'Misdemeanour' is a truly classic break and has been utilised by Madlib, Big Daddy Kane, Rodney P, The D.O.C, Pete Rock and many more. Danny Krivit edited the track in 2007, adding an acappella version on the front - still a big record with DJ's.
'When I'm Near You' is a deeper cut taken from the 'Foster Sylvers Featuring Pat & Angie Sylvers' LP released in 1974. More beautiful, golden-era soul written by Leon Sylvers III, produced by Jerry Butler, Keg Johnson and Michael Viner.
Lizzy Mercier Descloux may have come of age in Paris, but it's in New York's Lower East Side that she really came alive. The French punk pioneer, a friend of Patti Smith and Richard Hell, moved to New York in 1977 and soon immersed herself in avant-garde poetry, performance art, and punk music.
Closely associated with the founders of ZE Records (home to Was (Not Was) and Kid Creole & The Coconuts), Descloux released her debut album, Press Color, in 1979, revealing a punk-funk sound that positioned her as the French answer to the UK group The Slits or New York's own ESG. Just as The Slits gave "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" a makeover fit for warehouse parties on their celebrated Cut LP, Descloux's album revealed a penchant for the unexpected cover version too. It kicks off with a brilliantly rhythmic take on The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's Fire-a hit, like Marvin Gaye's in 1968. There's also a version of Lalo Schifrin's theme from Mission Impossible that appears to predate the breakbeat scene by a good twenty years. Elsewhere, we hear echoes of Serge Gainsbourg's Afrobeat-influenced work, Blondie's disco-inflected punk, and Talking Heads' world music-inspired art pop.
acked by guitarists/bassists D.J. Barnes and Erik Elliasson plus drummer Jimmy Young, Descloux creates a naïve musical world in which rhythm is everything—not a byproduct of the song but the reason for its existence. It's neither played nor sung with any great skill, but it has feel and character in spades and a looseness that's all too rarely achieved.
Of course, an artist with song titles including 'Tumor" (a cover of 'Fever" with amended lyrics) and "Herpes Simplex" is never a shoo-in for mainstream acceptance, and like many a No Wave classic, the album sold little. Now regarded as a cult classic, this Light In The Attic reissue is presented in an extended 18-track edition, collecting much of Descloux's work, including "Morning High," recorded with Patti Smith.
Descloux returned to Paris upon scoring a contract with CBS and soon found herself travelling to Africa to research the Afrobeat sound experimented with-from afar-on Press Color. The hit single "Mais où Sont Passées les Gazelles" and album Zulu Rock followed. By the 1990s, Descloux had turned her back on music in favor of painting and writing, which she continued until her death in 2004. Her playful spirit lives on in this LP.

SOLID GOLD SOUL-FUNK FROM THE SYLVERS, TAKEN FROM THEIR DEBUT SELF-TITLED ALBUM. CUT LOUD AT 45RPM.
Two more of our favourite cuts from The Sylvers first album, produced by Jerry Butler, Keg Johnson and Michael Viner, written by the hugely talented Leon Sylvers III.
'I Know Myself' was sampled by 9th Wonder for his 'Easy' track.
In the beginning of the 80's reggae music became increasingly in tune with what was happening in Kingston's dancehalls....probably more so than at any time since the sound system operators had started to make their own shuffle and boogie in the late 50's..
The international audience and the critics were too busy looking for a new Bob Marley to appreciate what was happening downtown and failed to acknowledge that this was a return to the real, raw roots of the music...brash,confidient,young record producers who were totally in tune with the youth audience stepped forward and seized the moment...
Oswald'Ossie'Thomas began his apprenticeship in the music business at the age of fourteen and served his time as a record salesman for Bunny 'Striker 'Lee and Winston 'Niney the Observer' Holness before moving on to Miss Sonia Pottingers Tip Top Records...
'I ended up working in three record stores on Orange Street from 1976 to 1981...Yeah man,Me deh 'pon me bicycle till I buy my motorcycle..Them days records were coming out left right and centre..everyday'
Ossie Thomas...
It was during his time with Miss Pottinger that Ossie began to produce records for himself and in 1979 Ossie and Phillip Morgan began The Black Solidarity label based deep in the Kingston ghetto on Delamere Avenue.
And the man who had made his name in the business selling other people's records now became one of the most important and influential record producers of the era..
Bomb The Bass is the alias from the English electronic music producer Tim Simenon. He released his debut album Into The Dragon in 1988. It's an intriguing trip through electro, acid-house and hip-hop music. On the album you'll find his breakthrough hit 'Beat Dis', which became popular in the underground and club circuit. It feels like you're listening to a radio broadcast show, including intro skits in a melting pot of styles. A true classic in the history of using samples in music.
Bomb The Bass were one of the first acts to bring sample-based music and scratching to a mainstream audience.
The 30th anniversary edition of Into The Dragon is available as a pressing of 1.500 individually numbered copies on blue vinyl.

Five years into the project, with two acclaimed albums and dozens of triumphant international performances to its name, Yermande announces a thrilling new phase for this Dakar-Berlin collaboration: emphatically a giant step forward. The group of players is boiled down to twelve for recordings, eight for shows, sessions in Dakar become steeply more focussed. 'This time around I was better able to specify what I wanted right from the initial recording sessions in Dakar,' says Ernestus, 'and further in the production process I took more freedom in reducing and editing audio tracks, changing MIDI data, replacing synth sounds and introducing electronic drum samples.Right away you hear music-making which has come startlingly into its own. Rather than submitting to the routine, discrete gradations of recording, producing and mixing, the music is tangibly permeated with deadly intent from the off. Lethally it plays a coiled, clipped, percussive venom and thumping bass against the soaring, open-throated spirituality of Mbene Seck's singing. Plainly expert, drilled and rooted, the drumming is unpredictable, exclamatory, zinging with life. Likewise the production: intuitive and fresh but utterly attentive, limber but hefty, vividly sculpted against a backdrop of cavernous silence. Six chunks of stunning, next-level mbalax, then, funky as anything.Lamb Ji' is traditional wrestling, the most popular sport in Senegal, always introduced by hours of drumming, gris-gris magic and dancing (led by the fighters themselves). Born into the Momori griot clan in Tivaouane, Mbene moved as a teenager to Pikine on the outskirts of Dakar, where the late, great Ndongo Lo was first to invite her to sing at lamb events. Still a hard-core fan, here she pays hommage to all the popular fighters of recent times.Evoking the ancient cultural legacy of the griots, 'Walo Walo' is also the name of the sabar rhythm underlying this track, which features Ibou Mbaye's percussive synth-work, Mangone Ndiaye Dieng's kit-drumming, and Bada Seck's rigorous jolts of lower-pitched thiol drum.
'Simb' ('lion') refers to traditional drumming and dancing events, at which a cavorting 'faux lion' puts the frighteners on audience-members. 'This was most the most difficult one to mix,' recalls Ernestus, 'in the end the most reduced from its recording.'
'Jigeen' means 'woman'. 'Man should know every woman is your mother. Cherish a woman. Respect a woman's dignity. My friend, don't talk bad about a woman. My mother, my father, my family, my friends, it has been hard. Look after the people who were there when you had nothing.A tribute to the Baye Fall leader, Ndiguel is the most traditional cut on the album, showcasing Assane Ndoye Cisse's insinuating guitar lines, Laye Lo's super-elasticated snare-drumming, and Bada Seck playing the khine drums associated with the Baye Fall. (Short and wide, lightweight but low.) Yermande takes a former associate to task. 'Stop prompting the witchdoctor to curse us. Leave people alone and let them go their own way. Take yours, leave ours to us. Don't put anyone down without knowing what their parents have sacrificed. Keep a clean heart and don't wish anyone ill. What you wish for yourself, wish for others. Don't steal my clothes, they don't fit you. Leave badness, life is too short for that.' Like Lamb Ji and Simb, featuring all four sabar players: Bada Seck, Serigne Mamoune Seck, Abou Salla Seck and Alioune Seck. Abdourakhmane Fall's no-flim-flam bass-playing well and truly drops anchor.

* As we all know, reggae music was created in the Ghettos and has helped many people in their struggle & creating many opportunities for those who worked hard for it. Reggae developed its own alternative industry with the support of sound systems and gave opportunities to so many deejays, toaster and singers. In Brasil, with the rise of sound systems inspired by the UK and JA scene, Monkey Jhayam was one of the first artists to express his art and also build a solid and prominent career alongside many sound systems in his country. Out of São Mateus, Monkey broke barriers and has been collaborating with producers from all over the world with his uplifting Portuguese message.
Kendrick Andy's Roots song 'Great Old Men' lends itself to a new version by the major Brasillian Reggae artist, Monkey Jhayam. The 7 single features back to back versions, both in English (A) and Portugese (B). Rhythm: Alien Dread. The tracks also feature Alvin Davis (Hornz), Asha B (Congos & Percussion) and Rhythm/Lead Guitar by Steven 'Marley' Wright.
Tom Misch announces the release of his highly ant cipated debut album 'Geography' via his own label Beyond The Groove / Kobalt Music Recordings for an April 6th release. The artwork was created by Tom's mother Carol who has consistently contributed
to visuals for his previous releases. The silhouet es of Tom facing himself represent challenging himself to create a new landscape in his different moods and stages of creat vity. Woven in with ideas of contour lines and illusion we see one thing, then another, in the same way that music has its own mult layered language.
This release sees Tom exploring his songwrit ng and his own vocals, singing on most of the tracks plus excit ng features st ll to be announced, we get our rst preview with the tender vocals featured on 'Movie'. 'Geography' is an explorat on of a musical landscape, named af er a passion of Tom's which was never pursued, it dances between genres including Disco, Soul, Hip-Hop and Jazz, a true testament to Tom's diverse sound and genre uidity. Having self-released all music to-date (Beat Tape 1, Beat Tape 2, Reverie EP and 5 Day Mischon), mult -instrumentalist Tom Misch has built an auspicious online
fan base which includes 183,000 on Soundcloud, 103,000 across Facebook, 73,000 via Instagram, 33,000 on Twit er and a staggering 120 million streams across Spot fy and Apple. He has also had a range of sold out shows from headlining Somerset House to most recently delivering performances at Printworks and Ronnie Scot 's, with t ckets going in record t me.
South London is burst n g with creat vity, new art sts are refusing the convent onal music industry model - they're collaborat ng and releasing freely, driven by the power of the internet. Tom is part of a truly excit ng scene which also includes rising stars such as, Loyle Carner, Jordan Rakei, Cosmo Pyke, Laura Misch & Poppy Ajudha. Tom's music has been championed by an eclect c array of supporters - from one of YouTube's biggest dance music channels, Majest c Casual, to the likes of Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Clara Amfo and Jaden Smith. Plus, there's the fact that Tom has earned the reputat on as one of the best UK producers following remixes and reworks for the likes of Lianne La Havas, Mos Def and Busta Rhymes.

Theomatic is back with a surprise 12-inch from the label's mainman An-2. Mint EP is a collection of four space-boogie jams spanning a variety of moods and tempos that have been recorded over the period of last couple of years. The lo-fi beats and pulsating kalimba-esque arpeggios on 'Sigint' create an instant feel of a sci-fi movie soundtrack, while an ultra-deep kick drum and a punchy bass on 'Mint' is a sure way to test your speaker performance. Things get more chilled and pensive on the flipside with 'Dusky Downtown''s brooding synthwork and rolling pads taking you on a stroll along glittering neon-lit city streets. Last, but not least, Amberflame's take on 'Dusky Downtown' is a steaming affair that uses tight compression and lush synths and to create that special euphoric dancefloor moment.

Producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter
and vocalist Devonte Hynes returns with his fourth
album as Blood Orange, 'Negro Swan'. His last album,
'Freetown Sound', was released to critical acclaim in
2016 and saw Hynes defined as one of the foremost
musical voices of his time, receiving comparisons to
the likes of Kendrick Lamar and D'Angelo for his own
searing and soothing personal document of life as a
black man in America. He has collaborated with
Solange, FKA twigs and many other artists.
On his new album Hynes says, 'My newest album is
an exploration into my own and many types of black
depression, an honest look at the corners of black
existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people
of color. A reach back into childhood and modern
traumas, and the things we do to get through it all.
The underlying thread through each piece on the
album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try
to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive
outcome of helping others out of their darkness.'

* Sixteen carefully selected tracks including their most renowned work
* Covering Funkadelic at the height of their career (1970-1976)
* Double LP set that comes with OBI-strip, Limited to 1000 copies
Tidal Waves Music proudly presents: FUNKADELIC Finest
Compilations are tricky and hard to get right ... Finest is that rare one that knocks it out of the park. This release focuses on George Clinton and crew at the height of their career & on their most renowned work.
Comprised out of sixteen carefully selected tracks and covering a six-year period (1970-1976) Finest may be the best-assembled Funkadelic collection from this period yet, as both renowned band standards share space with several oft-overlooked tracks.
The early tracks "I Got a Thing" and "I Wanna Know if It's Good to You" show the band-members still honing their rich 'n' funky sound, before they hit their stride with selections from the classic 'Maggot Brain' album. As a result, you get a healthy sampling of some of the best funk the '70s had to offer, including "Hit It and Quit It," "You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks," "Loose Booty," "Cosmic Slop," "Red Hot Mama," and "Get Off Your Ass and Jam."
Finest is an exceptional sampler for those discovering the wild and wacky universe of Funkadelic. Out of print since 1997 and transferred from the original analogue master tapes, now finally back available as a deluxe Double-LP set with some of the craziest psychedelic crumb-style artwork you'll ever see.

The Soul Brothers Inc. hail from Houston, Texas and were likely one of the most important funk/soul groups in the city in the late 1960s until they broke up in the mid '70s. Tramp released The Story of the Soul Bros. Inc. in late 2010, now it is time to pick two lesser known songs for release on 45rpm single. Both sides are equally great, especially Put It On Him with its heavy drums and and wah wah guitar throughout the song.

In the mid eighties FM radio stations took over the airwaves in Nigeria. They wanted fresh new styles to play andin creasingly radio personalities like Bisi Olatilo, Ruime Effetie and Shea Martins were turning to reggae. Nigeria's Freak Father Number One, Benis Cletin, saw the writing on the wall and created his deeply philosophical roots reggae opus, 'Alpha & Omega'. Benis delivered a set of songs that tapped unashamedly into reggae's message of peace and love. The title track is a philosophical opus on the state of the world and how to live in it. 'Unqualified' warns against letting others tell you how to live. 'Guns for Freedom' is more militant call to arms, undercut by a lilting flute line from the legendary Eji Oyewole. Benis didn't completely abandon his freaky, funky roots. 'Soul Fever' is a slab of synth-driven boogie and 'Get Up And Dance' is pure funk with that typical Benis freak edge. But overall, 'Alhpa and Omega' is designed to soothe the minds of the oppressed in this unjust world - an African roots reggae classic that sounded great on FM radio.

The prophets of fake/punk jazz return. The great thing about Blurt is that some decades on from seminal classics such as My Mother Was A Friend Of An Enemy Of The People and The Fish Needs A Bike the band is still creating vital new music - with similarly remarkable song titles! The inventiveness of Ted Milton's sax/guitar/drums line-up remains undimmed - Giant Lizards On High grabs you by the scruff of the neck, forcing you to do the jerk (or whatever your favoured dance step is) from the off. Mesmeric, funky guitar and drum patterns played by Steve Eagles and Dave Aylward respectively provide the perfect foil for Milton's trademark abrasive saxophone melodies and cracked vocals, culminating in the shoutalong refrain at the end 'Go forth and multiply' - every schoolboys' favourite way to tell the world to Eff Off with a cheeky grin on his face. Flip the disc - once you can stop repeat-playing the A-side - and you'll find the similarly infectious Fresh Meat For Martyrs ready and waiting for you with punky-reggae grooves and yet more pseudovirtuosic saxophony filling the spaces. Once more it's hard to stop dropping the needle back at the start once the echoes have faded at the end. Thirty-five years on Blurt is still in it's prime - the band that trumpet maestro Don Cherry once said reminded him of his early days with Ornette Coleman when they were at the cutting edge of the avant-garde. Praise from the top indeed. Live : Single Launch Weekend : November 22 - Blurt live at Stroud Valley Arts, November 23 - Blurt live at Birthdays, London N16.

'I've Been Loving You' sees Manford Best finally laying the ghosts of The Wings to rest and emerge as a serious player in the glittering new world of Afro boogie. Recorded in London, with Nigerian super producer, Jake Sollo, at the desk, it is a highly polished collection of disco classics, guaranteed to fill any dance floor in the world. The title track gets the party started with an irresistible bass line and chirpy horn section. Written by Best while he was still in The Wings, the song is unrecognisable from the one that topped the Nigerian charts in 1973. 'Let's Spend The Night Together' has a groove that suggests Manford has the dance floor on his mind, not the bedroom. 'I Feel Like Dancing', written by Jake Sollo and featuring the vocals of Nigerian diva, Pat Henry, is sophisticated and sexy and a stone cold classic of the era. 'I've Been Loving You' is an extraordinary metamorphosis. Manford Best, the rough and ready guitarist from the back blocks of eastern Nigeria, emerges as a glittering 'disco' butterfly, ready to strut the dance floors of London - and the world.

First Time Out is a cosmic soul transmission from Nigeria's own Diana Ross, Theadora Ifudu. The arty co-host of hit TV program, 'The Bar Beach Show' hooked up with the guys from Monomono to created an album that is sultry, sexy and effortlessly cool. It's a smoky, New York Soul Club on wax. A graduate of the New York film school, Ifudu considered herself an artiste, and the opening track, 'Hello There!' Is arresting in its cinematic scope and intriguing strangeness. After briefly channelling Miriam Makes in 'Gbata Ngwa', she moves into full diva mode. '(When Will It Be) Right Time' features vocal runs that Mariah Carey would be proud of and 'That Man' has a smoky, jazz club vibe. It's easy to imagine Theadora, under a single spotlight, dazzling in a sparkling figure-hugging crowd, holding a hard-to-please New York audience in her thrall. At times funky, laidback and smooth, the greatest compliment that can be paid to First Time Out is that it sounds international. The musicianship is first class, the vocals faultless and the mood super smooth. Theadora Ifudu, the self-proclaimed 'moon watcher, ragdoll and artiste', created an Afro soul masterpiece for the ages. - Peter Moore,
When you are in with Uebertribe, there is no misleading: "We make no fuss and there is no need to discuss. With us, it is all about funk," says Legbo, guitarist extraordinaire and head of the freaky funk collective from Hamburg. "Brand New U" is their debut album and yes, it is very much about finding your direction, and being - or sometimers not being - in peace with yourself and the world around you.
"The concept of Uebertribe has been in mind for about 10 years now. At that time I was playing with Diazpora and it was already clear, that we would never be able to finish all ideas that we had - life is short and they were just too many," Legbo recalls. "Apparently I needed another funk band, and while touring with a hip hop band,I found a drummer - Martin Kahl - who just felt right."
Uebertribe can be seen as an offspring of Hamburg funk scene - a lively witches brew of underground parties, bands and musicians. Their early pre-incarnation was visible during the legendary "We Call It Funk" session series in 2011, where they played many unfairly unknown funk treasures including some cover versions of the Nineties German funk band Zappelbude (which consisted of German jazz legends, pianist Robert Di Gioia and drummer Wolfgang Haffner). Same year later - in November 2011 - Uebertribe was born.
The first single, though, in true funk style, was an instrumental. "Game Over" was released on the Hamburg specialist 7inch label Our Label Records, with a released party hosted in the newly re-opened Mojo Club.
Uebertribe continued playing live but focussed on recording the songs for the debut album, produced by Dennis Rux in his fully analogue Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Studios. The result is a bona fide funk album, rough and raw. A newly recorded version of "Game Over" sets the pace, followed by the staccato rhythms of the title track and the slow and badass grooving "Shake". After the psychedelic, Asian style and heavy horn excursion of "Ying Yang Kutsk" Uebertribe show they have some pop appeal with the Prince tribute and first single "Purple Pearl".
"Don't Treble Me" would work well on a late Sixties hippie festival, while the lazy and catchy "I Won't Go To Bed" lives up to its title. "In A Matter Of Seconds" takes on some pace and leads towards the furious closing number which is "The Thief",sounding like a theme tune of a lost Sixties movie. "We have our roots in raw funk. But we also love Afrobeat, P-Funk and Jazz," Legbo explains. "To be honest, we try to put some Voodoo on all of it, if you know what I mean."
While Uebertribe now established themselves as a consistent live act and went through some personal changes, drummer Martin Kahl, bassist Daniel Vorpahl and guitarist Legbo started writing their own new songs and added Jamaican born singer Ray Darwin, who has been living and recording in Germany for some years as their fresh regular vocalist not yet featured on "Brand New U", but in all future releases and live shows.

In Sudan, the political and cultural are inseparable. In 1989, a coup brought a hardline religious government to power. Music was violently condemned. Many musicians and artists were persecuted, tortured, forced to flee into exile — and even murdered, ending one of the most beloved music eras in all of Africa and largely denying Sudan's gifted instrumentalists, singers, and poets, from strutting their creative heritage on the global stage.
What came before in a special era that protected and promoted the arts was one of the richest music scenes anywhere in the world. Although Sudanese styles are endlessly diverse, this compilation celebrates the golden sound of the capital, Khartoum. Each chapter of the cosmopolitan city's tumultuous musical story is covered through 16 tracks: from the hypnotic violin and accordion-driven orchestral music of the 1970s that captured the ears and hearts of Africa and the Arabic-speaking world, to the synthesizer and drum machine music of the 1980s, and the music produced in exile in the 1990s. The deep kicks of tum tum and Nubian rhythms keep the sound infectious.
Sudan of old had music everywhere: roving sound systems and ubiquitous bands and orchestras kept Khartoum's sharply dressed youth on their feet. Live music was integral to cultural life, producing a catalog of concert recordings. In small arenas and large outdoor venues, musical royalty of the day built Khartoum's reputation as ground zero for innovation and technique that inspired a continent.
Musicians in Ethiopia and Somalia frequently point to Sudan's biggest golden era stars as idols. Mention Mohammed Wardi — a legendary Sudanese singer and activist akin to Fela Kuti in stature and impact in his music and politics — and they often look to the heavens. A popular story is of one man from Mali who walked for three months across the Sahel to Sudan because the father of the woman he wanted to marry would only allow it if he got him a signed cassette from Wardi himself. Saied Khalifa is said to be the one of the few singers to make Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie smile.
Such is the stature of Sudanese singers and the reputation of Sudanese music, particularly in the "Sudanic Belt," a cultural zone that stretches from Djibouti all the way west to Mauritania, covering much of the Sahara and the Sahel, lands where Sudanese artists are household names and Sudanese poems are regularly used as lyrics until today to produce the latest hits. Sudanese cassettes often sold more in Cameroon and Nigeria than at home.
But years of anti-music sentiment have made recordings in Sudan difficult to source. Ostinato's team traveled to Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, and Egypt in search of the timeless cultural artifacts that hold the story of one of Africa's most mesmerizing cultures. That these cassette tape and vinyl recordings were mainly found in Sudan's neighbors is a testament to Sudanese music's widespread appeal.
With our Sudanese partner and co-compiler Tamador Sheikh Eldin Gibreel, a once famous poet and actress in '70s Khartoum, Ostinato's fifth album, following our Grammy-nominated "Sweet As Broken Dates," revives the enchanting harmonies, haunting melodies, and relentless rhythms of Sudan's brightest years, fully restored, remastered and packaged luxuriously in a triple LP gatefold and double CD bookcase to match the regal repute of Sudanese music.
A 20,000-word liner note booklet gives voice to the singers silenced by an oppressive regime.
Take a sail down the Blue and White Nile as they pass through Khartoum, carrying with them an ancient history and a never-ending stream of poems and songs. It takes two Niles to sing a melody.
We at ZamZam have long been fans of Schlachthofbronx's genre-smashing club tracks that harness and hybridize bass music styles from Germany, UK, Jamaica, Mexico, Brazil, and beyond. But when we heard the dark dub of last year's 'Blurred Vision' we knew we had to reach out. Little did we know the duo was already into ZamZam, paving the way to an eagerly anticipated release championed on dubplate by selectors from The Bug to O.B.F. to Toddla T.
The Munich pair's ZamZam pushes a sound that's intutive and familiar, yet unlike anything else out there. Schlachthofbronx have carved out an absolutely unique and steely-eyed take on punishing dubwise informed not only by post-punk, house, electro, industrial, and traditional dub reggae principles, but by the legendary 60,000 watt Elemental Wave rig they host their Blurred Vision night on. Imagine an alternative musical universe where PIL, Mad Professor, and Basic Channel hole up in the Batcave for a pitch-black sound system rave and you're getting the picture.
'Dun Dem''s ring-modulating lead works its way into unsuspecting ears while the projectile kick drum calls in an extended intro that builds into one of the most satisfying drops we've ever heard in a steppers tune. A blackened bassline of pure dub fire drives galloping clave and 4/4 sleigh bells deeper and deeper into a flooded cavern of reverb and dark delights.
'Soundbad' is more maximal minimalism, wringing super-saturated color from deceptively simple elements, marrying a massive dub bassline to smeared white noise snares and rockers hi hats, twisting and rebounding lasers and warped FX into claustrophobic reverb traps.
Both tunes were tested, worked, & reworked through Schlachthofbronx' non-stop global touring schedule. Results in the dance speak for themselves - we think you'll have trouble knowing which side to reach for first. Do you want a sound system missile, or a sound system bomb
