Lee “Scratch” Perry, who gave Earl George Lawrence the name George Faith, was impressed with the singer’s early songs and worked with him for over a decade. Faith’s early songs dealt more with romanticism than political sense as opposed to other fellow contempary artists. On his To Be A Lover album the greater part consists of soul and r&b covers (suggested by Perry) like “Midnight Hour-Yaya” (Wilson Pickett), “I’ve Got The Groove” (The O’Jays) in his typical reggae-crooner style. However it is the odd-ball cover “Diana” (Paul Anka) which shows the unique style of George Faith on his 1977 debut album.

Christian 'Kon' Taylor's KonTemporary imprint goes from strength to strength! This, the third release sees the Boston crate diggin' selector, producer and remixer extraordinaire reworking the mighty sounds of L.T.D.'s roof-raising 'Love To The World'.
L.T.D., an acronym of Love, Togetherness and Devotion were a highly respected and dope 70's Soul and Jazz Funk outfit fronted by the powerful Gospel-tinged vocals of one Jeffrey Osborne, whose powerful tenor voice gave their music some serious weight! Heavily revered among music lovers and often sampled throughout hip-hop and dance music (check out 'Cuttin it up', Llove ballad', 'Holdin on' & 'Back in love' for proof!) One of the group's biggest and most well-known cuts was 'Love to the world', a track that got love from the hardcore dancers, B-boys and old-school heads alike. As usual, Kon has taken this classic into a new realm with his own unique arrangement and use of ad-libs and unheard instrumentation, all taken from the master tapes and lovingly reworked. It's a difficult task to breathe new life into the classics, but Kon always comes up trumps with his fresh ideas and expert ear. Now you can catch these super heavyweight 12" versions, including an epic 9 minute plus instrumental mix, all expertly tweaked by Kon and mixed by Scott 'Supe' Stallone at Found Sound, Philadelphia.

Soul Jazz Records' latest crate-digging excursion into the Crescent City vaults delves deep into the roots and history of the voodoo world of New Orleans Funk and as ever features a stellar selection of killer rare funk and soul! The album is jam-packed with serious break-heavy, heavyweight funk tunes from classic New Orleans artists including Eddie Bo, Betty Harris, Dave Bartholomew, Johnny Adams and Eldridge Holmes (with the ever-present Allen Toussaint and The Meters as always behind the scenes). There is also a host of rare cuts from a number of lesser-known second line New Orleans artists, whose fame rarely reached past the walls of the city, including Gus 'The Groove' Lewis, James K-Nine, Norma Jean, Bob French, Chuck Colbert, Zilla Mayes and Joe Haywood. In the 1960s the syncopated beat of New Orleans Funk developed out of a gumbo mix of New Orleans local flavours - rhythm and blues, Mardi Gras Indians, the street percussion Second Line of the Jazz Funeral and Marching bands, Caribbean rhumba and mambo rhythms - all of which are in full effect. Even Zydeco, the rhythm and blues offspring of Louisiana Cajun music, had the funk as the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier, shows us here.New Orleans music and Voodoo both have their roots in the African-American free black and slave gatherings held at Congo Square from the 18th century onwards. Here Voodoo king Doctor John (the original one!) and Voodoo queen Marie Levaux held court over their followers, and here also could be heard the first sounds of New Orleans jazz music. Soul Jazz Records' latest album describes how these two cultural forms are inextricably inter-related.The album traces the path of funk from the very first glimpses of the style - Dave Bartholomew's super-tight 'The Monkey' (recorded in 1957) and James Waynes' junkie jailbird anthem 'Junco Partner' (1951, later covered by Dr John, Professor Longhair, James Booker, and The Clash) through to the 1970s heavyweight boogie funk of Chocolate Milk's rare groove classic Action Speak Louder Than Words and The Baron's 'Making It Better'.Also featured is a selection of hard-core classic funk productions from the legendary Eddie Bo (James K-Nine, David Robinson) and the genius of Allen Toussaint (Eldridge Holmes, Gus 'The Groove' Lewis, Lou Johnson). There also a number of super-rare independent New Orleans' one-off 45 single funk productions from the likes of Chick Colbert and Bob French. And lastly, New Orleans Funk female vocalists are in full effect with tracks by Betty Harris (whose 'Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul' has just come out on Soul Jazz Records), Zilla Mayes and Norma Jean. This album is released as a heavyweight double gatefold vinyl (+ download code), CD pack and digital album, and comes with extensive sleeve-notes and exclusive photography.

The first of three volumes: stomping, rollicking gospel music, intermingling with raw soul, searing blues, hard-rocking doo-wop and jazz, and storming r&b.
Infused and incandescent with the hurting, surging indignation of the Civil Rights movement, here are twenty-four precious scorchers by giants like the Staple Singers and Jimmy Scott, alongside devastating sides by less celebrated names like the Harmonising Five of Burlington, North Carolina, and teen-group the North Philadelphia Juniors, culminating triumphantly with slamming, sanctified versions of Hit The Road Jack and Wade In The Water.
Gatefold sleeve, with full-size booklet; beautifully designed, with stunning, rare photographs and original Savoy artwork.

The Diabolical Liberties release their debut album "High Protection & The Sportswear Mystics" via the boundary breaking On The Corner Records label - a bastion of oddball jazz and electronics from the worldwide underground. Comprising Rob Gallagher (vocals, guitar, bass) and Alex Patchwork (head of squarepushing), the duo's debut longplayer is a rough, unpolished gem of a record that falls clumsily in the gaps between post-punk, electronica and jazz. Lead single 'Sliders' embodies this identity crisis, simultaneously honouring and deriding the ubiquity of said footwear over resonant breakbeats, plonking cowbell and the screeching horn of Ignacio Salvadores (King Krule / Gal Go). Elsewhere, the brilliant Emma Jean Thackray sprinkles 'High Protection' with cosmic dust, 'Bigger Than You' is a ramshackle (but no less respectful) homage to the 70s Ghanaian disco/fusion purveyed by legends like Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas. All produced and recorded in a shed, on train platforms, trains, tubes and occasionally Caffè Nero in Cheam when it was quieter than home.

Bruno Duplant’s music often explores the memories of things, moments, and spaces. For this volume, he realizes the idea by religiously recording old electronic devices like VHS, old computer, floppy disk while it’s operating, during several months in 2019, and collected it. Per the artist statement, (e)rase is a reflection on the premature and programmed obsolescence of all of our products, mainly electronic, but also questions on the future of stored data (why, how, for how long, at what price for the environment, etc.). While seems paradoxical, it is an effort of a self-critique which at the same time sculpting a commemoration on the temporal relationship between human and technology.

For this volume, Sydney duo Andy Rantzen and Jochen Gutsch team up with Brisbane-based Lawrence English to create a new trio work, themed around the ideas, life, and personality of a German philosopher, poet and thinker, Arthur Schopenhauer. Based on Rantzen’s spoken words and English’s haunting sine waves, Gutsch structured the piece by adding piano, trumpets, wailing guitar, and thumping percussion, arranged as the original composition “On the Completion of My Master Work”. On the flip side of the tape, comes the reimagined version of the title piece. Both pieces appear as reflections to each other, maybe challenging each other, making conversations and questioning each existence.

A glorious live disco workout harking back to the spirit of New York's heyday when love and inclusivity ruled the dancefloor. Featuring additional remix by Rahaan.
You need this in your life! You know that feeling when you hear a killer melody and it just sticks in your head and makes you wanna dance Call it disco, call it what you want, this song is packed with soul, emotion and a righteous hook, boasting a stunning vocal performance from US singer Angela Gooden and comes armed with heavy percussion, funky bass, and some serious Rhodes.
As part of a three track vinyl package on Madrid label Lovemonk, New York/Madrid DJ, producer and vinyl vendor Oli Stewart, better known as Casbah 73, goes back-to-boogie-basics on the lead track, along with a B side re-fix by Chicago's don of the disco edit, DJ Rahaan, and a full-on Percussion Jam instrumental cut.
'Love Saves The Day' is a joyous tribute to open-minded and inclusive clubs past and present with a sly nod to the seminal New York institutions like The Loft and the Paradise Garage. But this record isn't some banal exercise in faithful reproduction, rather a exhuberant slice of soul-disco that reignites the spirit of these underground nightclubs, lofts and warehouses. Casbah 73 has handpicked key musicians from around the globe and threaded all these together for a smack-you-on-the-lips belter, reverberating with positivity - love really is the message.
Rahaan's on-the-spot offer to remix 'Love Saves The Day' came about after a chance meeting with Casbah 73 in Madrid. A couple of days were spent checking out records and drinking wine - Oli is one of Europe's leading disco, soul and jazz vinyl dealers - when he played Rahaan an early demo. The rest, as they say, is history...

With the second installment of the Toxic - Funk Gramophone Soul has cooked up two epic jams starting out with hard-hitting remix of the soulful Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay - mixed up with some classic vocals by the Beasties and some heavy hitting ghetto funk beats. That combined with some energetic bouncy bass lines makes this an instant classic for the dance floors.

It was originally released by Rostrum Records on August 13, 2010 as a free mixtape via DatPiff, and commercially released digitally earlier this year. Narrowing down Mildlife's style into a genre is almost impossible, as they bond over the desire to push musical boundaries. No strangers to the Melbourne band scene, the four old friends have been drawing crowds through an epic journey at intimate venues and festivals for the best part of the past 4 years. Developing a tight live show bolstered by wild improvisation, the group have left punters itching for their first full length studio album "Phase" that mines jazz, psych and disco for its irresistible groove.
Capturing the spirit of the band, the 6 track debut LP of kaleidoscope jams is the interplanetary path between jazz, funk and disco with the perfect amalgamation of cosmic electronics and soulful acoustic instrumentation.
"A melting pot of musical sensations, the group combine progressive 1970s sounds with electronic krautrock, backed by a mixture of rhythmic funk, house, and dream-pop, to create an addictive atmosphere that's illustrated perfectly by their first single 'The Magnificent Moon'. An introduction to their highly anticipated debut LP due out early next year on Research Records, the nine minute masterpiece is a colossal adventure throughout the group's psyche." - Dummy Mag

· Funky return/LP debut of the 'Toby Glider' alias by LA-based Josh Lundquist (aka Liquid Pegasus)
· Heavy participation by highly in-demand Oakland funk instrumentalist E. Live on Rhodes.

*** Strictly no sales to Japan ***
A pocket symphony for the Modern Funk era, breezily moving between City Pop, Bob James-style Jazz Fusion, and romantic 80s Library music. Topflight disco producer Liquid Pegasus shows a deeper side under his Toby Glider moniker. A continuation in theme from his in-demand EP on Chicago's Star Creature label and long sold-out debut on City Baby Records, this LP is Toby Glider's breadth fully realized—novel funk, authentically emotive when it wants to be, but always working in killer grooves that range from warmup to overheat to cool down.
· "Mamachari" mellows along almost too-smooth, dappled with a Rhodes keys sparkle courtesy of Oakland, CA's first-rate funkster E. Live.
· "Pop City" bops to a boogie bass groove highlighted with swinging flutes and a chorus of congas resulting in instrumental disco perfection.
· The B side brings us the deep in your buns funk of "Hot Dog," whimsical rhythms and piano twinklings of "Romance Car" and rounds out to a beautiful dreamsicle melody with album closer "Orange Road"—overall a compact masterpiece of sometimes-sideways funk.

Two new banging reworks by DJ DSK, these tracks have been reworked from the original stems for a big sound and absolute dance floor dynamite. As usual the DNA Edits get right to the heart of the music it reworks and adds an intro and outro for easy DJ use. In this volume DJ DSK has taken on the classic Donna Summer song creating a big funky-disco remix with beefed up sound and a funky extended outro break. On the flip DJ DSK has reworked the classic INXS hit into a break beat smash with a big sound and of course intro and outro for the DJ to utilise and still contains that great vibe contained in the original song.

“Inner Touch is the embodiment of Nicolas Field within the electronic music art form. With a storied history informing their most recent work, Inner Touch is a concise vision of transformation and relinquishment. The music is both simple and deceptively deep, best suited to those seeking moments of transcendence on the dancefloor.
Throughout the last decade, Nicolas has toured extensively around the world, mostly with punk bands, galvanizing a thirst for moving and connecting people through music. Along with dozens of musical collaborations and releases, Field has published Farewell Manly Strength: Masculinity and the Politics of Emotion (Furrawn Press 2018), their take on the contemporary state of masculinity and gender identity. There is a wisdom and thoughtfulness that guide Nicolas' art, a calm and focused resolve that renders a delicate intensity.
100% Gone is the debut EP from Inner Touch. A five track exploration of synthetic textures, pulsing beats and polyrhythm that would happily bop in any night club. Yet these tracks hold the listener effortlessly to a place of fulfilled solitude and with a wonder for the natural world. This juxtaposition of solitude and community, nature and synthesis is what makes Inner Touch so special and a joy to listen to.”

Born into a family of artists and musicians Jacob Otten began playing piano and drums at age 5 after hearing his grandfathers Duke Ellington record and trying to replay "C-Jam Blues". From that first pivotal moment Jacob- known as Kid Sublime- has since devoted his heart and soul to all things music. From his early days drumming in Hardcore Punk bands to touring the world with Brazillian band Zuco 103 and working in the infamous record store Fat Beats, he quickly laid down a strong and solid foundation to build his career as a producing musician and Disc Jockey.
After trying out an Akai MPC 60 in the late 90's, Kid Sublime got hooked to the machine and a few years later he released his first House 12", "Tea For Two" which was later re-edited by Francois K. He then crafted a myriad of future soul classics for Dutch label Kindred Spirits like his 'Basement Soul' album. From House anthems on his own 'Ballroom Radio Records' imprint that have rocked dance floors all over the world, to Japan only albums that where so hot that the legendary BBE records re-released them so that more ears could hear KS's unmistakable sound. A true master of his craft, "Straat Coach" an opus of sorts, is his first full blown Dutch Rap album, humorous and witty but backed by insane 'bang it in ya jeep' style beats.

Milton Wright's perfect deep Soul classic "Keep It Up" has always been a top shelf record, everything about it is almost flawless! Whether it's Milton's silky vocal delivery, the incessant guitar driven back beat or the total space Funk vibe of his omnipresent ARP-2600 synthesizer this record has it all. Originally released on TK Disco's more Soul and Funk orientated Alston label which was home to many legendary artists and records, this 1975 sunshine classic never fails to make people move. A classic rare groove indeed. "The Silence That You Keep" takes up side-B, a jazzy, flute driven love song that again features Milton's perfect voice and some fantastic arrangement. A real gem of a record, with the original 45 changing hands for over £100 a time in used condition.
This is the first time "Keep It Up" has been re-issued in it's original 45 rpm format with the original Alston label artwork. It's been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of TK Disco / Alston Records, Miami Florida, USA.

By the time Mobb Deep hit with their third album - Hell On Earth - they were solidified street legends. Coming off the critically acclaimed The Infamous, Havoc and Prodigy hit the lab and came back with a soundtrack that is fitting to its title. Havoc's production is atmospheric, laced with his trademark drums loops and sharp pianos stabs. Add Prodigy's trademark flow and it's evident that the pairing is such an amazing match. While Hell On Earth is essentially a continuation of The Infamous you can still hear the
growth in both performers and Hell On Earth stands as some of their best work. The album features guest appearances by Nas, Raekwon, Method Man, and frequent collaborator Big Noyd. The album stands out for its acclaimed singles "G.O.D. Pt. III" and "Hell on Earth (Front Lines)," as well as "Drop a Gem on 'Em". Standout album cuts are "Animal Instinct", "Bloodsport", "More Trife Life" and "Can't Get Enough". The previously as a B Side "Still Shinin'" still rings off and rounding out the album is the deep "Apostle's Warning". This album is essential listening and a must have and we are excited to have it back in print on double LP

The time has come again: Another edition of the much-loved and highly praised by critics from all around the globe compilation «Paz E Futebol» will be released on Sonar Kollektiv. After 2006 and 2016 this is already the third sequel of this terrific series of light-footed Brazilian gems and other rarities transporting the Brazilian feel for
the ball musically.
Two times Jazzanova took care of the collection, now Junior Santos is responsible for digging up the tunes. The Brazilian drummer and producer is a true expert when it comes to Brazilian music. He already caught the attention of Jazzanova’s Jürgen von Knoblauch with the 2014 released compilation «Brazilian Disco Boogie Sounds (1978-1982)» on Favorite Recordings. Together the two diggers selected eight songs that fit simply perfectly. Due to licensing reasons, the digital compilation features 2 additional songs by Chico de Abreu & Celso Rubinstein chosen by Juergen von Knoblauch. Although the
contributions originate from three different decades (1979 - 1992) they all have the discoid and boogiesque vibe in common mainly to come alive in productions from Maranhão, Rio and Bahia.

New flagship band of the Swiss ska and rocksteady scene, Cosmic Shuffling finally delivers its first album, Magic Rocket Ship. After the success of its first EP, Cosmic Goes Wild, which was playlisted for more than a year on the Swiss national radios, elected in the ten best records of the genre in 2017 and internationally acclaimed by the specialized critics, the Geneva band had to live up to the expectations, and it's done. Magic Rocket Ship is both a tribute to the Jamaican music of the 1960s and a breakthrough into the futuristic world of the sextet. Recorded in the aesthetics of sixties sound, ribbon microphones, magnetic tapes and analog saturation, it was Roberto Sánchez, the extraordinary Spanish producer, who mixed the nine original tracks on this LP. Dancing from beginning to end like a comet in space, Magic Rocket Ship is a real musical nugget that will delight both vintage fans and music lovers in search of freshness. To be discovered urgently!

With this album Cypress Hill turned towards a more tranquil, sedate, slower, spooky sound with beats. The dark mood of this album reflects the strife within the band during this era, when member Sen Dog temporarily left the band to pursue other projects.
On this album both Wu-Tang Clan members RZA and U-God make appearances on "Killa Hill Niggas". Also notable was track "No Rest For The Wicked" which ignited the feud between Cypress Hill and rapper Ice Cube, who they claimed, stole material from the band.
At the time this album was well received by critics worldwide.
Q - 4 Stars - Excellent - "The production is sophisticated, incorporating Indian sitar and sloping, almost psychedelic bass grooves to create a vaguely threatening ambient hardcore."
Melody Maker - Bloody Essential - "...resonates with freakish cheese-wire paranoia...a gobsmacking paradox of expansive claustrophobia.... The funk patters like an erratic heartbeat, the voices are stretched to bursting with menace and loathing and mockery..."

Initially released on Sonia E. Pottinger’s highly respected High Note Records in 1981, Sonya Spence’s Sings Love LP was relatively overlooked at the time her album came out. Sent on her final journey in 2007, the one-woman band leaves us with a legacy of exception.
However, time and a small first pressing has made it an object of desire for collectors, deejays and lovers all around the world. And, though it was shamelessly bootlegged throughout history, it is the first that time that this bliss of an LP gets the official reissue treatment on wax, with the love and respect it deserves.
Beyond classic tracks Let The Flow On Baby, Where is the love and the reggae gem Fantasy, this 10-tracker abounds with treasures, some of which cannot be found on the internet.
