The new 12'' release from Nyami Nyami records teams up mbira maestro Jacob Mafuleni from Zimbabwe and electro-funk producer Gary Gritness from France, who released a series of 12'' on Clone records in 2015 and collaborated with Orlando Voorn, Dam-Funk or Los Hemanos. Tip!!
Jacob Mafuleni was Chiwoniso's sideman on vocals and mbira on the label's acclaimed first release 'Zvichapera'. He recorded two new tracks in Harare with his wife Martha Thom on vocals and the traditional percussion ocho. Gary Gritness added 808 rhythms and sounds keeping the natural flow of the songs without cutting or sampling the original music. He intuitively produced the talent of Jacob's mbira ceremonies rhythmic patterns on his TR 808 drum machine.
This natural and respectful collaboration resulted in two already classic 'afro techno' tracks Atuka Mondhoro 808 and Chiconi 808.

Continually pushing the boundaries of jazz, funk, electronic music and disco, as expressed through their signature samba swing, the Brazilian mavericks have recreated the energy of those spellbinding seventies' sessions which would launch them into international recognition and confirm their status as one of Brazil's most successful bands. Since the passing of keyboard maestro Jose Roberto Bertrami in 2012, remaining members Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros have worked tirelessly to keep the spirit of Azymuth alive, and to continue the legacy of Bertrami's genius. But Fênix also marks a new era as the Azymuth trio is complete once again, by special guest keyboardist Kiko Continentino. A hugely talented pianist, composer and arranger, Kiko has worked with the likes of Milton Nascimento, Gilberto Gil and Djavan, and the fresh energy and inspiration he has brought to the group is undeniable. The album also features Brazilian percussion legend Robertinho Silva, one of Brazil's most important and influential players.

From the disco-carnival title track to sunny jazz-funk head-nodder Orange Clouds, through to the deep-space samba Corumbá, Azymuth have drawn upon five decades of consummate craftsmanship - which coupled with their endless desire for experimentation and improvisation - has resulted in a 10-track journey encapsulating the full spectrum of Azymuth's brilliantly coloured expressionist fusion. With all the cosmic energy and masterful musicianship you'd expect from the three-man orchestra, Azymuth rise from the ashes!

Recorded in Rio De Janeiro in May 2016 with producers Daniel Maunick and Joe Davis the official release date is set for December 2016, on super-heavyweight vinyl, CD and digitally.

Blunted On Reality is the 1994 debut album by Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel, collectively known as The Fugees. The album contains less political lyrics than their second album The Score (MOVLP068), but there definitively were political intentions.

As Wyclef Jean described the meaning of the title in an interview: When the cop is messing around with somebody for something that the person didn't do and they try to set 'em up, that makes me blunted on reality. When the government is taking money on arms...and that money could be going back to the community it makes me blunted on reality. It's just awareness of what's going on...that's what blunted on reality means...'

The album spawned 3 singles, Nappy Heads', Vocab' and Boof Baf' and started selling big quantities, eventually reaching gold and platinum status, after the release of their critically acclaimed album The Score in 1996.

Chicago born Jeff Liberman is a guitar player in the best tradition of 70s guitar Gods like Hendrix, Trower, Clapton or Zappa. The perfect mix between virtuosity and feeling with a gift for brilliant songwriting. Between 1975 and 1978, Liberman self-released three albums on his own Librah label which were some of the first private pressings to gain recognition amongst psych collectors in the 80s.

For his third album, released in 1978, guitar wizard Jeff Liberman incorporated to his heavy guitar psych style some cool cosmic funk, soul-jazz and A.O.R influences.

Whilst not the first UK dance scene - the mods had that covered - northern soul is the longest running. Those northern clubbers who eschewed late 60s psychedelic fripperies for obscure old soul records with the requisite beat, couldn't have known what they started. After using up all the UK released sides they began digging in the United States and after nearly 50 years the northern soul scene has probably unearthed more great music than any other. All Night Long is our tribute to those pioneers and includes current in-demanders such as The Sensations 'Demanding Man', classics by The Chandlers and Ernest Mosley and a host of other dancefloor friendly masterpieces.

On the 14th October 2016 J&D Records release three exceptional compilations that look at vintage African-American music through the prism of UK club culture. All Night Long, Can You Feel That Beat and Extra Added Soul will be available on CD & double vinyl and are compiled by DJ and award winning compiler Dean Rudland, with stunning artwork from his long-time collaborators The Unknown. Across the three volumes there are 60 tracks of soul, funk and boogie.

Funk was the syncopated groove that emerged in the mid-sixties through hits from James Brown and Dyke and The Blazers. It was a natural development out of rhythm and blues. Thousands of local bands tried to emulate Brown's success, and in the process created a plethora of rare and sought after 45s and album cuts that have been mined by DJs and producers to fill floors or provide breakbeats. Whilst the 20 tracks on this compilation would cost you thousands of pounds to own on their original issue, that isn't really the point. Instead you get to listen to magnificent grooves such as Mickey & The Soul Generations explosive 'Iron Leg', Andrew Brown's blues tinged 'You Made Me Suffer' or the message music of 24 Carat Black.

There is a lot of confusion with regards to the modern soul scene. An off-shoot of northern soul, it initially mixed new release independent soul, with post late-60s soul that didn't fit with the northern scene. They championed a lot of great records, but this was the mid-80s and it now seems odd to describe nearly 50 year old records as modern soul - but somehow the name has stuck. Extra Added Soul luxuriates in this contradiction, as it allows us to mix up the boogie like 'Love Explosion' by Donnell Pittman, with two-step Chicago classics by Elvin Bishop or El Anthony, or the danceable sweet soul of Dyson's Faces with Gil Scott-Heron alike 'Patience' by Rokk. Amongst the twenty tracks there is also room for a touch of Prince on 94 East's exceptional 'If You See Me' and the cosmic soul of Karriem's super rarity 'I Love You'.

Copenhagen representative Shield has been on a constant rise with his innovative contribution to hiphop and drum&bass over the past couple of years. With support fromNoisia, Hype, Skeptical, Alix Perez, The Upbeats, TC and many more, the future is looking bright for the 28 year old scandinavian as he continues to develop his own sound.

Having a master degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music playing classical percussion, Shield has great knowledge when it comes to drums and always had a passion of creating new grooves and unheard rhythms. Inspiration has come from a wide selection of electronic artists and classical music, and has given him the gift of blending it all together in his productions.

Sounding like a vintage scary movie on crack, tracks like "Horrormovie" were given as a free download on his soundcloud page, and got huge response when Ivy Lab played it on their Critical Sound show on RinseFM back in march 2015. The track was also supported by Noisia on their weekly podcast and they even put it on their Favourites Of 2015 tracklist.

With lots of exciting solo projects and collaborations with producers abroad, Shield is also keeping it local. He and his good friend and also MC, Black Daniels, has been making music together for quite some years and they've toured many countries with their energetic live show, produced entirely by Shield himself. Back in 2014 they were invited to Redbull Studios in Copenhagen to record Black Daniels' debut EP. It came out on Black Daniels' own imprint CART Records, and the EP got them playing at some of the biggest festivals in Scandinavia.

With releases on various drum&bass labels such as CART Records, Blackout Music NL, Gun Audio and Nemesis Recordings UK to name a few, Shield strives to produce the full spectrum - yet always with his signature sound. Wether it's drum&bass, hiphop or any kind of breakbeat, Shield always manages to break barriers with his shuffling drums, stabbin' basslines and weird foleys.

While working on her Master thesis in Biotechnology she met the producer Mez. This project will reflect on Soia's own mood swings, from melancholic soul, stream of consciousness turned song, to feel good tunes - always going beyond the surface.
