Claudja Barry's cult "Love for the sake of love" gets Mike Maurro's magic remix treatment for the 7th release on Brookside Records. This is no ordinary edit or reworking though, Mike got his hands on the actual physical master tapes and turned in a refreshed, original mix of this sleazed out downtempo monster. Well known by underground Disco aficionados by it's inclusion on DJ Harvey's earth shattering and legendary "Sarcastic Study Masters" mix CD from 2001 this mid 70's Tom Moulton mixed number came out on Salsoul and caused quite a stir. This new mix really breathes new life into this stone cold classic, Mike utilises lots of alternative takes, vocal vamps and instrumentation from the original sessions giving us a version that's never been heard before! A completely new, original mix. If that doesn't get all you Disco fiends excited then something is seriously wrong!
On the B-side Mike takes Claudia's "Sweet Dynamite" into a new realm too, again using the master tapes to full effect to create a new, refreshed version of one of her more popular jams, A raucous, slamming club cut. Also released in 1976 and mixed again by Tom Moulton, Mike Maurro's version extends everything in just the right way! His rearrangements and remixes are always respectfully executed and it's clear that Mike understands and feels the tracks he works on. Again, another cult Disco cut reworked beautifully for 2016, essential stuff for all lovers of this kind of music, this release is simply unmissable. The record comes in a full colour picture sleeve and these remixes are exclusive to this release and are fully, 100% legit, licensed and sanctioned by all relevant rights holders.
Simply put, another set of essential mixes from a modern day master! File under - *Essential Disco*

HELENA CELLE is the synth work and multi-dimensional audio practise of Glasgow-based musician Kay Logan. A dedicated 21st century polymath, Logan's interests lie in the power relationships inherent in technology, how to harness aleatoric practise in a discipline that is often rigid and in exploring the interface between computer science (Logan is also a computer programmer) and sound. Originally recorded in 2014, "If I Can't Handle.." is the first step on the wander, a deliriously sun-burnt foray into abstract techno and a very personal take on an electronic music language that remains obscure to outsiders but here rendered a unique form of emotional communication.
While Logan's interests are powered by academic exploration, what's most striking about Helena Celle's approach to electronic music is how effortlessly she deconstructs it: the results are emotive without being explicit, raw and engaging, a true outsider music. The taking apart of norms can be heard on the squelched solo on "I'm Done With 666", governed by love of noise, the wave is eviscerated, smothering the track in a glorious disregard for convention. The crashing, ultra-compressed chords that flatten opener "Streaming Music for Biometrics" re-wire the listener to appreciate chance, to break the loop. Recorded exclusively using a faltering MC303, live in a room straight to consumer dictaphones, the breadth of texture and depth of ideas on these tracks is truly astonishing. "Miming Swinging Baseball Bat" manages to submerge a bass-line straight into the tape heads, grounding a celestial synth arpeggio.
Informed by limit yet sounding limitless, If I Can't Handle Me... evokes a personal space, a rewired take on electronic music, convention seen through the prism of anti-tradition. A lovingly careless disregard for electronic music dogma before Logan's next phase as Helena Celle. After several releases under various other pseudonyms (Rick Ross, Larks) Helena Celle sees Logan focusing her ideas into a coherent whole, questioning the hegemony of neo-liberal ideas and their intersection with capital, culture and social practises, how these ideas inform the music we make, the choices we buy. Indeed, while Logan's current practise is moving further into the field of an open-source musical programming language, developing a truly democratic music practise set adrift from capital, here Logan's intent is to make sense of the nonsense we take for granted.

"Random Soundtrack" is a kind of extended field recording or sonic Écriture automatique. It's another attempt to search the point where music and found sounds intersect. "Random Soundtrack" is a sort of sister album to last year's "Vanishing Land". Similarly to its predecessor, it is a series of interfusing recordings, compositions, scraps of field recordings, ordinary connectors. However, while "Vanishing Land" was the result of laborious shuffling a well-known material, "Random Soundtrack" is an album created in its own right, almost unconsciously. Its framework was created by some forgotten compositions and improvisations found in the memory of the recorder which coincidentally shaped a whole by themselves. Several elements that were added later only developed this sketch in a similar manner to the idea of André Breton. The album that was created this way is in fact more a synthesis of real images than a surreal vision. Quasifilm aesthetics and seemingly hypnotic sound hide a worrying thought about capturing the image of the last quiet days of the chaotic world.

The Mystic Mood Label and projects released a string of Deep and Liquid Drum and Bass tunes in 1996 and 1997. The label finished of with a project called the Journey, Part 1 & 2 were released but for various reasons Part 3 was never released.
Over the years two of the tracks have been sought after by LTJ Bukem collectors and fans as he had the
Exclusive dubplates in 1997 and featured the tracks on a lot of his mixes during that year including the Jazzier Groove (Skeleton Mix) which was featured in the LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad mix on Pete Tongs BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 24-03-1996.
The other track LTJ Bukem played ' Cosmic Fusion (Unreleased Original 97 Mix)' was recently released as part of the Basement Phil - Past Present and Future Album and also issued as a 12' Single, alongside the two other Mystic Mood Tracks, Brothers with Soul (aka Mystic Moods and LTJ Bukem) Music is so Special and 'Shak Out (Unreleased Vocal Mix) featuring Mad P from Top Buzz.

Next installment of Rex Ilusivi archive uncoverings - This time a live concert from SNP (srpsko narodno pozoriste / serbian national theatre) in Novi Sad, Serbia. Again it's a sublime masterclass in layering and mixing from the much revered King Of Illusion. TIP!
.
'To this day Rex Ilusivii remains an enigma of the global music culture, caught between late cold war electronic spheres, classic and the power of found sound. A musician from the Southeast European counterculture, whose art today seems to be the worldly intelligence of the modern age. Listening to the early music of Mitar Subotic sounds like catching the future even tough you know here sounds the past. How can somebody be light years ahead of most of his contemporaries in terms of individuality and uncompromising vision, creating such musical narratives with a feeling for outernational space' It must have been the signs of his time in Yugoslavia, that lead him to compositions in which two or more antithetic forces fight each other for the cause of an unheard harmony that melts industrial, sample art, Musique concr'te and ambient. His 'Koncert SNP' from 1983 demonstrates his ingeniousness to the core ' about 38 minutes of experiment and appeal that move playful between demonstrative frankness and seductive sensuality. You hear pulsating synthesizer bliss, widescreen sample art full of Bosch-like images and elusively drama catchiness that absorbs deep. So deep that words can't express their meaning. Only notes can spell out the score. Listening to his live recording several times without a break reveals also a story arc of literary transcendence. And as transcendence is something beyond speech, the music of Rex Ilusivii can't be narrowed down in phrases. Only one thing must be recommended: surrender to it and it will surrender to you.
Michael Leuffen in June 2016
Shadow Cartel draws on his love for the 1996/7 DnB sound' that could be heard at the awesome Blue Note Matalheadz nights of the mid 90s, Dark rolling drums with break edits, Power Bass drops and Techno Riffs all come together over a tearin bassline.
PT2 stays on the dark side of DnB with its rolling drums and power bass but introduces Techno soundscape strings.

Perhaps best known for his work with Andrew Weatherall. Originally operating as Weatherall´s engineer the pair went on to form The Asphodells. Fairplay is also a DJ and producer with solo records on Bird Scarer, Emotional Response, Astro Lab and more. Together with Scott Fraser he runs the adorable label Crimes of the Future. On this 7" he delivers a jacking and chugging A-side named The Cat Prowls Again. Sustained (and prowling) freak-outs guaranteed. B-side A Strange Servant is a bit more laid-back. But lovely cold and dark. Slow-motion psychedelic dance music for forward thinking.

Fokuz Recordings presents: Hateful Eighty. A various artists project featuring remixes and original tracks celebrating the 80th Fokuz Recordings release.
On the first CD we hear Ivy Lab flip Random Movement's ''Sleazy Bitch'' that was released early 2015 into an amen driven roller with hoover subs and techy clicks and stabs. Villem reworks Malaky's ''Falling'' crafting a beautifully restrained deep stepper with a bruiser of a bassline and intricately designed drum work. Grandmaster dBridge shows us minimal, stripped back vibes full of authenticity and soul on his remix for ''Meet You There'' by Facing Jinx feat. Peta Oneir. The original tracks come from Fokuz stalwarts Random Movement, Mindmapper & Silvahfonk, Macca & Loz Contreras, Kasper, Malaky, Satl, Silence Groove and Facing Jinx.
On CD 2 there's a whole bunch of earlier released stellar tracks to be foud including cuts by Need For Mirrors, Vandera, Mr Joseph, Bcee and remixes by Break, Calibre and Lenzman.

2LP 180gr gatefold) International Feel's Mark Barrott puts together Hostel La Torre compilation. The 15-track set, assembled with Pete Gooding, is inspired by Barrott's sunset residency at the Ibiza venue, with music from DJ Harvey, Domenique Dumont, Francis Bebey, Finis Africae, Penguin Cafe Orchestra and Barrott himself.
No matter the season or the nationality, every day on Ibiza, tribute is paid to Carthaginian deity Tanit at sunset. The warrior goddess of dance, fertility, creation and destruction lords over the Balearic island, as she has for centuries. Phoenicians, Assyrians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Arabs, and even the Norwegians have conquered the island since ancient times and every summer that history plays out, a similar array of nationalities descending on the island anew. Yet the soul of Ibiza remains intact. Every sunset still ushers in her arrival. That singular, sacred time on the island, taking on the feel of a pagan ritual, a shift in consciousness... the end of the beginning.
For those who make the pilgrimage looking for this transformative experience, it requires little more than venturing away from the Vegas-like lights of San Antonio towards such sublimity. Tucked away on the west coast of the island, Hostel La Torre beckons with its beauty and 'vista spectacular', encompassing the essence of that authentic Balearic spirit, as pioneered by Alfredo Fiorito at Amnesia and José Padilla at Café del Mar in the early 80s.
But this is not an exercise in nostalgia, rather a journey that seeks to reframe Balearic music in the present moment by embracing that 'anything goes' spirit via the avant-garde of Finis Africae's Managua', rare classics like the Arabic pop funk of Ahmed Fakroun's Nisyan' and Cameroonian poetry of Francis Bebey's Forest Nativity', with the proto Ambient House of Spooky's Orange Coloured Liquid' and modern productions like Dominique Dumont's Comme ça', Andras's Gold Coast' and Mark Barrott's Deep Water'. Balearic in its truest form is all these things and much more, it's cosmopolitan and countercultural, international yet wholly specific to a singular place on Earth.
It lights upon and encapsulates all the evocative beauty of Ibiza, the sounds themselves matching the colour palette of the island. The red dirt hills and the white sands, the pink blooms of almond trees and the electric blue of the water surrounding Es Vedrà, the magnetic magic, vivid colours and raw beauty of Ibiza is all here. At its root, Balearic music is always experiential. So even if you can't get to the terrace at La Torre for the 'vista spectacular', feel free to open up the gatefold, pour a chilled glass of Belondrade and journey back within.

FireScope Records is the new sub label of the legendary B12 Records. A label core to the UK techno scene with roots starting in the early 90's launched by Michael Golding and Steven Rutter. FireScope Records is here to exist in conjunction with B12 Records and with the same ethos, quality music, quality packaging, without compromise and a product that will stand the test of time. FireScope will diversify somewhat, not just deep meaningful techno, but also techno with vocals, real songs with real meaning.
The first release is by B12, UK techno at its finest. Established early 90's with a multitude of releases appearing on Warp Records UK, B12 Records, Soma Records, Delsin Records, ART
B12 became active again in 2015 with the Soma release Bokide 325' and the Delsin release Orbiting Souls' and this year on DeTuned Transient Life'
The EP entitled BrokenUnBroken: A moody down tempo risky start for a first release on a new label, however its enigmatic beauty, sounds, artwork and themes make it the only natural choice.
In Pieces' is enough to tear at the heart strings, it is an emotion loaded audio picture of sadness and despair. The producer conveys these feelings with a disturbingly natural ease and is an indication of a mental state he makes no secret of sharing. Sublime pads weave over subtle beats and crashes until joined by a hypnotic bassline.
Over !Hear!' is an old school vibe featuring a fetal doppler recording. Warm pads and bassline presents familiarity and rolls along conjuring up a safe place to be.
Battle Within' is a slow track there is no real drive forward but a multitude of entwined sounds and shapes that represent a whole piece. A piece constantly pulled out of shape. With a dual meaning originally inspired by the producers visit to a war torn city. An attempt to put into music almost from a child like perspective the mixed emotions and confusion that are felt when suffering.
There Is No Escape' is a Sci Fi dub style track. A driving break inspired beat and drooling bassline are joined by a constant abstract dialogue. Escape from where Escape from oneself
Finished in Full Colour sleeve and White/Green marble vinyl with exclusive artwork by Sarah Sparkes

Nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie.' That's how Belgian DJ producer Boogie Belgique (AKA Oswald Cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. Taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producer's forte. This is pleasingly evident on Volta, the latest Boogie Belgique album for the Cold Busted label. Jungle Law' gives a glimpse into Boogie Belgique's sonic palette. Tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. Soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. Album opener Go Slow' shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. It's a beautiful concoction, and Boogie Belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. Volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

* Debut album from Mr Joseph on Liquid V, released on a limited edition 6 track 12" Vinyl complete with full album on CD.
* As a custodian of the authentic Liquid D&B sound, Mr Joseph"s debut album strikes a delicate balance between funk-filled, soulful rollers and deep brooding basslines. The result is an album packed full of different musical textures which, combine seamlessly to create an immersive listening experience.
* Having grown up around the London Sound System culture of the 1980s Mr Joseph was soaking up musical influences from Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, and Reggae music. All these styles are evident throughout "Inner Haze", which is a melting pot simmering at 174bpm.
* An album that cuts through the dancefloor with ease, but which has enough subtlety and depth for home listening this is a project that will stand up to repeated listens, however don"t be fooled, this is not just a solo affair... Mr Joseph has also collaborated with a host of amazing vocalists and producers to create this debut album. Step forward Youngman, Edward Oberon, T.R.A.C., Deeizm, Kate White, Wednesday Amelia, Identified and Andy Skopes - it"s a real family affair.

Over The Mountains is Segue's second album on Silent Season, a follow up to Pacifica which was released to much praise in 2013. Over The Mountains continues the course in true Segue fashion with an album full of dubbed out atmospheric grooves and deep organic structures. The sound is consumed by nature—immense, enveloping nature in Jordan Sauer's never-ending quest to capture the sublime. The record feels like a nostalgic dream swirling in melodies and buzzing with nature sounds. Over The Mountains is honourably another awe-inspiring album of lush landscapes by this Canadian artist.

'Passage' is the second collaborative album from London-based synth-wizard Ulrich Schnauss and Danish producer Jonas Munk. 11 tracks of breezy, blissed-out electronica and colourful ambient. As the album title denotes, there's a sense of movement in the music these two producers create together: a Schnauss & Munk composition starts one place and ends up someplace very different - something that can only rarely be said about electronic music, which traditionally has focused it's energy on texture rather than composition. Sometimes their vivid, expansive soundscapes feels like the sonic equivalent of gliding towards the horizon through a panoramic landscape on a train. One's perspective changes slightly when in motion from one place to another - continously Approaching new things and leaving others behind. There's a prismatic, multi-dimensional quality to these 11 tracks, likely stemming from the fact that these two producers each have worked with a wide range of styles and musicians throughout their 15+ year careers: Ulrich cut his teeth as a drum and bass producer in Berlin, before releasing a string of highly influential neo-shoegazy records
on labels such as Domino and City Centre Offices. Since moving to London in 2006 he's been a member of bands such as Engineers and Longview and remixed artists ranging from Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys to Mojave 3, and since 2013 he's been a member of legendary band Tangerine Dream. While Jonas Munk initially became known to the post-rock and electronica communities via his Manual albums on Morr Music, he's also had his hands in psychedelic rock (he's a noted producer in the European psych scene) as well as film soundtracks and experimental minimalism. Both Ulrich and Jonas, however, have the skills of seasoned producers to weave the multitude of influences together in a well-defined sonic aesthetic. The result is a compelling set of melodic electronic music that echoes the past, yet feels fresh.

CW/A are producers Thomas Feriero and Francesco Leali, known for their releases and remixes on Parachute, R&S, Decca and Vakant, their work as Avatism, Clockwork, Opus 3000 and House ov Leaves, crushing live shows around the globe and running Parachute alongside DJ Tennis since 2013.
With 'Ringleader' the duo return with their first original productions since their debut full length, last year's critically acclaimed 'Words Unspoken, Acts Undone.'
Inspired by global trends towards Orwellian mass surveillance and cyber espionage, 'Ringleader' aims to be an audible interpretation of big data, ubiquitous connections and the acceptance of corporate and government spying. Grim and mechanical by nature, the six tracks - named after leaked codenames of government tools used to watch on citizens - work as a soundtrack to the destruction of privacy: a cold reflection on this aspect of society and it's implications.

Jammz came up studying grime, and in 2016 finds himself at the forefront of it. Born and bred in East London, Jammz started to make a name for himself on London's radio circuit in 2014 and 2015, appearing regularly on Rinse FM, Radar Radio, NTS, Mode FM and BBC 1xtra and teaming up with both established DJs like Slimzee, Spooky, Bok Bok and Spyro and newcomers like Moleskin. His Hit Then Run EP became a cult classic: the title track was played regularly on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Noisey's #3 grime track of 2015, and the remix was Sian Anderson's #1 remix of the week six weeks on the spin. Subsequent singles 'Final Warning' and 'London Living' further established Jammz as one of grime's best new hit-makers, while his live reputation is also quickly on the rise: he's played Glastonbury, Eskimo Dance, Outlook, Night Slugs and Bestival, has headlined FWD>> and in March 2016 was the support act on Kano's UK tour. Jammz has been supported heavily by Fader, Noisey, FACT, GQ, Mixmag, SBTV, MTV and more, and featured on the front cover of the Observer Music's British MCs special. Following an instrumental 12' which sold out in four days, Warrior is the second EP on Jammz's I Am Grime label. Intense and frustrated, it encapsulates life in London in 2016 and marks Jammz's most complete and considered release to date. All tracks are also produced by Jammz, apart from 'What's Man Saying', produced by grime legend Ironsoul and featuring a guest verse by P Money.

This is the stunning debut album from Laraaji. 'Celestial Vibration' was originally released in 1978 under the name Edward Larry Gordon, and then first issued by Soul Jazz Records/Universal Sound in 2010. Soul Jazz Records are now issuing this hypnotic piece newly re-mastered album once again in a very limited vinyl edition of 1000 and new CD as a full Laraaji
release. 'Celestial Vibration' is a cosmic journey sounding unlike anything else when it was first released in 1978.
Laraaji's album was first issued in New York as a private-pressing record with only very minimal distribution. His distinctive use of the harp-like open-stringed zither and kalimba creates a hypnotic trance like musical landscape. Laraaji first came to fame in the 1980s as a worldwide ambient artist working with Brian Eno on EG Records. At this time Laraaji worked with a wide range of
experimental musicians - Jon Hassell, Harold Budd, Michael Brook, Bill Nelson, Roger Eno, Nana Vasconcelos and Bill Laswell. Since Soul Jazz Records/Universal Sound first released 'Celestial Vibration' seven years ago (now long deleted), Laraaji's career has had a renaissance, releasing a string of new albums including a fascinating collaboration with Blues Control for the FRKYWS label, as well as reissues of earlier albums including a three-album cassette only release last year.
Today Gordon continues his unique musical and spiritual path - performing his music mainly for meditation at yoga global retreats. He runs his own 'Therapeutic Laughter Workshop' where he coaches people in the mindful use of laughing for its health benefits. The album is issued as a limited-edition deluxe vinyl and CD edition (previously released as Edward Larry Gordon 'Celestial Vibration').

After releasing their own debut record in 2014 the Hamburg based group Sky Walking formed by Peter Kersten, Christian Naujoks and Richard von der Schulenburg now celebrates the launch of their self-titled label. By bringing together an international line-up of artists mostly associated with the new and experimental music scenes in cities like Hamburg, Berlin and New York Sky Walking not only establishes a link between different locations and their specific (local) scenes - with the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg somehow functioning as a Bermuda triangle - but also between different generations of artists from these scenes.
By choosing Sergei Tcherepnin's "Queer 1" as the first track on 41'36'', as the record is simply called, indicating the length of the album in John Cage style, the compilation not just draws on the legacy of early modular synthesizers (his uncle invented the "Serge"), but also - in a manifesto like way - points out the hybrid and genre-bending approach many of the artists on this record share. The ten tracks on the record are characterized by an openness towards improvisation and collaboration as well as an experimental attitude towards technology. The outcome is sometimes weird and nerdy, sometimes playful and humorous - never taking either the music categories "new" or "experimental" too seriously.
Konrad Sprenger for example, featured with the track "Distain", invented a robotic multi-channel electric guitar, which uses the strings as frequency generators. It is tuned and set into motion by various electronically controlled mechanical movements. An even more performative quality has the Black Metal influenced duo Misanthrope CA, whose members Robert Kulisek and David Lieske prefer to play their dark and drony ambient tracks in neoprene suits. Jazz influences can be heard both in the fully improvised, cartoon-like piece by Sky Walking themselves and the filmic quality of Philipp Sollman's and John Gürtler's collaboration in "Gegen die Zeit". While these two tracks were produced in the studio, Eve Essex and Dan Fox as well as Nowerk (F#X and Christian Naujoks) work with different means of live-recording in their collaborative projects. Rather mysterious appearances are the ones by Keller G and Gebrochene Beine. Whereas the latter mixes broken beats with a saxophone going wild, the first offers a dark and atmospheric, slightly uncanny soundscape. In-between longtime resident at Golden Pudel Club Nika Son takes us on a tense-ridden sonic journey with her track "Drissk", purposefully paying tribute to the grand dames of the synthesizer.
The cover is another hard-to-categorize element of this new release featuring a sketch of an alien-like two part cyber-ceramic sculpture including motion-, light-, audio- and temperature-responsive sensors by artist duo Amy Lien and Enzo Camacho. It thereby echoes the blurred boundaries between the auditive and the visual, for a perspective shared by most of the artists represented on Sky Walking, as well as their roots in the 1960s and the graphic scores that since then have become an art form in its own right.

When Tresor founder Dimitri Hegemann stumbled into a former bank vault in East Berlin on March 13th 1991, he had little idea that the space he had unlocked would fast become one of Berlin's most influential and enduring techno clubs. "We didn't know what would happen 10 months later," he says. "We signed a lease for a year. Which eventually got renewed for another three months, and another three months.."
As Tresor celebrates its 25th anniversary with this work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno - economic neglect and broken industry - were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin, where techno found new, vigorous expression.
Today, though the boom and bust of globalised capitalism has filled the void that followed the Berlin Wall, and techno has become a worldwide industry, we face a new political chapter, one defined by populism, nationalism and mistrust. Contemporary creatives should take inspiration from Tresor's story, an extraordinary experiment born from improvisation, resourcefulness and social neglect that uplifted the spirits of inner city communities for a quarter-century.
This record marks the spirit of those 25 years of creativity, a paean to the psychedelic music of Dimitri's youth. From the signature magnetic soundscapes of Vainqueur to the dark textures of upcoming Beijing producer Shao; from Jon Hassell's slow epicurean volutes, to the ritual auras of Marcelus and Claudia Anderson's contributions; from the dub-infused pioneering programming of Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald, to Mønic's enthralling cadences, it represents some of the old and new names that continually epitomise Tresor's perennial spirit of ingenuity. "We were space pioneers," says Dimitri.
The East Berlin of 1991 may have disappeared to gentrification, with Tresor's lonely vanguard joined by an army of venues catering to an international array of clubbers benefiting from low cost travel, many of whom settle in the city for good. Berlin is Europe's economic engine, headquarters to global industry and sole traders alike, where Polish, Kurdish and English are as likely to be spoken as German. That range of influences is felt in all areas of life, not least in the city's music.
"Without Tresor, Berlin would not be what it is today," concludes Dimitri. "Even though it sounds a bit pretentious, it is true. Tresor was the prototype for an extraordinary club. It was only possible as a combination of the right time, the right place, the right content and determined people."

Original music of the "Slow Futur" show by Elsa Guérin and Martin Palisse, played and composed by Zombie Zombie (Cosmic Neman, Etienne Jaumet, Dr Schonberg), here presented separately from the show.
Slow Futur features two jugglers (Elsa Guérin and Martin Palisse) on a treadmill (8 x 2m) which carries them along a neon light installation which delimits the choreographic space as a kind of space-time tunnel: "the hyperspace". Their minimalist juggling practice - with 3 white balls each - plays with opposite movements like acceleration/immobility, synchronization/progressive transformation, and thus evokes a way of making the body face the inexorable passing of time. The music of Zombie Zombie, repetitive and floating, as a vector of the choreographic mechanic, mixes analog electronic sounds and acoustic rhythms that rise in intensity in order to bring the two jugglers into a frantic and hypnotic rush, whereas the treadmill submits their bodies to a movement independent of their will, so becoming an infernal machine. Between abstraction and representation of reality, Slow Futur questions the relationships between human beings, where the individualism caused by the modern world leads to loneliness, as the human condition is reduced to a simple machine which robotic movements are devoid of emotion. Elsa Guérin and Martin Palisse are not only renewing the image of today's circus but also continuing their research on the choreographic, dramatic and poetic potential of juggling.

Blackest Ever Black presents To Make A Fool Ask, And You Are The First, the latest - and, for us, greatest - full-length entry in Ashtray Navigations' uniquely important, uniquely sprawling - possibly sentient and self-multiplying - discography. It picks up where the nerve-damaged exotica of 2015's A Shimmering Replica left off...acerbic surf' guitar and synthetic salt-breeze fit for the Tropic of Yorkshire. Instant immersion in a potent, pungent psychedelia that feels equal parts cosmic and aquatic. What Todd wrenches out of his instrument these days is a language unto itself (perhaps it always was)... a helical, ecstatic, grieving howl...a (super)natural efflorescence, beyond earthly description or transcription...ur-rock and post-everything. But equal emphasis is given here to pulsating machine rhythms and lush keyboard textures, with killer contributions from longtime fellow traveller Mel O'Dubhshlaine. There were pre-echoes of all this in the recent(ish) Fluctuants and Aero Infinite: but To Make A Fool feels like the culmination, or the fullest expression, of something which was only glimpsed in those earlier works. The side-long 'Spray Two' - gently eddying string-pads gradually slashed to all f***k with fraught piano improvisations - is a masterpiece in its own right. At its delirious peak, the whole thing boils over into brooding, arpeggiated noir-techno - Michael Mann's steadicam roaming Leeds' B-roads, some kind of tangerine nightmare - before finally cooling into a bleary starfield of pure and sumptuous hypno-tone. This LP is a trip, in the most skull-splitting, soul-crinkling sense of the word, but it soothes and heals as well. A circular and transformative journey to the other side of the underneath and a landmark recording from one of the most adept and visionary nodes in Britain's freakout underground.

Caves was created in the aftermath of a devastating set by DJ Stingray, and sounds like it: storming but funky, infused with the spirit of classic Detroit techno. Spacetown marries Arpanet and John Carpenter, with a saturnine melody which sticks in the mind.
Flip it for a deadly Caves remix by man-of-the-year Convextion, inimitably sci-fi but banging, and the elemental, ambient accomplishment of The Strips, consolidating the promise on show throughout.

Listeners familiar with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's previous album Euclid (an album that prompted Dazed to call her "...one of the most pioneering musicians in the world.") will no doubt notice her heavier use of vocals on her new album EARS. On all but one song, her gently ecstatic swells of vocals emerge to soar over a dense jungle of synths and woodwinds. After initially composing on a Buchla analog synth, she wrote arrangements for a woodwind quintet, added vocals, and further refined the pieces with granular synthesis techniques she developed in her sound design work (she contributed sound design to Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" video, and handled sound design and original compositions for Brasilia co-written by and starring Reggie Watts).
Kinetic arpeggios of synths pulse, often buoying her graceful vocal mantras, while woodwinds breathe and flutter, emulating the wildlife Smith observed while growing up on the West Coast (she even studied recordings of slowed down bird calls prior to composing these pieces). Though some of her gestures echo the musical tropes used by early minimalist composers, the world she creates on EARS is uniquely hypnotic and full of life, not unlike Miyzaki's film Nausicaä, which she cites as an inspiration.
EARS is a masterful articulation of Smith's vision, which she achieved in part by spending time preparing her mind prior to composing the album.

This one needs no introduction. Trends & Boylan wrote an anthem with Norman Bates. Easily the biggest Grime instrumental this year, Norman Bates has been played and rewound time and time again at all of the years biggest shows. Massive radio support on 1Xtra, Radio One and Rinse FM, this is the tune that everyone has been after. On the flip we have individual tunes from the two producers. Boylan goes on an Orchestral workout with clarinets and strings providing the catchy riffs alongside classic square waves on Shimmy, another heavyweight Boylan track. Trends uses his signature robotic bass sounds matched with a dark moody choir on Octopus, a permanent freature in Slimzees sets this year.

It seems somehow fitting that Frank Dommert's first solo album, Kiefermusik, was first released in 1990, just a moment after the new decade had ticked over. During the late 1980s, Dommert had been quietly working away at his own art in Cologne, while developing connections with other sub-rosa operatives: in 1987, he took part in a collaborative single with Christoph Heemann and Achim P Li Khan's outfit, Hirsch Nicht Aus Sofa (H.N.A.S.), Hunsrück', he was also part of H.N.A.S. for their side of Face To Face Vol. 2, a split LP with Vox Populi. Dommert was also releasing cassettes in limited editions on his Entenpfuhl imprint, including an early collaboration with Marcus Schmickler, early tapes by PFN and C-Schulz, along with a number of solo cassettes and chapbooks.
Kiefermusik saw in the new decade by repurposing and recontextualising material from one of those cassettes, Early Loops & Tapes, which consisted of material recorded between 1984 and 1987. Discussing the album in 2015, Dommert confided that he heavily processed these recordings in the studio, with the open studio window integrated. The record is pretty much a (LSD) trip, intentional and a large portion unconscious.' It's certainly full of hallucinatory visions, sidereal moments where loops knock you off-kilter and waves of surrealist and Art Brut noise tactics stop you in your tracks. It's simultaneously a rough-as-guts album of collapsing architectures and an intelligent, sensitively sculpted masterpiece of editing, with Dommert winding a psychedelic spool around loops that could spin out into eternity.
Kiefermusik may well have had more impact in international tape- and record-trading circles than in Dommert's hometown. Dommert had already made connections with fellow travellers like ADN, RRR, Recommended and Odd Size, and the album slowly found its way around the world, connecting with like-minded listeners who were on the look-out for new voices in the heterogeneous, nebulous field of underground, low-tech avant-garde.
Yet Kiefermusik, along with the electro-acoustic improvisation collective of Kontakta (featuring Dommert alongside C-Schulz, Georg Odijk, Hajsch, Marcus Schmickler and Monika Westphal), the fantastic series of LPs released on Quiet Artworks (PFN, Hajsch, Ios Smolders), and the strange electro satellites from labels like Erfolg (C-Schulz, Marcus Schmickler), seemed somehow to set things up for the next wave to come through, the brilliant explosion of electronic music to come out of Cologne in the mid-late 1990s. And beyond all that, even, Kiefermusik is still a fantastically strange, beautiful, and compelling album, a good twenty-six years later. Don't miss it this time around.

Japanese legend Keiji Haino meets two of Belgium's most active and valued musicians: Jozef Dumoulin- keyboards (Lilly Joel) and Teun Verbruggen - drums (Othin Spake).
'The Miracles Of Only One Thing' is a deep and intense testimony of this meeting. Keiji Haino - without any doubt one of the most important musicians from the Japanese underground scene, is at his best !
Teun Verbruggen (drums & electronics) and Jozef Dumoulin(keyboards & electronics) did a 3-week tour in Japan in Sept 2015 playing concerts in duo, but also solo and with local musicians. One of those musicians was hero Keiji Haino, whose work has included rock, free improvisation, noise, percussion, psychedelic music, minimalism and drones. Besides his legendary bands Fushitsusha and Lost Aaraaff, he has worked with artists and bands like Boris, The Melvins, Jim O'Rourke, Oren Ambarchi, Peter Brötzmann and Steve Noble.
As for Dumoulin and Verbruggen, they are both known for their always refreshing and groundbreaking work that breaks up the barriers between free improvisation, electro, jazz and more. Jozef Dumoulin is part of the duo Lilly Joel appearing recently on Sub Rosa (SR416).
The three teamed up for a studio recording and a recorded live-show. Out of all the material, they distilled an album that reflects both the excitement of the new bond as well as the deep and vast sonic landscapes that their joined forces laid bare.

* 'Corners' is the return to Horizons Music and the return to drum & bass in its dancefloor form for the genius that is Naibu. After a rather leftfield 170 bpm album last year, titled 'Case Study' and released on Scientific Records, this is a hugely anticipated release.
* It's a fusion of most of Naibu's influences, old and new, from all corners of the dnb spectrum, in a contemporary way. You'll hear some Metalheadz in tracks like 'Burning' and 'Traces', some Exit in 'The Way You Turn' and 'Les Soirées', some Soul:R in 'Heartgold', some Calibre in 'No Return', some Pieter K and Certificate 18 in 'Corners'. A workout of sound that's weighty, musically modern, and of apparent simplicity, best demonstrated in tracks like 'The Way You Turn' and 'Heartgold', which really represent the sound Naibu likes to push right now.
* As far as production is concerned, again, it's a handcrafted, homemade affair. It's all sample-free (to the exception of the vocal loop in 'Les Soirées') and everything's been written, performed, recorded, designed and edited at home.
* 'Burning' features guitarist Jean Gros, who provided Naibu with some very nice atmospheric electric guitars and folk guitar. This track is a tribute to late 90s Rufige Kru, with epic 2 mins intro, reminiscent of 'Beach Drifta', dropping into some dancefloor mayhem.
* In the same fashion 'Traces' was a direct Metalheadz influence, mixed with a touch of FKA Twigs type flavours.
* Apart from these two tracks, everything else goes a little bit deeper and really aims at carrying a solid groove, trying to keep the tracks to their bare minimum, essential elements. We hope this is music you can lock into and lose yourself to.

UK electronic & ambient experimentalist Specimens presents his debut album 'Sculptures'. Featuring artwork by the award winning Australian artist Kieran Ingram and mastered by Room 40 label boss and cornerstone of the Drone/Ambient music world Lawrence English. 'Sculptures' is a delicately and painstaking put together debut album, it follows up from releases on A Giant Fern, Amsterdam based Shimmering Moods Records & the collaborative Specimens x Daniel Wiesmayr release 'Water & Concrete' on London's Tenderly Surrender, the title track of which soundtracked a short from film maker & director Sophie Littman & went on to get over 20,000 views in it's Nowness premiere.
Wearing his influences on his sleeve & with a nod to past and present noise pioneers such as Throbbing Gristle, Leyland Kirby, K.Leimer and Ben Frost, the record pans between a dream-like fog on the tracks "Cerulean Forest' & French Morning' and cold industrial chops on A Marble Hallway'.
Specimens said of this release I didn't want to make a record intentionally difficult to listen to, but I wanted uncomfortable moments, It was important for me to try and make the record sound as human as possible and in some places distinclty live"The lighter more gentle moments hold together the records more jagged edges, occasionally leaning towards a more classical feel, in a way the likes of William Basinski & Sean McCann display with regular expertise, this is best illustrated in the tracks Piano Loops' & VI.VI.MMXV'. Samples of Sudanese wrestling & Tuvan Throat Singing give the record the human' feel Specimens describes and adds a charm which prevents the record from ever feeling too slick.

Emotional Response returns to the music of the Diskant label to look more closely at a band of forefathers for the resurgent Dusseldorf music scene, The Durian Brothers. A collaboration between artists Florian Meyer, Marc Matter and Stefan Schwander has seen a trilogy of EPs on their own Diskant label - itself initially created as a means to release the band's music - a split release (with Konono Nº1) on Fat Cat, a live cassette, last years mini-LP on Kontra Musik and the most recent split with High Wolf. Although often based in different cities across the Continent, recording is centered around Dusseldorf's Salon des Amateurs. While some tracks were directly recorded there, all of them were developed and rehearsed at the groundbreaking arts/bar/club space. The distinctive polyrhythms come from modified turntables - without using records - along with effects and sequencing, thereby creating a unique, experimental, dense and warm dance music - oft described a wooden trance muzik. Ausgewahlte Durian Stucke ('Selected Durian Pieces') takes the music from the early EPs that did not feature on the Diskanted (ERS022) album and presents them as one stand-alone. As the solo projects of Don't DJ and Harmonious Thelonious become more distinct and known, what the future holds for the Brother's collaborations is uncertain, but together their music has little to compare.

This year sees Total Science celebrate the 20th birthday of their CIA Records label. Known as a breeding ground for new and exciting producers, as well as a platform for bonafide legends of the scene to release their tracks, two decades down the line, the label continues to consistently release great music. To help celebrate this impressive landmark, Total Science will release the CIA 20' LP this summer.
A sampler drops first on 3rd June announcing the project in style. Three killer tracks come on vinyl, with a digital bonus wrapping up the package.
Q Project's Champion Sound' was one of the most important and iconic tracks of the early 90's rave scene. The track's hook is instantly recognisable and it's bassline consistently takes dancefloors apart. For the sampler it's given a 2016 update by one of Drum & Bass' most technically gifted and astute producers, DLR. He's managed to maintain the essence of the track, while giving it a serious update. Since it's first airing on BBC Radio 1, the remix has taken the scene by storm and will be heard reverberating in clubs worldwide for months to come.
Calibre graces the label once again, with another trademark slice of musical goodness.Under Bars' is classic Calibre - rolling, harmonic, understated gracefulness, it's a track that shows exactly why he is one of the most respected producers in contemporary Drum & Bass.
Label owners Total Science also step up to the plate with Respect Due'. It showcases the trademark style the guys are so well known for, classic but tightly produced breaks, ravey bleeps and vocals, and yet another club and sound system punishing bassline.

Deluxe LP w 180g, Reverse Board Sleeve, MP3 Download - HOLOVR is Jimmy Billingham who also records under the alias's Tidal, Venn Rain, Journey of Mind & Holographic Mind - He has released music on Firecracker Records, Opal Tapes and Hooker Vision as well as his own Indole Records Release Information Anterior Space may strike some listeners of a certain age as an echo of the gilded age of "armchair techno" exemplified by Warp Records' Artificial Intelligence comps. There's a similar convergence of the cerebral and the blissful in the four epic compositions HOLOVR (aka Jimmy Billingham) finesses from his analog and digital synths as that found on those early-'90s pieces by Black Dog, B12, and others. Discussing the creation of Anterior Space, which is the first HOLOVR release to feature no beats, Billingham reveals, "Dropping drums gave me a bit more freedom in terms of tempo and rhythm, and it was actually really liberating. Having fewer elements in a track also meant it was possible to record live, which is my preferred way of working, as you can capture an actual snapshot of time and a natural, in-the-moment negotiation of the different elements of a track. I'd know a track was ready if I could sit there and listen to it looping round for long periods of time and really get lost in it, and then I'd try and capture a nice section of that in the space of 10 minutes or whatever." You can hear this on Anterior Space's opening 11-minute track, "Into Light." Its subtle gradations of warped tones and implied rhythms teem with hyperactive elegance. The titular light glints off of several jeweled facets, like a disco ball made out of diamonds. The slow, mobile-like rotation of synth baubles over a foundation of yearning, icy drones on "Apparent Motion" creates the illusion of a shimmering stasis, but there's actually a great deal happening here. .

Justin Martin looks to the skies on Hello Clouds, his second full length album on Dirtybird. Building on the formidable foundation he established with 2012's Ghettos & Gardens, Justin invites listeners on a high-flying journey through a rich musical landscape. One of the label's most beloved characters, Martin lets his effervescent personality shine through on these 13 tracks along with an unexpected range of emotions.
From the first strings of album opener "Dive In," Justin effortlessly establishes an otherworldly mood. Are we deep beneath the ocean's surface, or squinting at bright sunlight while 30,000 feet in the air It ultimately doesn't matter, we just need to hear more. Justin delivers with a set of obsessively crafted tunes for clubs and headphones alike. For example, on title track "Hello Clouds," Justin mixes the ethereal vocals of rising star FEMME with sub-rattling lows and a chorus of singing 303s.
This is only one of many exciting collaborators on the album. "I reached out to specific artists who currently inspire me," Martin explains. "Artists I think the world needs to hear more of." This impressive group of collaborators include FEMME, Charlotte OC, Lena Cullen, Kill Frenzy, Will Clarke, Ardalan, and even his brother Christian. These features introduce a veritable cast of supporting characters, adding additional stories and sounds to the ones Justin is already sharing.
Hello Clouds is an impressive sophomore outing a complete work that invites the listener to float above walls, ceiling,s and any other restraints they might encounter. So lay back, look skyward, and experience the breathtaking scope of Justin's imagination.

Burgeoning club label Nervous Horizon follow up label boss TSVI's recent 'Sacred Drums' EP with a new EP from Houndstooth, AUS and R&S signee, Second Storey.
'Spin Cycle', comprised of three tracks written in the same warehouse space Storey shared with TSVI and fellow NH boss, Wallwork, earlier this year, details a micro-world of new ideas that Storey manifests within a sprawling, hyper-specific web of weird and wonderful bass abstraction. It's not often you go to a viewing and your potential house-mate actively wants you to make noise with no restrictions', he says reflecting on first meeting TSVI while looking for a new place to live in London.
Energised by this new sense of creative freedom and boosted by a support network pro-vided by the extended NH crew ( Gugli (TSVI) and Tommy (Wallwork) were buzzing off these tracks when I played them'), Storey is at the top of his game across the EP.
From the fuzzy, looping programming on the title-track, written as if in a 'spin cycle', to the swinging, crunchy pressure on 'Critters' and the muffled, industrial-tech tones to 'Sludge 3D', 'Spin Cycle' plays right into the NH ethos — making music that sounds like nothing you've heard before.

SICKNOTE is the alias for Lewis Joyce's solo work as a DJ, producer and recording artist.
Stepping outside of the shadows of the G.H.O.S.T collective for his first release on Skeleton Recordings.
Sicknote also has on going collaborations with Dissect, Jay Bionic and Horrific Recordings.
Dedicated to the original art form, he's a vinyl and dubplate collector with the well-trained ears of an experienced live sound engineer.
His sound is tough, uncompromising and true to the source - drums upfront and bass down low!
You can catch Lewis with his regular Tuesday night slot on Rude FM as well as numerous appearances playing at gigs in and around London.
SCM - Beautiful sounding intro with a superb breakdown, dropping into some serious beats & bass before
switching up into a classic Amen layered with some heavy distorted effects.
Electric High - Hard stepping breakbeats wrapped around a nasty bass stab! The atmosphere from the offset puts you instantly in the zone.
Hitchcock - With an intro sounding like an old black & white thriller it was named Hitchcock for that very reason. An original composition that keeps you on the edge of your seat. A throwback to the edgy and experimental days of the 1970's. Utter filth!

FDX006 takes us on a version excursion, Threshold takes us on an unforgettable journey through Drum and Bass via Trench Town Jamaica. This man's musical heritage and reggae dub collection have had a clear impact on these four crucial cuts. From working with Breakage over the last 10 years on Reinforced and Digital Soundboy, to Special Branch on Ray Keith's Penny Black, to his own Dub Clinique label and previous releases on FDX skilled craftsman Threshold brings some depth charge business and we felt it only right to give the EP a fitting dub influenced, picture disc, shrink wrapped presentation.
SCANDAL - Super low subs and rolling breaks twisted up in inimitable Threshold style are seasoned with choice vocal samples and dub blips to cause a rumpus dedicated to all chatty mouth people....
FUK RI - No holds barred heavyweight amen choppage to kill all the fuk ri out there. People is sick and tired of hearing bumbaclart get down shit seen....
EASE OFF - What make it so ruff Threshold's steaming amen and Gregory and Dennis in a combination style probably has something to do with it!
MI RARSE - The final chapter of the EP features an angry patois vocal punctuating a rolling break, both of which have had a serious dose of echo chamber thrown at them, a riddim to clean ya pussyclart bathroom too...

"Setting Forth" is the first release from parisian label and crew, Exploration Music. The Exploration crew has been very active promoting parties, festivals and label showcases for the past 6 years and has made its mark on the blooming Paris electronic music scene inviting artists and labels such as Sigha, Shifted, AVN//OCS, Trevino, Lucy, Truncate, Skudge, dBridge, Exit Records, Goldie, Youngsta, Truss, Conforce, Dement3d Records, Moresounds, Vakula, Henning Baer or Akkord ... some of which for their very first time in France. The Exploration parties have always been about diversity of styles and genres but also about discovering new, upcoming artists and supporting the local scene. The crew is also involved in many local
collaborative projects such as Rinse France radio or 75021, always aiming to push niche electronic music to a wider audience. The first release on the imprint is a double vinyl album featuring four artists from the crew. It is an album in the sense that the music has been carefully selected into a seemless 8 tracks and 40 minute journey. It is not a randomly tracklisted compilation of tunes but more a statement of what the label will be : an imprint focused on providing strong vibes and emotions, transcending genres and bpms, in the tradition of such labels as Warp, Ninja Tune, Stones Throw, Brainfeeder, Hyperdub or Houndstooth ... From ambient to bass music, going through techno, dub or hip hop, no boundaries have been set and it will be up to the artists from the collective to define the sound of the label as time progresses. The album itself tells the story of the up and downs of setting up new projects, preparing new aventures. From the positive and uplifting bass music number "Envol" and instrumental hip hop "Horizon" to the more reflective ambient/dub techno tracks "Computerised Genesis" and "Area Memento", the first vinyl evokes the early hopes and dreams that arise with a new idea. The second disc is darker, hesitation and doubt start to take over in the "In Between" interlude and "The Tube" dubstep track. And finally doubt turns to despair in the intricate 170 bpm "Clockwork Escape" reminiscent of Photek's early drumwork and dark atmospheres. But this story has a happy ending which is
here provided by the heavy but positive instrumental hip hop/trap beat "Frantic", summarizing all the lessons learned, putting all doubts at rest, and confidently setting forth into the unknown.
As it is shown on the cover artwork, drawn by french artist Olivier Blanchin, and as it can be heard in the music, all is now set for
Exploration Music to finally become a label.

Brighton's 140 vinyl specialists Well Rounded Dubs return again with 2 fresh wax debuts guaranteed to detonate your dance.
A: First up NUMBer delivers 'æther' which has been causing a stir off dubplate for a few months now. From the ting-a-ling intro we drop straight into a cheeky walking sub-bassline that'll bring joy to the faces of even the most hardened skankin' soldiers. This gets a proper energy lift from added tribal hand percussion sitting perfectly in the mix. The 2nd drop reveals extra descending bass plus some extra space and nails it. Check the clip for proof.
AA: Pon the flip SIBLA steps up with 'Trial'. Freshly moulded hi-hats lead us through the mysterious intro until (after a brief appearance in a rowdy courtroom) we embark on a dark cavernous ride constructed from prison door heavy drums and sick growling bass. As the bottom end switches to warm subs the top end trippy touches and treatments reveal an unearthly edge to this sneaky winner.
Mixed down hot for maximum satisfaction.
Watch out for future drops from these talented producers!!!

Ecstatic present a companion piece to their retrospective of Paper Eyes material from Gavin Russom with this limited tape featuring two live shows from 96/97 and a fake radio show also
from '97 with a live studio appearance in which he interviews himself...
Previously restricted to a series of self-released tapes, Gavin Russom's early Paper Eyes project was given a much-needed reappraisal by Ecstatic who dropped the warped delights of Source
Cognitive Drive - Transmissions 1996-1998 back in May. Providing an intriguing snapshot of Russom's state of mind in the months following his arrival in NYC from Providence, the 16-track
Source Cognitive Drive channelled a harsh and abrasive spirit that was comparable to Container, Wolf Eyes and Carlos Giffoni.
In contrast to the previous Paper Eyes record on Ecstatic, this cassette presents the project in a different light. Two uncredited performances recorded sometime between 1996 and 1997 sit on
the B side, the gritty quality of the recording only enhancing the shredding nature of Russom's sets! Complementing these, Ecstatic have scored a fake radio show from '97 in which Russom spoofs it up as Jonny Stardust, interviewing himself before delivering another scorching Paper Eyes meltdown.

* 'The Fuselage EP' is by Idris, the alternate persona of Mosam Howieson.
* The two-sided EP is dark but inviting and perfect for post-midnight exploration.
* Dark realities and crossings of bass music and techno are explored in Idris work, with the 'Fuselage EP' strong percussive influences from drum and bass.
* 'Those Who Can't' cuts relentless machinery and low fi kicks against, slick snares, evoking images of post-industrial war fare - propeller engines against black dust clouds and grey smog.
* 'Driftwood' also draws on broken beat influence, however its softer, hypnotic kicks are easy to surrender to.

* Following last year's dangerously good 'Depatterning' LP, Ipman returns to Tectonic to deliver his latest instalment in bass-driven technoid mutations.* 'Constrict' jumps straight into the deep end at 140bpm, diving head first into pulsing waves of warping, dynamic synth layers; swimming back up to the surface for air. As the intro build peaks, the track effortlessly strikes when the bass drops in, charging the techno synth interplay with a sort of 3/4-step type rhythm shaping the movements. Impeccable dance floor music that sits in an undefined zone between the worlds of techno, dubstep and somewhere yet defined.* Flip then for 'Running Man', which sees a sharp drop in tempo, bringing the speed down to 120bpm but maintaining the energetic build of Constrict. Starting from an almost empty space, 'Running Man' takes an upward momentum, building and layering percussion and sonic textures as the heat of the chase takes full effect. Dark and deadly, this is one for fans of sci-fi sonics and dread vibrations.

Roman noise omnivore Toni Cutrone aka Mai Mai Mai names his poisonous, punishing electronic miasmas after characters of the Greek alphabet, beginning with Theta in 2013 and followed by Delta in 2014. Phi is the third and final installment in his Mediterranean trilogy, pushing the project deeper into a vivid interzone of digital synthesis and scorched ritual.
The album opens with a searing collaboration with avant-folk instrumentalist Luca Venitucca, locked into a lofty duel of distorted drones, before pivoting to a throbbing oblivion of jackhammer bass, seething feedback, and combat samples. Later passages ooze through industrial spoken word, technoid voodoo hallucination, seasick prayer loops, and nightmare exotica, assisted in places by Italian experimental percussion legend Lino Capra Vaccina (of 1970's golden age' groups Aktuala and Telaio Magnetico). Cutrone ascribes a degree of his maximalist tendencies to a rootless youth packed with parents through Europe and the Near East, absorbing fragments of sensation and sound, but his own decade-plus experience in the Italian underground has doubtless played a role as well. Intensity accrues, patience decays. Closure is its own reward.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Hombrelobo Studio by V. Fisik. Artwork and design by LEGNO, photography by Ilaria Doimo.

* Celebrating some of the artists that have moulded the label today, whilst simultaneously showcasing upcoming talent, the album is split into two parts - the 'Future Blueprint'; including original / newly remixed music from the likes of DLR, Skeptical, Gerra, Stone & Cern and the 'Past Blueprint'; a selection of our best loved cuts from over the years, with numerous showings from Survival, Break and Zero T, plus classics from A.I., Marcus Intalex and Duo Infernale.
* Reflecting on how the label and artists have developed together in time, further names appear on both Parts 1 & 2, including Script (on 'Sahara' with Survival and also the classic 'Set Up The Set') and label boss Ant TC1, alongside Chris SU and Stress Level first for 'Waves' and now, remixing Nymfo's 'Coming Through' with Seattle duo Quadrant & Iris.
* With special thanks to all the fans, press and DJs that have supported us over the years, we are thrilled to have made it to a century of releases; with so much good music around today, we look forward to sharing our plans for 2017 and on.

Floridian fantasy island ethnographer Wave Temples is responsible for a unique flow of opaque tropical hallucinations since 2013, issued via a variety of noted tape boutiques. His latest, Isle Enchanted, maps a mirage coastline of salt haze, cerulean water, and smeared, siren keys. Both sides were tracked across three summer days, inspired by notions of Polynesian paradise and the Maori underworld. Blank blue waves swell and crash, tones dance and zone, textures phase and fade - Isolation Exotica, for castaways abandoned on utopian shores. As personal and poetic an encapsulation of palm tree minimalism as any we've heard since ...On Sea-Faring Isolation (2009). The more hidden the temple the more sacred the space: This place to me is what it must have been like to discover the island of Capri or Malta uninhabited since beyond ancient days.'

A slice of international oddball rap from la Baleine 3000, a group composed of Belgian producer Lawrence Le Doux, French DJ Afrojaws, and Japanese MC Illreme.
The EP features seven cuts of soft, dreamy beats, vinyl fuzz, and delicate verses that speak to hip-hop's universal appeal and ability to transcend boundaries. As Illreme puts it on 'The Nap', "the story is always over on the way. When does this story end"

Following releases on labels such as Greco-Roman, TTT and Templar Sound, Dro Carey (Eugene Ward) returns to the scene with his new offering, the industrious yet delicate track 'Queensberry Rules' featuring the vocals of KUCKA, taken from his Dark Zoo EP, out now via Australian label Soothsayer.
Where his previous releases have been firmly focused on the smoke-riddled clubs, Queensberry Rules sees Dro Carey traverse new territory. Working with KUCKA and Collarbones' Marcus Whale on the track, 'Queensberry Rules' sees the Sydney producer creating a unique pop sound, however maintain the gritty DNA that he is so distinctively known for.
As Dro states ''Queensberry Rules' are the set of rules that outline the general code for boxing matches. It's a document about fairness and sportsmanship in a pretty violent activity. That immediately struck me as a great title for a demo. Working with KUCKA and Marcus Whale (of Collarbones) as a co-writer, I think their lyrics perfectly hit upon the sense of irony that I wanted the song to have.'
The track was the first official taste from his Dark Zoo EP which sees Ward push the limits even further within his musical explorations. Whether it's the pop moments of 'Queensberry Rules' and 'Dark Zoo' where he employs the vocals of both KUCKA and FKL respectively to elevate the sonic sensory overload to new levels, to the brooding club explorations that are 'Grow Lithe' and 'Hidden Halls'; the EP is his musical coup d'état from the outset - simultaneously sinister, restrained and intoxicating.
We are absolutely thrilled to present this little gem on Vinyl. This special vinyl release also includes not only the single, but two remixes from heavy weights Mall Grab and Cassius, and a very special new track titled 'Under' which is and will always only be available on the vinyl release of this. Dive in!

An independent band since 1998, Dub inc are nonetheless fully acclaimed by the entire reggae scene. The group won no less than three Victoires du Reggae awards (in 2014 for the "Paradise" album, in 2011 for "Hors Contrôle", and 2008 for "Afrikya"). In 2016, they are back with a sixth LP, "So What". No doubt this one will be yet another important landmark. Completely self-produced, as is their habit and will, this fourteen-track record is the result of a long process of composing and writing songs inspired by the dark events that have been going on in France in the last few months. Featuring a mix of dancehall, hip-hop, and electronica influences, "So What" is a pure reggae album upholding the values of this rebellious, spiritual, and universal music genre.
The album uninhibitedly addresses complex themes such as identitarian closure, the anxiety of countries who only speak out of fear and rejection of the other, or conspiracy theories that have no other purposes than to confuse people ("Triste Epoque", "So What"). However, it does include a large dose of optimism too, as well as calls for love and respect for your neighbours, whoever they are. As sons of immigrants who built their lives in France and transmitted them the values of integrity, respect and solidarity, the members of Dub Inc are the epitome of the fact that we can accomplish beautiful things only together and united ("Exil", "No Matter Where You Come from"). The social themes dear to the group are present ("Justice"), but "So What" also features lighter songs such as "Grand Périple", offsetting the record's mood with notes of optimism. "Love is the Meaning" brings a softer touch to the album, "Fêlés" pays tribute to the band's fans and "Ragga Bizness" humorously deals with the throes of the music world. Besides these risk-taking songs, some more typical tunes are reminiscent of the band's debut albums ("Exil", "Comme de l'or").
The band's politically conscious lyrics lie somewhere between constructive projections into the future and implacable analyses on the present. Each tune is a cleverly orchestrated composition, proving once again the band's production qualities.
After five successful albums, Dub Inc have been eagerly awaited. "So What" successfully converts the try, placing them for good in the French musical landscape.

All tracks written and produced by Peter Van Hoesen & Yves De Mey
Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci at EnissLab Studio, Rome
Cover image: The Wind has Ears - Mt Maurice, South Australia, 44 hours 1992 Wind Drawing by Cameron Robbins
Editions Mego is proud to publish the third release by Sendai. Comprised of Peter van Hoesen and Yves de Mey, Ground and Figure presents the duo reside in a more economic framework which allows the sound and rhythm they produce more room to shift, swirl and swim the circumference of the audio spectrum. Moving away from the twitchiness and anxiety of the earlier output Ground and Figure is a vast spacious journey from a duo in full control of their chosen path.
Throughout Ground and Figure abstraction and rhythm weave amongst each other in such a sly manner that the resulting tension in the conflicting elements presents the listener with a hypothetical high-tech elastic percussive grid. A thudding, pulsating, shapeshifting ambient beast is summoned by these two creators working as one.
This is machine music. This is hypnotic disorientation. This is an immense ambitious and refined world of sound and rhythm. This is the work of two producers who continuously try to top up their skills.

31 RECORDS / BLINDSIDE / BROKEN AUDIO / COMMERCIAL SUICIDE / CREATIVE SOURCE / CYLON / DEMAND / INGREDIENTS / LOSSLESS MUSIC / MAC II / PROJECT 51 / SAMURAI MUSIC / VAMPIRE the time is right to start releasing on his own imprint and his debut is a banger. 2 straight forward high quality drum and bass tunes for the true fans. //
The Studio Pressure EP (mastered by the mighty DJ Hive!) demonstrates Soul Intents versatility as a producer. The title track is a glitchy stepper with old skool house and garage influences plus Soul Intents first ever vocal (all be it just a spoken line). //
Following up on the very well received Studio Pressure EP we're back to hit you with release
no.3 - more quality cuts from label boss Soul Intent. All three tracks skillfully mastered by DJ
Hive at his Darkart Mastering studio in L.A.! !
Cowboy Tune has been around on dub for a while now but we feel this track deserves some
long overdue limelight. Absolutely battered by the one and only Doc Scott, as well enjoying
club and radio support from the likes of Loxy, Ruffhouse, Flight, C4C, and Marcus Intalex it's
clearly only gaining in popularity. Dark and moody dubbed-out vibes alongside 'that' bassline.! !
Raggamuffin see's Soul Intent on a ragga tip. A rolling old skool break providing the rhythm
track against dark and distorted bass stabs, and a weighty 40Hz sub workout. Raggamuffin
has had more rewinds than it's creator can remember. A proper party tune.! !
Odyssia is Soul Intents 140BPM alias, with previous releases via Alley Cats 'Kokeshi' label.
This Odyssia remix continues Alex's exploration into those deep, garage drenched vibes he so
clearly has a passion for. Call it garage, future garage, bass music, whatever....we just call it
good electronic music.

Brooklyn's Tour de Force (TDF) begin 2016 with an update to one of their best, and most loved, dubplate weapons. Soundboy Prayer was written in late 2013 and has spent the past few years as a centerpiece of TDF sets, wreckin' havoc on the Dub-Stuysystem with its iconic Johnny Osbourne vocal sample, trampling horns, and dark melodies. Consistent support from DJs and crowd reaction convinced TDF to dust off the riddim and give it a full release. The official 12' refreshes the production with added bass weight, a new arrangement, and a cavernous dub version.
Backing the original and its dub are two remixes from producers within the worldwide sound system community whose approach echoes TDF's blend of reggae and bass music. Chopstick Dubplate's Jacky Murda, who has worked with Barrington Levy, Top Cat, and Johnny Osbourne himself, was a natural fit to capture the junglist vibe of the original and turn it into an energetic jungle remix that begs for the rewind. Poland'sRadikal Guru, one of the brightest lights of the European dub community, provides the second remix, keeping things dubby and nice with a blend of reggae and dubstep that emphasises catchy string melodies and a weighty bass line. Radikal Guru's approach to blending traditions has been an inspiration for us,' says TDF Q-Mastah, so he was a natural choice for this release.'

Beneath's early productions first surfaced on the Wifey show on Deja Vu FM. Releases followed through his own No Symbols label, DJ Pinch's Tectonic and Blackdown's Keysound.
He is widely acclaimed for his originality, in synthesising the dread soundscapes of 2004-2006 dubstep with the rolling tempo of UK funky and echoes of the "bleep 'n' bass" subgenre of UK house and techno.
This debut for Niche 'N' Bump (orchestrated by a member of the Wifey crew) showcases his most uncompromising work, mixing wild, off-kilter bass with mutating, otherworldly tones.
Swing Ting are a Manchester DJ and production duo behind the city's energetic club nights of the same name. Known for injecting up-to-the-minute UK music with bashment-inspired energy, here their remix ably advances that mission. Armed with breaking glass, dub sirens and enhanced bass pressure it blasts "Bellz" into a sleek shape for peak-time dancefloors, resembling their 2011 overhall of Mosca's "Tilt Shift" for Fat City.

Shapes Of Rhythm launches its new south London-based label with a collaborative EP release from its two founders, Tom Central and BodyMoves. Dual Thought is a collection of beats and syncopations, weaving a dustypatchwork of samples around contemporary beats.Gilles Peterson gave the EP its radio debut, playing Himba on BBC Radio 6 Music. As well as this, Wish has been premiered on Gilles' Worldwide FM station. DJ support comes from Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s), DJ Gilla (First Word) and Pete On The Corner (Worldwide FM, On The Corner Records).Starting with a pile of LPs and a classic home studio set-up, the EP was created by a handful of jam sessions between the two artists. Textura opens the EP with a swinging hip hop beat, afro atmospheres and rhythms with a sprinkle of the LA beat sound. One For Crates is also hip hop oriented but is groove-based, melodic and instrumental also featuring afro texures. BodyMoves flies solo for Wish, with a 90 bpm beat-driven soul cut with its feet firmly in Brasil. It's the spiritual follow up to This Is Gabor's House from his well received 2015 debut North Spaulding EP on Keep Up! Records. Himba closes the EP with more Afro-centric grooves and chanting with plenty of percussion and bass.

City of All Times is a sound collage of field recordings and songs, recorded at various locations across Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Spain and the UK. The album documents, among other things, climbing Gardnos Crater, catching the Viking Line from Stockholm to Turku, commuting in Neukoln, cycling across Hardangervidda plateau, meandering in Gracia and pallbearing in Beaulieu.
The result is a web of chance impressions - overheard conversations, rural ambience and eavesdropped rehearsals captured on the fly yet weirdly interlocking, like a dizzying expanse of avenues and streets, country lanes and subways. A city where there is no homogenisation - just total existence, total cacophony, a total flowing of human ethnicities and tribes and beings and gradations of awareness and consciousness and cruising.
Devonanon is John B McKenna and Richard Greenan. Additional production by Best Available Technology.
City of All Times is a joint Kit Records / Lost Map release.

* 'Pure, Beyond Reproach' is the new studio album from vibrational club artist Egyptrixx. New sensations + new energy, jeep music for a Saturn moon. An exercise in physical sound and granular symbolism, this record suggests a parallel between the total impact of human tendency towards absolute loyalty and an imagined, sub-threshold percussion of collisions among all the oceanic micro-plastics. Bap emotion >> this and that.
* The aesthetic is pacific litter clank, chill torrents and artificial triumphalism...actual glow. Repetition apes tidal energy, a reminder of the revolutionary capability of sound. splashing, pounding, dripping, phasing. Glinted piles of shatter swept back and forth - crystal ammunition // liquid contemplation. Anodyne ammo mimics the erasure of ethics via dispersion, backlit by the low key petroleum tangle of bffs/oblivion.

Oliver Reissig aka Deskai, hailing from Paris and currently residing in Berlin, is no stranger to the drum & bass game. A devoted drummer, a skilled DJ, and a talented producer, drawing heavily on the aesthetics of the sound of the 1990s, with his releases gaining recognition among e.g. LTJ Bukem, Blu Mar Ten, John B, Seba, Stunna, Future Engineers, Electrosoul System, LM1, Tidal, Mav, Rogue State, Method One, or PBK (to name a few), he's now about to serve you his latest EP called 'Atemporal', released on a limited 12" on Mav's 'Scientific Records'. The EP is a powerful combination of fast-paced and roughedged atmospheric d'n'b, heavy-drummed, take-no-prisoners rollers, and hazy jungle excursions; a pack to deal a heavy blow and leave you craving for more, to put it in a nutshell. If you're after something fresh and exciting yet with a pleasantly familiar touch at the same time, look no further and hop aboard this train heading straight and directly to the land of 170 BPM.

Moonshine Recordings continues to coordinate dub into all sorts of directions with its steady throughput of vinyl releases. This time around, it's the Spanish-based Bukkha to uplift all followers with two up-tempo rollers that take part in his crucial 'Ruling Sound' EP. His name has been all over the news inside bass culture lately, as the American released highly noted physical music on critical labels like Killa Sound and Dub-Stuy Records. He's been working his way to the top and the only thing the Moonshine Recordings imprint can do is support his efforts in pushing dub music to the masses at any given moment of the day.
On top of this wicked news, Portland's dub producer and engineer 'Skelli Skel' joins this session to frame the taste of the 'PDX Mandem' collective from back home. His love for complex rhythms and heavy bass lines fuel his adventure inside dub culture, something you'll hear when listening to 'MS028'. And with the familiar voice from don Junior Dread, who jumps in on the hype by illuminating the dub with carefully selected freedom of speech, it's the collaboration that speaks for itself. To top it all, TMSV is added to the release roster, a producer whose been dealing some serious damage with his inventive music repertoire. Whether it's music on the darker tip, or the more laidback sound, both Bukkha and TMSV know how to uplift and please their followers with bass-heavy, eardrums-teasing bass music.
Bukkha's 'Ruling Sound' leads his way through musicality by portraying the right balance of instruments and not to mention the gigantic bassline that disperses vibrantly through the lower bottom of the mix. The reigning vocal support from Junior Dread and dub techniques from PDX Mandem family Skelli Skell work out fantastically, as it makes this record come to life. Listen to the instrumental part that propagates in the exact sense of 'dub music', regardless of spinning on a higher beats per minute. The version 'Ruling Dub' by Bukkha himself plays a more meditative part inside your headspace; a clipping where basslines and effects will act up in a blurred version. It's the real attention to detail the American producer shares with remix boss TMSV, who hits fans with a darker joint that pays homage to Drum & Bass. It's aggressive stance forms the pinnacle of 'the right' B-side of a Moonshine Recordings plate. Just make sure you experience the second drop of this absolutely mammoth interpretation, as TMSV shuts down the place!

Returning from the unknown space of his debut, martianMan is back to refine his label's ethos, continuing the exploration of sci-fi themes & deep ambience with Vol.2
The opener, Got A Dream', bubbles up from submerged atmospheres, as a crisp, rattling break fights its way through the fog. martianMan once again shows off his ear for textures, subtle vocals fade in and out of an entrancing, bottomless pad. A dark-meets-light journey through the cosmos.
Amber Fields' comes straight from the halcyon days of the mid-90's intelligent movement. A light, rolling Hot Pants break gives way to a myriad of pads, strings and bleeps, each element shifting neatly throughout the fold. Fans of the Good Looking vibe would do well to pick up this piece of subtle, understated beauty.

We're so pleased to finally be able to offer up a hard and timely digi stepper from Reggae Roast's Adam Prescott alongside the unbeatable Macka B.
Always insightful, clever, and serious-as-your-life, Macka B delivers a lyric tailor-made for these treacherous times, a deeply insightful essay on the many ways fear is deployed as a Babylonian weapon to keep us passive, obedient, distracted, confused, and compliant. From Brexit to Trump, the message is both universal and very local.
Relicking a classic Horace Andy tune (we'll let you figure out which), a twinkling melody leads the way alongside militant snares and a darkly addictive bassline for a riddim grounded firmly in the 90s UK dub tradition. "Fear Dub" cracks open vaults of dubspace with Macka B's voice delaying into pure signal, and the bass heaving from reverbed depths. Percussion multiplies through the stereo field while skanks, synth, and tones cut through the darkness like thermal images in a dark night.
Adam Prescott has releases on labels including his own Reggae Roast, Liondub, Grand Ancestor and Trigram. Macka B is a veteran with no less than 100 releases on many of the greatest reggae labels of all time, including Black Scorpio, XTerminator, Fashion, Penthouse, and an especially long and amazing run of releases on Mad Professor's Ariwa label.

Inaugurating a new chapter for Horo, Liam Blackburn continues his journey as Ancestral Voices. Following on from the 'Night Of Visions' LP for Samurai Horo and his recent 'Old Earth Voodoo' EP for Samurai Music, 'Yantra' is 4 soaring creations that further develop his caustic ambience. Euphoric touches that hint at his work as Indigo are added into the mix, but the hazy sonic atmosphere initiated with 'Night Of Visions' dominates throughout, refined here into a meditative form that whispers renewal and rediscovery.

Space. An infinity of possibilities to be explored. A potential refuge for future generations as our selfish and gluttonous society continues to indulge, expand and consume our current world
Who gives a shit.
That was just a faux-portentous, melodramatic and somewhat tenuously referencing attempt to grab your attention on account of Purple City Soufflé's maiden voyage coming hot 'n' fresh out the kitchen courtesy of Brighton based Space Cadet and all round lovely chap Etch.
The EP is called the Cosmic B-Boy EP. So you see There's that tenuous link we mentioned earlier.
We won't bother going overboard on the wanky track descriptions like most labels either as the audio is attached to this very press release (provided our PR girl isn't being a complete wastewomman) but basically it's six slices of some of the freshest, most psychedelic hip-hop out there at present, taking in influences as broad reaching and downright cutting edge as Kool Keith in his Doctor Octagon guise, Lil Flip in his bog standard stoned southern drawl and substandard lyric guise and Nigella Lawson in her Goddess who could quite realistically find a way to make you want to genuinely wank over a meat hammer guise.
The Cosmic B-Boy EP is suitable for both boys and girls. It is 100% organic, free range, has zero carbon footprint and sees Etch branch out into previously uncharted sonic territory (we could probably crowbar another space exploration / final frontier reference in there if we weren't writing this whilst trying to microwave a pastie.)
It's available on all half-decent streaming services and digital download (boring) or available on delicious purple vinyl with fully illustrated sleeves courtesy of the Burma Shave Construction Co. (Well good)

London-based duo Jamka return with Inter Alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate
relationship with their analogue machines. From the start there's a sense of event - we encounter
clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats.
The tracks aren't soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. Patemp continuously
expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that Jamka's technical skills don't
preclude an emotional touch. On the tight and minimal Anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of
minimal techno and radical electronica, but it's beyond either of these. While the album passes
quickly, it's full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. Dwa
offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures - the modernist
romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. Jamka are
known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on Derazor. The
stately Igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. The sharp,
metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through.
Inter Alia makes clear that Jamka are worthy inheritors of Slovakia's proud late modernist
traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. This is a work of craft that demands respect
and repeated listening.

We are well-pleased to present the return of Tayo, veteran UK producer and selector absent from releasing music for a few years, now 'coming in strong, strong...' as the champion Earl 16 sings on a sweet paean to roots music itself.Flanged guitar skanks, a classic Cry Tuff horns chop, and melodica sweet-like-honey set the tone and vibe, before the full riddim drops all at once - a deeply melodic bassline, binghi drum, and a pounding kick, forging a steppers guaranteed to move dancers and get the most out of any system big or small.Tayo started the Cool & Deadly club night at Fabric in the earliest days of what would be known as dubstep, booking Skream, Mala, Youngster, Iration Steppas and his good friend Rob Smith. Tayo's own catalog stretches back to 2000 when he was crucial in the development of dubwise garage/breaks. His works include a seminal Fabriclive mix, and classic tunes alongside sparring partner Acid Rockers such as "Wicked Dub," 'Bloodline,' and later 'Vampayaa" on Scrub A Dub back in 2010.Originally written in a lighthouse in New Zealand, the riddim became a collaboration with Acid Rockers that we've been playing on dubplate for some time. Linking in the studio with old touring partner Earl 16 produced the lyric, completing a wicked return to form. Earl 16 should need no introduction, going hard as a roots singer since his debut album in 1981 for Mikey Dread. Even a casual look and listen at his catalog will reveal an artist of unique voice, integrity, longevity and talent.Tayo wishes to big up ZamZam "for contacting me and making me feel special again.' We wish to thank him for gracing us with this timeless single, his first in six years! 'Play the music Mr. DJ..."Limited to 600 copies for the world. Vinyl only, no digital, no repress. Mastered by Lewis at Star Delta.

Nested Structure is the first Great Circles release from artists outside of Philadelphia. THRIVE are Tetsuya Yoshida and Hitoshi Kojima. They both grew up in the North Kanto area of Japan. They first met at the club run by Tetsuya Yoshida called SOUND A BASE NEST, which is known as having the best sound system in the North Kanto area. In 2007, the duo started their DJ / Producing unit THRIVE. Previous releases have included a split 12" with
Keia Yano for Japanese label Struct, and recent solo releases by Hitoshi for Always Human Tapes and for his own label Ambivalent Deviation.
This record almost didn't happen! --- Tetsuya and Hitoshi were picking up Great Circles records in Japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the Struct 12" to check out. While cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo CD of unreleased THRIVE material inside. We drove around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12".
The music on the Nested Structure 12" is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. It's hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

Between them you can tick off virtually every major label from past to present - Metalheadz, Shogun Audio, Hospital, Exit, Dispatch, V Recordings, Renegade Hardware, Timeless, Reinforced, as well as their own imprints CIA, Phantom Audio, Function and Inneractive with a huge catalogue that spans dance floor anthems and underground classics alike.
CRAZE - Dope!!
Simon Bassline Smith - B-Line!! The Upbeats - Jigsaw is a tune!! TC - Vey Good!
After all these years, having had such a close friendship and association, the one thing they were yet to do was actually make it into the studio together! It was time for that to be rectified. The first results emerged on the CIA 20 Album, and now they present the rest of the story so far. Four tracks, two concurrent releases and an uncompromising selection of music that throws all their styles into one red hot melting pot.
Shimon - Yes yes thats whats been missing 10/10 Marky - Absolutely KILLER!!!!
Krust - Tearing !!
DJ Teebee - siiiick
Volume 1 opens with the impossibly infectious dubbed-out bassline of 'Rumble' soaked in ethereal keys and cavernous fx for a superlative hypnotic groove that crosses all boundaries. 'Overlord' takes rolling breakbeat funk into overdrive, building towards a crescendo of swirling riffs and tripped-out echoes.
'Jigsaw' kicks off Volume 2 with a homage to classics past. Mix in some 'Remote Control', sprinkle in some 'Champion Sound' then add in a dose of 'Squash' and the result is an unashamed guaranteed floorfiller that could only emerge from this meeting of minds. To round it all off, things get deep and dirty with the crunchy breaks, funky thumping tones and soaring vocal hooks of 'Fall Down'.
Total Science Vs Digital & Spirit, CIA Vs Phantom Audio

Marc Nguyen Tan is a man outside of time. He is both an avant-garde pioneer and a modern classic. Colder, the electronic project he's helmed since 2003, inhabits a sonic world that drives into the future as much as it gazes into the past. His is a unique sound of noir-drenched highways of propulsive electronic cold wave, krautrock and post-punk, touched by everything from the Chromatics' bleary-eyed romanticism to the Horrors' atmospheric groove, via the teutonic precision of NEU! and Can.
Hot on the heels of Colder's third album Many Colours released late last year and Some Lost Tapes, a Record Store Day exclusive EP, June 24th sees the release of two new Colder albums: The Rain and Goodbye, themselves lost in time. A combination of new and reworked unreleased material from Colder's years at Trevor Jackson's now defunct Output label, Bataille Records is proud to unleash two new parts to the Colder story: Goodbye, a swaggering groove-laden album of synthesised jagged guitars and dynamic electronica, and The Rain, a more experimental record of glacial ambience and New Wave expressionism.
A testament to just how ahead of the curve Colder is, the two albums beguile and intrigue with their explorations of Gallic darkwave cool, a sound which would go on to influence everyone from LCD Soundsystem to Liars. Tan has always been a master of using his consummate understanding of music past to create music of the future. The time capsule opens, and Colder still sounds like the future.
Take 'Blackhole Speedway' from Goodbye: a stuttering motorik beat underpins snatched guitar stabs and a pulsing bassline, all with those hushed vocals that Colder makes his own. Elsewhere, the title track (and album closer, naturally) expands on the template by employing a throbbing synth figure, and melding it to an almost-blues riff, chugging away behind Tan's half-sung vocal. Goodbye feels more immediate and driving, with 'Sugar's 21st century sensual rockabilly pitching Kraftwerk in a Detroit dive bar, whereas 'Sad Faces' struts like a long lost circus sideshow helmed by Jim Morrison in the digital era.
Despite this unexpected torrent of new and upcoming releases, there remains a dark, perverse humour in Tan naming his new album Goodbye, leaving behind an ever characteristic shroud of ambiguity as to whether this is truly farewell, or an ending to engender many more beginnings.

The story of Gold Panda's journey from an acclaimed debut record to now, as he releases his third full length album, is an entirely circular one. Hailing from Chelmsford Essex in the UK, in the six years since the release of his genre-defining debut album 'Lucky Shiner', the electronic artist most comfortable with the moniker Derwin Panda spent the subsequent years splitting the majority of his time between London, Berlin and countless excursions to Japan. As he created his third album ''Good Luck And Do Your Best' he ultimately found himself back where he began, in the East of England. Whereas his second album 'Half Of Where You Live' was occasionally taut, perhaps harder and more piecing, the 11 songs that comprise 'Good Luck And Do Your Best' have a distinctly warmer palate, one that echoes 'Lucky Shiner' a little more, albeit with a clearer range of sounds, and also, to Derwin's mind, one where 'the tracks aren't popping out against each other. It's a complete record.'

After two years in the making, Aus Music, !K7 and Wordandsound are proud to announce the release of Scottish producer Sei A's third full length, Space in Your Mind. Two singles from the ten track opus-'Ancestors' and 'Space In Your Mind,' complete with DJ Tennis remixes-will come ahead of the full release on February 26th 2016. Sei A is Andy Graham, an ever-evolving producer who has cooked up many different shades of house and techno since emerging in 2008. From dark and melodic to well swung and bass heavy, he is not one to repeat the same trick twice as two former LPs and more than 15 EPs on labels like Turbo, Life And Death, Kompakt and Aus/Simple have proved before now. As if to cement the point, this full length finds Graham straying from the dance floor to cook up a fulsome album that stands up to introspective home listening. The LP came from writing a lot of music in a short space of time,' says Graham. I felt I had grasped a sound and I wanted to expand it further. Musically I was finding that the material had much more space within the sound, with the main structure of it being melodies, therefore giving it quite a rich feel throughout. I was also aiming to expand on writing actual songs that take in verse/chorus, verse/chorus structures.' And he has sure accomplished that, because with the help of guest collaborators Will Samson and Daudi Matsiko on four tracks, Space in Your Mind is an absorbing listen with many melodies and vocal lines lingering long in the memory.

Second up from December's brace of monstrously good new 45s from Polytechnic Youth, comes a new single from The Home Current. Previous releases on the label have sold out in a heartbeat and this one is another beauty.
The Home Current is the project of Dane, Martin Jensen, previously based in London now recording from his new base in Luxembourg. He co-founded the 'Second Language' label in 2009 and co ran it until 2014. He has been a DJ since the mid 1980s and was the brains behind the great Music and Migration' trilogy compilation series in support of BirdLife International.
That Summer' is a beautifully punchy, percussive slice of electronica- a real slow burner that is best whacked out with volume hiked up and complements the more stripped down, yet equally melodic flip Gelb' which Martin himself says is inspired by his deep love of the work of Yellow Magic Orchestra'.
Another fabulous PY 45 which like every release on the label is destined to sell out super quick. 2017 sees releases from Pye Corner Audio, Polypores, Faten Kanaan, The Listening Center and tons more. A hand numbered pressing of 250 copies on vinyl only with tasty sleeve art....

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his 'Beastmode' LP cracks him open like you've never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent.
'Beastmode' reflects all his output to date. Whether it's the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he's served up for Ram, this record won't leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre's murkier waters.
Whether it's the half-time, two stepping 'Move it Along' or the pulsing, snarling undertones of 'Thud', you're blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. 'Thunder Ride' serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio and his more fearsome.
On the other hand, 'Rogue' presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio's ingenious sound design.
And flipping the switch once again is 'Sovereign', a nod to the producer's roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you're drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition.
Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration 'Creatures', alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. 'Creatures' delivers everything you'd expect and more, steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics.
Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles 'Make it Happen', 'Overdose', 'Drop it Human' and 'Shatterdome'. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records... In all of its twenty-five years of history.

---
INF001: Panic Girl returns with her long awaited first studio album Lowlands to be released on Infiltrator Records, following the critically-acclaimed Burn And Rise EP and The Panic Girl Remix EP, which joined together artists like dBridge, Phace and Duo Infernale. This 12-track LP is a very personal and unique journey into the mind of Panic Girl, exploring the depths, dark corners and sparkling mysteries of trip hop and electronica and not only thrusts Panic Girl to new heights, but is also highly addictive and deeply enchanting. With this album Panic Girl is further developing her own sound, taking in haunting melodies, a love of the bass, heavy synth work and oldskool sounds. Lowlands will leave you wanting to hear more and is going to be an album to treasure for sure - if you let her take you on a spellbinding journey into her raw, dark and pure electronica universe. About Panic Girl Hailing from Munich, Panic Girl alias Martha Plachetka dedicated her life to music from an early age. After receiving classical training in piano, guitar, and singing she got deep into the production of electronic music. If you visit her place, it is hard to not fall over a big mess of cables and different production gear like the Marxophone, Doepfer, Stylophone, or Virus synthesizer. Influenced by a wide range of music like 70s psychedelic, progressive rock, trip hop, as well as drum and bass and classical, Panic Girl delivers a deep mixture of electronica and trip hop. Being dead serious about her art, she not only writes her own lyrics and music, but as well produces all recordings on her own.

Killer punkrockdub album from 1983 finally reissued via the consistent Light In The Attic label. HUGE tip!!
Political post-punk trio This Heat dissolved at a turbulent time in the UK. Margaret The Iron Lady' Thatcher was in power, and her budget-cutting, ultra-conservative influence was felt strongly in-among many other places-the cultural melting pot of Brixton, South London, where This Heat had their origins. Dusting himself off after the collapse of the band in 1982, guitarist/vocalist Charles Bullen united with Julius Samuel to form Lifetones and embraced the sounds of the local West Indian community to fuse reggae flavor to the kind of propulsive, rhythmic, and experimental music made by This Heat.
Deceit, This Heat's 1981 album, had seen them work with David Cunningham, who had already helped mesh dub reggae with new wave pop on The Flying Lizards' 1979 single, Money (That's What I Want Want).' Even so, For A Reason was a great leap, one that created a strange, unsettling mood as Bullen's multi-tracked, chant-like vocals met dub beats and Krautrock-informed repetition. Where Deceit dealt with the nuclear threat, For A Reason was less reactionary, even quoting Bob Marley in its lyrics: you love the life you live, you live the life you love.'
Just six tracks and half an hour long, the album was recorded at Cold Storage studio and released on Bullen's own Tone Of Life Records. It has become a sought-after collector's item that changes hands for hundreds of dollars a time. As a solo artist, Bullen was not prolific-it was 15 years until, in 1998, he released Internal Clock under the name Circadian Rhythms-but like the rest of his band, he has enjoyed a long, enriching career in unending pursuit of new sounds.
Even though This Heat had no commercial success to follow up on, For A Reason was an album created with no intention of hitting the charts. Reissued on Light In The Attic, Lifetones' single album retains a timeless quality and perhaps-on tracks such as Good Side'-a futuristic sound that nobody else ever caught up to.

After the blunted murk of their previous self-titled mini-album on Idle Hands, Amos 'Jabu' Childs and Sam 'Neek' Barrett return to the place where their most fragmented ideas manifest in fleeting glimpses of tracks. Theirs is a teasing approach, where all the facets of a fully formed track are condensed down to one or two minutes of distilled excellence.Things have moved on since that previous eight-track skirmish (and indeed the excellentMemoryz Ov Ucassette on No Corner), as though someone has cracked the blinds in the cutting room where Childs and Barrett sit splicing together their bittersweet vignettes. "Oasis Weir" is an especially hopeful opening gambit with its sunkissed melodic inflections, but of course you can sense the disquiet behind the daydream. "I won't be long", the disembodied voice assures, but once you enter a record such as this time becomes something of an abstract. Even if it only lasts 20 minutes, listening toIDLE038 yields as much depth as any long-form LP.The point here is that the duo have left no room for fat. Every second of sonics counts for something, helping realise compositional perfection in a place free of arrangement, chasing the ultimate loop. From bruising darkness to heartbreaking beauty, the breadth and impact achieved in such a short space of time is testament to the continued development of this most precocious of Bristolian projects. It's another step on for O$MVM$M, and a further achievement for Idle Hands in the quest for ever more interesting sounds from the local area and beyond.

Following on from the acclaimed Talk From Home', Suzanne Kraft returns to Melody As Truth with a second full release, What You Get For Being Young'. Recorded in Amsterdam over the course of May 2016, What You Get For Being Young' offers a full immersion into Kraft's ever-evolving world. A Milky TIP!
.
Lush, digital manipulated synths spread across cold surfaces, metallic drums dance around skeletal song structures. Whilst echoes of Talk From Home' remain, they are but faint echoes, as Kraft's recent exploration into sound-design and digital manipulation confidently posits What You Get For Being Young'
as an entirely new chapter in the artist's growing narrative.

On August 31, 2013, for the opening of Wade Guyton's exhibition at Kunsthalle Zurich, Blondes, James Campbell, and I.U.D. each performed in front of one Guyton's expansive canvases. This 4 LP vinyl record acts as a catalogue for the four gallery exhibition with a double gatefold that unfolds to present a model of the installation on the second floor of the museum. Each record contains one performance from the night, and corresponds directly to the painting in front of which the performance took place. Filled with organic growth and decay, Blondes find ways of creating a sonic environment that feels removed from the artificial perfection of computers. In this performance they've reacted to the room of the Kunsthalle, reinterpreting the tracks from their celebrated album Swisher, restraining the percussion to make room for washes of reverb and textured melody. James Campbell's performance explores the resonance of the space. Filtered amplifiers concentrate pools of room tones that pulse under minimal percussion. By processing his drums and sequenced oscillators through delay feedback he produces a skittering phase interference moiré. Sparse and entrancing, Campbell's drumming obliterates into powerful drone. I.U.D. are Lizzi Bougatsos and Sadie Laska, who drum up a fierce sound over lots of fractured noise, primal percussion and abstract vocals while Spencer Sweeney accompanies on guitar and drums.

Black Truffle is thrilled to announce Reverse Tree, the new LP from the acclaimed duo of Eyvind Kang and Jessika Kenney, two musicians who have established themselves as powerful voices working at a unique intersection of contemporary composition, improvisation, and Asian traditional music forms. Either individually or as a pair, they have worked in contexts ranging from performances of traditional Persian and Javanese music to collaborations with Sunn O))), but their work together as a duo (documented on The face of the earth and Aestuarium, both released on Ideological Organ/Editions Mego) most clearly represents the central concerns of their diverse practices: a music of the inner life of sound, demanding ritualistic focus and promising heightened sensations.
On Reverse Tree, the duo expand their work together into the realm of the chamber ensemble, presenting two side-long works that feature Kenney's voice and Kang's viola alongside a multitude of other instrumentalists. Kang's Thoughts on Being Exiled to the Frontier, for Lord Wei, inspired by a text by the Tang dynasty poet Hsueh T'ao, features an all-star international ensemble: Kang, Kenney, maverick Israeli conductor Ilan Volkov on violin, Icelandic cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, and guitarists Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley. The piece is primarily composed of irregular patterns of pizzicato notes and guitar harmonics, gently falling in and out of sync and providing a subtly unstable support for Kenney's voice, which sings long, wavering tones, at times reminiscent of Michiko Hirayama's classic performances of Scelsi. Drawing on 20th century instrumental techniques, alternate tuning systems, non-western music and the experience of nature (the irregular rhythms of the piece calling to mind nothing so much as drops of rain), the piece opens a space both serene and subtly uneasy.
Kenney's 'Elm features Kenney and vocalist Nova Ruth (of Filastine & Twin Sista) alongside an ensemble of strings and Seattle's Gamelan Pacifica, performing on Javanese instruments tuned to the slendro scale. An uncanny timbre created by bowing the keys of the Gamelan's instruments, supported by bowed harmonics from the strings, is heard consistently throughout the piece. After a long introductory section in which this harmonic cloud slowly descends from shimmering high notes to rumbling bass, the vocalists enter, singing a slow and stately setting of a 19th century Surakarta poem (attributed to Mangkunegara the IV). The melody is sung as a rich and wavering heterophony, with the ensemble sometimes rising up to support individual notes. The poem deals with the idea of a form of knowledge achieved through deeds, as a practice and state of the heart. This is music in slow motion, in which, in Kenney's words,

Philip Corner (b. 1933) is an American composer, musician and visual artist. His teachers include Henry Cowell and Olivier Messiaen. While on military duty in Korea in 1960-1961 he studied calligraphy with Ki-sung Kim and many of his works have calligraphic scores. A founder member of Fluxus, Corner has performed with George Maciunas, Dick Higgins, Yoko Ono and Nam June Paik. From 1967 to 1970 he taught the course in Experimental Composition at the New School for Social Research, which John Cage initiated in 1956. He was a member of Judson Dance Theater as both dancer and composer and has written scores for dance pieces by James Waring, Yvonne Rainer, Lucinda Childs and Elaine Summers among many others. He lives in Reggio nell'Emilia with his wife and performing partner, the dancer and choreographer Phoebe Neville. His wide-ranging output includes numerous works for gongs, bells, metal percussion and gamelan orchestra.
Philip Corner writes..., 'Hiah Park - new age shaman, then living in California (where else). My Korea connexion interest led me to a workshop she gave in New York, more sessions continued until the opportunity of really working together at the proposed seminar 'Art and the Invisible Reality' to be held in Bavaria. I revisited my old practice of 'metal meditations' specially reinterpreted to go with performance/dance derived from traditional shamanic practices (of which she a certified practitioner). Then done in Trento in front of the cathedral where we joked about when they burnd witches. After the two performances in Europe our association came to an end.
Sin Cha Hong, a great friend in New York and a fabulous dancer and choreographer. Truly profound and intense body-incorporated physicality serving a spiritual content in no need of official status. Her Korean-American company she called Laughing Stone (with its implicit antipod-olarity so seeming compatible with my own expression thru music), she used my anklung (Javanese bamboo rattles) quartet gamelan Adagio onstage for one of her solos.
For many years now she has been back in the Orient. We did reconnect in 1993, performing together in the festival 'The Seoul of Fluxus'. This recording I made alone in the New York loft with my 'familiar' - the large Paiste tam-tam: while holding her in my mind.
The dancer/shamans are, as their names show, from Korea - the country par excellence for this ancient form of religion incarnate. I have had a long a long continuing and most appreciative relationship to that country's culture, from 1960 when shipped as a trombonesman to the American occupying forces there and and turned on each afternoon listening to 'National (Kuk Ahk) Music Hour' their theme song 'Su Je Chun' - the most ancient piece from the court repertoire which I have never stopped hearing as the most beautiful music ever made. That, and the breakthrough composition 'Sang-Teh/Situations' which written and performed in Seoul in 1961, made this meeting and working with a genuine Korean shaman a spectacular amplification of my rapport.
It was the beginning of the years-long improvisation-meditation practice shared with many other dancers, including most notably Phœbe Neville, soon to become my wife, and still is.' - Philip Corner, Reggio nell'Emilia, 1st September, 2016.

Mannerlaatta (Tectonic Plate) is Mika Vainio's soundtrack for a 74 minute lettrist film made entirely without a camera' by Finnish film maker Mika Taanila, his 3rd following their previous
collaborations, A Physical Ring (2002) and Return of the Atom (2015).
The music was written very early on in the film's two and a half year development, and subsequently held a strong sway over the rhythm of the film's editing and visual narration - which takes place as a series of black and white images made from photocopying various travel documents, which were later photgrammed onto 35mm reversal film in a darkroom, and overlaid with text by poet Harry Salmenniemi. As Vainio tends to use a set-up of homebuilt kit unchanged from his very earliest productions, each new release is effectively a subtle alteration/refinement of his brutalist but tactile process of creation. And, going by that timeline of events, we'd speculate that Mannerlaatta was conceived somewhere in the wake of his staggering Kilo LP and the much sweeter Konstellaatio side as Ø,
which is roughly where its aesthetics also lie.
The 50 minute score breaks down to 6 sections, each exploring the full frequency spectrum of his patented, greyscale tonal palette, largely swerving a fixed rhythmic meter to occupy a weightless, outta reach mid-ground that seduces us headlong into his chasmic designs and, we'd imagine, best suits the black and white film imagery (full disclosure, we haven't seen it yet).
Key to the recording's appeal - as with most Vainio gear - is that peripheral sense of spatial dynamic and his unpredictable manipulation of amplitude, whether dangling us over abyssal
subbass dimensions, needling with icy prongs, or occasionally alleviating the tension with teasing pads which evaporate back into the æther as though they were never there, ultimately leaving us at rapt and at his mercy for the duration.

Somewhere from deep space, (or rather, the deep south) arrives the awaited first release on martianMan Recordings. Inspired by his surroundings in the sweltering Texas heat, the reclusive martianMan has silently been honing his craft, now building upon previous outings on the mighty Scientific Wax and Stand Firm Hi-Fi labels, to name a few. These two tunes are sure to set the standard for the label with his unique take on deep, cosmic drum & bass for the mind.
Unknown Amen' brings forth martianMan's signature outer-space pads, blips, and bass punctuated by a nimble Amen. The mood here is fleeting and hazy, the ever-expanding layers of ambience will make sure you never end up in the same place you started.
In traditionalist 12' style, Unknown Space' is a chilled-out complement to its flipside. Cosmic atmospheres morph and evolve from some thick, dream-like state, flittering between smudged, restless breaks. This is not a mind trip, this is a mind journey...'
