The Stuttgart-based breaks label "Lucky Break" has already released tracks from internationally acclaimed artists like Shut Up And Dance, Plaza de Funk, I.D. and B-Phreak. Thus it is not surprising that the original track of the label's seventh release, namely "Tell U Something", is contributed by no other than DJ Mutiny, who delivers a funky, fresh and pushing breakbeat-stomper with an oriental music sample that makes the tune unique, irresistible and a potential hit at the same time. Afghan Headspin turned the original into a squeeky-bleepy breaks-step bomb, and the two label owners Jack Stat transformed the original into a heavy breaks/dubstep-in-betweener.

Having spent a good 3 or 4 years nurturing a penchant for privately pressed ethnic folk music in an attempt to construct a 3rd volume of his acclaimed Folk Is Not A Four Letter Word series Votel had a virtual polarity change. It took a gradual weaning period via a refresher course of European Library music and a total overhaul of his own unkempt collection of several thousand LPs of obtuse and delectable cosmic pop LPs to finally re-find his Mojo, resulting in a switch-mission and a couple of conceptual re-hab sessions at his B-music residency at Manchester's Dulcimer Bar under the advertised name Vintage Voltage. Within a few weeks Votel was back on his travels with a brand new bag.

The Vintage Voltage Mixtape bears some of the first fruit of this re-charged regime. Since the release his last installment to his internationally lauded mixtape trilogy with "Music To Watch Girls Cry" (2001) "Songs In The Key Of Death" (2004) and 2007's "One Nation Under A Grave" Votel's work for his own label Finders Keepers has taken adventurous ears on simulated aural excursions around the globe. When it come to mixtape ingredients Votel always saves the tastiest morsels for his hungry friends at one of Manchester's longest running independent labels Fat City. Using specially prepared ingredients for his preferred creative format, Votel's mixtape duties have won him commissions to create sonic-collages of rare back-catalogue for Vertigo Records and Brazils Som-Livre label.

Vintage Voltage however sees votel at his de-blinkered best scouring Electronic Pop History looking for untapped currents to satisfy the boss (at the company for whom he used to undertake full-time duties as in-house graphic designer in the early 90's). Votel's additional sprinkles of global cinematic influences and spoken word cassettes and radio snippets serve to compliment this stack of bizarre original vinyl for another radiating microwave masala.

Taking time out from production duties for Gruff Rhys, design duties for Far Out Recordings and Demdike Stare and general ongoing creative exploits involving J.C. Vannier, J.P Massiera and a room full of Czech and Hungarian feature film negatives. Andy Votel is AMPED to say the least.

As if the kind people at RAMP don't give you an ample amount of music, they are now gracious enough to present new
label PTN. PTN will be covering a more stripped down basement sound, coming from UK Funky and House music. First off is the
long awaited debut release from Doc Daneeka with his 'Deadly Rhythm' EP, featuring all the tracks which have been doing the
rounds with DJ's such as Gilles Peterson, Marcus Nasty, Sinden, Kode 9, Brackles, Oneman and Martyn over the past few months.

Touch has re-issued a digipak version of Fennesz's first studio album for Touch, previously released as a jewel case in 1999. [There was prior to that a deluxe edition of 1000 copies in landscape art format, which sold out immediately.] It has been out of print for a couple of years. The audio remains the same, the imagery uses the location shots from the deluxe edition.

This is Christian Fennesz's 2nd solo full album after the highly acclaimed 'Hotel Paral.lel' (Mego 16). He also released 'fenneszPLAYS', a 3" CD originally issued by Mego but now on Jim O'Rourke's new label, Moikai. Fennesz has also made various contributions to compilation CDs, including the awesome 'Surf' on 'DECAY' (Ash International 3.9) and is a member of MIMEO, fixed line up orchestra alongside Keith Rowe, Kaffe Matthews, Jerome Noetinger, Phil Durrant, Peter Rehberg, Thomas Lehn, Rafael Toral, Gert Jan Prins, Cor Fuhler, Markus Wettstein, and Markus Schmickler. He has also released a live CD on Touch, # TO:CDR3. 'plus forty seven degrees 56' 37" minus sixteen degrees 51' 08"' was recorded in his garden in Austria in July and August 1999; the photographs in the booklet by Jon Wozencroft embroider this.y

The UK Jazz-Dance Scene is a uniquely positioned scene that has sent shock waves around the world and influenced countless artists, DJ's and Dancers. Despite this, it is surprisingly sparsely documented with regards to CD's, Books and articles detailing the songs, dance moves, key DJ's, dancers and clubs. Luckily, we recently had the fantastic 'From Jazz Funk & Fusion to Acid Jazz' by Freestyle recording artist/DJ and now author Mark 'Snowboy' Cotgrove'

Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass featuring Dianne Reeves kick off the CD with a storming rendition of the Ray Noble jazz standard 'Cherokee' which was initially made famous by Charlie Parker. Other highlights include Primo & the Groupe's 'A Child Runs Free', a wonderful modern take on Fred Johnson's notoriously rare Vocal Jazz track, and Marcos Ariel's 'Samba Torto' which is Brazilian Samba-Fusion of the highest order.

Music For Jazz Dancers draws together be-bop, nu-jazz, big band and samba/jazz fusion sounds, the common denominator being that they all inspire hot heeled hoofers to throw jazz shapes across discerning dancefloors the world over! The Hangman Tree' perfectly showcases the musical tour de force that is Laura J Martin, whose spell-binding vocals gently harmonise to the sound of mandolins and harmonica before launching into a delightful and uplifting jamboree of xylophone, beats, handclaps, kazoos and flute. As with all of Laura's tracks, 'The Hangman Tree' was self-produced by her own fair hands, with the majority of instruments played by her also. Live performances alongside Faust, Rothko, Robert Logan and Alabama 3 have shown Raf and O can swim in experimental waters whilst keeping the pool edge of pop at hand. Both the LP and CD contain in-depth sleeve notes detailing the history of funk and R&B in California and the social conditions which led to the funk explosion of the late '60s. In addition there are thoroughly researched notes for every individual track, revealing for the first time the hidden stories behind such revered and enigmatic artists as Leon Gardner, Arthur Monday and Delores Ealy.

When David Walker did a spot of moonlighting under the pseudonym 'Bunker Hill' with Link Wray and his band, the alter-ego was necessary not only to avoid a conflict with his other commitments but also to allow Walker to break out from his gospel shackles and raise some hell - which he most certainly did on the unique and astounding set of recordings he made under this new moniker. Redefining the term 'Blues Shouter', Bunker Hill's vocals are screamed, barked and growled with a truly wild abandon, like a deranged synthesis of Little Richard and Howlin' Wolf. The accompaniment from Link Wray and his Raymen, meanwhile, is a masterclass of stark, primitive blues noise.

'You Can't Make Me Doubt My Baby' is a bass heavy stomper, a rolling rhythm with cool piano hits and of course Walker's gruff vocal. On the other side, 'Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf' showcases Bunker Hill's (even) wilder side as he yells and riffs a call and response sermon based on the nursery rhyme of the same name over an insistent, sparse, clattering drum-led back drop.

It's worth mentioning that all of the original singles were released on terrible styrene, which as most collectors know deteriorates progressively on repeated playing. So not only is it a pleasure to offer up Bunker Hill's unique madness to a wider audience, but also to preserve these two tracks on good quality vinyl for the first time.

The Haggis Horns return with their first new material in over two years. Following the tragic loss of founder member Jason Rae in 2008, the band have been back in the studio to record their second LP. These two tracks are the first fruits of those sessions, with lead track "The Cockroach Grind" featuring funk aficionado and former Zap Mama singer Nia Saw (aka Lucinda Slim) dropping fantastic vocals over the tightest funk band this side of the Atlantic. It's the usual straight-up funk floor-filling fare from the Haggis boys - two tracks of pure funk energy. Look out for the album "Keep on Movin" later this year.

Through our Soul 7 label we are committed to the continuing pursuit of the rarest and most sought after quality soul sides on the planet. For our latest release, few could argue that we haven't kept our part of the bargain as we bring you a reissue of Walter Wilson's awesome two-sider from the Wand catalogue. A real lost gem of mid-'60s soul, the single gives us a Northern dancer from the very tip-toppest shelf on the 'A' and a real beauty of a mid-tempo ballad on the flip.

Why the single is so scarce is anyones guess. Wand was a large and prolific independent and though it is common to find obscure titles on such labels - records which perhaps had one promo run and were then canned - rarities of this magnitude are unusual full stop. What we do know is that you could likely count the known copies of the original on one hand and that the last (perhaps the only') to go through at online auction fetched a healthy figure of over $6000 (yes, six thousand US dollars).

Of course, such glaring figures make interesting reading but it's no use if the record doesn't hold up musically. Have a listen, we think you'll agree that Walter Wilson's two fine '60s soul sides hold up perfectly.

Nocturnal Sunshine is one alias of 22yr old British/Japanese producer Maya Jane Coles. With all of her productions having a heavy dub influence, it was only natural that this project came about.
