One of drum & bass' best kept secrets Brother returns to Fokuz Recordings with his sophomore album the 'Cold Shoulder LP'. The album showcases Brothers admiration for jazz, funk, soul but also scraps of reggae and dub music are occasionally to be found. It's groovy, delightful and has a retro feel to it, a true indication of where the artist and label are at the moment.
With the double CD containing 13 luscious drum & bass cuts as well as 14 downtempo tracks, ranging from deep house to nu-jazz, Brother has really outdone himself this time!

Following two stunning singles, prodigiously talented producer and composer Frederic Robinson is set to drop his debut album,
'Mixed Signals', on Blu Mar Ten Music on 14th
October. The album is the culmination of over a year's work and a lifetime of musical
obsession for Robinson, comprising of a series of intricately crafted and delicately emotive tracks exploring a forward-thinking
electronic vision, which he describes as "music for the listener with a broad horizon and a short attention span'.
Over its eleven tracks, 'Mixed Signals' gives Robinson the canvas to showcase the full breadth of his talents like never before.
Amalgamating the many influences that inform his productions, from drum & bass and electronica to contemporary classical
composers, 'Mixed Signals' is a brilliantly crafted and coherent artistic statement that draws upon his talents as a classically trained
multi-instrumentalist as well as an electronic producer. Filled with light and shade, impact and intricacy, 'Mixed Signals' is much more
than a drum & bass record or a collection of club tracks; this is an album in the truest sense of the word.
"So far, this album is my biggest musical project and my greatest achievement. I worked on it for about a year and went through many
different creative phases in that time, all of which are represented somewhere on the LP. It is a summary of my current talents, skills
and interests. It marks the end for some ideas and concepts and the beginning for many others." - Frederic Robinson
Built from a collage of acoustic and electronic elements, Robinson's music is a dense patchwork of skittering rhythms, found sound
and lush instrumentation, which harnesses a compelling emotional draw as much as it does an undeniable dance floor energy. Both
immediate and nuanced, 'Mixed Signals' is a brilliant balance of contrasts.
The sweeping drama of previous single 'Theme Park' opens the album, remaining as fresh and brilliantly unique as ever, while 'Off
Topic' and 'Bloom' featuring Stray both also provide familiar touchstones, exploring esoteric manifestations of 170 bpm's outer
possibilities. Three vocal tracks are scattered throughout the tracklist, with the soft, otherworldly tones of Melanie Robinson providing
an entry point to Robinson's world of broken percussion and wandering melodies.
Elsewhere, 'Vamp Till Ready' balances rich string orchestration against a wave of skittering percussion and 'Shut' offers an expansive
beauty in its naïve, dreamlike melodies. 'Particles' showcases an innate understanding of drum & bass constructs, warping tight
breaks and deep bass against bold blasts of colour while the eponymous track explores a playfully off-kilter and delicately nuanced
downtempo vision, before the album is played out on wave of hazy melodies and light-footed rhythms with closer 'Static Float'.
'Mixed Signals' provides the broad canvas that Robinson thrives in painting with his sprawling musical influences and complex
arrangements, and the results are phenomenal. The album is a masterpiece in dance floor escapism from a talent whose career is
undoubtedly in the ascendant.

That waiting however is nearly over and as the ever impending Jubei 'To Have and Have Not ' Album release date grows ever nearer and in anticipation for the full L.P we are issuing this upfront sampler of the Album to showcase two (of the many) highlights from the LP and to offer a snapshot of the forthcoming content and quality.
*First up is a track that absolutely needs no introduction, Jubei's take on a Timeless classic from the Metalheadz Godfather himself. Goldie's 'Rufige'
*Many wouldn't even dare or try to take on such Gargantuan tune for fear of falling completely short of the original, many have tried and done just that - failed! - But Jubei clearly unfazed by the challenge hits the nail firmly on the head with the perfect re-lick bringing the original bang up to date whilst remaining loyal to the original.
*The flip takes things into 140 territory with 'Visions' Ft. J Kenzo.
*Tracks like this really emphasize how sublime music at 140 BPM can be with a beautifully crafted excursion in deep darkness with complexity formed through simplicity.

Tom Withers aka Klute is unlike any other drum & bass producer in the scene today. From his entry into the music business fronting
the late 80's punk band The Stupids and his early jungle releases on legendary label Certificate 18, Klute has always set himself apart
from the pack never afraid to do things that little bit differently.
15 years in and his story continues as he prepares to unleash a staggering seventh studio album, 'The Draft', another accomplished
piece of musical ambition from a producer who never fails to disappoint. Beautifully crafted soundscapes adorn trademark melodicity
upon delicate and at times brutal drum & bass for a complete listening experience that draws the listener in from start to finish.
Essential, exquisitely executed bass music for 2013.
'I love music, I love to bathe in it. In fact I love to writhe about in it and rub it all over. So, in the 3 years since I last made a KLUTE LP
I've listened to everything and bought whatever I could get my hands on. From techno to rock n roll, soundtracks to hardcore punk,
electro house to psychedelic jazz. The lot. I go through bouts of just listening. I call them creative vacations and when you come back
you just have to write and that's exactly what I did. 27 tracks later I'd set my deadline to stop and the lengthy task of pairing things
down began. This is where we arrive at The Draft, my 7th album as Klute.
This LP is where my varied musical taste meets Drum & Bass and the bits beyond. Some might say D&B is one thing but to me it's
always meant a whole lot more. A world of possibilities set within the structure of a musical discipline. That's why I enjoy making
these albums so much because I've been given the privilege to go nuts within these walls'

5 Klute - House Of Macgiver

10 Klute Ft. Klose - My Black & White

Next up on Critical Music's Modulations imprint comes a showcase from one of the most talked about names in UK hybrid bass
music right now. Heavily supported by the likes of Kasra, Shy FX, dBridge, Mark Pritchard, Rockwell, DJ Die and many more, Sam
Binga talks us through this dance floor fire release in his own words...
"I guess the main idea behind 'AYO!' was to make something crunchy and lo-fi, but still heavy enough for the floor. I think I was
listening to a lot of Timbaland beats around the time I built this one - I've always loved the massive kicks and weird squashy snares
he uses, so I wanted to try something along those lines at DnB speed. The rest seemed to flow quite organically and Redders brought
his usual charisma and animation to the vocal. Like the man says, everyone knows he mashes up the show...
'Freezy' is a bit more straightforward - something like a tribute to classic bouncing-subs jungle, but with added southern crunk vibes
and a chunky halfstep beat. If I remember rightly, there's a gun being cocked over each snare, and I brought the hardware sampler
out to get the pads and synths sounding suitably 1995."
For the first time in Critical:Modulations history, this vinyl is available in 'hot pink' !

Fre4knc steps back into Dust Audio Vinyl Territory with the fierce stepper, Beastbox.
Collaborating with the Netherlands number One beatboxer , Maask.
Opening up with an intricate drum pattern from the Human Voice Chameleon that is Maask,
Fre4knc transforms this into drum & bass form with ease.
Once the bass announces itself with gargantuan proportions, keeping your body still is not an option. Again the vocal chords of Maask are demonstrated on the low frequency of the sub!
Fre4knc adds his own trademark shuffles and percussion which are the catalyst for the
roller-coaster ride that Beastbox becomes!
Overall this is a very original concept that sits warmly in the 170 bracket. Its been quite an 18 months for the Dutch man, with his first vinyl outing on Dust Audio 001 alongside Mindmapper progressing into releases on Samurai and the much anticipated Long Player, Transit 2 on Dispatch coming soon.
We are truly excited to present Beastbox on wax through Dust Audio.
Minor Rain also returns to Dust Audio Vinyl for the second time after dropping Heckler on
our 002 release. This time around he presents the jazz infused tech roll out known as 'Jazz Pants'.
A wicked sleazed out intro with live percussion recorded by the multi-talented man himself.
Horns bring in the double bass which builds then rolls into some pure tech funk whilst
retaining all that jazz.
Imagine Miles Davis sat in front of a sequencer in the 21st some idea what this tune is all about. Minor Rain still manages to give it his own trademark with ultra tight percussion, lovely switch ups, rolling hats which still retaining the original analogue concept. Late night smoke filled freeform jazz clubs at 174 mph!
It's been quite a year for Minor Rain, the Slovakian has become a rising star in drum n bass with releases on Med School, Samurai and also winning the Dispatch Remix competition. With lots more in store for us at Dust Audio we always get a thrill from his music and never more so than when we first heard Jazz Pants.
Again expect to hear more from him on Dust Audio very soon.

Noisia & Foreign Beggars are extremely proud to present I Am Legion's much anticipated self-titled, 16 track, debut album.
"The album was made during countless sessions (no more than 40 full studio days max) over the last five years. Many passes of production and scrutiny reached every track, alongside a plethora of feedback spread sheets and whiteboard summaries. We never set a deadline for ourselves; the whole idea of a full album only took shape later in the process when we realized how much material we had generated and how cool it could be to put it out as one big thing." I Am Legion nods to rap's erstwhile forays into electronica, absorbing elements of its present whilst laying out a reassuringly disturbed vision of what's to come.

*Over the years, drum & bass has seen literally thousands of record labels come and go. But amid the seemingly infinite imprints that have provided an outlet for the music, very few can claim to have had anywhere near the influence of the mighty Virus Recordings.
*Ed Rush & Optical, alongside fellow 'tech step' luminaries Matrix, Trace, RymeTyme and later Bad Company and Cause 4 Concern, layed down the Virus template on timeless tracks such as 'Gasmask', 'Watermelon' and 'Medicine', as well as LPs 'Wormhole' and 'Sleepwalk', and within just a couple of years had a seismic influence on the sound of Drum & Bass.
*On his third LP for the mighty Virus Recordings, all, and we mean, all of the tracks are shut-down, stone-cold classics, and as soon as you hear cuts like Mudshark, A.R.P., and the unbelievable Botfly, you'll know exactly what we
mean. Touches of neurofunk, hints of classic techstep and shades of hardstep are found throughout, but Audio is also not afraid to throw out the rulebook and take the music in directions he wants. A master of his craft, his word is the
law, and we are all just pawns in his game.
*Audio's first experience with electronic music was in the Early 90's with the Colin Dale and Colin Favour radio shows on Kiss 100. He was instantly hooked, and when, a few years later, the classic "Wormhole" LP on Virus recordings was released, there was no turning back and he embraced the underground family that we know and love as, Drum and Bass
*The true combination of music and technology can be found in Audio's music, as one of the most experienced producers in the game today unleashes a masterpiece. As always, he has drawn from his wealth of influences, creating a full tableau of sound possibilities, unleashing an array of styles and moods. If you have been searching for that distillation of the essence of the late 90s, but skyrocketed into the future, look no further than the Force Of Nature LP

In a relatively short space of time Sato, Phobia and Tyrone's Chroma unit has become a by-word for discerning D&B quality. Following a series of key releases, and a slamming mix for Fabric, here we find them returning to Program with two more superb slices of dancefloor science. The next level beckons...
'Gindhouse' succinctly shows why the boys are in such high demand; imagine zooming down a long tunnel carved deep into a mountain made purely of bass. Lights flickering past flashing in the corner of your eyes, one dedicated direction, no obstacles - just pure hyper-speed clarity.
Nitro-boosted breakbeats, precision engineered bass droning with mass power, dipping and rising subtly raising every possible hair on your neck. Savage yet suave, 'Gindhouse' surges with every timeless rave nuance you can imagine. Trust us: this will sound just as heavy in 20 or 50 year's time as it does now.
'If You Only Knew' plays the perfect foil. Deeper and more soulful but just as powerful, it instantly engages with dreamy piano flurries and tight rolling percussion. A flicker of a yearning vocal follows before we're suddenly enveloped by undiluted sub bass, humming with low-end luxury.
And so we continue... The sub develops a confident growl while very subtle synth elements make themselves known on the fills and poignant, emotive pads ease their way into the blend. A quintessential roller, this promises to take your floor far, far away to places they didn't know existed.

Mind Vortex return... And they're packing some serious heat. Following the huge success of 'Alive' and 'Arc' earlier this year, here we find the duo presenting two of their most demonstratively dark, powerhouse pieces to date. Prepare to be blown away...
'Gravity' is built up around a sharp, spiky riff that punches its way up and down the scale. Icy, hair-raising and galvanised with a genuine sense of urgency and danger, you can file this one under 'concentrated undiluted dancefloor business'.
Driven by heavyweight kicks and an obese bass groove, there's no escaping its natural forces. Just like gravity itself. Trust us: Newton would be pulling some serious bass faces if he knew his theory had influenced this tearing slab of audio attitude.
From attitude to altitude, 'Catapult' flings you into outer space the second you hear its purring metallic intro while snippets of vocals tease and please throughout. Then, without any warning whatsoever, an enormous synth riff ignites. Sawing through the mix with the power of an industrial timber mill, it winds up and up and up with raw audio insanity.
Dropping into the duo's most intense, muscular bass riffs to date, 'Catapult' is nagging, hooky and charged with the perfect amount of tech tenacity. Bona fide bass dynamite, if you've caught Andy C playing any time in the last few months, you'll be well aware of its outrageous dancefloor effect. Truly massive.
Two incredible pieces of underground drum & bass, two more reasons to keep your ears locked into Mind Vortex. This really is a very special release.

SPEARLTD017 sees the return of MC and vocalist Ad-Apt to the label. This time with his own track 'Need Your Love' getting the remix treatment for two of d&b's most prolific producers.
*Cyantific opens up with Ad-Apt's distinctive vocals and one of the catchiest vocoded hooks that I've heard in ages before slamming down a peak time hands in the air bassline driven monster that will make the hairs on the back of your next stand on end.
*BCee keeps things traditionally deep with a warm building baseline and killer synth hook while Ad-Apt's vocals roll effortless over the top. Once you have had a listen to this it's almost impossible to get the hook out of your head.
*Ad-Apt is the official MC for Loadstar and Loadstar live and is quickly building a reputation as one of the most versatile new MC's in the game.
*Support from 1xtra, Nu:Tone, Spectrasoul, Savage Rehab, Ray Keith and a whole load more...

This limited edition vinyl product is a single 12' vinyl, shrink-wrapped with full 14-track CD inside.
* Med School signing and prodigious Welsh talent Lung has made a conscious decision not to indulge in passing trends and the temptations of throwaway internet culture, instead putting quality firmly before quantity and delicately crafting his spectacular debut album "Wait Less Suspense".
* Showing off some adept production and song-writing skills, he expertly weaves cerebral drum & bass with experimental electronic music, garage and house beats across the 14-track album. The release also features some highly talented collaborators from a variety of musical backgrounds, whose contributions perfectly compliment and enhance the diversity of music on offer. These include ethereal electronic producer Phaeleh, fellow Welsh songstress Rachel K Collier, indie/folk duo Paper Aeroplanes.
* The first side begins with "Time Just Gets Away From Us" and we are plunged into Lung's immersive world of delicate soundscapes, hazy beats and poignant lyrics from Rachel K Collier, who fans of Lung will remember from their last release together "Why Does Anyone Ever Do Anything" Next we have garage-influenced 'In Bloom (feat. Paper Aeroplanes)', followed by 'Sunday Drivers' and contemplative, lush 'Hell Is Other People'. Flipping over, and we have 'Stars! Hide Your Fires (feat. Tiiu)' followed by bleepy Rustie-like sounds of 'Nervous Wreck', the quirky head-nod electronica of 'Curiosity Cove' and finally the glistening harmonies of progressive drum & bass roller "Open Palms" featuring Phaeleh and Rachel K Collier.
* Bringing together an array of tempos and influences from across the spectrum, "Wait Less Suspense" maintains an effortless continuity and togetherness making it an essential purchase for open-minded fans of electronic music.

Ptay is the vinyl debut on NoMad for Luca Mucci aka Piezo. The track is really what we consider a "dancefloor train" without renouncing to the IDM details that are the main characteristics of Piezo's productions. The deep and dark attitude and the minimalistic approach of this release are amplified by the audio trap well weaved by Killawatt: the best remixer we could have on NoMad to celebrate and valorize the Piezo's talent, having built in these years his reputation on innovation and attention to details.

'Beneath this world's tranquil facade lies the Lode Runner. He plots a course deep beneath the surface, an unstoppable motive force clearing a path through all that lies between him and you. Beware. For when the inevitable happens. When he finds what he is searching for, you like so many before you will be lost forever, caught in his devastating wake.'
Rregula day-dreams with this new double vinyl EP on Mindtech LTD, inspired by classic video game 'Lode Runner'. The title track rolls out from a video game style intro like Super Mario on a mission. Bunt Hunt arrives hot on his tail, bringing a Tetrisian beat tesselated with retro synth sounds. Gelantinous Mass, howling and wild, is programmed to move your feet on the dancefloor. Finally, we reach the last level, Barnes, where the electric bass and rock overtones dance with the silence.

After several heavy-hitting singles on RAM, and a massive debut album release, Rene LaVice's name is well and truly scorched onto the international D&B map. Released in February 'Insidious' revealed the Toronto trailblazer's broadest badman skills and scored him massive support.
Now Ram Records returns to the album with two of their most exciting new signings. The first of a Rene LaVice remix series, this single sees both Chords and June Miller applying their technique to two of the many 'Insidious' highlights.
Chords takes the lead. And he does so with his darkest vision to date. Taking the icy unforgiving croaks and groans of the sub-soaked original, he's added more weight and brute force to the kicks and a trippier, more sporadic nature to the bass gurgles. All this is countered sweetly by occasional breezes of tantalising pads... Only to throw us back into the deep dark groove for more untamed bass fun.
June Miller follow with an equally satisfying take on 'Dark Passenger'. Paying respect to Rene's original demonically hypnotic Q&A bassline, the Anglo/Dutch duo apply their trademark metallic industrial strength dynamics. Charged with full spectrum muscle, and broken nicely by a short, sweet body-shocking halfstep drop, it's June Miller at their most savage and sonically succinct.

* After the storming success of Fractures outing on METHXX02 Friske quickly follows up with both tracks 'Covert' & 'Venture' on METHXX03
' *Covert' kicks things off with a deep excursion that cleverly steps its way through the unknown, a precise juxtaposition of effects and haunting stabs that swell in balanced unison throughout an ever-evolving arrangement. The A side is nothing short of the highest calibre of drum and bass music and the perfect addition to the METHXX catalogue.
* The flipside sees Friske bring some smoother vibes to the forefront with 'Venture' The B Side cleverly meanders with effortless ease through intricate melodies against a backdrop of smooth evolving pads, creating the perfect canvas for the foreground of perfectly weighted drums and exactly the right weight of B-line bounce to keep things moving.
* Overall the whole 12' exemplifies Friske's highly accomplished production prowess with a release that has the Metalheadz signature stamped all over it and once again all finished off in the hugely desirable and collectable METHXX packaging
* Another stunning Metalheadz Ltd outing for 2013 and another slice of Metalheadz Future History.

*Hydro is really making some moves this year. Coming on the back of two huge releases 'Celestine' on Symmetry and 'The Formula' on Dispatch. He teams up with Gamma of Spinline, and the Spinline collective for a 12' is much anticipated.
*A serious double A side release, both tracks are picks for the dancefloor purists. The anticipation builds with 'May Day' really bringing the warning sound to the dance, whilst 'True' really is the smooth operator. A class 12, and a great precursor as we wait for the dreamthief 4 project up next.

*Limited edition vinyl
*With experience comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes the power to create. And both Optiv and CZA have all of these qualities in abundance.
*Already established veterans of the scene via their output as Cause 4 Concern, this release sees 2 of the C4C members team up under their solo guises. Combining with Hardware to work together, to bring the best of the beats and the bass.
*The first of which is Vital Signs, a humming, resonating beast of a track, which builds itself around early helicopter effects, which are paired to a beat that slowly establishes itself. The action zooms in on a repeating bass note, which is surrounded by tinkling triangle sounds and some live - sounding drum rolls. Futuristic, funky and furious, this one'll have you itching to bust a move.
*The 2nd cut - Back To The Future sees classic neuro flavours erupt, as eerie synths clash with a ridiculously rolling bassline. See your way into the impending doom, as the duo take you on a wild ride. The track stays pretty low, as details are picked out in the drums and atmospheric elements. Things drop down half way through, but then rise up again nicely, as the bass reasserts itself.
*Vital Signs/Back To The Future readily demonstrates two producers at the top of their game. Be a part of the future signs, be a part of HWARE26. Get ready!
*Fully serviced to press and DJ's. Full support / feature report to follow.

Having impressed D&B heads from across the scene with their searing debut album 'What I've Always Waited For' in March this year, Nu:Logic a.k.a Dan and Matt Gresham, are back with another two tracks pressed on the finest vinyl.
* First up, 'Everlasting Days' is a soulful garage inspired number, harking back to the haclyon days of the 90s with a catchy hook, lush vocals from Lifford and plenty of that Nu:Logic sparkle that we've come to expect from the Gresham brothers. This one is a guranteed charmer - truly uplifting, irresistably hands-in-the-air with that sing-a-long factor which makes it a firm favourite of all who hear it. A ubiquitous summer smasher.
* Accompanying this is a VIP of another gem from the album, the ever-popular 'We Live There' which brings in Mancunian vocal talent DRS for the growling, spoken swagger which dominates the track. Bringing together warm, rumbling bass with low-slung beats and compelling twisted, tech-y D&B rhythms, 'We Live There' (VIP) takes things on a deeper and darker tip than the original, showing yet another aspect of the expansive Nu:Logic sound.

IN FOR ME follows the storm whipped up by
Skittles' collaboration with bad man of the moment
DUB PHIZIX. METALHEADZ golden boy JUBEI has

DRUMS, 'N A SICK GUITAR SAMPLE 'n'

On the flip NEED FOR MIRRORS have gone in with
a grimy drum driven fump festival of doom!!!
Both of the tunes are, of course, heavily laden with
SKITTLES trademark precision lyrics taking a
bite out of the music industry! SHADOW....
