Hip-Hop Vinyl New Releases - News

In 1991 Baritone Tiplove released the highly acclaimed 'Young Ladies Drive Me Crazy' 12' on Easy Street Records introducing the world to the bizarre minds of this fictional duo. The 12' was well received and followed up by the cassette only LP 'Livin Foul' which has gone on to be a highly sought after rarity and has
even been called the greatest cassette only rap album. Now in 2017, In Effect Recordings and Diggers With Gratitude are proud to announce the release the first of three planned EPs comprising vintage Baritone Tiplove material recorded across the late 80's and early 90's.

Many people know Baritone as the alter ego of the multi-talented Phill Most Chill (aka Soulman) who has been enjoying somewhat of a resurgence in popularity of late amongst hip-hop vinyl fanatics. Recent collaborations with DJ Format ('The Foremost') and Paul Nice ('The Fabreeze Brothers') have been widely acclaimed, as have his numerous guest appearances, and our previous release of vintage material from Phill, 2011's 'All Cuts Recorded Raw', remains our best selling release to date and is now highly sought after. Suffice it to say we expect these to sell out quickly, don't say we didn't warn you!

Pairing inspired, thought-provoking lyrics set over crisp, funky beats, the sounds of Little Giants harken back to the golden era of hip-hop. This release commemorates the memory of Nick Pumpkin' Alvarado, who touched thousands of people with his signature music productions and acclaimed DJ sets at top music festivals and clubs across the US and abroad. He tragically passed away in early 2016, but his generous spirit and magical music will continue to live on.

To honor his memory, Nick's best friend and Little Giants production partner, Evan Everyman' Shafran, started The Little Giant Acorn Foundation for The Arts, a non-profit organization that helps children get started in music or the performing arts who
otherwise could not afford to do so. Nick absolutely loved to share his passion for music and performance art with the next
generation and nothing gave him more joy.

By purchasing the new LITTLE GIANTS LIMITED EDITION 7" VINYL you are helping to ensure that Nick's spirit continues to shine while ensuring that the next generations of little acorns' have the means to pursue their creative passions. "When I grow up, I wanna be like Omar" Stevie Wonder

"Still ...one of the best voices I've ever heard" Erykah Badu

Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone, Syreeta Wright, Common, Estelle, Incognito's Bluey Maunick, Erykah Badu, Carleen Anderson, Caron Wheeler, Leon Ware, India Arie, Lamont Dozier, Zed Bias, Pino Palladino, Roger Sanchez, Guru & Jazzmatazz, Maddslinky, Kele le Roc, Mario Biondi...all these people have one thing in common - all are admirers of, and past collaborators with the truly unique, gifted, original artist... British soul pioneer Omar (Omar Lyefook - MBE)

The musical history is renowned - the Lyefook family has musical talent embedded deep in it's DNA. Omars' father Byron worked as a studio musician and drummer with Bob Marley, Horace Andy and even The Rolling Stones. Samia Lye-Fook (Omar's sister) is a highly regarded vocalist in her own right, and a BRIT School alumni. Omars' younger brother, the Grammy winning producer, remixer and DJ professionally known as Scratch Professer has been making jaws drop since, as a 13 year old, stunning the crowd at the 1988 DMC UK Finals with his turntablist skills - and of course - lets not forgot their big brother....Omar.

Following on from 2013's album The Man, his first for London based independent label Freestyle Records, 2017 sees his new long player further cement his enviable reputation, as did receiving his MBE for services to music at Buckingham Place, and featuring in Javon Princes' comedy series on BBC2 television. Love In Beats is Omars' 8th studio album and may just be the most eclectic & varied to date.

Somewhat more electronic in it's conception and sound than it's predecessor, Love In Beats incorporates soul, Caribbean rhythms, an undercurrent of funk, with touches of zouk, a jazzy waltz, spoken word and also features collaborations with US soul legend Leon Ware, Blue Note pianist Robert Glasper, rapper Ty, Guadeloupe born singer Jean-Michele Rotin, and Uk soultress Natasha Watts, The Floacist and Mayra Andrade, the Cape Verdean born singer who lives and records in Paris.

Mainly recorded at his own Backayard Studio in South London his unique voice, multi -instrumental and production skills, together Omar and Scratch have brought forth a new collection that may just be the most beautifully formed and career defining album of all. Omar expands up on the inspiration, and the long running musical brotherhood which has forged this latest collection: 'This is album is labour of love between myself and my Grammy award winning brother The Scratch Professer. Powerful songs over mesmerising beats in the evolution - that is omarmusic and Brothers sound, it is truly 'Love in Beats'

First Word enters 2017 with a bang: a 28-track album courtesy of Eric Lau. This, his third instrumental album, is a veritable tapestry of vibes, ranging through Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz, Funk & Brazilian beats. A mere taste into the genius production skills of London's Mr. Lau, it's easy to understand why he's so revered by DJs, artists and producers across the world, including Rich Medina, 9th Wonder, Bobbito, Dam Funk, Gilles Peterson, James Poyser (The Roots), Phonte and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest), amongst others. Eric has had previous outings for First Word as part of the Record Store Day beat-challenge trilogy, along with Tall Black Guy, Kidkanevil and Mr. Thing, and was recently initiated into Jazzy Jeff's star-studded annual Playlist Retreat. As a producer, he's worked with a host of artists, including Kaidi Tatham, Oddisee, Yussef Kamaal, Guilty Simpson, Dego, Tawiah, Rahel and Fatima, to name a few, whilst his DJ skills have seen him tour the globe with luminaries such as Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper and Questlove. Additionally to three instrumental LPs, he previously released his debut-proper for Ubiquity, 'New Territories', and the acclaimed 2013 sophomore album, 'One Of Many'. 'Examples' really provides you with what it says on the tin - a mere taster of this man's talents, available digitally and on wax, black vinyl for the purists and limited edition yellow vinyl for the heads. Kicking off the new year with a bounce, it's unnecessary that we tell you that you shouldn't sleep on this.. Don't sleep on this.

The most powerful non-chemical ashbacks are induced by
memories of adolescence—the time of your frst kiss, frst spliff, and
those sounds that irrevocably alter the course of your life.
Calvin Valentine's Eugene' captures the intensity of those feelings. Released on EYRST, it is a love story to the artist's Oregon hometown, replete with swooning strings, angelic melodies, extraterrestrial talkboxes, and evocative nostalgia. It's rap, it's R&B, it's soul. It's one of those indefnable albums that allows you to understand why genre is obsolete. It's music—a timeless project from an artist who is acutely aware of how much time has elapsed. On Eugene, Valentine managed to do one of the most difficult things in music: write affecting love songs without coming off sappy, conveying the madness that sweeps you during the frst ush of teenage romance without losing a hip-hop edge. Valentine's Eugene is a stark declaration of a singular talent. It's the work of an artist fercely aware of what made him, who he is, what he loves, and where he's going. This is an album about growing older and falling in love with different things but never forgetting those memories, never forgetting the place you'll always call home.

DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, will return with 'The Mountain Will Fall' via Mass Appeal Records, his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On 'The Mountain Will Fall' he's shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. The album features Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm, Matthew Halsall, Ernie Fresh and more

Banoffee Pies Records have paved their way in dance music as an eclectic label with little restraints on their sound or style as a free flowing and flexible music platform. Now the imprint ventures into a new genre spectrum with BPBEATS01 - the LP presents 12 tracks of dusty hip hop, heavy cut samples and original vocals from well renowned Beat maker Flo Filz and a group of local producers, further in keeping with their ethos of letting the sound do the talking and representing friends and family along the way. For all of those interested in music this is a record that will turn heads and become another respected collectors item from their catalogue. Smokey jams for the lovers, hand selected by Banoffee Pies. x

The elixir is the essence of being able to control your future with elements of both the past and present. I live through my music only to progress towards a better day.'—Aaron Rose After shedding his former pseudonym of A La $ole, Pro Era member Aaron Rose dropped a number of noteworthy singles and killed every guest feature. But with the release of his new EP, 'Elixir,' the Brooklyn rapper has never sounded more focused or motivated, and it's only a taste of what's to come from the young artist. His tenacity becomes clear as soon as opener The Root of Sole' hits your ear with its mad-scientist samples and production from J57 (he produced five of the EP's seven tracks). And then in comes Rose to bring it all together, flexing his breathless flow and dizzying wordplay. From there, the BK native continues to rip apart the instrumentals, including the jazzier Break It Down,' featuring Domo Genesis and the more militant Parkside Ave.' More than just a rapper with incredible chops, Rose also reveals pieces of his personality and background on those same tracks. Like on Break It Down' when he rhymes, ''A black man who knows what his worth is, I'm off the circuits/ From this American horror story, we in the circus' Elsewhere, he eviscerates his critics on standouts The Art of Sole' and Swank Corleone,' the latter of which is produced by Latrell James. Rose also gets an opportunity to stunt alongside fellow Pro Era member Dirty Sanchez on The Shift,' a slapper produced by The Audible Doctor. Amidst the variety in sounds, the project remains distinctly the work of its host emcee. And he drives that point home when speaking on 'Elixir,' saying succinctly: I am Aaron Rose and this is my elixir.' 'Elixir' becomes available on December 16th through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms, and can be purchased on CD, via Coalmine Records.

Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake' is the 2012 album from veteran producer and sound designer Eliot Lipp, originally released on Pretty Lights Music. This seminal project in Lipp's catalog effortlessly moves between hip-hop, drum & bass, funk, techno and jazz. The 12' LP is reissued for a limited time by Detroit label Young Heavy Souls.

Repressed and back in!! According to legend, when the Wu-Tang Clan formed like Voltron on their debut album in 1993, GZA happened to be the head - an appropriate place for a man also called The Genius. Yet at the time few could have predicted that his 1995 masterpiece 'Liquid Swords' would be considered one of the most substantial lyrical journeys in hip-hop history.

ATR is a one of a kind reggae collective based in Parkside Brooklyn. Founded by Scrillamatic and KG, at their core they are just group of friends who hang out in the park and sing, all day. The routine is simple, they meet up at their favorite hangout spot on the side of a lake, play beats off of a beat up but loud stereo, and belt out lyrics out into the air. Sometimes a crowd gathers but it's usually just a few like minded artists sharing their love for music. Natives of the west indies, but coming of age in Brooklyn, they have a very unique perspective on life and the world we live in. With subject matters varying from traditional roots medleys, smoked out ganja anthems to gangsta badman chants to heartfelt soulful ballads telling tales of the ghetto and more, they have a lot to say.

Please note - you may have an earlier version of the Pharcyde 'Bizarre Ride' vinyl in your system. The Delicious Vinyl issue - DV142221 will never again be available. The new issue on Bicycle Music presented here will be available on an on-going basis. 'Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde' is the debut album from The Pharcyde. Released in late 1992, the album was hailed by critics and rap fans alike. Produced entirely by J-Swift with easily some of the tightest and most inventive beats of the era, 'Bizarre Ride' features only one guest appearance, provided by little known Los Angeles rapper Buckwheat (who would become known as 'Bucwheed' from The Wascals). Released during the dominant Gangsta Rap era of the West Coast, the music was described as 'refreshing' due to its playful, light-hearted humor and lush, jazzy production. Along with albums like 'To Whom it May Concern...' by Freestyle Fellowship, and 'I Wish My Brother George Was Here' by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, 'Bizarre Ride' helped establish a new alternative scene on the West Coast followed by artists such as Hieroglyphics, The Coup and Jurassic 5. The album featured four singles, all of which were accompanied by music videos. The group's debut single, 'Ya Mama', originally released in 1991, was the song that landed the group their record deal, but it failed to reach any Billboard singles chart. Their first major exposure came with the release of the album's second single, 'Passing Me By'. The song became the group's biggest crossover hit and is now considered a classic Hip Hop single. The album's third single, '4 Better or 4 Worse', was released in mid-1993 and featured the stoner song 'Pack the Pipe' and the throwback track 'Return of the B-Boy' as its B-Side. The final single, the SlimKid solo track 'Otha Fish', was released in late 1993. The album was certified gold in 1996, and it's stature has only grown since with the release constantly appearing on Best Of lists such as the 100 Best Rap albums by The Source, Top 100 Favorite Records of The 90s by Pitchfork and Rolling Stone's Top 25 Hip Hop Albums as listed by Chris Rock.

Stro Elliot is an incredible producer and performer. Plain and simple. His productions mold the past and the present into futuristic soul splashed gems that turn heads whenever they are heard. His ability to breathe new life into already classic records is one of the reasons he is one of the most respected producers of the day. From The Summer Love Song', where he beats the shit out of Kool and the Gang's perrenial classic Summer Madness', to the absolutely ridiculous flip of Soul II Stro', to Virginia Wolf', where he sings about relationship woes, it's all flawless. Street Corner Music is proud to present the debut LP from one of the best to do it. Boiler Room Performance: Stro Elliot's set was the one. A blend of classic hip hop and soul samples mixed with live new beats — taking you back, while wrenching you into 2016 at the same time.'

Compiled by Sofie Fatouretchi of Boiler Room, these 24 tracks by 26 different artists mix together the best of hip-hop and Soul underground. An enticing selection of artists that should be on your radar, the album varies from ISSUE's (Bay-area based artist and E40's son) space age rap on Ferrari' to slow jams like artists Ill Camille and SiR's heartfelt plea to never giving up on the Mndsgn-produced Almost There.' Other artists include Mndsgn, Kutmah, Stimulator Jones, DJ Harrison, Gifted & Blessed, and more.

Jammz came up studying grime, and in 2016 finds himself at the forefront of it. Born and bred in East London, Jammz started to make a name for himself on London's radio circuit in 2014 and 2015, appearing regularly on Rinse FM, Radar Radio, NTS, Mode FM and BBC 1xtra and teaming up with both established DJs like Slimzee, Spooky, Bok Bok and Spyro and newcomers like Moleskin. His Hit Then Run EP became a cult classic: the title track was played regularly on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Noisey's #3 grime track of 2015, and the remix was Sian Anderson's #1 remix of the week six weeks on the spin. Subsequent singles 'Final Warning' and 'London Living' further established Jammz as one of grime's best new hit-makers, while his live reputation is also quickly on the rise: he's played Glastonbury, Eskimo Dance, Outlook, Night Slugs and Bestival, has headlined FWD>> and in March 2016 was the support act on Kano's UK tour. Jammz has been supported heavily by Fader, Noisey, FACT, GQ, Mixmag, SBTV, MTV and more, and featured on the front cover of the Observer Music's British MCs special. Following an instrumental 12' which sold out in four days, Warrior is the second EP on Jammz's I Am Grime label. Intense and frustrated, it encapsulates life in London in 2016 and marks Jammz's most complete and considered release to date. All tracks are also produced by Jammz, apart from 'What's Man Saying', produced by grime legend Ironsoul and featuring a guest verse by P Money.
