Hip-Hop Vinyl New Releases - News

Fresh after the success of his superb Sarah Vaughan & Marvin Gaye edits, Marc Rapson comes correct with his amazing debut 7 track EP entitled "Dark vs Light".
Beautiful hip hop/soul grooves combined with lush keys and sublime bass lines create an EP of rare quality. From the forthcoming album.

A stunning new production by Mark Ernestus, drawn from his recordings with some of Senegal's greatest musicians — a griot clan of Sabar drummers from Kaolack in Senegal, led by Bakane Seck, with guest players and vocalists.
Jeri-Jeri's style of Mbalax is swingeingly masterful — heady and hard-grooving, with highly complex, fiercely succinct poly-rhythms — an ancient-futuristic music, mesmeric but sharp as nails, super-charged with drama. Featuring the lovelorn vocals of guest Mbene Diatta Seck, Sabar traditions are fused with furious Afro-Cubanismo, hard funk-rock, and shards of high-life.
Ernestus' nasty, hypnotic, stripped dub — a first in Mbalax — edges in the bass, profiles the talmbat and tungun drums, and scoops the sense out of the vocal

Includes the 1980 hip hop classic 'That's The Joint', which was famously sampled by The Beastie Boys on 'Shake Your Rump', plus Tom Tom Club's 1981 hit Genius Of Love

After the popularity of the Jukebox Jam and Popcorn labels, we have set about work on another, brand new Jazzman oldies subsidiary.

Here's the first of the 3 vinyl samplers taken from the Out Of
Town remixes CD and it comes in a lovely heavyweight card
picture sleeve 10'.
Limited to 300, this first one has Japan's favourite Max Essa's
vocal mix which takes us straight into the summer time feeling
with an uplifting mix of 'North Shore' that is perfect for putting a
smile on your face and getting those legs moving.
On the B side, Loft party co-host, Cosmo takes 'Dix Vertes'
to the dub end and turns out a truly stunning mix perfect for a
cocktail on the beach.

Chimp Beams "Lumber" is one of their earliest tracks, from their 1st album; never released on, & oft-requested on vinyl. Marter & Yony are Jazzy Sport's Marter, w/Yoshio Kobayashi (47.5, Akoya, Dub Nomads).

These records make their intentions clear from the outset, raw swung-out drum machine beats and squelchy Moog basslines combine
with sleazy pads and wiggly worm lead synths, all the necessary elements for a tasty funk formula! Immediate comparisons have
been drawn with early 80's synth-funk stars such as Parliament, George Clinton and Zapp, as well as 'new school' disco producers
from Dam-Funk to Space Dimension Controller.

Cover version of the Doors classic. The Tüe a new trans-atlantic
supergroup, conducted by producer Twit One from Cologne. Members are Miles
Bonny (vocals), Echomann (bass), Daan Henderson (keys), Lazy Jones (drums)
and Pascal Schr (flute).

Mysterious Danish producer Holtoug takes a couple of soulful favourites and maximizes their dance floor potential on 7-inches of wax!

Japan's hardest working funkateers, Osaka Monaurail return with a bang! Formed in 1992, the band has been keeping the funk alive in Japan with their JBs inspired sound and impressive live shows for almost 20 years now.

Screaming and pounding Black R'n'R at it's very best

My second favourite record, a thundering soul tinged R'n'B pleader with killer guitar and great vocal - it's a bad-assed burner

Beautifully constructed mid-paced blues burner with his best rocker on the flip

Jody Williams' signature tune, killer oddball guitar work out

Great early 'unknown' dancer with killer spoken word grinding flip

Raucous double sided belter from the master blues shouter.

Twin spinning New Orleans masterpiece

For the last 10 years or so the iconic blend of African folk, American jazz and funk, and percussive horn, drum and chant oriented music called Afro Beat has experienced a grand revival. Dozens of new bands worldwide consciously carrying the legacy of Fela Kuti into the new century. JariBu Afrobeat Arkestra is one of those new bands on the scene. Spiritually influenced by the great Fela Kuti, 'JariBu' which means 'Try' in Swahili, have created their own 'Neo Afrobeat' sound, interweaving traditional Afro Beat with funk and jazz sounds.

Historical Funky and Soul tunes in original, extended and re-masterized versions. Artists as African Music Machine, Ashantis, Abaco Dream, Willie Henderson...... and many more !!

GAMM proudly presents The Reflex, a new and rising star within the edit scene.
After his edits made big noise on Soundcloud they are now finally coming out on two separate GAMM releases.
Note, these are not just standard edits but fully reworked productions using multitracks, original samples and even live elements.
The first EP delivers a massive funk version of Jackson 5s "ABC". Trust us, this one got the best build up ever.
On the flip The Reflex twists James Browns " I Feel Good" into a sold club monster...we dare you to stand still to this one!

Blundetto cover of a classic funk track...tip!
Like Beaujolais nouveau, Blundetto strikes again with the following of his acclaimed first album 'Bad bad things'. And like 'Nautilus' for his first album, the first EP of the new album is a cover of a soul / funk classic: Aaron Neville's 'Hercules'. The song gets the blundetto treatment, smooth and soulful groove with the great & lazy voice of hugh Coltman.
