This track first appeared on Alpha & Omega's Overstanding' LP from 1991, and was originally voiced by Nishka. The vocals featured on this remix version were recorded by Paul Fox at a later stage. Some of the original stems have also been used here and others have been re-recorded and reprogrammed.

On the B side we find of course a dub version. In this case, out of the different dub mixes, the dubplate mix was chosen to go on the record.

Such as the record itself called "Alcazar", the second single "Chaos" takes its influence from the golden age boom-bap era of hip-hop, that is smooth as velvet and helps transmit its message of social critique, love and hope.
Woxow's message has been perfectly delivered by 2 great rappers, Akil the Mc from Jurassic 5 (who do not need any introduction) and Blurum13 (well known for his works with Dj Vadim's "One Self"), while on the other side the chorus sang by the legendary Ken Boothe from Jamaica sounds like an absolutely extraordinary event (as Mr. Boothe doesn't go very often for featuring nowadays), topping the tune with his still outstanding soulful voice with a touch that recall the "work songs" feeling.

B-Side:

From the moment John Turrell heard label mate Izo FitzRoy's debut album "Skyline" he knew they had to work together and started adapting a song he was working on "You're Gone" with her in mind.

The result is an absolute ear worm of uplifting chic style instrumentation combined with haunting lyrics - disco dynamite delivered with feeling as John & Izo's vocals perfectly encapsulate the balance of frustration, pride and vulnerability present in a lovers argument.

The flipside is the undeniably pretty 'A Deckham Love Song' - a smooth slice of sublime songwriting with a Richard Hawley-esque tongue-in-cheek look back at a childhood spent in Deckham. The Devonns are a new soul band from Chicago, Illinois. Raised on a strict diet of 60s and 70s Soul music, despite their very young age the lads have very clear in their mind what to do. Pulling from influences such as The Impressions, Leroy Hutson, The Bar-Kays, Carole King, The Isley Brothers, Leon Ware as well as from contemporary acts such as Raphael Saadiq and Jamie Lidell, The Devonns' main focus is on exploring the elements of songwriting and arranging/production that made music from 1965 on.

Wrote in 10 minutes, completely on a $300 Danelectro singlecut guitar and recorded at Kingsize Sound Labs in Chicago, the super soulful debut single "Come Back" sees the participation of some top-notch musicians such as Paul Von Mertens (Mavis Staples, Paul McCartney, Elton John) who arranged the string section and Ken Stringfellow (R.E.M) as a special guest on guitar and percussions. The single is appetizer of their debut full length which is scheduled to be released on Record Kicks next autumn. "Come Back" hit the streets next June the 08th on digital download and limited edition 45 vinyl.

Started in 2016 by the singer and songwriter Mathew Ajjarapu who, after he dropped out of med school found himself drawn over and over to underground soul hits becoming hooked on their steady groove and impeccable production and arranging values, The Devonns see the rhythm duty entrusted to Khalyle Hagood (bass) and Khori Wilson (drums), while Cam Cunningham is on the guitar.

For our next Excursion, we're off to the library. In search of library records that is - you know the type, the crazy rare records used for soundtracks and such and such. We have a sick selection of synthed-up beats and pieces chopped together by one Earl Jeffers, making the most out of his international library digging card* (*not a real thing).

For those that don't know, Cardiff's Earl Jeffers is one half of Darkhouse Family, regular family at our sister label, First Word, on which they released their debut album 'The Offering' late last year. Earl is a prolific producer in his own right, also releasing over the years under the aliases Chesus and Metabeats on labels like MCDE, Fat City and Local Talk, collaborating with artists like Byron The Aquarius, Action Bronson and Kamaal Williams / Henry Wu, turning his hand ably to house, hip hop, jungle, jazz and more. All this in addition to running his own label, Mélange Records.

A dedicated digger and record collector first and foremost, Earl has provided us with a quadruple set of heavyweight stuttery sci-fi boom bap. In Earl's words: "This record was mostly inspired by my penchant for the more electronic / synthesized jams, mostly replayed from the original compositions then thrust in to 2028 and beyond...."

He Combined Some Of His Recordings On The 1970 Album What Am I To Do. The Title Track By Tony Scott Is The Most Famous Song That Can Be Found On This Album. Aotearoa. New Zealand, nineteen seventy something. Bottom of the South Pacific - the largest Maori and Polynesian population in the world and ... a nation wanting to groove.
Approx 3 million people. Two islands, hot summers , muddy winters, one tv channel till 1975 and all radio was AM. Cantankerous (and sometimes not so sobre) Prime Minister Rob Muldoon was in his pomp, the economy was in the toilet, and rugby (a national sport and in many parts of NZ , a religion) was a mess played in a mud bath ... the people had to dance!
A constant supply of international soul, funk, and disco releases were available for local issue through the major labels , but things got really interesting when local artists found their soul on vinyl.

Colour, clothes and sex began seeping onto the dance floors, while back at home kids watching music clips on television were turning to their parents: Is that a boy or a girl' New Zealand would never be the same again. A new generation was taking over and they wanted to boogie.
This new group of faces were taking to the dance floors. People like Mr Funky, people who'd stepped out in style and wanted to get down with their own bad self. A funky revolution was brewing with bands that'd been mired in the middle ground now swerving into sounds more suited to the disco than a rugby club social. Other bands were emerging from cabaret and had shifted from being the show to creating the show.
