Nick Lapien's debut release as Metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. A skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. That initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore.

This, his second release as Metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. The titular track on the A side is a deep, psychedelic groover. Melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by Lapien with optimum restraint. Equally pensive and gorgeous, The Flood serves as a Machine's beat-less foil on the reverse. Made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of Jean Michel Jarre's more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. Expect to hear more from Lapien here at Sequencias. He has many more dark corners left unexplored.

Pierre Bastien is a musician (releasing since mid 1980's) who works with his own unique, self-built Meccano orchestra. This is far too simply put though, the musicians can be paperclips, insects, model birds, tubes or an old tonear perhaps. One perspective would be that he achieves his music via the construction of machines, or perhaps it's the other way round
*Having a profound love of old jazz and traditional World music, also a professional Bass player, he is noteable for sometimes picking up a trumpet or horn for accompaniment to the 'Mecanium' orchestra. Nowadays, on YouTube, you might find a robotic MIDI controllable guitar that can outplay any human, or a computer that will endlessly compose drum and bass and who knows what the future holds there. But Pierre Bastien has been evolving his own aims/methods/results/conclusions since he was a young boy and you will hear that his album is full of that natural charm, peace and purity; although after decades of exploration and experimentation, the music has achieved considerable sophistication.
*Pierre has already released 2 acclaimed albums with Rephlex; this one is accompanied by a bonus DVD and, although much of the source footage for that is lower resolution, once can get much closer to the full experience and enjoyment of his concerts and installations all over the world. Granparents and Grandkids and all in between will get something from this release. A chance to see and hear the machines in action, up close.

Tokyo electronic artist Nobuyuki Sakuma began her JESSE RUINS project a couple of years back along the way releasing songs for compilations, a single for Double Denim Records and then an EP for Captured Tracks last year. Garnering the assistance of multi-instrumentalist Nah and most recently drummer Yosuke Tuchida, JESSE RUINS is now a fully fledged trio and are set to release their debut album, A Film. It's a diverse affair, powerfully beat driven yet contemplative, starry eyed yet washed out. First single, Laura Is Fading is a perfect example of this. A four four beat and pumping bass propels the track along as peculiar, almost abyss like synths provide a melody from, seemingly, another world.

Nihjgt Feelings is a record label currently based in Bozcaada, Turkey and run by oOoOO with a couple of local gravediggers. They release heartbroken night music. In June 2013 they will present oOoOO's debut LP.
Without Your Love is the long awaited debut LP from oOoOO (https://www.facebook.com/ oOoOOsounds). The LP further develops - in sometimes very unexpected ways - the sounds oOoOO has become known for through previous releases with Tri Angle Records. "This is a whole new level of weird", intones a disembodied voice on Proxima's 'Thermal Vision' the lead track of his new 12" for Tempa. It's a perfect summary of its disorienting appeal: winding upwards through a tense opening, it abruptly explodes into a turbulent salvo of percussion. Its monstrous chunks of sound chop violently back and forth from speaker to speaker, assaulting dancers from all sides and broadsiding the senses, while sub-bass blasts upward from beneath. It's both alien and astonishingly intense, poised to detonate on dancefloors without ever resorting to stereotypical 'club banger' tricks. It's easy to hear why Proxima's tracks have become regulars in dubstep scene figurehead Youngsta's record bag.
*Based in Holland, Proxima, who released his first Tempa 12" Formal Junction in 2012 - originally started out making rough-edged, percussive drum & bass tracks. His move into dubstep has retained the latter's restless momentum, but slowing the tempo has allowed him more space to establish an angular, compulsive sense of groove.
*'Valve Wars' on the flip is harsher, all battery acid bass textures paired with woody percussive clicks and metallic snare taps. But there's a subtle, dubby ear for melody running through the whole track, discovering moments of unexpected beauty within the fray.

New Zealand's Truth - the duo of Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake - put an expansive, cinematic twist on the deeply rooted sounds of pure dubstep. Crushing bass pressure and all-pervading sensations of dread remain the hallmarks of their sound, but previous releases through Tempa, Deep Medi and Disfigured Dubz have also been steeped in soft-focus melody and meditative atmospheres. That's made them distinctive, glimmering highpoints in DJ sets by dubstep scene figurehead Youngsta, as well as the likes of Digital Mystikz and Hatcha.*Devil's Hands is the duo's second release for Tempa, following 2011's Dreams, and offers a pair of intricate, smoky and ocean-deep dancefloor riddims. 'Devil's Hands' plays off a delicious tension between sweet and sinister: beautiful, chiming melodies abruptly plunge downward into great chasms of sub-bass, with percussion stripped away to leave the fewest possible elements needed to make bodies move.

Berlin based Donnie Dubsons's long awaited two tracker Muted Horns / Silver Plate is finally being released on Fokuz Recordings.

Kicking off the EP, 'Muted Horns' is all about the floating liquid vibes. Crispy drums and chopped up vocals make this one a must have for all the liquid heads out there.

On the flip 'Silver Plate' takes things up a notch. The raging bassline combined with the musical chimes will light up any dancefloor. All in all both tracks are tasty little things, perfect for an original highlight to any liquid set.

Sigur Rós announce details of their new studio album. Titled 'Kveikur', the album is Sigur Rós' first since signing to XL Recordings worldwide.
'Kveikur' was self-produced by the three members of Sigur Rós: Jón .ór Birgisson, Georg Holm and Orri Páll Dýrason. As fans who've heard the new material performed on the band's current tour will testify, lead track 'Brennisteinn' marks a shift
towards a more direct, aggressive sound on the new album.

Part 3 of the album brings some serious dancefloor action. Trex's 'Bad Reaction' is a smasher! Reminiscent of oldskool Dj Hype & Twisted individual, this is great Jungle music. Grooverider's rewind track 2 weeks in a row on Radio one, keep an eye on this guy.Villem is one half of Mute (Mute & Mako) and has forthcoming releases on Symmetry to boot. 'Splinter in your mind' is one of the labels' favourites, great rolling drums, super low sub rolls & excellent production, yet another banger in the series! On "Moosebumps", we find two producers at the top of their game taking an unprecendented and unforeseen left turn, in pitch-perfect unison.

Muscovite Alexey Devyanin, having attained world renown as Pixelord via his "Fish Touch" EP (on the seminal wonky stable Error Broadcast), further consolidated this firm signature sound with the subsequent "Puzzles" and "Keramika" EPs. On "Moosebumps", however, he delves into territories only previously hinted at (on tracks such as "Equis"). Doing away with the bleeps, the beatsmith aesthetic, and the bombastic nature of his previous efforts, he crafts three works of restrained, focused beauty and diaphanous-yet-meaty sonics. "I Don't Need This", seemingly titled via its concept itself, has Alexey employing a bare minimum, and connecting the dots in straight lines. Every single sound on this track is alternately spotlighted, in dreamy, relaxed succession. "I'll Be There" marries Casio-like-beats, with balearic undertones, with Moby-esque vocal cuts, creating a definitive, yet innovative nod to the 90s. "Shining Inside" is a subtly-oriental, atmospheric and expedient take on future garage, punctuated by rare and effective sub-bass throbs. Production-wise, comparisons can be drawn to post-dubstep alumni such as Blake, Jamie xx, or Airhead, but in terms of songwriting, this is unmistakably Pixelord, allowing Infinite Machine the honor of proudly showcasing what is arguably his most mature work to date.

The second full-length from Los Angeles / London electro soul duo draws heavily on late 70's French library music, 80's Italo disco and sleng teng dancehall riddims. "LA MUSIQUE" pays homage to the beginnings of the digital realm via vintage gear. In full picture sleeve. 12 tracks

More Authentic Mod/R&B Scorchers From The Roots Of Northern Soul On Cool Affordable Reissue 45

The first in a series of remix 12" singles taken from UNA's "LAUGHING MAN" record. 4 remixes from CHARLES WEBSTER of "WE ARE THE LONELY": deep and dubby with UNA's hauntingly beautiful vocals featured. Check the "DEEP DUB" mix for some bangin' dancefloor action.

Beneath has been amassing support over this last year for his unique take on the 120-130 bpm tempo range with recent releases on Keysound and his own No Symbols imprint, as well as killer sets and mixes on The Boiler Room and beyond. Starting with a UK Funky inspired rhythmical backbone, Beneath moves things deep, dark, rolling and tribal with a sound palette that touches very much on the early aesthetic of dubstep circa 2003-2005. Tectonic is very pleased to welcome the young mysterious talent that is Beneath to the label with these two stone cold cuts. 'Duty' is pure sonic warfare condensed into 125 bpm and charged with system-punching weight. It builds slowly but moves with grace and percussive energy and - as always with Tectonic - plenty of gut-wrenching sub bass. It is dark and deadly in every way and highly recommended. 'Texers' continues the theme with a no-compromise approach and bags of attitude. The best way to describe these sounds are if you were to imagine a killer Roska track circa 2010, married with the soundscapes of a 2005-Youngsta DJ set, re-imagined for 2013. Future sound There's no such thing - this is one hundred per cent of the moment.

Inspired by Chicago's producers from the Dance Mania era, French Fries also lays down his own vocal freestyle of "Drums-Traxx"
across the EP.
The first part, 'Drums' uses an infectious acid bassline to cut through an overdriven Detroit inspired groove.
The flipside, "Traxx" is the result of a lengthy jam session with Chaos in the Cbd in French Fries' studio and uses the same sounds for
a different purpose. For this Chicago flavoured version, a 4x4 kick propels the groove accompanied by loose, pitched toms and
distorted hats
'Drums / Traxx' undoubtedly drips with old-school Detroit & Chicago House influence but as the impassioned vocal chant of the EP
title sprinkled across both tracks reinforces, it is not purporting to be anything but a sincere, superbly executed homage to a classic
era.

With a prolific career in the d'n'b and dubstep scene, MATT-U always keeps a unique mark, clear and recognizable, in his productions, getting the support of producers as Youngsta, N-Type, Skream and Benga.
After his releases for well respected labels as Black Box, Osiris, Subway, No.Mad is proud to announce his entrance in the Turin family.

This release comes from a real friendship with Matt-U born during some of our regular turinese gigs called 'Bratski Krug'. The better way to consolidate this friendship was to include in this release one of our best local dubstep producer: De Niro.

'Something About You' is maybe the most unusual track Matt-U has released in his career. Dreaming pads and pitched voices fused in a deep bassline. Future garage.. Dubstep.. Just don't care, in a properly No.Mad style. We loved this track and its power to draw the listener in a direct as simple oniric dimension.

On the B side, De Niro gives a more dancefloor interpretation with his remix, turning the whole tune into an unexpected new vision: dark and solid as usual, leaving now and then just the lights of the original one.

This was the best way to introduce the other tracks: 'Black Lodge' and 'Tuning'.This time Matt-U goes straight to the point spreading around the darkest vibes and the magnetic drum pattern with his classic and unmistakable imprint. As in 'Twin Peaks', the famous television series, we love thinking about two sides: white and black, connected under a red sign.

After the universally well received 'Under The Influence Vol.1' compiled by Red Greg and 'Vol.2' compiled by Paul Phillips ZR returns with 'Vol.3' this time compiled by James Glass.
James Glass grew up in London and was exposed to Top of the Pops and John Peel's venerable radio shows both of which turned him onto the fresh sounds of punk and new wave. His affinity for soul, jazz funk and disco, however came from listening to the rapidly growing pirate radio stations such as LWR and Horizon.
These influences were heightened further when he decided to move to New York in the late 80's, an area long associated with limitless possibilities for anyone with a passion for underground dance music. For the last 20 years though he's called the San Francisco Bay Area home where the rock/dance hybrid has once again captivated his ears.
During his time in San Francisco James Glass has been instrumental in helping to define the uniquely eclectic sounds of the early 90s's club scene. He provided a more soulful, grounded alternative to thump-thump rave beats and inadvertently exposed dancers to the origins of 90s club music. During these nascent years, he also travelled many times to Tokyo to play alongside Nick the Record at the seminal LifeForce parties, which influenced his high-quality approach to creating an epic dance floor experience.
His intricately assembled DJs sets are mixed with rare seventies soul, disco and early house-the gritty, raw sounds that inspire his production style and obsessive dedication to genuine music that has no expiration date.

Bunker I-III is an artefactual statement. The band TAP909 deals with this fact and creates some striking material in their live shows. The songs from this EP are taken from one of these indecent moments, which are radical, noisy and unscripted - searching for an answer between all these analogue machine sounds. An answer made out of technology which technology cannot give. Against the society of selfish dreamers and spine- less fools.
A: This is one of your ongoing nightmares, which is never-ending, taking you back to that horrible dream of sound and distortion. While listening, you will never expect that you can go home some days, but from moment to moment you will wake up in your past dream; only if you are lucky.
B: Step after step. Step after step. It leads you to a hypnotic condition. You will grow up in a toothless field and realizing that the end is close, you start to run but only to notice that you cannot get out of this. Afraid to fight you will see all the memories you have close, right in front of your eyes. It blows you away and the show is over but you are still alive and you don't know why.

Terror Danjah is an established artist, known for his incredible legacy of grime tracks, and DJ Champion is a younger producer who makes sub-heavy dread funky tracks which are heavily indebted to the sound that Terror helped create and develop. The 'Sons Of Anarchy' EP is the very fine result of their collaboration, featuring one track each by Terror and Champion, and two with them working together. Kicking off with Terror's 'Glide', the track builds up with ambient electronic birdsong, before a rough bassline punches a hole in the atmosphere, modulating and building and dipping in energy. The first of the collaborative tracks is 'Stone Island', which segues together Champion's sub-basslines and tough martial snares with Terror's ear for rhythmic details, fxs and breakdowns. 'Bowser's Castle' is Champion's solo track - a melodic sub-bassline bounces in a space around dancehall-like snares, guaranteed to get you making funny shapes on the dancefloor. 'Explode' is the second collaboration, mixing a ragga vocal, seasick rushing bongos and hard snares, balanced on a dread sub-bass and a daft p-funk riff ... an energetic mutant of a track with a wacky energy.

Following on from their killer contribution to the Dreamthief 2 LP, 'Halcyon Days', the dynamic duo, Hydro and Halogenix, deliver yet more unmistakable quality on Horizons with this ultra-deep 12.

Last year, Adrian Sherwood, artist, producer and founder of the legendary dub label On-U Sound, and Pinch, one of the freshest faces in dubstep and the man behind hits like "Qawwali', joined forces to reconstruct pieces of 'Survival & Resistance', Sherwood's first album in 6 years. Pinch's contribution to the 'Recovery Time' EP proved so successful that it has now led to the pair cementing an equal partnership - a brand new project that brings two seminal producers operating within different orbits of the bass and dub scene together. The first fruits of this studio collaboration can be heard on the killer 'On-U Sound vs. Tectonic' 12', which pairs up 'Bring Me Weed' with the 'Weed Psychosis Mix' - a vital melding of their two styles and an intriguing preview of more to come. After a stunning debut show at Sonar Tokyo, Sherwood & Pinch appear at Sonar Barcelona 14 June, Dour 20 July and NEOPOP 10 August.

With a reputation built on his original style and refusal to hop on any industry bandwagon, Ty is best known for his lyrical frankness and honest portrayals of everyday life, setting him aside from many mainstream hip hop acts and allowing him complete artistic independence. This has led to the release of four successful albums and a Mercury Prize nomination, among many high profile plaudits.
After gaining notoriety on the London underground scene Ty signed to Big Dada records in 2001, the same year his mighty debut album 'Awkward' was released. The union between the artist and label
saw a further two albums - 2003's Mercury-nominated 'Upwards' and 'Closer' (2006) - released over
five years.
Since his fourth solo album, 'Special Kind of Fool', was released in 2010 via BBE records, Ty has featured and collaborated with many artists stretching from America to France. Closer to home, Ty
features on a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, released in early 2012, and most recently recorded a track with former Radio 1 DJ and producer Kissy Sell Out.
A lifelong love of hip hop has seen the honest speaking South Londoner gain skills in sound
engineering and producing, the latter leading to work with Scratch Perverts, Talib Kweli, Blak Twang
and Arrested Development.

Ty is also known for his work as a spoken word artist. Earlier this year he was asked to perform
and host workshops for the British Council, which culminated in the conclusion of a 35 year halt
on international performers in the Sudanese town of Port Sudan. As well as this, his spoken
word efforts have seen Ty put in performances at The Big Chill Festival and The Royal Albert
Hall. Alongside his work with the British Council Ty is also a member of The HipHop Shakespeare
Company, running workshops with young people, showing the influences and works of Shakespeare
in today's music scene.

And there's more. Much more.... Building on the genre-busting pedigree they set with their last single 'Black & White', 'Future Perfect' is home to more electrifying bass fusion. 'Night Bus' is a new eleven track compilation by Melodica Recordings. Pulling in the work of a localised group of young producers from South London, this collection is the beginning of a series or releases from the label that focuses on specific neighbourhoods in London and beyond. 'First, the simple answer - It's an electronic music soundtrack that works rather well on that long, late night journey on the night bus. It's atmospheric, ethereal, ambient, modern music with just enough drive to get you home. It's music to help you stare out of the window and notice the little details that make the ride kind of special. It's music to take you there and help you feel like you are somewhere else.


Then, the more complicated one - 'Night Bus' is a collection of music made by a new generation of South-London based producers who work around the disadvantages of the current economic climate, resorting to computer programs and midi keyboards to create their musical exodus; who have grown up in the metropolis plugged into music on their mobiles, listening to Dubstep and Hip Hop and auto tune pop and the sound of the city itself; who have filtered all this through their software to nurture and create a new sound, a new feeling, a new C21 ambient that, sometimes unconsciously, draws on the spirit of the classic artists to create a new style. Honing his craft from his live-in studio above a South London public house, William Arcane weaves striking vocal leads through impeccable electronic production and sound design.

Having experimented for years, Permanence represents a young producer reaching maturity. William Arcane has created something incredible incorporating sounds found in London's clubs, streets and his own beautifully considered vocals.

Italian post rock and cosmic disco duo Crimea X have finished their second album, Another. It comes 2 years after their last effort, Prospective, and explores the same laidback yet spaced out sounds laced with intergalactic guitar riffs, wobbly pianos and skewed synth patterns that DJ Rocca (aka Lucca Roccatagliati, producer for Daniele Baldelli, Ajello and Dimitri From Paris's partner in the Erodiscotique project) and Jukka Reverberi (Giardini di Mirò) have championed since first getting together. In that time, the pair have become hugely admired cult figures in their respective worlds, pioneering sounds and garnering adoring support wherever they go. First singles from the album such as 'Yev' have already been doing the rounds, finding favour with musicos like Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, Justin Robertson and Tim Sweeney, whilst the album itself was produced by Norwegian legend Bjorn Torske who spent 10 days in the studio with the duo before returning home to mix it in Bergen.

Though you can hear the rootsy lovers feel THWIS is not a derivative dub record but a truly original reflection from one of Brooklyn's loved underground producers. THWIS follows in the footsteps of Olive's classic Bodega release and his work with New York's legendary electronic trio We™. There is little distortion on the bass and the kick is soft and warm making for a velvety sunrise vibe through out. The snare is surprisingly absent but then suddenly shows up like an old friend. Smokers Delight mixed with Boards of Canada mixed with Rhythm and Sound, THWIS puts its arm around your shoulder and walks you through the party with a calm inviting smile, making your body wander around the unicorn bass while the vintage analog synth tickles your head.

The SHIFTED FLOW 002 EP sees another diverse release from Matthew Burton & Kate Rathod. The five tracker also has a couple of collaborations. A2 sees Matthew team up with friend, tattooist, and lover of all things analog, Bangla Design (George from the island of Cyprus). While on the flip side b1 sees Matthew & Kate along side their favourite producer and old friend BLM. The whole EP is packed full of moody atmospheric textures and vibes which can be enjoyed at home spaced out or on a dark sweaty dance floor in equal measure.

Hafiza (INNOCENCE)is OLUGBENGA's debut release. Having built a following DJing at festivals and clubs worldwide, crafting remixes and producing mixtapes, OLUGBENGA's music draws on elements from techno, gospel and the claustrophobic soundscapes of post-rock.

As a producer, OLUGBENGA's work has seen him receive support on BBC 6Music from Lauren Laverne and a selection of BBC Radio 1 presenters including Rob Da Bank and Huw Stephens. The support has continued online, with press articles on Dazed Digital, Mixmag, Drowned In Sound, The Independent and a 'Track Of The Day' with Clash Magazine. There have been remixes for the likes of Alt-J and Esben And The Witch - all of this support arriving before he has officially released a signed piece of solo material.

Otherwise known as Olugbenga Adelekan and as bassist from the Mercury nominated band Metronomy, Hafiza (INNOCENCE) sees this artist creating unique and personal music electronic music with commercial sensibilities. What originally seem like vocal samples are in fact OLUGBENGA's own recordings pitched and edited in ways that span forlorn choruses to percussive melodies. Saw-wave synthesisers and huge bottom ends back up these three tracks, which feel equally at home in both the club and headphones.

'Candy Red'/'Hungry Horse' is Dro Carey's debut release for Hum + Buzz. This exciting newcomer from Sydney has already made quite an impression; he was named as one of the top ten producers to watch in 2011 by FACT Magazine and has already collaborated with the former Roll Deep member Trim.

A for Acid Jazz: GAZZARA , Their debut album 'One' (1996) featured the organist James Taylor (JTQ) as a special guest. B for Bossa: since their second album 'Grand Central Boogie' (1998) the band - originally from Rome, Italy - began a long journey into the brazilian sound of the 1960's. Their point of departure was a bossa nova cover of the Steely Dan classic 'Josie', also played live at the infamous Montreux Jazz Festival. H for House: following the third album 'The Spirit Of Summer' (2001) and a successful title track remix by Dave Warrin, GAZZARA became a name to remember on theinternational house music scene, being included in prestigious DJ charts (Masters At Work), highly successful compilations (Hotel Costes) and playing live in countries like Japan and Russia. L for Lounge: well-known HBO, TV serial 'Sex And The City' made extensive use of GAZZARA's instrumental lounge tracks in various episodes broadcasted around the world. Band leader Francesco Gazzara has also published a book titled 'Lounge Music'.

Jonas Schiefferdecker, known by the stage name of Joney, is an experimental multi-genre music producer, drummer and laptop musician from Hamburg, Germany. He took his first drum lessons at the age of five, and started playing in bands and orchestras by the time he attended high school. His musical influences range from the old jazz masters to the latest bass music producers. Since 2010, Joney has been releasing a broad variety of productions and remixes, ranging from jazz influenced drum and bass, to garage or glitch and trap influenced bass music, to house and techno club tunes. His close association to the Golden Pudel Club and the hanseatic crews named Eat The Beat and ill, both still gaining momentum with their involvement in any kind of underground activities, is seen as seal of quality by many of the cities punters. In December 2012 he released 'oh Allright' as the main title on Pudel Produkte 18 and a split single with Rampue on Audiolith as well as the digital 'illowhead' on Saturate!

From the quiet tropical suburban back streets of Australia's 3rd largest city (Brisbane) comes a young all instrumental ensemble called Kerbside Collection, creating a mixture of some forgotten rare groove sounds - good times instrumental jazz funk with a touch of soul.

Across his many projects past and present, it's under the moniker of L. Pierre that Aidan Moffat has perhaps best opened up the bare bones of his thirst for sonic exploration. The Island Come True is Moffat's fourth album as L. Pierre and is a work assembled from the vast cavern of his assembled field recordings and samples, a collage that works as a sonic patchwork of the 39 year-old's own mind. A popular lyrical raconteur whether as one half of Arab Strap, writing under his own name or when collaborating with Bill Wells - as on last year's Scottish Album Of The Year award winner Everything's Getting Older - it's as this carnation where the true extent of his musical eclecticism is revealed.

As such, the album is as a dreamscape, with fragments of classical works, drum samples, instructional speeches and, in a link back to his last album, recordings of nature. Electronics elements previously employed on past albums have been discarded, the album in its entirety consisting only of these found sounds.

The record is overridden by the hissing of tape tracks and drones, and there's good reason for that: 'there's something beautiful in hearing the grit and hiss of old recordings' professes the artist, who admits that he's even gone as far as adding and embellishing click tracks and surface noise. 'Everything sounds so clean and clinical and perfect today, but I love hearing something that sounds worn and suggests the music has a history. It's gorgeous and sad at once, as though it's lived a life and survived to tell the tale.' Sadness is a word that could readily be used to describe big sections of Island Come True, a fine line trodden between soothing warmth and bleaker depths throughout.

Previous albums under the Pierre guise had a specific mood or ambience that they attempted to portray; 2002's Hypnogogia, Moffat explains, was his own home-made comedown album, its 2005 follow-up Touchpool a warped take on lounge music, whilst third LP Dip represented something more physical, consisting largely of countryside recordings. With The Island Come True, though, the onus is on the listener's own imagination and not his; 'it's about taking the listener on a wee journey, but where that journey goes is entirely up to them' says Moffat. 'I wanted this one to be more suggestive and mysterious than the previous records.'

It's apt that such an otherworldly LP has been named after the title of the chapter in Peter Pan where they discover Neverland. Pan celebrates the power of the human imagination and its Island Come True's aim to do that too, the open-ended nature of the eleven sprawling constructions allowing listeners to take away their own interpretation of what exactly it is that the Scotsman is trying to evoke and achieve. Song titles, too, delve into the extraordinary, the surreal and, more often than not, the sinister; 'KAB 1340' is the name of the radio station being listened to in John Carpenter's The Fog, 'The Grief That Does Not Speak' is taken from a speech in Macbeth, 'Tulpa' is a Buddhist term for a physical object brought about purely by the power of the mind. Moffat admits that he thought he was done with L.Pierre after 2007's Dip, confessing that his sense of happiness with that record made him feel like he didn't need to revisit the project any further. It's a relief that he gained an urge to reprise it late last year. For all the wonderful work that he's put out in his various guises over the past 17 years, it is arguably as L.Pierre where he's at his most beguiling and unexplained, collecting and sculpting these pieces of aural history together for reasons that he never quite tells us. Such is the beauty of the project and of The Island Come True - it is for us to draw our conclusions upon.

An addendum of sorts to his recent 'Faint Hearted' album, Miles' returns with a half-hour EP of new material more squarely aimed at the floor with four darkened, robust variants.
'Blatant Statement' is up first, slowly emerging from a rough alignment of metallic percussion and abrasive stabs not a million miles removed from the kind of racket you'd most likely associate with Vatican Shadow, before the almost-clipped rub of those super-warm bass stabs shifts the perspective to a different kind of environment altogether.
'Technocracy' delivers an oozing House deconstruction, slowed down and inebriated, while 'Infinite Jest' revolves around an industrial cacophony harnessed into a rhythmic anomaly situated somewhere between technofied Pete Swanson and a sweaty Kassem Mosse. 'Plutocracy' ends the set with a bleached-out warehouse chug, slowed down and menacing, surrounded by a submerged choral arrangement and more of that toughened hammered-metal sound that runs through the EP.

The Blue Hammock is an Electronic Duo formed by Paolo Paolini and Giovanni De Rosa. Their Headquarters is in their Production Studio called 'Groove' in Terni (Abbruzzo), an important and named Place for Top Italian and International Music Productionas having hosted over the years Artists such as: Mario Biondi, Amy Stewart, Katia Ricciarelli, Ellade Bandini and Awa Lee. The Blue Hammock are an International focal point in the Chill Out / Lounge circuit. Their version of "With Or Without You" (U2) with 'Cellar 55', was the opening Track of the Radio Montecarlo produced
"New Classic" compilation. To follow, two of their other tracks were selected for two different Volumes of the world's most famous compilation of lounge and chill out music, 'Buddha Bar' (Volume 3 and volume 6). Many of their Productions were used as background music in many National Television Programs including: Crimini, Crimini 2, Amici, La Prova del Cuoco, etc. and some of their Productions would become thesoundtrack of many national and international companies, among them, the long collaboration with 'Giorgio Armani Corporation'

Bar the occasional remix, and of course the formation of Heterotic with his wife Lara Rix-Martin, who recently released their debut LP 'Love and Devotion', Mike Paradinas' µ-Ziq solo project has been quiet for a while. However, with XTEP, he makes a welcome return from hiatus and gives us a gentle taster for a forthcoming brand new µ-Ziq album due this summer. In stark contrast to a large percentage of his previous work, XTEP is joyous all the way through. The five compositions abandon the furrow-browed quest for cutting-edge exploration exchanging it for an altogether more carefree fun approach, with only the footwork-influenced Monj2 directly referencing any current electronic influences, however even on Monj2, the vintage sound palette dominates. Opening with the gorgeous XT; a smudged piano/moog melody recalls the abandon of 70s pop melodies before the composition falls out into airy arpeggiated funk with splashy drums. Ritm debuts with ravey piano and whistling synths, condensing early dance music tropes into a gauzy bitter-sweet haze. Pulsar is a perfect interpretation / tribute to late 70s electronic cosmic space-disco, gently nudged towards more modern dancefloors with pulsing electronics racing above robust kicks / claps. After the aforementioned Monj2, comes New Bimple which succinctly uses a short space of time, woody, swinging '2-step' drums and downcast piano melody, to bring the EP to a conclusion on a sadder, unresolved note. If one thing unites the approaches here it's a new-found sense of emotion transformed into sound with the skill of a truly seasoned innovator and soldier. Welcome back µ-Ziq!

Finland's baddest bassmakers make a triumphant return to Dubstep after a quiet year following the release of their critically acclaimed "We Are Lost EP". Recycling und reinterpreting musical styles like it's going out of fashion, Vesicle cause pure crossover mayhem at the highest level with their "Inconvenient Truth EP". The title track "Inconvenient Truth" - a bastard full-vocal Dubstep-Hiphop hybrid - is a collaboration with MC collective The Cyclops from Portland, USA and it mercilessly destroys all in its path with sledgehammer 808 kit work and trademark Vesicle bassline science. Continuing on the Hip Hop tip, cult classic "Cropkets" finally gets its well-deserved release, featuring insane vox-editing and more 808 sounds to delight the old-school crowd. "White Light" is simply one of the best, stripped-down, funk-tinted classic Dungeon tunes around, and "Rebellion" is full-on, smoked-out roots-dub fiyah for the real skankout massive. From their bass laboratory deep in the dark forests of Finland, Vesicle deliver the "Inconvenient Truth EP", yet another catchy, multi-faceted release that remains true to the underground while paying tribute to the roots of Dubstep, Hip Hop, Electro and a host of other musical influences.

Under the steer of Jesse Rose, Graeme Sinden and Chris Belsey, Loungin' Recordings's formative years were spent driving the broken-beat sound of postmillennial Notting Hill. With pioneering producers such as Domu and Dave 'Switch' Taylor mainstays on the roster, Loungin' steadily became the label most synonymous with the jazz-derived sub-genre.


Hailing from Rotterdam, C.O.N.E is a principal member of a collective of young producers making what's commonly tagged as 'Bruk-step': a sub-genre of grime that incorporates the percussive structure and production sensibilities of broken-beat. Having delivered two typically resounding remixes for Loungin' in the last 6 months, C.O.N.E now delivers a full artist EP for the West London-based imprint.


As an avid vinyl collector of Loungin's output in the early-2000s, the 4 tracks forming the 'Doppa' EP were purpose-made to reflect the influence Solid Groove's designs had on him in the early-2000s. Already aired on RINSE FM, the EP's weighty title track is supported by 'Pressure' - a more classic cut of percussion-heavy broken house. 'Reach' is deeper inclusion that feature's the vocals of Footsteppa Records affiliate Tink, before 'Ravi' completes the package in a fractured grid of dub-techno.

London based electronic marvel Kel McKeown - aka Kelpe - celebrates ten years of sonic boundary pushing with new maxi single, DRUT001/ 'Answered' - out April 15th - and new LP DRUT002/ 'Fourth: The Golden Eagle' - out June 3rd - both on his brand new label DRUT. Setting to work with a selection of analogue synths - Moog, Korg Polysix, Korg MS10 and Doepfer Dark Energy - the Ableton aficionado and purveyor of warped, cut 'n' spliced cliq-hop beats has delivered a handcrafted, 10-track masterpiece of an album which draws upon the strengths of his previous three. It's softer, warmer and more graceful than 2009's 'Cambio Wechsel', with a strong melodic element, and one which will secure his place in the canon of post-IDM greats. Kelpe says of the LP: 'On the whole, I was trying to make the warmest and most analogue sounding thing I've done, and I think it came out best on 'Answered'. The rest of the LP, in a way, is an extended build up to that favourite track on the record, which in itself was an opportunity to take leave of everything preceding it and go off on an epic trip.' Rollicking opener and curveball 'Astrolomy' brings to mind the mesmeric Anatolian guitar of 'After Gold' - a standout track on 'Cambio Wechsel' - swishing its tail to syncopated drum rolls as it dodges electro bolts-out-of-the-blue. It's followed by the lush, soulful, heavenly Baths-esque future pop of 'Beaks of Eagles' - with gloopy synths, hollowed beats and obfuscated crowd chatter - the kind of song that chillwave probably wanted to be, but never quite was. The shoegaze-ready 'Nice Eyes In My Size', with twinkles of xylophone and twisted, subtractive synths aping the guitar's wah-ing licks, is pursued and offset by the squelchy industrial clamour of ensuing track 'Single Stripe', which metamorphoses from techno to dream-pop in one fell swoop, glossed over with fade-out vocals and a denouement of synthetic steel drums.

South of Croydon raised Christian Sibthorpe (aka A1 Bassline) sent over a few things over the last 12 months that really had me paying attention. But it was Jessica (J. Phlip) ended up being the first one to drop "Falsehood" at the Spring dirtybird party in SF which pretty much sealed the deal. It just smashed the room to bits. Later on I met Christian in person when he helped me do a live radio show at Rinse FM in London along with Ben Westbeech and we agreed there that dirtybird would put these two tracks out.A1 claims to have been heavily influenced by early Metalheadz and you can really here it on these tunes. While "Buoyancy" is a smooth pulsing affair that really shines in the deeper mixes, "Falsehood" (which we are re-releasing from A1's Tighten Up label) really buries the hatched in your brain with bits and pieces of 808s, breaks and house hi-hats all forged together like hot iron.

4 drum titles to dig. Sounds intersting actually... Sober and dancefloor, with some orignal sounds and structures, all tunes are very different to each others, the vocal uses is never too mutch or too mellow.... A good record.
