and the celestial guitar riffs of Cocteau Twins bound together with some heavy Goblin-inspired bassline and you'll be close to picturing Odeon's signature sound. Drawing from '70 Italian B-Movies' soundtracks, psychedelic rock and early 80s new wave, and combining analog synths, dreamy guitars, melancholy vocoder and drum machine-driven percussion, Odeon put together a debut album that sounds fresh and classic at the same time. Ethereal and mesmerizing, Galaxies is the perfect soundtrack for a sonic journey through dying stars and forbidden planets.

Optiv & Btk / Maztek & More - Dutty Audio Salespack Incl. 27 / 13 / 11

3x12"

DAUDIO027V:
The Duttyest of the dutty return with DAUDIO027, as BTK's Dutty Audio label continue to break new ground and release some of the hottest music on the neuro, and the wider drum & bass scene. This time around, label head BTK teams up with Optiv and Mindscape for two enormous tracks, Ruthless and Heads Above.
Dutty have always been about standing out from the crowd, doing things a little bit different, and catering for those that love their music loud and hard. Both these tracks fit the core ethos of what Dutty is all about, and fans old and new are going to love them.
Ed Rush 'These guys just keep on delivering. Bangers. Full support here :)' Enei 'great!' Loadstar 'tidy! always love optive and btk tracks' MC Coppa '50 Shades of Dope! Ruthless is badass' Dieselboy 'solid as fuck'
Ruthless, a collab between the three producers, gets going without any hesitation. A fading vocal sample comes in and goes out in the intro, as the track builds itself up underneath. Get ready for the mental drop, as all three artists add something distinctive to the mix. Funky, hard driving drums stand firm, as the electronic bass hums along, creating a breakneck soundscape straight from the underground. Flashy samples are up next, as the pace is picked up and direction set fair for the future. BTK, Optiv and Mindscape bring the beats down, just to recharge them and let things loose again.
On Heads Above, Optiv & BTK take over the production, with a sharp, metallic opening to the track. This is overlayed with warping bass sounds, and a ticking, headnodding beat. The comrades swap ideas, with elements of each other's sound obvious on the track. Always reaching forward, never looking back, Optiv & BTK know how to deliver the goods.
Mob Tactics 'GUTTER!!!' Gremlinz 'Smashing it!' Foreign Concept 'Sounding good lads!' John B 'v nice indeed'
Headed straight for a dancefloor near you, both Ruthless and Heads Above are great examples of the Dutty sound, and will appeal across the board. Make your next purchase DAUDIO027, you won't regret it.

Support Includes: Loadstar, State of Mind, John B, Dieselboy, Doc Scott, Mob Tactics, Random Movement, Bowser, Ray Keith, Maztek, Grooverider, Borderline, Gremlinz, Serial Killaz, Trei, Foreign Concept, Dabs, Neon Lights, Ed Rush, Dose, Chris SU, Eastcolors, AMC, Mutated Forms, Mampi Swift, SIGNS, AK1200, Enei, Joe Ford, Basher, Skynet, Rene LaVice, Crissy Criss, Billian!
---
DAUDIO013V:
This is the one you've truly been waiting for. The Blend LP drops at the perfect time for the Dutty Audio camp, after a series of acclaimed singles and EPs and high profile bookings for label boss BTK and other Dutty artists. With a varied, vivid collection over 11 tracks, the album builds on, and expands Dutty's universe, delivering track after track of quality neuro- and tech-inspired music.

Contributions come from veterans like Optiv & BTK and Maldini, and newer names like Level 2 and Cern. Expect heavy hitting sounds, blended with the finest production on display in the scene. The album is a trip, so get strapped in.

The Blend title could not be more apt, as the album ranges from the old skool-tinged blasts of C.A.B.L.E's future classic Individual, to Cern's ominous Fourth State. There's heavyweight business like label boss BTK and Optiv's majestic Let It Loose, complete with live-sounding drums and sliding effects, and the usual insanity from Teddy Killerz in the shape of the mean, sinewy, but still musical Mock.
---
DAUDIO011V:
Maztek and BTK. More specifically, Maztek on Dutty Audio. Yes folks, it doesn't get any better than this. What We Bring (featuring Nuclear MC) / Caph is the latest release from Italian phenomenon Matteo Cavo, better known as Maztek. Since starting out at the age of just 13, Maztek has led a life filled with music, and has been creating electronic music since he was 18. He formed his own label in 2005, and has found success on a range of top international labels, including Basswerk,
Future Signal and, most recently, Renegade Hardware. Along the way, he has collaborated with leading names like Aeph, Optiv, and Dabs.

S.P.Y 'I will be playing this for sure big up! :-)'
Nymfo 'Maztek is on a roll! another Beauty on Dutty Audio!'
Chris SU 'Wicked release - supporting!'

Now though, comes perhaps his shining moment, as he links up with Brazil's BTK, and his Dutty Audio imprint. Himself an esteemed producer, his label is gathering speed, whilst featuring his own material alongside selected
friends and guest who have complimented the label's vibe.

And vibes are all over What We Bring/Caph. The former is a deeply engrossing trip to the dark side. Maz and Nuclear are your guides, as you descend into the underworld, your way only lit by the track between your ears. Nuclear's rhymes are the perfect mix of dangerous and lyrical, and the track is a flowing, rolling blend of tech elements and rough, rugged basslines. Music for the clubs, and equally for heads to listen, learn and dissect, What We Bring is a statement of intent for both Maztek and Dutty Audio. Get yourselves around this one.

Caph is a sound enthusiast's dream. Unifying music and sound design, every detail is thought about and adapted by Maztek's music genius. Slowly building up to an almighty crescendo, life after the drop is a hard, uphill struggle where you are assaulted by sonic lasers and some of the crunchiest bass out there at the moment. Working its way back, the track is lifted by some pulsing synth leads and slicing effects. The percussion is then brought in, before we're taken back to the military march of the intro.

Maztek shows off his ability to build and destroy at the same time on What We Bring and Caph. The tracks have found a natural home on Dutty, and are set to rock the rest of your summer. Essential listening.

Ulterior Motive 'Wicked stuff guys thanks'
Fourward 'Great stuff'
A-sides 'Cool vibes! Liking both sides of this one., Shall rep :)'i
Basher 'Pure sickness'

Paper Dollhouse - The Sky Looks Different Here

Paper Dollhouse is the production alias of Astrud Steehouder and Nina Bosnic. Having previously recorded albums for Jane Weaver and Finders Keepers' Bird imprint, plus the Folklore Tapes and Night School labels. The Sky Looks Different Here arrives via the group's independently ran MoonDome imprint. Paper Dollhouse have collaborated and performed with artists including Old Apparatus, The Wolfhounds, Daniel O'Sullivan, Killing Sound, DB1, Joe Cocherell and Pye Corner Audio, and their music has been featured in mixes by Skee Mask, Mark Pritchard, Blackest Ever Black, Lobster Theremin, Lanark Artefax and Ancient Methods.

The Sky Looks Different Here features twelve tracks that draw parallels between the project's past roots in spidery post-punk electronica and a neon-lit, radioactive ambient pop sensibility. This has lead to the creation of what is sure to be the most concise and realised Paper Dollhouse record yet. One that mixes the group's signature brand of darkwave influenced left-field pop, urban field recordings and electronic composition.

Electric Indigo - 5 1 1 5 9 3

Digipack, 4C print w/ solid color. Cover artwork expands over all pages, liner notes inside.

2 x 12", silver grey vinyl

5 1 1 5 9 3 is the first full-length album release of Vienna based artist Electric Indigo, who started DJing in the late 1980s, worked at the legendary Hard Wax record store in the early 1990s, and effortlessly manages to entertain the dancing crowd at Berghain as much as the contemporary music avant-garde at Wien Modern.
5 1 1 5 9 3 combines influences of both worlds into a consistent and coherent album. Crystalline metallic objects collide, embedded into fractured endless spaces, sparse rhythmical syncopations shaping grids, holding sonic particles in place. Rare vocal transformations inject a human touch. 5 1 1 5 9 3 offers a unique universe, full of color and light, partially flirting with current club music and at other times diving deep into sublime sonic areas.

* Starting in 2014 as a collaboration between visual artist Heather Gabel and percussionist Seth Sher, the Chicago based industrial duo known simply as HIDE was formed. The following three years have seen HIDE crash through with a number of aggressively rendered singles and EP's while quietly collecting the shattered pieces that would form their debut full length album, Castration Anxiety.

* Those familiar with HIDE's provocative live performances will already be accustomed to the hypnotic low-end and sinister vocal delivery that has become the band's signature. The opening track, Fall Down, sets an eerie tone that permeates Castration Anxiety until the end. Throbbing pulses swirling around Gabel's death laden mantras succumb to themes harvesting power from desperation and hopelessness.

* The first single and video for Wildfire, keeps the same repetitive, dark emphasis but delves deeper into the ideas of the physical world rejecting its inhabitants. Harkening back to the slow, brooding industrial anthems from decades before, HIDE's treatment of this sound is notably unique as it is familiar.

* Tracks such as Fucked (I Found Heaven) and Bound/Severed ratchet up the tempo with a hedonistic dance floor séance. Each song ripping apart the ideas of empowerment and autonomy, throwing them back out to the audience in the form of Sher's addictive rhythms, shattered EBM-styled samples whipped at the end of a leash, held in check by Gabel's cathartic delivery.

* Wear Your Skin unveils HIDE in a disruptive personal state. Churning electronics stepping up to anthem-styled synth melodies, disrupted sparingly by incantations of Gabel's experiences about identity and obsession, blurring those themes into prophetic feedback.

* The past few years has seen HIDE touring nationally, playing alongside related acts such as ADULT., Ceremony and Champagne Mirrors, as well as providing main support for Marilyn Manson during The Pale Emperor tour.

* Dais Records presents HIDE Castration Anxiety' on March 23, 2018 in limited edition splatter and clear vinyl, as well as standard black vinyl and digital formats. Noel Brass Jr. - Broken Cloud Orchestra

* Over the last seven years, Noel Brass Jr. has been one of Seattle's most soulful and adventurous keyboardists, tirelessly exploring subtle variations on the music of the spheres, forever striving to express the sound of a love supreme. Both in the psychedelic soul-jazz unit Afrocop and as a solo performer, Brass reveals the improvisational mastery of a musician attuned to a profound celestial wavelength. You can hear this rarefied skill all over his debut album, Broken Cloud Orchestra.

* When the opening track Cortex Overflow' glows into life, you instantly feel your blood pressure lower. It's a gentle keyboard meditation seemingly composed of crystallized stardust, like Lonnie Liston Smith gone New Age. Day In Day Out' is as dainty as a music box motif, but imbued with subdued gospelized soulfulness and synth quasars reminiscent of obscure '70s Motown maverick Mandré. It's definitive inner-space music, ideal for ogling the constellations in a wistful mood. Tilted North' is slightly darker-hued and more abrasive than anything else on Broken Cloud Orchestra, but it's still contemplative and beautifully mellow.

* Eight Moons' offers a sanctified soulfulness that's almost unbearably light and nuanced. This is jazz that's ascended into an angelic state of grace. It is healing music that twinkles, whorls, and wafts in the same exalted airspace as the most cosmic New Age, sometimes approaching the gravitas of German mystics Popol Vuh. As for Prism Jousting,' imagine if Miles Davis' In A Silent Way were dissolved into its molecular ingredients—Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Joe Zawinul's luminous tones distilled into a lavender vapor.

* It takes a special breed of human to generate the sort of preternaturally beneficent and tranquil sounds heard on Broken Cloud Orchestra. Brass strives for a sort of sacred stillness in his compositions, achieving an ambient penumbra that's as translucent as it is transcendent. Creating music that both soothes and stimulates your higher mind is surpassingly difficult. But Broken Cloud Orchestra's 11 tracks—which all smoothly segue into one another—form velvet links in a chain that binds the record in a cohesive, sensuous sphere.

* All the expressiveness and feel is all I can give,' Brass says with regard to his creative impulses. It would be nice to see some goalposts moved in a weird age of soullessness.' Broken Cloud Orchestra subliminally does just that, from Brass' nimble hands to your ears.

"Land in the Sky' is an album by architect Alfredo Thiermann (formerly of Föllakzoid) and musician Tres Warren (Psychic Ills). It is the result of an extended sonic conversation between them that developed over the course of two years while both resided in different parts of the world. It is a friendship with a strong emphasis on sonic exchanges rather than other forms of communication. It was recorded in each of their domestic spaces and studios in Santiago de Chile and New York City - separate from one another and sent via email.

The music came together without prior discussion of direction. Tres recalls: Alfredo sent me some songs and asked me to play on them. He planted the seed, but he didn't say much. I think he might have mentioned slide guitar which I was playing a lot of at that time. I was entranced by Bruce Langhorne's music from the Western film 'The Hired Hand' and to me, this was an opportunity to explore something similar to that. A formless type of music, but one that is rooted in an early American tradition. I began playing freeform patterns over his piano but soon enough the sounds begin to intertwine. Even though we weren't in the same space making this together, a strong feeling began to come through regardless.

Alfredo remembers: I was entering a new place in my life. I was leaving my band, Föllkazoid, having my first son Pedro Tristán, and starting my architectural practice. I was trying to figure out a way to keep producing music and relate it to my interests as an architect. I've always been after a kind of space between the virtual and the actual. I thought that the repetitive and pattern-based piano songs that I was making at home could be understood as a kind of space —with its rhythms, its clear geometry, and its atmosphere. Then I decided to invite Tres —with whom I had toured the US a couple of months prior— to join this space' and have a kind of conversation through it. We ended up building this together.

The four 10-minute long tracks are the traces of their exchange of various emotional and mental states. They are prolonged and repetitive meditations composed by simple shapes and forms that almost act as a primitive language. Land in the Sky' is a sonic correspondence, an experiment bridging continental distances, an intangible and immaterial space, the space of music. Similarly intangible, the cover of the album is a contribution by the photographer James Welling, known for his photo on the cover of Sonic Youth's 'Bad Moon Rising.'

Moby - Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt

Moby has released a new single and video for Like a Motherless Child,' from his forthcoming album Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt. Featuring LA-based soulstress Raquel Rodriguez, Like a Motherless Child' is a re-work of the well-known spiritual, with its origins in the slavery of the American South. The track describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. Over the years this powerful song has been reinterpreted by the likes of Odetta, Lena Horne, Mahalia Jackson and Van Morrison. The album is a glowing tapestry exploring spirituality, individuality and the brokenness of humanity and finds him returning to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop and gospel roots.

  • 5: Song Ii: Right, Off The Beat—Negative Ions

A few years ago, American composer and trombonist PETER ZUMMO discovered a 1984 recording of unreleased material from his Six Songs suite in his archive. Six Songs was the basis for LATERAL PASS (Foom 2014), his award winning score for modern-dance choreographer Trisha Brown's work of the same name. Material taken from Six Songs can also be heard on his seminal ZUMMO WITH AN X (Loris Bend, 1985/Optimo 2012).

The work is now being released as a new LP, FRAME LOOP. Recorded live and in single takes, it features a stellar line-up of longtime ZUMMO collaborators: ARTHUR RUSSELL on amplified cello, BILL RUYLE on marimba, and MUSTAFA AHMED on congas. ZUMMO plays trombone and euphonium.

ZUMMO describes the recording as 'an exercise in spontaneous arrangement'. He mainly hews close to the score, while from time to time introducing canonic lines and variations. ARTHUR RUSSELL, using his signature amplified cello sound, alternates between solos and rhythm playing. BILL RUYLE vamps on the notation, while MUSTAFA AHMED's improvised percussion drives the forward momentum. Sometimes the music takes its time traversing a sonic landscape, at other points, it jumps from one section to another. Players' decisions push and pull the downbeat, rounds emerge, then disappear.

PITCHFORK have previously called ZUMMO's trombone work peerless' and have described his music as the sound of sublimity...that sends shivers down the nervous system.' In an interview with THE QUIETUS, OPTIMO's JD TWITCH characterised ZUMMO's playing as sheer bliss.' In addition to performing his own compositions and leading his own ensembles, ZUMMO has worked with myriad bands, orchestras, composers and musicians. His celebrated trombone style is recognized as one of the most beloved features of ARTHUR RUSSELL's sound, for whom he played and collaborated with in the recording studio. Among many others are PETER GORDON and his LOVE OF LIFE ORCHESTRA, drummerproducer TOM SKINNER (Hello Skinny), cellist-composer/producer OLIVER COATES, the LOUNGE LIZARDS, including the recording of TEO MACERO's Fusion, which also featured the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Downtown Ensemble. He lives in New York City.

There are few words that can truly capture the experience of Monument Valley 2. It poignantly captures the magic, heartbreak and eternal bond of mother & child through not only its architecturally complex puzzles, but also, its inspiring soundtrack.

ustwo games and iam8bit are so very ecstatic to present composer Todd Baker's (Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet series) elegantly subtle, yet richly tapestried music on vinyl, recalling the aural journey, from adolescence to adulthood, on two beautifully translucent discs. The minimalist approach to packaging holds deeper meaning, thanks to a clever application of the jacket's diecut windows. Delicate yet delectable, grab this album to create maximum auditory pleasure within your very own zen den.

Boris Bunnik is no stranger in the worl d of electronic music. He released several albums and ep's under a variety of monikers since 2007 on labels like Delsin, Shipwrec, Frustrated Funk and his own Transcendent imprint. Fauxpas Musik welcomes him for a new project called Severnaya. Originally hailing from the Island of Terschelling, the most Northern and remote part of the Netherlands he now made a piece of music dedicated to this special place. Severnaya means north in Russian and refers to the bright frozen landscapes of the northern archipels. Boris often plays with the influences and elements of ambient in his music. If we have to believe the man himself, Polar Skies is his most personal sound trajectory to come from his mind. Drum programming is scarce and what remains is a lush and profound listening experience floating on scapes and melodies. We clearly hear his roots and intentions represented in the airy, tranquil sound design of this new album project. Things sound spacious, and life is at ease in these melancholic compositions. Crispy crackling percussions and icey pads place you in the midst of a resonant arctic landscape. You can hear influences drawn from producers like Biosphere, Pub, Brian Eno but we also hear more contemporary influences from modern day film composition but most of all we here Boris his own signature. The tracks were composed over a couple of years (2015-2017) in a more contemplative mindset. At some point this selection formed a consistent piece of music and as a result you hear his most personal and fragile works to date. Fauxpas Musik is proud to release this new project in 2018. written and produced by Boris Bunnik aka Conforce at the PasadenaOceanlab Studios Special thanks to family, friends and Fauxpas

Wayang 2x12"

OFFEN MUSIC
08.02.2018

90s material from the man also responsible for the Rex Illusivii material we've been adoring here. Stunning again. Download Code Included. Artwork by Emilija Radojicic. TIP!
.
'Otherworldly, poetic, imaginative and full of exploratory spirit: the music of Mitar Subotic aka Rex Illusivii aka Suba is somewhere out there. Pure spheres of sound, ruled by absolute expression and a sounding language beyond our notion of a language.

Now Offen Music reveals another unknown chapter of his large archive. This time it's a Suba record, an alias Subotic started to use already in the late 1980s in Yugoslavia. It became prominent after his relocation in São Paulo in the late 1990s, where he became one of Brazil's most demanded producers of the time. Wayang' was conducted in 1995, just shortly after Suba produced an album together with his old Yugoslavian friend Milan Mladenovic under the project name Angel's Breath. Their record unites ambient, world grooves, polyrhythms, haunting synth lines, post-punk, funk, reggae, dub, Asian melodies and vocal experiments all turned into a demanding, yet slightly pop story arc for open minded searchers. Somehow the Angel's Breath is discreet mirrored in Wayang', that was recorded in Suba's Wah Wah Studio in São Paulo, Brazil. The album features eleven tunes of whom each single one dances in its very own pipe dream. You hear particles of classic, tripping trip hop, minimal music madness, drone psychology, African percussions, the sound of a jungle, all-consuming Wagnerism, tragically moving psychedelic, tribal neo wave, Balearic desire, ethnic pureness, industrial rudeness, traces of Alan Lomax and the Smithsonian Folkways world as well as syncopated polyrhythmic adventures, religious chants, sample experiments, mumbling synthesizers and even techno. It's all there and as if time hasn't moved on, its sounds fresher than fresh. Music that has been produced with no specific audience in mind, only guided by sound and the dimensions it is able to create. Consequentially it seeks for a listener that is willing to surrender, to feel the many particles of Suba's divine musical imagination beyond the common grounds. You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.' Oscar Wilde once said. Suba is singing these songs without using his own voice. He chants with sounds, found voices and unheard rhythms. If Wayang' would have been released during the times of its origin, Mo Wax music would have sounded frumpy and Warp would have loved to drop it for its fierce musical attitude.

If someone now says, it is easy to judge backwards, we recommend to listen and jump irrevocably forwards. It will be a sublime, sparkling, spiritual, impressive, thrilling journey that elevates its listeners to a place of inspiration and enlightenment.' Michael Leuffen, November 2017

Bisweed - Into The Weald Ep

* Making his debut on Subaltern with SUBALT014 is Estonian producer Bisweed, famous for his trippy and intricate sound design and original take on bass music. A psychotropic journey into the weald, this is a typically dark and surreal release from the well-established Subaltern imprint.

* Shelter
Sinister sounds welcome the listener to the journey as we enter the weald. Dark synths lead into weighty bass-lines, embedded in driving percussive elements and a spine-chilling atmosphere. Tasteful orchestral elements accompany before reaching a climax of tribal percussion and pure bass. Bisweed's musical sensibility and dance-floor know-how blend symbiotically to create this heavy yet soulful bass music masterpiece.

* Swamp
Going deeper, haunting textures guide the listener into a pulsating implosion of low frequencies, which is bound to shake up the dance as well as your expectations of a quiet night in. Rumbling and chopping wobbles complete a captivating piece of sound system music. Tread lightly so you don't sink in too deep - the swamp might just consume you.

* Dolmen feat. Mentha
Like stepping into a clearing, Dolmen lightens the mood - but only ever so slightly. Chanting voices hail the listener, as wide planes of sound unfold into a bass-heavy yet deep stepper. Subtly and slowly, Bisweed is masterfully transitioning into a soothing and melodic vibe, featuring label head honcho Mentha on Guitar.

Black Mecha - Counterforce

Black Mecha

Counterforce

12inchPFL194
Profound Lore
Release unknown

ithout doubt one of the most idiosyncratic artists working between Black Metal and electronic music, Wold's Fortress Crookedjaw dials in a blinding new Black Mecha album from the very limits of intergalactic techgnostic perception with Counterforce.

After initiating the project via AA for The Death of Rave, successive Black Mecha releases for Profound Lore and their own Internal Masonry Publications have plotted inimitably technoid new routes for hypnotic electronic music, expressing a densely raw, vivid hyperstition thru a disciplined rendering of arcane geometry, conceptual ballistic proprioception, and brutalist sci-fi themes.

Essentially, Black Mecha is making some of the most far out techno in the world right now, and he's not even a techno artist. Where this past decade has seen a gaggle of roughshod interlopers offer shabby chic, defanged takes on techno, Black Mecha has sharpened his alien incisors with deadly intent and effect, producing a highly personalised music which applies just as well to proper, extreme, eyes-in-back-of-head transcendence as times of stone cold sober focus.

In that sense, Counterforce reaches where even the hardest nEuro techno bosch fests fail to deliver, as Black Mecha circumvents hard techno's rote formula of 4-to-the-floor kicks and predictable filtering in favour of harnessing brain-eating hooks in a durational torrent of mainlining, shark-eyed rhythms and pineal-pinch noise which deliver an untrammelled, breathlessly anaerobic experience where the only predictable aspect is that the engines will keep combusting until this part of the mission is complete and the receiver is transformed.

Of course it's not for everybody. But then again, what the f^ck is You can take it on trust that if you're prone to the heaviest, elemental rhythm and noise, Counterforce offers an unmissable space to immolate the senses.

Repress!

Cassius Select returns to Accidental Jnr with another 12' to follow on from last years '90 / HERD' EP. He once again straddles the genres somewhere between techno, bassline and hardcore. ESSENCE is a huge rave cut of broken snare beats and shuffled kicks alongside Select's trademark idiosyncratic vocal snippets. The B-side offers up SHAOLIN SOCCER a post-dubstep wobble at a house tempo followed by HYPE HOUR another piece of broken suedo rave hardcore.

The EP is something of a gift to his brothers for their musical influence on him as the Australian based producer explains in his own words:

Much of my musical upbringing is related to my family, I owe my early influences to my two older brothers. skimming off their mix CDs, sculpting out what 'cool' meant. the eldest is a drummer and in retrospect, i think a lot of the Cassius project is maybe an attempt to impress him again. shaolin soccer is in reference to the 90s blockbuster of the same name, where we derived a lot of our own interpersonal humour. i keep going back to that world we built between the 3 of us. in the simplest way this is a gift to the both of them.'

Secret Artist - Topp003 Lp

New project and new label from the creators of the fantastic 808 Box, Fundamental Records. There are many details that make this project something really unique. These records will become classics if they are not already!. The music of every record is very special, also the artwork and the technic use to print each sleeve, but the concept behind this project something you need to understand, as you can read in the website everything is based in two factors:First, to provide the artist with complete anonymity in order to create in absolute freedom.Second, to offer the listener the work of the artist without any external distortions. The use of words to describe or define music is a senseless task. Most of the time the intention of descriptive text is not to shed light on the work of the artist, but rather to serve as a promotional tool to drive sales and increase recognition. This often has the unfortunate result of limiting the creator and his work. Music is all we need, any other additives are completely dispensable.- This project is an experiment.- Only six artists are part of this project.- The identity of the artists involved in the project will remain private but they are free to reveal their identity after some time, even if we would prefer they didn't (that is the reason we provide a special code in the back of each record)- The artists involved in the project are not aware of the identity of the other artists.- During the following 12 months we will periodically release 12 records: 11 x 12 and the last one, a special 7- Each record is a full album, a trip into the mind of the artist. There is no need for 'perfected' tracks as this is not a collection of hits compiled on a 12' for massive sales. We asked each artist to work without any limitations or expectations that their previous 'sound' might impose. In this way the artist may expose ones true self in the music or choose to demonstrate another side of their creative self.We strongly recommend to take some time and read about this project at their site:

This is the 2nd installment of Sable Noir recordings: the Jojoe EP, a 4 track vinyl exploring a deeper, sometimes darker minded side of the 170 spectrum.

The first 2 tracks by Jojoe are some really deep, clean, and strong tunes, and also dancefloor destroyers, we saved them for years until finding the right idea to release them and this is whats happening now with this vinyl.

The first track untitled is a deep and dark minimalistic tune with a really strong bassline and some great cuts that makes it a fantastic dj tool for your sets.

The second track "97" is a clean and deep tune driven by some analog pads and a reese bass that will make a great job on any
systems!! Watch out for the switch in the second drop!!

The 2 tracks on the B-side are by Joakuim the first one "To Chant Down Babylon" is a halftempo dub influenced tune @ 170 bpm with a strong vocal sample and dubby bassline! The last track "Snow" leads you onto a world of deep and cold atmospheres with a rolling beat and bassline!

This vinyl is done in the memory of Joe Holland, beloved friend and music producer. This EP is done for him!!

A vital figure in Iran's underground music scene, Mahdyar's dauntless electronic architecture fuses restless fractal beat structures with warped Persian motifs and instrumentation. The Tehran-born producer's longanticipated debut 'Seized' comes more than a decade since Mahdyar made his initial mark as a teenager producing the majority of the newly emerged Persian Hip Hop movement at the age of 16.

Retaining the grit and urgency of his hip-hop roots, Mahdyar sonically aims further off-the grid building crushing, feral soundscapes in constant flux. Dark and provocative, 'Seized's frenetic energy reveals itself slowly and purposefully.

Mahdyar's ambitious first full-length offering 'Seized' rhythmically structures itself along the contours of middle eastern traditional music and hip-hop, weaving mournful complex sound collages that blur the line between its acoustic and digital sources. Frenetic compositions continually build, reshuffle, and take a new divergent path with each reset.

Czechoslovakian band Máma Bubo was founded by Karel Babuljak in 1982; he put together five friends that he trusted. Having been more or less groping in the dark of music until then, Babuljak suddenly expressed a clear musical and human opinion to which the other members of Máma Bubo added theirs. A new band was born and although it had a clear face, it did not fit in anywhere, was hard to be connected with anything, and was isolated despite its openness. Máma Bubo always guaranteed an extraordinary and shocking experience which surpassed the level of entertainment. 1985: Babuljak's disenchantment with the social situation as well as with artistic futility compelled him to a more profound attitude which resulted in a totally different concept, PLANETA HAJ, for Máma Bubo; yet, the concept was short-lived as if having been born in a place it did not fit in. In 2017, 2 LP of PLANETA HAJ, a record from 1985, was released on vinyl for the first time.

The Sprawl (logos, Mumdance & Shapednoise) - Ep2

William Gibson's prophetic sci-fi novel Neuromancer inspires Mumdance, Logos and Shapednoise to sensational new heights on their 2nd EP in The Sprawl trilogy for The Death of Rave. The trio's EP2 is all about 'Data Flow', or the relay of information between software, hardware and its human agents, triangulating The Sprawl as biologic semiconductors in a quantum network of emerging AI consciousness, parsing their corrupted memory flashbacks of physical ecstasy, excess and synaptic muscle memory into premonitory visions of future hardcore rave.
Arriving at the project's midway point, equidistant to futures past and the singularity, the trio's 2nd cybernetic merger generates pivotal plot twists and an expanded palette of styles in flux between virulent mutations of noise torque, hardcore techno and sci-fi cinematic memes.
Across its four tracks, each producer's recognisable characteristics are strategically subsumed, consolidated to an inseparable, if fractious, energy that describes and manifests the themes and energies of William Gibson's prescient cyberpunk fiction in hyperstitious form.
The A-side picks up directly from EP1 with the synaesthetically-enhanced sensations of Burning Chrome, titled in reference to one of Gibson's first short stories set in the fictional dimension of The Sprawl - the first to coin the word 'cyberspace' - with a turbulent roil of bruxist shockwaves unpredictably punctuated by lush pads, before the cyberpunk terror of Black I.C.E. hacks into the nervous system with visceral, arrhythmic dynamic.
On the B-side, the story really shifts up a gear or five with X System, a breathlessly brutal 150bpm techno assault that sounds like late '90s Dutch rave or NYC bunker techno dialled in via faulty ISDN connection, which makes for a steep contrast with the shocking emotive pathos of the EP closer Online Seance, where the trio fulminate a transcendent vision of cinematic synth noise redolent of Leyland Kirby's Intrigue & Stuff series, but with a vicious digital edge and serontonin-frying euphoria of their own imagineering.
This is the sound of The Sprawl really coming into their own as a thrilling, innovative, and boundary-probing prospect within the noise techno nexus.

Based on a small inspiration by Kudo Tori, with additional material added from the voicemail recordings made by Hashizaka Ai (and her family) and from a Maher Shalal Hash Baz 30th anniversary show in Shinjuku, to make up three levels of sound.

Hashizaka's sounds are full of the highly entropic sadness of northern Wakayama and Maher at Shinjuku sounds like they were a little angry.

Kudo-san says that he picked up a sense of blankness and kindness from these fragments. Something like the feeling you get at an out of the way bookstore that has a nice collection of books, or at a small cheap bar that features fried organ meat, or a bakery, or taking a long trip, or when you're extremely busy with cooking, cleaning, housework and child care, or other real experiences that make life worth living.

Black Sun Empire & State Of Mind - The Violent Five

Repress

When heavyweights collide in any arena there's always going to be fireworks, and The Violent Five EP sees two such goliaths, Black Sun Empire and State Of Mind, go head-to-head across six dark-edged dancefloor killers.

Black Sun Empire have long been a fan favourite when it comes to tough breaks and decimating basslines. The Dutch collective have been producing seminal hits since what feels like the dawn of time and show no signs of slowing down. Traverse the globe and touch down in New Zealand and you have the birthplace of another drum & bass behemoth, State Of Mind; a duo so influential that if you were to pick the name of a top D&B label from a hat it's likely that Pat & Stu have released music with them.

All too often we see these sorts of collaborations creating a false positive, but not in the case of The Violent Five EP. From the offset, it is clear that each party has brought their relative strengths to the table and put a stark focus on the implementation of those abilities for maximum effect. The beats pound through driving bass and the atmosphere created from the sheer energy of each track is literally electric.

Dijf Sanders - Java

DE W.E.R.F.
15.02.2018

Belgian musician Dijf Sanders pens and produces soundtracks for distant, far-flung places that brood with exotica, psychedelia, jazz and electronica. His new album 'JAVA', is a psychedelic and modern search for the sounds of the homonymous Indonesian island. Armed with a set of field recorders, Dijf traveled to every urban and rural corner of Indonesia in the spring of this year. As a contemporary incarnation of ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax, he collected an impressive repertory of recordings, commissioned by the Europalia Arts Festival and KAAP Creative Compass. 'Kacapi', 'Kendang', 'Angklung', 'Calung' or 'Gamelan' are not the names of indigenous tropical diseases by the way, but those of local instruments that Dijf encountered on his adventurous musical quest. For two weeks the American expert ethnographer Palmer Keen stood by Dijf through his total immersion into the island's colourful culture and rich, ceremonial traditions. On his return to Belgium, Dijf headed straight back into the studio with the gathered material and invited some of his musical soulmates to put the icing on the cake. It is no coincidence that the three guests - Nathan Daems, Filip Vandebril and Simon Segers - are all part of Black Flower, a band that famously flirts with Oriental sounds. From hours and hours of field recordings, Dijf distilled ten psychedelic pieces which ride on waves of ecstasy and trance, and bridge the gap between two worlds. Tribal rhythms and warm melodies are fused to a seamless and beautiful musical work in utopia. The Brugge-born, Gentbrugge-based musician is one of those great Flemish talents. In the past, he earned his stripes with Teddiedrum and The Violent Husbands and has produced bands like Kenji Minogue and Blackie & The Oohoos. He has also released music under his own name including the critically acclaimed album 'Moonlit Planetarium'. Welcome to Dijf Sanders' wonderful journey into future exotica.

Secret Artist - Topp001 Lp

Music is all we need, any other additives are completely dispensable. This project is an experiment.Only six artists are part of this project. The identity of the artists involved in the project will remain private but they are free to reveal their identity after some time, even if we would prefer they didn't (that is the reason we provide a special code in the back of each record) The artists involved in the project are not aware of the identity of the other artists.During the following 12 months we will periodically release 12 records: 11 x 12 and the last one, a special 7 Each record is a full album, a trip into the mind of the artist. There is no need for 'perfected' tracks as this is not a collection of hits compiled on a 12' for massive sales. We asked each artist to work without any limitations or expectations that their previous 'sound' might impose. In this way the artist may expose ones true self in the music or choose to demonstrate another side of their creative self.

27.06.2016

This is the remix edition of Dino Sabatini's recent second album "Omonimo" (April 2016, Outis Music).Like the recent album, this EP "Concentrica" features renowned Italian veteran pianist/accordionist Antonello Salis on the tracks "If" and "It All Ends Here", albeit here in different versions. Out of these two tracks the former is on "Concentrica" reworked by Dino Sabatini and the latter in a collaborative live variation between Salis and Dino Sabatini. Simultaneously with the announcement of "Concentrica" was it announced that Dino and Antonello are launching their new live project: Dino Sabatini & Antonello Salis present 'Electronic Opera Concentrica'. Howie B is veteran producer mainly known as a purveyor of early trip hop, having produced cuts from Tricky's debut album, Björk's "Post" and "Homogenic" as well as other major like U2.
After inaugurating the 'Opera' sub-series of his Outis Music label with the sublime 'Omonimo' double LP this April, Dino Sabatini has invited some choice allies to help define the vocabulary and expand the vision of the new imprint. The aforementioned album, which wove together Sabatini's atmospheric conjuring skill with the piano flourishes of Antonello Salis, already exhibits the label's commitment to dismantling the 'either-or' logic of contemporary genres by successfully merging a variety of supposedly irreconcilable styles, talents, and worldviews (e.g. both mythological and the technological perspectives). The follow-up EP, 'Concentrica', draws on the material from 'Omonimo' and delivers it into the hands of additional remixers in order to continue the Outis Opera voyage.

Rebore Kid - Rebore Riddim

The 'Rebore Kid' EP follows up the release of 'Campaign' on Boxed004 with 4 DJ friendly club-tools made entirely of gun shots, proxy mines and homing missile sound effects - with the odd kick to remind you what traditional club trax should sound like - early support comes from the likes of Grandmixxer, Logos, Spooky & Oil Gang.

Across the 4-tracks Rebore Kid reimagines grime classics 'Straight', 'Lucky 7' as well as liberating the legendary OG 'Rebore Riddim'. The EP is available on 200 x hand-stamped white labels, each individually numbered by the man himself (so it's a bit like an autograph).

Various - Selectors Assemble Volume 2

Brand new year, brand new imprint. CoOp Presents is an all-new record label, founded by IG Culture and Alex Phountzi, set to focus on the depth and wealth of talent that exists within the London Bruk movement and beyond, a project which they consider to be a continuation in the same spirit of the legendary CoOp movement.

Last Summer, the CoOp Presents crew released an EP via First Word Records entitled 'Selectors Assemble'. This was the first collective offering from a foundation comprised of UK dance music pioneers and nowadays bruk soldiers, navigating in & around the world of broken beat and beyond over the last two decades to the present day. Reinvigorated by recent Boiler Room sessions, the crew proceeded with more parties, more radio shows, and gained access to an unlimited pool of all-new sounds. The squad were primed and ready to move forwards from the famed days of the Plastic People dances, and further explore the evolution of their sound.

Selectors Assemble exists as an umbrella to showcase talent from originators and newcomers alike, transcending genres and geographics. Over the summer, more members were introduced to the clique, and it was clear there was much more work to be done. So we proceed. Setting it off, we bring you 'Selectors Assemble Volume Two'. The first six-track selection from the stable for 2018.

James Rudie opens the selection with 'Port Funk', a soulful 4/4 stomper, adrift with jazz licks and weighty bassline. Danvers up next with 'My Nina', a deep vibesy breakbeat opener that chops away, flipping its groove several times through the track. EVM128 steps up & steps in with the no-messin' tough tribal bounce of the 'Gamma Riddim' next. Cengiz opens up the flipside of the plate with some straight up bruk-funk that rides 'On On On'. Entek enters the dance with a twisted swagger and next level sonics on 'Robbery', ticking numerous groove boxes, before we approach the final cut from N15's own Miraa May, on the soulful flex of 'I Don't Want Ya (Didi)'. The rub on this last one coming courtesy of label founders, NameBrandSound aka IG Culture and Alex Phountzi.

Selectors Assemble appear on rotation monthly on Worldwide FM, as well as numerous other shows and dances individually, including upcoming parties at The Jazz Cafe, and the formation of a new base, The Flex, a multi purpose warehouse space in East London. The movement is only destined to grow. The stage for 2018 is set. Get involved.

Fossil Aerosol Mining Project - August 53rd

The Fossil Aerosol Mining Project continues their post-industrial dialectics through their "songs of enhanced decay and faked resurrection." This cryptic ensemble from the American Midwest has been quietly producing such works since the '80s, with a deep catalogue highlighting a uniform brilliance in the exquisite reconstruction of exhumed cassette tapes and moldering 35mm film stock.

On August 53rd, Fossil Aerosol has collaged their reclamations of found sounds into an inquisitive, dynamic cinema of the ear. The tape loops and recombinant samples create elliptical orbits and vertiginous spirals. Down-pitched, disquieting rumbles form the foundations for much of Fossil Aerosol's compositions, which mutate the fractured, crumbled, and mildewed artifacts into patterned yet shifting phrases. The result seems like hybrid, time-compressed mimicry of the evolution of our media-driven language.

The official statement from the ensemble reads as such:
"This album, arranged specifically for Helen Scarsdale, might be considered a prequel to The Day 1982 Contaminated 1971, featuring the damaged remains of certain pop culture pleasantries in a less decomposed state than found on the previous vinyl release. August 53rd, a month extended to accommodate a changing climate, predates the day 1982 contaminated 1971."

Such inquiries characterize the many non/fictions that contextualize the work of Fossil Aerosol. Through the process of decoding lost melodies and dialog of the 1960s, '70s, and '80s, Fossil Aerosol intentionally or unintentionally deflates the vanity of consumerism while at the same time providing an archaeological view of contemporary culture.

These conceptual frameworks would be meaningless if Fossil Aerosol did not deliver on the aesthetics. And deliver the Project most certainly does. August 53rd harbors the rich enigmas of distressed sound collages found in the work of likeminded artists such as Philip Jeck, Felicia Atkinson, and of course Fossil Aerosol's occasional collaborators :zoviet*france:.

Noted photographer Michael Eastman (Vanishing America, Havana) contributed the artwork used for the cover of the album, specifically selecting imagery from decaying landscapes of the American Midwest.

Apollo proudly presents the debut from Haramia Tapes, a new mysterious side project from renowned Hungarian electronic music producer Laurine Frost.
More usually known for his refined techno sensibilities, Frost has packed 'Pfunk' with deftly programmed rhythmic structures and infused it with low slung bass and jazzy textures that make for a sumptuous, enveloping listening experience, ideal for fans of Nonkeen, Jazzanova or Leftfield.
'Pfunk' contains seven unique beat sessions - smooth funk, crossed with unique broken rhythms, live drums, bass and found sounds - shot through with cinematic melancholy.
From the elegiac piano of opener 'I Am You' to the twisted drunken breaks of 'Pfunk' to the cooled out percussion and spaced atmospheres of 'Hail', or the moody spy-movie atmospherics of Farewell Four - this is an album that traverses a variety of moods and textures, effortlessly fusing traditional instrumentation with modern electronics and a perfect addition to Apollo's beguiling canon of mellowed out grooves.

Jean-luc Guionne & Daichi Yoshikawa - Intervivos
  • 1: Intervivos I
  • 2: Intervivos Ii
  • 3: Intervivos Iii
  • 4: Intervivos Iv

Ltd. to 500 copies, 180 gram vinyl, letterpress on Foldkraft paper sleeve, incl. 12-page full-size booklet

Empty Editions presents Jean-Luc Guionnet and Daichi Yoshikawa's collaborative debut, Intervivos. Recorded during a week-long residency at Hong Kong's Empty Gallery, Intervivos (Latin for between the living'), refers to the vital and unexpected acoustic synergy that developed between Guionnet's extended alto saxophone techniques and Yoshikawa's feedback systems during these sessions.

Although Guionnet and Yoshikawa both come from prolific backgrounds in free jazz and electroacoustic improvisation - Guionnet plays in The Ames Room with Will Guthrie and Clayton Thomas and Yoshikawa studied with AMM's Eddie Prevost - Intervivos sees them developing an approach to improvising which seeks to escape the increasingly narrow stylistic confines of these musical provinces. The album is characterized by a brutal foregrounding of process and material lacking from the experimental music of so many of their contemporaries. Rather than seeking refinement or resolution through existing structures, Guionnet and Yoshikawa prioritize a sort of collaborative musical searching in which the aural entanglement, layering and folding of their scorched intonations creates an emergent musical form - a non-linear music which sounds both ancient and futuristic.

Corruscating alto saxophone riffs appear suddenly, before disintegrating amidst slabs of feedback and flurries of metallic percussion. Other times, Yoshikawa and Guionnet conjure shifting clouds of sustained tones from the timbral meshing of their instruments - yielding a sound somewhere between the dense textures of Iancu Dumitrescu and the floating harmonics of Gagaku. Far from improvisation as we know it, this album instead gestures towards a speculative electronic' music created through the ritualistic misuse of acoustic instruments. Intervivos is a fierce, undecorated triumph in the ruinous expression of instruments - exalted in both its turbulence, and in its extreme testing of improvisational reality. Put summarily by Seymour Wright in the album's liner notes: You don't need me to tell you how it sounds, or how to listen (...) this record begins when you play it.'

The release is mastered by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring artwork by Jean-Luc Guionnet and 12- page liner notes by saxophonist Seymour Wright. The LP is produced in an edition of 500 on 180 gram vinyl in a letterpress on Foldkraft paper sleeve.

Jean-Luc Guionnet is a Parisian artist whose practice encompasses composition, improvisation, filmmaking, and philosophy. He has toured extensively as a solo saxophonist, and has spent the past 15 years performing on on historic church organs around the world. For him, music is one of many methods by which to test reality. Having studied musique concrète under Iannis Xenakis, his acousmatic sensitivities reveal themselves through the reverence that guides these interrogations. Approaching his instruments as imperfect vehicles of artificial intelligence, his attentive engagement applies speculative pressure to the expressive limits of their material properties. In his hands, design flaws and repressed qualities transform into catalysts for novel sonic emanations, and the simplest of processes are mobilized to extract infinitesimal acoustic detail. Although a formidable solo performer, Guionnet is no stranger to collaboration. In addition to his ongoing relationship to the seminal French improvisation group Hubbub, he has worked extensively with artists such as Taku Unami, Eric La Casa, Toshimaru Nakamura, Will Guthrie, and Mattin.

Daichi Yoshikawa is a Japanese sound artist based in London and Berlin. A former student of AMM co-founder Eddie Prevost and sound artist David Toop, Yoshikawa's distinct sound comes from feedback systems generated between homemade assemblages of speakers, contact microphones, and various found objects. Developing his ability as an improviser through years of attendance at Prevost's weekly workshops, Yoshikawa is singularly unique in his facility to wield electronic feedback as an instrument capable of both dialogic potential and genuine musicality in a group setting. Combining the collaborative sensitivity of a player like Toshimaru Nakamura with a techno and noise-derived penchant for enamel-peeling feedback tones and lurching metallic rhythms, Yoshikawa's electroacoustic practice creates brutalist landscapes of sound from the space between noise and silence. Yoshikawa is also part of the ensemble llln, a London-based group with Seymour Wright and Paul Abbott, and has collaborated with Joel Grip, Antonin Gerbal, Samo Kutin, Lee Patterson and Rie Nakajima.

Following a stunning recent Boiler Room performance, Nanook of the North take a deep sonic and conceptual trip northbound on their enchanting, eponymous debut album, via Denovali Records.
Nanook of the North are Stefan Wesolowski and Piotr Kalinski (also known as Hatti Vatti) - two acclaimed Polish musicians whose simpatico merging of compositional roles are blended as seamlessly as their use of acoustic and electronic sounds. Recording sessions broadly found Stefan playing violin and piano parts with additional synth touches and Piotr taking care of electronics, more synths and the final mix. Upon being invited by the Sopot Film Festival next to their hometown of Gdansk to perform an improvised score to a film screening, the duo chose Robert J. Flaherty's classic 1922 silent movie of the same name - 'Nanook of the North'. Keen to maintain and nurture the initial ambient essence of the film, the duo travelled to Iceland where they recorded the album in Reykjavík and later mixed it in Greenland.

Despite the icy expansive isolation captured from the movie, the album is also transferrable in scenario and evocation, equally omitting the dangerous allure of dystopian cityscapes, or even the 80s sci-fi horror menace of Maurice Jarre, Howare Shore and Jay Chattaway.

'Nanook of the North' runs the gamut of images, scenarios and atmosphere akin to scenes in a film. Opening with a window into the unknown, the mood carries from the darkly foreboding, 'Siulleq' into the dank, dread-filled kosmische of 'Tulleq' over the slow nocturnal drive through a techno metropolis of 'Afternat' to the gargantuan foreboding awe of 'Qulingat', which seems to suggest the story is far from over.

Stefan Wesolowski is a violinist and composer best known for work with Jacaszek, his score to the BAFTA-nominated, Oscar-shortlisted Marlon Brando docu-film 'Listen To Me Marlon' and for his rapturous, critically acclaimed album 'Rite of the End'.

Piotr Kalinski (also known as Hatti Vatti) - is one of the Polish underground's most vital figures. Renowned for for his analogue-focused sounds, this experimenter/explorer has been on a decade long excursion through vast and heterogeneous modern electronic realms.

Previous praise for Stefan Wesolowski:

Haunted, cavernous and horribly satisfying' (Uncut)

Awe-inspiring music that soars through dread, sorrow, joy and every emotion in between. A stunning and poignant inward journey' (XLR8R)

Instrumental evocations of loss and Decay, and monumental progressions through cavernous spaces. Wilting melodies are hemmed in by resonant menace, dissipated through drifting clouds of bowed tones or punctuated by ominous percussive thuds' (The Wire)

This is spiritual music, we hear this in the deliberate pacing, the yearning of the violins, the harmonic highs - but also in the droning lows, the earthly electronics, the tactile immediacy of the interface between heaven and earth' (A Closer Listen)

Previous praise for Hatti Vatti:

"The record sees the producer combining a vast array of samples with his set-up of hardware and other tools, creating a record that covers numerous sounds, operating at times between ambient and bass-heavy genres such as footwork and juke' (The Quietus)

Hatti Vatti is an underground hero amongst an intricate scene. A musician with fine tact and attention to detail, pared back to its barest essentials. Well-crafted and listenable" (The Ransom Note)

Randall Mcclellan - The Healing Music Of Rana Vol. 2

Exceptional recordings by this New age maestro. Only recently re-discovered by his friend JD emmanuel & the band Sun Araw. Originally released on cassette in 1983 and now for the first time available on 180gr. Vinyl. For fans of joanna brouk, JD Emmanuel and Iasos

Randall McClellan was a founding member of the electronic music studio at the Eastman School of Music in 1967 where he later received a Ph.D. in Composition, Theory and Musicology. A growing interest in North Indian music and vocal technique prompted him to develop his personal compositional practice into an active platform for inducing altered states of mind. He constructed his concerts to be spaces for harmonization of mind and body through a musical practice informed by his esoteric studies of ancient mystery schools and sacred geometry, believing these to be primarily teachings on intentional resonance.

These performances were given between 1977 and 1983 in semi-darkened spaces that allowed listeners to relax on carpeting while being enveloped by sound. Each improvisation lasts from twenty-five to forty-five minutes. An entire performance is up to three hours and is designed to provide an environment of meditative sound. They gained in popularity and were soon attended by larger audiences. His final live performance took place at New York City's Alternative Museum in October, 1983.

The Music of Rana' Enviromental Series uses synthesizers, drone box, tamboura, voice and tape delay to create an environment of continuously evolving multi-layered melody. Described as subtle, graceful and of other worlds. The name RANA, meaning Sunbreath', has its origin in ancient philosophical concepts that recognized vibration as the fundamental creative force and central principle of the many esoteric mystery schools of the ancient world. It is now evident that the use of music for its ability to alter mind states and for its effectiveness as a therapeutic aid was music's original purpose and an important concept of these mystery schools. In the broadest sense, the practice of music for its healing ability may well stand as our oldest continuous musical tradition.

This album is the second volume in the series, previously issued as a cassette in 1983, and part of the cassette box set published by Sun Ark in 2013. This music is based on principles outlined in Randall's book, The Healing Forces of Music: History, Theory and Practice. These compositions are selected for their meditational and healing abilities. EQ settings of treble and bass levels determine the music's effect upon you. Please explore until the most comfortable settings are found.

Ricochet Screen is the first proper LP from New York based TINT (aka Zane Morris). Encompassed as an overview of his solo recordings dating as far back as 2007, Ricochet Screen unfolds as a storied arc on the obsessiveness of composition, conception and mechanism. Culled from ad hoc recordings in vacant industrial buildings, lunchroom cafeterias and bedroom studios, the record functions as a meditative associative collage regarding a rebounding from omnipresent glass monitors, intrusive security measures and indeterminate barriers.

And what a project it has become: Le Doux, heads first, dived deep into the Belgian national history of electronic music, and came up with a   sampler covering the various fields the Belgians have explored over the last 30 years.
From digi dub over simple drum computer house to oneman industrial cassettes: 'Host' has it all."
Lawrence Le Doux opened for   Matias Aguayo in one of Brussels' major venues: Ancienne Belgique earlier this year.
Lawrence Le Doux' latest album was released on Hivern Discs (Music For Documentaries' -  3,8/5 on RA)
VLEK designer Dimitri Runkkarri's take on the analog type press / glass printing process: With Lawrence Le Doux, from the beginning (with "Terrestre", 2014) we used different materials to print out the sleeves. We used cork, overlapping letters, plastic cross for wall carving.
This time, I had some glass left at the workshop. We wanted to try. We broke it on the press then printed it with all the texture, scratch, accidents caused by the pressure of the press..."

"I've been a massive fan of Klute since bagging Commercial Suicide 001 back in 2001. Then to release on Commercial Suicide myself in 2012 was a massive personal goal, so to now be releasing a remix he's done of one of my tracks, and be releasing it on my own label is a massive buzz and a proud moment for my little label." - Soul Intent

Leonardo Martelli - Menti Singole Vol. 2

It's already been two years since Leonardo Martelli's debut with the four-tracker Menti Singole. He has since been following the direction he took with this first release, at a rather slow path, releasing a lone and haunted mini-album, Previsto, in the meantime. With Menti Singole Vol.2, Martelli establishes a picture of his music, an update of his aspirations in the feminine.
.
Sparse, clear-cut and slightly nerve-racking, Micaella opens the record with the precision of a neurosurgeon. The song can be seen in many ways as a good introduction to the music of the Italian musician - past and probably future. Ethereal string machines balance the nagging acid leitmotiv: as often with Martelli's music, there's something going on in the background, some anonymous forces operating off-screen.

We can make the same assessment with Alice, the most obviously desperate tune on the record: the sad synth melody comes in as if it was trying to fill an emotional void, but the supposedly reassuring sentence is not complete, notes are missing. On Laura - just like with Alice - Martelli keeps on playing with the potential of abstraction of rap samples, a process we're familiar with since Previsto.

Sofia gives a particularly striking example of this weird game he likes to play as Biggie Smalls' words get progressively eviscerated from their meaning. Backed by bare percussive samples (a numerical metronome, copyright-free digital ersatz of percussions), Sofia depicts - without any artifice - despair in a post-industrial world, where everything has lost any sense of materiality - while Previsto was still set in a industrial world of steaming factories. Disarmingly simple, Menti Singole Vol.2 offers electronic mourning music at its most elegant.

Crucial Recordings
09.02.2018

Limited pressing. Custom outer sleeve.
Following the aftershock of Crucial Recordings mighty first compilation release, Crucial EP Vol 1 (CRUCIAL014), the progressive dubstep label fails to spare any mercy by swiftly unveiling yet another resounding collection, Samba's Malignant Remixes (CRUCIAL015). Just over a year after Samba's boundary shattering debut release with Crucial, Malignant EP (CRUCIAL009), the label revisits his forward-facing EP with a fresh perspective on its title track, receiving remix treatment from the likes of scene heavyweights Bukez Finezt and label head Sleeper accompanied by a re-release of the original and a VIP version of Malignant's b-side track, Un.'

Welding releases from Encrypted Audio, Division Recordings and System Music while dipping his creative hand into side projects with fellow scene trailblazers Content, Sepia, Chokez, Rygby and Koma, Samba carries with him a highly inventive, genre molding sound of his own, a sound that aligns perfectly with the trailblazing, bass heavy mission of the Crucial Recordings imprint. It's no wonder the prolific label took a double take at his Malignant EP one year after its release. Keeping intact the original's low end rupturing, head bobbing, hip-hop swagger, both Bukez Finezt and Sleeper deployed their own unique sonic looking glasses to rebuild their respective Malignant' remixes. While Bukez's treatment boasts heavy lurking staying power, Sleeper issues a heavy dose of percussive prowess for his high octane version of the track, both equally infectious, mouth watering and expertly executed renditions. The entire release comes to a climax with its final track, Samba's Un (VIP)' which flips the original's contagious melody on its heads with added creep factor and maximum sub bass pressure.

Tserg, the 25-year-old producer from the smallest country of South-East Asia, Singapore, has been creating music for quite a while now. As he calls it himself: Music is like my secret 2nd life, because I don't tell many people about it. It is my escape from school and work. Written over a period of 4 months, Forgotten Times is about the dreams we once had and forgot, the present moments that we forget to cherish and the ideals we used to believe and fight for but no longer do so. The intro is a hopeful track for the time when we started to dream. By the time we reach the outro, these memories have become fragmented and we struggle to even remember them. Thankfully, time travel has always been possible in our minds when we think about the past or future. This Transmat like production by Tserg brings us from the future to the past in Forgotten Times but the listener is free to travel in whichever direction they want. DDS
08.02.2018

After a slew of acclaimed releases by Equiknoxx, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Shinichi Atobe and Mica Levi in 2017, Demdike Stare's DDS start 2018 in typically unexpected style with a remastered reissue of David Moufang (Move D), Karl Berger, Jamie Hodge, Gunter Kraus and Jonas Grossmann's gorgeous sophomore Conjoint album, Earprints (2000).
Conjoint was the little-known but hugely regarded ensemble founded by David Moufang two decades ago, featuring techno pioneer Jamie Hodge, Deep Space Network's Jonas Grossmann, acclaimed jazz guitarist Gunter Ruit Kraus and, most intriguingly - Karl Berger (Jazz Pianist and Vibraphone player for Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry and George Clinton to name but three).
The ensemble are accompanied on Earprints by Andrew Pekler, Anna-Lena Fiedler, Burkhard Höfler, and Kai Kroker, among many others, and flesh out a full frequency spectrum of instrumental and electronic timbres, precisely yet louchely coalescing a timeless and cool blue sound that is entirely respectful to its roots, yet dares to imagine them in an altered context. In that respect it's an influential, memorable precursor to Jan Jelinek's acclaimed Loop-FInding Jazz Records that was eleased the following year.
Democratic in its construction and flush with pregnant contemplative space between and around the notes, the lasting impression made by Earprints is indelibly classic, quietly awaiting immersion by a new wave of listeners who will no doubt marvel at its many charms.
If you're into late night listening and have followed the work of Move D, Miles Davis, Tortoise or Jan Jelinek's frayed, late night Jazz minimalism - this one's for you.

Dr. C. Stein - La Bombe Plastique

Having debuted with a fine EP by Job Sifre, Artificial Dance has returned to the source for release number two. The 12' pays tribute to one of the most influential figures of original DIY electronic music scene of Holland, Hanjo Erkamp.
During the first half of the 1980s, Erkamp had a hand in some of the most experimental and forward-thinking releases on the now legendary cassette label, Trumpett. Famously, he was a member of two of the label's key bands - industrial outfit Doxa Sinistra and new wave combo Ende Shneafliet - but during the period he also recorded a swathe of solo tracks as C. Stein, most of which only saw the light of day decades later.

La Bombe Plastique', a thrillingly spacey and futurist cut rich in proto-techno rhythms, intergalactic electronic motifs and drowsy choral vocals. For this timely reissue, the superb original version comes accompanied by a fresh re-edit created primarily for DJ use.

Hawthonn - Red Godess (of This Men Shall Know Nothing)
  • 1: In Mighty Revelation
  • 2: Misandrist
  • 3: Lady Of The Flood
  • 4: Eden
  • 5: Dream Fugue

The music of Hawthonn is dense and atmospheric, but not inaccessible. Experimental electronic techniques fuse with doom-laden organ riffs, crystalline piano, elemental drones and haunting vocals. Largely guided by their own unconscious muse, the band's chief inspirations lie outside of music, in Romantic poetry, dreams and reveries, esoteric symbolism, the history of magic and witchcraft, folklore and the English landscape. Hawthonn is Leeds-based duo Layla Legard and Phil Legard. Having previously collaborated in music, as well as text and photography, they officially formed in 2014 to deepen their uniquely imaginative approach to musicmaking. Often developing from obsessive explorations of a particular theme, their work precipitates dreams and imaginative journeys, which inform the direction of their music. Their earliest music explored the afterlife mythos of Coil's Jhonn Balance through the image of the Hawthorn tree and Cumbrian landscape where his ashes were scattered. Their approach draws lyricism from the psychoacoustic phenomena of phantom words'—sonic textures translated from geographical space into droning sound spectra, and verbalized dream imagery. The prime symbol of Red Goddess (Of This Men Shall Know Nothing), is mugwort. An herb associated with dreaming, travel and menstruation, mugwort particularly favors edgelands: those abandoned, untended places, part man-made, part rural, where nature begins to reclaim what humanity has left behind. The music here unfolds a mandala of symbolism from these liminal spaces, drawn from a web of fascinations which unfolded during the recording process.

"When Octo Octa sent us the demos for her first full-length record since 2013, we were floored by how many tracks were single worthy. But, there was one that stood out as something entirely on its own, a song that in many ways sounded like nothing Maya had ever released. Since the beginning, we always knew we wanted to do something special with "Adrift," the 8+ minute space-age synth-dub techno tune. When we asked Maya about doing a 12" with remixes we were blindsided to learn she has NEVER had any of her music remixed before. With some remixers in mind, she asked two of her favorites and they said yes. So, here we are to present HNY-016 Octo Octa - Adrift, remixed by Avalon Emerson and Dorisburg."

"Mystiphonic" is the third release from Roland P. Young on EM Records, following "Isophonic Boogie Woogie" which was originally released in 1980 and re-issued by EM in 2005, and the 2009 "Istet Serenade."
"Mystiphonic" is the fruit of two years of recordings at Young's Isophonic Sound Laboratory in Brooklyn, "comprovisations" which are more electronic than the previous EM releases, and yet this new CD retains Young's emotional life-long horn playing, a romance which began in his youth in Kansas City. Also carrying on from previous releases is the all-encompassing warmth and organic/oceanic feeling of Young's music, a rootedness that has been present since his early exposure to Charlie Parker, on through his San Francisco years and ever forward, linking past, present and future through deep American soil to his world-embracing current music, all united through his "Isophonic" philosophy.
The "Mystiphonic" blend of electronics, percussion and horns is one of subtle beauty, sure to please Young's fans while attracting new admirers.

The Broken Orchestra return with their brand new 'Blinded EP'. This release is the first since welcoming new members Emily Render (Vocals) and Tom Kay (Guitar) to the fold, joining founding producers Pat Dooner and Carl Conway-Davis.

The EP, Produced and mixed by The Broken Orchestra and mastered by Pete Maher (The 1975, U2, Paul Weller), features 5 brand new tracks which combine the groups trademark chopped, laid back, melodic trip-hop with ambient textures.

In early 2017, after several years of releasing music as a production only outfit, with appearances from various talented musicians, and with BBC 6Music and Radio 1 airplay under their belt, Pat Dooner and Carl Conway- Davis announced that they would be taking The Broken Orchestra live with the help of Emily Render and Tom Kay. This resulted in a sold out debut show in August 2017.

Now the band set their sights on a busy 2018 as they kick off a promotional cycle for their new 'Blinded EP' which is set to be released on 9th February 2018 via A Bridge Too Far Recordings.

Walton - Gunman / Caught In A Trip

* Manchester's Walton returns to Tectonic following last year's explorations in grime flavoured house/techno offshoots on the killer 'Bulldoze EP'. This time Walton leads with a dance floor crushing anthem that cruises a cool line between grime and tribal dubstep. Featuring a looping Riko Dan sample, 'Gunman' sets a stone cold tone from the offset, hi-hats setting up the groove before a grime flavoured melody cuts in preparing you for the drop. When the bass and drums come crashing in they bounce off each other to produce a disorientating tribal rhythm that will set the dance floor alight!

* Flip for a slower, more gentle mood with 'Caught In A Trip'. Rolling at 126bpm, 'Caught In A Trip' builds around a developing melody played on a glockenspiel-esque instrument, backed with tribal percussion and a driving kick pattern. Ethereal in mood throughout, this one provides a lighter moment for the dance floor.

1939 Ensemble - Beats And Saints
  • 1: Bullseye
  • 2: Pluto
  • 3: Ii B.s
  • 4: Illinois Leadshot
  • 5: Percolator
  • 6: Off You

Since its inception, the music of Portland, Oregon's 1939 Ensemble has always explored the relationship between rhythm and melody. On the quartet's new EP Beats & Saints, that connection—between pulse and phrase—is turned inside out. The record finds vibraphonist José Medeles, percussionist David Coniglio, trumpeter Josh Thomas, and guitarist Knate Carter in a loose, playful mode, interpreting songs by Charles Mingus, Björk, the Breeders, and Stereolab, alongside two new Ensemble originals. Melodic, surprising, and rhythmically dense, this EP finds the band teaming with experimental music legend
Ralph Carney , known for his work with Tom Waits, Bill Laswell, Jonathan Richman, and Martin,Medeski, and Wood, and many more, along with Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tinariwen). Demonstrating the band's inside humor, a Korg Rhythm 55 drum machine also receives a guest' credit. Hunkering down in the 1939's own B-Sides Studios, the band and guests indulges in the time-honored tradition of musicians simply blowing off steam, seeing what happens when combustible elements are combined. The record is an example of open collaboration. It was such a great energy,' Medeles says of the band's collaborations with outside musicians. It was really about friendship and energy as much as anything.' Since 2013's Howl & Bite , recorded by Coniglio and Medeles as a duo in 2010, 1939 Ensemble has expanded its parameters with each release, adding members like Thomas and Carter as time's gone on. This EP finds that expansion playing out stylistically, tying together and ultimately transmuting disparate threads of groove, noise, and rhythm . It's a casual assemblage, a nice collage of songs,' Medeles says, but a picture of a band recording music in their own space—in their own terms.' The resulting recording is a demonstration of that sonic vocabulary, used to stun and wow.

In Stillness

3x12inchMEDIC77LP
Med School
06.03.2018

Etherwood proudly unveils his outstanding third studio album 'In Stillness'. Forged deep in the Nordic wilderness, this 15 track LP sees an exceptional producer return at the very top of his game.
By finding solace in Finnish solitude Etherwood has undoubtedly created his finest body of work. Featuring singles 'Fire Lit Sky' and 'Bear's Breeches', the album is a pensive and raw tale filled with honest lyrics and moving music. Providing some of the most awe-inspiring and poignant drum & bass that Med School has released to date.

Title track 'In Stillness' sets the tone, walking a blissful line of Etherwood's own vocal stylings and angelic melodies. 'Climbing' is a further homage to his forte as both a songwriter and producer where atmospheric amens twinned with soaring pads bring an elegance that few other can master.

'Lay Your Armour Down' is a stunning sensation of vocal chops and distinguished breakbeat as well as 'Frozen Grass', that brings a wave of warmth with gentle keys and soothing songwriting.

The tranquil and mysterious Finnish wilderness coupled with total isolation fuelled his inspiration. It was through this detachment that he was truly free to pursue his art in the purest form. As is portrayed through the words of Etherwood's favourite scholar Arthur Schopenhauer.

'A man can be himself only so long as he is alone, and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom, for it is only when he is alone that he is really free.'

Distant Early Warning is the debut solo album by Australian drummer, percussionist and composer Laurence Pike.

For the best part of two decades Pike has operated at the cutting edge of the electronic and jazz music worlds, releasing albums to critical acclaim and touring the world with his bands PVT (formerly Pivot), Triosk and Szun Waves, and featuring on numerous albums, tours and soundtracks as a collaborator. On Distant Early Warning he carves himself a moment of reflection. The calm in the eye of the storm. An ominous portent as the rocks appear on the horizon.

Originally conceived as a technological and spiritual jazz suite for drums, Distant Early Warning is a series of solo performances for kit and sampler recorded live in a single day. For a long time I've been feeling there's a central part of my musical voice that didn't have an outlet,' Pike says. So this album is definitely a product of inner necessity.'

Godblesscomputers - Solchi

Just as magnified record grooves reveal dust constellations and lunar landscapes, so too does Godblesscomputers' third album. 'Solchi' is a deep search into previous moments in Lorenzo Nada's lifetime, influenced by the presence and power of music. His process began with the recovery of some old cassettes, mixtapes nearly forgotten, audio recording of voices from his childhood, and lots of dusty jazz, soul, and hip-hop records. As the starting point of this travel merge with its end, past and present combine to form GBC's current sound. Warm electronic production rooted by grooving bass lines form the core of a kaleidoscope of sixteen tracks, colored by synthesizers, guitar echoes, scratches, samples, fading voices and kalimba. The album is a collection of sixteen stories, sixteen soundscapes; each of them GBC's tribute to the path taken thus far, an homage to his love for music. The recording and studio work took place over a year, with the adding and subtracting of many elements.

Dusky - Love Taking Over Ep

17 Steps is the new record label from UK act Dusky, aka Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell. The debut 'Love Taking Over EP' leads with a unique title track that represents Dusky's hybrid approach to production perfectly. Drawing on dark, hypnotic melodies that reference classic jungle vibes, soulful vocal samples, and tough, intricate grooves, 'Love Taking Over' also hits with a gritty percussive edge; making for a fresh and distinctly Dusky production.

Second track 'Inta' connects even more directly with Dusky's formative jungle and rave influences growing up in London - taking its title and key sample from the classic 'Inta' by Grooverider's Inta Warriors alias. Archetypal of Dusky's genre-merging approach, 'Inta' blends sub heavy bass pulses with dark synths and vintage rave motifs to form an unflinching and heavy dancefloor sound.

Completing the EP in style, 'Expectations' is a track that has been on heavy rotation in Dusky's DJ sets over the year. A tough, no nonsense, floor burning house jam, "Expectations" instantly strikes a groove with its simple bass line and quirky jazz-inspired lead. Again summoning dark, D&B-inspired bass on its cavernous breakdown, "Expectations" is loaded with the texture and detail that Dusky are renowned.

Iannis Xenakis - Persepolis

After "La Légende d'Eer" in 2016, the PERIHEL series presents one of the milestones of electroacoustic music: IANNIS XENAKIS' mindblowing 54-minutes oeuvre "Persepolis", mixed from the original 8 track tapes by MARTIN WURMNEST and mastered / cut by RASHAD BECKER.

"Persepolis" is the longest electroacoustic composition by IANNIS XENAKIS (1922-2001) who ranks among the most influential 20th century avantgarde composers. Commissioned by the Persian Shah, the piece was part of a multimedia performance - XENAKIS' so-called "polytopes" - which premiered in 1971 in Shiraz-Persepolis (Iran) as a performance including light-tracks, laser beams, groups of children walking around with torches and 59 loudspeakers to project the music in an open-air situation. XENAKIS had realized "Persepolis" on 8-track analogue tape in the Studio Acusti in Paris and released a stereo reduction on vinyl in the famous Philips series "Prospective 21e Siècle" in 1972, adding the new subtitle "We bear the light of the earth", his most hymnal title ever.
Out of print for decades now, the LP became - especially the Japanese edition from 1974 - one of the most expensive collector's item of electroacoustic music. There were some later CD versions with different durations - too long due to a wrong sample rate, others shortened by 3 minutes due to other reasons. The PERIHEL series now presents a new version: mixed from the original (!) master 8 track tapes by longtime zeitkratzer sound engineer MARTIN WURMNEST and mastered by RASHAD BECKER at D&M, Berlin - the same experts who had already taken care of the 2016 KARLRECORDS release of "La Légende d'Eer", another milestone composition among the works of the Greek-French avant-garde composer.

The Tapeworm
19.02.2018

Written and produced by David Burraston. Recorded at Noyzelab, 2014-2017. Random artwork, generated using seed number 0xAF30F0843192FC4, by Matthew Petty.

After a happy chance meeting at an event in the National Portrait Gallery in London, NYZ was invited to make a tape for The Tapeworm. On returning to Australia he went into the studio, digging up some recent-ish pieces from the last few years, and also making a handful of new ones. The music on this tape is a mix of Cellular Automata sequencing hooked up to various synthesis/FX methodologies including: Frequency Modulation, Phase Modulation, Sampling, old school hardware DSP and ROMplers. Musically this tape covers a range of different tunings and intervals, designed to take you on journey through the obscurities of NYZ's approach to experimental sound and music making.

Perc Trax
09.06.2017

Perc returns with 'Bitter Music', his third album on his own Perc Trax imprint
- Features full printed, shrinkwrapped jacket designed by resident Perc designer Jonny Costello of Adult Art Club

- Great DJ feedback below - more to follow

Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) returns with 'Bitter Music', his third album following 'Wicker & Steel' (2011) and 'The Power And The Glory' (2014). As before the album will see a release on his own Perc Trax imprint, giving Perc the complete creative control needed to realise his vision of what should be a milestone release for both himself and Perc Trax.

Originally a very inward looking album when work started on it in March 2016 the extensive political change happening in both the UK and around the world forced the album to widen its perspective. By the time the album was finished in December, it was clear that the sentiment of tracks such as 'Look What Your Love Has Done To Me' was as equally applicable to the micro-politics of person relationships as it was to concerns for the future of a country in a state of flux.

Pre-production for the album begun at Eve Studios, a residential studio just outside of Manchester, UK which specialises in collecting and restoring equipment salvaged from the sadly defunct BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The palette of sounds created during these sessions lends the album the sound of early electro-acoustic experimentation, especially evident on tracks such as 'Wax Apple'. Live instrumentation also plays a larger role on this album than on any previous Perc releases with Wells playing piano on many tracks and Ian East's flute playing featuring on 'Chatter'. The album also features a number of vocal collaborations including one with Gazelle Twin. Post-production, mixing and arranging was done at Perc's North London studio before the album was mastered by Perc Trax's regular mastering engineer Matt Colton.

Sonically the album takes in everything from strung out vocal treatments to the type of warehouse rabble rousers Perc has made his own since his very first releases. More dance floor focussed than his previous albums yet pulling from a wider range of sounds 'Bitter Music' shows a development and maturing of Wells' music that could not have been foreseen just a few years ago.

Delicately balancing the personal and the political, 'Bitter Music' stands apart from most recent techno albums as it continually pushes outwards rather than concerning itself with the microscopic refinement of already established sounds. It is an album unafraid to take chances from an artist continually looking for his next step forwards.

Solid Blake - Mario Ep W/ Dj Stingray Remix

Direct from the heads and hearts manning La Cheetah club, the well-established Glaswegian cellar-dwellers kick the doors open to 'Outer Zone' with an EP from Copenhagen adoptee and Apeiron Crew stalwart, Solid Blake. Perfectly suited to the sonic sensibilities of Scotland's 'cultural capital' (and far, far beyond), the 4 track grey-matter-rattler delves through a darker, leftfield electro vim, with serious remix duties from dancefloor deity Dj Stingray.

Primed to shake the foundations of any venue, be it basement or above.

J.g. Biberkopf - Fountain Of Meaning

* Fountain of Meaning is a new sonic fiction from sound artist J.G. Biberkopf following last year's Ecologies II: Ecosystems of Excess released on Knives. Emerging out of a situation of overflow, the record burrows deeper into his practice of palpable audio theater with a study of object and relations across space-time specific sounds.

The Fountain as a theme reflects a spouting and spilling of information, an erotic gushing of imagined aural history. 'The Fountain was the source of water in the public space in cities,' J.G. Biberkopf explains. 'Now it's pretty much a phallic architectural gesture of both beautification and the spectacle of dominant ideologies.'

The western classical musical canon, much like the perpetual coming of the fountain, flush the headphone space with stimuli. Reflex and memory guides the listener through a semiotic architecture of processed recordings of masses in Catholic churches and contemporary performances of pre-medieval music. A liquidity of structure has an anxious influence and is a closed system approach to form and imagination. When water flows, it fills every space, then spills over to claim more. History is equally abundant and alive. We have never had as much history as we have now. We have never been able to see ourselves as we can now.

A knowledge of a grander architecture of knowing and recalling oppress the ecologies of human decision-making.The nature of the archive has transformed into a total and panoptic intelligence. A life is a gamble as the inventory of the world overflows into the production of a spectral third, an other, a confrontation. Fountain of Meaning offers a dynamic tension and release. A molecular tragedy, our abject recovery into a collaborative reimagining of a trauma long forgotten.

What can be gleaned from this overflow
