Hailing from the Belgian capital of Brussels, Squeaky Lobster is known to his mother as Laurent and used to play bass in rock and jazz bands. Nowadays however you're more likely to find him pushing buttons on stage ensuring the system in turn pumps out his heady concoctions of chest-pummel- ling bass and skittering beats. Mind you having said that he can still be found playing bass in the band South of No North, who have released an album on Belgian label Humpty Dump- ty. Squeaky Lobster keeps things close to home having released all his material on another Belgian label, Vlek records, also based in Brussels. It is in fact on Vlek that Squeaky Lobster took flight (huhu, flying lobster) first with a split 7" along- side Russian producer Lapti - AMAI #2/4 - and in 2011 with a solo 10" release titled Will-O-The-Wisp EP.

The next release on UK imprint LNUK sees London producer Boxwork step up for his debut full release, a self-titled 4 track EP. Relatively unheard of until he gained early support from Rinse FM's Seb Chew and Mary Anne Hobbs on her landmark XFM show, the elusive Boxwork has been quietly gaining admirers since both started playing his music and invited him to record guest mixes for their shows last year.
A number of well received remixes followed, including for Greenmoney featuring Terri Walker, and a remix for Py & George Fitzgerald's 'Lungs' for her 'Tripping on Wisdom' Mixtape. 2012 saw him close out the year with a free release on Kerri Chandler's Madtech imprint alongside Cloaka, the tough as nails 'Toppin Up'. The Boxwork EP showcases the full range of the producer's talents. Across varying tempos Boxwork's unique sense of percussion and rhythm is bolstered by bass heavy grooves and clever sampling, a nod to his stated hip hop and soul influences. Four cuts of uncompromising dance floor music that work just as well in the headphones, The Boxwork EP announces the arrival of this young producer to the world with serious intent. Support from Hackman, South London Ordnance, Visionist, Jon Rust (Standard Place), Mary Anne Hobbs.

erverse have been New Zealand's finest bass exports since the all-conquering Truth crew, and the staggering quality of their smoked out, eyes down dubstep beats is a reflection of the breadth of new talent to be found lurking on Kiwi shores. One NZ based label has also come to the forefront in 2012 with a clutch of razor sharp releases and it's only right that Innamind Recordings' inaugural vinyl release features a link up with the Perverse lads; an exclusively home-grown affair delivering two of the freshest cuts of sub-frequency superiority to hit the shelves this year.IMRV001 features a pair of equally devastating explorations of space, bass and weight. In a break from the norm, the A side Cross Examination features the distinctive lyrical deviance of the Hench recordings affiliated Beezy, whose cold and calculated vocal projections ride sinisterly above cavernous waves of taut subs. As Beezy's verses interweave with the darting, sparse drum incisions, you get drawn deeper and deeper into a bass-induced stupor; hypnotising stuff and the highest of production values.On the flip, Perverse have concocted a technoid stepper as dark as its namesake, Obsidian, which pulses malevolently with rapid fire salvos of staccato kick drums dictating the track's movement and direction. Contorted swirls of cinematic ambience and jagged synths create an all-enveloping soundscape, underpinned by a pulsing bass element designed to push a soundsystem's low end response to the limit.
It's a certified banger of a debut release and has garnered DJ support from various scene luminaries including Youngsta, Kryptic Minds, Cyrus, Biome and J:Kenzo.

RUFFHOUSE is a collective consisting of PESSIMIST, VEGA and COOPER. The trio decided to join forces at the start of 2012 and have since been gaining support from some of the major players in the Drum and Bass scene including Loxy, dBridge, Doc Scott and Skeptical. With a distinct and recognisable sound, Ruffhouse are bridging the gap between the modern and the old, the deep and the dark. The lads first met 3 years ago, at Vega's bi-monthly event 'Abstractions' in Bristol, quickly realising their shared passion for similar styles of music. From there, collaborations and experimenting in the studio together has led to the development of what we now know as Ruffhouse. "Basically we had all been toying with the idea of starting a production crew as we are all influenced drum and bass wise by people like The Horsemen (Loxy, Keaton, Dylan & Ink), Bad Company and Vicious Circle. The thing we liked about those guys was the whole unity and crew vibe that they all had." Pellet and Classified is the first vinyl release for promising Bristol based trio, both tracks featuring heavily in the sets of Loxy, dBridge, Doc Scott and Skeptical.

Following the hugely successful independent release of 'Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites', electronic visionary, Skrillex, released his follow up EP, 'More Monsters and Sprites' through Big Beat/Asylum Records. It is now available for the first time on 12 vinyl.

Starkey's 3rd studio album Orbits album out 26th Nov includes Command single, out 12th Nov Orbits is the latest thrilling installment in Starkey's 'street bass' odyssey. The Philly producer draws on grime, hip-hop, electro, bass music and beyond to blast off with his most accomplished and fully realized album yet. Starkey's intricately crafted, sci-fi inspired tracks escape the intro-drop-breakdown-drop formula of most dance music thanks to a more expansive, ambitious approach. Epic opener Renegade Starship paves the way for the heavy-hitting Command, which, along with remixes by Plastician, Drums Of Death and others, will be released as a lead single. The album continues to straddle straight club tracks (see The Shuttle, Dystopia) and more ambient offerings (Crashing Sphere, Synchronize) throughout. Huge drums, Southern rap style high hats and Vangelis-like fizzing synths are deployed to dramatic effect, and the energy and aggression of grime pervade the record. Starkey - real name Paul Geissinger, and PJ to friends - has carved out a unique space in electronic music. His explorations in the unnamed airspace between grime and dubstep have earned respect from both camps, despite them being predominately British pursuits and Starkey being an American outsider whose music isn't solely confined to either genre. Starkey released his debut album 2008s 'Ephemeral Exhibits' and this sophomore, 2010s 'Ear Drums and Black Holes', on the Planet Mu Label. Both received critical acclaim and showcased his unique take on Grime and Bass music. He subsequently released the 'Space Traitor' series (Vol.1 & Vol.2) on Civil Music and his genre spanning 'Open the Pod Bay Doors EP' on Ninja Tune. Starkey's music brims with big synths and bigger drums. Hard-edged hip-hop and scything bass mix, at times, mix with almost classical compositions and element, but it's Grime that remains at the forefront of his sound, ever more so on 'Orbits'Since his last album Starkey has been doing production work for Tinie Tempah and Foreign Beggars, worked with Kosheen's Sian Evans, collaborated with Pop princess Charli XCX on single 'Lost in Space' and released several collaborations with one time Roll Deep member Trim. Album track and lead single 'Command' also gets the Trim treatment appearing as 'Light Years' featuring on the MC's collaboration release with Roachee, 'The Nangesst EP' which is out now. P Money, Badness, Durrty Goodz, Kozzie and Merky Ace have also manned the mics for Starkey on releases for 'No Hats No Hoods' & 'Keysound' amongst others. These collabs sit in his extensive catalog of releases which also includes wax for Werk Discs, Lo Dubs, Rwina and more.Oribits is released by Civil Music on 26th Nov on 2×12' vinyl, CD and digital download and features UV gloss spot artwork by Pete Hawkes.

Soul Jazz Records/Universal Sound are releasing 'Soul Translation: A Spiritual Suite" a superb lost USA deep jazz independent private-press album originally self-published by Donald Alexander Strachan and the Freedom Ensemble on Triad Music Concepts in 1975.
This great soulful/spiritual jazz album was the only album that Strachan released and consequently has become a rarity! It is a must for fans of Tribe, Strata-East and other conscious jazz from the 1970s and features in Gilles Peterson/Soul Jazz Records' Freedom, Rhythm and Sound book.
Donald Alexander Strachan is composer, conductor, guitarist, vocalist and more leading a large 11-piece line-up that includes Jay Hoggard on vibes.
Composer/writer/filmmaker Strachan studied in New York City in the 1970s composer/saxophonist Sam Rivers and Ghanaian Drum-master Abraham Adzenyah as well as avant-garde guitarist/composer Bruce Johnson all of who helped shape his unique sound.
In the 1980s Strachan was a short spell writing music for artists on Def Jam Record before entering into the collaborative world of cinema by composing musical scores and has been involved in cinema ever since both musically, as a scriptwriter and director. Donald Alexander Strachan and the Freedom Ensemble's 'Soul Translation: A Spiritual Suite" is a unique product of Strachan's multicultural and African-American heritage and aesthetic - polyrhythmically complex and spiritually intense.

*Nitri ignites proceedings with stealth-like prowess. Opening with a series of infectious clicks and whirrs, his engine purrs with a pensive funk that isn't realised fully until the delicious vocal and bassline bounce kick in. The epitome of a contemporary roller, this stripped back groove attack has been a highlight of Andy C's sets for the past few months, causing major commotions amongst both the raving crew and fellow DJs whenever he drops it.
*Audio & Meth follow. And they do so with an almighty switch-flip. Hot on the heels of their monstrous 'Gamma' on Audio's latest album 'Soul Magnet', the duo continue to strut their heavyweight co-lab stuff with 'Alone'. Drenched in drama and grizzling bass tears, 'Alone' opens with a cavalcade of haunting horns before dropping into an all-out filth workout. Spitting snub-nosed sonics, it's like the late 90s all over again... But with production skills our last-century D&B forefathers could only dream of.
*Up next: Eastcolors who's served up a track that's in grave danger of literally living up to its title. 'Murderer' harbours a bassline so deadly it could bump your dancefloor to death with its endless mutations and manipulations. Sprung with a fine-tuned funk and arranged with dynamite dynamics, this is one murder case all dancefloor detectives want to solve.
*It's down to Paul B to bring this speaker-smashing set to a fitting conclusion. A dab-hand at this D&B game since the turn of the century, 'Drop By Drop' shows just why the Russian artist is widely regarded as 'the producer's producer'. A funky fusion of minimal and electro and classical reference points, it's a roller that just keeps on giving on every listen. Simple but outrageously effective, it's an exemplary lesson in how to make a nagging hook.

Every so often a producer comes through and changes the game a little; crafting new dimensions and sonic pathways within sounds that leave them operating in a league of their own when it comes to originality. For many within Dubstep circles, from DJs and
producers to the listeners and heads on the dancefloor at the receiving end of his sub-driven beats, Gantz is that breath of fresh air with the inherent creative instinct to deviate from the same played-out formulas and boilerplates. Meticulously assembling tracks from his lab in Istanbul, Gantz gains heightened prominence with each release and this February sees him return to Innamind Recordings to further stake his claim as one of the circuit's most engaging talents.
A label progressing on a similarly meteoric trajectory to Gantz, Innamind were perhaps one of the most successful emergent imprints of 2012, providing a platform for an exciting stable of like-minded artists to release music with real longevity, culminating with a pair of full vinyl transmissions from Kiwi dons Perverse and latterly Catacombs. Forging the perfect partnership, Gantz and Innamind team
up for the label's third vinyl instalment featuring 'Siyam' and 'Enso', a killer double header that will assault soundsystems from London to Christchurch, forming a statement of intent for the quality in store this year. As with many of Gantz's productions, focus is
immediately drawn to the probing and detailed percussive arrangements that dart and weave unpredictably through the mix. The bassline on 'Siyam' is like an unstoppable current of pent up Jungle energy, propelling the track with tumbling slabs of pure bassweight beneath persistent war drums and neon rave sirens. It's reminiscent of the golden age of Skull Disco material but reinterpreted, updated and retrofitted with Gantz's inimitable aesthetic signature. In an equally leftfield vein as 'Siyam', 'Enso' has
decidedly macabre edge as the intro's discordant synths ring out intermittently like an alarm, as if to warn of the sheer impact to come. As the main section breaks, enveloping waves of sub-frequency undulate with tidal-force, pierced by stuttering woodblocks and snares that reverberate like gunshots. The atmosphere is tense and unforgiving, littered with quaint gasps of vocals; a truly
unique darkside monster that chills you to the core.

The newest installment in our NSWL series sees us borrow two brand new tracks from the forthcoming Night Slugs Allstars Volume 2 compilation, cut to glorious 12" vinyl (with love and care as always by Precise Mastering). Two highly melodic, colourful R&B/Hip Hop instrumentals dripping with Slugs flavour.

On side A, the unstoppable GIRL UNIT expands on his gloopy, warehouse-sized rap beat "Double Take". Teasingly previewed in the outro of "Double Take Part 1" from his "Club Rez" EP earlier this year, now Girl Unit finally lets us have "Part 2" in all its bittersweet glory. The drums and FX of the original are deployed this time over deep analog bass, gorgeous layers of synth melody, DX7 bells and flanged toms borrowed straight from Prince. Few others could pull it off with such charisma.

On the flip, new NS signing, Kansas-based MORRI$ gives us "White Hood". Already sounding super confident, the young producer has cultivated a style that mixes subtle but powerful influences from Southern rap with highly melodic layered instrumentation and organic percussion. "White Hood" is driven by an irresistible accordion hook, framed by skittering hi hats, snare rolls and a massive 808 undercarriage.

Having mixed both sides of this release, NS executive producer BOK BOK takes the opportunity to strip down "White Hood" and pass its bare essentials through some lovely analog gear on the bonus cut, his "Accordian Dub". Listen to that chorus sing!

Kartel is pleased to announce a debut release for Civil Music by Chicago's genre-bending dubstep mixmaster, Ital Tek. Following on from his third Planet Mu album release in November and a raft of packed-out US dates, and foreshadowing a UK/European tour, this upcoming 12" highlights the artist's direction for 2013's more knowledgeable dancefloors.

On the flip 'Open Your Eyes' brings the deepnes, definitely stuff to get down to! The combination of swiping drums, a dynamic but round sounding bassline and floating vocals work really well together, it rounds things off in style perfectly.

Razor Rekta has proved to be a serious addition to the Chestplate team, bringing a new dimension with his unruly, dread-inducing signature sound. The London-based producer has a hefty collection of fresh dubplates ready to cause damage, and a couple of killer beats were dropped on his debut Chestplate record, 'Loko-Motiv' and 'Development'.This December sees more heat-tempered firepower released on 12', with the speaker stack-rupturing 'Bang Ya Door' on the A-side, and no-nonsense brute force of 'Kickstart' on the flip. The whole Chestplate gang, Icicle, Youngsta and J:Kenzo have been testing these ones out in the clubs and they deliver the expected levels of clean, taut bassweight pressure.'Bang Ya Door' carves out a tense, sinister atmosphere that's pierced with crisp, swaying 808 snares, lurching groans of expertly engineered mid-range and deep swells of pure low-end; dark industrial beats made with razor-sharp precision. 'Kickstart' moves with swinging, powerful kick snare combos, with pads building the tension before delivering the knockout blow. The subs underpin the track with an earth-moving rumble of earthquake proportions as tribal patters of percussion and thrashing Reece synths penetrate from deep in the mix.As per usual, another track is available direct from the Surus store - 'Taurus', one of the highlights of Razor's Fabriclive Promo mix from earlier in the year.

Given that Tempa have now reached the landmark tenth edition in their scene-defining Dubstep Allstars series, it makes perfect sense that they've invited Plastician, one of the genre's pioneers, to contribute.

"I wanted to pick tunes that I thought were proper traditional dubstep," says Plastician of his selection for this mix. "The word dubstep means different things now, so I just wanted to do a mix that I can say 100% I think that all these tracks are dubstep, or not far from it. It's as close to a pure dubstep mix as I could be, without doing an old school mix. So it's trying to keep it fresh, with all current stuff, but with an old head on my shoulders."

Near the start of last decade Plastician, alongside the likes of Skream, Benga and Artwork, was among the small group of producers twisting garage into dark and skeletal shapes, creating what would eventually be called dubstep. So it makes sense that, in keeping with his own past, Plastician's Dubstep Allstars Vol 10 flirts with the rawer and rougher sides of dubstep: synths roar like police sirens, sub-bass scorches everything it touches, and percussion is taut and driven by flurries of conga hits. MCs - Doctor, Merky Ace, Newham Generals' Footsie - lend a languid flow to wrenching beats by J:Kenzo and Cato, drawing connections to Plastician's equally strong roots in grime.

"In my normal sets I'd play all sorts - grime, or basically anything that I can mix in that has a bit of bass in it, really," he says. "So I obviously wanted to put my stamp on it as well, I didn't want people to pick it up and say 'this doesn't sound like a Plastician mix'."

But there's a defined narrative arc to Dubstep Allstars Vol. 10, too, in the way it blossoms from a brisk and percussive opening section into a roaring and ravey middle, before gradually drifting away into a meditative and melody-soaked final third. It all draws together into a mix that's equal parts dread, aggression and immersion.

The intro of Abcess sounds like you've just entered the realm of the Wicked, where the listener gets confronted with a serious amount of evil soundscapes and an intense drop. Here it's all about the massive drumwork in combination with the impressive percussion involved, creating a serious rhythm together. The low-end is heavy, containing nice variations in depth and patterning. Morphing
aggressive growls take over the mix along with some repetitive stabs to create a great amount of heat. Widowmaker's timing is
perfect, implementing necessary breaks to add an extra punch to certain parts of the track. Just amazing to hear how this track
develops into a technical roller with such power - excellent track."

While a series of projects are slated for release under the Dirt Tech Reck banner, the first is the Electric Street Orchestra. Its inspiration is from those who are called street people. Forgotten people from a forgotten city. It's also steeped in the Detroit tradition of ignoring the notion of genre and taking a broad range of elements and inspiration to create something that is both new and familiar. Bringing together a constellation of Detroit's sonic masters. DTR-01 takes UR's Mad Mike and Agent Chaos, house music king Theo Parrish, hip hop/house percussionist Dez Andres, and rock/funk master guitarist Duminie Deporres, and joins them through the lens of Jeedo's vision of the future.

Two years and 13 releases since its first installment, Night Slugs present the second volume of our Allstars compilation series. To be released on CD and digital, it's a consolidation of our activity during 2011-2012 as well as a glimpse into some of what's lined up for 2013.

That Allstars Vol 2 plays more as an album and less like a compilation, despite its various contributing artists' diverse styles, is testament to the gradual collective process of evolution that we have been undergoing since the label's inception in early 20

Allstars 2 charts Night Slugs' move away from the early-digital world in which our music spent its infancy, and into a more developed, more textured universe.

Proceedings open with the "Street Mix" of L-Vis 1990's 2011 single "Lost In Love", a collaborative rework by Jam City, Bok Bok and L-Vis himself, that sets the tone for what's to come: a combination of emotionally-charged intimate zones and agile, austere workouts of drums and bass that permeates this release. Many of the songs here can be considered trax, love songs, pop songs all at once, because we believe club music can be no less than all those things.

Allstars Vol 2 traverses many territories, from Girl Unit's replicant Latin Freestyle on "Ensemble", Lil Silva's percussive half-time banger "The 3rd", the dread-vogue of Kingdom's "Stalker Ha" to the uniquely warm stadium-size Club of Jam City's "How We Relate To The Body", exuberant carnival techno on Helix's "Drum Track" (seeing digital release here for the first time) and the chrome-plated modern grime classic that is Bok Bok's original mix of "Silo Pass". Yet the threads that link these apparently disparate tracks together far outweigh their differences and make for an immersive long-playing experience.

Night Slugs is about looking simultaneously forwards and backwards, and so Allstars Vol 2 debuts several brand new tracks. L-Vis 1990 contributes "Not Mad" from his forthcoming Ballads EP - a spacious workout of high-tech funk, laserbeam disco synth stabs, huge electric bass and claps on the one. Kingdom gives us "Bank Head", a club track in suspended animation that slowly unfurls, snap percussion and rolling bass bathed in a golden pad chorus. Egyptrixx gives a hint of the direction of his 2nd LP on the seismic deconstructionist, no-kickdrum techno of "Adult". Girl Unit expands the much-discussed outro of his warehouse-filling rap beat "Double Take" into a fully-fledged song of its own on "Double Take Part 2", with anthemic results. Finally, newest Night Slugs recruit, Kansas City's Morri$ contributes "White Hood", marrying the skittering 808s of Southern rap with sumptuous layers of melody that bring Allstars 2 to a fittingly epic close.

Uncanny Valley introduces the next artist from the UV010 compilation with his solo debut. This time it's Scherbe and his 'Jardin Du Midi-EP'. And what he delivers is pure Deep House goodness. First of all, 'College Dropout' makes clear that a lashing snare can never be wrong. With that infectious xylophone loop and slightly devilish strings dropping out of college doesn't sound like the worst option. 'Arts Is Movin Butts' fulfils what the name suggests. Even though those butts have to move very skilfully while dancing to such a lurching rhythm. 'Jardin du Midi' is another perfect example that it sometimes just needs a catchy house beat and masterful sample work. Combining such a wonderful vocal snippet and those typical railway drums is Scherbe to the core. 'Endlezz Cinema' on the other hand is an absolute earwig. The bass line won't leave your head for quite a while. Lovely strings and folky background guitars help to keep the magic. The Radioactive Orchestra is a 'scientific musical translator' based on our current knowledge of the structure of atomic nuclei in nuclear physics. Using the Radioactive Orchestra, we can create melodies and rhythmic patterns that are based on the nuclear energy levels and gamma radiation observed in experiments at accelerator laboratories around the world. Radioactive Orchestra Remixed is the result of a competition held by Studio Barnhus, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and KSU. Using Radioactive Orchestra's online music composer, contestants were able to submit their own compositions. The two winning contributions, by The ZZZZZ and Abdulla Rashim, have been remixed by Âme and Jonsson/Alter.

Darkstar first coalesced in the underground, electronic thrum of London's nascent grime and dubstep sphere in the mid 2000s, growing from attending the now-fabled early FWD club nights to releasing a pair of game-changing 12' singles on Kode 9's fledgling Hyperdub label. What followed was a fitful and productive period culminating in a discarded album's worth of tracks, the crucial introduction of vocalist James Buttery to the fold and, finally, the release of their debut full-length 'North', to wide acclaim. By this time Darkstar had aptly been framed as a very intriguing proposition, one of the first proper 'bands' to rise from the UK's current electronic underground.
The band decamped to a house in the West Yorkshire countryside, secluding themselves from the distractions of London and writing as a trio for the first time. Ultimately, 'News From Nowhere' is a reflection of the time they spent together there. Says Young, 'Every place warrants a story. There are moments in people's everyday lives, no matter how subtle, that can be documented and talked about in great detail. The instances spiral and ascend and take on their own course, altering the perception of how even the slightest change in a day can be felt deeply.'
Eventually proceedings moved from the band's makeshift digital studio in their house to producer Richard Formby's (Sonic Boom / Hood / Wild Beasts) dusty studio enclave, full of tape machines and analogue synthesizers. The songs that had been inspired by English prog rock and obscure techno and created as loops based on the band's affinity for hip hop production ('literally everything from Lex Luger to Geoff Barrow') grew into sublimely arranged works. In the end, the album arrived at an altogether singular existence, delving into the moments between moments and elevating them to epic, kaleidoscopic heights

ADO are a live collective from Birmingham, UK who were set up in November 2010 as a resident new experimental collective at Birmingham's Hare and Hounds. Anex is a name that has been buzzing around the Deep Heads pages for quite some time now and his music has had some greatcomments and some hefty plays. His debut on Deep Heads is a well rounded EP that is precisely engineered masterfully arranged. "Phobic" is one for the bass heads and the subs and midrange punch through the beats with an almightily whack! Then "Bella" and "Shine" are both perfect B side tracks that hears Anex lay down some 2 step, percussive beats with lush pads sitting perfectly on the arraignment.

Elson David is the joint venture of London's Duct and Owen Howells, two of Shades of Grey Recordings' co-founders. Their first EP, a
three-tracker of techy, acid-laced house with tongue-in-cheek nods to UK raving past and present is released on 21st January 2013.
The collaboration was born of their shared love of acid house and rave culture, and the desire to do something a bit different to their
solo work. Both bring considerable talents to bear; Duct's classical training and detailed craftsmanship, and Owen's idiosyncratic
grooves and dancefloor focus combine in unexpected ways to produce something that sounds like neither and both.
This makes for a storming 8th release on Shades: opener 'God Bless' sets out their stall in no uncertain terms, with wiggly 303s and
deft samplework building into a surefooted hybrid bubbler which owes as much to UKG as its acid house forebears. Yet follower 'The
Awakening' will be the highlight for many: with an irresistable disco-inflected groove built from chunky beats, vocal refrains and
acidified riffs on the classic 'Rapper's Delight' bassline, it's sure to blow up dancefloors everywhere. On the flip, 'Woke' is one for the
heads; a full-on acid workout that takes no prisoners for the duration.
Awakening forms the eighth release on Shades of Grey; an imprint set up by Duct , Fybe:one and Owen Howells, and dedicated to
showcasing the best emerging talent in the UK scene.

French Fries delivers two originals on the cutting edge of modern bass. "Space Alarm" is right up in your face but artfully holds back right when you think it will go over the top. The inside "Smoke Wine" is more in the vein of last years smash "Yo Vogue," yet more understated and deep which is rare for the genre. When I play these at the right time they always solicit an audible "ooooh" from the
crowd at thedrops.
Remix #1 is by Justin Martin who really blows it up dirtybird style with almost a breakbeat old school electro beat. Remix #2 is by dirtybird newcomers GoldFFinch via Belgium who also deliver a really funk laden club version. Both remixes are ace and t e full release brings a very fresh sound to the label.

DSCI4's latest LP offering 'Final Chapter', is, sadly, the final chapter in the label's history. Founded back at the turn of the century by the legendary DJ Trace it became one of the standard bearers for the 'Techstep' sound in drum and bass with an enviable discography, including the revered 'Spy Technologies' series of compilations, as well as helping to bring through now household

WNCL Recordings and Kevin McPhee have spent many a moon discussing a shared love of Mood II Swing, dubplate culture and Bobby Champs amongst other things. In between times, the Canadian young-gun has been honing 4 tracks to present WNCL012 a finely crafted Extended Play in which McPhee gets his clonk on, in keeping with WNCL's hard jacking groove tendencies McPhee produces four slices of brick hard house that you'll be hard pressed to even try and overlook.Sonic Router

Kuhn's sophomore effort for Civil Music, Kings EP is a collection of four diverse uptempo club tracks with an eclectic sampling palette and Footwork-inspired rhythmic complexities.
"I Quit," featuring Astro Nautico brother in arms and LuckyMe contributor Obey City, flips a glittery pitched-up soul loop into an 808- fuelled dance floor workout with insistent vocal mantras and a jumpy kick drum rhythm. "NWYRK" grabs horns from Cuban Carnival music and places them over an off-kilter tom shuffle. "Boombox" merges hyper-pitched rave stabs, quaking sub kicks and sultry female vocal cutups to form a halftime beat before flipping into a hyperspeed finale. Finally, "Never Forget" carves massive choral samples into a manic haze with added hyperactive kick drums and lightning trap fills.
The EP includes remixes of 'I Quit' by Muscovite Pixelord and Atlanta's Time Wharp. The former a warm laid back exercise in Russian Juke and the latter a smooth yet jacking kick lead house heater.
Kuhn's sound is raw, energetic and individual. It's the work of 23 year old Brooklyn-based / Long Island native Bennett Kuhn. His long sold out debut EP Slime Beach was released on Civil Music almost a year to the day prior and received support from a diverse crowd
of tastemakers including Claude Von Stroke, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ramadanman, Untold and A-Trak.
Kuhn is irrepressibly linked to Astro Nautico, the Brooklyn-based label/blog/party collective co-founded in 2009 by Kuhn along with
Obey City and Paulo Xz. Astro's now infamous parties at FreeCandy have attracted global attention including a report from BBC Radio 1's Benji B. Astro Nautico affiliates include; Howse, Space Ghost, Moist Ghost, RAJA, Time Wharp, Young Montana, Dreams,
The Range, Baauer, Djemba Djemba, Zackey Funk Force, Abel and many more.
The Kings EP pays homage to the Kings district of Brooklyn. The photography and artwork (which is also by Kuhn) show a Kings
skyline and the Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower.

Short Stories is a collaboration between Welsh producer Koreless and London based Sampha.
Forging a friendship playing Young Turks parties in the summer of 2010, they came together in the space that was later the writing room for The xx's second album. In this cavernous Dalston studio, they spent 2 days with a vast array of synths, drum machines and other instruments, exploring a new sonic palette and learning about each other's process for creating music.
Two cold damp days later they emerged with the playful first chapter of their alliance; 'On The Way' and 'Let It Go'.

Taiki and Nulight or to there Friends 'Rowan Harrington' and 'Erka Chinbayer' have both been Dj-ing/producing for many years both in very different circles. Taiki's Career started back in 2008 under his old alias name Site 1 who was a house/electro producer. They
Joined Forces and started working together in 2011 which now seems like a lifetime ago considering on what they have achieved in such a short time. When they first started out working together they were making a lot of Dubstep, House and Electro influenced bass
music as we call it now. Being heavily into Garage, House and Electronic Dance Music there sound Heavily progressed across the spectrum of Dance Music.
Taiki and Nulight released there first EP in February 2012 on Subway Recordings which gained a lot of support from the likes of Mistajam, Crookers, Herve Zinc, Redlight, Foamo, Roska, Benga, Skream, Adam F, Hatcha, N Type and More. Gaining them a lot of
Frequent airtime on BBC Radio 1, 1XTRA, KISS 100 and Rinse Fm.
Now Nearly a Year and a half since they have joined forces, they have received massive support from some of the most respected
DJS out there not to mention Air time nearly every week on Radio 1 and Kiss 100. Remixes for the likes of Herve, Alt J, Benga, Audrey
napoleon and more to come.

Since its inception in 2001, each entry in the POP AMBIENT series has included its year of conception in its title, an irony in the fact that many consider the music being timeless in more than one way: a feel-good classic to some, a rigorous experiment to others, POP AMBIENT always has located itself between the poles of habitual listening and sonic curiosity, with the space in-between beats being a way more interesting material than the beat itself. As in the years before, POP AMBIENT 2013 collects an illustrious cast of producers uniting genre pioneers alongside old friends and some surprising new arrivals.


LEANDRO FRESCO certainly is a long-standing contributor to the series, which is why he gets to kick off Pop Ambient 2013 in wonderfully lyrical fashion with the 'tears of the morning sun' in CUANDO EL SOL GRITA LA MANANA, an awakening track that tries to rub the sleep out of its eyes while it blinks at outer space. A rather unusual suspect is introduced with MICHAEL MAYER, who - just like Superpitcher in 2012 - delivers his Pop Ambient debut: originally, SULLY was the congenial opening track for the highly praised 'Mantasy' full-length, but evolves in the remix of Pop Ambient curator WOLFGANG VOIGT who nevertheless manages to keep the distinctive texture intact and brings a GAS-eous vibe into the original.


Already a Pop Ambient staple under his Popnoname monicker, JENS-UWE BEYER contributes a concrete hymn with DEUTZ AIR 2, while Jörg Burger aka TRIOLA pays tribute to French director and co-founder of Poetic Realism JEAN VIGO, exploring the limits between synthetic and 'natural' sounds. MARSEN JULES returns with POINT OF NO RETURN, an impressive track seemingly illustrating glaciers trembling under the weight of a giant's foot, whereas MIKKEL METAL puts the music under a burning glass in his intensely focused RECOMBINATION, not without spotting a hint of a beat in its steady pulse. ANTON KUBIKOV, also known as SCSI-9, follows up with AMBIANOPOLIS, where he has a wailing piano telling the story of legendary cities engulfed by the sea.


WOLFGANG VOIGT's iterative project RÜCKVERZAUBERUNG sees its seventh embodiment on Pop Ambient 2013: still swimming upstream, these sounds reveal not so much a painting musician or vice versa, but a hidden sculptor carving the arrangement out of his samples. The result is massively sensual abstraction between harmony and dissonance. A penultimate offering comes with LEANDRO FRESCO's second contribution to Pop Ambient 2013, the masterful EL CRUCE IMPOSIBLE, where a haunting drone resolves in painfully beautiful chords, followed by the new project by Jörg Burger and Matias Aguayo TERRAPIN
