We all love a good ballad and it’s safe to say Al Green holds the bar very high. That being said, on their latest single rising Los Angeles kingpins, Night Owls, were game to take on the task by re-imagining The Reverend Al’s classic with their signature Jamaican twist while bringing something new and fresh to the table. After searching far and wide Night Owls discovered the perfect voice for the track in Destani Wolf who was brought to Dan’s attention by way of mutual friend Bobby Easton. “Her voice blew me away”; Dan recalls. Growing up listening to her parent’s Otis Redding, Los Panchos and Aretha Franklin records, Destani, a Latina from the Bay Area, already knew the song well and brought the emotional aspect that is so important. As this year comes to a close with “Let’s Stay Together” being the last song from Night Owls’ first string of recording sessions, Dan decided to give fans a proper Version/Dub on the B side, complete with drop outs, Space Echoes, verb splashes and drum and bass sections. Side-B features Night Owls keyboard maestro Roger Rivas on Melodica ala JA don Augustus Pablo, dubbed out and reworked for a whole new twist. This “Version" is a perfect complement for DJ’s to create extended edits and use in live sets to keep the crowd moving.

The mood and the beats are all in place on Pablo Moses’ second album A Song. The innovative album was recorded in Jamaica, using the finest session players of that moment. A Song is a strong multi-layered blend of roots and reggae music. Universal themes can be found all over the record, while he displays subjects as greed, racism, war and injustice. Many people consider it Moses’ masterpiece, and we can’t disagree on that statement.

Dash the Henge are excited to announce the vinyl release of Mercy an innovative record featuring the legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and the work of Peter Harris and Fritz Catlin. It will be preceded by vibrant visual representations of key tracks ‘Reggae Poison’, ’Row Fisherman/Whale Song’ and ‘This is Hell’ created by Peter Harris and Llyr Williams. “I always saw Lee as a performance artist rather than a musician in the traditional sense, so this conceptual backing feels like a more accurate setting for his stream of conscious performance art,” Peter Harris explained. “There is an attention to Lee’s history here too, something that elevates the musical collage with the echoes informed by albums like Super Ape where earlier tracks were recorded over again. In ‘Big Fish,’ the lyrics pay homage to Bob Marley’s ‘Small Axe’ and the tune references Perry’s version of ‘Sugar Sugar,’ which he recorded with the Silvertones. Although the structure might seem chaotic, the songs were crafted over a long period of time and the approach was the same as making a painting, where foundations are worked on then painted over and over until it is full wrested.” Nathan Saoudi (founder Dash The Henge/Fat White Family) boils it down. “It’s kind of quintessential outsider music - I can’t explain what they are doing, but they have a why, and that’s enough. That’s why I needed to get involved.”

*Peter Marshall (aka Kendrick Andy) features on an album originally released in 1995 and features Reggae and Roots vocal tracks, produced by Martin Campbell/Top Beat and co-arranged by Kendrick Andy. The album is also in the Showcase format and features respective Dubs of each vocal track. The basic rhythms were originally recorded at Channel One JA in the mid 1970's and all vocal tracks were voiced at Channel One (UK) in 1995.

Songs like "Mystic Man" and "Jah Seh No" highlight Tosh's commitment to his faith and his disdain for societal corruption. The album's production is marked by a refined sound that balances roots reggae with subtle experimentation.

"Wanted Dread & Alive" released in 1981 is now available on 1LP Yellow Recycled, is an album that underscores Peter Tosh's status as a reggae icon and a vocal critic of social injustices. The album's title reflects Tosh's rebellious spirit and his fight against systemic oppression. Tracks like "Coming in Hot" and "Rastafari Is" showcase his fiery lyricism and commitment to Rastafarian principles.

Peter Tosh's final studio album, "No Nuclear War," released in 1987 is now available on 1LP Yellow Recycled, is a profound anti-war statement that underscores his lifelong commitment to peace and justice. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, posthumously honoring Tosh's enduring influence. With tracks like "No Nuclear War" and "Nah Goa Jail," Tosh addresses the perils of nuclear conflict and the struggles of the oppressed. The album's passionate plea for a nuclear-free world and its call for global harmony encapsulate Tosh's legacy as a fearless advocate for peace and a visionary artist whose message remains relevant.

The original Star Wars Dub album was released in 1978 on Burning Sounds and shows Phil Pratt's amazing talent as a record producer, singer, and songwriter. This re-issue of that original album comes with an insert and sleeve notes + bonus CD

One trio that not only succeeded, but blossomed following the onset of reggae, is The Pioneers, who in 1969 became one of the first Jamaican acts to achieve international success with their UK hit, “Long Shot Kick The Bucket”. Their third album Battle Of The Giants is a little bit softer compared to their previous records, and even features a soul ballad. “Consider Me” and the title track “The Battle Of The Giants” are two of the best known songs from this album. The collection is a must-have for all self-respecting fans of boss reggae and is now finally available once again.

Battle Of The Giants is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange coloured vinyl.
