The latest strictly limited edition 7" and digital release from Fresh Up Records, a label specialising in brand-new, old-sounding synth funk, Moog disco and library sounds. This time, Fresh Up founder Ed DMX brings us two synthy jams using his original DMX Krew name and 80s feel. "Hot Punch" is just what you need to get your party started: an intoxicatingly spicy blend of vintage synths and catch melodies. "My Metro" is a slightly slower laser-boogie instrumental featuring heavy drums and bass backing up some sweet synth and Rhodes grooving.

Athens, Greece DJ and producer mister T. has readied another ace album for the Cold Busted label -- the appropriately titled Funk Around the Sun LP -- and this one is sure to be in heavy rotation. mister T. is a master of instrumental, soulful, and upbeat dance floor funk, and this album further solidifies this fact. Retro party sounds get the beat-down with a playful attitude in twelve funk-tastic tracks, just in time for summer. It's hard to pick highlights, but here's a few: 'Mo Style' has powerful vocals from the '60s era that some may find familiar, but reimagined over funky breaks with rhythmic guitar licks, brassy horns, and soul organs. The horn section comes further front-and-center over the drum spatter of 'Dig This,' with the addition of humor through a sparingly used vocal sample. The third release by French leftfield duo Baron Rétif and Concepción Perez after two EPs on the Musique Large label. It sees them embark on a new direction as their trademark minimal funk flow and singular cosmic hip-hop, is mixed with future dub and soul.



It includes the single 'Where's My Soul' featuring Jacaranda Muse singer Vee Makurati. Unlike many beatmakers, their music is played live, Baron Rétif on drums and sequences and Concepción Perez on the keyboards. Their music is a mixture of their large musical influences, from root reggae to modern beats, infused with soul and jazz.



They have been supported by DJs worldwide, such as Laurent Garnier, Lefto, Gilles Peterson and Michael Ruetten.

The Haggis Horns unmistakable 'Traveller Part Two' is given a new mix for 2014 - the original 12" release of this one changes hands for over £50 a time! There's also Souleance's 'One Step Re-Edit' from their debut EP 'Le Monde', Tall Black Guy's 'The Dark Streets' from '8 Miles To Moenart' album and Lotek's 'Rebel Hifi' from 2010's 'International Rudeboy'. All 4 tracks are guaranteed dance floor destroyers - this is one of those records that discerning DJs won't want to leave home without!

For all intents and purposes, Karl Hector might as well be another nom-de-plume of Jay Whitefield (producer and guitarist for the Poets of Rhythm and the Whitefield Brothers) who, along with Thomas Myland and Zdenko Curlija, founded Karl Hector and The Malcouns in the early 2000s. Alongside Bo Baral, other members of the Poets of Rhythm and crack Munich-based session musicians, Whitefield, Myland and Curlija crafted nearly twenty tracks for their debut, Sahara Swing, an album that swung with influences from across the African diaspora. The trio has since released two vinyl-only EPs: Coomassi will be the last, and is the opening volley of their Unstraight Ahead album, which will see release in summer 2014. As with the release of Tamanrasset and Ngunga Yeti Fofa, these seven songs demonstrate The Malcouns' deft handling of musics from Eastern and Northern Africa alongside Western psychedelia, jazz and funk. '...simultaneously loose-limbed and rigorous, generating a joy tempered by humid paranoia. It's party music that sets you on edge-and it's crucial.'

The Unbelievable Two

The Unbelievable Two recorded their eponymous debut album throughout of 2012 with a vinyl sound and the immediacy of the classic disco recordings in mind. The collection consists of nine solid tracks succeeding in every environment. Of course you can treat "Come On And Dance" and "Cool Breeze" as sure shot club winners, or listen to "Funkin' For Eternity" and "Summer Ride" as two fantastically grooving jams, but then you only get half of the picture. "The Unbelievable Two" as an instrumental album is about finding your own groove, space and freedom in expression.

"Back Together Again" and "Jungle Boogie" may have you guessing if you are a trainspotter in the world of classic funk and disco, but of course this is another couple of irresistable Unbelievable Two originals, break it down to the respectful homage to local Hamburg neighbourhood clubbing "Good Old Days" and you have a modern day analogue boogie monster with a message.

Formed in 1970, Hokis Pokis was a seminal band in the New York disco scene with a handful of underground local hit singles including the highly-sought after 'Nowhere' 'Find What You're Looking For' and 'City Rhythm'.



Releasing several singles from the mid '70s all the way to the '80s, Luv N'Haight has compiled all of Hokis Pokis' musical output into an album which also includes 2 previously unreleased tracks. Remixed and remastered digitally from the original master tapes, the versions on the album are elevated from the already amazing originals with a cleaner sound and harder-hitting bottom end, bridging the gap between dancefloor fanatics in disco's heyday to their modern day counterparts. Never before seen photos along with corresponding liner notes from Bill Brewster are included in the deluxe double-LP package, telling the story of a group of friends that embark on a musical journey that continues to this day. From the beginning of disco's rise to its inevitable decline, hitting a low point with the 'Disco Sucks' movement, to its eventual resurgence in popularity with today's dance-culture, Hokis Pokis has remained together bonded by friendship first, coupled with a shared musical vision that continues to endure.

As the band prepare to tour Japan & Europe (including 2 prestigious shows at The Glastonbury Festival) Freestyle Records is proud to present the brand new 5 track single - Ojo Abameta, a percussive & frenetic number, built on a bed of amazing percussion and topped off with some deeply sweet ensemble horns, the end result is reminiscent of African hi life sounds, which acts as a curtain raiser for forthcoming album Follow The Path.

La Escollera is a wonderful family-run restaurant on Es Cavallet beach, in the middle of the Ses Salines natural reserve. This breathtakingly beautiful stretch of coast is bordered by a small pine forest just past the salt lakes that give neighbouring Las Salinas beach its name. A short walk around the tip of the coast reveals deserted, untouched rocky outcrops with secluded caves, and none of the seaweed that swamps other sections of the coastline. This is the other side of Ibiza, the side that rarely courts the press but makes the island one of the most beautiful places in the world.
La Escollera is owned by Dani González, the son of the Spanish actor Gaspar 'Indio' González, who has been serving delicious food on the island for the past two decades.
Gavin Kendrick has been playing on the terrace which is at the side of the restaurant for several summers, and the space allows him to spin Jazz, Folk, Rare Groove, Hip Hop, House and Soul, to quote him, 'this special time on the island is perfect for really getting inside your music collection, airing the b-sides and album tracks that rarely otherwise get their chance to shine'.
NuNorthern Soul label owner 'Phat' Phil Cooper, no stranger to Ibiza, was invited to play across the festive season of 2013 / 2014 and immediately fell in love with the venue and the fact he could play across the board, delving deep into his collection of rare and wonderful music picked up from years of extensive travelling.

Limited Pressing Of This In-Demand Rare Funky Soul Tune

Drummer Rich Legault, bassist Denny Lewan, singer/guitarist Mike Peace and rhythm guitarist Ben Wiesneiwski were all members of another Wisconsin-based band named Attila and the Huns which later became Filet of Soul. This is their most sought after 45rpm single release, released in 1969 on the Dynamic Sound label. For all deep-funk fans out there, Do Your Own Thing has been recently featured on the compilation album "Feeling Nice Vol.2"(TRLP/CD-9027), compiled by Daniel Wanders and Tobias Kirmayer.
