London's Ghost Writerz are back with a banger! Following a slew of releases on Tru Thoughts and a recent mixtape "Welcome To Ghost Town" heating up the streets, Jimmy Screech and Sleepy Time Ghost return with a big splash on NICE UP! Records. Based around a familiar reggae riddim, the track tells the tale of Jimmy's foundation in soundsystem culture, starting in the 80s and name-checking legends such as Shabba Ranks, Yellowman, Smiley Culture along the way. As the riddim flips we shift forward a generation, 90s dancehall and rap dominate, giving props to hip hop royalty such as Busta Rhymes and 2Pac, then finally firing off a huge jungle climax, dripping in enough amen breaks to set the dancefloor alight whilst giving a little history of the musical heritage behind Ghost Writerz.

AE Productions in association with In Effect Recordings are proud to present the next installment from Philadelphia legend Phill Most Chill, this time with beats provided by Nova Scotia based DJ/Producer Jorun Bombay, under the guise of Jorun PMC - with a tip of the hat to Hip Hop legends Run DMC. If you've heard either of Jorun's incredible Rock The Discotek mixes you may have heard one or two tracks from this 12' in their early form as parts of those mixes. Here at AE Productions we thought it was a shame that they weren't available as songs in their own right on vinyl so here they are with an extra track for good measure and with more of Phill Most Chill's trademark artwork making the sleeve look incredible!
The EP opens with Can't Stop Won't Stop and gets straight down to business. Phill Most Chill starts on the first beat of the first bar almost as if he can't wait to rock the spot. This is pure party Hip Hop fueled by uptempo Disco Breaks, but don't be fooled by that statement - this is no crossover rap music, we mean the type of party that could be found in parks in New York in the early days of Hip Hop. Listen for a whirlwind of extended turntable action from Jorun who slices like a food processor throughout.
Magic Disco Machine stays with the classic Disco Break sound with various nods to Block Party Classics which create a great club friendly track. Again with some serious turntable skills from Jorun to complement Phill's hype rhymes, this is the brand new exclusive track for this release and has all the credentials of a summer party classic.
The final track here The Champ stays with the classic block party theme but this time utilising a raw Funk groove that will be a surefire hit with B-Boys and B-Girls worldwide and shouldn't fail to get any Hip Hop party moving. This could be considered the most underground sounding of the three tracks assembled here.
Marking sixty years of Bossa Nova, and twenty years since Marcos Valle's first release for Far Out Recordings, what better time to bring back this era-defining classic from the Brazilian master composer
Throughout his astounding six-decade career, infiltrating pop, bossa nova, samba, delicate psychedelia, jazz and funk, Marcos Valle has consistently shown a dogged determination to transcend the traditions and structures of bossa nova, whilst never veering away from the movement's inherent, fundamental spirit. To some extent, his epithet 'the original Rio beach boy' is a handy one: it reflects the origin and character of his often sun-soaked sound, but expounding his importance in the lineage of Brazilian music, he is more discerningly known as 'the renaissance man of Brazilian pop'. He is indeed one the very greatest and most important composers, arrangers, writers and performers in Brazil.
Up until Nova Bossa Nova, Marcos Valle hadn't released an album for well over a decade. After 1983, he resented the way the music industry had changed with commercialisation and new demands curtailing his creative freedom. This was until 1994 when Marcos met Far Out boss Joe Davis and they recorded a track for Far Out's first Friends From Rio album. This new collaborative partnership resulted in a new solo album, which commenced recording in 1996.
Nova Bossa Nova brought Marcos bouncing back into the 90s, slotting nicely in place alongside the acid jazz movement as well as a voracious new demand for Brazilian music on dancefloors from London to Tokyo. It was witnessing the London club scene's growing appetite for Brazilian music, as well as a lack of new sounds coming out of Brazil at the time, that a young Joe Davis put in a proposal to record a new album with one of his musical idols. Joe wanted to facilitate an album which would combine the latest technologies and production techniques, with live to analogue tape recording: a Marcos Valle album tailor-made for London's clubs. Always open to modern influences and possibilities, Marcos agreed to the project, and Joe and his production partner Roc Hunter flew to Rio in '96. The record wasn't released until '98, as the original ½ inch tapes were stolen from Far Out's London studio, meaning parts of the album had to be re-recorded.
Nova Bossa Nova was unveiled at the peak of the of the Brazilian movement, the record would also prove to be something of a revolution, inspiring a new generation of artists like Bebel Gilberto, Sabrina Malheiros, Da Lata and Bossacucanova, who continued to fuse Brazilian influences with modern electronic sounds.

Originally released in 1972, Lord Of Lords was Alice Coltrane's final album for Impulse! and the last installment in her awe-inspiring trilogy that also included Universal Consciousness and World Galaxy. While all three records featured strings alongside a jazz ensemble, Lords Of Lords stood apart from its predecessors due to the sheer size of the orchestra (12 violins, 6 violas and 7 cellos, arranged and conducted by Coltrane herself) and its refined, blissful performances - shining a vital light on the devotional path that she would follow for the rest of her career.
On the first two pieces, "Andromeda's Suffering" and "Sri Rama Ohnedaruth" (titled after the spiritual name for her late husband), Alice's dazzling piano and harp blend perfectly with the blanket of strings, while the haunting rhythm section of Charlie Haden and Ben Riley and a magnificent, droning electric organ emerge immaculately on the title track and closer "Going Home." Coltrane's musical vision is bold in its imagination and cosmic in scope, yet remains intensely personal and immediate. Lord Of Lords points inward as much as to the beyond, recalling her classical roots and recasting Eastern modes to radically invert the American avant-garde and spiritual jazz traditions.
This first-time vinyl reissue has been carefully remastered from the original master tapes.

Münzer Is Joined By Gerhard Spirka On Electric Bass, Val Hargreaves On Drums, Karl-heinz Merkel On Fender Rhodes And Occasionally Jörg Gebhardt On Congas. However, The Finished Lp Did Not Appear In Shops. It Was Exclusively Available To Broadcasters And Foreign Sub-publishers By Nagel's Publisher "badenia-vineta", For Use On Radio And Television. The Track Is Frequently Played At Trüby's "rootdown" Parties And You Just Had To Have It! In Addition To The High Musical Quality, It Is Above All The Rarity And Obscurity Of The Record That Makes It Interesting For Djs And Collectors Alike Around The World Today.

For those of you that recall Dr Rubberfunk's second album - 'My Life at 33' you will have memories of a simpler time in the music industry before the onset of streaming when you could justifiably name an album after a physical music format! My life as a playlist addition just doesn't have the same ring...
Sticking with the theme 'My Life At 45' was conceived. A special series of Dr Rubberfunk 7" vinyl releases to celebrate his funky self via the medium.
The A-side 'How Beautiful' first made an appearance on 'Jalapeno Funk Vol. 9' and left a lasting impression with it's mellow psychedelic funk feels, jazz guitar licks and crunchier-than-granola drums. This special new 7" version wraps up all those lovely bits into a neat little mix that's perfect for a 45 and the obvious choice to kick off the series and offer the wax spinners out there...
And speaking of DJ's and drums we've kindly included a track of only those drums for those who like to get creative with that kind of thing and have some fun on the decks.
Also living on the flip side is the second full track - the brand new exclusive - 'Pressure Cooker'. It's a funk tinged blues instrumental a la Booker T & the MG's complete with Hammond, exemplary guitar, obligatory drum breaks and a solid bassline to get you nodding.

The California EP pays homage to Diplo's first full-length release, Florida, where he spent much of his youth. The sonics on California share a similar tone: slow, vibey, & melancholic, a bit of a departure from the sound he has been known for in recent years. The EP is much more than just a handful of tracks, it's an introspective body of work.
NCEE Band, one of D.C.'s rarest bands released their lone single 'Say You Want To Party Pt. 1'/Wink on Georgia Avenue Records. AK1214, Better Time of Day, previously unreleased although recorded in 1983, sends out cosmic echoes of funk, optimism and boogie.

Low Jack's Editions Gravats yield a killer debut of lean, mean reggaeton/dancehall mutations by Clara! Y Maoupa on the club-ready BZH series.
Following Low Jack's feverishly received 'Riddims du Lieu-dit' pack and the recent 3rd volume to Clara!'s cult, female MC-focussed 'Reggaetoneras' mixtapes, 'Meneo' slings three vocal cuts, plus two instrumentals and an acapella, serving to remarkably reveal Clara! as a cool and deadly vocalist and producer alongside Brussels-based Maoupa Mazzocchetti, who's best known for his EBM/industrial misshapes on Mannequin, and as member of An Ultimate DJ for PRR! PRR!
Hailing from Spain's northern coast, Clara! presents a unique spin on the imported reggaeton stylesshe grew up listening to and eventually DJing at beach parties in her home region, before moving to Paris and Brussels. Combined with the more industrial rub and tug of Maoupa Mazzocchetti on the instrumentals, they render a piquant spin on reggaeton proper in Ruge, where Clara! masterfully glydes over acidic bass and dembow drums, also handily included as instrumental and acapella.
Flipside, on 'El Ratón' they resurrect and version the seminal '90 bashment anthem 'Playground
Riddim', tilting it 20 years forward with resonant tweaks and plasmic textures infiltrated by another effortlessly slinky and on-point vocal from Clara!, before the duo really push the prism with the paso-doble vamps and raving chicanery of 'Discordia', the EP's maddest and hyper-colourful number, again featuring Clara!'s wickedly poised and playful vocal.
The result is a delectable new take on Caribbean futurism, presenting Clara! as a vocalist to be reckoned with, and rendering a whole new angle to Maoupa Mazzocchetti's production style after years of gristly, technoid beat-offs. In other words: pure heat for fans of Equiknoxx, Low Jack, LAPS, The Bug.

On Ultra Satans second 7inch release on Hoga Nord Rekords, the band is developing a new genre and concept: 'Freedom Rock', which is also the title on one of the tracks. 'Freedom Rock' is a step beyond 'World Music' which would be the wrong label when Ultra Satan sounds too spaced out and out of this world.
On the second track 'Anti Clock', Ultra Satan hit strikes against the hysterical Swedish mortgage market, how safety destroys creativity and also against the worthless tokens of appreciation you receive from our corrupt and ultra capitalistic society.
Ultra Satan is like a space being, living alone in an enormously big and empty space station, orbiting our planet. With mathematical precision this genius creates music that effects us earthlings on a transcendental plane and shakes the foundation we lead or lives upon.

Rebel Wizard continues to create music that stands apart from what most metal bands are doing. There is something about this music that masterfully captures so much of what attracted so many of us to heavy metal early on and has continued fueling our addiction he fantasy and the ferocity, the wild energy of a pure adrenaline rush, the guitar virtuosity, the head-moving rhythms, the heroic melodies and combines all that with the terrifying intensity of black metal shrieking pushed to the limit.

Care in the Community recordings release a 7" single of Lark's Can I Colour In Your Hair featuring a flip side dub version by renowned DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, adding to past re-workings of Lark songs by artists such as Scritti Politti's Green Gartside, Erol Alkan and producer Brendan Lynch (Primal Scream).
The label released Lark's first two albums; the 'sharp and clever' (Quietus) debut ,Shop, and the purely solo effort of song writer and front man Karl Bielik, I Don't Got, which Uncut noted '...throws up myriad references - Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits' junkyard jazz, early Human League - but the wonky, unsettling world it creates is completely Bielik's own.' (4/5).
Can I Colour In Your Hair dates from the period that formed Lark's debut and was always intended for its own vinyl cut. While the Andrew Weatherall version that followed, a while later, featured in his BBC6 music 6 mix and gained traction in his club sets, the physical record has proved elusive until now.
Can I colour In Your Hair is coinciding with the release Larks next album, The Last Woman,on Standard Lamp Records.
SELECTED PRESS AND RADIO:
Gideon Coe BBC6 Music plays Weatherall Version
Andrew Weatherall BBC6 Music plays both tracks
ALBUM FUNNY MAN 'A dark subcurrent of industrial noise runs under raspy vocals punctuated by driving basslines that fuel this idiosyncratic album' - 4/5 MOJO

ALBUM I DON'T GOT (CARE106)Lark are fronted by abstract painter Karl Bielik, who hollers and shrieks his way through these 15 tracks, sometimes resembling Nick Cave's baritone-voiced preacherman ('The Bible Rhymer'), sometimes lurching off into a demented falsetto ('Palucca'), and occasionally sounding like Mark E Smith fronting The Cramps ('The Scream').
His Beefheart-ish backing band maintain a similarly unhinged and studiedly amateurish variety of skronk - all squalling guitars, one-fingered basslines and plinky-plonky Casiotones. It throws up myriad references - Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits' junkyard jazz, early Human League - but the wonky, unsettling world it creates is completely Bielik's own.' John Lewis 4/5 UNCUT

Ultimate Block Party Breaks Volume 5 continues the tradition that began in the Bronx in the 1970s where 'Break DJs' would take that one part of the record that dancers would go absolutely crazy for. That part where all the music breaks down to nothing but the essence: drums and percussion. These are all truly timeless beats that sound as fresh today as they did when the founding fathers like Kool Herc, Bam, Flash and Hollywood were catching them for the first time in community centers throughout the city. We've edited and extended these breaks for maximum effect on the dance floor - so you don't have to. Enjoy!

Rod Lee is back on Dress 2 Sweat, and this time we're bringing the old with the new (and exclusive) plus a devastating remix from man of the minute Rustie. The title track is a never before released piece of original club music from the Club King. None of the generic Bmore breaks or samples, this is essentially just an upbeat hip hop track with Rod Lee rapping over the top. There's an accapella included for the remixers and adventurous DJs, and the air horn classic "Oh Yeah" probably one of the finest hype tracks to come out of Maryland. But the pick of this whole EP is probably Rustie's remix.

Second up on our Bobby Boyd unreleased recording we have some dope mid 80s material from Bobby, 'I Like What You Do To Me' is Boogie / Proto House joint that is totally my bag, feels like it should be in a 80s movie weightlifting montage (in a good way) it just works on the dance floor so well.
On the flip things get even stronger with the proto-house banger 'Girl Like You' a sick soulful number with with a biggest swinging kick drum I have ever heard, both proper club material.
If your not a rare soul or disco collector Bobby's name might not be a name your familiar with but as one of the founder members of Lafayette Afro Rock Band you will have experienced his music and influence which is far reaching.
Spiritual afro jazz funk with west indies and latin influences by Georges-Edouard Nouel, this jazz pianist from Martinique is better known for his collaboration with Noel McGhie, Steve Potts or Roland Brival but his only album is just a masterpiece, essential to any lovers of deep jazz records.. (2017 REPRESS/REMASTERED) One of the more delicate recordings of Sun Ra's 28-strong Arkestra, 'Sleeping Beauty' drifts in on a cloud of cosmic dust, sounding unlike anything before or after. With drummer Luqman Ali keeping the narcotic funk, but with dreamy solos from other key Arkestra players like John Gilmore, Michael Ray, and Marshall Allen, no Sun Ra collection is complete without this LP. Inspired space-age lullaby music. Tip!
