Zeitkratzer - Zeitkratzer Performs Songs From "kraftwerk" And "kraftwerk 2"

DOUBLE BIRTHDAY RELEASE !! KARLRECORDS celebrates its 10th birthday, ZEITKRATZER even its 20th! And the party starts with the necessary re-interpretations of early compositions by electronic pioneers KRAFTWERK. CD on ZEITKRATZER PRODUCTIONS, 180gr LP on KARLRECORDS.

Founded in 1997 by REINHOLD FRIEDL, ZEITKRATZER have since been creating an impressive catalogue of recordings that embraces 20thcentury avant-garde composers (CAGE, STOCKHAUSEN, LUCIER) as well as electronic artists (CARSTEN NICOLAI, TERRE THAEMLITZ) or underground experimentalists like THROBBING GRISTLE or COLUMN ONE. In their 20thanniversary year, the critically acclaimed ensemble will release a series of diverse albums that will explore new grounds in the typical, adventurous zeitkratzer way - the first of these albums is dedicated to KRAFTWERK and their early, kraut-esque albums "Kraftwerk" and "Kraftwerk 2". As KRAFTWERK never re-released these albums, ZEITKRATZER gave its best to cover the first tranche of the songs (second tranche to come...,).

Recorded in Marseille / France in May 2016, the six tracks reveal a bucolic and even psychedelic aspect of the ensemble that's mostly known (or feared) for its interpretatory and aesthetic acerbity. And yet there's no doubt that "Songs From The Albums "Kraftwerk" And "Kraftwerk 2" turned out a true ZEITKRATZER recording in the best and full meaning!

Credit 00 - Recordings From Schonbrunn Strasse 2009 - 2012

Having established himself through a consistent stream of quality releases for Uncanny Valley and the immaculate collection of Rat Life, Credit 00 - real name Alexander Dorn - bring sthe heat on NYH81. These are recordings taken from his old apartment, and feature a heavy dose of reference to classic Gertronica. From Can to Kraftwerk to Neu! to (now) Munich's Dopplereffect, this is some really nifty classic electro.

Leonce - Insurgency

Fade To Mind
12.04.2017

After his acclaimed Heatwave and Shadows mixtapes, Leonce releases Insurgency on Fade to Mind, the first official EP from the young Atlanta-based producer. Insurgency was born from demos and sketches first recorded in 2014-2015, inspired by Leonce's favorite elements of house music and his desire to recraft these influences into his own club microverse.

In Leonce's words: 'If house is a feeling, then Insurgency is me subverting that feeling across different tempo ranges and going into weirder and darker territory, like the classic raw house tracks that inspired me.'

Created as both a tribute to classical house and a critique of contemporary assembly-line dance music, the 9-track LP lovingly defies convention at every turn. Opting for deep shuffles and hypnotic progressions, his drumwork is allowed to breathe in this deeply personal spectrum, with carefully sequenced percussion and haunting melodic work. The digital version includes a bonus beats club mix of Snakes, with two additional tracks from Shadows included in the LP.

Like many of his peers working in and amongst QPOC club architecture, Leonce takes personal and direct inspiration from resistance movements in contemporary America. His tracks reflect his own resistance, first weaponized for his own DJ use. There is a natural darkness to them, speaking to struggles in his own life and the constant violence against POC and queer americans. Insurgency is an artifact of symbolic black rebellion, and a sign of what's still to come for Leonce's productions.

Insideinfo - Insideinfo LP 2x12"

2x12"

Existing at the very forefront of electronic music with his intricate production style and experimental sound design, Viper Recordings' own InsideInfo has continued to leave a lasting impression on the Drum & Bass music scene since his first Viper release back in 2008.
Now bringing together a mind-blowing amalgamation of genres, sounds and vocal talent from all ends of the spectrum, InsideInfo gears up to release his hotly-anticipated debut album on Viper Recordings; the self-titled 'InsideInfo' LP.
'InsideInfo' is more than just a Drum and Bass album. Left of centre, classy, and set to brush shoulders with some of the most expertly crafted electronic LP's of recent years, this LP shows us that the talented producer is at the top of his game.
Lending their vocal talents to the album, artists from a diverse selection of backgrounds, including Bleed From Within's Scott Kennedy ('Revenants'), talented electronic vocalist Fable ('Glimpse'), MC and 'Hench Recordings' frontman Jakes ('Renegade') and one of the industry's most favoured singers Tasha Baxter ('Time Will Tell'). Fans will also recognise singer, rapper and MC Miss Trouble featuring on the 2016 hit 'Revolution'.
In true InsideInfo style, 'Navigator', 'Conformity' and 'Spychase' bring some serious bass power, while tracks such as 'Creepy' and 'Lost You' keep up the astounding level of variety throughout; from techy up-tempo bangers to moody rollers. Another highlight is the eclectic 'Num Num' where InsideInfo battles against world renowned tabla musician Aref Durvesh, who has worked with the likes of: Sting, Beck, Jose Stone, and Nitin Sawhney. Spanning a diverse spectrum of sound like never heard before, InsideInfo brings us an LP which signifies the very driving force behind the evolution of modern Drum & Bass music.

  • 4: Born In A Maze
  • 5: It's Not Alright
  • 6: No Eye Sockets (Otto & Sindy)
  • 7: Switch
  • 8: Shot Nerves

undreds of releases and countless live performances littered the path that lead to 2012's Modern Jester, artist Aaron Dilloway's last major artistic statement as a solo artist and one his most well received documents since leaving Wolf Eyes, the prolific noise troupe that Dilloway co-founded in the late 90's with musician Nate Young. Within these pieces, we find a surreal treasure hunt that helps guide us through Dilloway's obsessions, neurosis and influences while also developing a splintered maturity of someone with great complexity stumbling through a well thought out, yet totally unplanned 'long game' of an artistic career. Since then, Dilloway has been busy collaborating with the likes of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Jason Lescalleet, releasing various short form sketches and running his retail outpost, Hanson Records, while slowly working on his next major album, The Gag File.

Introducing itself with the cover image of a posed dummy ready for his yearbook portraiture, The Gag File pick up right where Modern Jester left off; its identity is directly tied to an absurdly uncomfortable head shot that stays permanently fixed in the listener's mind whenever the album is summoned. The opening track, 'Ghost', sets the heartbeat for the record. A rogue pulse that becomes lost in a disjointed, trapdoor loop but becomes even more unorthodox as Dilloway introduces himself through parable of jumbled, confused vocals and phrasing. Past this point, nothing in this record is typical or expected.

Sudden, crude cuts from one piece to another and psychotic jumps in fidelity make one rethink the ideas of confusion and desperation as something more abstract rather than visceral. 'Karaoke with Cal' and 'It's Not Alright' have an intoxicated sense of depression, taking in the world's problems and regurgitating them back in hopes of finding some enjoyment. That enjoyment seems to be found in the non-music aspect of side B's long form party field recording, that loops in on itself making sure you never really know when the party begins or ends, regardless of one partygoers claim.

Nods to Dilloway's recent live performances have been unusually captured as the song 'Inhuman Form Reflected' doubles as a sound portrait of the artist's internal struggle with hysteria, but suddenly breaks away from a recorded song into an accidental segue way of someone on the edge. Most hallmarks of Dilloway's signature are seemingly here but not firmly imprinted into the recording. Instead, Dilloway used his methods of vocal manipulation and frenzied reference to tell a completely foreign narrative, one that subjects himself to naked uncertainty, audible anxiety and discourse.

Ruins, monuments, and ancient sites of worship are multi-sensory experiences - at once residues of the sacred, the parchment on which the passage of time has been inscribed and templates for imaginative reconstruction, spaces in which to invest and immerse, to trade your bearings for an inexhaustible state of transition.

Over the course of three albums, Steve Von Till has, under the guise of Harvestman, provided the sonic analogue, casting his net for what might have been and yet still be. Both a personal meditation and a tuning fork for the most ancient and enduring of resonances, his latest album, Music For Megaliths, further expands his journeys along the sonic ley lines that run between folk, drone, psychedelia, the 'kosmische' outposts of krautrock and noise: not as an act of eclecticism, but of divination, giving voice to an underlying continuity that binds them all.

Recorded over a period of several years in the dawn hours of creation, Music For Megaliths is an aggregation of moments and recordings that have allowed themselves to spell out a greater whole. Utilizing repetition, manipulation and modulation, it's a hallowed frequency dial that ranges across the pulse-regulated drone of The Forest Is Our Temple, revving up like a generator powered by arcane currents, the blissful gaze of Ring Of Sentinels, Sundown's ominous waves of interference and White Horse's rite of dissolution and regeneration, nomadic and devout. Music For Megaliths is a crossing over, whose multiple routes are testament to a singular and sensuously dilated vision.

UNKNOT
30.06.2015

UNKNOT is the duo consisting of producer/dj Sciahri and composer/audiohead Emanuele Porcinai. UNKNOT01 is the first release on the duo's self-titled label. The music is derived from recordings of jam sessions taken on a semi-modular set-up and later contextualized, through arrangement, within a dancefloor-oriented framework.

The core of UNKNOT's sound is strictly bound both to Sciahri's solid techno background and to the mutable character of Emanuele's electroacoustic productions. The dialogue between such distant practices and approaches, brought to an extremely restrained setup, is what defines UNKNOT's musical identity.

UNKNOT01 is a stark, angular swarm of sounds, shaped within very structured yet experimental arrangements. Each track delivers propulsive, cryptic and poignant melodies disguised in the harsh and outright aggressive rhythmical patterns.

This is the 2nd of the 'Teddy Bear' Picture Disc Series with Original photography and design by Simon Van Stipriaan.

Gato Preto - Tempo (lp+mp3)

Gato Preto's debut album - Tempo' contains everything, what is exciting about the international club-culture: rockin Favela-Funk from Rio, roaring township-grooves from South Africa and Angola's technoid electro-hybrid Kuduro. Sound creator & Gato Preto producer Lee Bass creates the basis for Femcee Gato Misteriosa and her portugese power-punchlines.No matter if in some hip electro-shed of Paris, at Zakk in Duesseldorf or on an international stage at the "Nyege Nyege"-festival located on the river Nil in Uganda - as soon as the - black cat', Gato Preto in english, comes along there is no escape.Equiped with digital effect-devices and synthesizers, supported by african drummers and dancers, Gato Preto fascinate their crowd from the beginning til the end and convince everybody around that global bass-power and progressive grooves out of the world's metropolises are un-stoppable.

- Tempo' can be seen as an invitation to escort both global-bass-travellers on an imaginary time travel into the past and to join them finding and exploring their african roots.
All songs on the album - Tempo' are composed as a 12-piece audio adventure of producer Lee Bass and Femcee Gato Misteriosa. Each song has its own story. Starting with - Moçambique' dealing with the bloody colonial history of the country. - Dia D' already has become a global dancefloor hymn and is an hommage to the track record of african pop music during the last couple of years. "Polícia' is a collaboration with Ghana-rooted rapper Delasi and critizes worldwide police violence. "Barulho" is Favela Punk and was written with global bass buddy Edu K from Brasil. The song "Pirão' searches for long forgotten traditions, cook recipies and african art of healing, interpretes those components in a modern way.
In the end Gato Preto manage the time travel - back to the future'. As open and self-confident Afro-Europeans they come back from the past to forcast new trends at the global pop sky.

Nino Nardini - Musique Pour Le Futur

We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records is delighted to announce the release of Nino Nardini's experimental/musique concrète/sci-fi masterpiece MUSIQUE POUR LE FUTUR, available for the first time since 1970 and housed in a phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark heavy cardboard sleeve from...the future!

Originally recorded for Crea Sound Ltd, a sub-label of Louis Delacour's Neuilly imprint, MUSIQUE POUR LE FUTUR finds French composer, arranger, producer, possible time traveler, and all around music library legend Nino Nardini experimenting with synthesizers, percussions, prepared piano, echo, and special effects. Fans of electronic oddities, eerie cinematic audio-landscapes, Piero Umiliani or Bernard Parmegiani will rejoice at this full-length musical adventure that could very well be the soundtrack for a film in which characters from a 70s Italian horror movie visit a distant (forbidden) planet from a 50s sci-movie. It's bizarre, hypnotizing, slightly spooky, always out-of-this-world and goddamn BRILLIANT!

Nino Nardini, also known as Georges Teperino, had a very fruitful career in library music, much like longtime collaborator Roger Roger. He composed a very large amount of works for French and British libraries which continues to be featured in numerous programs (radio, tv, films) all around the world. His passion for electronic music experimentations began in the late 60s and kept going till the 80s.

Points of interests

- For fans of musique concrète, library music, early electronic, cosmic oddities, movie soundtracks, forbidden planets, synthesizers, Bernard Parmegiani, and Bruno Spoerri.

- Nino Nardini's masterpiece MUSIQUE POUR LE FUTUR LP available for the first time on vinyl since 1970 - housed in phosphorescent glow-in-the-dark heavy cardboard sleeve.

- 13th release from We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records (John Carpenter's Dark Star Soundtrack, Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass, Piero Umiliani's Tra Scienza e Fantascienza and Il Mondo Dei Romani...), label founded and curated by Olivier Ducret of Mental Groove (Miss Kittin, Brodinski, Kadebostany, Donato Dozzy...) and Stephan Armleder of Villa Magica Records (Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Christian Marclay, Stephan Eicher, John Armleder, Sylvie Fleury...)

Noisia - Outer Edges Remixes

'We wanted to have our album Outer Edges remixed by a lot of very different artists. When we made the album we went as far as we could within our own confines; exploring and stretching the outer edges. That's why we didn't do any collaborations on the album. With this remix package we asked a lot of very different artists to take that material beyond our edges, into their respective domains. We are really happy that they managed to take our music into completely different dimensions, with such exciting results!' - Noisia

Dutch electronic music trio, Noisia, have revealed the remixers for their forthcoming 'Outer Edges Remixes' album. Released on 7 April, the compilation brings together remixes of last summer's 'Outer Edges' studio album from the likes of Bassnectar, Ivy Lab, Machinedrum, Amon Tobin, Camo & Krooked, Mat Zo, Dyro, The Upbeats, Mefjus, and more.

Handpicked by Nik, Martijn, and Thijs, the artists range from across the electronic music spectrum, with many of the mixes taking the original versions outside of drum & bass entirely - something Noisia were keen to achieve with this project. Some tracks from 'Outer Edges Remixes' will be released individually via DSPs and streaming services towards 7 April, and Camo & Krooked's mix of 'The Entangled' is available now. Fans can pre-order an 'Outer Edges Remixes' bundle, including CD and 320 kbps MP3s versions of the album, and a limited edition t-shirt, via https://store.visionrecordings.nl/product/vsn029-bundle/

Noisia have had nothing short of an incredible 12 months. Last summer's 'Outer Edges' album became one of the standout artist releases of 2016, earning them 3 awards at the Drum and Bass Arena Awards (Best Producer, Best Album with 'Outer Edges' & best video with 'Mantra'), 'Best Album' at the UK Drum And Bass Awards, and contributed towards them receiving the Beatport award for 'Best-Selling Drum & Bass Artist'.

While Noisia have transcended their genre and grown into a phenomenon in their own right, drum & bass is at the core of Noisia's sound, but their visceral brand of electronic music has always ventured further, and the trio have continuously pushed boundaries through their own music and via collaborations with artists like Amon Tobin. This attitude extends outside of the studio and into the curation of the Noisia Invites events and their DJ shows, where they share stages with the likes of Skrillex, Andy C, Gaslamp Killer and Chase & Status.

Soundwalk Collective - Before Music There Was Blood (inc. Max Lodenbauer Remix)

Apollo are proud to present a stunning new project from NYC / Berlin based artists Soundwalk Collective AKA the trio of Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli and Kamran Sadeghi.
Formed in Manhattan to produce concept albums, sound installations and live performances, they create immersive audio excursions from field recordings which they gather from all over the globe - previous works have seen them collaborate with Berghain, Nan Goldin, the films of Jean-Luc Godard and Patti Smith.

For 'Before Music There Is Blood' they have collaborated with the world's most prestigious music conservatories (the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (China), The N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory (Russia) and the Conservatorio di Musica S. Pietro A Majella in Napoli (Italy),
They entered the hallowed courtyards, corridors and classrooms of these three academies, recorded hundreds of hours of these elite students practicing and rehearsing to the highest standards of virtuosity.
'The piece questions what is music, composition, and ultimately what is harmony,' they explain. 'It is an attempt to capture notes out of their context - bleeding into each other through the walls, windows, courtyards and alleyway of the conservatory.'
These unexpected melodies are the result of an impromptu, anarchic musical composition of all instruments, where composers, centuries and civilisations are echoing each other in one acoustic space - ghostly fragments of conversation, skittering percussive stabs, burbling synthesis, oscillating swathes of droning strings and hushed, gauzy ambiance. Max Loderbauer supplies a stunning rework that lets the sunshine into the hallowed academic halls a percolating iridescent odyssey - A fitting return to Apollo Records for Max Loderbauer who produced a series of classics for the label in the nineties as half of Sun Electric.
To give Soundwalk Collective the last word on the topic 'Our microphones wondering through the architecture were the silent spectators of the music left behind.'

Didier Bocquet - Voyage Cerebral

"1979 follow-up to his Eclipse debut, Voyage Cerebral was the second effort by french synthetist Didier Bocquet. Like the first album, it was recorded on his own private studio and self-released, this time via legendary french custom label FVLM ("Faites Le Vous-Même", meaning "Do It Yourself"). Inspired by the first wave of german kosmische sound-travellers (Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream and the whole Berlin School spring inmediately to mind) but retaining that typical french urgency that places it close to Heldon / Pinhas, Lard Free or even Besombes / Rizet territory. In-your-face sequenced electronic music that sounds both spacy and violent at the same time whilst keeping a certain lo-fi, self produced vibe. Recommended to fans of all things kosmische' and synth music in general."

Pioneers of electronic experimentation in Venezuela, Musikautomatika is one of the best kept secrets in Latin America's experimental sound scene. They were formed in the late 70s by Luis Levin, Alvise Sacchi and Stefano Gramitto, and counted on the complicity of Mirella López and Gabriela Gamboa. They issued four albums (Musikautomatika -1983, Boston Tape - 1987, Kuba - 1987 y Frecuencias en peligro de extinción - 1993), which are nowadays highly sought after pieces among collectors from all over the world. Free improvisation and cosmic electronic music defines the path this collective of sonic travellers took.'

For fans of 60s-era INA-GRM concrète, electro-acoustic free-improv ensembles, Jean-Claude Eloy, Maurizio Bianchi and even the kind of melodies Tom Dissevelt and Kid Baltan explored on Song of the Second Moon.

"Inhabiting this grey area between late psych efforts and early PINA (private issue new age), 1977's Pythagoron TM is an electronic oddity originally marketed as some sort of musical narcotic ( a new invention that gets you high with sound' original ads read) sold via magazines like High Times.

Shrouded by it's corporate-like design are two enigmatic side long suites of droning electronics which evoke similar autistic synth experiences like early Conrad Schnitzler, Lorq Damon, Udder Milk Decay or the whole Pascal / Narco Records output whilst recalling also more articulate efforts such as Steve Reich's early opus, Charlemagne Palestine's sinewave experiments or Eliane Radigue's synthetic bliss.

A truly bizarre artifact which was apparently the brainchild of NYC's early media art collective USCO (The Company Of Us) which already pionered inmersive sound/light environments fusing mysticism and state-of-the-art technology back in the 60's. Intriguing period piece."

Steve Hauschildt - Strands

Steve Hauschildt

Strands

12inchKRANK205LP
Kranky Records
06.04.2017

Graceful compositions flow throughout. Steve Hauschildt's fourth release for kranky following his Where All Is Fled full length from late summer 2015.

The songs fluctuate from the serene calm of album opener Horizon of Appearances, to the pulsing hypnosis of Ketracel, and on to searing grandeur of album closer Die in Fascination, Throughout, Steve remains restrained and in complete control of his sound.

Strands is a song cycle that is about cosmogony and creation/destruction myths. The title alludes
to the structural constitution of ropes as I wanted to approach the compositions so that they consisted of strands and fibers which form a unified whole. This was so the songs could have the appearance of
being either taut or slack without being fundamentally locked to a grid. So the sounds/tones have a
certain malleability to them and sound like they're bending through time. It's also grittier and more
distorted than my previous albums.

I wanted to try and capture that moment in nature and society where life slowly reemerges through desolation, so it has a layer of optimism looming underneath. The music represents this by seemingly decaying at times but then reforms and morphs in a fluid way back to its original state. I was also inspired by the movement of rivers, particularly their transformative aspect and how they're in a state of flux and change, in particular the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland where I live, which notoriously caught on fire thirteen times because of industrial pollution in the 1960s and before. I was very interested in the dichotomy of oil and water and the resulting, unnatural symptoms of human industry. It's a very personal record for me as it is a reflection of my hometown where I grew up and where it was mostly recorded.

Sula Bassana - Organ Accumulator

The new year has already seen 3 or 4 killer Deep Distance releases, some of which have sold out -without exaggeration- in a single day. The first pressing of the fabulous new Sula Bassana LP Organ Accumulator' was one. Mainland Europe gobbling these up leaving next to none for UK stores, upon initial release in January. This repress addresses that omission and will no doubt go super quick also.
Organ Accumulator' sees a welcome return to the label for Germany's SULA BASSANA following 2015's epic Kosmonauts' double set- separated by last year's mighty Shipwrecked' full length on the bands' own Sulatron label.
Although Organ Accumulator' reveals a more relaxed side to previous output, SB still tread firmly within the revered kosmische ground of motorik grooves, ambient trance and pulsing electronics. An absolute must for all fans of Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Cluster, the Sky label and so on, not to mention latter day heroes -and previous label mates- like Panabrite, JD Emmanuel, Cosmic Ground, Expo 70 etc....
Sula Bassana is pretty much the solo outlet for Electric Moon & Zone Six's Dave Schmidt- who wrote, recorded and produced everything himself on synths, sequencers, portable keyboards, smaller organs and drum boxes etc. Lichtbuendel' was recorded almost exclusively on a Casiotone 403, via a fat effects board and guitar amp, whilst tracks like The Frogs' tips it's hat to the soundtrack work of John Carpenter and Nebelschwaden' perhaps does likewise for the early work of Vangelis...

06.04.2017

Ambient power duo Anjou's sophomore statement continues in the vein of their 2014 debut, unfurling a full hour of mesmeric synthetic drift and veiled melodic undertow.

Comprised of Mark Nelson (of pioneering post-rock experimentalists Labradford and Pan·American) and Robert Donne (of Labradford, Aix Em Klemm, Cristal) , the group work largely in long-form suites of sound, alternately spacious and dense.

The new LP's six pieces embrace flux and ambiguity: drones swell and shudder, hushed currents of noise glitch and dissolve, atmospheres congeal and liquify. As with the participants' prior projects, Anjou evoke a shadowed, mysterious mood, variously melancholy and transcendent.

The album is an accumulation of craftsmanship and experience, blurred forms traced in light and fog.

Delia Gonzalez - Horse Follows Darkness LP 2x12"

Horse Follows Darkness is the second record by Delia Gonzalez, her follow up to the album In Remembrance'.

The title is taken from a werewolf genre film her 8 year old son Wolfgang had created. At this time, Wolfgang also turned Delia onto a genre of cinema she had always resisted - the American Western.

Delia explains that what she observed was all relevant - the album is based on our personal experience of moving back to America (from Berlin) and the journey that followed. The record is a manifestation of that, and what one creates for themselves under the given circumstances. Coming back to America, I felt like a foreigner and NYC / America felt like the Wild West. Most Westerns from the 1960s to the present have revisionist themes. Many were made by emerging major filmmakers who saw the Western as an opportunity to expand their criticism of American society and values into
a new genre.'

The narrative of the record is one of re-encountering the frontier mentality that shaped the country but somehow never faded. This time as a foreigner. The genre of the Western remains pertinent, many of the same stories of that brutally deromanticised era are still relevant today. America hasn't changed - the cast, times and settings have, but we still hold onto the same ideal.

Horse Follows Darkness is essentially a modern electronic soundtrack for the Revisionist Western. Even the idea for the record cover is inspired by one of the most well known modern Westerns, Robert Altman's McCabe & Mrs Miller.

The album was recorded with Abe Seiferth at Transmitter Park studios, which Delia likens to going to the finest tailor'. Abe became an integral part of the recording, playing guitar and helping to suggest experimenting with different synthesizers, something Delia was keen to do. Delia refers to Abe as a magical and incredibly intuitive collaborator' regarding the sound of the record.

The music that emerged from these recording sessions combines a range of influences - from the compositions of Erik Satie to 'Salon De Musique', the solo piano record by Su Tissue (of the L.A. punk band Suburban Lawns). The record also took on a much different shape and sound with the introduction of the Sequential Circuits Prophet VS, as well as a vintage Korg Poly synth and the Roland SH-101. The golden era Krautrock recordings of bands like Neu!, Cluster & Harmonia were touchstones as well, the repetition, swirling soundscapes and locked-in rhythm tracks.

Over the last few years, Jimmy Billingham has delivered all manner of intergalactic explorations under the HOLOVR alias, releasing via such labels as Opal Tapes, Firecracker and Further. Now he brings his unique brand of semi-improvised, melody-driven bliss to Happy Skull for the first their first release of 2017.

HOLOVR productions variously echo the timeless feel of vintage ambient, 90's intelligent techno and mind-altering electronica, whilst remaining a truly unique proposition. This mixture of influences, ideas and sounds can be heard across the two tracks that make up HAPSKL012.

A-side "Melody 4 Your Mind" is a pure endorphin rush: a densely textured pulp of deep space chords, pitched vocal samples and fractured, post electro rhythms. On the flip you'll find the more forthright "You Belong 2", an undulating, constantly mutating epic that alternates between glacial, otherworldly beauty and psychedelic intensity. This is emotive, melancholic music for bleak times.

Tetrad & Ahkur - Ashes Fall / Tetrad - Crumble

FAV004 is finally upon us and it comes courtesy of L.A based Cheyne Taylor Bush A.K.A Tetrad who has been on fire recently, fresh off the back of an inspired and well received ZamZam release last year. Here he is joined by brother Dillon Bush A.K.A Ahkur on opener "Ashes Fall", a seriously dark piece of music and possibly Tetrads heaviest production to date. An eerie intro with a haunting vocal sample drop into an assault of pure dubstep pressure which is sure to ignite dance floors the world over.
Flip side "Crumble" is a more stripped back affair with a nod to the classic sounds of dub with its delayed snares, skanks and FX. What really sets this tune apart though is the overwhelming power of the sub, with a weight-line so devastating it could crumble cities let alone the dance! Here brothers Tetrad and Ahkur have succeeded in providing an outstanding plate, absolutely brimming with sound system material in its purest form. Essential.

We're back again with Russian Artist, Module One. At just 22 years-old he's already had a stack of releases including an ambient album on Detroit Underground. 'Hometown' was written in the depths of Russia in a place called Novocherkassk, whose industrial cityscapes made a great impact on the overall sound of the album. Most of the tracks were written in a few takes. Most notably, the track 'Innermost Self' is a dedication to Module One's grandma who passed away a short time ago. Due to a tragic sequence of events, he was unable to see her before she fell into a coma. The track is overloaded with tension and fear as well as stark anxiety. Vinyl tastes better...

Cucumb45 - Sly'o Ep4 - Something Weirdcore

The fourth release on Bjarki and Johnny Chrome Silver's bbbbbb Records, comes hot on the heels of the first. Two and three are limited run, vinyl only, hand stamped releases to be sought out from your local dealer.
Bjarki returns as Cucumb45 with the 5-track EP 'Something Weirdcore'. On the surface there are elements of jungle, breakbeat, techno and rave, but to say this spans genres would be an understatement - it defies them.
The title track instantly commands attention with breaks samples offset against indecipherable robotic groans and melancholic chords, but a sudden change of drum pattern shows this is more than a reprieve of known territory - it's a voyage away from the limits of tempo and genre.
This theme is explored throughout the EP by way of unnerving stripped back techno (Akureyri), electro with subtle inflections of dancehall (Comatack) and even a big beat/dub influenced jam (Music for Advertising). As Cucumb45 plays with genres as we know them, so he does with the emotional resonance of the release. Frequently switching from euphoric to anxious, each track is a testament to his incredible attention to detail. Simply put, this is music for those who hate to be labelled.

Differ-ent - It's Good To Be Differ-ent

DJ Bone is Differ-Ent.

But then again, he always has been. A pioneer DJ and producer hailing from Detroit, whose technical skills are perhaps only equalled by the upper echelons of the city's most advanced techno trailblazers, he's nonetheless forged a path only of his own. Eschewing commercial expectations, scene pressures and anything other than his own exquisite taste, Bone has earned a vital, dedicated audience while remaining comfortably and individually underground.

Despite his stellar reputation, Bone's recent studio activities have steered him towards a new, altogether more personal direction. In late 2015, Differ-Ent's arrival on Don't Be Afraid with the 'Differ-Ent(Hrall)' EP paved the way for its follow-up, 'M.O.M.:' both were forceful slabs of psychedelic outsider techno, with the latter taking on a tangible emotional resonance as it honoured the memory of Bone's late mother. 'M.O.M.' quickly became one of the label's best celebrated and widely played releases. Bone, typically self-sufficient and known to turn down remixes for huge clubbing brands, was impressed by the Bristol label's honesty and persistence. As he continued to rock parties internationally, Bone set to work on an LP embracing his deeper, darker and more cerebral side.

Not that 'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent has found Bone veering away from the dancefloor. "It's like, the natural vibe for me is always going to be funky", admits Bone. "It's going to swing, it's going to have that element of soul. But the Differ-Ent vibe is almost angrier. Determined, perhaps is a better word. I would typically just go to the studio when I had an idea. To the point where I say, 'OK, I'm going to do something, I'm going to make it happen.' But the process for Differ-Ent...it's kinda methodical. It's borderline predictable. But the thing that makes it Different is that it could go any which way at any given time. And it can be harder edged usually, or it can go in a soundtrack direction."

Film plays a significant influence on the landscape of Differ-Ent, with the record's more melodic flourishes sometimes designed to evoke the doubtlessly imaginative chase sequences swimming around Bone's mind. If Bone's usual movements are 'Do The Right Thing', his Spike Lee joint, then in his own words, 'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent' is his tribute to Paul Verhoven's 'RoboCop'.

"The only way I think the album evolved differently was the electro stuff", recalls Bone. "I was excited about that. Because that was a different type of electro as well. It wasn't a normal, 80s funk kinda electro. It completely separates you. It's still for the dancefloor, but it's almost as if it shakes you to dance, rather than coaxes you."

'It's Good To Be Differ-Ent' certainly feels powerful, mastering a mix of Drexicyan tones and drums that align more with a newer wave of house and techno experimentalists. Many of these, from Hodge to Ø/Phase, have been an influence on Differ-Ent, all sharing what Bone describes as a unique affinity with "creepy shit." It's his thunderous, occasionally paranoid but overwhelmingly positive contribution to a forward thinking European scene he has come to relate to on a par with his native Detroit.

Much of ''It's Good To Be Differ-Ent' has been inspired by Bone's frustration. Frustration with the modern political system as well as the creative conservatism of his own scene. In the studio, he has created a unique riposte. But the commercial pressure Bone has always avoided is only growing stronger. Is it harder than ever to be truly different

"It's harder for the majority of people", observes Bone. "For me, it's really easy. I've been preparing myself for this for years."

Pavel Dovgal - The Aura - 2x12"

2nd album by Russia's Pavel Dovgal on Berlin's Project: Mooncircle label after collabo EPs with Ta-Ku and Krts. Featuring L.A. rapper Blu, Starving Yet Full (ex-vocalist from Azari III) Mujuice, Graciela Maria and Mitia Dedoni! The Aura' and the belief in it can be found in almost all cultures in one form or another. Often signifying fields of energy and spirituality, an aura is a luminous radiational halo surrounding a person or object. It is said that all objects and all living things manifest such an aura. In other respects the aura has also been described as a map of the thoughts and feelings surrounding a person.Pieced together from sounds and samples from all over the globe, the album's aim is to charge listeners with harmony and a feeling of connectedness to the world. Reflecting on his own attitude towards life and the importance of inner balance, Pavel attempts to share some of the spiritual experiences he made while traveling. The lengthy process of creation included numerous reworks of each track and intensive listening sessions in order to keep the balance between the essential details and those that are redundant to the album's atmosphere. The album includes collaborations with old friends like Mujuice, Graciela Maria as well as some newly added artists - L.A. rapper BLU, Starving Yet Full - ex-vocalist from Azari III and Mitia Dedoni, who created the haunting album cover. The Aura' comes out worldwide on limited grey-marbled vinyl (including download code).

Petit Singe - Thrillseeka / Kinda

* Haunter Records' 2017 kicks off with two new displays of aural expansion by longtime members of the Milan-based crew. Twin singles from Weightausend and Petit Singe that also mark the label's first ventures into 7" format. Through heavy use of darkened breakbeats and angular dynamics, each of the two producers sets out to have their unique sonic approach ring on throughout the sprawl.

Hazina Francia AKA Petit Singe returns to give a sign of what's to come in the very near future. Her transdimentional approach is always prone to punctuate the spiritually intense quality of her taste for melody with heavy barrages of drums organized into hard-hitting grooves. Each of the two tracks manages to balance in her world of feral beauty, pummeling the dancefloor while also dragging into psychedelic stupor.

Local Action
14.02.2013

Local Action's first single of 2013 comes from DJ Q. It's Q's second release on the label, following the vinyl-only, instantly sold-out 'Brandy & Coke', and marks the first taste of his forthcoming debut album.

Q's been a legend to those in the know for almost a decade: his past single 'U Wot' was one of the biggest tracks to ever come out of the UK's bassline house / Niche explosion, and his BBC Radio 1xtra show was a must-listen for UK dance music fans. His recent productions (on Local Action, Unknown to the Unknown, Butterz and more) showcase a producer at the top of his game, able to turn his hands to grime, garage, pop and more, and 'Trust Again', a collaboration with Brit School alumnus Louise Williams is vocal 2-step made to perfection.

'Trust Again' features the first vinyl remix in several years by Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown, one half of the legendary UK garage unit Tuff Jam - check Oneman's Fabric CD or Ben UFO's all-vinyl session for RBMA to see how their influence is still felt today. Remixes also come from DJ Q (4x4 remix) and a shredding take by bassline house heavyweight TS7.

On the flip, The Time and Space Machine, aka Richard Norris, fresh from remixes of DJ Harvey, Tame Impala and Bryan Ferry, stretches the original out into a cosmic psych jam from outer space. Guaranteed to get the hipsters swinging!

No Stars Ep

10inchWARM001
21.05.2012

May 7th will see the inaugural release on Warm Records with a limited 10'' EP from Face + Heel. The label is but the latest extension of the Warm brand, which has been a mainstay on the London club scene for many years now. This year will see three releases on the label, all by Cardiff duo, Face + Heel. The first EP will be released on May 7th, with two tracks featured on the vinyl release (No Stars and One Hundred Years Deep), with an accompanying digital bonus track (Draggin' Your Chains).

Face + Heel consists of Luke Taylor and Sinead McMillan, whose first meeting (via Soundcloud) in early Spring 2011, followed by an eventual real-life encounter through a mutual friend, triggered an instant musical bond as the pair realised their mutual appreciation of Ricardo Villalobos, Laurie Anderson and Bill Evans (who Sinead still claims Luke is the spitting image of). Sinead's background in classical composition and her interest in live soundscapes sat well with Luke's career as a sound designer, song writer, and studio engineer, and brought an interesting mix of influences to bear on what has been an already fruitful creative partnership. Over three EP's on Warm Records in 2012, the Face + Heel universe will be presented to the world.

Moresounds - Mutation Experts Ep

French producer Moresounds makes a welcome return to Cosmic Bridge five years after his debut. The Paris-based dub scientist was one of the first artist Om Unit picked for the label and the co-sign helped launch his career, which has since included contributions to Astrophonica, Doc Scott's 31 Records, and remixes for Machinedrum as well as a growing touring schedule that saw him take his unique live show to Asia and America in 2016. Mutation Experts catches Moresounds in a more experimental vibe with four cuts that play with the rhythmic potentials of jungle in a different style. Ting N Tings sets the mood with rolling breaks in a sea of soothing pads, subtle loops, vocal samples, and recurring sound effects anchored by deep bass to create a subtle, implied tension. Mutation Experts makes use of a catchy melody to take the listener along and once again the mood is one of subtle changes and blissful exploration, a junglist daydream. Ruff Times is the darker of the tracks on offer, a creeping roller wrapped around a two-note melody and drenched in dub, a hypnotic descent down a rabbit hole. The EP closes with Positive Yourself a mellow, downtempo production that plays with African motifs and samples for a gentle return to reality. Mutation Experts offers a perfect example of how Moresounds combines the rhythmic appeal of jungle with the transformative potential of dub, sidestepping obvious signifiers to play with possibilities. Mutation Experts invites you to take a different trip with Moresounds as your guide

Nomine - Blind Man

Nomine

Blind Man

12inchTEMPA099
Tempa Recordings
16.04.2015

Nomine returns with Blind Man, his fifth 12' for Tempa. Its three tracks offer his sparsest yet most atmospheric and immersive music to date, taking listeners and dance floors further still into the cryptic sound-worlds he's made his own throughout his releases to date.

What marks out Nomine's takes on dubstep and techno is his innate ability to use subtle sonic gestures to create a massive physical and emotional impact: in his hands, a brief flicker of struck hand drums or a fragmentary drift of melody can hit you as hard as a two-ton heavy blast of sub-bass pressure.

That aesthetic underpins this EP's two lead tracks, 'Blind Man' and 'To The Sky', both of which carve out gigantic resonant spaces rich enough in detail to reach out and touch. The former's gently plucked strings and trickling water summon up a contradictory tangle of atmospheres, with meditative warmth mingling with inescapable creeping anxiety, all underpinned by seething sub-bass.

'To The Sky' is a beautiful, vast abyss of a track: Iustina's vocals drift through space amid reedy drones and environmental sound, conjuring up an unlikely nexus point between British electronic dark masters Coil and the rugged sound system intensity of Digital Mystikz. Finally, Nomine ratchets up the club energy for closer 'Nomine's Robot', a sleek, broken techno slow-burner built around an entire echo chamber's worth of reverberating drums - hypnotic dancefloor manna for the very early hours.

Tv Baby - Remixes

Tv Baby

Remixes

2x12inchDXM002
DEUS RECORDS
15.02.2017

Deus Record's TV Baby remix package drops six varying yet cohesive reworking of the New York duo. To shed new light on three of the band's tracks, the label has craftily pieced together an international cast of electronic artists capable of reinterpreting the psychedelic and free jazz influences of the project for the dance floor. The resultant reworks give the tracks solid functionality while staying faithful to the
band's influences and standing firmly within the label's ethos.
On first drop Secret Circuit's penchant for melodic, euphoric sounds meets Free Tech head on, the LA producer's trippy, driving remix focuses on fine-tuning and blending the more musical elements and vocals, with kaleidoscopic results.
Former band mate and Rub n Tug's very own Tom of England turns the package on its head and drops a mechanical, Balearic meets Punk take on Wild Joy. Turning things off the beaten dance floor trail, the mix is as blissful as it is claustrophobic.
Trus'me is an artist who knows a thing or two about the collaborative aspect of the remix, he is also a man whose continually evolving creative process make his remixes so unpredictable and vital. Currently exploring spaced out dance floor dynamics, the experienced Manchester producer puts a Detroit spin on Klerin Priest, turning in a slice of broken electro funk with a distinct UK flavour.London-based Ivan Smagghe has long been a proponent of industrial sleaze and brings his vast experience to bear on his chugging, restrained, 'Crossed' remix of Klerin Priest. The Frenchman's 'Ghetto' mix is even more reduced and touches on the now resurgent minimal sound.
With musical cycles once again aligning towards a more stripped back, tripped out approach, both mixes tap into the essence of Smagghe's undeniable, electro-leaning influence on the darker dance floors of today. All four producers twisted, experimental and driving effort's ensure that all of TV Baby's musical ethos is explored across six varied and divergent tracks.

Hammering down on his dubwise tendencies and his love for the dark side of jungle, he gives out his most club-oriented work to date, channeling two new bassy rollercoasters, including a new version of "Green Death".

Barclay Crenshaw - Barclay Crenshaw

Channeling a love affair with classic 90's hip hop, an affinity for otherworldly themes and an ear for raw funk, Barclay Crenshaw uses his given birth name to bare his soul and deliver a slowed-down, emotive collectiob of collaborations and instrumentals. This self-titled debut album is a left-field deperature from his better known allias, Claude Von Stroke, but the quality is undeniably the same. The themes of alien abductions and exploring of time and space are discovered and brough to life over ten tracks that sound like a mixture of gold rope chains and new age enlightenment. Modern organic beats mixed with gorgeous melodic movements and underlying grittiness create an experience that is eclectic, expressive, and expansive. Coded art furthers the sense of mystery and the unkown. Harking back to the past while gazing into the future.

The Zone Ep

12inchBG002
Black Gold Records
06.05.2013

After the humbling amount of love and positivity shown for our first release (BG001-'Detonate' by Dismantle, featured on Annie Mac's
"Class of 2012" compilation and it's b-side '2 in 1' to be featured on Joker's forthcoming Rinse compilation), Black Gold are thrilled
and very excited to announce their second release:
"The Zone" by Kutz. An atmospheric, genre busting monster which is not your standard 140 bpm number. "The Zone" combines
dancefloor sensibilities of whipped drum beats and heavy bass with the soundscapes of a John Carpenter movie. A natural
progression in the evolution and development of Bass music, "The Zone" brilliantly fuses the power of raw cinematic grooves with the
sophistication and lushness of a film score to devastating effect, making it both contemporary yet timeless.
On the AA side are two totally different tracks that still fit the Black Gold ethos of powerful bass driven electronica/dance music
"Rodeo" has a rocking groove that is D-I-R-T-Y and is just begging for hot summer nights and heaving dancefloors. The hooks just
dig in and take you with them on a bucking bronco ride that will leave you battered and bruised and wanting more.....4 minutes just
isn't long enough!
Bringing you down with a more minimalist bump, the last track is "Krystal Visions". Bootlegged to much acclaim (as ever) by Skream
last year, this is a fine piece of sparse techno, full of glitchy metallic stabs that home in on your aural receptors, ready for battle.
However understated atmospherics like echoes from "The Zone" soften the blows, making this a really wonderful piece of spartan
techno.

Petre Inspirescu - Vintul Prin Salcii

with his third album 'vin ploile' the bucharest, romania based producer, musician and dj petre in-spirescu captured a whole new audience in 2015 and reached out with minimal leftfield ambient sounds to music loving folks, that are not part of the world-wide dance music universe.
well known as one of the key figures of the romanian electronic dance music scene since his first ep 'tips' on luciano's label cadenza, inspirescu stepped away from club sounds that made him famous due to releases on labels like vinyl club, lick my deck or amphia.
also his two solo albums 'intr-o seara organica...' and 'gradina onirica', both released on a:rpia:r, the record label he initiated with his buddies rhadoo and raresh in 2007, do not have much in common with the sound of 'vin ploile' - a mesmerizing deeply musical album that he only tuned in with some elements of piano, string and wind instruments as well as analogue electronics.
at the end of 2015 his nine slow swinging arrangements where celebrated in many polls and now, just a bit more than one year after the release of 'vin ploile' petre inspirescu delivers 'vîntul prin salcii' - another longplayer enlarged with seven, up to epic twelve minutes long arrangements, that continue where 'vin ploile' ceased.
they all listen to the name 'miroslav' and only differ numerically in their title. you can call them ambi-ent. you can call them minimal music in the sense of classic compositions by steve reich or terry riley. they groove - sometimes more, sometimes less. and they spread the sounds of flutes or saxophones, delicate piano figures, organic jazz drumming, arpeggiated analogue synth-lines, mesmerizing strings, choral singing, alienated looped vocals and spaced out new aged spheres.
what unites them all is the way, the melodies dance upon and in each single tune. their beautiful tex-tures ensnare and they are continuously engaged with experimentation. a mystical album full of evolu-tionary music to which each listener is able to paint his very own emotional picture. moody, dark and at the same time light-flooded shape-shifting compositions - made for those who love to surrender them-selves to a gentle dance between experimentation and attractiveness.
the cover artwork for petre inspirescu's album was made again by the illustrator and photographer julian vassallo, who's artistic works fascinate with a touching spirit of distance, that captures the truth in each single motif. just like petre inspirescu's music, only that his art grooves with notes that tell somehow: there is no truth. there is only perception.

Yally (raime) - Burnt / Sudo

Yally(Raime)

Burnt / Sudo

12inchBK12X1201
Boomkat Editions
16.11.2016

Yally is a new project from Raime, who inaugurate a new series of one-sided releases from Boomkat Editions which will run over the next few months. It features two scudding, killer steppers productions from Raime's expert bladesmen, Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead on a rare away-day from Blackest Ever Black.
With a deep blue, skunked-out appeal right on the lip of late '90s garage and early '00s grime, London's dankest duo compound, reflect and relieve the choking intensity of their recent 2nd
album Tooth on the paranoid bruiser Burnt and its dread inversion Sudo, making up their most 'floor-dedicated session in more than five years of operations.

Drawn from muscle memory of 2-step's transition from champagne-soaked knees-up into paradoxically dense but spacious, stoned and impending sound designs, they form a sort of coming-to-terms with that epoch's innovations in much the same way that their Moin release firmly grappled with inextinguishable influence from the studio genius of Steve Albini and This Heat.
Burnt pins us by the windpipe with Stanley shanked hi-hats and ratty claps whilst cavernous,
amorphous subs bruise flesh and dislocated yelps of pleasure/pain break thru rictus jaws. Think
El-B or Hatcha echoing out of a graveyard slot on pirate radio circa '03.
With Sudo they pronate on the tightest, simmering halfstep; harnessing illicitly overloaded,
vintage Air Max PSI allowance with shoulder rolling organ motif and nerve-tying ligature, perhaps imagining the pre-echoes of earliest Hyperdub or a Black Ops joint that even Jon E Cash was too shook to issue.
Boomkat Editions began life in 2012 as an occasional series of diverse releases pressed up in limited runs and not tied down to any particular genre. Coming into the label's fifth year, and Boomkat's 19th year of selling independent records, the BK12X12 series will host a series of what we consider to be crucial platters from our favourite artists; producers and musicians who have defined, expanded and soundtracked modern musical spheres beyond the mainstream.

Black Sun Empire - The Wrong Room

* The Blackout train has well and truly left the station already in 2017, and with the year's debut single from Black Sun Empire featuring collaborations with Noisia and Pythius the momentum that is being gathered so early is bordering on frightening.

* BSE have delivered another beautifully constructed single that blends the tough sound fans are used to with Noisia's brains and Pythius' brawn. The depth of knowledge and talent in tandem with BSE's creative capacity makes the single just the adrenaline shot the scene needed to jump start the year. 'The Veil' takes a more scaled back approach by pushing its energy through a souled out bassline, whilst Pythius' influence can be heard in 'Catalyst' as it swings violently, yet gracefully, through a string of hot tempered breaks.

* The great news is that this is not just a single release, but the prologue to an epic journey that Black Sun Empire are to embark upon in 2017, with the group stating recently:
'we're excited to announce we've been working on our next album and we're almost finished, can't wait to tell everyone more about it soon'

* As a statement this is incredible news, as many fans and peers have been waiting for a BSE longplayer for a while. However, when you look at 'The Veil'/'Catalyst' as the hors d'oeuvre and appetiser, the main course is guaranteed to attain Michelin star status.

2x12inchACRELP006OB
Black Acre
21.11.2016

* After storming the gates with his warmly received 'Tambacounda EP', Clap! Clap! returns to Black Acre to deliver his debut longplayer. 'Tayi Bebba' is a conceptual work that manages to balance a highly cerebral concept with making some good old-fashioned bangers. 'Tayi Bebba' is an album tour of an imagined island; each song representing a location, event or ritual. Sonically, it's a fast moving charge across the soundscape, fusing field recordings and found sound with incredibly surgical drum programming. Flavours of House, Footwork and Hip Hop punctuate your migration with a very specific sound palate, giving this amazing work a cohesive feel.

* About Clap Clap:
Clap! Clap!, aka Cristiano Crisci, is an internationally acclaimed producer and performer. One of Italy's brightest new talents, Clap! Clap! brings together disparate inspirations and styles onto the dancefloor of his mind. His music has been supported by Gilles Peterson and featured in GTA V, Boiler Room, Ninja Tune's Solid Steel mix series, and the FABRIC mix CD series. He has performed his energetic live shows across Europe and Japan and produced for Paul Simon.

* Clap! Clap!'s music is a unique blend of global dance and timeless sounds drawing from nature, traditional music, field recordings and the electronic savvy of modern centres like Chicago and London. At its core is the inspiration of everyday life, what Crisci calls 'the search for new flavours.' This approach anchors Clap! Clap!'s debut album, 2014's 'Tayi Bebba', the soundtrack to a tour of an imaginary island. Paul Simon discovered the album through his son, calling it 'a masterpiece' and leading him to approach Crisci for help with his latest album, 2016's 'Stranger To Stranger'.

Klute - Read Between The Lines

* Tom Withers fiiiiinally returns with his 8th Klute album entitled 'Read Between The Lines'.

* Written in a stone hut on the Shetland Islands over the course of 2016, Klute, AKA Tom Withers soon realised he would need more than a bongo and a Ukulele to bring his vision to fruition.

* Plans for a 6 month residency at Air Lyndhurst Studios were placed on hold after he received their quote, so Tom retreated to his own PBJ Studio and - with the help of a revolutionary sub bass simulation pack, a computer and a grant from the Wessington Howarth Foundation for the incompetent- he shat out his 8th full length LP 'Read Between The Lines'.

* As is tradition with every Klute album, the music does not stop at Drum & Bass. Klute's love affair with a vast array of influences shine through every note and beat. Elements of Techno, Film Soundtracks, Library, Shoegaze, Experimental Jazz, 60's psychedelia and Ambient soundscapes are scattered across this entire work.

* Drumming is at the core of Klute's artistry, having nagged his Mum to buy him a drum set at the age of 12 (she finally relented believing it would be broken and ignored within weeks).
Tom's superlative poly rhythms and deeply melancholic melodies are central to this 15 track set. Aided along the way by Stamina MC, Robert Manos & hotly tipped new comer Naomi Pryor on vocal duties adding to what is already being seen as one of Klute's best albums yet.

* 'My main objective was to make a record that was equally exciting to listen to both loudly and quietly - equal parts physical and mental.

* The title 'Read Between The Lines' is an urging to look beyond the face value, not just in my own music, but with everything you experience in life. This album will grown with you the more you listen and experience it. The surface layers will reveal all manor of underlying textures and feelings. Im immensely proud of this work and I really believe people will enjoy it.'

* Klute receives support from Goldie, Doc Scott, Fabio, Friction, Mary Ann Hobbs, DJ Marky, Marcus Intalex, DJ Storm and many others

06.03.2017

Gondwana Records are delighted to announce the signing of composer, bassist and producer Phil France. A key collaborator alongside Jason Swinscoe in the Cinematic Orchestra, France was responsible for some of the most heartrendingly beautiful music created in recent times. Co-writing, arranging and producing on the Cinematic Orchestra albums including Everyday, Man With a Movie Camera, Ma Fleur and also the triple award winning soundtrack for The Crimson Wing nature documentary, France's skills have always extended beyond his bass-lines. France who signed a three album deal with Gondwana earlier this year, is currently working on new material for release in Autumn 2017, but first up is a worldwide re-release for his debut solo recording, The Swimmer, a beautiful beguiling "soundtrack" for a film that hasn't been made yet. Originally released in October 2013 it is deeply emotive and epic in scale and draws it influences from the great second wave of film composers including John Carpenter and Vangelis, as well as minimalist composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. France's skill, in this album, as well as his work with The Cinematic Orchestra, is in soundtracking human emotion - The Swimmer is full of heartbreak and recovery, strength, honesty and frailty, it is meditative and hopeful. The Swimmer will be released on 27th Feb 2017. The Swimmer will be supported by three remixes: Joy Of Brass - Mr. Scruff Remix The Swimmer - Graham Massey Remix (808 State) Transition - Kristian Gjerstad Remix Full servicing to all key media with reviews in Mojo, Record Collector, BBC Music Magazine, Jazzwise and DJ Magazine expected. The album and mixes will be serviced to all key international DJs with support from Gilles Peterson and Lauren Laverne on 6 Music, Ross Allen, Patrick Forge, DJ Lefto and beyond.

Scuba Death - The Worm At The Core

An innate facet of the human condition is the very personal way we choose to process our own fatality. Faced with dealing with the feelings of anxiety, death and fear after nearly drowning whilst diving in the South Atlantic in his youth, Ricardo Donoso chose to channel them into his creative process. The result was Scuba Death, a project that was fully realised on Donoso's widely acclaimed 2014 Further debut, Nitrogen Narcosis. After spending time devoted to establishing his Kathexis label as well as delivering a trilogy of albums under his given name for the Denovali label, Donoso returns to Further with a second Scuba Death offering, The Worm At The Core. The 36 minutes of The Worm At The Core expand on the creeping conceptual thrust of that Scuba Death debut, the title referencing the work of late 19th Century American philosopher William James. In his 1902 book, The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature, James described the knowledge we all must die as 'the worm at the core' of the human condition, further adding that this universally-shared fear informs all our urges, be it creative or destructive. New Release Information Donoso continues to funnel this innate fear for positive, creative means on The Worm At The Core, which presents an important element of continuity from his previous journey to the depths as Scuba Death. The melodic strains that signalled the end of Nitrogen Narcosis on ten minute closer 'Rapture Of The Deep' resurface to shape the opening movements of The Worm At The Core on 'Paradox Of Finitude'.

Andy Pain / Robustus / Eastcolors Remix Enei / Stash - Requisites #2

In this day and age vinyl releases are getting rare in drum & bass but still we at Demand cherish them. Requisites our brand new 6 part 33 rpm series is an ode to the vinyl culture. Every release symbolizes one particular requisite that you'd evidently need to rock the so called black gold. Here served by, what else could it be, a butler we start of with the headphones...

Musically that includes the ever magnificent Phil Tangent who contributes Misgivings, a roller that effortlessly switches from euphoria to dark tones. The legend Big Bud in collaboration with Austria's finest RoyGreen, Protone & Dual on Gospodi. A smooth liquid outing that we just fell in love. The ever surprising Eastcolors with Naked Skin that brings in low slung tempo with the vocal wonder Tiiu and last but not least Demand's own nurtured talent Phase who rounds of the first part with Abundance. As the name suggests it is absolutely rich in form of vibes!

The statement that is pressed on the vinyl label couldn't be more clear... "listen to it" and we're sure you'll fall in love.

Manchester producer Anz' self-titled debut comes at the crest of two years' scenewide hype around her breathless brand of UK club music. Also the maiden release from local club night-cum-label Chow Down, the record is as much informed by Anz' time as the night's most in-demand resident DJ as by her instincts in the studio. These are tracks shaped by a good few encounters with Manchester's roiling 2 A.M. crowds. This isn't to suggest a uniform sound - Anz' ear for interplay brings her many influences together in sprawling constellations of style. Jolting to life on the Bassline- and Funky-referencing steel percussion romp "Panrico", the record then slows to a half-time 808 lurch on "Clanger". The flip sees "Loa" flex dense polyrhythms and coarse Sublow bass before "Fencin" brings it home in a final flourish of crystalline synthwork.

'To Nowhere' is the 3rd full-length album from Undead Labs sound designer/composer Kevin Patzelt's dreissk project. The album features Patzelt's now recognizable post-apocalyptic slant on ambient, post-rock and industrial motifs.

Not as foreboding as its predecessors 'edge_horizon' and 'the finding', 'To Nowhere's' thematic core is that of a journey. But to where This ideal is what dreissk has always left up to the listener. To Nowhere is a celebration of the album as a format by eschewing sporadic changes that are often present in post-industrial music which gives each track time to stretch and breathe into full-on explorations of movement, tension, and ephemeral moments of optimism.

The highlight of To Nowhere is the trilateral 'A Long Road/Of Approaching Light/Near The Shore' being a journey unto itself. With "Near The Shore" possibly being the most widescreen ambient piece in dreissk's catalog.

Last Days debut, 'Sea' told the story of one man's journey. Now with his 5th album, 'Seafaring', Graham Richardson returns to the sea to examine a range of vocations and exploits adrift.

Drawing inspiration from shipping routes, to Ernest Shackleton and his crew's ill-fated voyage on the Endurance, to families being disjointed and reunited, Seafaring goes some way to hint at what the oceans present to us. Seafaring reflects on it's subject matter by coherently linking moments that are minimal and still, to those that are compelling and cinematic.

Seafaring will be the first Last Days album pressed on vinyl and will be available in white or clear as well as digipak compact disc

Mario Hammer And The Lonely Robot - L'esprit De L'escalier

This full length CD album by Mario Hammer and And The Lonely Robot might come as a surprise to you, because you might not have them on the radar. But Mario has already left traces of his skill especially by releasing single trax of modular music on our series Tour De Traum as well as recording under the name of RWAC. Since then people had caught up on to him... like Robert Babicz who asked him for remixes and DJs like Dominik Eulberg who inspired him to leave the path of dance culture and to work just with sounds. The result is a 60 minute non dance full analogue piece of modular music: L'esprit De L'escalier.

Mario has been a fan of old analogue synths for most of his life and has teamed up for some tracks here with Josef Steinbüchel who shares a similar love for synths and has contributed by exchanging sounds as well as ideas. With "L'esprit De L'escalier" they have written 13 tracks over a period of a year. Many ideas were born in the process of writing. Only "Metaphysical Orchestra" and Simiri (Hammeriosche Modulatschaltung) were released before on Traum and appear here in a different version.

Mario describes it this way: "I had very carefully selected synths to begin with. Each synth for me has an outstanding "color" in its sound. Josef had bought synths I had not and so we exchanged sounds and ideas on 4-5 of the tracks.

The album developed in this way that I started to write a track and I was looking for a transition to connect it too the next track and sometimes ended up creating a full track out of a transition. Sometimes I wrote a cluster of 3-4 tracks which I later completed by adding analogue clicks and noises.

Two tracks I wrote in one take and did not change. I must say I was amazed in how far things found their place... one pice of the puzzle settled into the next one. It was a spiritual moment for me."

The full album is loosely worked around BPMs by following the speed of LFOs /arpeggiators so the experience you get from listening to the tracks is totally soothing and as we know our ears are not made for quantized and compressed sounds in the first place

The album can be divided roughly in two parts as the mood switches about halftime when "Yugon" introduces a beautiful and darker side...

The album starts with the pulsating "Mono No Aware" that sets a stream of sounds free not unlike a focussed intensive golden sun beam. When the track moves towards gracefully archaic melodies, you instantly feel drawn towards them as if your inner self had always asked for them.

"Chakwira" (walking through a muddy place making a squelching sound, African) starts directly with a polyphonic melody, dazzling in its melancholic tone. It blends over into the soothing and warm "Hyggelig". The word derives from the Danish language and means "a complete absensence of anything annoying and the pleasure of comfort" and we can hear this happening here alongside a superb enveloping sound as gigantic as the legendary synth sound on Vapourspace's "Gravitational Arch Of 10" (Plus 8)

Then slowly the title track "L'esprit De L'escalier" cues in. It is one of two tracks with a length of almost ten minutes and the track makes use of a spectacular melodic sequence that changes in tempo and intensity and has feelings running high! The meaning of

"L'esprit De L'escalier" is: "the feeling you get after leaving a conversation, when you think of all the things you should have said."

Some of you will know "Metaphysical Orchestra" from the Tour de Traum X which we releases in July. It appears here in combination with another sequence, which fundamentally changes the feeling of the track. In comparison to the previous track it is very busy, very lively. It almost comes to a point where is virtually boils.

Followed by "Nyctophilia" which constitutes a strong contrast in every way and which seeks comfort in darkness to quote out of the CD booklet. It is the second of the two 10 minute tracks. It was recorded in one take and therefore has a strong live appeal including a gigantic break down about halftime. It might be the most epic track of the CD.

"Yugen" introduces the darker side of the CD with filtered down chords and sound forcefully rising to the surface as well as an oasis of quiet moments of happiness.

"Kaiho" almost sounds Asian in comparison and later when the track turns experimental gains movement which reminds us of early Pink Floyd.

"Sirimiri (Hammersche Modularverschaltung)" is the most Krautrock sounding track, to use a Julian Cope term here. Musicians and bands like Amon Düül, Klaus Schulze, Cluster (Conrad Schnitzler, Dieter Moebius und Hans-Joachim Roedelius) spring to the mind here.

"Symphony Of Pulsing" follows and the transfer is somehow incredible since with your mind still with " Sirimiri (Hammersche Modularverschaltung)" this accounts for a 360 degree change of mood.

We expect "Yuyin" to calm down and indeed the track is more loose and seems to have a stronger improvised end to it.

"Eigengrau" catches the remnants to form a track which connects to "Sirimiri" in style but makes stronger turns into a different direction.

"Nefelibata" is the so called outro track which in the last minute was enhanced with a beautiful

sound Mario Hammer came across bringing the album to an analogous end.

12inchKOM293 LP+CD+7"
Kompakt
17.03.2014

Marcus Worgull and Danilo Plessow (Motorcity Drum Ensemble) are the members of the Vermont project.

With an artist roster as prolific and well-established as Kompakt's, you won't find much downtime that could be used for new entries to the catalogue. That's why we are especially happy to not only present the inaugurating full-length of VERMONT, but also introduce two distinguished producers to the fold that have built their impressive careers in our immediate vicinity, albeit appearing on the label for the very first time: Innervisions' MARCUS WORGULL and DANILO PLESSOW (of MOTOR CITY DRUM ENSEMBLE fame), two floor familiars praised for their gripping club tunes that showcase a surprisingly unwound and novel side to their respective artist personas.

With VERMONT, MARCUS WORGULL and DANILO PLESSOW submit a noticeably mature work that seems to come from a well attuned production duo, effectively concealing the fact that this is their first collaborative effort... and a decidedly informal one at that: these cuts were not conceived with specific aesthetic goals in mind, but emerged from a series of loose jam sessions disclosing the trespassing spirit of the sonic adventurer. It's in the sanctum of Danilo's former Cologne studio, surrounded by an armada of vintage analogue synthesizers, that the two music buffs somewhat inadvertently tapped into the city's collective subconsciousness and minted fourteen sleek soundscapes of almost krautrockish proportions.

Exhibiting high amounts of arpeggiated curiosity and following a factual no-sampling policy, tracks like wonderstruck opener YAIZA, undulating bleepfest DYNAMIK, the cinematic

ELEKTRON or ambient ballad MAJESTÄT are immersed in the enticing allure of freeform sequencing, even deciding to forego the full-blown percussion kits we've come to love in the two producers' main bodies of work. The restricted rhythmic pallet pays off extraordinarily well, as can be heard in the rich, breathing textures of KATZENJAMMER, DROIXHE or EBBE: if inclined to do so, one could label them as introspective synth poems, albeit with a strong sense for structure and dramaturgy that speaks volumes about the musical kinship of their originators - with or without drums.

Keeno - Music For Orchestra: Drum & Bass

KEENO's latest project 'Music For Orchestra: Drums & Bass' fuses two worlds, pumping rich classical scores with an underground drum & bass heartbeat. The recording of live orchestral elements in four new tracks has propelled his distinctive repertoire to new heights, making an incredible follow-up to his sophomore album 'Life Cycle'.

Opening track 'Enigma' balances thick staccato strings, long drawn harmonics and weighty bass for full impact. Since Keeno took part in Enter Shikari's 'Hospitalised' remix album frontman Rou Reynolds has been a big fan. He's returned the favour with a vocal lead on 'Shelter From The Storm' where natural elements create an earthly atmosphere for this deep bassy roller. Turning to Keeno's more dancefloor focused persona 'Fading Fast' mixes a heavy reverberating bassline with sharp breaths of strings to create a tension-building, powerful counterpart. Finally, the church-like vocals of 'Insomnia Of An Anxious Mind' echo the somber sounds of late night emotions - a satisfyingly moody alternative to Keeno's usual uplifting magic.

Kiny - Damaged Memory

Roberto Bosco has selected in recent months Kiny's music, to better prepare his first 12 ", consisting of four tracks, named 'Damaged

Memory'. The track Unknown (A1) leads off the dance of the release on Last Drop Records imprint. It's a proper exploration in an

unknown sonic territory to most of the people, and also a difficult element to make out for those who are novice to the visionary

component in the musical poetic of Kiny. The track starts with rounds of recurring sirens, almost deafening, framed by dark and

ghostly noises. Something not easily identifiable, ambiguous and unknown, as the title itself says, is perceptible in its sound. All this

helps to shape a bad presage that fades away into the mystery.

On the same side we find Pain Is Full (A2) that, according to the producer, was

born in a moment of pain which can be overcome only by fighting. In fact, the track is characterized by a more combative and insistent

tone, made up by the sound of snare and tom entering since the start and determining an atmosphere of contrast able to shake the

listener until the end. Shouts of encouragement suggest an initiation rite in which there is struggle for survival.

The titletrack, Damaged Memory (B1) has more quiet register with less ghostly vocals, perceived at times, unlike the previous tracks.

The sounds have a vanished effect, such as when you create a halo on a white sheet with the dust of a pencil just sharpened. You will

hear a sort of democracy among the sounds held together by the voice, a metaphor of a damaged memory, as the title itself recite, that

always makes the same process till the end: it commences by recalling but then forgets. Last, is the version of the producer Iori,

Damaged Memory (B2), on the same side. The Japanese remixer begins with a 4/4 architecture and well-articulated sounds, perfect for

warming up the dancefloor, a jolly track which contributes to the experimental tone, but invariably mystical of the entire release.

Pilocka Krach is Sugar Cane & The Lost Amigos , her band and all at once. Her style is pure electro post rave simplicity, where each single sound is either raw sampling cuts or deep growling synthesis. Big basslines meet funky grooves and surprising hooks, grooving along with her own voice and a lot of other vocal features, whereever you go. Each 'n everthing gets the room it deserves and mingles alltogether to so much more, than just another stereo sum. Never heard an album that dry and that wet at the same time, with an overall fun and jam factor, that is truly touching. Sad City - Introduction To Lisboa

Following up from the stunning 'You Will Soon Find That Life Is Wonderful' 12' on Phonica's Special Edi- tions imprint, Sad City returns to the label with his new EP 'Introduction To Lisboa/ Sloe'.

Glasgow-based producer Gary Caruth has evolved a highly original sound; deep, lush and widescreen electronics, from melancholic to ecstatic. Sonically, he continues where his last record left off and feels like the perfect companion to that well-received debut for Phonica. The record as a whole is composed of field recordings, with the basis for the first half of the EP, 'Introduction to Lisboa,' utilising sound recorded in and around Lisbon. He explains, 'I wanted the music and field recordings to meld at times, to obscure what was conventionally the musical element and what were field recordings, blurring the line between found sound and composition in the creation of a whole other.'

Opening track 'Introduction To Lisboa' builds and builds from near silence to a cacophony of field record- ings and looped horns. It melds into 'Baixa Saxaphone', where carefully paced percussion patiently enters over a wash of synth. From then on a delicate balance of restrained percussion and spine-tingling atmos- pherics interplay before descending into a blissful outro.

Blackout Music
22.07.2016

BLACKOUT MUSIC deliver an oppressive statement with their latest slice of heavy dnb, this time in the form of Slovenian artist TELEKINESIS and their OBEY EP. Delivering 2 powerful tracks designed to ensure the dancefloor submits to the authority of their hard-hitting neurofunk aesthetic, this talented pair of producers step up their game in a significant way for their 3rd outing on one of dnb's most significant Labels.

BREAK's opening evokes the intro Prodigys Smack my Bitch Up before dropping into a tear out rave destroyer of the highest order. SHUT UP shifts the EP back into deadly serious territory with a mean edge and brutal half step smackdown delivered in the 2nd drop.

Telekenesis have carved a strong path with their releases to date, following up effective forays on Bad Taste and Eatbrain with an EP truly worthy of the standard set by Blackout Music NL. The OBEY EP sees these producers once again delivering on their promising talent and brutally taking control of the sound system to represent Blackouts mighty sound.

Ulrich Troyer - Songs For William 3

** 2LP COMPLETE WITH DIGITAL DOWNLOAD CODE & 7 INCH SIZED 32-PAGES COMIC NOVEL***

With "Songs For William 3" Ulrich Troyer presents the final part of his experimental dub trilogy. The hand-drawn bonus track is entitled "William - The Seven Year Itch". A comic novel narrating the story of a breakup from the perspective of a stomp box called William and a MS-20 filter clone named Charlotte.

The music of the album is oscillating between euphoria and depression - fascinating with hypnotic lines and solos played by various analogue and modular synthesizers, stomp boxes and effect units, recharged by sprinkles of guitars, melodica, talk box & vocoder. All ingredients are rooted in a massive and warm bass fundament and refined with forward thinking dub excursions. This time the project was not only supervised but also co-produced by Kassian Troyer (Dial). His crucial ears and suggestions and the final Stem-Mastering were significantly responsible for the unique overall sound character of the climax of this experimental dub trilogy.

The hypnotic opening track At Muff's Place arrives melancholic and introverted, evoking smoked out nights and all night long connections. Back On The Market with it's skanking offbeat chords and the charming vocoder line, lifts the mood of the album towards euphoria - William seems to be dating again. The irresistible groove of Dark Roots makes a deadlock impossible. Megalomaniac Microsynth slows down the tempo of the album and gives space to inventive future dub treatment. The catchy 8-bit & cyber-horn driven track Horny Chiptunes picks up the pace again. The journey continues with a G-Funk-feel infected track entitled Cruising Down The Belt featuring a talk box and an alpha juno synth strings line - perfect for playing on car sound systems while driving aimlessly through the city. The backlash of depression hits again: I Miss Your Noise is heavily featuring a paraphonic MS-20 and culminating into a big shoegazing Kraut-Dub drone. Alone On A Crowded Bus forms the sad and disturbing, but nonetheless beautiful end of this unique and fascinating journey.

Chase Smith - Kuurujauq Computer Music

Alleviated veteran Ben Jenkins launches his new vinyl label Partial Magic with Pittsburgh's Chase Smith. Chase turns in four cuts of percolating-hissing drum machines and squirting- gibbering oscillators. The whole quivering ensemble chugs with an electro snap and a steady dance mania clip until the cool- down of silky and sensuous pads on the closing track.

CD

As the dust begins to settle on one of his most significant and pivotal bodies of work to date - the critically acclaimed techno-focused 'Grow' released by Craig Richards on The Nothing Special - Calibre returns to his own label Signature for another fathomless LP exploration. Laced and spaced with the precision balance of sounds, speeds and styles he's known for, and predominantly characterised by his own lyrics and vocal textures, 'Deep' once again reminds us of Calibre's singular status as an artist whose creations transcend time, tempo and territory. Ranging from one of his most in-demand dubs 'No One Gets You' to poignant yearning introspection of tracks such as 'Better Than Me' and the rolling, jazzy broken beat summer serenade 'Lit', 'Deep' is yet another accomplished, alluring and truly unique pieces of work from one of electronic music's most consistent and prolific artists.

Coil - Astral Disaster
  • 01: The Sea Priestess
  • 02: 2Nd Son Syndrome
  • 03: I Don't Want To Be The One
  • 04: The Avatars
  • 05: The Mothership And The Fatherland

"Coil descended into the bowels of the Sun Dial studios, surrounded by manacles and chains under the level of the River Thames in the Ancient Borough of Southwark, to commit what would become one of their most possessing sides. Astral Disaster was the result: two correlating hemispheres channelling, meditative, eastern raga drone with sage-like poetry and electro-acoustic phantasmagorias, projecting a plasmic miasma of pharmaceutical shimmer and surreality that's pretty much arch Coil. If there's any one big reason you need it, though, that would be the amazing B-side, The Mothership and The Fatherland, framing creaking wooden drums and the gibber-chin shivers of swarming, translucent studio duppies in a diaphanous soundfield of freefall ambient atmospheres—basically the sound of ketamine in the '90s. Makes us want to melt. Massive recommendation!" —Boomkat

In 1998, Coil were invited to record at Sun Dial's studios beneath the London Bridge Hop Exchange—a studio originally know as Samurai Studios, originally built and owned by Iron Maiden. The premises in Victorian times was an old debtors prison which had three underground levels, and still had the original chains, manacles and wrought iron doors from the old prison. This caught the attention of John Balance, who was very keen to record there. Coil spent a number of days recording at the studio during Halloween 1998. With Gary Ramon's help, they developed a number of tracks, some of which resulted in this LP. Ramon produced and mixed the "Astral Disaster" recordings, as well as playing guitar and sitar on these sessions. A version of the album was later remixed by the band and released on their own label—but the Prescription mixes as released in 1999 are unique.

This is the first time the album is being released in any digital format. These rare recordings were part of the legendary subscription-only Prescription label album series in the late 1990's, issued in an edition of 99 signed and numbered vinyl copies, long since sold out. (If you are wondering, originals fetch £700+). Taken from the original masters, this digipack reissue includes original sleeve artwork, eight page art booklet, and the facsimile signatures of John Balance and Peter Christopherson that came with the LP release.

- First time CD and digital reissue of possibly the rarest of all Coil recordings

- Recorded in 1998 at Sun Dial studios, in the bowels of a Victorian era debtor's prison

Sordid Sound System - Fear Eats The Soul

'Fear Eats The Soul' is the third release from Sordid Sound System on Invisible Inc. His previous two records 'In A Year Of 13 Moons' and 'Lux Exterior' have been getting plays from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Manfredas, John Talabot, Idjut Boys and Thomas Von Party.

Describing 'Fear Eats The Soul' as a concept EP made by four imaginary bands from Detroit, New York, Paris and Munich, Sordid Sound System says:

'I'm pissed off with passive aggressive shabby chic artisan boutiques besieging my studio and complaining about the noise, I'm pissed off with coked up yuppy hipsters in land rovers taking over my neighbourhood with fancy restaurants with names that sound like fucking law firms, I'm pissed off at the resurgence of the far right and creeping fascism, I'm pissed off with self sabotaging English and American voters and the neo liberal corporate elites that have pissed away opportunities and alienated them, I'm pissed off with modern recording technology creating a sea of homogenous unimaginative beige bullshit, and I'm really pissed off that my favourite drummer Jaki Leibezeit is dead, but apart from that it's all good, enjoy the new record.'

Abul Mogard / Maurizio Bianchi - Nervous Hydra / All This Has Passed Forever

Ecstatic's stunning split release between Maurizio Bianchi, godfather of the Italian industrial noise scene, and Abul Mogard, the much loved and hyperstitious synthesist, conjures a spellbinding testament to the transcendent and transportive energies of electronic music.
Although appearing to starkly contrast on the surface, both artist's work patently shares a lust for the suggestive abstraction of raw current and its pareidolia-like capacity to generate rich and uncanny emotional responses from the end user.
On the A-side, Maurizio Bianchi serves the obfuscated, coruscating atmosphere of Nervous Hydra, a 17 minute piece of sunken, desiccated harmonic structures and warped greyscale tones rinsed with ET radio signals and distant percussion that recall the sound of embers landing on tinfoil or snow. It evokes the experience of being caught in a quietly raging whiteout with only a dying fire for company, or equally a sense of subaquatic, amniotic serenity prior to being evacuated into a much colder world.
Listeners can trust that the Italian artist's first new work in several years is faithful to his ever-uncompromising oeuvre, but there's also a tantalisingly elusive sense of redemption buried deep in there which marks it out from the rest of his canon and close to the work of his antecedents such as Kevin Drumm and Jim Haynes. In that piece's tempestuous wake, Abul Mogard brings a sense of soothing, glacial calm with All This Has Passed Forever on the B-side.
For 16 blissed minutes, Mogard spells out a nostalgic fantasy in creamy strokes of Farfisa organ and Serge modular recorded at EMS studios, Stockholm, and later combined with field recordings to elicit a wistfully widescreen paean to his days on the workshop floor accompanied by the harmonious drones and cacophony of heavy machinery.
No matter the piece's provenance, though, it's simply a sublime example of Abul Mogard's gift for illusive, suspenseful ambient music which has seen his previous releases sky-rocket in 2nd hand value since their earliest, sold-out editions.
Over 30 minutes of ostensibly contrasting yet subtly, similarly spirited pieces that speak to the mystery and enigma of electronic music's tortured, searching and romantic soul in equal measure.

Macca & Loz Contreras - Better World

'Fokuz Recordings proudly presents the Better World LP by powerhouse duo Macca & Loz Contreras.

With their classic Liquid Funk inspired sound the Leeds/Portsmouth based duo have built a steady reputation as DJ's and producers pursuing the more soulful end of the Drum & Bass spectrum. No bombastic kicks and snares here. They tend to stay true to their uplifting ethos through reworking iconic soul samples into danceable feel good grooves underlined by natural-sounding breaks that roll with ease.

The Better World LP showcases the duo's best work to date. In addition to a string of new cuts also 4 previous released tracks are included in the package. These works are some of their most highly regarded tracks which obviously couldn't be left out. The new tracks include a vocal featuring by Hannah Eve + remixes by Lenzman, FD and S.P.Y In addition to their work as a duo this extended album also includes solo efforts by both Macca and Loz Contreras.

A few years ago we received an anonymous email with a link to three tracks and a simple
message: 'Hi, maybe you would be interested in this music.'

It's easy to be skeptical of yet another link from yet another artist in a world overcrowded with them, but listening is our job and so we do it. The songs were instantly striking: extraordinarily slow, somber, and spacious, each vaulted cathedral chord reverberating poetically into the distance, the melodies rolling out like fog across a cemetery.

Captivated, we requested more, receiving a single word in response: 'Yes.' Then, nothing. Eventually, three months later, we received another email with slightly more information: a name (Irma Orm), a location (Stockholm), and a bit of context (she worked alone, and progress on music was slow but steady ).

Fast-forward to mid-2016: we're informed the album is complete, and it is breathtaking. Hermetic gothic swan songs conjured from funereal piano, twilit ambience, minimalist percussion, and spellbinding vocals.

The mood is lulling and lush but lost in sorrow, stark grey structures looming in the night. Majestic open spaces between notes heighten the melancholic grandeur of Orm's arrangements, blurring the line between lament and lullaby. The songs less end than ebb away, succumbing to their own downcast beauty.

Hi Dave,

Surprise! This is a new - and final - L. Pierre album, which I'm hoping you and the Melodic team would like to release. Rather than send you MP3s and emails and all those ones and zeroes, I thought it best to post you a dubplate in exactly the way I'd like to see it released. There's some background to this one, so here you go ...

You'll notice that the record labels state that all the samples I've used are from Nathan Milstein's version of a Mendelssohn concerto - this is what was on the very first 33 1/3rpm long-playing 12' record in 1948. (There was a 33 1/3rpm 10' by Frank Sinatra first, but that was technically a compilation; Milstein's was the first proper 12' album as we came to know it.) These samples from the original 1948 release were all ripped from YouTube, the biggest free music streaming platform in the world.

I want to release the album as you have it right now: a vinyl-only LP, no digital whatsoever - indeed, upon the release date, I want to delete all the digital source files and any online promo streams we might do (we'll have to advertise it in some way, of course). And on top of that, I want to release it with no sleeve. There are a few ideas here. Firstly, I don't want a pristine, digital document that could last forever; I want the music left to the elements, I want it to live and scar, with each record's acquired crackles, pops and scratches making them unique and identifiable to their owners. And while the natural thing to do with a naked record is protect it, I think it could be interesting to see how folk respond when we hand that responsibility over. Also, the sleeveless LP will look like one of those dusty, vulnerable strays you find in charity shops, which is precisely where L. Pierre began.

Another thing I'd like to do is have a locked groove at the end, adding another wee element of interaction - the album won't stop until the listener decides it should (which also works as an analogy for the resilience of vinyl in our digital age). And because the death of the album is proclaimed every few months these days, I wanted it to sound like a sort of ironic requiem. The title's an unfinished tombstone with no date of death: '1948 - .'.

If we do this, it will absolutely, definitely be the last ever record from L. Pierre (there's that requiem echo again). The End.

Anyway, hope you like it, and I do realise that a vinyl-only, self-destructive dialogue on the value of music and its new platforms, culture's cyclical nature, the supposed death of the album - and the seeming immortality and inherent nostalgia of vinyl - doesn't sound like the most lucrative of ventures, but I hope it's an idea that a few folk might connect with. And I think it sounds quite lovely too!

Cheers,
Aidan

Dreamy Harbor (3x12")

3x12inchTRESOR291LP
Tresor
16.03.2017

When Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann stumbled into a former bank vault in East Berlin on March 13th 1991, he had little idea that the space he had unlocked would fast become one of Berlin's most influential and enduring techno clubs. "We didn't know what would happen 10 months later," he says. "We signed a lease for a year. Which eventually got renewed for another three months, and another three months.."

As Tresor celebrates its 25th anniversary with this work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno - economic neglect and broken industry - were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin, where techno found new, vigorous expression.

Today, though the boom and bust of globalised capitalism has filled the void that followed the Berlin Wall, and techno has become a worldwide industry, we face a new political chapter, one defined by populism, nationalism and mistrust. Contemporary creatives should take inspiration from Tresor's story, an extraordinary experiment born from improvisation, resourcefulness and social neglect that uplifted the spirits of inner city communities for a quarter-century.

This record marks the spirit of those 25 years of creativity, a paean to the psychedelic music of Dimitri's youth. From the signature magnetic soundscapes of Vainqueur to the dark textures of upcoming Beijing producer Shao; from Jon Hassell's slow epicurean volutes, to the ritual auras of Marcelus and Claudia Anderson's contributions; from the dub-infused pioneering programming of Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald, to Mønic's enthralling cadences, it represents some of the old and new names that continually epitomise Tresor's perennial spirit of ingenuity. "We were space pioneers," says Dimitri.

The East Berlin of 1991 may have disappeared to gentrification, with Tresor's lonely vanguard joined by an army of venues catering to an international array of clubbers benefiting from low cost travel, many of whom settle in the city for good. Berlin is Europe's economic engine, headquarters to global industry and sole traders alike, where Polish, Kurdish and English are as likely to be spoken as German. That range of influences is felt in all areas of life, not least in the city's music.

"Without Tresor, Berlin would not be what it is today," concludes Dimitri. "Even though it sounds a bit pretentious, it is true. Tresor was the prototype for an extraordinary club. It was only possible as a combination of the right time, the right place, the right content and determined people."
Excerpt of liner notes, by Rob Sharp - November 2016.

Planet Mu are very excited to announce Jlin's long awaited second album Black Origami'. A percussion-led tour de force, it's a creation that seals her reputation as a unique producer with an exceptional ability to make riveting rhythmic music. Black Origami' is driven by a deep creative thirst which she describes as this driving feeling that I wanted to do something different, something that challenged me to my core. Black Origami for me, comes from letting go creatively, creating with no boundaries. The simple definition of origami is the art of folding and constructing paper into a beautiful, yet complex design. Composing music for me is like origami, only I'm replacing paper with sound. I chose to title the album "Black Origami" because like "Dark Energy" I still create from the beauty of darkness and blackness. The willingness to go into the hardest places within myself to create for me means that I can touch the Infinity.' Spirituality and movement are both at the core of Black Origami', inspired largely by her ongoing collaborations with Indian dancer/movement artist Avril Stormy Unger whom she met and collaborated with at her debut performance for the Unsound festival - 'There is a fine line between me entertaining a person and my spirituality. Avril, who collaborates with me by means of dance, feels the exact same way. Movement played a great role in Black Origami. The track "Carbon 7" is very inspired by the way Avril moves and dances. Our rhythms are so in sync at times it kind of scares us. When there is something I can't quite figure out when it comes to my production, it's like she senses it. Her response to me is always "You'll figure it out". Once I figure it out it's like time and space no longer exist.' Similar time shifting/folding/disrupting effects can be heard throughout the record - especially on Holy Child' an unlikely collaboration with minimalist legend William Basinski. She also collaborates again with Holly Herndon on 1%', while Halcyon Veil producer Fawkes' voice is on Calcination and Cape Town rapper Dope Saint Jude provides vocals for Never Created, Never Destroyed . Jlin will be touring extensively this year and is currently lining up appearances including Sonar festival. Later this year she will be collaborating in London with acclaimed UK choreographer Wayne McGregor who played her music recently on Radio 4's Desert Island Discs and described her music as quite rare and so exciting".

Kiani & His Legion - The Paper Unicorn Ep

After establishing his unique voice on our SOMEWHERE01 compilation, Kiani & His legion is back on Something Happening Somewhere to expand his vision. He has gathered his own sonic palette to transform the underlying consciousness. Being alone with the self, it may seem one's own mind is the only one certain to exist. Not sure if you're the one who's watching from the ground or hanging upside down, the peaks secretly form a unity beyond their separateness.
Air Chrysalis is based around a stomping 808 beat, forming the basis of the vehicle trough which we begin our experience. The metamorphosis slowly commences when dystopian chords and pads uncover monolithic structures floating in mid air. Introducing further elements and a hypnotic skippy bass pattern along the way, it's certain there's no way back now. Giving an energetic punch to the ears, you slowly get sucked into the future sci-fi world Kiani & Hes legion has created for us.
Voigt Kampff takes us further into the cocoon. An epic eight minute anthem that celebrates the transformation, uncovering the veil of what's beneath. The melody slowly grows, rattles and opens up into an ear blistering eruption that will surely devastate some dance floors. It sounds both effortless and musical, an outspoken and intricately woven pattern of vibrations.
Electric takes a dirty and stretchy jungle break and combines it with some of the characteristic elements he introduced before while adding organic layers of marimba and a heartwarming voice to preserve that human touch.
On the B side we also find the majestic Fatima Yamaha remixing Electric, in which he twists the original into a ten minute long hymn that seems to keep building on forever. Starting out with a bad ass synth line, and adding a beautiful haunting and melancholic melody occasionally interrupted by a huge verberated kick. Another victory for the heart and mind.
