Pat Van Dyke is an American multi- instrumentalist, composer, producer, and bandleader, currently residing in New York City. He produced several records with different notable artists, such as Sadat X (Brand Nubian), John Robinson (Scienz of Life), EL Da Sensei (Artifacts) and many more. Pat's music has been featured on broadcast television shows such as NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly", cable networks like MTV, VH1, Esquire and the Oxygen Network, as well as viral videos from the likes of VICE Magazine. He got UK-Radio spins from taste makers such as Gilles Peterson. "Right On Time" has the typical Pat Van Dyke sound with a funky touch to it. He mixes true-school hip hop & experimental electronic music with the rich harmony & refreshing subtlety of jazz. Drawing from a diverse range of sounds, his music features live instrumentation alongside analog synthesizers, vintage keyboards, and lush horn sections, straddling the boundaries of electronic music, jazz, and golden era hip-hop. A breath of fresh air in the days of overdone jazz sample based rap beats.

The second single from Cypress Hill's legendary debut presented here in a high gloss black UV coated outer jacket emblazoned with the Cypress Hill logo. Inside, the 7' is housed in a full color recreation of the art from the original 12' issue. In the early 1990s, a dark force began to rise in Los Angeles, fueled by classic '80s New York boom-bap and equally inspired by evil-tinged rock groups from the 1970s, like Black Sabbath. Just like that era of Los Angeles itself, pre-Riots and pre-The Chronic, Cypress Hill - producer and DJ Muggs with main MC B-Real and his lyrical partner Sen Dog - brought the city's bubbling unrest to the surface, bathed in weed smoke and exploring injustices done to the underclass by both the Police State and the Government. Technically a 'Double A-Side,' Cypress Hill's first single, from 1991, took a minute to penetrate the rap scene at large. Once it took hold, though, there was no turning back. Part of the delay may have been the aural dichotomy shown here - 'The Phunky Feel One' is a ridiculously funky groover, laced with liquid flows that might not create a full-on party vibe, but certainly brought listeners to the brink of the dancefloor. The flip, which eventually became the group's breakthrough (thanks in part to its use in the climax to the film 'Juice'), was a claustrophobic exploration of the gang lifestyle and mindset that was prevalent in the LA of the late '80s and early '90s

Until December last year music was simply a hobby for Alex Crossan, aka Mura Masa. He may have had 7 million plays and 30,000 followers on Soundcloud but the 18 year old Channel Islander had never played his music live, DJ'd or even been to a gig himself. He had just started an English degree at Sussex University and was happy playing guitar and bass in function bands.
It was an email from Jakarta Records that changed everything. The Cologne-based label (previously home to Kaytranada, Iamnobodi and Sango) felt Mura Masa's mixtape 'Soundtrack To A Death' was too good to sit on Soundcloud and persuaded him to release it with them.
The following 3 months were a whirlwind, with 30 spins on Radio 1, a sold out debut show & a top 5 position on the itunes electronic chart in the UK and US. At one point Mura Masa had 4 tracks in the HypeMachine top 50 and remix requests from Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, RL Grime and iLoveMakonnen in his inbox, whilst still juggling his degree.
So as Mura Masa prepares for his first official EP release the stakes are very different and he has upped his game accordingly. As well as the sampling for which he known, Mura Masa plays live piano, guitar, drums and even sings on Someday Somewhere. He is keen to show that he is a musician and songwriter as well as a beat-maker and has called on new friends Nao, Denai Moore and Jay Prince to feature on tracks.

Dexter ist der Reiseleiter. In seinem virtuellen VW Bus nimmt er uns mit nach Haight-Ashbury und hat den Fluxkompensator dabei auf Juni 1968 gestellt. Das sein persönlicher - Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test' trotz Paisleymuster und Patschuli 100% Hip-Hop ist, versteht sich von selbst. Nur klingt klingt dieser Hip-Hop eben anders als das was 99% der Beatmaker da draussen rausbouncen. Mindestens bewußsteinserweiternd und immer verdammt dope!

With the aim of breaking the mould and taking down boundaries, Andrea's "Black Magic" is the result of a combination of influences melted together in guitar amps to create a wavy piece of music. From the vocal-oriented track "Down" featuring Vanessa Elisha's lush vocals to the club-melting "Without You", Black Magic has a wide range of aesthetics and a particular attention to detail that creates its own unique world much like the artist behind it.

Young Parisian native Andrea has been building up heat over recent months with his innovative live shows (playing at shows alongside Flume, AlunaGeorge, Shlohmo, Bondax and Glitch Mob amongst others) and his own productions and remixes of The xx, AlunaGeorge, Sam Smith, Say Lou Lou, Rosie Lowe, Stwo, Slow Magic, Drake and The Weeknd to name but a few, drawing in fans and scoring radio support from tastemakers such as Benji B, B.Traits, Monki and Rob Da Bank at BBC Radio 1 and Eddy Temple Morris at XFM.

Twenty-two years after he was introduced to the world with 'Send Them' - the landmark left-field 12-inch that launched the Solesides label b/w DJ Shadow's 'Entropy' - Lyrics Born has made some of the most organic, original and adventurous
music of his entire career.

He turned the production over entirely (also a first) to his NOLA colleagues, giving them space to do what they do best, and him the freedom to write. Galactic guys Robert Mercurio and Ben Ellman wrangled a host of talent to execute the vision: Trombone Shorty, Ivan Neville, the Preservation Jazz Hall Band, Corey Glover (Living Colour), Corey Henry (Rebirth Brass Band), David Shaw (The Revivalists), and Billy Martin.

D3 Elements clocks up release number five here by offering up a full EP to Zhao-Ski, who previously appeared on the VA EP release in 2014. What he serves up are a clutch of instrumental hip hop tracks that speak to the soul.
Zhao-Ski has been a key figure on the Detroit scene for years. A DJ since his teens and owner of the Black Operation Records label since the 90s, he has produced as part of collectives, played live with MCs and has been mentored by the famous Mad Mike Banks. As such his credentials and skills are long established, so he makes a welcome return to the D3 ranks.
'Enter the Void' opens things up with louche, sun kissed beats that immediately brighten up your world. 'Mischief Meadow' has tumbling drums, trilling keys and lots of dusty atmospherics and 'Warning Signs' marries spoken world snippets with jazzy percussive, slowly funky drums and woozy pads that lull you into a wholly relaxed state. On the flip, 'Tight and Upright' is all about the huge over sized drums, snares and cymbal splashes that are all miked up super closely, then 'Time Reimagined' starts with some filmic and evocative vocals and sound design before a trumpet led groove unravels in stoned trip hop fashion. Overall, this is a magically compelling and authentic little ride through the mind of Detroit's hip hop king, Zhao-Ski.

* After storming the gates with his warmly received Tambacounda EP, Clap! Clap! returns to Black Acre to deliver his debut longplayer. Tayi Bebba is a conceptual work that manages to balance a highly cerebral concept with making some good old-fashioned bangers. Tayi Bebba is an album tour of an imagined island; each song representing a location, event or ritual. Sonically, it's a fast moving charge across the soundscape, fusing field recordings and found sound with incredibly surgical drum programming. Flavours of house, Footwork and Hip Hop punctuate your migration with a very specific sound palate, giving this amazing work a cohesive feel.

Danny Scrilla returns to Cosmic Bridge!
The label that introduced him to the world with his stunning 'Flash Powder' EP in 2012 now gives you his 'True Sight' EP. Including a collaboration with label boss Om Unit, drawing on the hardcore continuum and regression in modernist music True Sight's soul-infused electronics and vintage sound should prove future-proof for the elusive soundboy.
Arriving on the crest of footwork's rhythmic experiments exploiting slowfast halftime tempos Scrilla's sound is hard to pin down, Dub and Soundsystem culture influence heavily, a legacy of his early work with Reggae and Dancehall sound system Rise and Shine', but as True Sight highlights again Scrilla resists categorisation. Dark, Moody and Energetic and with a crucial balance of dread, romance, sci-fi imagineering, eyes down spirit and heart-rushing rhythms this record will appeal to fans of Instrumental Hiphop, Liquid DnB, '06 OG Dubstep's dark sparse sounds, Jungle, House and left-field Techno.
While Helium might be the strongest sonic connection to Scrilla's past releases, it cuts it's own path. A stark rumbling low end tickler it's house fired off dubwise, switching detuned sidechain pads with a gorgeous rolling organ bassline, soulful female vox and slapping drums for some heads down stepping introspection. The ear-kissing dreamy cybersoul of Rigel7 shows a different side to Scrilla, Smokey instrumental hip-hop, classic Mo'wax downbeat moodiness, bittersweet jazz and brilliant pensive piano work are counterpointed by complex dynamics and warm rich sub-bass suggesting once again that hip-hop and dubstep might be closer cousins than is usually admitted. Jello's spacious heavyweight ruffage is built fortowering stacks and pitch-black rooms. A Prince Far-I vocal sample underlines the strong dub influence. and an off-grid sidestick percussion pattern breaks up the halfstep beat making for some twisted swaying dungeon vibes. Wrapping things up Om Unit gets in on the action with the aerobic noirish drumfunk of Free Flight and you can immediately hear the label bosses influence! Liquid and impressionistic nocturnal breakbeat geometries are anchored by darker, meaner bass and ruff sub pressure. When these two put their heads together few can test! Previously based in both Berlin and London, Danny Scrilla is now residing in Munich. Known as somewhat of a Bristol institution from his early days selling hip hop from behind the counter of the seminal Purple Penguin record shop, his Dynamo Productions pseudonym with Andy Smith (Portishead) and his countless DJ residencies and appearances across the city. More recently he has branched out with the psyche rock/hip hop/pop stylings of the Domino Records-signed Malachai (Zane Lowe's "Hottest Record In The World") and the cinematic Dolman project alongside composer Ben Salisbury. It's safe to say Scott Hendy has worn a few caps in his time.

Returning to his Boca 45 alter-ego, for this - his third album under the name, finds him revisiting his b-boy roots and creating an album almost purely from found sounds, beats & samples. As an avid record collector and well traveled DJ, he has amassed a wealth of sources, be it old school block party rap, rare Latin percussion, progressive rock wigouts or obscure eastern European oddities, it all goes into the mix to create his unique style - steeped in heritage, but looking firmly forward.

Another link in the story is Boca's affinity with the Big Apple - from early digging trips and gigs there, he has forged a strong bond with the spiritual home of hip hop. So much so, that the only vocalists that appear on the album are NYC based. Having worked with Stephanie McKay on his debut album "Pitch Sounds" (Grand Central Records) she steps up once again to bless "Mr Big Sun", "Freedom Train" and "Parking Space" - her powerful soul voice perfecting each track and sounding like she's got a lot more left to prove.

Also featured are Brooklyn MCs The Good People aka Emskee and The Saint. From the block busting "We're Right Here" (as supported on BBC6 Music by Huey Morgan) to the party starting "People Are You Ready" their old school flow sits perfectly on Boca's beats and cements the Bristol to Bronx partnership further.

Other tracks such as "45 Live" and "Kool Herc's Echo Chamber" show his diverse cut & paste party rockin' ability, whist "BK Speakeasy" and "Lafayette Afterglow" offer a deeper filmic side to his production.

Moment of Truth- Turnier mit links. Obwohl er mit Battlerap nichts am Hut hat, in keine Deutschrapschublade passt und auch sonst vieles anders macht. Vielleicht auch gerade deswegen. Begonnen hat die Gold Roger Story vor gut 20 Jahren in Dortmund. Mit der ersten Stereoanlage schenkt ihm seine Mutter zwei CDs: Eko Freshs Debüt und "Geräusch" von den Ärzten. Das Rap Album verstaubt, Gold Roger wird Ärztefan, entdeckt Terrorgruppe, White Stripes und Skaten für sich. Mit den ersten
Räucherstäbchen wird die Lieblingsmusik langsamer und es werden sich erste 16er an den Kopf geschmissen. Doch erst als er 2010 Kendrick Lamar's "Overly Dedicated" und Ab-Soul's "Longterm 2" hört macht es Klick: - Zum ersten mal wusste ich, wie ich gern rappen würde', erinnert sich Gold Roger und spürte gleichzeitig zum ersten mal das Bedürfnis, dies mit der Welt zu teilen. Dieser Impuls geriert jedoch wieder in Vergessenheit und erst 2013 beim - Beat BBQ' in Köln, fasst er den Entschluss es
ernsthaft mit dem Rapding zu probieren und erste Tracks aufzunehmen. Nicht als Karriereoption sondern als Kunstform versteht sich. Zwei Jahre später erscheinen jetzt via Melting Pot Music seine ersten 15 offiziellen Songs. "Räuberleiter" heisst das Ding und stellt einen MC vor, der sein eigenes Ding dreht. Gold Roger verpackt Coming of Age Stories in 16er die eigentlich Kurzgeschichten sind. Wenn er von Gürhan, Özge und Opa Peter erzählt, dann ist das autobiographisch aber frei von den Authentizitätdogmen, mit denen sich Rap manchmal selbst limitiert. Gold Roger zeigt: du kannst den "Powerrangerblues" haben und trotzdem Ansagen gegen "Neidische Nazis" machen. Du kannst Malcolm X und Camus zitieren und trotzdem Swag haben. Die Musik dazu kommt von Suff Daddy, den Dramadigs, Yourz, Cap Kendricks, Afromaniac, Bluestaeb,
Enaka, Spexo, Robot Orchestra, Avantgarde und Abzug.

Mit THE ORB kehren echte Pioniere der elektronischen Musik zu Kompakt zurück - der Langspieler MOONBUILDING 2703 AD präsentiert erneut einen grossen Wurf in Richtung psychedelischen Synthie-Segens, obskurer Loops und porentiefer Ambient-Texturen, geschwenkt in schwungvollen Breakbeats und wirkmächtigen Basslines. Mit einem für genresprengende Projekte wie diesem hier eher unüblichen Vorwärtsdrang beerbt das neue Album von den Großmeistern Alex Paterson und Thomas Fehlmann ihren 2005er Erfolg auf Kompakt, das augenzwinkernd benannte "Okie Dokie It's The Orb On Kompakt" (KOMPAKT CD 45), sowie einige Beiträge zu unseren Speicher- und Pop-Ambient-Serien - viel wichtiger allerdings, daß wir das legendäre Duo auf der Höhe ihrer Schaffenskraft antreffen, eine neue wesentliche Phase einläutend in einer Laufbahn, die nur als bahnbrechend bezeichnet werden kann.

ASD sind zwei Ausnahmerapper, mit denen es in Sachen Talent und Durchhaltevermögen niemand aufnehmen kann. Zwei aus einer HipHop-Generation, in der Skills noch wichtiger waren als Images, die aber keineswegs hängengeblieben sind in einer Zeit, die lange vergangen ist. Zwei, die sich stets an der Spitze des Spiels bewegten, ohne sich anzupassen. Aber auch zwei, die trotz ihrer Erfolge gerne unbequem waren, die ihren Mund aufmachten, wenn sie etwas zu sagen hatten.

Nun also, 12 Jahre nach "Wer hätte das gedacht", erscheint endlich die Fortsetzung des bislang einmaligen Projekts ASD auf Four Music. Produziert wurde das 15 Tracks starke zweite ASD-Album von Bazzazian, DJ Desue, Samy Deluxe, Phono, Abaz, X-plosive, Dr. Zorn, Rik Marvel, Derek von Krogh, DJ Rocky und Die Titans. Auf mehreren Tracks wie dem Titelsong "Blockbasta", der Single "Legendär/Populär" oder "Mensch gegen Maschine" ergänzen harte Gitarren die brachialen Live-Drums, ganz als wären Rage Against The Machine in einer Neuzeitversion zurück auf der Bildfläche. Andere Stücke verbinden die donnernden Sub-Bässe des Trap, klassische HipHop-Samples und treibende Basslines zu einem schlüssigen 15er Update des ASD-Sounds.

NYC hip-hop in the '90s fixated on streets-centric authenticity. Being 'real' - musically, ethically, biographically - was paramount. From their first release, however, Brooklyn's Jigmastas proudly defined themselves by nobody's measure
of validity but their own. While others chased the so-called real, DJ Spinna and Kriminul claimed 'Beyond Real,' the title of their 1996 independent single on the label of the same name, a debut gem that established their M.O. as purveyors
of sonic sophistication and everyman truths.

Formed in 1991 in the County of Kings, this DJ/produceremcee combo in the tradition of Gang Starr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth showed enough promise to spark considerable, though ultimately unconsummated, major label interest. Such
apparent setbacks would prove fortuitous, though, as the Jay I Gees found themselves amongst the important participants in a burgeoning NYC underground hip-hop movement alongside pre-Rawkus indie crews like Co Flow, Natural E and Bobbito Garcia's Fondle 'Em camp. As subsequent releases more than aptly demonstrated (the metaphorical minded 'Chandon'; a 'World Is Yours'-esque paean to self-determination, 'Iz You Dee'; the purist manifesto 'Hip-Hop' etc.) being beyond real wasn't just a philosophical ethos but a musical one as well - Spinna's predilection for Moog synth riffs, vocal chorales, and
other inventively chopped and diced samplescapes complementing Krim's gravelly verses with an otherworldly air.

Jigmastas dropped a single LP - 2001's Infectious - during the duo's most active period. But the collection of non-album material that forms the core of this fine sequel (or prequel given the bonus inclusion of so many essential early singles)
that you now hold in your possession serves as a reminder of the potency and timelessness of their talents. From Spinna's classic breakbeat dissections on 'Lyrical Fluctuation 2000' through Kriminul's effortlessly fluid performance on 'Thief's Theme' some might call this that vintage NY boom-bap. A more accurate, and complimentary, descript is that it simply sounds like the Jigmastas. Long may they keep on rockin'.
